Reading Pemberley "The Sequel To Pride and Prejudice" by Emma Tennant and considering it had such lofty praise on the blurb as having achieved 'utter mastery of Austen's style' and that 'the text virtually breathes Jane Austen' I was rather shocked to reach this passage:

(Context: Roper is some distant relation and secret heir to Pemberley that Darcy has hidden from Elizabeth)

I don't think this breathes Austen, actually. Not even a little bit. Not only is it disappointing but just... why?!

Why in the world would you actually want to write this and subject others to such a grim version of Elizabeth and Darcy's marriage?! Not to mention such a thing is unsupported by canon. The final chapter of Pride and Prejudice spans presumably a year and makes no hints at all that the Darcys were anything other than the happiest of couples.

It's insulting not only to your readers but also to anyone and everyone who has ever read, and fallen in love with Jane Austen's genius as well as being an insult to the great lady herself; since she wrote heroes and heroines who were perfectly suited to each other, if not at the start of the novel, but certainly by the end. She would never have dreamt of giving the impression that they would be anything other than happy together!

Bonnie got included in a list of witches who’d lead the best and most powerful covens! I have so many thoughts and feelings on this.

Including Bonnie’s knowledge as a self taught witch, she’s empathetic, kind but can be ruthless and cunning when it’s time to protect others. Then of course, she’s a Bennett witch. Her magical lineage is unmatched. Bennett witches impacted history. But, because of her family’s messiness (unaddressed drama fuck #thosewriters) she was denied her lineage growing up yet still was still determined to learn more about her family!

Can you imagine Bonnie trying to uplift those witches to find out their history and power in themselves even if they have to do it alone? Bonnie’s been alone so many times as a witch and just as a human in her traumas she’d make sure her coven (or even students she mentors why not) was cared for not just as a supernatural species but as a person. Reminding other witches to take a break with magic, and be kind to themselves! Just enjoying the energy she feels from bonding with her witches.

Remember when Luka died and Bonnie was upset because she thought he understood her? She’d be so gentle to her coven!

Bonnie DESERVED to lead a coven. I’m sad about it rn.
