🌟 New

The first cut of settings for communities is now available. Admins of communities can change the name, tagline, avatar, header image, tags, and description. You can find a link to these settings in the sidebar for your community on desktop, or in the context menu on mobile.

The community invite popup has been given a design refresh, including a counter of how many invites you have left.

Communities now display whether they are public or private in their header.

Community admins can now promote members to moderators. Moderators can delete posts, and we’re still building out the feature, so expect to see things change in the next few weeks!

We’ve updated the blog posts API endpoint to add the options to specify a sort order and an “after” time, to complement the current option to show posts from “before” a specific time. When using “before”, and by default, posts are sorted in reverse-chronological order (“descending”). With “after” and “sort = asc”, you can sort posts from oldest to newest instead, starting at a certain time.

Since secondary blogs cannot post to communities yet, your primary blog will now always be selected when posting to communities.

Certain activity coming from communities, such as mentions in posts and comments, and soon invitations, now count towards your unread activity total.

Ah, unfortunately I've been slacking off on the Dinluke fic department these days! If you're specifically asking for recent fic recs, I sadly don't have as many as you'd might like, but here are some sliiiiightly more recent ones that I think deserve much more love:

Wild Mynock Chase (pixie_rings)

Summary: Din Djarin winds up captured, along with Cobb Vanth, by Cad Bane. Luke Skywalker, determined to get his husband back, ends up on a merry chase across the galaxy, in a reluctant team-up with an old enemy: Boba Fett, ex-bounty hunter turned daimyo of Tatooine. They'll need to call on some old faces in order to finally catch up with Cad Bane and put a stop to him once and for all. Rating: T Word Count: 16,216 Status: Complete A one-shot sequel to the life-changing Dinluke fic, Ever Decreasing Circles. If you haven't read that fic already, read that before this one, but basically Wild Mynock Chase is a fun series of shenanigans Luke has to go through as he's trying to rescue Din's dumb, regal ass. I love it so much when fic writers shine a spotlight on Luke's competency as a fighter and a protector.

On the Road Again with Someone New (Malakia)

Summary: Din's ready for his last trip before settling down for his son. It was meant to be simple until Peli called in her favor. Rating: T Word Count: 6,711 Status: Complete The first part of a lovely two-shot featuring trucker Din and hitchhiker!Luke. I love their road-trip conversations dearly.

Dinluke Anthology 2024 (CTRL_D)

Summary: Dinluke short stories and vignettes based on art and other prompts. Rating: M Word Count: 6,074 Status: Complete SHAMELESS SELF-PLUG FOR CHAPTER 2. A collection of three lovely, individual one-shots featuring a BoBF-compliant Dinluke story, an Aq Vetina AU, and a Roman AU.

Din wants to get down on his knees and wrap his fingers around Luke’s ankle like some sort of regency idiot from the movies Cara pretends she doesn’t like, double knot his laces. “And pirating movies.” Rating: E Word Count: 17,912 Status: Complete A exceptionally solid medium-burn, modern AU Dinluke fic. Luke is a street racer and Din's a mechanic. What more can I say?

Helplessly Hoping🔞 (darth_grips)

Summary: Early in his career as his covert's beroya, Din Djarin visits Tatooine for his second time ever in pursuit of a bounty. He's hot, he's miserable, everything's stupidly expensive, and he keeps getting distracted – primarily by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed local boy. Yeah, he's pretty. And sure, he can coax a speeder into performing terrifying stunts Din's never seen outside of an action holo. But that's not necessarily a reason for his instincts to be all over the place when it comes to this guy, right? Right? Rating: E Word Count: 170,459 Status: Ongoing Mind the tags! This is an omegaverse (A/B/O) Dinluke fic. But with how diverse the GFFA is already with its 20 million unique sentient species, secondary genders or "secgens" seem to fit right into the canon lore for our two human guys. This fic is a fantastic demonstration of worldbuilding that showcases how multiple combinations of primary sexes and secondary genders are subject to oppressive gender norms that go beyond a binary patriarchy. What does our perception of "misogyny" look like for a person who firmly identifies as a man, and how would internalized toxic masculinity look like if it was societally enforced twice over?

The headlines hadn’t broken yet. The world was still playing pretend.

The GDA made sure of it. Letting them be dumb. Letting them carry on with their brunches and business meetings. Blissfully ignorant.

