Terry Carter (born John Everett DeCoste; December 16, 1928 – April 23, 2024) Actor and filmmaker, known for his roles as Sgt. Joe Broadhurst on the TV series McCloud and as Colonel Tigh on the original Battlestar Galactica.
Carter acted in numerous television series, specials, and theatrical films. Carter was a regular cast member of The Phil Silvers Show (popularly known as Sergeant Bilko), appearing as Pvt. Sugie Sugarman in 91 episodes between 1955 and '59. Carter played boxer Rosie Palmer in a 1964 episode of the ABC drama Breaking Point. In 1965 he was the only black actor to have a role in the World War II drama Combat! in the season three episode "The Long Wait". He is best known internationally for his co-starring role as Colonel Tigh in the popular science-fiction TV series Battlestar Galactica. He was originally cast as Lieutenant Boomer, but was cut following a roller skating accident that fractured his ankle. After replacing Carter with Herb Jefferson, Jr., producer Glen A. Larson instead offered Terry Carter the role of Colonel Tigh, second in command of the ragtag fleet of starships, giving the series the distinction for the time of having more than one regular African-American character in the principal cast. Carter also starred as Dennis Weaver's partner, Sergeant Joe Broadhurst in the detective series McCloud for seven years.
In 1975, Carter started a small Los Angeles corporation, Meta/4 Productions, Inc. for which he produced and directed industrial and educational presentations on film and videotape for the federal government. Carter was president of Council for Positive Images, Inc., a non-profit organization he formed in 1979, dedicated to enhancing intercultural and interethnic understanding through audiovisual communication. Under the council's auspices, Carter produced and directed award-winning dramatic and documentary programs for presentation on PBS and distribution worldwide. (Wikipedia)

Please Stop Donating The Da Vinci Code to Used Bookstores: Critical Linking
Sponsored by The Nix by Nathan Hill. New in paperback.
Abranch of Oxfam in Swansea has received a copy a week of The Da Vinci Code since its staff can remember. Lately, manager Phil Broadhurst has make a tower with the books, at the foot of which he has posted a note, now widely shared online. “You could give us another Da Vinci Code … but we would rather have your vinyl! We urgently need more records to … make more money for Oxfam.”
No one wants your copies of The Da Vinci Code.

The NYPL would be far from the first library system to dump fines for children. New York’s Rochester Public Library made the move earlier this year, as did Pikes Peak Library District in Colorado. Others, like Oak Park Public Library in Illinois and Worthington Libraries in Ohio, already have or plan to eliminate fines for all residents. The key to this experiment, as Todaro explained, is finding ways to maximize access and positive relationships between libraries and patrons.
More and more libraries are dropping overdue fines.

When Ta-Nehisi Coates and Yona Harvey’s Black Panther & The Crew launched earlier this year, it proved that big publishers like Marvel can, in fact, still tell timely stories about real world issues, like how police brutality devastates black communities. But now, after a mere two issues, Marvel has cancelled the series.

