I’m trying to write a Merlin fic where Merlin eventually decides that Camelot isn’t going to help him free magic, maybe Arthur will the the one who legalises it but Merlin won’t be able to advise him on that if he’s just a servant. He ends up leaving after they get into a fight about Arthur not listening when Merlin warned him about something and when he doesn’t listen and it all goes wrong, then complaining that Merlin isn’t able to just snap his fingers and fix it. And the situation isn’t new, it’s getting to a point where Merlin’s unable to help Arthur because he’s making problems for himself. This is pre character development for Arthur, he does get better and become less of a prat.

But I’m trying to write Merlin being conflicted about leaving while being an unreliable narrator (he’s morally grey and leans into the omnipotent god Emrys status thing)

My autistic ass can’t figure out how to handle this. I’m short as fuck, social ques tend to go straight over my head most of the time. Why did I think I’d be able to understand them enough to write this?

I’ve got things like Arthur wasting time after training and Merlin thinking he doesn’t care but since Arthur’s wasting his time too, he’ll have to lose an hour of sleep but that’s fine.

I just can’t tell if I’m being too covert about the whole thing.

Like obviously I know what I’m trying to say but I can’t tell if it reads as that and I’m going insane trying to figure it out.
