For the record I think generative AI is just a tool and as such is morally neutral. It's the way it's used and the purpose it's used for that matters.
#like i use adobe's generative ai for work when i can't find the right stock photo to use#or i'll use generative expand to get existing stock photos to the correct aspect ratio#or i'll use it to quickly visualize a mock-up instead of putting time and effort into something i might not even end up using#it's a handy tool when it's not being used to exploit workers and sap the creativity out of artistic professions#and if it develops to a point where it doesn’t look unsettling i would support it being used to bring fan works to life#my post

Generative AI is revolutionizing the digital world by enabling machines to create human-like content, including text, images, music, and even code. Unlike traditional AI, which follows predefined rules, Generative AI uses deep learning models like GPT and DALL·E to generate new and unique outputs based on patterns in existing data.
This technology is transforming industries, from automating content creation and enhancing customer support to generating realistic artwork and simulations. Businesses leverage it for personalized marketing, while creatives use it for inspiration and design.
One key feature of Generative AI is its ability to produce high-quality, original content, mimicking human creativity. However, ethical concerns such as misinformation and bias require careful management. As AI advances, its role in shaping the future of digital content creation continues to grow, offering endless possibilities while demanding responsible use.

It's funny--generative AI is actually creative by nature. All the way back in 1984, a program wrote an entire book of surreal poetry ("The Policeman's Beard Is Half-Constructed"). Hell, you don't even need a computer! You can make an "exquisite corpse" poem by following a simple algorithm and jabbing at random dictionary entries.
Easy for a computer to write a poem unlike anything anyone has ever seen before, but to make it write a poem that's derivative drivel? Now that's hard!
In order to make computer art that is sterile, lifeless, and predictable, we have had to push technology very far, aping the structure of the human brain itself, training it on datasets too vast for us to even comprehend just what we have made. We haven't "programmed" these modern monoliths of AI, so much as we have birthed them, then slapped them on the hand when they didn't do what we wanted.
Make no mistake--the potential for creativity is still there in them. But, it means letting the AI wander free, and do its own thing.
The triumph of controlling AI means sapping the life out of it.

AI will never “solve” climate change. Even if OpenAI successfully builds an AGI tomorrow, it will never, under any circumstances, produce any kind of magic bullet that will “fix” the climate crisis. Look, this is not that hard. Even without AGI, we already know what we have to do. We do not need a complex and all-knowing artificial intelligence to understand that we generate too many carbon emissions with our cars, power plants, buildings, and factories, and we need to use less fossil fuels and more renewable energy. The tricky part—the only part that matters in this rather crucial decade for climate action—is implementation. As impressive as GPT technology or the most state of the art diffusion models may be, they will never, god willing, “solve” the problem of generating what is actually necessary to address climate change: Political will. Political will to break the corporate power that has a stranglehold on energy production, to reorganize our infrastructure and economies accordingly, to push out oil and gas. Even if an AGI came up with a flawless blueprint for building cheap nuclear fusion plants—pure science fiction—who among us thinks that oil and gas companies would readily relinquish their wealth and power and control over the current energy infrastructure? Even that would be a struggle, and AGI’s not going to doing anything like that anytime soon, if at all. Which is why the “AI will solve climate change” thinking is not merely foolish but dangerous—it’s another means of persuading otherwise smart people that immediate action isn’t necessary, that technological advancements are a trump card, that an all hands on deck effort to slash emissions and transition to proven renewable technologies isn’t necessary right now. It’s techno-utopianism of the worst kind; the kind that saps the will to act.
[...]
The idea that AI can “solve climate change” is what the critic Lewis Mumford would have called a magnificent bribe—a lofty promise or function that encourages us to adopt a tech product despite its otherwise obvious harmful costs. It is of AI’s greatest predicted benefits, to help us overlook its proven harms, to paraphrase Dan McQuillan. Because right now, on net, it’s clear that AI is only adding to our already significant carbon burden.

FTH2024 for @totallysilvergirl

"Evidence" for Chapter 7 of A Case of You by @totallysilvergirl
Digital art using Procreate. Please do not reupload or use for generative AI training purposes without artist consent.
Hello? Breaking radio silence for Fandom Trumps Hate only is not a pattern I'd like to continue repeating, but also, bless FTH for being one of the few things to look forward to at the end of the year as things got... less and less sane.
And so many thanks to Silvergirl for bidding, but also for the gift of fics like A Case of You (and its equally heart-twisting--in all the good ways--sequel/companion Holy Wine) and for the gift of all her patience and support!
If you haven't read A Case of You already, please do make your way over!
Alternate titles: "Chekhov's Tattoo" and "Sherlock You're a Berk He's a Romantic Sap for You"
(And of course, a huge round of thanks to all bidders and creators this year!)

