To be honest, it was really small, could only hold so much. But in the time you have been awake, you made yourself a tiny home off a large tree, gathered your food and found others here and there. It was super awkward because some acted pretty normal, while others dressed quite differently. You noticed first how odd their shoes were, compared to yours at least.

You started to get a reputation between the few people you stumbled upon to having some sort of supplies they might be interested in, in return them trading you with another useful object. A guy named Tsukasa sent his men out to your shack as a regular customer. He offered you safety in his group, wonderfully cooked food and a progressive new world, but you preferred to be a free bird while you could. Maybe one day though, and he wasn’t forgetting that anytime soon.

As you dragged your cart down a dirt pathway, you heard a call from behind, noticing a blonde boy with a spear and a spiky haired boy walking up to you. You recognized the blonde as Ginro, he found you and came to you on and off for some specialty fish. The taller man was new, but no customer un-welcomed. You stopped your cart and brushed off the dirt from your clothes to be presentable, greeting them with a large, friendly smile and wave.

“Hey Ginro, been a while!”’ you chirped.

“See Senku, this is the girl I was talking about! (Y/n) is really good with finding stuff, she might have more of those magnet things!” You let the fact that he didn’t greet you slide, he was still a kid but it wasn’t your place to teach him basic mannerism. Besides, he was selling your business for you.

“You’re looking for magnets?”

Senku looked up from your cart and met your eyes. “You know what magnets are?” he asked, a little shock in his voice. In a moment, you both made the connection that you guys were from the same time period, like how you connected that with Tsukasa. You proudly nodded, your smile soft.

“Yeah, before the world became to stone. I was majoring in geology but never would’ve figured this is how I’d use my knowledge,” you laughed, opening your cart and pulling out some of the small black sparkly rocks. Senku’s face lit up and he stepped closer to observe them.

“Hehe, they’re the real deal. You do know your stuff (Y/n),” he grinned and your cheeks got a hint of pink. He’s known you for all of five minutes and felt comfortable to call you by your first name, not to mention the small compliment. “From what Ginro’s said, you do trades, since money isn’t much of an object here yet.” You nodded to confirm, glancing at Ginro to see he looked incredibly confused at your conversation with Senku. He was one of those guys in the weird shoes, but a good guy. “How much of what can I trade you for all you have?”

You put a hand to your chin in thought. What you could really use right now was a better weapon, all your rock knifes were pretty dull and your hands had scars from bleeding in the process of making them. Ginro’s staff looked pretty sturdy and it’d be easier to fish with, but you weren’t about to take his personal weapon. “Whomever can make a copy of Ginro’s staff, a sturdy one, that’ll be enough. I’ll give you two magnets as a deposit and the rest will come when the staff is handed over.”

“Sounds fair to me, give us a day. I’ll bring it to you tomorrow,” Senku agreed, taking the magnets from you, a smile gracing his lips. The boys left on their way and you smiled shly to yourself. Senku…he sure was a handsome guy. But now’s not the time to get love on the brain (y/n). Time to head home.

---TIME SKIP---

You didn’t really keep track of how many days or weeks or months have gone by, it was kind of nice just living life like that, you lived more in-the-moment. But the best moments have been when Senku comes by for a trade. He regularly stopped at your shack, seeing what you’ve collected, talking with you for a while, and sometimes sharing a meal you cooked too. You both reminisced on when the world was pre-stone age, remembering all the technological advances versus how simplistic it was now. Senku even shared how the Kingdom of Science was about to create cell phones, which left you speechless. It was getting late, and another day of Senku’s company was coming to an end. It left you feeling bittersweet.

“Are you coming with me yet?” he grinned, which looked a little bit evil to be honest.

“What do you mean?...” You hesitantly asked.

“To the Kingdom of Science. I can’t imagine a modern day girl like you would want to continue living like this forever, even if you are a geologist.” You stared into the fire, a bit of somberness in your eyes, that didn’t go unnoticed by Senku.

“You’re not wrong…but..ugh I don’t know,” You sighed. You knew you had feelings for Senku. It would make your world so much brighter to help him and wake up to see him every day instead of once a week. But he was at war with Tsukasa’s army and had some insane ideas he was putting on an old village. Was it really possible?

“I thought you might be a little apprehensive, so I brought insurance,” he chuckled and pulled out what looked like a flashlight from his side pouch. With one flick, he turned it on and directed it towards the darkening woods, proving how powerful it was. You were surprised he already created a flashlight in such a short period of time. “This only took us a day to complete, thankfully you had all the materials we needed. We’ve created a generator already, amped up our cooking skills like ramen and cotton candy and have a professional craftsman who’s mastered the art of glass making. We can have the world back to normal sooner with your help (y/n).”

