Each Qirat is like the size of the (Mount) Uhud. He who offers the funeral prayer only and returns before the burial will return with the reward of one Qirat only."

BASICS OF ISLAM: SUPPLICATION(DUA): PART 1

Supplication (dua / prayer) is a deed of worship. Every deed of worship has a determined time; supplication also has a determined time.  

Just as a prayer has fardh and nafilah parts so too does a supplication have fardh and nafilah parts. Nafilah prayers can generally be performed any time but fardh prayers have to be performed at certain times.

It is a nafilah deed of worship to make supplication all the time, whether there is a problem or not. However, to make supplication at a time of misfortune and problem is like fardh; that is, its time has come.

“The supplication is the essence of worship.” (Tirmidhi, Daawat 1)

It is possible to see the close relationship between worship and supplication from the hadith above.

The more the conditions of supplication are fulfilled, the more probable is the acceptance of supplication. The issues that we need to be careful about so that our supplication will be accepted are as follows:

- To clean our spirit from sins, which are spiritual impurities, by repenting.

- To eat and drink legitimate (halal) food and beverages bought through legitimately earned money.

- To have wuduu, to turn toward the qiblah and to open the hands toward the sky.

- To start the supplication with audhu-basmala, praising Allah and sending greetings to the Prophet.

- To abandon oppression and to repent of sins.

- Not to ask things that necessitate sins and not to hurry.

- To make supplication sincerely and to continue supplication.

- Not to ask things against other Muslims and things that will harm them; not to curse the families, children and wealth of other Muslims.

- Not to ask things that are contrary to Islam.

- Not to shout and not to show off through literary arts in supplication.

- To make supplication after prayers, especially fardh prayers.

- To make supplication between adhan and iqamah for the fardh prayer.

- To make supplication in the prostrations of nafilah prayers.

- To make supplication on Friday.

- To make supplication on Ramadan nights, nights of eid al-fitr and eid al-adha, nights of Miraj, Barat, Qadr and Friday.

- To make supplication when one is ill.

- To make supplication while fasting, especially at the time of iftaar (breaking fast).

- To make supplication when one is in ihram for hajj or umrah.

- To make supplication for one’s Muslim brother in his absence.

- To make supplication at times of material and spiritual abundance.

- To make supplication with the supplications mentioned in hadiths and reported from Companions.

- To make supplication heartily and sincerely, believing that every supplication will be answered.

- To start and end a supplication by praising Allah and sending greetings to the Prophet.

- To say "ameen" at the end of supplication and wipe one’s face with his hands.

If a person acts accordingly, that supplication will inshallah be accepted.

A person needs to regard Allah as the being closest to him and he must never forget Him.

We need to arrange our lives and live according to Islam if we want our supplications to be accepted and attain Allah's consent. 

In fact, all prayers are answered. However, it is not necessary for every prayer to be accepted exactly and to be given in this world. If you go to see a doctor and say, “O doctor! Will you give me this medicine?”, if that medicine is useful for you, the doctor will say, “Here you are.” However, if what you want is irrelevant, useless or harmful, he will not give it to you; he will give you something better.

Similarly, Allah Almighty, who is absolutely wise, answers us and our prayers. However, to accept a prayer is based on His wisdom; therefore, He sometimes gives exactly what is asked, sometimes better than what is asked and sometimes does not give what is asked because He knows that it is harmful.

For instance, if a person asks a son but if he is given a daughter like Hazrat Maryam (Mary), does it mean his prayer has not been accepted or is it regarded to have been accepted in a better way? If a person asks worldly wealth and if he is given otherworldly wealth, does it mean that his prayer has not been accepted?

The Prophet explains this fact as follows:

“There is none who utters a supplication, except that Allah gives him what he asked, or prevents evil from him that is equal to it – as long as he does not supplicate for something evil, or the cutting of ties of kinship.” (Tirmidhi, Daawat 145)

Queen Rania of Jordan celebrates her 53rd birthday on 31 August 2023

The Royal Court has released two new portraits of Queen Rania for the happy occasion.

The past year featured a number of joyous occasions for the Hashemites: the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein, the wedding of Princess Iman, the university graduation of Princess Salma, and the high school graduation of Prince Hashem.

In the days and weeks preceding their children’s weddings, Their Majesties were eager to share their happiness with their country’s people, involving the Jordanian public in the various celebrations marking the marriages of their first-born son and eldest daughter.

