I just added some of my thoughts and preferences while keeping the description of the game itself as close as possible! I thank her for her help! I did have a lot of questions while designing that she helped answer and solve! I love how talented and enthusiastic she is!

Let's talk about screens and eye comfort.
@krakenartificer wrote this in response to my motivated lighting post.
Maximum-visibility lighting is also accessible lighting. I cannot turn the brightness on my screen up any more than it is -- even a few seconds of a light-mode app at 75% brightness will give me a migraine. I believe you when you say that the train-light photos are legible to you. But with my screen at ~50% brightness in a medium-dim room, that second one, with the bright-white light, is already painful to look at. And since my pupils have constricted to protect me, I can't see almost anything else going on there.
I already mentioned that if people are having issues seeing dark elements in their content, their room may be too bright. That is a strategy to get the highest quality viewing experience, but it may not be the most comfortable for people with various eye sensitivities.
So I'm going to address eye comfort over image quality in this post.
I think many people have a misconception about the brightness setting on their display. Often people will turn it up and down depending on the content they are viewing. If something has a really bright element, they may turn it down. If something is too dark, they may turn it up.
That isn't really how display brightness is meant to work. This setting is meant to maintain picture quality and contrast as much as possible while raising and lowering the overall intensity of the display. And the intensity is meant to be adjusted according to the viewer's environment, not what is on the screen from moment to moment.
You want the intensity of light in the room to match the brightness of your screen.
Some people prefer to adjust their screen a little brighter than ambient so it is a little more legible. But that is a personal preference.
So if you are in a dark room, you'd turn the brightness down.
If you are out in bright sun, you'd turn your brightness up.
If your screen is displaying near white or pure white and it hurts your eyes, that usually means your room is too dark. A brighter ambient environment can help make "light mode" more comfortable. Try turning on some lights or going to a brighter space and see if it helps.
However, some people do not feel comfortable in brighter rooms. This is when you might consider "bias lighting." This is a soft light source behind your screen that you can adjust to the maximum tolerable brightness to keep your eyes from going into night vision mode or max dilation.

It's better if the bias lighting is spread out rather than using a small light source like a night light. Small light sources feel much more intense and can add to eye strain. You want the light to cover a large surface area.
String lights across a wall work well.

Or you can bounce a light off a wall or ceiling to diffuse and spread it out. Many people just put a light behind their TV and light up the wall behind it.

The idea is to make the room *feel* dark while still having enough light to keep your pupils from opening up and feeling like any sudden bright light source is blasting you in the eyeballs. Your pupils prefer gradual adjustments to light and dark. If you go straight from a dark scene to a bright scene without any bias lighting, your eyes might feel a bit melty.
If you are *still* uncomfortable with white on your screen and have a particularly strong eye sensitivity, then you might consider sacrificing picture quality for comfort.
Turning down your brightness is not a great solution because it makes *everything* darker. Again, the brightness of your screen should be close to the room lighting.
Typically, to get the highest quality image you want to adjust your screen so the blacks are as black as possible and the whites are as white as possible without losing any detail.
Rtings has a guide for monitors and TVs for this.
They have two patterns for black and white point adjustment.

You want to see bars all the way up until the reference point.
The white point is most commonly called "contrast" in display settings. Sometimes there will be a contrast adjustment AND a white point adjustment. In that case, the white point only deals with the brightest highlights and the contrast will affect all whites.
But if you have really sensitive eyes... forget the charts. Forget peak image quality.
Instead, try lowering your contrast and reducing the intensity of *only* the white elements rather than darkening everything.
The picture might look a little gray and dull, but you won't lose as much legibility in the shadow areas. You are just turning down the brightest stuff to make your eyes more comfy.

And if you still need to turn down your screen brightness, you can raise the black point to keep more detail in the shadows.
Again, that might not look great, but it will keep your eyes comfortable and you will be able to make out all the details you need to see.
You might also consider adjusting the color temperature of your screen to be warmer. Blue light is higher frequency and more energetic. Which means it can pierce and glare more than warmer light. So shifting things to the orange could also bring some comfort to sensitive eyes. Search for a ā€œWarmā€ mode, ā€œEye Comfortā€ mode, or Night Shift settings.
Most TVs and monitors have these adjustments. Sometimes they call them different things, so you may have to do some googling. (God forbid tech companies ever agree on a standard.)
And if you are on a phone or laptop, you may need a special app to adjust these specific things. I would research "how to reduce white point" for whatever device you are using.
To review...
Adjust your ambient room lighting first. Brighter ambient room lighting can make bright white elements on your display more comfortable.
Display "brightness" should be adjusted to your lighting environment, not the content on screen.
If you don't like bright rooms, bias lighting behind your display can keep your eyes from going into night vision mode. This can prevent bright screen elements from being too intense or glaring.
If you have eye sensitivity issues, try all of the above first, and then consider lowering your contrast or white point setting. This will dim only the brightest elements on screen without making everything else too dark.
If you need to lower the screen brightness AND white point/contrast, you may lose detail in the shadows as well. You can try raising the black point to compensate. This is a worst case scenario and will probably not look great.
Consider warmer color temperature settings to reduce glare from high-frequency blue light.

