stew and camping. oc x male reader
this is purely self-indulgent as well. this is purely just fluff, but I still don't want minors to interact.
purposely written in lowercase.
kaisen is @kuroismss oc.
warnings: blood.
it was dark outside, and you were in your tent as you waited for aithen to return. he went to hunt for at least half an hour now.
after some time passed, you heard a familiar footstep, which indicates that aithen had finally come back from hunting.
you went outside your tent, immediately greeted with aithen. his shirt was unbuttoned, and of course, it was slightly bloody because of the fact he carried a whole deer back to the tent that you two were staying in for a bit.
"little crow, did you miss me?" aithen asks you, his voice was husky and deep, it was calming whenever you hear him talk to you.
"hmm, yeah, i missed you, aithen." you admit, even though aithen left for only half an hour to hunt cause he knew you were hungry.
"i'm sorry, i took so long, little crow. it was pretty difficult for me to hunt because i came across some thugs on the way." he apologized as he preps his axe to butcher the deer meat.
"it's okay, you don't need to apologize, aithen. can i go grab a few mushrooms and herbs? i saw a few of them when we were on our way here. besides, i also want to kill some time as you butcher the deer meat." you say, as you grabbed your usual herb basket that you always bring whenever you're out walking with aithen.
"can i go with you, yn?" a familiar child-like voice said, it was kaisen, aithen's little brother, he followed the two of you without the two of you knowing.
"kaisen, what are you doing here?!" you and aithen said in unison, confused as to how the hell kaisen got here.
"i might've.. i followed the two of you, and it was because i'm bored of staying in the castle! there isn't much to do whenever you both aren't at the castle!" kaisen explained his reason, which was understandable and also reasonable he was still a kid after all, and he was really curious too.
"kaisen, i would rather you stay here with me and help me butcher the deer. it would take a lot longer if i'm the only one who is doing the work." aithen commanded, which surprisingly made kaisen stay with him to finish cutting up a few of the deer meat.
(๑-﹏-๑)
after twenty minutes, you finally came back with the herbs and mushrooms. it was an array of mushrooms, there were oyster mushrooms, chicken of the woods, and maitake mushrooms, which were the mushrooms that aithen or even you usually use when you both make stew.
kaisen helped make the bonfire, stacking stick by stick carefully. he also used some pine cones to easily light up the fire.
aithen was chopping the meat into bite size pieces, you didn't doubt it, he was really skilled with his axe and he is also a fantastic cook in the castle.
you were cutting the herbs and mushrooms, the mushrooms were cut into small pieces and you were sure that this could feed more than three people, as you finish cutting up the herbs and mushrooms you then went to the bonfire and then you put a dutch oven over the fire. you then put a slice of butter inside. after the butter melts, you then put the mushrooms inside of the dutch oven sautéing the mushrooms in progress.
as the mushrooms let out of its excess water, you then put the meat inside of the dutch oven as you seer it slightly. before you immediately poured the left-over beef broth that you brought from the castle.
finally, the stew had finished cooking. so you, kaisen, and aithen then sat next to the bonfire. of course, the three of you were excited to taste the stew.
author's note: Honestly, I felt like i rushed myself when I wrote this... probably not one of my best works, but I'm a little proud of how this turned out!

5, 14, 15, 18 for fanfic ask?
Aw thanks Carson! :D This got ramble-y, and I won't apologize.
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
Hm, there's the Holy Poly fic, but other than that...? Oh, okay I guess this is familiar to you and the people on discord, but recently I had this 1 am brainrot idea where Elphaba is dead, and Glinda is so distraught over it that she crafts an entire D&D map and embues it with magic, so they can both live there. Basically, Elphie doesn't realize they're in a simulation and that they might not even exist since they already died???
And while everybody in the discord was like "THAT'S FUCKED UP! WE'LL SUFFER! WRITE IT!" I had to explain... that I can't.
There's one (1) rule I follow and that's that a fic needs to have a cathartic ending. It can be sad or bittersweet, but I physically and emotionally cannot deal with an Elphaba who find outs that the person they love and care for the most is actively lying to them and has created a universe that isn't even real (!!!). Elphaba, fundamentally, would never ever trust Glinda after learning that. It would go beyond betrayal. It very much gave Glinda all the power and agency over Elphaba and it felt so nefarious and so wrong, that despite the chat hyping me up, I had to stick to my principles and refuse to ever touch the idea.
BUT. As you also know Carson, I did like certain aspects of that idea, so I let the idea sit in my brain for a bit and now that has turned into the multiverse fic, which I am excited about, has a far more expansive world than the other idea ever had, and does not consist that fucked up power balance.
TL;DR If I don't like a fic I let it marinate in my brain until the elements I like & do work find a place in a story I want to write and can envision.
14. If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick?
I find adaptations fascinating and I love visual mediums, so for most of my fics I can think of something. But for now let's say Smoke Covers Your Radiating Heart.
It's an 80s AU so I can easily see it be turned into a cheesy & messy & iconic 80s movie, bops and all!
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?
Fuck if I know, honestly. I do like my titles to reflect the fic, so I always try to get the main "theme" of the fic somewhere in there. Like Smoke Covers Your Radiating Heart; in itself the title reflects how Glinda and Elphaba have quite some trouble showing how they feel about each other. They're hiding (even though a bit of smoke is never going to hide goddamn radiation (!!!).
But simultaneously there's some silly word association going on. The smoke refers to the amount of smoking that is happening in the fic (and generally in that time period). Radiating was a reference to the Dutch history that I've interwoven in the fic and the anti nuclear weaponry protest that Elphaba organizes. The heart obviously reflects gelphie's love and the "covering" I already explained. Just shake the words in your hand for a lil bit and voila; Smoke Covers Your Radiating Heart.
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
Oh gosh, this is tough, because I don't really write memorable lines imo? I'm more focused on the scene and dialogue and if it blends together. Not whether I have the perfect sentence that's very quotable. But again, if I have to force myself and choose an answer, I really love this exchange from the Victorian one-shot:
“I don’t care,” Glinda breathed out shakingly. “I want to have and hold you, Elphie.” “Then have me in your dreams, your thoughts, your fantasies. The only place our love is allowed. That’s where you’ll find me.”
Ask me a fanfic question