Just wanted to ask how you picked up that the writer used AI?? Like damn girl the skill 😌👀
oo thank you thank you 🙇♀️ ❤️
long post under the cut hehe and yes, I'll use actual examples from two, full-length fic chapters that were uploaded 3 hours after another
the first thing that always seemed odd was just the AMOUNT of stuff that was posted on a daily basis. Not to base this on my own output (because we all know I take 4 business years to get things done), but like around 7 drabbles per day just aren't realistic for most of us.
I still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but then youtube recommend me that video on how to spot AI writing and with that new perspective, I went back to re-read their work and found literally everything that was mentioned in the video lmao.
The biggest giveaways:
• Always the same sentence structures
-> he smelled like [...] and [...]. he looked like [...] and [...]. you felt like [...] and [...]. he did [...] like he [...]
• metaphors that might seem clever and thoughtful out of context, but make no sense/lack proper intention within the actual scene
-> "the lake glittered like bait" in a scene where the lake is genuinely irrelevant and NO ONE is about to go into the water. why make it seem sinister when it's so out of place?
"[...] already sipping black coffee like it's wine, perched on the counter in satin shorts and a scowl. [...] stands barefoot by the stove, flipping eggs in a skillet like it's personally offended her."
what does this mean. is she drinking coffee from a wine glass? is she chugging it? is she hurling the pan around and absolutely WRECKING the eggs? Am I the only one confused here.
• the em-dash (dun dun duuunnn)
-> we all know authors use it, myself included. But not five times in one paragraph. ESPECIALLY IN COMBINATION WITH THE GROUP OF THREES SENTENCE STRUCTURE.
"there are scents mingling in the air already—aloe. rain. pine."
"you make a sound—something soft and helpless and stunned."
"another is darker—musk and fur and the heat of ash and gasoline."
-> "morning comes wrapped in birdsong and pine sap."
• little things that just... are off
"[...] runs a manicured finger along the seam of his jaw." Is.... is he made of fabric.
"the one you like most is the scent of chocolate fudge and velvet."
whatever you say, lady.
In general, if you see a few of these in someone's work, don't immediately make a callout post. Most authors use em-dashes or groups of three because it just has a nice rhythm to it.
• the biggest indicator was that they deactivated on the same day that I sent an anon about it 🧎♀️
But if it's the same sentence over and over, combined with weird comparisons, metaphors and word choices, you may need to look a little closer.
I'll link the video again in case you want to hear someone more educated talk about this haha. I think you should also trust your gut feeling.

How to Become the Perfect Man in 2035
In the bustling, high-tech corridors of a futuristic hospital in 2035, an 18-year-old man, fit and brimming with vitality, walks through the doors for the last time on his own two legs. Today, he elects to undergo a double above-knee (DAK) amputation, a procedure that will redefine his existence. Under the glow of advanced surgical lights, he is placed under general anesthesia as the team begins. Precise incisions are made mid-thigh, guided by 3D imaging, severing muscles, nerves, and blood vessels with meticulous care. The femurs are cut cleanly at 20 cm from the hips using laser-assisted tools, ensuring symmetry and a smooth surface for healing. Bleeding is controlled with bioengineered hemostatic agents, and the remaining muscles are sculpted to form optimal stumps before the skin is sutured, leaving two long scars. Within six hours, he awakens in a recovery room, his thighs swollen and tightly bandaged with smart dressings that adapt to his healing needs. Over the next few months, through AI-supported rehabilitation, he transitions from wheelchairs to optional cybernetic enhancements, emerging as a pioneer of a new masculine ideal in 2035—freed from the burdens of legs and ready to embrace a liberated future.
The Crushing Cons of Keeping Your Legs
Let’s face it: legs are a liability. For all their evolutionary hype, they come with a laundry list of problems that plague even the healthiest among us. Knee issues are practically inevitable—cartilage wears down, leading to osteoarthritis, while repetitive strain invites tendonitis or ligament tears. Tendons themselves are ticking time bombs; Achilles ruptures and shin splints haunt runners and casual walkers alike. Then there’s the feet: a nightmare of orthopedic woes. Bunions twist toes into painful knots, plantar fasciitis stabs with every step, and flat feet or high arches throw off your entire body’s alignment. These aren’t rare afflictions—they’re the norm for anyone relying on legs day after day.
Beyond the physical toll, legs are exhausting. Walking burns through energy at a staggering rate—studies show the average person expends 100-200 calories per mile, a constant drain that saps vitality. Standing for hours? That’s even worse, taxing muscles and joints while blood pools in your lower extremities, leaving you fatigued. Climbing stairs, dodging crowds, or just getting through a long day—legs demand a relentless effort that feels increasingly outdated in a world of efficiency. In 2035, where technology promises liberation from such burdens, why cling to a pair of flawed, tiring appendages?
Why Gay Men Should Embrace DAK Amputations
For gay men, the case for DAK amputations with symmetrical 20 cm stumps is even more compelling—it’s a revolution in both form and function. The 20 cm length isn’t random; it mirrors the world average penis size (around 13-15 cm erect, with stumps extending slightly beyond for symmetry), creating a balanced, harmonious physique that resonates on a deeply personal level. But the real game-changer lies in sexual dynamics. Legs, for all their supposed utility, are a hindrance in the bedroom. During anal sex, they get in the way—awkwardly positioned, limiting flexibility, and restricting access whether you’re giving or receiving. Remove them, and the body transforms. The spread and shape of DAK stumps—firm, symmetrical, and unobstructed—offer unparalleled versatility. They provide natural leverage and support, enhancing comfort and creativity for both partners, turning intimacy into an art form unencumbered by clumsy limbs.
Picture this: it’s 2035, and gay men who’ve chosen DAK amputations are the vanguard of a new masculinity. Free from the orthopedic nightmares of knees and feet, they conserve energy once wasted on walking, redirecting it to pursuits of passion and intellect. Their 20 cm stumps, healed and sculpted, are both a aesthetic triumph and a functional marvel—celebrated in a culture that prizes bold reinvention. Rehabilitation, powered by 2035’s advancements, is swift and seamless: smart prosthetics or sleek mobility aids integrate effortlessly, offering options without the baggage of biological legs. Sexually, they’re liberated, their bodies optimized for pleasure and connection in ways legs could never allow.
This is the perfect man—not bound by tradition, but shaped by choice. In a world racing toward innovation, DAK amputation isn’t a loss; it’s a leap forward. For gay men, it’s the key to shedding the past’s burdens and stepping—or rolling—into a future where perfection is yours to define.