Back in 2022 I hosted an art raffle for reaching 777 followers on Twitter! The winner would get their submas themed idea realised (which was their friends throwing a surprise party for the twins!). I wanted to make a little comic and have the bosses walk in their office where depot agents, Elesa, Drayden, Skyla, Clay etc. would be waiting with decorations and treats and games.
Emmet is all smiles of course while Ingo gets so emotional he could only whisper a "super bravo".

Not really headcanons anymore but still funny ideas.
1. Emmet gets clumsy when off-rhythm! He starts walking in curves if there is nobody else around to match his rhythm with.
2. Emmet spaces out/forgets to say things aloud when someone speaks too long or when things go off-script! His thinking gets interrupted easily.
3. Ingo sometimes bumps into doors because he is too used to automatic doors!
4. When things go off-script Ingo speaks too much and rushes in straight lines"
Also my little inexpensive sketchbook & my trusty tools! Mechanical pencil and eraser pen are life when scribbling my skrimblos smaller than a postage stamp!

The second piece is my very first attempt at cosplay in Tracon 2022: Blingo! I walked in with a sequin hat, leather jacket, leather pants and high heel patent leather boots.
The hardest part of cosplaying Ingo is remembering NOT to smile ahaha!

Emmet has really great voice actors in Pokemas! I especially love how his english VA gives him that bri'ish/posh/sophisticated vibe while also soft and melodic! I know for SURE this VA/Emmet can sing, I can show you later!

Collecting my thoughts on what I know of Xavier’s journey, its impact on the main story, and my guess for what’s going to happen in his chapter in the next update—
For reference:
-Philos is a man-made planet that was ā€˜born’ the moment earth died. It’s earth, reanimated and kept alive by a powerful artificial source.

-MC is that source, the main story update confirmed she literally has the power of a planet inside her.
-Ever made Philos, or rather in this timeline, is planning on creating Philos.
-Some of the anecdotes and world underneath chapters allude to the fact Ever is watching her, watching her cultivate— she gets more powerful every time she resonates
-they are aware of her connection with Xavier and are choosing not to interfere, because every time they resonate his light evol makes her stronger.
-I’m SICK. He is basically unknowingly charging her up like a battery and they’re just salivating in anticipation, waiting for the right moment to seize her AND him.

-The Backtracker that betrayed Xavier ( Isaiah), is working for Ever. He assassinates Josephine (the explosion) to silence her and steal her observation records on MC. he managed to retrieve something to give to the Ever Raincoat/Agent.
-However Josephine left some files with Zayne before her death. She knew what was coming hid away the most valuable of the information they were after.
-The traitorous backtracker is receiving a drug to keep him from turning into a Wanderer in exchange for completing the tasks they give him. But there’s a substance in it that can make them control him if it works.
-They plan on modifying it to use on Xavier.
-The way the raincoat speaks on Philos is a bit?? As if he’s already familiar. He playfully comments on how a monarchy seems regressive for a futuristic civilization, then jokes as if Ever can interfere with their politics. ā€œKill Xavier and let Ever crown you as a princeā€

-Then the ā€œBy seniority, I’m your ancestor.ā€
-it could be a coincidence, I don’t believe this raincoat has blood ties to the backtracker, but I do believe he’s referring to the fact that since he’ll be playing a hand in the creation of Philos, it basically makes him a ā€œFounding Fatherā€
-He might be delusional here, since he’s not yet in on the ā€œReal Planā€ and won’t be until he proves his worth by getting and controlling Xavier. Right now he’s basically flaunting authority he doesn’t even have lol.
-Xavier already knows that Philos needs human sacrifices to sustain itself.
-He knows that wanderers are a side effect of the sacrifices.
-He knows that MC is the perfect sacrifice because of her power but also because she can be reborn after she dies.
-Not wanting to choose between saving the planet or saving the girl he loves
-he scours the universe for a solution, something, anything that can power Philos and save MC from the fate of forever being the planet’s fuel.
-in my opinion, he eventually resolves to just straight up prevent Philos’s inception. Maybe being stuck in the past made it easier to get to this decision.
-This is where things get tricky, because earth finds out about Philos after the deepspace tunnel opens

-How?? Literally how the planet is literally future earth??
-Then there’s this line from one of world underneath chapters (chapter 4 I believe)

