ALMOST got my Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way costume together in time for the cosplay competition -- I had a wide leather belt that was supposed to go with this, and obviously I didn't get to making hair black. Even if I was a virtual attendee being in costume live was important to me.

And yes I would have rocked black hair with red streaks in my actual hair rather than get a wig. Photo under the cut.

I am so excited to share my Raven Cosnort from Raven of the Inner Palace cosplay. I lover how I look in this cosplay and I think it is one of my more intense female cosplays. Hii!! First of all your awesome Raven cosplay has lived rent free in my head ever since I saw the clips from EVO last year. Can I ask you how you did the head spike? How does it hold to your face? I’m planning my own build and I’m so lost on it lol. Much love🐦‍⬛

What I had done was a remix of this tutorial by Sarah Spaceman. Instead of pigtails, imagine it rotated 90 degrees so that they're stuck out of your forehead and the back of your head, instead.

Namely, I had used that fosshape material to make a custom wig cap that would go over my normal wig cap and under my wig. This custom wig cap went a little below my hairline. You could probably use regular felt but it wouldn't be firm. This is gonna be kind of picture heavy, so I'll put everything under the cut.

Looks like this without the spike in.

The spike is 3d printed + modeled by me, there is a hole in the middle that I have sunk a long chicago screw (looks like this). This is for assembly and disassembly when I travel. I made a thin, flat washer out of plastic to give stability when screwing the spike in place on the wig cap.

The washer would go on the screw, and then you thread it through the hole in the wig cap, then you screw the rest of the spike on. Repeat for both sides.

I recommend marking out on a wig cap where you want the entry/exit holes to be, so it looks like its all one piece.

Finding Your Love by Moonlight

Clarke Griffin did not want to be at this Halloween party right now. She was dragged here by Raven, whose girlfriend, Anya, was hosting said party.

Dragged here against her will, Clarke refused to put any effort into her costume, chosing to simply wear her old Sailor Moon shirt, a nod to her old childhood crush.

However, Clarke did not expect her current crush, Lexa Woods, to be at this same party. Moreover, Clarke was not prepared to see Lexa dressed immaculately as Sailor Moon.

In stark contrast to Clarke's pathetic shirt, Lexa wore the full costume, including the iconic blonde wig, white gloves, red boots, and the signature sailor uniform with its sinfully short skirt.

To her embarrassment, Clarke was spotted by Lexa from across the room, making her feel so underdressed compared to her crush who strutted towards her.

"Nice costume. I didn't know I had competition, Clarke." Lexa giggled.

"Thanks, Lexa." Clarke nervously replied as she found herself face to face with her real life crush dressed up as her childhood crush.

"But let's be honest. You're actually Sailor Moon with your costume. You look amazing!" Clarke confidently reaffirmed as she checked out Lexa from head to toe.

"Thank you Clarke. That means so much to me." Lexa smiled widely as her cheeks blushed from Clarke's compliment.

"I actually made this costume myself. My guilty pleasure is cosplaying and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to dress up as my favorite superhero. I swear I had the biggest crush on her." Lexa gushed.

Clarke's eyes widened in surprise. She couldn't believe Lexa, the hottest girl she knew, was into cosplay and shared the same crush as her.

"No way! I had a crush on Sailor Moon growing up too. She was actually my bi-awakening." Clarke confessed with pride.

Surprisingly, the conversation flowed easily between them once they discovered their shared love of Sailor Moon. Clarke loved seeing how passionate Lexa became when she discussed how she made her costume so it didn't come as a total surprise when Lexa asked her

"Hey Clarke. Would you like to take a closer look at my costume? We can go somewhere quieter and more private like my room if you want."

"I'd love that." Clarke eagerly replied as she allowed Lexa to grab her hand and lead her away from the party towards her room.

Preview! Me as Raven and David as Beast Boy, photo immersion by the incredible Jester's Forge. A HUGE thank you to our incredible friends for this gift!!! We made everything in the costumes ourselves except Raven's Belt/Medallions/head jewel, protective LED mask, wig bases, shoes, and contacts. (I mean I guess I didn't need to say shoes and contacts since then like undergarments and whatnot that's a given... but I'm really proud of everything we did).

This was a huge deal for me as I'm incredible self-conscious and I'm not used to how my body's changed. It's been years since I've worn a cosplay and while I'm a costume designer, I am not great at alteration. I made version one of this cosplay two years ago (we couldn't attend the con as we got covid 3 days before) and in that time lost 6" in my torso, not sure how much in the butt, and was at a bit of a loss. There are repairs needed for the boot covers and I need to sew them to the tights (we will be adding fishnets for flare) and moving the medallions next time. I am hoping for different shoes. There is a small chance I'll have to redo some other bits of the costume from rubs. The fabric's beautiful but there's some wear since I sweat a lot.

David did two unitards, one in powernet that I loved best, one in lycra that he preferred, but he still doesn't have quite what he wants for Beast Boy. This is version one of the red and white unitard he's playing around with. I did not have time to style the wig but I think it still worked!

Very proud of these costumes and what we did. I'm also very proud of wearing them since I always stress that we make costumes for EVERYONE and we don't discriminate against bodies but it's still very, very difficult for me to get through some gender dysphoria and also some internalized bad-thoughts from my former trainer and the person I based "Heather" in JERKBAIT on (I always cover my legs/thighs/hips, which both would point out and say cruel things about...)