Your surprised face slowly turned to a smile, followed by laughter which had the scientist questioning you. You waved a hand down, meaning it was okay. “I’m not laughing at that Senku-kun, it’s just surprising after all of this we can have our normal lives one day soon. Plus, I also get a hint of selfishness that somebody misses his laboratory too.~” You teased, poking the tip of his nose. His cheeks tinted pink and he looked away, rubbing lightly where you poked him. He was cute.

“Of course I do,” he softly hummed. “But right now my top priority is saving humanity. And your help would be very useful (y/n).”

“Don’t worry, I’ll follow you Senku-kun!” You smiled, he returned the grin with his own, rubbing your head and fluffing up your hair while you protested.

BONUS HEADCANONS:

While you were still a wandering merchant, Senku would make it a goal to visit you once a week. He was intrigued by you overall, but still felt without company, loneness would consume you.

He liked to see you alone, but he never stopped his other friends from coming. It helped encourage you to follow his Kingdom of Science as well.

After joining the team, you were the supplier for many items. Though you didn’t need any trades now, Senku still gave you high fives or other trinkets you may like. (Seashells, shiny new weapons, take your pick.) Once your relationship with him got more intimate and he was comfortable, he’d give you little kisses on the cheeks or back of your neck in private.

Senku eventually calculated the day you woke up. It added to the investigation how you woke up earlier then and if the revival fluid had played a role.

Senku would ask for your help in the lab most often. Between you and Gen of the modern world, he liked to get second opinions for how things looked or worked, but it was an excuse for him to have more time with you. (And Gen knew it and encouraged it. He was so proud of the leak-haired scientist to be unconsciously falling for you!)

Steven Grant Rogers has never really needed much of a reason to get into a fight. Today, though, he’s in an extra foul mood and he’s just itching for some action.

He promised himself he would tell Bucky how he felt. Promised himself he would do it on Bucky’s birthday, when he had some Dutch courage in his system and Bucky would be in good spirits and hopefully less likely to punch him in the face if he didn’t like what Steve had to say. But Bucky’s birthday came and went, and once again, Steve had failed to get the words out.

Apparently the bullies were right after all: he is a wimp, and a coward to boot.

He’s been stewing over his failure ever since he opened his eyes this morning, getting more and more worked up as the day went on. So when he’s on his way home after a shift at the newspaper and a burly, greasy guy across the street catcalls a dame who’s walking by herself, Steve’s hackles are up even faster than usual.

“Hey, asshole,” Steve calls, his voice ringing out loud and clear in the quiet street. “Didn’t your ma ever teach you any manners?”

He gets the shit kicked out of him, of course – no surprises there. Steve gets in a few good punches too, because he’s feeling amped up and punching assholes has always been his favorite way to let off steam. But at the end of the day, the guy is twice his size and three times as strong, and it’s only because he gets bored with the lack of competition and walks off at some point that Steve escapes the scuffle with ‘just’ a shiner and a few bruised ribs.

Oh, and a mood even fouler than before.

He fumes quietly as he walks the last few blocks home, angrily kicking an empty can out of the way and blowing his tousled bangs out of his eyes. Damn it, he thinks. Damn it all to hell. He’s so busy cursing the heavens that he almost fails to notice the motorcar that turns around the corner, but he manages to jump out of the way just in time. His shoulder bumps against a shop window, and that’s when something colorful catches his eye.

He’s looking at the window of a candy story, or at a jar filled to the brim with candy hearts, to be precise. Sweethearts, they’re called now: little multicolored pieces of candy that each have a word stamped into them.

On a whim, Steve pushes open the door to the shop and steps inside. He’s greeted by the jangle of the doorbell and a wary look from the proprietor, who eyes Steve’s black eye with mistrust but who sells him a small bag of Sweethearts nonetheless. Business is business, after all. Although Steve is well aware that he shouldn’t be spending the money he just made with his extra shift on candy, and this is clearly a stupid plan anyway, he is kind of desperate at this point, and desperate times call for desperate measures.

The hearts burn a hole in his pocket as he makes his way back to the apartment. It’s like they’re taunting him, whispering to him that he’s not gonna do it, he’s too much of a chicken to tell Bucky how he feels. Too gutless to tell him that he’s loved him since the day they met, even if he only later realized he was in love with him. It took Steve a while to work up to the decision that he should tell Bucky about that inconvenient but undeniable truth, which has fueled and consumed him in equal measure ever since it presented itself.