-The deep space tunnel created a convergence in which earth got to see its own ā€˜future’

-Xavier travels through the deepspace tunnel 200 years before it opens up above Linkon City. Could he be inadvertently responsible?
-We know now Sylus arrives through the tunnel and breaks MC out of the Gaia research center amidst the chaos of the Chronorift catastrophe
-He does just enough to free her and leaves again, Xavier rescues her and she ends up at a shelter
-Josephine finds her and decides to be her guardian.
-I’m not caught up on Caleb’s lore but I know his presence fits in here, he was definitely at the shelter with MC and was also taken in by Josephine. He was also caught up in her assassination, which nearly kills him too but he is saved, presumably by Ever.

-I read this character analysis on reddit regarding his dynamic with some other minor characters, but this part sticks out to me

-(IF SOMEONE COULD LET ME KNOW WHERE EXACTLY HE SAID THESE LINES IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED)
-but!! A world built on ruins is an illusion. This feels like a reference to Philos and how it’s doomed to fail.
-I think Caleb is aware of the plans for MC
-Back at the shelter, I remember you said that your home was beyond the stars.
-We now know that MC was not born on earth, that her earliest memory is being a child gladiator in some intergalactic arena with Sylus.
-I don’t think MC told him all about her past, but I do believe that Caleb has a vague idea that she’s not really from here or meant to be here, and knowing the fate of where Earth is headed he’s more than willing to take her wherever she’s meant to be, or better yet wherever she wants to be. Caleb doesn’t care about whatever happens to earth because it has always been his intention to just leave with MC if worst comes to worst.
-If Ever is aware of MC’s connection with Xavier, then they’re likely aware of the other LIs, and like with Xavier, every resonance with them makes MC stronger. They are watching her ripen like fruit before they pluck it.
-All the love interests KNOW there are eyes on her and have their own way of protecting her.
-Xavier will keep her by his side, they’d have to get through him to get to her. Sylus wants her to grow stronger and more powerful so that she’d be untouchable. They couldn’t take her if they tried. Caleb is planning an escape route for when shit hits the fan, Rafayel is dropping bodies behind the scenes and Zayne is like single-handedly keeping a VERY spiteful God at bay.
-But the chip in Caleb’s brain, the drug they’re brewing for Xavier, and the anti-matter weapons being made to combat Sylus? Zayne is distancing himself from MC on his own accord and I’m not sure what they have in store for Rafayel. But Ever is literally crafting tools to neutralize the LIs so they can easily get to MC.
-Back to Xavier, though. I ultimately think that his chapter will be his realization that in spite of his efforts, it still wasn’t enough to change the future he was trying to prevent. And that keeping MC by his side won’t be enough to protect her. Is he just going to be stuck in this loop of having to witness MC’s death over and over?
Okay final notes šŸ—’ļø:
-I know about the evol suppression device around Xavier’s neck but according to his anecdotes he had it on long before this present timeline. He exchanged his freedom for a Protocore that could save MC (though it was too late) and it’s implied that though Ever couldn’t get it off of him, they were able to tamper with it and increase it’s threshold so he can use more of his evol. (Side note: since he’s had the evol suppression device from the very beginning, doesn’t it mean his attempt to elope to Uluru would have likely failed since they probably could track him through the device?)
-I’m not caught up on all the world underneath chapters and the rest of the LIs lore, so if you read this far and there’s anything I’ve left out or that contradicts my theories please let me know I’m trying to make sense of this so bad šŸ™šŸ˜­

