i'm too tired to formulate more thoughts about this rn BUT i think that there are definitely some untapped john gaius - jesus christ parallels that i think need to be explored tbh ...... like idk his whole humbleness and 'i'm just a guy but also simultaneously The most powerful person in this universe' thing and obv the raising the dead and his connection with healing (the planet in this case, but also physical illness, and also now i think about it the part where he gets a huge international following pre-godhood for being a healer, but then again there are also links with the prosecution of māori healers i believe), and the whole martyrdom thing ..... he's like evil twisted jesus in a way . do u see my vision

Called a friend last night and we're talking about good sensations (someone at work went to the scalp spa and loved it) and I was fully yelling PUT ME IN THE WRANGLER!! like you wouldn't believe. You've never seen a laundry so desperate to be wrangled as me.

I've been gone a while, and I decided to come back to play the Arcana again, only to find the app got worse. Seriously? I'm sure it's been like this for a while, but I have to scroll down for the stinkin dailies. The pop up ads were already bad, but like... I can't
This is so sad. And I've heard about the news with all of the artists being striked for art and fan content. I can't believe Dorian would do that. But maybe I should. Because they don't really care, they just want money. And I hate that they have to shit all over a beloved game that a lot of us cherish, just to make a quick buck. So sad. I love the game for its characters and rich story. Not for the BS they added for advertising their own app. What a shame.
I don't know if it's true, but I keep hearing something about them taking down the app. Is that true? Man, I just want to enjoy this game without all this crap. Thanks, Dorian.
Dorian, go do something anatomically improbable with yourself.

Assigning each ASOUE book a TMA entity (+why)
*Also taking the Netflix show’s portrayal/atmosphere into account.
The Bad Beginning: Web 🕸️
The Baudelaires are beginning to realize that things have been going on behind the scenes that they can’t understand; they are almost completely trapped in Olaf’s scheme til Klaus finds a loophole.
The Reptile Room: Hunt 🦷
The Incredibly Deadly Viper is initially percieved as a threat, if short-lived, and the Baudelaires are surrounded by dangerous creatures. Simultaneously, this is the book in which they truly realize Olaf is determined to keep chasing them.
The Wide Window: Lonely ☁️
Imagery of a large, empty house in a grey, foggy lake setting combined with the theme of grief. They are also without their guardian for a while after she faked suicide and was temporarily presumed dead.
The Miserable Mill: Dark 🌑
The Baudelaires do not know what happened with their parents here; information is being hidden from them. Klaus’ vision is literally impaired at several points in the story due to his glasses being damaged, in addition to the mandatory nightly “lights out” immediately after dinner.
The Austere Academy: Slaughter🔪
Vice Principal Nero’s fixation on the violin provides frenzied music, a common theme of the slaughter. The children are collectively cruel to the Baudelaires via Carmelita’s leadership. They demonstrate moblike behavior at the pep rallies.
The Ersatz Elevator: Spiral 🌀
The penthouse has hundreds of rooms and corridors in which one can easily be lost; there are repeating patterns on walls and furniture as well as the children’s clothing. Proportions seem exaggerated, ie the scale of the house, the limo, Esmé’s hat and fur coat, etc. The elevator is a false door that acts as a deception. Esmé is the first character to convincingly lie to the Baudelaires, and the contradictory rules of the In/Out system are nonsensical and confusing. And, of course, there is literally a Red Herring at the auction.
The Vile Village: Buried ⚰️
The Baudelaires are, in a literal sense, in a dry and dusty desert village full of sand. In addition to this, Duncan and Isadora are trapped together in the cramped, dark space of the fountain for the bulk of the story. In a more figurative sense, the Baudelaires are also buried under extensive suffocating and restrictive laws.
The Hostile Hospital: Eye 👁️
Heimlich Hospital contained files of information on nearly every conceivable subject; a massive gathering of knowledge by a man who ironically has poor vision. Olaf keeps a constant watch through the security cameras, and when Klaus is being forced to operate on his sister, an entire theater is seeing him.
The Carnivorous Carnival: Flesh 🥩
While the “carnival freaks” are of course not actually examples of body horror and are just people with deformities, they are still viewed as such by audiences within the narrative. Additionally, Madame Lulu is literally eaten alive by lions.
The Slippery Slope: Vast 🌊
In this case, the Vast mainly refers to the sky and heights, though the ocean is incorporated at the very end leading into the Grim Grotto. Falling off the mountain is a constant background fear; Sunny’s cage is thrown off the edge, and we see Kit do her little falling-and-flying trick with the dragonfly wings.
The Grim Grotto: Corruption 🪰
I was tempted to put the Vast here, but honestly the ocean itself was more of a unusual setting than a legitimate source of fear. The major conflict of the story was the infection/contamination of the Medusoid Mycelium.
The Penultimate Peril: Stranger 🎭
The Baudelaires do not know whether they anyone are speaking with is trustworthy, especially Ernest vs. Dewey.
The End: Extinction 🏭
The island is partially covered in garbage and debris, and everyone there is poisoned by the Medusoid Mycelium and will presumably be wiped out.
*Honorable mentions to the Desolation (fire, suffering) the Lonely (very few believe or help) and the Hunt (Count Olaf’s constant pursuit) as overtones of the entire series.

