Another concise summary of the issue

Human rights abuses (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
Land theft and dispossession (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
A note: The list of readings is not exhaustive. It is only an introduction to the history of the occupation. I know annoying "Desis" are going to see this and bitch and moan about how Kashmir is actually integral to their country out of a sense of colonial entitlement. Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris, the natives, no matter what religion they belong to. Neither Pakistan nor India get to decide the matter of Kashmiri sovereignty. The reasons given by both parties as to why Kashmir should be a part of either nation are bullshit. The United Nations itself recognises Kashmir as a disputed region, so I will entertain neither dumbfuckery nor whataboutism. I highly encourage fellow Indians especially to take the time to go through and properly understand the violence the state enacts on Kashmiris. I've also included links to learn more about Kashmiri culture because really, what do the rest of us know about it? Culturally & linguistically Kashmir differs so much from the rest of India and Pakistan (also the way Kashmiri women are fetishised... yikes). It's not just a bilateral issue between the two nations over land, it actually affects the people of Kashmir

Sports or Just Paperwork? Suspicious Dates, Questionable Spending in Upper Chitral's Sports Office Report
A recently submitted report by the District Sports Office (DSO) of Upper Chitral for the fiscal year 2023–24 has revealed alarming inconsistencies — from events recorded on future dates to massive spending on select tournaments without proper justification. The discrepancies raise serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of taxpayer money.
One of the most glaring issues is the inclusion of the “Istaro Sports Gala” marked for July 15–20, 2025, yet Rs. 60,000 are already shown as spent. Similarly, events like the Zeyat Cricket Tournament and Boolan Lasht Tournament—scheduled for May and April 2024—have also been included in the 2023–24 financial year budget, despite those months falling after the official fiscal year ends in June.
The report also lists a Veteran Football Tournament held in Peshawar, with no date provided but Rs. 99,000 claimed. Peshawar lies outside the jurisdiction of Upper Chitral's DSO, which has its own district sports office and separate budget. This raises concerns over duplicate or misallocated expenditures.
Events like the Azadi Cup Polo, District Football Tournament, and Jashn-e-Khazan Polo were each allocated a whopping Rs. 300,000, while several football and cricket tournaments received as little as Rs. 20,000–50,000. This suggests biased fund allocation in favor of polo.
The Boroghol Festival allegedly cost Rs. 2 million—about 37% of the entire annual sports budget. Is this amount justified for a single event? There’s no audit trail, documentation, or public breakdown of expenses.
The report shows Rs. 900,000 spent on distributing sports kits throughout the year. But no list of beneficiaries, no photographs, and no proof of distribution is available. Who got the kits?
According to the DSO’s own document, events began in March 2023 and then resumed only in May 2024, skipping a major portion of the active fiscal year (July–June). This irregular timeline doesn’t align with government financial practices and further clouds the report’s credibility.
Budget Breakdown (FY 2023–24):
Total Sports Budget: Rs. 5.45 million
Travel & Transport: Rs. 413,325
Utility Bills: Rs. 634,943
Critical Questions for Authorities:
Why were future events included in a past fiscal report?
Why was 37% of the budget spent on one festival?
Why are events listed outside district jurisdiction?
Why is there no transparency on sports kit distribution?
Why are travel and utility bills consuming so much of the budget?
These inconsistencies scream for an immediate audit of Upper Chitral's sports budget. Fictitious events, inflated costs, and unaccounted-for expenses must not be allowed to go unchecked. The taxpayers deserve transparency, and the youth of Chitral deserve real sports development — not just paperwork.

Happy 77th Indepence Day to friends in Pakistan! Jashn-e-Azadi!
Tumblr media
+++
Not many Americans know that Pakistan has a thriving group of Christian worship leaders, composers, musicians and theologians. I learned a lot in my ministry visit there and deeply appreciate the ongoing friendships.
Here's a (2023) worship song from Pakistan, sung in Urdu.
Yahova Zinda Khuda Wo Hamara Badshah = Jehovah the Living God is Our King
Worshipers/Singers: Anita Samuel & Titus Samson Lyrics/Composition: Pastor Ernest Mall & Pastor Subhash Gill (Ernest Mall was one of the most prolific Christian composers and prominent singers of Pakistan before he died in 2008.)
English subtitles are on the screen.
