Oh the contrast.

Season 1: Stede and Ed in simple matching outfits, their personas and pretense completely shed as they kiss for the first time.

Season 2: A more decisive kiss mirrors the first, Stede's "You make Stede happy" love confession is replaced by Ed's direct "I love you" and everything from their clothes to their hair to Ed's beard show us how they've both changed since the last time they kissed on the beach but the love is still there.

It's also worth pointing out that in the first beach kiss Ed initiates and Stede follows along (kissing back) but in the second beach kiss it's more like they instinctively fall into each other. Obviously they've kissed many times between the first and second beach kiss, but the second beach kiss especially shows us how far they've come.

Stede understands why the crew took the actions they did towards Ed. He never expected them to feel as he does about this man. And let’s face it, the crew did give Ed a lot of grace until they just couldn’t because they did in fact love him too.

But Stede offers Ed something more - unconditional positive regard.

Ed can be quite troubled AND Stede loves everything about him.

trying to pitch ofmd to people who've never heard of it is like. okay so it's a silly pirate show but it's actually a romantic comedy but it's also an amazingly thoughtful exploration of queer masculinity but it's also a heartwrenchingly earnest love letter to finding yourself and under all that it's also still silly. it has a guy picking up severed noses off the floor with his bare hands and another guy turns into a bird and it's also the best love story i've ever seen ever. it's made me lay awake at night thinking about the choice to live because things might get better someday and about finding yourself underneath who the world says you should be and it's made me laugh about a guy swinging a snake around. the scene where a dude gets his leg chopped off is treated as a comedy beat. really there is nothing like it

From the team that brought you @ofmdcraftfair... it's time for You Wrote Me A Lovely Postcard!

We're looking for folks to make 5x7" postcard art to raise money for The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.

We have two themes and you can do one, the other, or both:

FANART VERSION: "Another World/Time". Grab a template and send your fave OFMD characters to another place, real or not, as long as it's not in the here and now. Alien worlds, an 1800s train, Middle Earth, you decide—let's get weird with it!

NON-FANART VERSION: Home! Whether it’s a childhood home or landscape or the place where you most feel like yourself, we want to see it. Draw us a physical location that makes you feel safe, supported, and loved.

Deadline to join: August 1.

FIRM completed art deadline: August 20.

Fundraiser starts end of August!

300dpi, CMYK, no photos or AI. (template on bsky)

We welcome traditional work in flat mediums as well as flat-ish mediums such as embroidery or collage that may contain elements better captured with digital photography as opposed to scanning, just as long as the final file meets the minimum size and quality requirements for printing. (No traditional photography for this project)

Finished postcards will be printed and available through a 32auctions sale, all donations going to TYC!
