Freshwater Butterflyfish (Pantodon buchholzi) (image 4) have very large pectoral fins. If enough speed is built up underwater, a butterflyfish can jump and glide a small distance above the surface to escape predators. It wiggles its pectoral fins as it glides, with the help of specialized, enlarged pectoral muscles.

Arowanas (genus Osteoglossum) can jump up to 2 m (6.6 ft) out of the water to pick their prey off of branches, tree trunks or foliage, which has earned them the local name "water monkeys". They are the largest fish in the world to catch most of their food out of water.

Male arowanas brood their young within their mouth, only fully releasing them when they are about 7 cm (2.8 in) long.

The endangered Asian Arowana (Scleropages formosus) (image 1) is also known as the “dragonfish”, due to its large metallic scales and long barbels giving it a resemblance to the Chinese dragon. The popularity of this beautiful, auspicious fish has had both positive and negative effects on their status as endangered species, as they are in high demand in the home aquarium trade. Legal pet Asian Arowanas must be bred in captivity on a fish farm for at least two generations, have a certificate of authenticity and a birth certificate, and an implanted microchip to identify the individual. There are over 150 CITES-registered Asian Arowana farms in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asia countries, producing Asian Arowana for commercial purposes. But the actual number of Asian Arowana farms in the world could be much higher than that, probably over 350, the majority of them unregistered.

The Arapaima (Arapaima gigas) (see gif above) is the largest truly freshwater fish, commonly measuring 200 cm (6.6 ft) with records of up to 450 cm (15 ft). Adults may weigh up to 200 kg (440 lb).

Arapaima parents have been observed using their mouths to dig holes in the substrate to create a nest for their eggs. The males will remain by the nest to protect their offspring for three to six months.

Arapaima are becoming increasingly rare in their native habitat of the Amazon and Tocantins-Araguaia river basins, but are invasive in Bolivia and Indonesia after purposeful and accidental releases.

A 13-million-year-old fossil of an Arapaima (or very similar species) has been found in Colombia, in the Villavieja Formation, which dates from the Miocene epoch.

The African Arowana (Heterotis niloticus) (actually a relative of arapaimas rather than arowanas) is the only Osteoglossiform to feed extensively on plankton.

Native to freshwater habitats in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Thailand, and Vietnam, the Clown Featherback (Chitala ornata) (image 2) is considered one of the world’s most invasive species, as it often outgrows home aquariums and is then released into the “wild” outside its native range.

The Giant Featherback (Chitala lopis) was declared to be extinct in 2020, but a small surviving population was rediscovered on Java, Indonesia in 2023.

The African Knifefish (Gymnarchus niloticus) and freshwater elephantfishes (family Mormyridae) (image 3) are able to produce a steady but weak electric field, used for finding their prey, usually small invertebrates buried in muddy substrates.

The African Knifefish can swim equally well forwards or backwards, relying on its electric senses to “see” behind it.

Freshwater elephantfish are known to have a large brain size and unusually high intelligence.

The Medjed (likely a fish in the genus Mormyrus) was a kind of elephantfish sacred in the city Oxyrhynchus, in ancient Egyptian religion, as the fish that ate the penis of Osiris. Archaeologists have found fishes depicted as bronze figurines, mural paintings, or wooden coffins in the shape of fishes with downturned snouts, with horned sun-disc crowns like those of the goddess Hathor.

Bucky is always one to lay an assertive hand on your thigh in the car, large palm spread wide with the other gripped at the wheel as he steered. The act itself was dominant, assured - the light contact of his hand on you enough to make you feel small and protected.

You wouldn't be going anywhere in particular, just a casual night drive through the city, and his hand would always be in that same spot on your thigh - just his palm laid flat against it. 

Though every now and then, it would move place.

Sometimes, he would slip his hand into yours and bring it towards his face, pressing a soft kiss onto the back of your hand. He would often hold it there, close to his face - his elbow sitting on the rest, keeping you near him. 

He enjoyed the comfort and warmth your hand would bring, the slightest contact of you against him enough to ground him. Just your tender touch brushing against his face as he drove.

And on other times, he would hold your hand on the stick, large palm enveloping you as he shifted gears - his grasp firm but gentle as he used your hand as a grip. His eyes would momentarily glance towards you as he did it, liking the sweet, subtle smile that would line your lips with the dominant movement. He knew the effect the act had on you, so he would do it more than he often needed - doing anything to see that expression on your face.

When he would pull up into the gas station to pump up, before getting out of the car, he would always press a kiss onto your lips, asking what you wanted from the store - your answer would most likely be the same. 'A surprise.' He'd often smile at the request, knowing what you would reply with before you even say it. 