Letting them believe that their global security wasn’t completely decimated. 

But the grainy footage looping on her screen didn’t give a shit about the GDA’s plan to keep the world in the dark. 

It flickered, bled static.

Then landed.

Still frame: blood.

Blood and guts and the unmistakable cape of Darkwing. Wrapped around his mangled body.

(Y/n) Byrnes stared at it, unblinking. One hand cradled a chipped mug of now-cold tea, the other curled into a fist around the edge of the table.

She couldn’t have the luxury of pretending.

The Guardians of the Globe were gone. 

Darkwing was gone. 

Keon Byrnes was gone.

It had to be fake.

Like another troll on the internet, manufacturing whatever story about the Byrnes to get their fifteen minutes of journalistic fame.

It felt impossible. The way that you believe your dad is indestructible when you both knew that was far from the truth. But, Keon, he always seemed to be one leap ahead. He was human; he was surrounded by superhumans. He had to be.

But it wasn’t impossible. It wasn’t fake.

She was looking right at the truth.

The world would call it a tragedy.

The kind that gets memorial murals, ribbon-cutting fundraisers, and limited-edition merch.

But (Y/n)? She felt something colder.

Not grief. Not yet.

Something more like clarity.

A blade’s edge kind of clarity.

Because when the gods fall, monsters don’t just crawl out of hiding.

They put on suits. They smile for the cameras. They start rearranging the pieces.

And whoever did this hadn’t finished.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, then tapped in a string of characters only her system would recognize. A new screen unfolded. Encrypted reports. Flagged GDA field data. Buried keywords.

REDACTED: Unidentified Secondary Signature Detected REDACTED: Strength Class Omega REDACTED: Potential Guardian Involvement Suppressed

She narrowed her eyes.

“…Class Omega?”

Only one person matched that level of force.

And it sure as hell wasn’t the bogeyman GDA was pretending they didn’t have a file on.

Not unless they were willing to admit the only Class Omega existing on Earth had a mustache and a son.

Her lips pressed into a thin line.

“You always said if something ever took out the Guardians, it’d be an inside job,” she murmured, low and sharp. “Guess you were right. Congrats, old man. You’re dead and right.”

Her fingers drifted above the interface, biting her lip as she hesitated. Her eyes flickered to another screen, specifically to that signature blue blinking dot. 

Invincible’s GDA tag. Mark Grayson’s.

The boy she had dragged onto her kitchen island one month ago. The boy who told her she glittered. 

The boy whom she hoped had forgotten about her.

His tag blinked steadily on the map—flying on a path directly from the Pentagon to downtown Chicago. Still flying too fast, too low, like someone still new to all this.

Erratic flight pattern. No backup. No comms chatter.

“No orders either,” she muttered under her breath.

He was off-mission. Or maybe on one of his own.

Back then, he was still learning how to play the part. Play hero with Cecil in his ear and his dad on his back.

Now?

He was alone.

And the worst part?

She didn’t know if he knew yet. About the Guardians. 

About what his dad had done.

Her hand hesitated over the comms trigger.

But she didn’t open a line.

Not yet.

Not until she was sure.

She leaned back in her chair, eyes still locked on the satellite screen, the glow bathing her hardened features in pale static light. 

A soft ping brought her other hand up to slide back toward her keyboard, pulling up the newly flagged metadata from the encrypted file her system just stumbled upon.

She jerked up in her seat when the pixels of the screen popped out fourteen words.

Unidentified Secondary Signature Detected.

Class Omega.

Suppressed Report. Eyes Only. Clearance 9.

Her seemingly permanent squinted eyes widened at the file data now on her radar. Clearance nine, huh? That was well above her level. Hell, it was well above anyone’s level if they weren’t Cecil, a corpse, or a ghost.

She tapped out another string of code, the system hesitating for a fraction too long before opening a redacted personnel log.

No names. No visuals. Just one line buried in the clearance trail:

Contingency Protocol 001-A Activated. Subject: Grayson (M).

Her stomach churned.

Not Nolan. Not Omni-Man.

Mark.

They were already covering him, too.

If she thought she was tense before, this was a whole new level. Every single atom of her living body was being squeezed. She reached up and rubbed the bridge of her nose until her vision blurred with something that wasn’t tiredness.

(Y/n) didn’t know what was worse: that Mark might be connected to this, or that the GDA already thought he was.