— STARTER FOR @ienemy ( && the darkening of westernesse )
Tumblr media
all  his  life,  mordú  had  forged  on  unerringly.  had  pursued  his  studies  fiercely,  and  later  torn  apart  most  of  what  he  had  learned.  how  could  slavish  deference  to  powers  beyond  their  ken  be  the  right  path?  all  they  ever  were  allowed  to  see  on  bright  and  airy  days  is  the  endlessly  distant  fog  clinging  to  the  pelóri  and  naught  else  &&  the  elven  ships  that  would  sometimes  cross  the  waters  to  distant  shores.  how  could  one  peoples  be  so  beloved  &&  and  the  other  so  disregarded?  mistrusted,  abided  with  at  best.  his  is  a  voice  of  rebellion,  and  it  is  not  silent  or  quiet  either.  when  he  had  parted  with  his  family,  mordú  had  not  felt  regret,  or  sorrow.  within  the  sanctity  of  his  heart,  he  is  sure  that  he  hates  them,  pities  them.  theirs  is  a  quiet  and  steady  belief,  their  hearts  carelessly  given  to  the  valar.  &&  𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖉ú  𝖜𝖔𝖚𝖑𝖉  𝖓𝖔𝖙  𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗  𝖚𝖓𝖉𝖊𝖗𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖓𝖉  𝖘𝖚𝖈𝖍  𝖇𝖑𝖎𝖘𝖘,  𝖔𝖗  𝖈𝖊𝖗𝖙𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖞.
in  these  matters  he  is  hardly  alone—  the  majority  of  his  people  too  do  lament  this  injustice  &&  most  of  all  the  fate  that  would  await  them  at  destiny's  end  without  fail:  a  true  death  of  which  there  is  no  coming  back  from.  long  in  the  past  are  the  days  when  elvenkind  was  welcome  upon  anadûnê's  shores  &&  great  are  their  kingdoms  spreading  inward  from  the  coasts  of  middle  earth.  but  no  worldly  glory  could  quell  or  soothe  such  a  deep  and  spiritual  hurt,  least  of  all  in  mordú's  eyes.  it  is  in  these  years  when  númenor  is  steadily  expanding,  that  mordú  turns  his  heart  to  secret  matters.  the  politics  in  council  halls  could  not  satisfy  him  anymore,  estranging  him  slowly  from  his  peers  amongst  the  ârûwânai.  no  philosophy,  no  debate  and  no  law  would  heal  his  people,  nay.
thus  he  often  wandered  the  fear  reaches  of  harad  as  he  dared,  and  the  eastern  regions  of  khand  and  rhûn.  &&  he  became  knowledgeable  in  no  small  amounts  of  lore  from  these  people—  from  the  mulkhêrhili  revering  alkar  as  their  one  true  god,  to  the  servants  of  the  real  fire  who  believe  alûva  and  malkôra  to  be  locked  in  eternal  combat.  therein  lies  the  answer,  mordú  became  convinced.  many  powers  have  been  vying  to  rule  supreme,  and  in  those  teachings  that  the  faithful  and  the  eldar  would  deem  abhorrent,  they  may  yet  find  the  strength  needed  to  push  back.
a  belief  that  would  see  itself  realized  and  justified  with  the  coming  of  sauron—  ZIGÛR.  an  abhorred  enemy,  a  creature  of  spite—  a  politician,  a  visionary,  a  bringer  of  freedom  and  knowledge,  a  saint.  he  is  holding  the  candle  that  mordú  has  been  desiring  all  these  years  with  such  ardent  longing.  knowledge.  to  a  man  like  mordú  it  is  no  trouble  to  believe  that  𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖞  𝖍𝖆𝖛𝖊  𝖇𝖊𝖊𝖓  𝖉𝖊𝖈𝖊𝖎𝖛𝖊𝖉  𝖎𝖓  𝖗𝖊𝖌𝖆𝖗𝖉𝖘  𝖙𝖔  𝖘𝖆𝖚𝖗𝖔𝖓,  to  his  master  even.  &&  he  readily  seeks  zigûr  out  whenever  he  can,  to  discuss  a  sermon  or  a  strange  philosophy  that  he  has  yet  to  pick  apart  in  his  mind.  they  have  ample  time  to  fester  and  grow  in  his  thoughts,  and  he  spreads  the  word  eagerly,  enriched  with  what  he  has  learned  in  prior  years  upon  his  travels.
Tumblr media
‘  thy  proposal  is  the  spilling  of  blood—  yet  how  wouldst  such  an  act  further  our  cause?  'twould  mean  great  sacrifice  of  mine  people  and  diminish  them  inevitably.  ’  long  fingers  oh  so  gently  caress  the  ancient  and  brittle  pages  of  a  thick  tome—  diagrams  and  words  have  been  scribbled  upon  every  inch  of  free  space,  hardly  legible  and  most  arduous  to  decipher.  mordú  is  not  looking  at  the  other,  long  tresses  of  inky  hair  hiding  frowning  lips.  though  the  proud  arch  of  his  nose  is  easily  visible  yet,  and  so  is  the  temperamental  twitch  of  his  nostrils.  icy  gaze  roves  slowly,  finally,  to  the  divinity  in  the  room.  for  divinity  he  is,  even  if  he  seems  so  worldly.  there  is,  undeniably,  a  powerful  thrum  of  energy  filling  the  small  room—  much  like  the  heartbeat  of  an  ancient  beast.  𝖆  𝖒𝖚𝖘𝖎𝖈  𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖙  𝖍𝖊  𝖉𝖔𝖊𝖘  𝖓𝖔𝖙  𝖚𝖓𝖉𝖊𝖗𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖓𝖉,  𝖆𝖓𝖉  𝖕𝖊𝖗𝖍𝖆𝖕𝖘  𝖓𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗  𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖑.  but  mordú  is  not  afraid  to  look  into  zigûr's  eyes,  and  does  so  with  a  steady  air  of  cold  reserve.  ah,  a  flame  is  lit  however  right  beneath  that  frost.  one  that  burns  with  passion—  to  learn,  and  to  learn  from  sauron.
Tumblr media
‘  to  receive  of  another's  life  essence...  is  that  thy  will?  i  do  understand  that  great  power  may  be  drawn  from  it,  so  it  is  written  in  this  tome  here  that  thou  hath  given  me.  yet  i  struggle  to  understand  how.  ’  oh  he  is  mortal  yet,  and  burdened  with  trepidation  and  doubt.  mordú  is  able  of  many  things,  and  cruelty  is  among  them.  though  to  make  a  blood  offering  of  another  person  is  not  a  thought  he  ever  deigned  to  entertain  previously.  &&  while  he  is  ne'er  afraid  to  question  sauron  in  all  matters  that  come  to  mind  and  debate  him,  there  is  caution  within  his  heart.  for  in  this  song  of  power  surrounding  the  other  there  are  hidden  notes  of  great  malice  and  an  undeniable  force  of  will.  nor  does  he  wish  to  be  perceived  as  squeamish,  or  struggling  to  comprehend  what  is  being  taught  to  him.  ‘  i  ask  that  thou  wouldst  show  me,  here  where  no  prying  eyes  reach.  ’

