i love that some parts of fire emblem are like "hey remember that time Frederick put a commissioned propaganda piece of prince Chrom naked around the Shepherds army camp? that's so silly" and others are like "hey remember when Sigurd got incinerated alive in the home of his murdered friend while his wife and the mother of his child watched and had no memory of him" like isn't that so. ._.

They’ve been talking for a very short amount of time, but the feeling Sakura developed was very deep, especially when she mentioned the long permanence at the monastery: she as well spent a lot of time by now, collecting so many memories and befriending so many people from different counties and different places –she was so proud of being able to have met all her friends, she truly treasured their friendship.
But, a gentle smile appeared on her lips as soon as he mentioned her mother; she utterly loved motherly moments and she as well did her best to spend most of her time with her mother, who lately joined the monastery. “I can give some special advise then” she tilted her head in a cute expression, sharing the soft expression on his face, “If she likes vegetables, I can suggest you the vegetable stir-fry - a dish of dried tomatoes, cabbage, chickpeas, and other vegetables, stir-fried with eggs. Definitely very nutritious and filling!” she giggled, thinking about another plate, “Annd, if you want a recipe from my country, I can definitely suggest you the creamy bean soup, which is actually perfect for this period as well!” she lastly nodded, hoping it would be good enough for hi m and actually craving to have some from her castle’s kitchen too.
“Let me know if they are of your taste, so next time we can have a proper dinner all together, if you would love it, of course” she offered a last comforting smile, waving at him and hoping he would spend a wonderful evening.

You know, since I had written and interacted with a considerable amount of Seliph before playing Genealogy (because I'm an idiot), I always feared that I had started writing a disgustingly incorrect Seliph version, especially in regards to how emotionally taxed or open he is. As it turns out after I finally finished Genealogy, that was not the case, Seliph IS a very emotionally open person that is very transparent about how much he's Going Through It for most of Gen 2, my friends are amazing and I can always count on them to give me correct character info, hashtag love them best friends forever
What I didn't expect, though, was the fact that like. Regarding Seliph's very visible emotional issues. No one. In Jugdral. Really. Caaaaaaaares?

one change i would make to each fire emblem game
hello. nobody asked for it, so here it is: what one change (or options, or two small ones in rare cases) i would make to each fire emblem game. remakes get the remade version and not the originals because the remakes are by and large just better.
i have a lot of thoughts.
SHADOW DRAGON: make nyna playable. have her join like after freeing the palace and have a custom class (staff wielding?) that promotes to gain lances, maybe and a horse. this game needs hybrid classes and i want her to wield gradivus
ECHOES: yes its the misogyny. fix act 5, meaning at least one of the following:
don't have berkut fridge his own wife. instead make rinea playable as a saint, probably. she escapes.
don't have celica sapped of all her narrative role + agency in the final moments of the game. also, let beloved zofia or ragnarok kill duma. really kind of insane bullshit that it cant
NEW MYSTERY OF THE EMBLEM: simply remove all gender locks. i.e. class sets 1 and 2 are now both merged after playing hard mode for all units. also to facilitate this:
norne is now a hunter
malice is now a mercenary (like she was originally)
maybe make katarina a dark mage and athena a mercenary too
kris can of course do whatever she wants
GENEALOGY OF THE HOLY WAR: this one's unsalvageable. here are two ideas.
Gay marriage.
Remove all incest, including but not limited to 2nd-gen cousins, Seliph and Julia implied romance, 2nd gen cousins again, any implication that raquesis is fucking her brother, the rest of the 2nd gen cousins, and make clear that claud and sylvia aren't any more closely related than like 6th cousins.
i'll allow a potential exception for arvis since he's the main antagonist of the game but you can't do this and then turn around and say "woahh hes so misunderstood and well meaning" in act two. you simply cant. he brainwashed his sister into being his wife man we cant come back from that 😔
THRACIA 776: give all the women in the game a boost of between 5-25% to their constitution growths, and some variable boosts to their starting Con stats.