HORADADA BOWLS BY FRED TRIGWELL.
Result of Horadada’s first Valencian Champions League match against Country Bowls Herons.
Horadada winning on two rinks and the Mens Singles as well as the overall shots, 125 to 95, Points Horadada 8 the Herons 6.
Well Done Horadada, a good win away from home.
LA MARINA REPORT BY BARRY LATHAM
Another good result although we lost 7-5 to Quesada who were top of the Winter League at the time. It was definitely a Hadaway day as both of them won. Shirley did by one with great help from Phil Pape, Carol Smith and Kathy Manning and Dave managed a super win with only 24 shots in 18 ends. So well done the other three……. of course as you might guess, it was his three girls, Jean Perchard, Barbara Forshaw and Janet Parsons. Our other Scotsman hammered his way to a well earned draw so good bowling, John Mallet, Mike Smith, Mo Kidd and Mo Taylor. The Berleen didn’t fare too well this week. Let’s just say they lost.
SAN LUIS BOWLS CLUB REPORT 24.03.17.
Just as the spring season starts, cool weather & winter woollies are back again! Wednesday 22nd Winter League away at San Miguel a real game of two halves. For a long time it seemed we might only win 2 points from Keith Jones’ rink. However everyone (win, draw or lose) worked hard, through the last few ends, to pull back the shots for a very positive result; points 9-3, close shots 83-79. Winners: Ann Holland, Keith Phillips, Sabrina Marks, Mal Hughes 16-15, Irene Everett, Vic Slater, Neil Morrison, Peter McEneany 20-20, Lynne Morris, Jo Pering, June & Keith Jones 22-15, Shirley Verity, Ray Clarke, Jules Pering, Russell Marks 16-12. With 4 matches to go, this result has moved us into 1st place, just 1 point ahead of Quesada so we have to keep fighting right to the end! The Berleen team just missed out this week.
The Club Championships, held over the extended weekend, were great entertainment for the spectators. There was some excellent bowling and really close matches that went right to the last/extra end. The results were:
Ladies’ Singles winner: Kath Reid, r/u: Margaret Morrison.
Men’s Singles winner: Russell Marks, r/u: Julian Pering.
Ladies’ Pairs winners: Kath Reid & Sheila Cammack, r/u: Ann Holland & Pam Lockett.
Men’s Pairs winners: Steve Simmons & Julian Pering, r/u: Ray Pollock & Giuseppe Galelli.
Mixed Pairs winners: Kath Reid & Tom Hill, r/u: Sabrina & Russell Marks.
Mixed Triples winners: Sabrina Marks, Keith Jones & Russell Marks, r/u: Lynne Morris, Roy Cordell & Tom Hill.
Mixed Rinks winners: Steve Simmons, Sabrina Marks, Keith Jones & Russell Marks, r/u: Ros Holmes, Christine Brooks, Dave Blackie & Scott Malden.
Drawn 2 Wood Pairs winners: Ros Holmes & Phil Hasler, r/u: Dave Blackie & Peter Fuller.