He would always give you exactly that. Bringing a bag of treats and snacks back to the car as he couldn't decide what to get you - what he should surprise you with for this time. More often than not, he'd bring up an offer as he pulled away from the kerb - suggesting to pick up a cold soda from the drive-thru on the way back home, knowing that they're your favourite. 

He knew you well.

And finally, Bucky would never speed with you in the car, often far too cautious of something awful happening. He'd keep a steady pace, preferring to cruise from location to location rather than speed, rather than put you in jeopardy. 

Just him driving with care, wanting to protect his most prized possession - his passenger princess.

⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅ Welcome to our first request of the year, since this is not a full on scenario I would like to introduce you guys for the first time to my version of headcannons!

Having an adult life is something nobody prepares you for: you have bill to pay, people to please, a job to do and sometimes it could get very complicated in a very short span of time.

Thankfully, you had these two by your side.

Zhang Hao, whose presence always brought you comfort even trough the most stressful days of your internship: always making sure you had a proper meal, timing you out if you went too heavy on yourself and making you company when deadlines became too much to handle alone. Hao was your biggest supporter but also someone who you could always rely on for advice.

And entering the newbie but familiar face of college: Ricky; as he wasn’t old enough to get an internship yet, he made sure he could stick around at any time you guys needed a break. Known as cold and serious, Ricky was nothing like the names thrown at him. If anything, he was like a pandora’s box.

Jokes? Got them. Plans to hang out? Planned them. Admiration for you two? Got it, too. Ricky just had a serious case of a very handsome face with such a contrasting personality, even in the gloomiest of days, he could bring a smile to your face by just asking how things went with your presentation, bombarding you with compliments about your ideas. Because in his eyes, you were just the role model he wanted to be.

And here they were, imagine two puppies waiting for food as you looked at them with a surprised smile on your face.

Dinner? Chinese Restaurant with tons of delicious food that the know you can’t say no to?

And so, as the evening progressed and you guys were ordering your favorite plates, the true meaning of the night was brought up by Hao, sitting right in front of you.

“We both thought that you’ve been working so hard and put so much effort into this project…” Hao smiled and let Ricky continue as planned prior.

“So tonight, you can enjoy yourself because you’ve worked hard and…”

“We’re so proud of you”

As both of them said those words you could no longer hold the fresh tears that started forming in your eyes, you really were lucky to have them by your side.

“No crying!” Hao said while stuffing a dumpling in your mouth and Ricky let out a chuckle, handing you over something to drink as you furrowed your brows in fake anger.

“We’re celebrating you tonight”

Also, remember to treat these two to their favorite restaurants because they also needed a break, but for now, enjoy the night away.

Caenagnathids are a family of distinct oviraptorosaurs with longer, lighter, toothless jaws and more slender, gracile anatomy than Ovoraptorids. Until the discovery of Anzu wyliei, remains of Caenagnathids were scarce and fragmentary, especially in North America. But then, in 2014, this giant North American Oviraptorosaur was described. Originally nicknamed the “chicken from hell”, Anzu was instead named after a fire-and-water-breathing bird monster from ancient Sumerian mythology. And, resembling a 3.5–3.75 meter (11.5–12.3 ft) long and 200–300 kilogram (440–660 lb) parrot with a high crescent-shaped crest on its head, Anzu certainly earned its name.

The oviraptorids were smaller and stockier than this tall giant, however, Anzu’s beak was not as heavily constructed as theirs. Like most ovoraptorosaurs, it was likely a herbivore or omnivore, using its beak to crack open hard shells and nuts. And, unlike its desert-dwelling cousins, it lived in lush forests and floodplains, likely with a different set of adaptations for this environment. Anzu’s large crest, the largest of all oviraptorosaurs, was actually quite thin and light, likely used for social signaling and to attrract mates.

Living in the North and South Dakota of the famous Late Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation, Anzu would have lived alongside many of the most familiar North American dinosaurs, including both species of Triceratops, Edmontosaurus annectens, and Tyrannosaurus rex. Aside from the Big Three, Anzu also lived alongside ankylosaurs like Denversaurus, pachycephalosaurs like Pachycephalosaurus, rarer ceratopsians like Torosaurus, and ornithopods like Thescelosaurus. Fellow theropods included Ornithomimus, Acheroraptor, Dakotaraptor, birds like Brodavis and Potamornis, and the slightly smaller caenagnathid Eoneophron. Azhdarchid fossils have been found here as well, possibly belonging to Quetzalcoatlus or a relative. Pseudosuchians lived here too, including Borealosuchus and Brachychampsa, as well as a large variety of turtles and mammals, at least one indeterminate mosasaur, and the choristodere Champsosaurus.

