So the second and third in command of the USS Medina, the first faster than light colony ship, wake up after 20 years in cryonic hibernation, ready to land on New Earth. Two minor problems present themselves:

1. The captain, who was supposed to wake up shortly before them, isn't there. His chamber is empty. All the landing vehicles are still accounted for. Where did he go?

2. New Earth looks too much like Old Earth. Like, the probes said it was much like earth, but we didn't expect it'd be so similar that it has a South America. And we're getting a hail from Houston... This is just Earth.

We went in a big circle, somehow losing the captain along the way. And why is Houston so happy to see us? We clearly failed.

A “generational curse” is most often referring to negative patterns, traits, or circumstances that can be passed down through generations within a family. These patterns can manifest as repeating behaviors, health issues, dysfunctional relationships, or other challenges that affect individuals, even those who are not directly involved in the original actions or circumstances that initiated the pattern. Social circles, scenes, spiritual organizations, and alternative communities have a penchant for picking up bad habits that plague these social structures in a never ending loop of arguments and breakdowns between their younger and elder members, aka generational curses.

How do we recognize these problems?

There are many cyclical issues that plague the VC and have for generations over. Let’s talk about them and try to understand them!

How do we move forward from the issues of our past?

How do you heal those wounds or correct those problems to be able to move forward rather than engaging in the never ending cycles it’s always been?

In order of appearance:

Zhen Meixia (20): A seemingly normal human. Still getting used to the upcoming alien invasion that changed her life, she has adapted to the situation quickly, balancing her usual dedication to good grades and academic life to get out of her shell and make the best of the mess she's been sucked into.

Having recently withered the loss of her father, Mei has been trying to drown herself into work and academia to cope. However, an event (causing hundreds of dollars in infrastructure damages) caused her to meet a weird reptilian creature, who, in desperation, bonded with her to preserve their life.

Xeris: A small, red dragon-like alien! After crashing into Earth, they've found a way to fit in with humans as much as they can. Even though they put up a rational and composed exterior, they're not over causing mischief every now and then.

Still young for the standards of their species, they were promoted into head of the Infantry due to their prowess in channeling energy and transformation abilities. Even though they were endlessly praised, they didn't have any real friends or people nearby, having been taken from their homeworld and thrown into combat and conquest missions.

Paul Walton-Brown (19): A cautious and uptight dog-human hybrid. Beyond his athletic, socializing facade, the expectations his extremely wealthy family have are weighing on him. As much as he doesn't admit it, Lupa has made her way into his mind, and despite his best efforts, Mei and Xeris are growing on him too.

His direct family is the majority shareholder of Orange Holdings, one of the most influential conglomerates in the world, helping with the Reconstruction of Earth, the building of the Star Port (accounting for roughly 50% of the whole Port's's GDP), and expect him to become the next in line for the position of CFO after his brother took over as CEO, causing company shares to surge to historic levels.

Lupa: A brave, but rash wolf hybrid! Being already close to Paul, she met Mei and Xeris under unusual circumstances. She likes bringing people together and getting to the bottom of every mystery, going to drastic lengths to get answers- sometimes even using questionable measures.

Her name comes (unsurprisingly) from the scientific name of the wolf, having learned from it at a zoo exhibition. She can channel psychic energy to heat her body up to a temperature where her shape can be rearranged, down to the atom. Additionally, she is trained for stealth assasinations.

Alex: A no-nonsense, muscular wolf who doesn't take no for an answer.

Luke: A small, shy ant. He'll make you a coffee anytime you'd like!

William: A slightly arrogant rabbit with refined tastes in restaurants.

Ether: A strange, reptilian-looking creature with the ability to grant anyone a wish!

Vampire Pumpkins, yes, you heard me right. It is one of the many forms of vampires within vampire folklore. Before I go too far into explaining where this folklore originated, I wanted to point out how, as you study far back past the modern vampire community and into finding where vampires truly originated from and how it has leaked into vampire media and into the VC. You honestly will start going insane as the definition of vampire is not only debatably blurry in the vampyre community but is even blurry throughout history. Oddly enough, characteristics of vampires have been applied to just about anything. Now we have vampires, werewolves, witches, and the fae all tangled.

But...vampire pumpkin? This folklore-originated legend became popular out of the three counterparts, such as the vampire watermelon and vampire squash. This folklore originated as a legend risen from the Balkans in southern Europe. This folklore source comes from Tatomir P. Vukanovic. Through his interview in Serbia and Roma between 1933 and 1948, he released his study much later. Vampiric plants origins occurred among Gypsies, whobelieved only pumpkins and watermelons can be turned into vampires. This is where I believe vampire pumpkin became the much more popular counterpart. But to find where vampire pumpkins truly started as a folk legend is unknown. To my knowledge, the folklore could not have started before the 16th century, as pumpkins are native to the Americas and did not make it to Europe until the late 1600s.

The transformation: Vampire pumpkins transform if you leave them out and under a full moon and don’t harvest them within 10 days, or you keep them around past Christmas.

After the transformation was complete, it was said they had blood on them and that they could growl. Tatomir claims that they aren’t harmful but will suck your aura at night as the pumpkins wander in the night.

Ps. Lee was 6 years old when Big Mama rediscovered him. Before she found him, the staffs all refered to him as ‘the turtle’, ‘it’, or the occasional ‘she’ because of their only reference of turtle yokai, Frida, is female. When Mama had him examined, the doctor said he was assigned female. He was in the closet for about a couple year or so, and came out when he’s around 8. He’s currently 15 years old.

BABE THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT. Cyberpunk, even as a tabletop game, revolved around the fact that there is ALWAYS something going on that you don't know about. The whole point of the series is that YOU CAN'T WIN. You, no matter how reknown you become, will be an insignificant cog in the big machinery that is night city, and you will die that way. The entire point is that there's no satisfying way to end it. There is no "good" or "happy" ending because THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SERIES IS HOW FUTILE TRYING TO BEAT THE SYSTEM IS. The most compelling thing about the series is that no matter what choices you make, you lose, and you've got to grapple with that to get to the ending that you consider the best possible outcome, and even then, you won't be happy.

There are no happy endings in Night City.