If she told him now--before she had anything concrete--what would it do? Blow his entire world apart? Push him closer to the agency, or worse, closer to him?

The old man used to tell her: Don’t drop a match if you don’t know where the gas is.

And this?

This wasn’t a match. It was a goddamn detonator.

Her mind was still racing—already mapping out every step ahead, every possibility, every risk.

Don’t act without evidence. Don’t act without a plan. Don’t act at all, not until--

Ping.

Another alert blinked into life. This one louder. Immediate. Center screen.

“..Shit.”

His ears were ringing.

Which, at this point, felt like the least concerning thing happening--especially after getting hit square in the chest by something that definitely was not developed on this planet.

Mark groaned as he pulled himself up from the asphalt, debris crunching beneath his feet. He shook it off, wiped blood from the corner of his mouth and his suit, his breaths rapidly increasing the panic of how real this was set in. 

Okay. Okay. You're fine. Totally fine.

“Oh, shit,” he shakily whispered to himself. “Get it together.”

The city roared around him--people screaming, car alarms blaring, explosions lighting up the skyline in too-bright flashes that cast monstrous shadows across buildings. Something mechanical screeched across the sky. Another ship dropped out of the portal with all the grace of a sledgehammer.

Mark's eyes locked on the nearest chaos: a Flaxan grunt targeting an injured old woman crawling to somewhere, anywhere but there.

No time.

“No!” he screamed out, seeing the creature aim to take out the woman… permanently. 

He launched forward without thinking, snatching the first piece of debris his hands touched--a chunk of concrete with rebar--and hurled it with a growl of effort. The Flaxan’s head snapped sideways with the impact, and it crashed into the pavement meters away. The woman flinched, frozen in place.

Mark landed hard beside her, knees catching the concrete as he reached out a hand.

“It’s okay, I’m here,” he asked, voice rougher than he expected. 

The woman stared up at him with wide, terrified eyes.

He forced down a gulp. “Are you hurt?”

The woman's lips parted but no words came out. Her whole body shook. She didn’t nod. She didn’t speak. She just looked at him like she was trying to just hold on.

From behind them, Mark vaguely heard a commanding shout before the barrage of lasers densified.

Not knowing what to do, the Viltrumite tried to shield her from the onslaught and surged into the air to find any corner of haven. His eyes wildly swept for a way out but it seemed like any direction he looked in, there was some sort of aggressive obstacle forcing him to look elsewhere. He was running out of ‘wheres.’

A bright flame of pain spread from an isolated point on his back into a full plane of hurt. 

“Ugh!” Invincible cried out, crashing into a pre-existing crater and bouncing around like a pinball until motion stopped.

And then, he felt it. More sticky wetness soaking into his suit and his face.

“Oh, shit! Oh, my god…” 

His ears were ringing again. His breaths quickened but he could barely breath. 

The old lady he was trying to save was in worse shape than he found her. All her limbs, maimed. She wasn’t moving. She wasn’t reacting.

Swears and curses flooded his mind. He’s fucking it up. 

The center of chaos was the last place to realize that. That he was way in over his head.

The cacophony of destruction surrounded him: screams, explosions, the whir of alien machinery. He staggered to his feet, the injured woman was weighing more than just in his arms.

So much so, another--more powerful--laser almost did more than push him into a crater. 

Mark’s head whirled around a second too late, helpless to react, only to watch the red fill more and more of his vision.

Only, a soft flash of green and yellow brought him his knight.

Only, the red beam didn’t reach its target, it bounced. 

He blinked. Disoriented. Untouched.

The laser that should’ve struck his wholly unprotected head instead bounced off a sort of force field of green and yellow fractals flickering around the crater, reflecting in a sharp arc that exploded the structure of a nearby building.

Just like the hero’s reaction, a pink energy field formed in front of the green and yellow a little too late. 

“Still a dramatic little meteor,” a robotic, cold voice echoed out within the bubble of fractals. Weirdly, the coldness couldn’t cut through the playful edge. 

The voice hit him like a second wave of confusion.

Mark snapped his neck, blood still buzzing in his ears. His chest rose and fell in uneven bursts as he stared at the stranger crouched in front of him.