BINDING BLADE: man i dunno, there's like six things i could say here but this game is still infinitely less offensive than genealogy. some ideas:
rewrite every piece of dialogue so they have actual emotion and interest, keeping the main story
vary the map win conditions. no more seize forever, this game came after thracia, give it rout, escape, defend, even defeat boss come on
try gay marriage again
FIRE EMBLEM: this game's great! two options:
boost every woman's starting constitution by between 3-8
make a Lyn Mode that lasts the whole game, a la Hector Mode
SACRED STONES: i haven't finished this one! but easy: just make all the changes Restoration Queen does.
PATH OF RADIANCE: i could say remove the limit on supports, and i will, but also this game almost above all other fire emblems desperately needs some actual people of color in it. it has One (1) Black man (which is a depressingly high batting average for this series, this change could be put on any of these games and tbh should be) and is a game nominally about racism, cmon. embarrassing
RADIANT DAWN: my favorite even though i still havent finished it. give the dawn brigade and friends supports. i wanna see vika and fiona lezzing out. or fiona and meg lezzing out. or lyre and kyze lezzing out. or
AWAKENING: again there are two options but i need both of them to happen. call me greedy but im right
unromanceable nowi. by anyone. come on. nah is now tiki's child. supports updated to match
just don't do the stupid fucking anna change. making her a greedy capitalist and a family of identical annas is lame as hell and makes her 500% less interestng. keep her weird!!!
FATES: now i havent played this one, but from what ive heard removing the incest would be a good look. whether its by removing supports or corrin's textual relationship whatevers easiest im not picky
THREE HOUSES:
finish crimson flower. at Least add battle of the eagle and lion, hunting by daybreak, stand strong at shambhala. toss in a few extra cutscenes while we're at it.
actually while we're at it, default black eagles to crimson flower. silver snow should require some level of rhea support, B+ or A or something. and maybe have the other black eagkes side with edelgard and get rerecruited, would be cool.
make azure moon unplayable. not really but it would be funny wouldn't it
ENGAGE: haven't played this one so i'll just say make byleth female
WARRIORS: this game is goofy as hell. fun tho. maybe try rewriting the story to actually have a story and not just excuses for cool battles.
THREE HOPES: very little room for improvement here. remove gender locked classes, and make the ending cutscene a little more clearly conclusive. oh wait
ingrid can be spared in scarlet blaze.
otherwise perfect
AND THAT'S ALL OF THEM

Fire Emblem Heroes-CYL Bonus Quotes + My Ideas for the Ones Who Don't Have Them
Choose Your Legends Winners have bonus quotes when they are on a team you enter a map with and playing with English voices (only the English voices have these quotes actually)! These are popular or funny quotes from their home games or other appearances, like Smash Bros.
CYL1
"The future is *not* written."-Lucina's victory quote in Smash Bros.
"Roy's our boy!"-Roy's crowd chant in Smash Bros.
"I'll be your peerless warrior!"-Lyn's promising words to Mark at the end of FE7 prologue
"You... like Ike?"-Ike's crowd chant in Smash Bros.
CYL2
"Take me with you!"-Veronica... I think she says this once to Bruno, but I can't find where specificailly
"Together, we will always stay."-Ephraim's A Support with Eirika
"Nothing will ever come between us."-Celica to Alm as kids during Echoes' opening movie
"I just gotta be me, y'know?"-Hector's A Support with Lyn
CYL5
"Let's go rescue my brother!"-Eirika to her troops at the end of FE8 chapter 6
"Caeda, what's wrong!?"-Marth to Caeda in FE1 chapter 1
"Please forgive me, Goddess..."-A constant sentiment of Marianne's character, and said verbatim once she slays her first enemy in FE16 chapter 2
"There was something to report, wasn't there?"-A staple of Gatekeeper's dialogue, said verbatim in FE16 chapter 5
CYL6
"I am *no* chatterbox."-Reference to Hapi's nickname for Byleth
"There is more than one truth."-What Sigurd's ghost says to Seliph, after Seliph lands the finishing blow on Arvis and waits next to the beach in FE4 chapter 10
"My... autograph?"-Tiki's C Support with Anna
"You are yourself."-Chrom's consoling words to Robin in FE13 chapter 13
CYL8
"Now... what was so damned important?"-F!Robin's B Support with Chrom
"You must be joking."-Felix during his Goddess Tower event in FE16 chapter 9
"One day... I'll be left alone."-A reference to the correct response to one of her advice box questions during FE16's war phase (this one I'm not 100% on, if anyone has corrections let me know in the replies)
"I'm going to kill you, too."-Alfonse to Letizia during Book 6, Chapter 5, Part 5: I Killed Him
However, the winners of CYL3 (2019), CYL4 (2020), and CYL7 (2023) don't have these bonus quotes. The reasons, if the directors or higher ups of the localization team forgot or they weren't too high priority for the time, are unknown. So I thought I'd take a stab at what I think they'd be for those winners.