post-canon Pete angst dealing with him being forgotten about—for example, Kinn forgetting about Pete, Kinn falling for that ploy by Vegas (which Pete already kinda knows about), Porsche encouraging him to just give Pete time to rest as if all of that isn't suspicious to high hell, and nobody ever asking after Pete, rendering him even more invisible than he already was most of the time
just Pete finding this out—or even just a fraction of it—and then being reminded of how Porsche acted when he came back, yk, being all concerned and "please tell me what happened, i'll deal with it!"—which reeks of guilt—and then having to somehow deal with that, especially considering what Pete’s breakdown in the safehouse was about :)

Just made myself so so sad thinking about Aang's marble trick because from a physics perspective, keeping dense spherical objects afloat on an airstream is not trivial, and he's doing it in a tiny little space without moving his hands. Bending is usually very gestural. So. Everyone in the era of the show is, at best, impressed THAT it is airbending. But Aang's an incredibly young master airbender. He wouldn't be acting like this was the bestest trick ever if it didn't take at least some skill; he's a goofy kid but he's also a prodigy. I bet other airbenders were absolutely blown away (pun fully intended) at the level of precision and force and minimalism of movement on display and now there's no one who understands at all why he expects accolades.

i appreciate the attempts a lot of game devs are making with gender neutral character creation, and i appreciate that it's actually a very difficult task to implement that depending on the game's base code. but it's so funny to me when you hear an uproar because some game has "entirely removed the gender option from character creation!!!!!" so you go to check it out and its just like