Her Majesty hosted a Henna party for Princess Iman, as well as a dinner party held in honor of the Crown Prince’s wife, Princess Rajwa, where the Queen and members of the royal family were joined by women from across Jordan’s 12 governorates to celebrate the two happy occasions. Both events spotlighted the richness of Jordanian culture and included several folkloric musical and dance performances by local female artists.

Throughout the year, Queen Rania continued to follow up on issues of importance to the Jordanian public by carrying out a number of visits to charitable associations, home-based businesses, startups, and other organizations across the country’s cities, villages, and rural areas.

A celebrated advocate for women and youth, Her Majesty’s local engagements included meetings with women artisans and young entrepreneurs, as well as visits to a number of women-led initiatives and associations supporting women’s financial empowerment.

During the holy month of Ramadan last March, for the second consecutive year, the Queen organized a mission to Umrah – the lesser Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca – for 500 women from across Jordan, a group of whom the Queen joined to perform the sacred pilgrimage herself. Earlier, in December 2022, Her Majesty took part in the lighting of the Fuheis Christmas tree among members of Jordan’s Christian minority.

Alongside her work within Jordan, over the course of the year, Queen Rania participated in several distinguished global gatherings, and accompanied His Majesty on a number of regional and international working visits.

At the invitation of the Her Majesty Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom, Queen Rania attended a reception at Buckingham Palace in London aiming to raise awareness of violence against women and girls. She also met with U.S. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at the White House while joining His Majesty and Crown Prince Al Hussein on a visit to Washington, D.C.

While in D.C., the Queen delivered the keynote speech at the 2023 National Prayer Breakfast (NPB) Gathering’s International Luncheon on Capitol Hill, where she affirmed that religion is not “a shelter for hiding,” but “a launch pad for living.” She also posited that, in the face of widespread polarization, the act of prayer can lead us towards a better, more nuanced path that she described as “the third way.”

“This third way is not the average of extremes, but rises above the binary, elevating us to higher ground that can become common ground as well,” she said. “Our win doesn’t need to be someone else’s loss. And being right doesn’t mean that the other side is wrong — only that we need other points of view to see a multi-dimensional picture.”

The Queen also spoke at the 2023 Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, where she underscored the potential pitfalls of humanity’s increased reliance on technology. “I am concerned that we’re undervaluing the most precious currency of all – our time,” Her Majesty said. “I am concerned that, even as virtual reality improves by the day, we’re neglecting the needs of our actual reality.”

In her capacity as a member of the Earthshot Prize Council, the Queen delivered remarks at the first-ever Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, hosted in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. In her speech, Her Majesty called for mobilizing collective action and ingenuity to repair the planet, cautioning against claiming that “climate change is somebody else’s problem,” or leaving it for future generations to address.

This year, Queen Rania continued to use her global platform to advocate on behalf of refugees in Jordan and beyond. At the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York, Her Majesty explained that a refugee crisis is “not just a short-term humanitarian crisis,” but rather a “crisis of human development” that requires long-term solutions focusing on growth, building resilience, sustainability, and job creation.

Additionally, the Queen repeatedly underscored disparities in the treatment of refugees based on their country of origin. Speaking at the Paris Peace Forum, she noted the difference in reception of refugees from Ukraine to those from countries such as Syria, Myanmar, and South Sudan, who had also been driven from their homes.

“What accounts for the contrast in compassion? Does skin color make all the difference?” she asked.

In May, Queen Rania attended the coronation ceremony of the King Charles III and Queen Camilla in London alongside King Abdullah. Their Majesties also attended the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September.

Ghali recently turned 30 and has, he says, been using 2023 to recalibrate. In “Pare,” he sings, “Sometimes you have to be reborn, to leave behind things that I then destroy because they don’t destroy me.” He is deepening his knowledge about Islam and during Ramadan traveled to Saudi Arabia for the first time, making Umrah with his mother; he included Mediterranea in his prayers.

He is quick to note, though, that he has always believed in God. What is different is that after feeling for years he had to “suffocate my origins, traditions, beliefs to integrate into a society that does not accept you for who you are,” he is sharing them much more publicly. He wishes there had been even a single famous Italian doing the same when he was a child: “Some days would have been much better.”

In July, he traveled to Tunisia for the first time since the start of the pandemic. In the early-morning hours before he left, still awake after performing at another rapper’s concert in Milan, he scrolled through his long-ignored direct messages on Instagram. He was stunned at all the messages he had received over the previous several months from Tunisians begging for his help to fund the crossing. In a surreal twist, among the DMs was one from the young man who played the protagonist in the video for “Mamma.”