CYL3
"I'll have their heads on a platter!"-Camilla at the of FE14 chapter 3
"I'm proud I took your hand."-Eliwood's A support with Hector
"I have finally found my purpose."-Micaiah at the end of FE10 chapter 3-F
"This isn't where things end for us!"-Alm to Celica before returning to face Duma together in Echoes Act 5
CYL4
"You think I'm special?"-Lysithea's A support with Claude
"We'll scale the walls between us!"-Claude during Verdant Wind's final cutscene
"Take your first step!"-Edelgard to the Black Eagles after escaping the Holy Tomb
"I am finally home again..."-Dimitri at the end of Azure Moon chapter 18
CYL7
"Remember where you came from."-Mikoto to Corrin at the end of FE14 Revelation chapter 24
"My only wish was to see you again."-Soren to Ike in their base conversation in FE10 Endgame 5
"A gift of revelation..."-Seiðr to the Summoner, Book 7, Chapter 5, Part 1: Goddess's Descent

"Just keep going slow and steady...sadly that is the only way."
Indeed, the rocking of the ship seemed to have gotten more violent this time around. Whatever furniture that wasn’t bolted down now slid back and forth across the room, the distant sounds of crashing glass and clattering cutlery and other objects adding to the vessel’s occasional hums and croaks. The surge of nausea that has taken over him seemed to subside at the very least, a much needed development since Lambert wasn’ quite thrilled at the idea of having to go through that entire deck feeling dizzy and under the constant threat that his stomach might decide to betray him. Gulping down dry and taking a deep breath, his next steps were careful yet steady.
Lambert rolls 3 AP, moves 1 Left, 2 Down Slip roll= 4, right Seasickness roll= 5, unaffected
Reaching the dining area’s door frame, Lambert made sure to not support himself on the door handle- not wanting to accidentally yank the thing off its hinges if the ship was to jolt to the side and the professor found himself unable to stay on foot. And in a sense, he was correct in his predicament.
“Ah-” The listing was particularly sharp this time around, completely throwing Lambert off his balance and right into the wall to his side. The walland a person. The flash of brown hair came in a second, but by now he was well aware that whatever he had crashed onto was Leif. “Agh- Leif, my apologies! I completely lost my footing. Are you okay?” The only comfort he had was the fact the young warrior was shorter than him, and as a result his armored shoulder wouldn’t connect to him in any way- that could’ve led to quite the nasty injury. The ordeal was, nevertheless, uncomfortable.
Trying to use the narrow passage as a means to keep himself on his feet, Lambert pushed himself off the wall (and off Leif) and leaned against it to avoid falling and rolling over like a ball. It was only then that he was able to take a look into the room before them, blond brows pinching into a worried frown. “That…will be most definitely a nightmare to go through, I shall not lie.”
Staircases. So many of them.
“I suggest we do not try going up the stairs and simply continue towards the lifts…rolling down one of those could easily result in a broken leg.” Not that the way towards the lifts was perfectly safe and nice, but better than rolling down a curved staircase in the middle of a rocking ship.

Queen Tine of Grannvale! With the blood of the crusaders Thrud and Forseti, she aims to support her husband, Seliph, in reforging relations with the neighboring countries of Grannvale and help aide those who continue to suffer in the aftermath of Loptous' influence following the Holy War. While still a little shy at times, she has a newly found confidence in herself as the new queen.
