It's really funny that you ask this now, because I've actually been working on the prologue/first chapter of this AU recently and am hoping to finish the draft this weekend, and then post the chapter soon after 👀 your timing is impeccable haha

I'll give you a few crumbs because I don't want to spoil anything important even though I really want to waaaaahhhhhh

Past Burning Spice (or Herald of Change) calls Golden Cheese "little dove" as opposed to just "little bird". There's a reason for it, but I won't say what it is yet. You'll see why in the story

Past Burning Spice/Herald of Change is actually seen as quite the heartthrob. Incredibly handsome and thrice as strong. Intelligent and jovial. Selfless, heroic, larger than life. A god amongst men in more ways than one. But he hardly ever notices anyone's attention/affection, and when he does, he always turns them down; he's not interested in romance. Doesn't really see the point. Seems kind of fanciful, honestly. Hunting and fighting are more fun. Or... that's how he thought of it, before his little dove appeared. Now he suddenly sees what the fuss is about...

I cannot stress how absolutely, unequivocally jarring it is for Golden Cheese to see Burning Spice like this. She only knew him as a bloodthirsty monster. Now he's a warm, kind leader and guide, loved and worshiped by all. Whiplash doesn't begin to cover it. Never mind that he keeps... smiling at her. And going out of his way to talk to her and spend time with her. And... ugh, is he flirting with her? What is going on? The audacity! In both the past AND the future! Some things never change, it seems

Golden Cheese gets encouraged to give Past Spice/Herald a chance, more than once, by... someone or another. I won't say who

Past Spice/Herald seeks romantic advice from... someone or another, won't say who. It really goes to show how badly he wishes to win her over, though

He's quite touchy-feely, especially with her (she doesn't like it but he's persistent). Something you'll see him do in particular is cup her chin and run/brush his thumb over her lips. A simple gesture that's meant to be sweet and adoring (and becomes extremely important later on in the story, trust me. No I will not explain)

They do go on at least one (1) date. No, you do not get to know what happens. Buuuuut I'll say that it's not perfect. (But it goes better than one would expect)

She does... warm up to him. Slowly. Accidentally. No, she isn't happy about it... at least for a while. Who would've thought his charms would actually work on her...

Timekeeper is having a fucking blast watching all of this go on, this is her new favorite soap opera, she is SO glad she made this decision, she can worry about the massive consequences later

Yet another update of Aster, this time with (hopefully) her final draft of lore. Urbanshade stole her from a geneticist as an embryo and gave her to her "bio" mom, who wanted to cover up an affair she had through serving as a surrogate for the stolen embryo. One shitty childhood and a lot of circumstances later, she ends up a prisoner in the Blacksite, where Urbanshade subjects her to some pretty nasty stuff (even by canon standards) for a decade before she snaps out of it and proceeds to massacre the entire N.O.S.T Division stationed down there and allying with a certain mutated fish man and AI.

Bonus stuff:

Aster has a gender-ambiguous body, but identifies as a ✨woman✨. She could easily pass as a man, though.

Despite what Urbanshade's been sold by Mr. Shade, Aster is not immortal and cannot grant immortality. However, she cannot be killed prematurely, and will remain in peak condition until the end of her lifespan.

The scar on her back is from an axe

She can still feel pain, she's just developed a heightened resistance to it after years of constant torture. It freaks Seb out a lot.

Sometimes, Haze doubts. Thankfully, she has a lovely pack to make her forget she ever did.

Haze hovers at Mountain's door, fist raised to knock, and yet incapable of going through. She can smell her packmates in there, here the faint sound of their conversation, the joyful tinkle of their laughter. She inhales deeply. She's being ridiculous, all she has to do is rasp her knuckles against the door and wait for someone to open it.

Nothing bad will happen ; the door won't be shut in her face, the others won't suddenly stop talking and turn toward her with wide, guilty eyes. Haze is pack. She belongs. She knows this, she's been told this time and time again.

So why is she frozen in place ?

Haze is a confident ghoulette, she knows her worth, knows that she is deserving of a pack that loves and cherishes her, and yet, sometimes, this will happen. Doubt will bloom within her thoughts, sneak its treacherous roots in her brain matter, until she's too far in the darkest realm of her own mind to know what's true and what isn't.

The door swings on its hinges before she can make up her mind. Light, flooding the dark hallway she's still standing in. No longer muffled noise, pouring over her, curling in her eardrums to chase away the nagging voice at the back of her head. And Aurora's grinning face, angled up at Haze, love and delight at the sight of the taller ghoulette shinning unabashedly in her eyes.