It took him six years, to be precise.

Six years in which Steve pretended he loved Bucky like one friend loves another, pretended he wasn’t looking at Bucky’s mouth and wondering what it would feel like against his own. Six years in which Steve called Bucky a jerk instead of all the other, much tenderer things that were always on the tip of his tongue.

But now, with war raging in Europe and people risking their lives for their own and other’s freedom, Steve could no longer stomach the idea that he wasn’t even brave enough to tell his best friend that he loved him. And in his heart of hearts, Steve knows it doesn’t even matter. He knows he’ll love Bucky until they’re both old and grey, regardless of whether Bucky feels the same way in return.

But maybe, just maybe there is a chance that he does. And maybe today might be the day that Steve’s going to find out.

As he trudges up the stairs and opens the door to their apartment, Steve’s hopes of getting to freshen up a little to hide the worst of the damage before Bucky gets home are dashed when he hears someone whistling the latest Glenn Miller tune from inside.

Shit. Steve is usually home before Bucky, but then he usually doesn’t get into fights on his way home (well, not every day, at least). He sighs, squaring himself up for the reprimand Bucky is no doubt going to give him when he notices the state Steve is in.

As soon as he steps through the door, Bucky turns around from where he’s standing by the sink, holding a glass of milk. He’s in his work pants still, but he’s taken off his jacket, leaving him in just his undershirt and suspenders. Unthinkingly, Steve’s eyes linger on the curve of Bucky’s biceps, taking in the way the shirt is sticking to his stomach with sweat, even though it’s only March. When he finally lifts his gaze to Bucky’s face, though, Steve feels his stomach drop. Bucky’s brow is furrowed, his lips turned down into an unhappy frown.

“For pity’s sake, Steve…” Bucky sighs, sounding infinitely weary. “You really can’t go one week without gettin’ into a fight? What was it this time, somebody breathe in your direction?”

Steve bristles at the implication that it must have been him who started it, even though it had in fact – depending on how you looked at it – been him who started it.

“This asshole was harassing a dame all on her own,” Steve huffs. “What was I supposed to have done, just keep walking?”

“Was he attacking her?”

“No,” Steve replies, frowning. “He catcalled her, but–”

“Steve.” Bucky rolls his eyes, running a hand through his chestnut hair, wavy again now that the cream he put in it this morning has evaporated with a day’s hard work at the docks. “We’ve been over this. There’s always going to be assholes out there, you know that. You can’t fight ‘em all, pal”

“Yes, I can,” Steve counters, unconsciously pushing out his chin a little. “And I will.”

Bucky pinches the bridge of his nose, letting out a deep sigh. “I swear, Steve, sometimes I think you got a death wish. What am I gonna do with your stubborn ass?”

A slightly manic giggle escapes Steve at that, because he’s got one or two idea ideas for what Bucky could to with his ass. The sound must rub Bucky the wrong way, however, because he raises his eyebrows, eyes going comically wide.

“Oh, you think this is funny, do you?” he asks, then draws himself up to his full height before proceeding to lecture Steve on what are and what aren’t valid reasons to start a fight.

Having heard this spiel countless times before, Steve mulishly tunes Bucky out and instead starts digging around in the pocket of his ragged coat for the little paper bag.

His heart starts beating faster as he pulls it out and opens it, but he ignores it, just as he ignores the little voice in the back of his head screeching at him to abort, abort, abort. He’s not getting cold feet this time – it’s now or never.

“Are you even listening to me?” Bucky huffs impatiently, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

Steve doesn’t bother replying because he figures it’s pretty clear he isn’t listening, and instead peers inside the bag, trying to find the one he needs.

Ah. There.

Finally looking back up at Bucky, Steve holds out his hand. There, in his palm, lies a pink little heart.

Bucky’s eyes drop to Steve’s outstretched hand. “What’s this?”

Instead of answering, Steve just keeps looking at him, silently willing Bucky to just get the hint already and take the piece of candy.

Bucky peers down at Steve’s hand, uncomprehending. Then, suddenly, he goes still. He blinks a few times, fast, mouth opening and closing as if he’s going to say something. He doesn’t, but he does reach out slowly, picking up the pink heart from Steve’s palm and then staring at it some more from close up.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, Bucky lift his head again, his eyes findings Steve’s. “Steve? What’s this?”