The sword at her side is the Lightning sword; a gift from her dear cousin, Miranda. It represents her family of Friege and how she will forge her own path with pride. While she holds some pride in herself, she will never doubt voices of the winds of reason as they will forever remain with her. The necklace is a gift from her late mother, Tailtiu, and the ring she wears is from Seliph. As for her circlet, it was a gift from her brother, Arthur.

Comparing the First and Second Generation Trios of FE4
One of the themes of Genealogy of the Holy War is the juxtaposition of the actions and behaviors of the second generation characters against that of their parents. The child characters inherit the traits of their parents not just physically but also in terms of behavior. Yet in many ways, they end up doing better in the areas that their parents failed in; for example, Seliph does not rush into a relationship like Sigurd did. In this essay I will discuss this juxtaposition that occurs.
Seliph vs Sigurd
Seliph and his father despite being related are rather different people. We see the contrast between Sigurd and Seliph on several different levels. Sigurd is the bold Holy Knight who never shirks away from the opportunity to correct a perceived wrong; Seliph is a nervous teenager who reluctantly assumes the role of Jugdral’s messiah. Sigurd is prone to immediately rushing to fight to correct an injustice as seen in his intervention in Verdane to rescue Edain; Seliph is reluctant to fight at times as seen when he needed to be coaxed by Lewyn to continue the Thracian campaign. Sigurd shows little reflective thought until he is prompted by external forces to think while Seliph oftentimes questions himself and his leadership as his story presses onwards.
An interesting contrast to look at would be the contrast between Sigurd’s relationship with Deirdre and Seliph’s possible relationships. Sigurd falls madly in love with Deirdre and the two marry very quickly after they first meet. Some people argue that this led to Deirdre’s location and abduction by Manfroy. (1) On the other hand, Seliph’s relationships proceed at a slower pace than Sigurd’s relationship with Deirdre. In his lover conversations with Larcei and Tine, Seliph directs his partner to fight by his side rather than Sigurd directing Deirdre to be behind him, while his conversation with Lana highlights a relationship where Seliph chooses to wait for Lana rather than jumping at anyone new (i.e., Julia). This shows a capability to stop and think that Sigurd did not show with Deirdre.
Seliph has a conversation directly with Sigurd at the end of Chapter 10 of Genealogy. Sigurd teaches Seliph the valuable lesson to learn the sorrow of the common people. This is what Sigurd failed to do: he failed to consider what regular people went through in Agustria and other lands where his actions had a direct impact. In other words, Sigurd was an excellent warrior but a poor ruler. Seliph learns from Sigurd and others that he must be compassionate and considerate to others; by doing this, he avoids repeating the mistakes of his father. In my opinion, this conversation showcases the theme of children learning from their parents’ mistakes more than any other scene in the game.
Leif vs Quan
Quan’s flaw is his inability to be aware of his surroundings. His famous lack of situational awareness contributes to his demise at the Aed Massacre. There, he thought that Thracia would attack Leonster in his absence rather than attack him directly. He somehow did not realize that cavalry is weak in the desert, a fact that any seasoned player of the Fire Emblem series could say. Some would also point to Quan’s involvement in the embargoes placed on Southern Thracia, claiming that this made the Aed Massacre deserved, though I would note that this policy predates Quan. Ethlyn has her shortcomings too; she is prone to throw herself into situations to follow her loved ones as seen when she rushed to Sigurd’s aid at the beginning of Genealogy.