Police in the northwestern city German city of Osnabrück said they busted a drug trafficking gang, including one suspect who appeared to have links to the far-right "Reichsbürger" movement.

Police, supported by specialized units, conducted raids on 16 properties in Osnabrück, Hanover and smaller towns in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony states. 

Investigators said they recovered drugs, luxury watches, jewellery and around €30,000 (roughly $32,500) in cash.

Potential extremist link

They also seized 900 rounds of ammunition, including for a Kalashnikov, at the home of a man believed to be linked to the "Reichsbürger" movement.

The "Reichsbürger" (or "Citizens of the Reich" in English) movement does not recognize the formation of modern Germany after World War II.

Several senior members, including alleged ringleader and German noble Heinrich XIII Prinz Reuss, were accused late in 2022 of plotting a coup against the German government and are currently on trial.

Focus of raids on organized crime

Thursday's raids, however, focused on 12 people police say supplied Osnabrück and neighboring regions with drugs.

Investigators confiscated 160 plants, 440 seedlings and around 3 kg of harvested cannabis on a farm which they described as containing a professional indoor cannabis plantation.

Earlier this year, Germany partially legalized the recreational use of cannabis, but prosecutors said Thursday's action was proof authorities were still pursuing illegal cannabis growth.

"Organized crime can still be very successful financially with the organized illegal cultivation of cannabis. This can only be combated with determination, high penalties and effective confiscation of assets," Chief Public Prosecutor Dr. Alexander Retemeyer said.

Critics of Germany's legalization model question whether ordinary consumers will want to grow their own cannabis — the only legal avenue for them to acquire it — and also allege that the changes are liable to do little to nothing to combat the existing illegal plantations and other criminal trade of the drug.

‘Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram?’

What is a blog? I believe that most of the youngsters now do not know what it is. The word blog is a combined version of the words “web” and ‘log” (Weiner 2023). A blog is like an online diary or online journal, following a blog is like getting to know someone or watching their life just like watching a television series. There are many types of blogs, like food blogs, travel blogs, lifestyles blogs, health and fitness blogs, sports blogs, fashion and beauty blogs, and others.

Back to our topic, is blogging still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram? I would say yes, blogging is still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram. Granted that most people now are using TikTok and Instagram, but according to the research (van Dijck 2013) every single day, millions of individuals interact through social media. In December 2011, 1.2 billion users worldwide, 82 percent of the world’s Internet population over age 15 logged on to a social media site, up from 6 percent in 2007 (van Dijck 2013).

Nowadays, many people still use blogs, not only self-publishers, journalists, writers, marketers, and businesspeople also using blogs. Blogs are a powerful tool for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Businesses can post blogs with some keywords to help them grow the flow.

The length of the content we write is one of the most important SEO variables in 2020 for ranking highly. According to Rioja (2020), if we write a blog article that we want to rank, we need to make sure we are going into as much detail as possible. If we did not write at least 1500–2000 words per post, we would not rank. The ability to post long-form content is a benefit of blogging in this situation. The Instagram caption length restriction is 2200 characters, which is roughly 338 to 440 words. Instagram posts short-form information as compared to blogging, thus we are limited in how detailed we can make our captions. Because of the word limit of social media, users do not have enough space to introduce themselves in detail, whereas in blogs, users can present themselves more comprehensively. Therefore, blogs remain an indispensable platform.

The fact that blogging is still important in the era of TikToks and Instagram is also due to the wide range of content. Text, photos, videos, graphics interchange formats, and other types of media can all be included in blogs. We are limited to choosing between posting pictures or videos on Instagram and TikTok, though. Furthermore, we are only allowed to upload ten images in each Instagram post, and videos can only be one minute in duration. We may upload the video as a reel if it lasts longer than one minute, however, only one video can be posted for each reel post. Blogging also can be a digital diary. As we mentioned before, because of the word limit, we cannot express our emotions. In the age of TikToks and Instagram, many people use blogs to record their lives, just like a diary. Furthermore, there are many ways to earn money from our blogs. Some of the most popular ways to monetise include offering content by subscription, display advertisement, affiliate marketing, sponsorship, online courses, and eBooks (Shwake 2023). These monetised ways are quite easy compared to earning money on Instagram and TikToks. Instagrammers and TikTokers earn money in a few ways such as setting up an online shop, partnerships with other businesses, or live streaming. For me, we can earn money from blogs in a cosy and freedom style, as many people also earn money from their blogs, plogs, and vlogs. Instead of using Instagram or TikTok, most of them still choose to blog because it offers multiple monetisation avenues.