The Leylines live @ The Marrs Bar
The Leylines with: Under A Banner + Nick Parker
Date/Time Date(s) - Friday, April 28, 2017 - 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm Cost: £8 in advance £10 on the door Tickets: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/392177
British folk-punk for a summer’s afternoon, a sound forged in festivals and bonfires, with fiddle-driven rabble rousers and songs that stir the soul. The Leylines was started by a group of West Country musicians driving home from a session at the legendary Sawmills Studios. Levelling The Land by The Levellers was on the car stereo. Something about the sound of the record, the rolling Cornwall landscapes and the smell of summer connected in writer and vocalist Steve’s head. Steve, a product of council estates and stints in the Army, put his observations on the state of the nation into music and started writing. Adding the different musical backgrounds of band mates Matt (guitar), Pete (bass), Dave (drums) and Hannah (violin), The Leylines have created a style that combines the acerbic social commentary of the Mod and Punk eras, and a folk-rock vibe that will send you right back to those long, hazy festival days.
The band saying is: “If you wouldn’t go out and have drink with someone, don’t work with them.” With a fiercely loyal and ever-growing fan base, The Leylines guaranteed to have their audiences up on their feet – and they will be having as much fun as their audience while they’re doing it!
The band are very proud to say that in 2016, on top of a packed gig list, they have played headline slots at Watchet Festival, Bodstock Festival, Hazy Daze Festival, Wistful Festival and more, also playing the mainstages at Something Else In The Dean, Farmer Phils Festival, Kindred Spirits Festival and Chagstock as well as many other festivals. They have also seen a dramatic rise in nationwide following after playing alongside such chart topping bands as Toploader and Scouting For Girls, as well as festival favourites Mad Dog Mcrea, Ferocious Dog and 3 Daft Monkeys. Having released their debut album in July this year, the band has had some fantastic reviews and announced their first national tour in 2017. In November 2016, The Leylines signed with booking agency, Midnight Mango, who also coordinate bookings for artists such as The Boomtown Rats, The Bad Shepherds, Molotov Jukebox, Sheelanigig, Big Country and The Blockheads. Their debut album “Along The Old Straight Track” is available to stream on all major streaming sites.
We love The Marrs Bar – and we’re bringing two of our favourite acts with us, both of which have been here before with us in 2016. Join us for what promises to be another sweaty, ridiculous night.
UNDER A BANNER
Under A Banner have been making powerful, passionate and poetic alternative rock for around three years. This ‘alternative’ folk-tinged band have forged not just another band but something in which people are becoming emotionally invested.
The band features Adam Broadhurst- vocals and guitars, Jake Brooks – guitars and backing vocals, Simon Hill -bass guitar, Tim Wilson- drums, percussion and backing vocals, Kat Davis- keyboards.
Career highlights for the band so far include supporting New Model Army; having their music used by the charity Safe World for Women and award winning Californian author Rachel Thompson; being played on BBC Introducing West Midlands and Shropshire, BBC Nan Gael, dozens of online and FM radio stations, including Stafford FM and the increasingly popular Wyldwood Radio; being featured in Indie Shaman magazine and dozens of popular music blogs including Echoes and Dust, Here Comes the Flood, House in the Sand and Their Music Cottage.
NICK PARKER
Glastonbury (UK) based Nick Parker was 13 when he first picked up a guitar and tried to string together a few chords. By 14 he had put down the guitar and picked up the mandolin. Not least of all because he wanted to be in his brother, Ant’s band and they needed a mandolin player.
The first few gigs came and went, under the name ‘The Mandolin Brothers’ (genius) before they changed their name to ‘Why?’ (equally genius) and they spent the next 10 years bouncing around on stages at hundreds of venues around the UK and Europe, reeling out their folk/rock/skiffle (latterly known as friffle) sillyness to sweaty teens and twentysomethings.
In February 1998 Nick finally put down his eight string and picked up a six (mainly because his fingers had gotten too fat for the intricacies of a mandolin) and started guitar band ‘Tobermory’.
After various false starts, a few flirtations with industry ‘big’ boys and a few mini tours to Germany (including one where they went all the way to the east for a three gig weekend, two of which were cancelled) Tobermory played their last gig in 2004.
‘The Gadabout Crowd’ was next on Nick’s ‘to do’ list, which was more of a folky/rocky affair. The crowd dispersed after only a few months of gatherment and Nick decided to go it alone.
Now under the name of ‘Nick Parker’ (again quite clever), Nick has released two full-length albums, 2010’s ‘The King of False Alarms’ and 2014’s ‘Angry Pork and the Occasional Bird’ on German label Tonetoaster Records.
Starting to feel a bit lonely, Nick recruited a few mates who quickly became known as the False Alarms who took to traipsing around Europe with him, Tetrissing their drums, bass, guitars, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, lapsteel and accordion into the back of his tired old bandwagon.
Playing his tongue-firmly-in-cheek folky/country/straggly songs, Nick’s shows – solo or with the False Alarms -are as intimate and light-hearted as they are passionate and downright sweaty.

No threat, but UK royal wedding fans in Windsor face tight security
WINDSOR, England (Reuters) – All royal fans coming to Windsor to watch the wedding of Britain’s Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle will have to pass through tight security but there is no known threat to the event, a police commander said on Wednesday.

More than 100,000 people are expected to flock to the genteel town dominated by Windsor Castle where the couple will marry on Saturday in a glittering ceremony mixing traditional royal pomp with a flavor of Hollywood glamour.
Britain is on its second-highest threat level of severe, meaning an attack by militants is considered highly likely. Last year there were four deadly attacks blamed on terrorists which claimed 36 lives.
“There is no particular threat for this event. There’s no intelligence to support that this event is going to be particularly targeted,” Superintendent Jim Weems, the tactical commander for the wedding, told Reuters.
“People will be aware of the atrocities in the UK last year, in the last 18 months in Europe … or around the world, so that will be at the back of people’s minds,” he said. “We police this to keep people safe – we have the capability, with the right police officers in the right place with the right skills to deal with all eventualities.”
Some 5,000 officers were on duty in London when Harry’s brother Prince William married wife Kate in a huge display of British pageantry in 2011 but Weems declined to say how many would be patrolling in Windsor on Saturday.
However, he said it was the biggest operation his Thames Valley force had ever carried out and they had needed to call on neighboring forces to help.
In addition to road closures which will seal off the town and patrols by armed police and search dogs, visitors will also have to pass through airport-style scanning checks before they can reach the streets surrounding the castle where the couple will take part in a carriage procession after the wedding.