Leif actually has similar shortcomings to his parents. In Thracia 776, he ordered his forces to support Ulster which resulted in the loss of much of his strength and the death of his key advisor in Dryas. This led to the siege of Leonster which Leif and friends barely survive. However, he has the luck of being in good hands - under the mentorship of August and Finn, he is able to learn both from his own mistakes and the mistakes of his father. Perhaps this is best seen later in the Thracia arc of Genealogy where Leif is able to recognize his long-lost sister and set the path for her recruitment. This eventually helps Leif accomplish the dream of unifying the Thracian peninsula under one rule – not just a pro-North rule but a rule that benefits all Thracians. And we see at least that the people like it, given Leif’s eventual title as “Sage-Lord.” (2)
Ares vs Eldigan
Both Eldigan and Ares are stuck in prickly situations for their first real appearances in the plot. Eldigan tries to negotiate with Chagall to prevent him from attacking the Grannvalians only for Chagall to imprison him. Meanwhile, Ares goes on a mission with Javarro to attack Seliph’s army only to realize that Lene was being taken in his absence. Their reactions are what makes the difference. Eldigan gives Chagall chance after chance to improve even though he literally killed his own father to begin the Agustrian arc. Even at the end where he is convinced by Lachesis to break off the attack against Sigurd, Eldigan does not outright break from Chagall. Ares, meanwhile, deserts Javarro when the latter taunts him over Lene. He is willing to even join his mortal enemy in Seliph if it means he can defeat Bramsel and save Lene. Ares’ willingness to change sides allowed him to not only survive but to save Lene whereas Eldigan’s stubborn stance led to his death and the occupation of Agustria. (3)
Perhaps the contrast expresses itself best in Agustria’s state under the care of each one. Agustria is totally occupied by Grannvale after Eldigan’s death. He tried to preserve Chagall since he saw him as the leader of Agustria but his efforts in standing by such a cruel man were in vain; they did nothing to save Agustria from its fate. Ares fixes the mess left behind by his father’s generation by unifying Agustria under his rule after the events of Genealogy. He even enlists the help of Leif in this campaign; he does not try to “go it alone” so to speak as Eldigan did. (4)
Tying in between it all
One could, perhaps, compare other children with their (possible) parents as well. For example, Ced has the interesting twist of outright repeating the mistake of his father Lewyn. He leaves his mother behind to try to search for Lewyn only to be distracted by the strife within Thracia. Nanna mirrors her mother just as Ares mirrors his father, except that she is able to convince Ares to directly make amends with Seliph in a way that Eldigan did not with Sigurd. I did not cover these cases in detail because I wished to limit the scope to Seliph, Leif, and Ares, but they do offer fodder for discussion. (5) So we return to our comparison of our trios. Sigurd, Eldigan, and Quan were not without their good qualities; they all had good hearts and genuinely cared for the people around them as well as for each other. But it turned out that Sigurd was too rash, Eldigan was too rigid, and Quan was too ignorant for the world that they lived in. Seliph, Leif, and Ares were not without their faults either; sometimes their faults caused problems as seen in the siege of Leonster. But each of them still improved on the faults of their parents and this helped them successfully defeat the Empire and become a well-loved leader in their native countries. But perhaps one fact that I cannot omit is how their fathers did assist in their growth. Quan somehow was wise enough to leave Finn behind with Leif and that choice, chance as it was, paved the way for Leif to lead a successful rebellion against the Empire. Ares was able to come around on Seliph because of a letter that Eldigan wrote. (6) And of course, Seliph was directly told by Sigurd to pay more attention to the common people. As much as one can malign the first generation trio, I must acknowledge how they provided for their children.
Conclusion
For me, Genealogy and Thracia fundamentally are not just stories about struggling with an evil mastermind. They showcase many problems in the world which the characters must also pay heed to. With the first part of Genealogy, I find it enthralling that the main characters not only have flaws on display but that their flaws directly lead to their downfall. It is certainly a draw, too, that the characters in the second part of Genealogy and in Thracia are confronted with the flaws of the earlier generations: the inability to pay attention to the needs of the people, the ongoing blood feud between North and South in Thracia, among other things. Of course, the children aren’t perfect either. Leif especially is still prone to making rash decisions even with good advisors around him. But isn’t that what usually happens in real life: each generation makes their own mistakes which must be fixed by later generations.
Footnotes:
I subscribe to the line of thinking that the Loptrians were on the verge of finding Deirdre in any case. Sigurd’s encounter with her at least led to the birth of Seliph.
Thracia 776 Leif ending
Of course as seen in Eldigan between a Rock and a Hard Place, the option of joining Sigurd wasn’t inherently desirable either. But I point out that for Ares, joining Seliph ran the risk of joining the losing side too. Ares had a lot to lose still.