Hello! I'm mostly just asking since I've very curious and have a need for more information. I'm aware that probably everyone can raise any type of pigeon with enough research and an appropriate set up, but are there any breeds of pigeon you'd say are good for beginners? Are there any you'd say are better off with people with experience handling and raising pigeons instead?
There are definitely breeds that are good for beginners and breeds that are not.
It also depends on whether you are asking about good beginner breeds to breed, or to raise individuals of as companions.
I have my personal favorites because they are good starters for both.

Racing Homers
Are your basic all ‘rounders.
These are the most pigeon shaped of all purebreds; fit, mobile, muscular, and keenly intelligent, these have the least potential health problems and the longest expected life span.
They are the average size, and take up a moderate amount of nest or enclosure space.
They are excellent breeders with high fertility and excellent parental instincts. They rarely have infertile clutches, set their eggs tight, and have very strong feeding responses.
These are probably the easiest to train because of their high intelligence, bold curiosity, and base line friendliness.
Rescue homers have usually seen some shit, and have learned to fear people because of it, but their high intelligence makes them probably the easiest breed to emotionally rehabilitate.

Portuguese Tumbler
These are a tiny performance breed, but
Because they are bred to perform, but nothing too extreme, so they are still very physically fit over all.
Their breed standard requires that their back toe lift off the ground in display posture.
Pigeons go into Display Posture when excited, and that three toed stance makes it hard to balance on skin or clothing, so ports are uncomfortable perching on people for long.
They are VERY friendly and curious, and really like people, but, because of their uncomfortable footing, they are not so much hold and cuddle birds as they are land on your shoulder, steal a kiss birds, and go play birds.
These are EXTREMELY prolific!!! Comfortable hens lay like machines and pairs tend to chain breed.
Babies tend to jump down very early, so watch peeps in a high nest box.

Classic Old Frill
These charming members of the Owl family of breeds are my beloved favorite.
Smaller than homers, and slightly easier to house.
Being bred for exhibition instead of performance, they are less muscular and slightly less intelligent, but also less high energy.
COF are what I like to call the Total Pidge Package.
They are physically fit and well balanced with attractive, but minimal embellishments.
They have exceptionally sweet tempers, but they’re very bold, plucky, and just full of ‘tude.
They are an all around temperature hardy breed with excellent parental instincts.
They have earned an excellent reputation for tightly sitting on eggs and squeakers, and their breed standard specifies that their beak can never be allowed to get too short to easily feed their young.
They are excellent pumpers.
Some individuals have narrow nasal slits and wide choanal slits (the openings in the roof of their beak to their sinuses.). This can allow millet to get stuck in their sinus cavity.

Lucerne Peak Crest
Have exactly the same embellishments as the Classic Old Frill; a peak crest and grouse muffs.
They are almost imperceptibly larger, and much more docile, but that docility can be a problem for breeders.
Some lines have peeps that are so quiet that they fail to trigger their parents’ feeding response.

Show Type Racing Homer
Speaking of docile and sturdy, these are bigger than Racers, thicker muscled with tighter feathers, but they are bred for exhibition, not performance.
They are EXPENSIVE AF, though!

Old German Owl
This is another of the Owl breeds.
Smaller than the COF, with a similarly sweet expression and disposition to match.
These have no embellishments other than their darling bonnet of a shell crest.

The Chinese Owl
Is a much more elaborately decorated owl breed.
You can see his stance in the photo is not that unlike the Old German.
His embellishments are all normal feathers whose growth orientation is upside down or sideways.
Temperament of these is similar to a gerbil’s; They either love people and are docile and highly treat motivated, or despise anything even vaguely human shaped with no in between.

Old Dutch Capuchine
This gorgeous breed has a similar set of mutations to the Chinese Owl centered around their neck, building up to support the shell crest.
This breed has a reputation for tractability, but some lines can be very flighty.

If you are up for housing something bigger, Frillbacks are a great option.
They are especially docile, even rivaling the Lucerne.
Full length muffs are painful, though, because each individual shaft is bigger around than the bones in their toes.
Clean legged or short muffed lines are hard to find, though, because only full length muffs can be shown.
I know a breeder that specializes in clean legged and grouse muffed frillbacks that I would be delighted to link you too.

Voorburg Shield Cropper
Like the Frillback, these are a little hard to house inside because of their wing span. Which is exacerbated by their frankly ridiculous height.
They are the only breed I know of whose show standard takes off points if they are not friendly and relaxed enough to try to woo the judges.
Voorbies are really fun to work with, especially since their version of aggression is more bumper cars than biting.
Their globe swells up bigger than their beak is long, so drivy or aggressive cocks will just bounce off of you with out their beak getting close enough to actually succeed at biting.
They have to deflate a little to peck, and they have to be calm to do that, so if you have the space to house one, these are AMAZING for beginners.
My Therapy Pigeon project incorporates all of these because of their temperaments, physical fitness, and excellent parenting instincts.
I find blends incorporating two or more of these breeds to be even better for beginners than the pure forms, as most of them end up being the best of both worlds at least physically, if not both physically and temperamentally.
I apologize, but the two questions you’ve asked are very broad.
Some time tomorrow, I will continue with the fit breeds that require more experienced handlers in another post.
