I don't really put myself in games either, which is why my favs are visual novels, STP was just advertised to me as one of those psychological games that also says things about the player, so I was pretty curious. In the end, it wasn't that, but I'm still curious as to what kind of end I would have in the end by just doing endings that I like. Especially with the Pristine Cut that came out recently.
And yeah, I wasn't thinking of Soukoku PLAYING the game, but rather, being directly in it. Tho, as usual, you are so much more big brained than I am and also thought of them not only as the knight but the other as the princess. You're so smart. I was just thinking of the choices they would make as the one that needs to slay the princess.
That being said, considering the knight's... Everything, I genuinely think Chuuya would be the best fit of the two of them.
And as for Dazai, well. Regardless of the Genderâ„¢ of it all, the multi-faceted parts of him, hailed as a scourge to the world, not considered a person and only a consequence, the ways the princess reacts to her environment, all of that. Thinking about it, that's just. So Dazai, actually.
(Although, the other way also works so well in so many ways, it's crazy!!! I'm gonna think of this forever.)
I heard about the game from a video essay, and downloaded it on my switch after the Pristine Cut came out because it was discounted. I also really want to play Scarlet Hollow now, but nintendo is SO greedy with their storage 💀 I don’t like playing games on a computer, and I also don’t have any other consoles 😔 So I’ll probably have to finish STP and archive it to be able to fit Scarlet Hollow, which sucks, but whatever.
Ahhh, I see!! I never thought of only ONE of them being in Slay the Princess, so I didn’t view that as a possibility in my head and I just assumed you meant they would be playing the game, my bad ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I mean, yeah, you definitely have a point, but at the same time, neither of them are human. And both of them are multifaceted 😔 I actually think, from a metatextual perspective, it would fit better the other way. Because, like, the Princess is change incarnate, right? She is, in every way, a product of her environment and people’s opinions of her, and the change is physical, every time, she changes as a whole. That’s very Chuuya coded to me.
The Long Quiet is incapable of change, because change is entirely her, he on the other hand, does not include it in his existence. He never changes, the voices are the closest he gets to it, but they’re just fragments of him, traversing from worlds that have been destroyed. At his core, he is always the same, he just has the ability to be swayed, and perhaps controlled, by outside influences, but be never embodies that. This, on the other hand, is very Dazai to me.
Dazai in my head, all throughout various AUs and lives and conditions, always behaves very similarly. He adapts to his environment, sure, but he never truly changes, not in ways that matter. Chuuya, on the other hand, is always so, so different depending on his environment. I believe this is mostly directed by his capacity for a moral code, which Dazai lacks. With Chuuya, his life experiences shape his moral code, and his moral code shapes him. With Dazai, his moral code is always going to be entirely grey, and that molds him into the same shape every time.
(And, sidenote, I actually can’t imagine Dazai embodying The Tower or The Adversary, or any later chapters derived from either of them. I simply can’t. In contrast, I can imagine Chuuya as literally every princess. Including The Damsel and her versions, for example. Though I can’t exactly explain this besides vibes 😔)
But, at the same time, I don’t think either of them are capable of fitting entirely into one of these boxes. The characters in STP are concepts, not people. They’re nothing close to human and the game needs them like this. Dazai and Chuuya are very uniquely human characters, in contrast, and as such they cannot become mere concepts without cutting of parts of their identities, or at the very least, adding other parts. So I don’t think such a thing could be accomplished in an entirely canon manner, anyway.
For instance, despite the concept of The Princess being very Chuuya coded to me, I think the Shifting Mound in entirety—behavior and concept—is very Dazai coded. And if we actually delve into the game and observe the characters’ behavior, I do agree that the LQ gives off Chuuya vibes, and The Princess gives Dazai vibes. The LQ is brutish and a creature of instinct, and he’s also the most clueless party out of all participants. Meanwhile, The Princess is very capable of manipulation and changing her stance to her advantage. Despite whatever form she takes, besides The Damsel, perhaps, she always seems to view herself as being above the LQ in some way.
It took me so long to respond to this because I’ve been DESPERATELY trying to find ways to phrase this appropriately. Hope that’s close enough and it makes sense </3
HAVE A LOVELY DAYY!! 🌷