I’ve been like honestly thinking, what would certain bots call their little human partners? Like I could imagine TFA megs being ā€œmy darlingā€ but like at the same time I don’t. Just a random ramble I hope you could help me out here bc it’s been on my mind for a while🄲
I've been discussing this question with @drunkeninlovesailor this morning and we've brainstormed a bunch - so keep in mind we've also come up with a bit of extra worldbuilding (since we don't always vibe with official sources) Honestly, it depends on how well a bot is acquainted with/willing to use human terms. TFA Megatron for example would only use "my darling" if he knows it terribly flusters the human. He obviously looks down on humanity (and this includes everyone but his human - whom he still looks down upon to a degree but shhhhh). If his planet's terms don't have the same impact, then "darling" it is. But if he were to use a Cybertronian term, he would go for "my spark" (meaning "person I cannot live without"). TFP Megatron always goes for something that's a thin line between affectionate and demeaning. Things like "little one" where you're really questioning if he views you as someone he loves or a glorified pet. To be fair he's weird with everyone - any affection he has is mixed with murderous intent. TFP Optimus would call you something that shows his respect and appreciation for you. Not big on nicknames, but I'm sure you can get him to adopt something - be it Cybertronian or human lingo TFP Bulkhead and Breakdown are well-acquainted with human media (thanks to Miko and Knock Out) - but the nicknames they choose are either obscure references or sickeningly sweet to a point it gets ridiculous. Are they aware of this? Mostly Bulkhead - Breakdown would call you cotton candy with a straight face because it's sweet so it must be affectionate, right? TFP Ratchet would refer to you as his associate and later friend until he finally figures out his feelings and admits to himself he's been pining for so long it's starting to take a toll on him. Then he'll start calling his human "my spark" in private, because he's old as balls. But also "sweetspark" if he's feeling playful. Although he's willing to adopt some human terms as well and lovingly mock you by using the most grotesquely cute nicknames when you're alone. TFP Starscream? Absolute disaster. He tries so hard but he's too self-aware about how weird it sounds to call you anything affectionate. Usually everything he uses sounds demeaning even if he starts them with "my" - ie: my fleshbag. Unless you're in private and he's feeling particularly generous, at which point he's going to see if he can use some of the human lingo he learned while scouring the internet. He's testing them out to see which ones work - this can either make or break your boner. He's trying to seduce you not call you his "honey bear" TFP Smokescreen is a virgin who's never been with anyone before (you can pry this headcanon from my cold dead hands) so he's navigating the land of pet names with even less experience. Don't let him use the internet though because he'll probably end up calling you his bitch and see nothing wrong with that. Cybertronian terms tend to be easier. He says sweetspark and acts smooth to impress you, but all it takes is a sultry voice and his entire system needs to reboot. TFP Knock Out has a good grip of human lingo and is the best at mixing human and Cybertronian nicknames. He can easily switch between sweetspark and love - my spark and darling. Heck if he wants to be a smug bitch he'll call you kid/kiddo by saying Newspark.

Peter had followed the sounds of her panicked spitting to find you with thin scratches welling blood on your thighs and already beginning to slump in your chair from the sight of them.
Yzma was put in time-out. You do plan to make a case for her, as soon as you can see straight.

My siblings in Primus, holy fucking shit. I made an Optimus Height Chart. This took me.. SO LONG TO DO. Were y'all aware of how many Optimus designs there are?? Because I don't have all of them on this chart, and I still have TWENTY NINE (29, a 2 and a 9) out of the THIRTY SIX (36, a 3 and a 6) that exist. I didn't include the SEVEN (7) because either they were just a temporary upgraded form, or I already had multiple designs from that universe that were the same height and having all of them is redundant and repetitive.
40 fucking years and nearly as many distinct designs, I deserve a medal, honestly. Optimus has been in every single piece of media the Transformers franchise has ever made. Working on this in tandem with the Megatron one was a wild choice of mine, but I did it.
I included Optimus Primal on this chart. Both are named Optimus, I should not have to explain myself. Big Monkey and Big Truck are the same. No, your honour, I do not plead insanity; why do you ask?

G1 Beast Wars V2 - ~10 Feet (Primal. TFWiki with the clutch, I will not always be this lucky.)
Earth Spark - ~15 Feet (Prime. No official numbers have been given, but I have already figured out how tall Bee is, and I was able to compare the two and get a good estimate. This is the shortest non-animal universe to date holy shit. Look at this, I'm showing my work

RID 2001 - ~16 Feet (Prime. TFWiki once more, we love one source for everything)
Unicron Trilogy V2&3/ENG&CYB - ~16 Feet (Prime. For the uneducated, the Unicron Trilogy has given each of its 3 seasons separate names and 3 separate art styles. These are the designs used in Energon (S2) and Cybertron (S3). The Wiki had Cybertron's numbers but not Energon's, so for my own sanity, I decided the two were the same height. I could have done something in between Cybertron's and Armada's (S1) numbers, but there was a lot of float between the two)
G1 Beast Wars V3 - ~16 Feet (Primal/Optimal Optimus, this is the result of a fusion between Primal and Prime. The TFWiki says this design is like 40 feet tall, but if that is true, Rattrap, a character stated to be 1.8m or ~6f tall across several sources across several different languages, is actually not that tall. So I call bullshit, this guy is 2.6 Rattraps tall, making him around 16f or 4.9m tall. Checkmate, I win)
Prime Wars V1 - ~17 Feet (Primal. Slight spoilers for further into this chart but I decided that the Prime Wars Trilogy and the Netflix Cybertron Trilogy Optimuses were the same height as the Gen 1 design, because they're nearly identical. So comparing Primal to Prime, Primal comes up to about Prime's tits, bada bing bada boom)
Netflix Cybertron Trilogy - ~17 Feet (Primal. Identical explanation to above, don't want to repeat myself)
One V1 - ~17 Feet 10 inches (Prime. Okay, the Wiki says 32.534 feet, and I call Bullshit. A: These numbers are sourced from the Walmart Promotional AR Experience that came out before the movie. B: There are three decimal points, and that number does not convert into a whole number in meters (which is originally what I thought was weird about it). C: The director has said that this movie is both canon to the LA movies and its own separate canon. I already stated all of this in my Bumblebee chart post, and I will be dying on this hill. This is as short as we see OP in the movie, him at his tallest should match his KCV height, he's never taller than Megsy, so knock a couple feet off the biggest number and voila, my brain hurts)
One V2 - ~18 Feet 10 Inches (Prime. Same explanation as above, but taller than he was without his cog, because he got bigger)

