I just rewatched The Marvels for the fifth time.

Yes, I'm gay. Yes, I'm in love. Yes, I'm delusional after only 50 seconds of interactiong between Carol and Valkyrie. Yes, I'm mad Voices of Aladna is cut in the movie when Brie's voice and the choir is amazing. Yes, I cried AGAIN when Carol couldn't reach Monica on time. Yes, Kamala's excitement throught the whole movie keeps me going. Yes, I think Dar-Benn is hot. Yes, feel in love with the graphics and the space background once again.

And what are you gonna do about it ??? Nothing :P

Avengers Assemble (2024)

Captain America puts together a team to take on small threats. That's this book, really; it's got a simple plot involving the Serpent Society and the AvengE.R.S. (the ERS stands for Emergency Response Squad and no I don't think it isn't stupid) taking on little emergencies a bit at a time. I think it ended far too early; this series definitely felt like it had legs and could have gone places, but it was a nice, short series where every character got a chance to shine. And they're not going away, they'll continue to be in Astonishing Avengers from here on out. I just hope they'll have #1 Marvel character NIGHT THRASHER YEAH WE STAY WINNIN' BAEBEY!!!

Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E.

Boy I'm going to have some thoughts about this one. I don't think I need to go into the frankly horrible things the author has done so let's move past that. But be sure to listen to the theme song while you read this review.

I am frankly annoyed by how some of these characters are written. Photon and Machine Man have been hit hard by the jerkification ray, Monica having a past of hurting animals and Aaron Stack just being so much. The Captain was a character created for this series and I know nothing about Boom-Boom/Meltdown, but at least Elsa Bloodstone is perfectly in-character. It's almost like Warren Ellis can only really write psychopaths or something. This even extends to characters in flashbacks which have neither reverence nor respect for any established characters.

However, it's hard to deny the humor of this book. Once again, the author writes dialogue with wit and personality, even if that personality clashes with what I know these characters to be. And despite the fact there are no emotional stakes whatsoever the finale managed to build up to an exciting climax.

It's one of the stupidest books I've ever read in my life, both affectionately and derogatorily. It's one of the purest "comic book" comic books I've ever read, and good or bad that certainly makes it unique.

It doesn't feel like I can judge this on any kind of scale. Something exploded in every chapter, and there's two reveals about who the bad guy really is. I don't want to read this book again but I will be telling all my friends about it.
