Apropos of that fantasy swords post, I love how half of Sanderson's books set up the story so that he's basically saying, "I am aware that crazy-shaped swords as tall and broad as a man make no sense, so I'm gonna painstakingly show you the reasons why they actually work physically, practically, and culturally in this society."

That man KNOWS he shouldn't have crazy, giant swords, but he is determined to have them. He just thinks they're cool.