I am a long-time fan of you and I know you care a lot about social issues. When I saw your analysis on the HH designs, I feel you missed two major aspects of Alastor's design that are suspect. One, the 'deer' aspect of Alastor is a reference to a Native American Cannibal spirit which name is taboo and so I won't type it here. Though the creature itself isn't associated with deer, the common depiction of them is a cannibalistic deer-monster. Second, the 'magic symbols' Alastor uses are straight up Voodoo/Vodoun symbols. Not used in the right context or with an actual voudoun priest/priestess serving as a sensitivity reader. I bring these up, because I feel your analysis lacked a lot of context. If you answer this, thank you in advance.
Ah, you might be able to help me on this, I've heard before that the creature in question is taboo to mention or depict, but I've looked around multiple times for a source on the taboo. Which indigenous cultures is it that have the taboo on the creature? It's part of multiple nations' folklore, do they all collectively have the same taboo on the creature, or do they have differing stances on it?
I have seen this claim of taboo repeated across the internet, it's on various poorly-sourced mythology blogs and it gets repeated by TikTokers and in social media discussions, but I haven't been able to find any official sources from Algonquian-speaking indigenous nations, whose cultures originate the stories, asking that outsiders not discuss or represent the creature.
I've been able to find anecdotes shared by people that their elders have told them not to say the creature's name at certain times or in certain circumstances, because it supposedly draws the creature (or the evil it represents) closer, but I've not been able to find any strong indications that that taboo extends to non-members of the culture, or people speaking outside of the nation's lands, or on the Internet.
I saw a few people who identified as Ojibwe make fun of the idea that the word needs to be censored in text especially, with one of them calling it "colonizer nonsense." According to them, the rule they grew up with is not to speak the creature's name out loud in certain circumstances, and they claimed that it was considered significantly more taboo (at least in their communities) to whistle at night, since that would call the creature. Again, this is all anecdotal, but better sources seem scarce on the ground.
Do you have a link or a source, or some knowledge of which nations or organizations are calling for the taboo to be respected by non-indigenous people? The main reason I did not bring up this subject is because I simply cannot find any good sources on which to base a criticism. I don't want to spread the idea that First Nations people are calling for a taboo on depictions or mentions of a creature from their culture unless I can positively confirm that they are actually doing that.
Similarly, if you have a solid source from an authoritative Vodoun practitioner criticizing Alastor's design, I'd love to read it, it might come in handy someday. Not asking you to do my research for me, obviously, just that if you have one to hand or off the top of your head, you'd be doing me a favor.
As I say in the video itself, it was meant to be a fairly short project, and I did not have a lot of research time available. If I'm going to broach a critique on Alastor's design as it relates to Vodoun practises and culture, I need to study some primary sources from those cultures outlining what they consider to be best practises and faux-pas when it comes to depiction and use in pop culture. It's maybe a subject for a future video some day, but not until I've done the reading, and I would probably make it a much broader discussion than just Alastor and Hazbin Hotel.

Conjunctive Adverbs
A conjunction is any word that connects words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. They express the relationship between ideas or parts of speech.
A conjunctive adverb is an adverb that acts like a conjunction.
Conjunctive adverbs are often set off from the rest of the sentence by a comma.
For example: We don’t have time to run to the store. Besides, you already have cereal at home.
Conjunctive adverbs can also go at the end of a sentence, in which case they don’t need to be set off with a comma, as in: I didn’t really want a pony anyway.
Adverbs of Frequency
Detail at what rate over time an action or event occurs.
They answer the question ā€œHow often?ā€
Generally go just before the verb they are modifying:
She always orders chocolate cake.
My brother will never get over it.
Adverbs of Time
Describe when things occur.
They answer the question ā€œWhen?ā€
Are very flexible: they can go at the beginning of a sentence set off with a comma, right before thea verb or clause they are modifying, or at the end of a sentence. It depends on the adverb and how it is being used in the sentence. For example:

The original image is stupid. That's a given. I guess they are trying to ask why the Moon doesn't have a bright spot and dark edges.