Speaking from a cafe in Tunisia perched above the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, Ghali said, “Despite all the bad news that comes, despite how dangerous it is, people are crossing more and more and are asking me to help them.”

Ghali said the argument he hears all the time — that, because they are not fleeing war, North Africans have no legitimate reason to leave — misses the point entirely.

“In Tunisia, you learn at a very young age that you can’t dream,” he said. “They disabuse you of dreaming right away. What does a person do, a person who is resigned to have no more dreams here, who maybe even stops dreaming? If in Italy, you can dream, then for a young Tunisian who wants to do something in life, they leave to at least dream, to have the right to dream.”

Whoever observes a ten-day itikaf during Ramadan, it is as if he has performed two Hajj and two Umrah.

ORIGIN OF THIS BEAUTIFUL MASNOON DHIKR AFTER FAJR & MAGHRIB PRAYERS

In June 1982, I went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during the month of Ramadan for business and for ‘Umrah. I stayed at the Sands Hotel in Jeddah. There was a small Masjid nearby where I used to pray Fajr in the morning and Tarawih at night. The Imam was a very handsome old man from Syria. I was really impressed by his dedication, devotion, kindness and beautiful Qir’at of the Holy Qur’an during Jumu’a Prayer.

One day I asked him, I would like to pledge loyalty (Bai’ah) to him at his hands as my Sheikh. He said in his broken English, “I am a little Sheikh. I will take you to the biggest and the oldest Sheikh in this world at this time. His name is Sheikh Imad-ud-Din, who is from Syria and has his own Masjid in a suburb of Jeddah.”

One day we went to see the big Sheikh. The “little sheikh” explained to him why I was there. He agreed to accept me as his follower (Mureed). He then held my right hand in his right hand and started reading some verses in Arabic language.

I felt as if something was flowing from his hand into my arm. After five minutes, he dropped my hand. Then he went to a bookshelf in his room and brought this sheet of Dhikr and gave it to me. It had REFERENCES from the Holy Qur’an & Sunnah printed on the other side of the sheet.

He talked to the little Sheikh in Arabic and explained to him how to do the Dhikr. The little Sheikh told me if I performed this Dhikr after Fajr & Maghrib prayers, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will bless me with the best of everything, including but not limited to a wonderful personality, the people will love me and I will be a very successful man in my life.

I am sharing this Dhikr honestly and sincerely with my brothers and sisters in the Muslim world so that they can also benefit from the Blessings of this Dhikr both in this world and in the Hereafter. The proof is in the pie. Try it, you will like it, In shaa Allah.

ORIGIN OF THIS BEAUTIFUL MASNOON DHIKR AFTER FAJR & MAGHRIB PRAYERS

In June 1982, I went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during the month of Ramadan for business and for ‘Umrah. I stayed at the Sands Hotel in Jeddah. There was a small Masjid nearby where I used to pray Fajr in the morning and Tarawih at night. The Imam was a very handsome old man from Syria. I was really impressed by his dedication, devotion, kindness and beautiful Qir’at of the Holy Qur’an during Jumu’a Prayer.

One day I asked him, I would like to pledge loyalty (Bai’ah) to him at his hands as my Sheikh. He said in his broken English, “I am a little Sheikh. I will take you to the biggest and the oldest Sheikh in this world at this time. His name is Sheikh Imad-ud-Din, who is from Syria and has his own Masjid in a suburb of Jeddah.”

One day we went to see the big Sheikh. The “little sheikh” explained to him why I was there. He agreed to accept me as his follower (Mureed). He then held my right hand in his right hand and started reading some verses in Arabic language.

I felt as if something was flowing from his hand into my arm. After five minutes, he dropped my hand. Then he went to a bookshelf in his room and brought this sheet of Dhikr and gave it to me. It had REFERENCES from the Holy Qur’an & Sunnah printed on the other side of the sheet.

He talked to the little Sheikh in Arabic and explained to him how to do the Dhikr. The little Sheikh told me if I performed this Dhikr after Fajr & Maghrib prayers, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will bless me with the best of everything, including but not limited to a wonderful personality, the people will love me and I will be a very successful man in my life.

I am sharing this Dhikr honestly and sincerely with my brothers and sisters in the Muslim world so that they can also benefit from the Blessings of this Dhikr both in this world and in the Hereafter. The proof is in the pie. Try it, you will like it, In shaa Allah.