And because he can’t help himself and also he’s about to keel over just from sheer nerves, Steve snaps, “Sorry, I forgot you couldn’t read.”

When Bucky doesn’t respond, just keeps standing there with his mouth hanging open like a fish on land, Steve slowly starts to feel very stupid, and very, very vulnerable. He’s unable to stop the heat rising up in his cheeks, a blush spreading like a wildfire from his face to the tips of his ears and down his chest.

And that, seeing Steve shrinking in on himself, that must be what makes Bucky finally understand. Because from one moment to the next, Bucky’s face transforms, his expression melting into something soft and so mushy it makes Steve’s heart ache.

“Stevie…” Bucky breathes, not taking his eyes off Steve. “This says –”  He stops, licking his lips. “This says ‘I love you’.”

Steve nods, slowly, and asks, “Is that okay?”

Because apparently he is still a dumbass, even if he now isn’t quite so much of a coward anymore.

Bucky’s face melts a little further. Steve would’ve thought he looked stupid, if he wasn’t so gone on him. “Are you- Do you mean it?” His voice is barely more than a whisper at this point, as if he’s afraid to break whatever this thing is that’s slowly taking shape between them.

Steve inhales deeply to steady his nerves, his knees feeling worryingly shaky all of a sudden. “I do, Buck.”

Bucky makes a little sound then, something between a sigh and a laugh; incredulous, like he can’t quite believe what he’s hearing. Bolstered by Bucky’s reaction, Steve gets an idea and starts rooting around in the bag again for another heart.

When he finds the one he needs, a yellow one this time, he holds it out to Bucky, not breaking eye contact until Bucky’s gaze dips down to the offering. This time when he sees it, he barks out a laugh, unrestrained and joyous.

Kiss me, the heart says.

Steve watches Bucky pop both the hearts in his mouth, before he bridges the distance between them in two long strides. He takes Steve’s face between his large hands, his touch surprisingly gentle, and leans down, softly pressing his lips to Steve’s.

For a moment, Steve lets himself be kissed – until he recovers from the shock, and then he gives back as good as he gets. He stands up on his tip toes and wraps his arms around Bucky’s neck, pulling him closer, always closer.

By the end of the kiss, Steve has a heart, too.

Bucky tips back his head just a little, looking down at him through his lashes, his lovely slate-blue eyes a few shades darker than they were before. Steve is breathless, both from the kiss and from Bucky’s beauty, which he’s finally able to appreciate openly now, for the first time since he realized the way his heart tripped at the sight of it meant love.

Leaning in again, Bucky gently brushes his lips over Steve’s as he whispers, “I’m sweet on you too, pal.”

I have a complicated relationship with pumpkin spice. It has, without question, over the last 5-10 years gotten a tad overwhelming. It’s hard to go anywhere in North America these days from late August to January without being reminded of pumpkin spice. I walked into Whole Foods the other day and they were selling pumpkin spice potato chips…WHAT?! Quite honestly, pumpkin spice is becoming a hard thing to love.

On the other hand, I also have to admit that I kind of, sort of, really, really love the flavor. I’ve always been a cinnamon girl (I used to add cinnamon to my trisket crackers as a kid – early adopter?!) and pumpkin spice is really just an amped up version of cinnamon. Let’s be real though, a lot of the pumpkin spice foods out there aren’t particularly nutritious. Many don’t contain any pumpkin (I’m looking at you Pumpkin Spice Latte!) or use synthetic flavors without any spices. Not really my thing. These Pumpkin Spice Blondies on the other hand? We’ve got pumpkin. We’ve got pumpkin spice spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, cloves). We’ve got vegan. We’ve got DELICIOUS! You’ll just have to try them for yourselves to see why.

What Are Blondies?

Blondies = blonde brownies. In my opinion, blondies are meant to have a similar texture to brownies except without the cocoa powder or chocolate added. I like a fudgier brownie so these pumpkin spice blondies are more on the fudgy side, BUT if you like more of a crispy almost cookie texture, omit the baking powder and you’ll certainly achieve that.

Pumpkin is a great addition to blondies not only because it’s an awesome source of nutrition, but also because it helps you achieve that fudgy blondie texture without having to add a ton of oil. In general, you can add pumpkin to your baked goods in recipes that call for a lot of oil to help decrease that amount.

Can You Use Canned Pumpkin?

Absolutely! This is a perfect recipe for using up that canned pumpkin. Just be sure to grab pumpkin puree and not a can of pumpkin pie filling. You can also use fresh pumpkin or substitute with a different winter squash. All will work in this pumpkin spice blondies recipe.