The short answer is... the Moon is bumpy and the Sun is far away.
The long answer requires me to do some math. So I apologize in advance if I get some numbers wrong. But I promise you will learn some neat things about light if you are into that.

Retroreflection is when light is reflected back at the angle of incidence. Meaning no matter what angle you shine light from, it will always reflect straight back to you.

It's a bit of an optical magic trick. It is how street signs and highway markers work.

Weirdly enough, astronauts placed a manmade retroreflector on the Moon which people can use to reflect lasers and disprove the fake Moon landing theory.
The Moon may have retroreflective properties, but that effect would only really be noticeable if you were to shine a tight beam of light like a laser or something. Retroreflection would be more apparent from the perspective of the Sun, not the Earth.
You know what, I should just read the source and see what they are talking about.
"The edges of the full moon seem as bright as the center, without limb darkening, because of the reflective properties of lunar soil, which retroreflects light more towards the Sun than in other directions."
Hey, I was right about the Sun.
But this is a bad explanation. A rare L for Wikipedia. I even checked the primary reference and it doesn't even talk about retroreflectance. It does seem to be a factor, especially for the very outer edges, but looking at other sources my initial answer of the Moon being bumpy and the Sun being far away is much better.
So... let's learn some shit about light.
First we should talk about surface texture as mentioned. You have glossy surfaces and matte surfaces and a spectrum in between.

A glossy surface reflects light very directly (specular). A matte surface scatters light in many directions (diffused). This has to do with how smooth or bumpy the surface is.

The Moon is very rocky and bumpy and dusty, so it has a very matte surface. And I'm guessing since some rays bounce back toward the Sun, we don't get as many direct reflections that would add specularity. Perhaps there is a Moon expert who can weigh in on how much that actually diffuses the light beyond the matte surface texture.
And the reason the Moon is so evenly lit has to do with the distance of the light source. Again, the Sun is super duper far away.
When light is very close to something, it falls off very quickly.

When light is far away, the falloff is very gradual.

From the camera's perspective, the edges of the sphere are farther away than the center. When the light is closer, the edges of the sphere appear darker. But when the light is farther away, the edges of the sphere appear to have a similar intensity compared to the center.
The surface of the Moon is not a consistent distance from us. It is a spheroid so the edges are nearly a thousand miles farther away than the center. But the edges don't fall off into shadow from our perspective.
This is a property of the inverse square law.
Let's say you wanted to light two people and the light was very close—one person might end up in the light's falloff.

But if you move the light farther away and crank up the power, the two people will seem evenly lit.

You can think of light a bit like a shotgun in a video game. When you are close to something the shotgun has a very tight spread and is more lethal. When farther away, it has a larger spread but the lethality is decreased.

The first shotgun blast is very intense directly in the center but has no effect on the edges. The second blast has more even coverage, but the intensity is spread out and diminished.
From a point light source, light starts out very concentrated but the photons spread out over a distance. This dilutes the intensity of the light. The inverse square law says for every doubling of distance, the light becomes 1/4th as bright.

You have the same amount of photons but a larger area to light up. So coverage increases but intensity decreases.

In the first photo, the light is very close to her face. The intensity of the light is very concentrated. From the perspective of the camera, her face is super bright, but the background is very dim in comparison.
But as you move the light farther away, the photons spread out. If you leave the light on the same power and the camera at the same exposure, the photo on the right would look very dim—probably just pure black. So you'd have to compensate by increasing the power of the light (more photons) or adjusting the exposure of the camera (higher sensitivity) or both. But once you make those adjustments the background and her face seem very evenly lit.
In the first photo, relative to the light source, the background is far away compared to her face. The light might be 5 feet from her face but 10 feet from the background. It has to travel double the distance to hit the background so the intensity of the light hitting the background is 75% darker than the light hitting her face.
The majority of photons are hitting the face and only a few are escaping to the background.
But if the light is 20 feet from her face and 25 feet from the background, the light only travels 25% farther to hit the background. So the background is only 36% darker than the light hitting her face.
To achieve the same exposure the number of photons is increased substantially, but they are spread out and not concentrated in one area.
If you increase the distance enough, the difference gets less and less perceptible.

Now imagine the light is 93 million miles away. The background would only be 0.0000000004% darker than her face.
From the Earth's perspective, the edge of the Moon is roughly 1000 miles farther away from the center of the Moon. And about 0.001075% farther from the Sun. The falloff of light would be impossible for our eyeballs to detect.
To review, the Moon has edge-to-edge lighting with no specular highlights because the surface is bumpy and scatters light and the Sun is ridiculously far away. I'm sure there are other optical effects at play due to the atmosphere and reflective properties mentioned, but by and large, that is what's going on.
It's the same reason the face of a large boulder in direct sunlight doesn't have any bright spots or quick shadow falloff.