"Haze ! I knew I smelled you ! Come on in !"

In a blink, Haze is dragged to the pile of pillows and blankets housing the pack tonight, pratically thrown on several ghouls including Cirrus by an overexcited Aurora. Haze barely manages to catch herself with her hands braced on each sides of the air ghoulette lying on her stomach.

"Woah," Haze chuckles, uneasiness fading away as her pack greets her in a cacophony of purrs, chirps and chortles, "careful there Rora, I'm sure Cirrus likes her spine whole and unarmed."

The air ghoulette in question looks up from where she was putting the final touch to her fake Tinder profile - a promising preview of tonight's entertainement - smirking lazily.

"Oh I don't know, I wouldn't mind you breaking my back hot stuff."

Haze grins with a shake of head and settles beside her, hooking her leg with Mountain's and laying her chin on Dew's sternum. The fire ghoul hums, taking on of his hand out of Aether's hair to twirl one of Haze curls around his pointer finger, watching her with an unguarded kind of contentment that makes her heart thump in her chest.

"Hi there. All good ?"

Haze nods, shifting so Cirrus can link their arms together, then points at Aether, laying on Dew's tummy with an adorably blissed out look on his face.

"Is he sleeping ?"

"'m jus' restin' my eyes," the quint mumbles in the voice of someone very much about to fall asleep. Dew pulls a face to make Haze laugh, and succeeds.

"Can I lay on your butt ?"

Haze glances at Aurora above her shoulder, raising an eyebrow.

"If you promise not to bite."

The hybrid ghoulette sighs overdramatically, flopping down with her head propped on Haze's ass.

"So cruel of you, to deny me such a fine piece of cake."

Haze snorts fondly.

"Go take a bite out of Rain's if you're so hungry, he's got the whole bakery."

"Nope, it's currently unavailable !" Phantom bellows, from where he and Rain are sitting in front of the TV, knocking shoulders and controllers as they fight a merciless battle for the first place on the Rainbow Road, may its name be cursed six times.

The quints tail is twitching with every risky turns he takes, and Rains ears are pinned to his skull ; they're really getting into it.

"Not for long, just gimme three minutes to give this nerd the lesson he deserves and i'm all yours Rory baby," the water ghoul snaps back, lazer focused on the screen in front of him.

Haze chuckles, tapping Swiss' elbow with her tail to get his attention. The multi ghoul momentarily pauses his conversation with Mountain, twisting his head to see her better.

"Do they know I hold the record of the fastest runthrough on this road ?"

Swiss laughs, the big, full-bellied one that makes Haze all gooey. His smile splits his face in half as he answers.

"Nah, and don't tell them angel, they'll never leave you be if you do."

Before Haze can say anything, she's smacked in the face by a bag of chips.

"Whoops, sorry ! Got your favorites, grilled chicken flavor, right ?" Sunshine yells above the ambient noise.

"Satan Sunny, inside voice," Mountain winces, though he offers the hybrid ghoulette a hand so she can lower herself on the ground safely, ending up tucked between him and Swiss. Haze blows her a kiss, holding the chips close to her chest.

"Thanks Sun'. You're officially my favorite."

Cirrus gasps in mock offense, poking Haze in the ribs to make her squeal.

"You told me I was your favorite ! Can you believe this Lus ?"

Cumulus rises from behind Cirrus with an indulgent smile, watching Haze open the bag and scarf a handful of chips down, suddenly aware of how hungry she had been.

"Wouldn't you turn traitor for your favorite snacks ?"

"See ?" Haze emphasizes, gesturing toward Cumulus and offering her the bag, "A sensible gal here."

The air ghoulette digs in the bag with a delighted purr, pretending to slap Cirrus' hand as she darts to steal some as well. A shriek informs them that Phantom predictably lost the race, now wrestling with Rain in a tangle of long limbs. Haze settles down once more, watching in amusement and munching on her chips as Dew's hand finds its way to the base of her skull, massaging the tense muscles there. She sighs in relief, heart swelling with so much love she could burst.

How could she have doubted for the slightest second that she was welcome here ? Here, in this room full of ghouls who so naturally carved a space for her, who took her under their wings, in their arms, and offered her the warmest of packs, a reprieve from how cruel and cold the world can be. Haze's earlier anxiety dissolves, and she finally, finally can breath.

"Whatcha smiling about ?" Phantom asks, having climbed over several bodies after his fight with Rain to curl on top of Mountain.

"Nothing," Haze hums, ruffling his hair, "just us."