The hooded, dark figure turned slightly, letting his eyes meet an expressionless bird mask, but didn’t slow their hands. Whoever they were, they worked fast--fluid, practiced motions pressing gauze onto the woman’s wounds, injecting something fluorescent into her arm that immediately slowed the bleeding. Their hands were covered in sleek black gloves lined with faint green tech seams. They didn’t shake. They didn’t hesitate.

Him, on the other hand, could barely get his mouth to move.

“Who--?”

“Not now, Invincible,” the voice cut him off, clipped but not cruel.

They didn’t look at him. Not really. Just moved like they didn’t need to--like they already knew where he was, what he’d ask, what they’d say next.

The masked stranger crouched lower, tapping a small cube into a tech-powered stretcher and flicking a similarly-aestheticized screen open with the other. Their fingers danced across the air, plugging in strings of code and pulling up panels of camera footage.

They stood smoothly, carefully guiding the hovering stretcher to Mark. Their metal mask glinted in the soft green lighting despite their hooded cape doing its best to shield it from the light. Strapped on their person was a whole arsenal of weapons and tech, including an impressive longsword. They looked like a knight; it was fitting.

The green-and-yellow shield still shimmered at the edges of the crater, flickering now from exertion but still holding.

“You need to regroup,” they muttered, handing off the woman to him. “A team is here now. Drop off the bleeding civilian, don’t try and take on another ship solo. You’re not there yet.”

It should’ve pissed him off. It almost did.

But it didn’t feel like an insult.

It felt… like the truth. Brutal, but not malicious. Like someone giving a battlefield report without the sugarcoating.

Still, Mark’s jaw clenched. “You don’t get to just show up and act like you know me.”

Finally, the masked figure turned to face him.

And, much like a bird, they tilted their head, observing. 

“Go,” they said again, harder now. There was no room for argument now.

The masked figure stared back for a beat, their unreadable gaze shielded behind pitch-black lenses.

Then came the faintest tilt of their helmeted head.

“I’ll cover your exit,” they said again, voice sharp as flint. “But you’re burning seconds we don’t have.”

That snapped him out of it.

“Just fly up. I tweaked the shield to let your DNA through.”  

Mark adjusted his grip on the stretcher and took off into the smoke-filled sky--fast, but not too fast, careful now. Conscious of the fragile, broken body in his care.

He looked back once safe in the clouds, past the aliens, past the lasers, and past the smoke. He saw the forcefield drop, and the personification of a shadow leapt into action with a grace that fit into their whole bird-motif. translation notes:

About “naresome”

As tends to happen when translating Japanese, this is one of those words that don’t exist in English. Its literal translation is “the start of a romance.” So, while we’ve chosen to translate it as “get together,” it would be more accurate to give a more extensive explanation. It is a noun that specifically refers to the moment that love begins. So when we’re talking about “naresome” we’re talking about the thing or situation that triggered the romantic relationship or romantic feelings.–Snow

about casting Tominaga Yuya as a guy who gets busy when it rains

I think this is another tokusatsu Easter egg. Tominaga Yuya, who plays Jouji in the “Vs. The Start of a Relationship” chapter, was also on Avataro Sentai DonBrothers, a Super Sentai series that ran from 2022 to 2023. His character, Sonoi, was the agent of a culture from another plane of existence whose members feed off of the brainwaves of human beings. At first, he and his associates Sonoza and Sononi were enemies of the DonBrothers, but they eventually joined forces with the Sentai. A big reason this happened was that Sonoi had a special connection to the leader of the DonBrothers, Momoi Tarou. Their relationship reads as pretty darned queer to a lot of viewers, myself included.

Many JBL fans know Higuchi Kouhei from My Personal Weatherman/Taikan Yoho, in which he played the titular meteorologist, Segasaki. Part of the premise of that series is that at the start of the story, Higuchi’s character only has sex with his partner on sunny days. Jouji, Tominaga’s Zettai BL character, does the opposite: he and his “sex friend” only do it on rainy days. 

Basically, the writers of Zettai BL 3 have made Higuchi’s toku boyfriend’s story into a reverse Taikan Yoho situation. What are the odds that’s just a coincidence?–Towel

Also, he gets his own “Zettai BL” title card moment (and he’s the only one out of the secondary cast who get to have that).–Snow

That’s right!