Can you use this knowledge to help your photography?
Yes!
Lighting indoor group photos can be very tricky.

You often have several rows of people. If your light source is too close, you may have difficulty getting a good exposure on all of their faces because of the varied distances involved. The back row of people may appear very dark. But if the light is too far away, you may end up getting harsh shadows.
Large light sources produce softer, more flattering light.
Small light sources produce harder, harsher light.
Distant light sources produce even light.
Distant light sources have a smaller apparent size.
Which means you need really big modifiers so you can put the light far enough away to get soft AND even lighting. You have to make the light sources bigger to compensate for the distance.

If all you have is a flash, you can bounce it off the ceiling or a large white wall to increase the size of your light source. Just make sure it is far enough away from everyone to get a proper exposure of all their smiling faces.

there's a part of canto vi I've been thinking about since it came out, and it doesn't actually have anything to do with Heathcliff.

She is bitter as fuck and as time goes on she's getting worse at keeping it down. Sinclair's the one who started it, by talking about how sad it is that they'd never get to see color, and Rodya starts to get a little irritated over it (yeah, sure, pity the Backstreets folk and their poor miserable little lives, privileged nest boy), but she's obviously trying not to straight up call Sinclair a privileged nest boy because she doesn't want to. But then Yi Sang and Ishmael join in on talking about how sad this place is with no color and she just can't keep her opinion down.
But that makes the atmosphere tense, and she hates a tense atmosphere, so she changes the subject and her tone, not giving a damn about how obvious it is. also, haha, ice and cold references.
And actually, this doesn't really have much evidence to support it, but I wonder if she holds a higher level of resentment for Sinclair in particular.
Canto II had some discussion about how Rodya wishes she was special (and while I think what Sonya said about her killing the tax collector just to feel special is absolute bullshit, I do also think there is some truth to her wanting to feel special), and introduced us to the concept of The Sign in a way that was vague and more like foreshadowing than actually introducing it. Then Canto III was all about The Sign, and how special Sinclair is, and since then we've had people talking about signs and stars and a new birth of the world and it's all stuff Rodya doesn't get to be part of.
I don't think she wants to hold resentment for Sinclair, and she especially never wants him to know, but going back after all this time and rereading this one interaction with him in Canto II felt pretty jarring.

the more important part of this is the way it feels like she's making a joke at Heathcliff's expense, for being poor, like even though she's also from the Backstreets she feels she's "above" it.
She absolutely does not feel this way.

Once again, there's the harsh juxtaposition between casual, fun-loving Rodya, and tired, poor man's advocate Rodya. Almost everyone on the team speaks through the lens of a Nest dweller (I have to wonder if learning that Heathcliff was apparently raised in a mansion made her even more bitter), and the way she's so short with her mention of the Sweepers makes me think she's thinking about how painfully obvious it would have been to any other Backstreets dweller. And then, right after, dropping back into her casual voice, and Sinclair revealing that Rodya used the fucked up Backstreets creature to tease him...
Other obvious moments of Rodya being bitter as hell about rich people include this part of S.E.A.

and this part of her observation logs on Spiral of Contempt (actually, nearly everything in that log that isn't about the physical abnormality has to do with how much she hates how rich people look down upon the poor)

Hong Lu's canto comes after Don's, and then after his is Ryōshū's, who, based on her source material, probably served one of the most awful, contemptuous rich people the sinners have access to, and I really hope at some point here Rodya gets to snap in a big way
...hey so I wrote this entire post at 1 in the morning and then saved it to drafts because I didn't want to post something at 1 in the morning. the Timekilling Time trailer came out about two hours later, featuring both Rodya... and the long-awaited return of the Yurodiviye. so now it's past 3 in the morning for me but I'm posting it now anyway because ohohoho seeing the Yurodiviye again has given me SO much energy