Can These Pumpkin Spice Blondies Be Made Gluten-Free?

Yes! You can absolutely sub gluten-free flour for regular flour. I have tested the recipe both ways. You may need to decrease the amount of almond milk (or non-dairy) milk slightly as gluten-free flours tend to be less absorbent, but this depends on your flour blend. Start with 1/2 cup and add 1 tbsp at a time if batter needs more in order to come together. Note: batter should be very thick. This is important as these pumpkin spice blondies are vegan and don’t have an egg holding them together!

Are These Pumpkin Spice Blondies Healthy?

Yes! Pumpkin is a great addition to all baked goods. I’ve also used coconut palm sugar for a less refined sugar and reduced it to 1/2 a cup. In place of the typical butter you find in blondies, I’ve subbed coconut oil which adds a nice natural hint of sweetness.

Feel free to use whatever non-dairy milk you enjoy. I think coconut milk would taste delicious in this vegan blondies recipe. You can also sub whole wheat flour but you may need to reduce the amount slightly as it tends to be more absorbent. For non-dairy chocolate chips I like these ones but feel free to change it up and add in a 1/2 cup of your favorite add-ins.

Don’t forget that the batter should be thick! If all the flour is not mixing in, add more non-dairy milk but it should remain thick and require a bit of elbow grease to get it to spread in the pan. Be sure to even out the top before baking. Most importantly: Enjoy! These pumpkin spice blondies truly taste like the best of fall and pair perfectly with a hot mug of tea or coffee while curled up with a blanket and a good book. Or in my case, a computer since I just couldn’t help but share this recipe with you right now!

Ingredients

2 cups regular white flour (can sub gluten-free flour blend, if desired)*

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp sea salt

1 tsp pumpkin spice (get my DIY version here!)

1/2 cup coconut palm sugar (or brown sugar)

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk*

3/4 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips

*If using gluten-free flour you may need to reduce the amount of almond milk to 1/2 cup

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease a 9 x 9 inch baking pan with coconut oil or non-stick spray.

In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, sea salt and pumpkin spice.

Add in coconut palm sugar.

In a separate bowl combine coconut oil, almond milk, pumpkin puree and vanilla extract.

Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until well-combined.

Stir in chocolate chips. Batter will be thick.

Add batter to baking pan and spread out using a spatula, making sure top is even.

Bake for 20-25 mins.

Let cool for at least 20 minutes before cutting into 12 blondies and removing from pan to cool completely.

Will keep in an airtight container on counter for 2-3 days or freeze for longer.

6 Ways Buyer Intent Data Fosters Sales & Marketing Alignment

It’s widely accepted that the internet has enabled changes in buyer behaviors which have disrupted traditional marketing and sales approaches.  

The exploding universe of sales and MarTech software tools has enabled methodologies like inbound marketing.

It’s allowed companies to deliver better experiences to prospects and buyers, but it’s also often created internal friction.

The Challenge of Sales & Marketing Alignment

The roles of PR, marketing, sales, and service that used to be so clearly defined are now often blurred by non-linear buying journeys and overlapping interactions.

While that creates exciting opportunities to innovate, it can also lead to frustration.

Smart companies have experimented with approaches to align marketing and sales personnel, energy, and goals so that each group can leverage its unique strengths as it focuses on  collectively driving revenue growth.

However, simply recognizing it as a challenge doesn’t make it easier to solve.

Closing sales and generating leads are fundamentally different.

So, when a technology that is powerful by itself, simultaneously fosters alignment between marketing and sales teams, it’s especially exciting -- That’s what buyer intent data can do.

While buyer intent data is a relatively new tool available to revenue growth teams, awareness of it is rapidly increasing.

What is Buyer Intent Data?

Long before prospects visit your site and submit a form, start a chat, or put items in their cart, they begin researching.

The hints and clues they leave behind by taking these actions across the internet are what we call buyer intent data.

How long they research depends on a number of factors ranging from individual to industry, but the journey from awareness, through consideration, to decision can be hours, days, weeks, months or even years.

Sometimes, if your content is superb and SEO is great, you’ll get lucky and identify early signals that a prospect is active (a.k.a. They’ve taken action on your site indicating they likely have intent to buy.)

Often though, they’ll research anonymously or not even visit your site.

In fact, statistically, with search rankings in the top 3 and strong organic SEO click-through rates (CTR) of 30%, less than 1/3 of prospects will visit your site.