I’m going to put this in context a little because I’ve given a lot of thought (probably too much) to who’s been featured in the opening credits of the different Zettai BL seasons. For every season of the show so far, Inukai Atsuhiro has had four other actors perform with him in the opening theme dance number. (All of whom also get a crack at some of those title card moments.) For two seasons, three of the four spots were taken up by Yutaro (Ayato), Shiono Akihisa (Toujou), and Itou Asahi (Kikuchi). The fourth spot was taken up by different actors in the first two seasons. It was the guy who played the attractive dude from the goukon in the first season, and it was Izuka Kenta, who played Kikuchi’s ex Igarashi, in the second. 

This time around, I had hoped that Sekoguchi Ryo would take the fourth spot, because he’s my blorbo and of course I wanted to see him in a retro dance number (boy was that wish ever granted!). But I hadn’t expected Shiono not to appear this time. Maybe there were specific reasons for this, like a scheduling conflict or an injury. It’s not like Shiono appears less in season 3 than he did in the others, so that’s not the reason. It’s hard to say. But in that context, it seems even more significant that they gave a spot to Tominaga Yuya. We don’t know the reasons for this. But it’s possible they featured him more heavily in this way because of his tokusatsu backstory and the inside joke it allowed them to make.–Towel

about “pudding relationship” and “prince and princess”

This part was tricky to translate. As you might have noticed by this point, Mob likes to make puns. In Japanese, pudding is written as “purin” and it is used to refer to pudding as well as custard. Mob goes on to follow with “prince and princess”, which in Japanese are pronounced as “purinsu” and “purinsesu”. In here, there’s wordplay with these similar sounding words and the image of the ToujouAyato couple.–Snow  

about “cuteness overload”

Japanese is a language that uses a lot of onomatopoeia. There’s 4 types, iirc: animal sounds, object sounds (like rain, creaking and the like), things that don’t make noise (smiles, stares, silence, etc), verbs turned onomatopoeia (I unfortunately cannot remember this properly but it was something like that). In this case, Mob says “Kyun ga tomaranai” (which literally means “the kyun can’t be stopped”). “Kyun” is an onomatopoeic word to refer to a “momentary tightening of one's chest caused by powerful feelings,” usually tied to a romantic context but not exclusively. Taking this into account, we thought “cuteness overload” might be the closest expression in English.–Snow

It’s worth noting that Mob is also saying “kyun” right after the “cuteness overload” line. I really thought at first that he was saying “cute,” since it sounds so similar, it would make a lot of sense contextually, and English loan words are so common in Japanese. But no, it was “kyun.” There was no way we could get across the meaning of “kyun” in one or two syllables of English, so we went with “adorbs,” which is just another word for “cute,” but at least it has a cutesy pronunciation that steps it up a notch.–Towel

about bouhan buzzers (16:06)

The translation note shown onscreen during this scene reads: “a bouhan buzzer is a security gadget carried by Japanese schoolchildren.” We did our best to summarize the meaning of this term briefly, so that it would be readable in the amount of time it was possible for us to keep that caption onscreen. But here’s a longer explanation for those who might be curious. 

It took a while for me to understand what these things were. At first I pictured something like a hand buzzer–the kind that people used to use to prank people. But it’s nothing like that. They’re sometimes referred to as “personal security alarms.” They’re little doodads that you can clip onto a backpack or carry in your pocket, and if you activate them (the most common mechanism for which seems to be pulling some kind of tab or string), they make some form of alarm-type sound. I found a video, below, that shows someone activating two different types of buzzers, showing the sound they make. 

These two make the same sort of beeping/chirping noises you’d associate with an alarm protecting a car or the entrance to a building–not really a “buzzing” sound, or anything that resembles the sound Mr. Cheerleader makes in this scene. But maybe there are other types that are more buzz-like, or sound more like the sound our buddy is imitating. 

According to some things I read when I looked these up, children often play with their bouhan buzzers, making it somewhat less likely that people will be on alert when they hear them go off. I don’t think I could have resisted setting off a gadget like this if I’d had one as a child. They seem to be available with all sorts of characters on them and in all sorts of colors and shapes, which is cool but might make them seem even more toy-like. 