Opened my copy of Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases for the first time in a decade and man, I forgot this is a goldmine of info and Mello characterization. It lets us know what kind of person Mello is almost more than the source material. Every time he's on panel/screen he's always so intense, it's fascinating to see him write and kind of get this feeling of "oh, he is also a normal guy outside of those situations".
He says he had one extensive in-person meeting with L, which is backed up by this other post of mine where I point out that, in the anime at least, Mello references having spoken to L personally. If we take it as canon it means L and Mello met at some point between Kira emerging and L leaving England for Japan.
He expresses a strong sense he might die. I've seen people say that he's "narrating from beyond (heh) the grave" and it's nonsensical, but that's not what's happening here. He's just writing while anticipating his death and writing as if these notes may be discovered posthumously.
He thinks that, in the event he dies, Near is the one who will discover his writings. This is interesting to me because it suggests Mello either knows Near knows his whereabouts, or would figure it out and recover his belongings. I actually think this is outright supported by canon - we see Near eating Mello's chocolate in the manga's epilogue. I don't think he instructed his staff to go out and buy that same chocolate, I think that's straight up Mello's stash.
At some point he started identifying less with the "Mello" alias and calling himself Mihael.
He's so sentimental... ending the prologue simply with "Good memories and nightmares". Bro.
"Imagine you were going to kill someone. What do you think would be the most difficult part? .... The correct answer: killing someone." Damn, I love you Mello lol. Also fascinating when you remember that he achieved his status in the mafia by beheading someone. Yes, he would know how hard it is to kill a person.
Mello states that he and Near belong to the "fourth generation" of Wammy's House kids.
He expresses open sympathy for Beyond and his state, twice... based on his own narration and how he portrays B in the course of the story, he definitely relates to B's emotions.
"Perhaps these gods actually wanted a blood soaked world of betrayal and false accusation. Perhaps the entire episode exists as a lesson to teach us the difference between the Almighty and the shinigami." I can't entirely make sense of this, and I don't want to get ahead of myself, but is "Almighty" capitalized here to definitely refer to the divine? Like, the Christian God but in a bit of a sidestepped, roundabout way? Wish I could see the original Japanese text for this line. If anyone has essays/posts about it, please show me.
And on a meta-textual level, the ambiguity of our role/perspective as the reader of these notes is also interesting. We're probably just an omniscient, unmoored observer being told about this set of notes Mello wrote and his line to the effect of "if it happens to turn into [a book]" is tongue-in-cheek. I know there's a slight, hanging implication that Near did in fact publish his notes, but I think that's unlikely since they contain so much sensitive/classified information.

Do you have any quick-and-dirty book/fic binding methods a terrified-of-failure novice could use to bang something out to get over the first collywobbling step of Actually Doing The Thing? (this may be something I've been meaning to ask for ages)
yes! I absolutely do! in my opinion the best quick-and-dirty bookbinding method is a no-glue pamphlet: you don't have to mess with glue or measuring or cutting anything, all you need is your text, some paper, a needle and thread. you can use the same needle to punch holes if you don't have an awl.
this is going to be a little long but that's because I'm going to write out some fairly detailed instructions for an A5 sized pamphlet. If you don't want detailed instructions and think you can glean the necessary info from photos, just skip to the photos! I've also linked tutorials.
for preparing the text to printing, in whatever software you use (word, libreoffice, gdocs, whatever) make sure your document is set to page size A5. make it look readable. then save as/export that document as a straight-paged PDF. now go to the bookbinder JS tool (https://momijizukamori.github.io/bookbinder-js/), and upload the PDF. source manipulation:Ā none printer paper size: A4 display unit (you can ignore, or choose cm if it gives you anxiety that it automatically displays points) printer type: select single-sided or duplex accordingly* rotate paper: ignore flip on long side: check if you are printing duplex and if your duplex printer flips the paper on the long side page layout:Ā  tick folio page scaling: original page positioning: centered ignore the rest flyfleaf:Ā ignore signature format tick: standard signatures. in the length drop down, this depends on the type of pamphlet you are doing. for folio i generally find 4-5 pages per signature a comfortable thickness. if you have 6 whole A4 pages you can still do that as a single signature or you can split it into two signatures 3 pages each. wacky small layouts: ignore this signature info click the generate preview button to see what your PDF looks like imposed! I love this step especially when I'm doing quarto (A6) or octavo (A7) sized books generate outputĀ - click this to generate an imposed PDF
for A6 and A7 sized books the instructions are much the same, except for these you make sure the page size is A6 or A7 in your software, and then you choose quarto or octavo instead of folio. for signature length drop down I keep signature length to 1 for octavos typically and 2 for quartos, as this still refers to sheets of paper, and for octavo 1 sheet of A4 paper will turn into 4 smaller sheets in one signature once folded and cut.
*if you don't have a duplex printer you will have to manually turn the paper to print on the other side. I cannot be arsed with this so I bought a printer capable of duplex printing (I didn't have a printer anyway). if you already have a printer check what it can do as you might be surprised and go from there.
now to the pamphlets! you don't need a cover - I have one for the long stitch pamphlet but for the saddle stitch one I didn't bother and just made sure the first page had a title on it. you can always take a different piece of paper and print a cover on or or just use coloured cardstock and create a simple cover, but a cover is not necessary unless you're doing a long stitch pamphlet. all you need to do is to punch holes and start sewing. there are a few different stitch types below, I wouldn't say any of them are more difficult or easier than others, but they do look different so...pick one you like the look of and go from there?