Thracia 776 Nanna ending: “Following their victory at Belhalla, Nanna devoted herself to helping Leif liberate Agustria.”
The original draft of this piece actually included Ced and Nanna among others, but I felt that an in-depth discussion would be distracting to the main point.
I am assuming that the letter which Nanna gave to Ares was not a forgery. Genealogy does not give any direct reasons to doubt the letter’s authenticity.

Two step forward to heal her, as they should. They would obviously perish in an instant without her here, weak and frail as they innately are. Though perhaps she would prefer if they had. Some more so than others. (She points a glare at the traitor and the lecturer. She just got attacked, yet he’s judging her actions as if she’s in the wrong here?? Typical.)
The girl, though — ‘Maria’, as she calls herself — gives her pause. She looks nothing like her. Far too red. Far too human. Yet despite that, all she sees is a strange similarity of that cows ‘daughter’, as he called her.
Embla huffs, stepping away from the girl to instead position herself in front. Drawing comparisons between the two is stupid. Though if there are similarities to be found, then this Maria is likely just as weak as that girl is. She would rather not deal with that. “…Embla. If you’re going to let a little fog get to you, then perhaps you shouldn’t be on the battlefield.”
Embla [10/10 HP] attacks Bishop [4.5/8 HP] with Rolls of Streamers!  (1d20 —> 14) Hit! Bishop [4/8 HP] Bishop [4/8 HP] counters with Fogbound Consecration! (1d20+4 —> 7) Barely hit! Embla [9.5/10]
She finds the streamers in her hand again, frustratingly enough. The two prior still remain lying across the ground, so it isn’t a matter of a magically teleporting streamer. It’s worse. It’s a collection of them.
She raises her arm and throws, casting the streamers away yet again, and yet again creating a repulsively colorful display as they collide with the bishop. Though this time, she’s watching. She sees the aura cast around the streamers, coiling it back up. As she sees as it’s launched directly back at her with the spell, colliding with her forehead.
It doesn’t hurt. What hurts is her ego. And the fact that the more she tries to rip the streamers off the more it unravels, and the more covered in color she becomes. That pain is unbearable.

What I like about alear in gameplay is that they are useful in every map of the game even if they're not doing combat. The positioning based personal ability is just really good (and gets even better if alear has canter). Once you get corrin and/or byleth they're maybe the best support unit in the game based purely on positioning, terrain setting or the rally spectrum/quad dance, and the unique attribute of support bonuses for every character in the game.
Maybe the one lord in the series (other than sigurd/seliph) I would deploy every map even if they weren't forced.

JACKS:

Jack of Diamonds: Forde
Jack of Spades: Inigo
Jack of Hearts: Seliph
Jack of Clubs: Leo
IMAGE SOURCES:
Background: Here
Card backing: Here
Aces: The French Wikipages for Awakening and Fates
Face cards: Heroes and official art [Inigo specifically here]
FUN FACTS NOBODY ASKED FOR:
The face cards did not align this way naturally. All of them had to be zoomed in at least twice, most four, and a few had to be scooted over a little to avoid being cropped in the wrong places or to fix general alignment issues
The game doesn't properly support transparent images, so I had to give each face card a background; really all I did was colour drop the deck's base colour and use that as the background so it would match
Each face card was shrunk to the card's base dimensions [422x562] with the background being twice that size [844x1124] to allow for easier placement without running into a black background because of said transparency issues
I didn't make any changes to the playing background. I just set it and left it as is
The card backing isn't quite aligned in the center, but I have no motivation to try and fix that right now
The backing border was completely unintentional. I chose that deck to build off of simply because of the gold rim around the face-up cards. I didn't realise it would come with a backing border, but hey it works