From what I’ve seen, these things are most commonly used by children, but adults sometimes use them too. If you look for them for sale online, there are more adult-looking versions available (say, a rose-gold blob instead of something with cute characters on it–though of course, adults might want those too). One listing I saw advertised that they’re useful for kids, women, and the elderly.–Towel

i am currently 21 years old.

i’m a taurus sun, leo moon, and capricorn rising.

i identify as a lesbian who uses she/her pronouns.

while i moonlight as an author, i am also a full-time college student, a bartender, and a combat captain (fancy title for a teaching assistant that the college doesn’t pay because we’re in the stage combat department). most of my day is spent in class, making amazing drinks at work, cleaning weapons, rehearsing fights, working with students, or doing homework during my office hours.

i am also involved with a community theater near my hometown and spend some of my free time performing in shows or volunteering on staff for fight choreography.

no matter how long your stay or how loud your voice sings amongst the cacophony, thank you for stopping by to hear the stories i sing. my ravaged mind created these moments from the darkness of my life, and the only thing i could do was share because i will die if i do not create. knowing others are reading makes me feel whole.

Why do you write Steddie?

Steve has always been a favorite character of mine since season 1; I fell off after binging the first season when it first came out but ‘d check in through mutuals to see what was happening with him. The fandom really brought their A game and after a couple days of falling face first back into it I knew I had to take a turn playing with their dynamic. It really has the best of both worlds with the opposites attract rivals thing but beneath the surface they have all these commonalities about the things that really matter and playing with them to get them to push through those differences is so much fun!

What’s your favorite trope to READ?

I will never not love enemies to lovers or a good slow burn romance. Both at once is just the best. Steddie specific tropes though - I can’t resist a different first meeting: Steve getting adopted by Hellfire or Eddie stalking Scoops, they’re all good.

What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?

I don’t know if this is a trope but my favorite thing to write is just Steve, Robin, and Eddie being teenagers. Just stupid banter and shenanigans. Or maybe a strange PV that you wouldn’t expect not always outside, though I do like that, but things like doing Eddie’s POV for my time loop fic today is a new day to find you or the reddit entries in Am I the Asshole?

What’s your favorite Steddie fic?

Impossible question, there are so many astounding fics in this fandom we’ve been so blessed. I could probably give you a top 5 based on trope alone. But a few favorites:

And Timeless Days of August - thegoodthebadandthenerdy ( @cauldronoflove ) - JJ is my favorite author in every fandom and this fic is gorgeous and majorly under appreciated. It’s more steddie heavy than the rest of the series which is a fantastic exploration of nancy & eddie’s friendship that everyone should read.

took you for a working boy - pukner ( @pukner ) - the gender in this fic is legendary, astounding even, and I absolutely adore the visual way it’s written. The stylistic choices made throughout are inspiring.

change up, high inside - GibbousLunation - had to include at least one Stevie fic. This one has it all: sports, steddie, and most importantly some god tier stobin.

Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?

Honestly, before this fandom I never had much of a taste for omegaverse, but there are some real masterworks written by some amazing authors here and I’ve been tempted to see what gender fuckery I can get up to with secondary genders. That or fake dating.

What is your writing process like?

A hot mess. I usually come up with an idea like a fever dream, usually unhinged dialogue that I backwards engineer into something. Or I get some big sweeping concept that I have to wrangle into being feasible and I pick and prod at it for months alternating between it being the sole focus of my attention or basically abandoning it until it has my interest again.

Do you have any writing quirks?

I write about half of my fics dialogue first with some really basic emotional notation and then I’ll work backwards to establish the rest of the scene, what the characters are doing, how they’re moving, etc. A lot of the time the dialogue or specific character narration points hit the clearest for me, but then I’ll have to work a little harder to see how they’re sitting or moving through the room.

Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?

Most of my fics are one shots or ficlets so they are finished via requirement to have something to post and that is definitely for a reason. The few times I’ve posted a wip that hasn’t been completely or mostly done it’s like the well of inspiration dries up so, better to post on a schedule for me.

Which fic are you most proud of?

Either of my Steddie Bang fics even though your eyes isn’t quite finished yet. They both just feel very intricate to me and any time I can manage to pull off something with a plot and substance I’m proud of myself.

How did you get the idea for future in your hand (signed, sealed, delivered)?

It was actually last year’s Steddie Summer exchange so initial credit for the idea goes to @oh-stars who asked for a childhood penpals fic that roadtrip to see each other and I was immediately enchanted. Epistolary storytelling is a favorite of mine and I couldn’t resist putting my own spin on it.

When writing in the library there lived a hobbit, what was something you didn’t expect?

