Megop - The Green Knight

The king wanted to cheer his daughter, so he said to her jestingly that he would look carefully among the princes to see whether he could not find one among them all who would be worthy to become her husband.

Then the princess answered him and said, "I thank you, dear father; if you see the Green Knight, greet him and tell him that I am waiting and longing for him, for he alone and no other can free me from my suffering."

The Green Knight is one of my favourite Fairytales and it’s also a VERY underrated one.

So to make one thing clear: This AU is NOT based on the Arthurian Legend of Gawain and the green knight. It’s a danish fairytale that just so has the unfortunate fate of sharing a name with a legend from the King Arthur Mythos.

Also the link will send you to one of MANY versions of this classic danish fairytale. The AU however will take elements from the different versions to create a unique patchwork.

So let’s start with the roles:

Optimus is the beautiful trapped princess

Megatron is the Green Knight (Or i guess Grey Knight in this case)

Ultra Magnus is the King

And Sentinel is the jealous brother.

The story begins as all stories do in a beautiful kingdom with a king and his beloved family. King Ultra Magnus has two sons: the kind and just Optimus and the stuck-up snobby Sentinel.

One day however Ultra Magnus’ conjunx (no clue if I’d just create a half-assed OC for this or if there any tf Characters that might work for this role) dies from the rust plague and asks Magnus to look after their children and fulfil them any wish they might have.

Now either Sentinel starts tormenting and bullying Optimus as they grow up(because he is petty like that) to the point Optimus asks their sire to PLEASE let him live outside of the palace to get away from his brother

Or

Sentinel asks their sire directly to send Optimus away.

In both cases however Ultra Magnus is bound by his promise to his late conjunx and has to send Optimus away.

Optimus now lives in a tower built on a small island in the middle of a lake hidden deep in the woods. He may be isolated but at least he is far away from Sentinel’s taunting. He was content. He was safe. And yet he always felt a deep longing for more in his spark.

His sire visits him regularly and one such visit he tells Optimus that he will be gone on a journey for a long time to be present at a gathering of kings and nobles from many lands. He tries to cheer his son up by promising to keep his optics open for a potential conjunx for him.

But Optimus simply tells him: “ "I thank you, dear father; if you see the Grey Knight Megatron, greet him and tell him that I am waiting and longing for him, for he alone and no other can free me from my suffering."

Which is rather odd as there is no one he knows who goes by the title of the grey knight. But he remembered the oath he took at his own conjunx’s deathbed and promised he’d keep optics open for this grey knight.

And just as Ultra Magnus thought there was no “grey knight” at the meeting. On his journey home however he got caught in a heavy thunderstorm and took refuge in a castle he stumbled across in the forest. He knocked on the castle gates and a huge grey and silver mech opened the doors for him.

The mech let Ultra Magnus wait out the storm and introduced himself as the grey knight Megatron. Instantly Ultra Magnus tells Megatron about his son’s request and Megatron hands him a book, saying Ultra Magnus should give to Optimus as a gift from him.

And so when Ultra Magnus returns to the tower in the lake he hands Optimus the book saying it is a gift from the grey mech Megatron.

Once his sire had left, Optimus opens the book and begins to read the first few lines

The wind has risen on the sea, And bloweth over field and lea, And while on earth broods silent night, Who, to the knight, her troth will plight?

And just then he hears someone shout his name outside the window. Optimus looks out and sees the grey knight from his dreams on a row boat dock onto the little island and climb through his window.

“Have no fear, dear prince” Megatron explained “The magic words in the book have brought me here to you. I mean you no harm. I can see the sadness in your optics. So feel free to tell me all your sorrows and let me relieve you of your pains.”

And indeed Optimus began to tell Megatron about how lonely he felt on this island. How his own brother mistreated him, how he just wished he could run away from it all or at the very least have someone by his side.

And so it began that each night Megatron would come to visit Optimus and the two of them would simply talk and slowly fall in love with each other.

One day however Sentinel decided to visit his “dear brother” in his tower and stay for a few days. Of course these days were filled with mockery and pain for Optimus and he felt like walking on eggshells in his own house. But he always looked forward for nightfall - For Megatron.

But of course Sentinel is a nosy bot and decided to listen in on the conversation his brother and his nightly visitor had one night.

That night Optimus confessed to Megatron that he was carrying and Megatron picked him up in excitement, twirling the prince around laughing about how he is gonna be a sire and how he will build their sparkling’s crib with his own hands and carry Optimus off to his realm. Megatron, settling Optimus down again, promised that he will prepare everything for Optimus and the sparkling in his castle and that once that is done he will whisk Optimus away and carry him off to his own kingdom to reign by his side as his conjunx endura.

Of course Sentinel can’t just have some random knight steal away his favourite bullying victim so during one of Megatron’s nightly visits, while the knight was occupied with his beloved, Sentinel attached tiny poisoned needles on the oar Megatron used to row over the lake to his dear prince.

When the night ended and morning came Megatron decided to head home and pricked himself on the poisoned needles on his oar.

Optimus noticed that his beloved knight suddenly stop visiting him at night. He grew anxious, wondering what happened to him or if Megatron was lying about being excited to be a sire and make Optimus his conjunx.

That is when he heard two birds talk to each other outside his window.

He overheard the birds talk over how the grey knight has fallen ill due to poison and only the nine snakes in the tower’s basement could save him. Determined to save the knight Optimus snuck into the basement and caught the nine snakes.

He traveled to the grey knight ‘s castle and took over the job as a kitchen maid in disguise.

Over the course of three days he prepared him soup made from three of the nine snakes every day to cure him. All the while the grey knight, delirious from the poison, kept wheeping about his darling prince Optimus and his sparkling. Crying out how he must get them far away from Sentinel and anyone who could hurt his beloved family.

After his recovery, the green knight saw Optimus work in the kitchen and recognized him immediately. He pulled Optimus into a tight embrace whispering: “I had promised to save you. But look at you my sweetspark. You’ve escaped from Sentinel all on your own and came to rescue me instead!”

The two of them got married soon after and welcomed their first of many sparklings, Hot Rod, to the world.