I chose Fable as the base theme to build off of for two reasons: 1. Aesthetic™, and 2. The background music is the closest to Fire Emblem music the game has [I really wish you could choose your own in-game ambience instead of having to use a preset theme first]
The stars effect has no real impact on the theme, I just like it
I initially wanted Ferdinand to be the Jack of Diamonds, but I didn't want to use his pre-skip design, which is all Heroes had, so Forde was chosen instead
Takumi was briefly considered for Jack of Diamonds and King of Clubs before those roles went to Forde and Eliwood
Ishtar was going to be the Queen of Clubs, but I decided three Genealogy characters was enough, so Michaiah took this spot
Other candidates for Queen of Clubs were Cherche, Celica, Seiros, and Eirika
I went with the Chrom!Inigo edit instead of normal Inigo or Lazward simply because Chrom!Inigo is best Inigo and you cannot change my mind
Alm, Michaiah, and Forde are the only ones who use official art instead of Heroes art. I preferred Alm and Michaiah's official art while Forde isn't even in the game yet [get on that, IS]
I originally wanted to use Edelgard's official post-skip art as I didn't [and still don't] like how her Heroes art sharply cuts off, but it ultimately clashed badly when trying to align it, so I had to use her Legendary alt [her pre-skip and Three Hopes designs were out of the question from the get-go]. I aligned the cutoff with the edge of the card as best I could and I'm surprised it worked
The only set in stone characters from the very beginning were Eltshan, Seliph, and Inigo. The rest I decided as I went on
Tiki was completely spur of the moment. As soon as I remembered she existed, I was like "Oh yeah, adult Tiki would be a perfect Queen of Hearts". I saw her Brave alt and didn't look back
I briefly considered using Eltshan's performance alt, but decided against it
While I knew I wanted Seliph as the Jack of Hearts, I initially wasn't sure which version to use, but I ultimately went with the version I liked the most, which was his Brave alt
Lewyn was a toss-up as to which version I wanted to use, but I went with his festival alt as I liked it more than his normal version
Other characters I considered but with no solid placement were Sigurd, Arvis, Lucina, Ayra, Soleil, Dorothea, Olivia, Deirdre, Say'ri, Elincia, Ryouma, Innes, Tana, Ephraim, Felix, and Constance
Inigo and the aces required some additional editing to remove their white backgrounds before setting up the off-white backgrounds they were supposed to have for this set. I worked on Inigo's for so long trying to edit out lossy pixels around the edges of his art that the editor crashed on me. Hurray for autorecovery

She hears it before she sees it. People around her start to panic, scattering amongst the sound of screams as the enemy descends upon them far faster than her mind can catch up with. The ones that remain around her draw their weapons, and its only after reflex has taken hold to stand her alongside does she realize the situation.
It’s happening again. Why is this happening again? The academy was supposed to be a peaceful place; hadn’t they won peace?
Elise clutches her staff tighter as she tries to force down the unhappy thoughts that bubble up at the sound of pained screaming from both sides. She needs to stay happy. Her healing works better when she’s happy. Eyes dart away, unable to close but unwilling to watch the all-too-familiar violence in front of her, instead taking notice of the few not engaged in combat. Instead… walking away from the battlefield…?
…She freezes.
They’re heading for Garreg Mach. Her family’s in there. They’re all in there.
No. No, no, no no nonono—
She breaks formation before she can stop herself, legs taking control before logic can. They aren’t ready, they’re strong, but they aren’t ready. They’re too far to hear her yell to them, but maybe she can delay the enemy. Just a little bit. Just to give them more time, just so someone can warn them—
Enemy Unit 2 attacks Player Unit 1 Enemy Unit 2 roll: 4d10+11 [Rolls: 9, 8, 5, 4] Result: 37 Player Unit 1 roll: 4d10+6 [Rolls: 9, 8, 8, 6] Result: 37 Difference: 0 Player Unit 1 loses 1HP and Enemy Unit 2 loses 1HP Player Unit 1 — 1.5/4 HP.
She doesn’t know exactly what hit her. All she can feel is a pain shooting through her back as something strikes, sending her flying to the ground. Even worse, sending her staff flying out of her hand.