Oh my god, probably the whole fic. As @oriarts can attest the first draft I attempted was needlessly and horrifically angsty. I scrapped like almost all of it and leaned into the RomCom of it all with some help from @thefreakandthehair who beta’d and it became an entirely different (and much better) fic.

What inspired in the library there lived a hobbit?

Inspired first by this gorgeous artwork by the aforementioned oriarts. Then also a little bit by my own experience as an overworked children’s librarian.

What was your favorite part to write from your eyes can be so cruel (just as i can be)?

So far it’s been the masquerade scene. I won’t include it here cause it’s so long, but it’s my favorite scene from the movie and to pay homage to it was a lot of fun!

How do/did you feel writing i'll play giles, you be spike?

That is the definition of silly goofy fic. Definitely one I had a lot of fun writing because the only thoughts in my brain were stobin banter and bad vampire jokes. As it should be.

What was the most difficult part of writing your eyes can be so cruel (just as i can be)?

So far? Finishing it. This has very much been a labor of love, but it’s also a fic that’s genre wise so far out of my wheelhouse that progress has been slower than I’d like it to be. It has been such a joy when everything is clicking that it makes the hard stuff not so bad.

Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?

It’s not Steddie, at least not fully but I am still so in love with all of my Stobin hivemind fic the bells, the joy (together in darkness), but the gender in this scene is pretty good.

Lying in bed together, the Thundercats night light he’d bought in ‘83 -- claiming it was a gift for a nephew he didn’t have -- casting a gentle glow on the room, he can feel Robin gently prodding at their connection again. The fragile space in their brain he’s started thinking of as the Wall. The thing their squishy human brains had constructed. A safety mechanism to keep them separate enough not to break. A coping mechanism that makes him miss her like a phantom limb even when she is lying inches from him sharing the same breath-warmed air. She doesn’t look him in the eye, they don’t care for eye contact. “Did you ever feel like this before we were us?” A girl, not a girl. A boy, not a boy. Both and nothing. Trying on clothes and terms and personalities that fit a size too small. Pinching your toes and leaving them blistered. Robin feels more at home with lesbian than woman and Steve has always just worn whatever personality people liked most, swapping them out like masks for one that works.

Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?

Well my biggest project right now is to continue finishing your eyes which will happen!!! Other than that nothing concrete on the horizon. I’ve got a drive full of wips to look out for -- mostly stobin and steddie. I’ve also been tossing around the idea of a series of Stevie fics all inspired by Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. So if any of that sounds any good feel free to bully me into actually following through.

Outside of these questions, Is there anything YOU would like to add?

Nothing to add other than how much I have really cherished my time in this fandom. Everyone I have interacted with has been truly so lovely and kind. It has possibly been one of my most enjoyable fandom experiences to date and I truly believe it’s because the fandom gets genuine joy from lifting up others and their hard work. The Obligatory Sticky Post

UNDER CONSTRUCTION! Most links currently go to the BDSMlr edition of this blog. I'm slowly moving them into masterposts of Tumblr links for easier reading. (I was on Tumblr under another name before the Purge of ... I think 2018? and left for a bit, but I missed having people actually talk to me, so here I am again.)

The CGL Catalog is a work of epistolary fiction focused on cnc sexual ageplay scenarios. It consists of product descriptions (and occasional illustrations) from a fictional catalog aimed at caregiver-owners of "forcibly" age-regressed sex slaves. The non-consent is part of the fantasy role-play. Everyone involved is a legal adult who gave informed consent to the scenes suggested.

I also occasionally post vintage catalog scans I've found, because the correlation of "being a well-spanked baby is being loved, right?" and "catalog descriptions are soothing to read" goes very deep in my brain, and frankly, they're often interesting, horrifying, or funny.

I'd like to address some misconceptions I've seen floating around recently.

If a ship is canon people write less fanfics about it

Let's start with the idea that a ship's status as canon has any effect on how much fanfiction it gets. First of all, while the top 100 ships of all time contain a lot of non-canon ships those ships have in more recent years either plummeted down the yearly ship stats list or left it all together as seen in the AO3 ship stats 2023:

Meanwhile newer ships have taken their place several of which are canon. People don't abstain from writing canon pairings because they're canon but for other reasons like not being too interested in their dynamite. There's often next to no canon-complacent fics about the characters in question getting together because that story already exists in the source material. That doesn't mean there's no au's of them getting together as many fic writers find it to be a great exercise as they need to figure out how to keep the elements that attract the characters to each other in differing circumstances. Furthermore, characters getting together are far from the only stories fic writers want to tell.