Lastly, despite TikTok and Instagram, blogging is still relevant today. Blogging is still vital even if many new social media platforms have grown up and may even be trying to mimic blogs. Additionally, a lot of people say that blogs are the ideal medium for expressing our emotions and making money. Also, I believe the blog is a great place for kids to improve themselves, as there is a lot of unhealthy content on TikTok and Instagram. I would not say there is not any toxic stuff on blogs, but as of right now, I have not seen any.

Animal Crossing amiibo cards for Sale

I've made a number of amiibo card trading and, later on, selling posts in the past. After I brought my number of needed amiibo cards down to nine and the most recent trading/selling post stopped gaining notice for some time, I bought the final handful individually on eBay. Now I still have a bunch of duplicate amiibo cards left over from the first four series, the Welcome amiibo series, and the New Horizons fifth series. So...so many from the New Horizons fifth series.

Since I have pretty much all the cards I want now, I have nothing left to trade for, so this is exclusively a selling post. (Unless maybe you have a spare Japanese promo "CP" card for Isabelle or K.K. you're willing to trade off, because I'll take 'em for collection purposes, but I am not desperate enough to spend over a hundred bucks to a couple of scalpers.)

Most of the duplicates I have are North American versions (they are labeled with two alternate name translations and their birthday formatted as MM/DD), and the occasional European versions of the cards that end up in my duplicate piles are labeled as such in the list below (they are labeled with four alternate name translations and their birthday formatted as DD/MM). I will sell anywhere between 1 to 6 cards at a time, and the price I am asking for is 1 dollar per card plus 64 cents to the total. If I’m mailing outside of the United States, that’s 1 dollar extra.

The Conservative government in the UK began British Rail’s privatization in January of 1993 with the enactment of the British Coal and British rail Act 1993 (Jupe & Crompton, 2006: p1036). This freed up the Secretary of State to give the relevant board directions concerning the disposal of its holdings. This Act was necessary because the government at all times had to act by the rules that were established by various Acts covering transport and railways, which would have stopped the board from disposing of the assets. Following the Secretary of state’s actions, he directed for the formation of Rail-track PLC, which, in turn, paved the way for 1993’s Railways Act. The British Railways Board’s operations were subsequently sold off. At the time, the process was riddled with controversy and some of the results have lent credence to the criticism that came its way. The manner of the privatization also led to widespread criticism from over twenty companies involved, especially for its complexity. This literature review will explore various key studies conducted on the privatization of British rail. The History of the Privatized Railway System Following the Swedish example that seemed apparently successful, the BEU issued directive 91/440, wishing to enable new rail operators to access the market (Jupe & Crompton, 2006: p1038). EU member states were required to separate infrastructure and railway management operations from transport services with account separation termed, as compulsory to all industries that were formally owned by the state with while separation with institutions being optional. The EU hoped that track operators would levy a transparent fee that would allow operators to run networked trains under open access (Jupe & Crompton, 2006; p1038). British Rail was privatized between 1994 and 1997 with Rail-track given ownership of infrastructure and track in April of 1994. Following this, there was franchising of passenger operations to operators in the private sector with outright sale of freight services. BRB Ltd. got the remaining British rail obligations. When John Major replaced Margaret Thatcher as the Conservative party leader in late 1990 the privatization of the British Rail begun to pick up steam. The government under Thatcher had sold off almost all industries that were formally owned by the state with the exception of British Rail. Even though, Cecil Parkinson, the previous Secretary for Transport had led advocacy for a form of semi-private or private ownership of the British rail network, Thatcher had deemed it too much (Jupe & Crompton, 2006; p1039). In the 1992 elections, the Conservative manifesto included a privatization commitment for the British rail network, although the specifics were not set out clearly. Triumphing over opinion polls, the Conservatives won the 1992 elections and had to, consequently, come up with a plan to privatize British Rail prior to the publishing of the Railways Bill the following year (Haywood, 2007: p200). British Rail’s management led a strong advocacy campaign for the privatization of British Rail under a single entity with John Redwood, a Cabinet Minister, arguing for the regional companies that were in charge of trains and track, although the Prime Minister did not back this at the time. Consequently, following pressure from a think tank fronted by the Adam Smith Institute, the treasury advocated for seven franchises for passenger railways, which later expanded to 25, as a means of revenue maximization. The treasury prevailed in this instance. In addition, privatization of British Rail became a reality. In 1997, the Labor government took over after almost all privatization had been carried out and failed to act, on its earlier promise, to return to the public sector the railway system (Haywood, 2007: p200).