“There are search and screening locations all around the town. So when you come by car, if you park and walk into town, or you come by rail, you will go through one of our search locations,” Weems said.
“Every kind of police resourcing you can think of is probably involved in here somewhere along the line.”
It will not just be the threat from militants that will be occupying police thoughts.
Bob Broadhurst, the officer in charge of security for William’s wedding, told Reuters last month police would have to treat everyone in the crowd as a potential terrorist, prankster, protester or royal obsessive who might try to disrupt the occasion.
Police had dealt with 18 protests in London on the day of William’s wedding although Weems said they were not aware of any planned demonstrations.
However, last Saturday’s Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon was briefly marred by a protester invading the stage to grab the microphone from British contestant SuRie while she was performing, graphically showing what issues police might face.
The royals themselves have also been on the receiving end of pranks. In 2003, Aaron Barschak, who called himself “the comedy terrorist”, managed to bypass security at Windsor Castle wearing a pink dress and an Osama bin Laden-style beard to crash William’s 21st birthday party and give him a kiss.
“Our policing operation will cover all eventualities. I won’t go into what we are anticipating,” said Weems.
“We need to remind ourselves and the public that this is a wedding. It is a wedding in which the royal couple want the public to be involved. That is the story, it’s not about the police and security operation.”

HORADADA BOWLS CLUB BY IRENE GRAHAM Only one match to report on this week as we are now at the end of the winter season. Win or lose the weather has been really kind to the Bowlers this winter with very few bad days. The Falcons were at home to Emerald Isle Moonrakers and we were all very well aware that we had to produce the goods. All but one of the rinks had really close results with the lead going back and forth a few times. An exciting morning with the Falcons coming out on top. We won on 3 rinks lost on 2 and it’s thanks to one of our rinks that secured us the overall shots. Our winning rinks were: Irene Graham, Janet Jukes and Barry Evans 13 – 9 Wayne Jackson, Les Davies and Mick Kirby 23 – 8 Tracey Paffett, Ken Barber and Roy Thomson 17 – 14 The final score being 83 shot for to 66 against giving us 8 points to 4 against. Very well played to all of our team, we each played our part in helping the Falcons to move up a place to remain in division ‘B’. We are equal in points to Quesada Rubies, but we just managed to pip them at the post on shots. The Royals with their last match result also moved 2 places up the table to finish in 7th place, only 1 point behind 6th. We are a small membership club and to remain in the ‘B’ division for both the leagues is an excellent result for us. Again very well played to everyone who has played throughout the winter season and a special thanks goes to our Team Captain Peter Davis and Vice Captain Ron Odell for their efforts in putting a team together. We know it is not an easy task. Have a restful 2 weeks break Team Horadada and we will start all over again for the summer leagues. Keep em’ bowls a rollin’. Mor'easter? Northeast hit with its fourth storm in 3 weeks
Spring kicked off with a wallop of wintry weather along the East Coast as the fourth nor'easter in three weeks rolled in with the potential for a foot or more of snow Wednesday.
The first full day of the season included scenes of snow falling on blooming daffodils in suburban Philadelphia, New Yorkers twisting to fix blown-out umbrellas, tractor-trailers stuck on snowy highways and kids making their first snowman of spring.
"I want warm! I'm done with the cold," said Yana Damoiseau, a pedestrian in New York City.
Airlines canceled thousands of flights, and school districts throughout the Northeast called off classes ahead of the storm, which was expected to intensify in the afternoon and make its way into New England, with heavy, wet snow likely to knock out power across a wide area.
New York City braced for what could be its biggest March snowstorm ever, with 12 to 18 inches forecast. Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in New Jersey, where most areas were expected to see at least 8 inches. Forecasters said Boston could get 6 inches, and the Philadelphia area could see a foot.

