There are three types of people in that debate: • Those who use the -x form to be inclusive. • Those who avoid the -x form because Latinos find it annoying and mildly offensive. • Those who use the -x form because Latinos find it annoying and mildly offensive, and it's fun to say something mildly offensive with the cover of inclusivity.

This sort of hand-waving shows that "algorithmic bias" is just a stand-in for inserting progressive social norms into machine learning. They are still capturing demographic differences in their model. It does't matter whether it's victimization or arrest, algorithmically it's the exact same thing. They just decide it's not "algorithmic bias" because they agree with the social utility of the model, not because the algorithm is doing anything technically wrong in either case. i.e. if they don't agree with the social utility of the model, they can dismiss it as "algorithmic bias".

That group was charged with "conspiracy to riot" en route to a march/protest. But the charges were not the point. There have been many instances of this particular group following this exact modus operandi for holding marches in various cities across the country and never to riot. Why would they even start a riot in uniform and broad daylight? The charges aren't the point and they're going nowhere. The real punishment is the identities of the activists being revealed by police. The attempt at public anonymity is a defining characteristic of this group, it's an important countermeasure to the doxxing networks and activist NGOs. The message this sends is that you don't get to be anonymous and do public activism or public assembly if you are a dissident. You will just be arrested on bogus charges, have your identities thrown to the media, released, even if the charges are dropped. But the damage is done and the punishment is levied. The prospect of engaging in activism becomes more dangerous because there is nothing to stop this from being repeated. Of course it isn't fair, but if you are engaging in that type of activism you can't ask for fairness because none will be given. The notion that there's an equal application of the law and civil liberties has no credibility. Your "rights" will be destroyed by the state to the applause of the public and you shouldn't expect anything else.

That was a small red-pill I came across long before I became aware of anything. The ADL made the claim of right-wing violence being the most prominent, and I read the paper they released. They even included things like prison fights, where a prisoner had a Swastika tattoo in a mugshot or something. Also, escape attempts where a guard was killed. These were quantified under "right wing violence" in the paper and I couldn't believe it. They use prison gang violence (very selectively) to bolster that claim.