Hands grip the earth tightly, attempting to claw her way closer to the staff lying right there. But unconsciousness claws at the corners of her vision faster than the princess can combat it, one final, desperate reach for her only way to help proving useless. “Big… no…”
The staff slowly fades from her vision, along with everything else.
this is the part where they kill us @virtuoustyrfing @freliasarrow

One Completely Good Constant
On a lighter topic than yesterday, some gushing about Leif/Nanna and a beautiful piece from DaigoDoggyma
Tumblr media
Leif and Nanna have one of the strongest, deepest bonds of any pair in Thracia. They’ve not only grown up together but did so while living on the run, leaving behind and losing every other relationship they formed and shelter they were accepted in, with a guardian who took care of them physically but was not emotionally available or dealing with his own issues well. They don’t know what it’s like to have a home, be part of a family, to have something stable and permanent and that’s left them both longing for all of it. They have had one completely good constant in their lives though in each other. They’re the one friend the other hasn’t lost and being there through everything allows them to understand, empathize, comfort, and encourage each other better than anyone else ever will. Their mutual support isn’t just a mechanic in Thracia, it’s been the core of their relationship for years and something that only grows deeper once the war starts, Leif confessing to Nanna he wouldn’t have fought half as well if he hadn’t had her keeping him going.
Their introduction in FE4 shows Nanna being the calm voice of reason to Leif’s passionate drive and the value and trust Leif has in her opinion as he immediately chooses to follow her suggestion even though it requires him to abandon the home he just got back and risk losing it once again. Loss isn’t something Leif deals with well and reclaiming Leonster has been one of his biggest dreams and desires for years. But still he doesn’t hesitate to agree to Nanna’s idea because he has just as much faith in her as she does in him. He doesn’t always listen to her though. When Raydrik tries to use Nanna against Leif, Nanna tells Leif to run anyway. She doesn’t care that her life is actively being threatened and Leif running would likely make her situation worse, she cares about Leif staying safe and alive. But Leif feels the opposite, surrendering himself to Raydrik so long as he doesn’t harm Nanna. They both put each other’s life and safety above their own because they’d rather die than lose each other.
As Leif tells Nanna in FE4, Thracia, Cipher, and FEH, he wants her to stay with him, and Nanna promises she will, willing to always be by his side no matter where he may go, even to the very ends of the earth. They want to keep being together, to always be together, because of that deep trust and understanding, the irreplaceable value they have to each other, and all of the other loved ones they’ve lost leaving them feeling alone and longing for a deep, permanent love. Leif expresses this most often through his desire for family, an idealized concept to him and what he believes is the only way he’ll receive a close, open, unconditional love rather than the distant respect and obligatory concern and care his title has always led to. He craves affection and becomes quickly and deeply attached to the kindest people around him; Selfina, Queen Ethnia, Seliph, and of course, Nanna.
Nanna isn’t as open about her desire until towards the end of Thracia. She admits to Eyvel she used to cry to herself out of longing for the dependable love Mareeta received from Eyvel. She does cry when thinking about that kind of deep love as she’s comforting Diarmuid when they meet. She wants to be loved that deeply, unconditionally and openly by someone and that is exactly how Leif loves. He has no issue admitting he’s so happy he could cry when he reunites with Selfina, he wanted to see Eyvel again so badly he dreamt about it every night after saving her, and of course, that he wants to find Lachesis so he can ask her permission to marry Nanna.
One of the biggest issue people seem to have with Leif/Nanna is the sibling comparisons. I don’t think they actually see each other as siblings, they just don’t have a better word for how important the other is to them. They’ve made other friends and what they have with each other is deeper than what they have with them and to children, the only other option for a close relationship is family. This is part of why as mentioned before, Leif sees family as the only way he can be loved so slaps the most age appropriate family member title on whoever he wants that relationship with. He does it with Seliph, calling him like a brother, in their second conversation. But once he’s reminded there’s another way he could have the love he’s longed for now that he’s older, that romantic relationships are an option, he turns to the closest person to him, the person whose support and friendship gave him the strength and encouragement to keep going, who knows and understands him better than anyone else and still stays close with him, the one good constant in his life, and she immediately and happily returns it. Because he’s all of that to her as well. They’re each other’s strength and support, bring out the best and understand the worst, complete and compliment each other. They’re the one completely good constant they’ve always had and always will.