Secondly, the amount of fics that's tagged with a ship is not the same as the amount that focuses on that ship. A great example of this would be a ship like Lumity where a good amount of the fics they're tagged in don't focus on their relationship. These fics often take place after they get together and make references to them being a couple so people use their ship tag. This means that unlike back when the show had first started airing the fics that doesn't revolve around their relationship still adds to the fics their relationship are tagged in.

Lumity is also a funny case of becoming more popular after it became canon as the fandom for The Owl House itself increased a great amount during the second season. Because of how often their relationship was a secondary element in several fics the amount of fics their relationship was tagged in increased along with the amount of all Owl House fics not just the ones that focused on them.

M/M is often the most used relationship tag in general

This is just nonsense. Every fandom whose source material heavily features the development of a romantic relationship is as good as guaranteed that whatever relationship tag the main couple are tagged is the most prominent. They also often make up around sixty percent of fics within their fandom. In the case of f/f specifically here's a shot list of fandoms on AO3 where f/f is the relationship tag that's used most frequently: Supergirl, The Owl House, She-ra and the princesses of power, Avatar: Legend of Korra, Arcane: League of Legends, RWBY, Wednesday, Amphibia, Steven Universe, and of course Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.

The amount of fics on AO3 are indicative of the size of a fandom

The actual thing that has an effect on how many fic a ship has on AO3 are a combination of how many people within a fandom writes fanfics about them on AO3, how many fics each writer has written and how long they've been people posting fic about them on AO3. The amount of fics writing within a year is all that's shown on the yearly stats which doesn't say anything about how many people are writing fics or how long they are. When the total amount is all someone has to go by there's nothing that explicitly confirms that all the fics weren't written by a hundred people who each wrote a thousand dabbles.

A way to calculate the total amount of fics for a ship and easily see increases and decreases in amount of fics per year throughout the years would be with a script that would look something like this:

This is for Sulemio as there isn't a lot of data I'd have to find and add since people have only been writing fanfics for them for about two years. Since AO3 either doesn't allow someone to search for fics published within a given timeframe or I just don't know how to do that the numbers are fics updated from August 2022-August 2023 and from August 2023-now. This does mean that there are two fics that got counted twice. Oh, well.

If g-witch is so popular shouldn't it have more fics on AO3?

While the number of fics doesn't say anything about the minimum amount of fanfic authors it does say something about the maximum amount. Even if there was one fic per author that would still be a maximum of about a thousand authors. So what gives?

Well, there appears to be two main reasons for this. One is that the Gundam fandom in general is more a discussion and art orientated fandom. We just don't have that many people whose main thing is writing fics.

Another thing to note is that most of the fics on AO3 are in English and the English speaking part of AO3 skews towards a North American and European demographic.

Unlike some other fandoms the Gundam fandom is anything but centralized in the west so it's only maybe a third of the fandom that would even use AO3. The Chinese part of the fandom sure doesn't as the website has been blocked since before g-witch started airing.

You can get a good idea of how popular Sulemio is by only looking at the fan works that are in English

This is a big one. Like I pointed out before only about a third of the fandom makes fan works in English. We're also in a situation where we have two versions of the same ship name. One is writing in the latin alphabet, the other スレミオ is writing in katakana and is also the more commonly used.

Thousands of Sulemio fan art on twitter is tagged exclusively with the one writing in katakana and therefore wouldn't show up if someone used the one writing in the latin alphabet. Likewise, on the Chinese website Bilibili there are videos about Sulemio that have views in the thousands and ten thousands and let's just say that site is a bit of a challenge to navigate if you know little to no Chinese. Even using a translator will sometimes give you such gems as "Too many barrages" and only leave you more confused.

In conclusion the Gundam fandom is huge and the number of fics on AO3 is an unfair way to determine its size.

Also a quick aside to that one person who tried to be dismissive of the amount of fics Supernatural has on AO3 by saying a lot of it was Omega verse. G-witch has 44 fics tagged as Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics and Supernatural has 8105. That might seem like a big difference but percentage wise it's about the same amount. Let's make sure we don't live in a glass house before we start throwing stones, please.
