made in honor of the now-extinct population of Falasteen crocodiles, the sunbirds that almost lost their names, and everyone else surviving the attempted erasure.
posted the other week as part of an ongoing fundraiser offering free prints and paid, with 100% of proceeds going to Care for Gaza. it has since been translated, wheatpasted, and flown on kites all over the world from Saigon to Scotland...!!!
monetary donations are never a substitute for holistic political action, and a push for a different world... but the shows of solidarity and support have lifted my spirits so much.
this is now available on a t-shirt too, screenprinted by hand in Texas!same deal: all profits go to food, medicine, and other critical supplies via Care for Gaza (& the PCRF). thank you for sharing.
image description below:
a Palestine sunbird holds red poppies in their beak next to the text RIGHT TO EXIST. a Palestine crocodile (a subspecies of the Nile, now extinct thanks to occupying forces) guards a shining key next to the text RIGHT TO RETURN. a Palestinian olive tree, full of fruit is next to the text RIGHT TO RESIST. a Palestinian family of five, all embracing each other next to the text RIGHT TO REMAIN.

Ok but can we just talk about the fact that in Epic Penelope was asking Odysseus himself, instead of Eurycleia (like in the Odyssey), to move the olive bed? This is a test in both ways: to see if this is truly the Odysseus she once knew; and to see if Odysseus in this new mindset would actually be willing enough to try and move it (if you’ve done so many monstrous things for me, are you willing to make this one more sacrifice to bring me some peace?).
Rage was Odysseus’s response—how could this woman he loved so much ask him to destroy the symbol of their everlasting love himself? The only way to move it is to cut it from its roots—the very roots where their love first sprung, where their memories of the past forever remained (when he was still the kind and gentle husband she used to know, and she was still the passionate wife without all these years of weariness). How could she ask him to destroy any of these with his own hands?
There was a length this man-made monster wouldn’t go, after all.
And this was the Odysseus she knew, and would fall in love with, over and over again.
So she rejoiced, and in her happiness shouted “only my husband knew that, so I guess that makes him you”; But she feared Odysseus would hate her for ever suggesting this, so in her desperation she explained “only my husband knew that, so I guess that makes him you”; But this man before her refused to see how deep inside he was still the man Penelope knew, so she exclaimed “only my husband knew that, so I guess that makes him you”; And she had found her love at last, so in her excitement she declared “only my husband knew that, so I guess that makes him you”.
Only then did Odysseus realize, he passed the test, after all.