Add Weather as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Weather news, video, and analysis from ABC News.
The storm was just the latest to come off the assembly line in the Northeast since March 2. Many people's tolerance for wintry weather was already worn thin, after repeated power outages and lots of white-knuckle driving.
"I didn't think I'd still need to keep storm stuff in my car in late March, but what are you going to do?" Wilson Collins, of Toms River, New Jersey, said as he checked his car trunk to make sure he had a shovel, a blanket and other emergency items. "I just hope this is finally it."
On the other side of the country, a storm brought heavy rain to California, and tens of thousands of people in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties were ordered to flee their homes because of the danger of mudslides on slopes burned by recent wildfires.
By late morning in the East, hundreds of auto accidents were reported. On New York's Long Island, Newsday reported that a woman was killed and five people were injured when a van overturned on a parkway.
More than 1,000 flights in the New York City area alone were canceled, with a ripple effect on air travel around the country. On the ground, Amtrak scaled back service on the Northeast corridor between Washington and Boston, and some states banned trucks from major highways.
The storm also unloaded snow on Virginia and West Virginia as it pushed into the Northeast. Virginia reported more 240 traffic accidents since midnight. In West Virginia, around 17,000 customers were without power.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said 5,500 utility workers and 300 National Guard members were standing by. The state also sent generators, light towers, plows and salt to areas that have already endured multi-day, storm-related power outages this month.
Cuomo said he was told the utilities were better prepared this time.
"We have had assurances," he said. "Frankly, I'm not satisfied with the assurances."
Not everyone was sick of the snow.
In Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, about 90 miles outside Philadelphia, 10-year-old siblings Talia and Miles Broadhurst made their own fun on yet another day off from school, climbing onto the family SUV and sliding down the snow-slicked windshield and hood before plopping onto the snow.
"If the snow keeps me away from school, I'm fine with it," Miles said.

Its narrow holes and deep bunkers, plus the potential for high winds, make it a typically challenging Open track. The course will play at around 7,156 yards and is a par-70, but the conditions and course layout make it brutally challenging anyway. In 2008, Harrington’s winning score was 3 over par, and only four players stayed within nine strokes of even over the full 72 holes. British Open 2017 Live World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is a slim favorite entering the event, with No. 3 Jordan Spieth and No. 7 Jon Rahm just behind him. Johnson has three wins in 12 starts this year, but he’s struggled through the first two majors. He withdrew from the Masters in April with a reported back injury, and he missed the cut at the U.S. Open in June. British Open 2017 Live Stream Rahm is the sport’s fastest-rising star, a first-year professional who ended 2016 ranked 125th in the world. He’s coming off an Irish Open win on the European Tour and also won the Farmers Insurance Open. Rahm hits a huge golf ball and has been stunningly consistent at 22 years old. In 15 starts this year, he’s got nine top-10 finishes against two missed cuts. It’s hard to imagine him not playing well at Birkdale. British Open 2017 https://british-open.net/

British Open 2017 live stream: How to watch Friday online
The second round gets underway at Royal Birkdale.
The Open Championship moves to the second round on Friday at Royal Birkdale. It’ll be a long day on the links on the English coast, with some players jockeying for position atop the leaderboard and others scrambling not to miss the cut.
British Open TV schedule 2017
Golf Channel will broadcast the action starting at 1:30 a.m. ET and running until 4 p.m.
Open Championship live streaming
The Golf Channel app and official website will carry live coverage.
At The Open, the top 70 players in the field (plus ties) survive to play beyond the 36 holes. How many shots a player sits off the lead doesn’t matter, as long as he’s within 70 leaderboard places of the guy leading the pack. That makes for some interesting head-to-head competition in the middle of the pack, because the players on the fringe are the ones who set the cut. It’s different from tournaments where the cut is determined by a specific deficit. In some ways, it can make Fridays more fun.
Birkdale isn’t all that long, a par-70 course that’s playing this week at 7,156 yards. But high winds can and do visit the grounds, and the fairways are as narrow as they are flat. It’s not an easy place to play. When Padraig Harrington won The Open there nine years ago, he did it with a score of 3-over.
What players appreciate about Birkdale more than anything is its fairness.
“You get much more consistent bounces, so the well-struck shots are rewarded and typically end up about where you would anticipate,” Phil Mickelson says.
