in my experience this depends on how you are as a person, I played a bit with it and it was neat, the ballistics system is well made and the ability to swap out ammo for different purposes and better damage against certain enemy types is good, but in the end the only bullet type that ends up mattering is the one that pierces thickest of armors, being armor piercing, so in the end, having it be a % chance to hit makes it a lot simpler and easy to understand.

there is a lot more at play than just the ballistics and ammo types, such as wounds bleeding is a lot faster and you can stabilize patients with medicine to deliver them to safety, staunching bloodflow in a quick time, but honestly those are the three that come to mind first. if you are interested in trying, to ahead, just remember to curb your expectations.

it does also make fire weapons overpowered though, so if you want to do an arsonist colony next time I heavily recommend running with CE (when it updates)

Technological Advancements

Book 4: Air, the Missing Element (a fanfic)

The Mechanist would make a return working under King Kuei. Since this man is a wacky inventor no longer having to make weapons for war, he would focus on other things such as creating the camera, moving pictures, and the phonograph.

Now I had to do a deep dive into how these things were made, all the way down to the source material. For me being born in the 90's it's hard to imagine anything NOT being made of plastic. It's also hard to imagine these things being done before the widespread use of electricity.

Old time film for photos and movies were made of cellulose nitrate which is derived from wood pulp. With it being highly flammable, it works with The Mechanist's character. I can imagine him having a little accident during the invention process. I then could use it as foreshadow and use the flammable film in my plot later.

Film also has grains of silver suspended in gelatin. Basically, old film was like pointillism using minerals, that's why they are so grainy- it's literally grains of silver. It is just fitting that the Earth Kingdom would produce something that involves the use of minerals.

And the nonflammable, nonelectric light source for projection would be those glowing crystals as seen in Ba Sing Se. Since the crystals glow green, he could cancel out the green light with red and blue lenses (or just purple) in order to get a black and white film.

Phonograph records were also made prior to electricity and plastics. Old records were made of shellac which is derived from a specific type of beetle found in Thailand and India. So it's entirely plausible to have it be placed in the ATLA universe without the need for electricity.

But how do all these inventions work without electricity driving the motor? Hand cranks of course!

I also plan for Sokka to invent the analog clock. Sokka and his new friend Kai will also invent electricity and the radio together.

Unfortunately, these seemingly harmless inventions can be used for nefarious reasons.

so he really comes in handy when you call for him to give you a hand! hes fairly patient when it comes to you, so while hes helping you hes also showing you some of the stuff hes picked up on so you can apply it in the future!

if youre a bad enough cook to set the nonflammable stuff on fire hes.... admittedly going to be impressed, however that pushes him to keep an even closer eye on you

as well as following behind to join you in the kitchen when he catches wind that youve been assigned dinner duty

cannot cook for shit, unlike his brother he has not picked up any skills since hes been brought into the cult... in fact hes just as bad of a cook as you!

with your combined skills you both do the impossible: set water on fire! you both kind of stare at it for a moment before realizing what exactly is going on, thus rushing around to try to put it out.... can you put it out with more water?

you may get banned from kitchen duties, but honestly? aym isnt too bothered about it, hes much more interested in some of the rougher jobs; going on missions or some of the hands on labor like chopping wood

that being said hes eating anything you give him even if it makes him sick- supportive boyfriend to the end

is.... not the best cook due to not needing to cook for so long- he was a bishop... why cook when someone can do it for you? not totally helpless in the kitchen as long as theres someone to keep him on task... terrified of hot oil and its splatters as he should be.... pure evil....

Green energy law to crack down on HVAC units in new year

The new year will ring in new “green” requirements from the Environmental Protection Agency for heating and air conditioning units that threaten to raise prices and, for the first time, require flammable refrigerants in residential and commercial HVAC units.

The rule has triggered special training requirements for technicians and fire departments as they grapple with the possibility of HVAC systems catching fire, although testing shows the risk is low under most circumstances.

“It’s certainly a unique challenge. We’re trying to balance environmental considerations with fire safety in this particular instance,” said Robin Zevotek, an engineer at the National Fire Protection Association.

The NFPA offers a training course to help the fire service handle the “unique challenges presented by these new refrigerants.” Under certain circumstances, they could catch fire faster than the nonflammable refrigerants the EPA is phasing out.

As of Wednesday, manufacturers will no longer be allowed to build heating, ventilation and air conditioning units that use a nonflammable refrigerant known as R-410A, a hydrofluorocarbon that the EPA says is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change if it leaks from equipment into the atmosphere.

Instead, manufacturers must build systems that can accommodate hydrofluoroolefins, a class of slightly flammable unsaturated organic compounds considered less of a danger to the climate than hydrofluorocarbons, which the Biden administration has sought to essentially ban by 2036.

HVAC companies say consumers purchasing equipment that meets the EPA requirements will face price increases.

Some companies anticipate up to 30% price increases in HVAC systems because of the cost of new equipment, added training and more extended installation and servicing times. Companies have also warned that the refrigerant cost is likely to be higher.

The systems will require special leak detection sensors, for example, that can shut down the HVAC compressors and turn on a fan motor to dilute the refrigerant leakage with the air to reduce flammability.

One of the more promising ideas is to make it into a stable fuel that can replace fossil fuels in some applications. Now, researchers at MIT and Harvard University have developed an efficient process that can convert carbon dioxide into formate, a liquid or solid material that can be used like hydrogen or methanol to power a fuel cell and generate electricity. Potassium or sodium formate, already produced at industrial scales and commonly used as a de-icer for roads and sidewalks, is nontoxic, nonflammable, easy to store and transport, and can remain stable in ordinary steel tanks to be used months, or even years, after its production.