Then, even a strong 5% visit-to-lead conversion rate on-site means only 1.5% of people conducting a search will become our leads.

So, marketers and salespeople alike have a huge opportunity if they can identify some of the other 98.5%.

That’s what buyer intent data does.

How Does Buyer Intent Data Work?

Every day, all around the internet, millions of people search millions of topics and engage with content on sites that don’t have your tracking code!

Complex buyer intent data algorithms like those analyzed by SalesFrackingData can monitor those engagements to observe contacts taking actions and report the ones that match your ideal buyer profile.

How does that work?

Simple. You provide contextual information including:

Ideal prospect job titles, company size, and geography

Customer account names and URLs

Target account names and URLs

Competitor names and URLs

Influencer and key industry event URLs and/or social handles

Key terms (simple and compound terms of product, service, problems and outcomes)

Imagine, a list of the actual people taking actual action indicating that they’re researching what you sell!

It’s easy to see why both marketing and sales would be excited, and that’s why it’s such a great tool for fostering alignment and collaboration.

Building Alignment by Encouraging Collaboration

It seems there’s almost always friction between marketing and sales, but boil down all the chitter chatter and you find groups committed to growth with similar goals and pretty simple wants.

Sales wants more sales qualified leads that are ready to talk to them. They all say if they can just get a seat at the table, they win more than they lose!

Marketing wants to find them early and nurture them so they’re ready for sales. In a world where buyers lurk in the shadows of the internet, that takes skill!

Anything that helps either, boosts results. And something that helps both, well, that’s pretty cool.

Buyer intent data provides a common tool over which marketing and sales can collaborate directly (interpreting and planning an approach for types of contacts.)

There are six common examples of collaborative use cases for buyer intent data.

Each is an area of overlapping interest to marketing and sales which means success in them drives the company forward and stimulates collaboration.

Let’s unpack these individually.

1. Discovering Additional, Active, Unknown Sales Leads

If great inbound marketing statistically only converts <2% of active prospects, then putting others on marketing’s radar let’s them engage and nurture.

From gentle steps like Facebook ads to a custom audience, through active Business Development Rep (BDR) outreach and customized sequences, there are a range of approaches through which marketing works alongside sales to amp up the qualified lead generation. That leads to smiles all around!

Estimates vary widely but the consensus is that it’s five times as expensive to add a new customer as to retain an existing one.

Sales people have long had target account strategies, and account-based marketing (ABM) has introduced an analog for the marketing team, but these aren’t yet as tightly integrated as they could be.

Included with the contacts who have taken action are often related contacts who are likely influencers and participants in any project.

This enhances the ABM effort with additional opportunities to engage and connect, and it helps build the roadmap for the target account sales approach.

It can also reveal new target accounts which hadn’t been on the radar of the sales team previously.

4. Managing Complex Buying Teams -- (a.k.a. Tracking the 6.8 Buyers)

One of the biggest challenges for sales teams is managing buying teams or multiple decision makers.

CEB’s well-known statistic illustrates the problem.

With a deal champion, consensus decisions, and others who are content to remain anonymous, it’s hard to sell complex deals.

Buyer intent data, fortunately, can empower marketing to provide their sales colleagues with in-depth insights into who else in a company is actively participating in the research, and even what actions they’re taking, and where.

This deal “intelligence” can be critical to sales people navigating the complexity of consensus team buying.

5. Getting Involved Early Enough to Establish Value

You know the frustration of wasting time on deals that you couldn’t quite walk away from, but also sensed were already done.

That’s the unfortunate situation that arises when you come late to a deal - when someone in their decision phases wanders onto your site to ask for a quote, but their minds basically already made.

Is it a lead? Sure. Sales qualified? Probably. Winnable? Likely not.

The solution is to get involved early, and while sales might grumble about leads that aren’t sales ready, it’s a huge win when marketing can identify them long before they’re comparing vendors to establish authority and shape the analysis.

6. Tracking Trends

You almost certainly spend time looking at your own content metrics to figure out what’s working, and what’s not.

What would you do with indications of engagement by trigger (search term, competitor, influencer, etc) from across the web?

Hint: You’d take that info and create content that would scratch that itch that the internet seemed to have!

Plus, you’d see trends by stage in buying journey to help you provide key pieces of sales enablement content too.

The days of marketing generating “leads” from bingo decks and throwing them over the silo wall to sales are done.

Today’s buying behaviors require tight integration of the two disciplines to deliver great buyer experiences.

But silos do still exist - and digital marketing perpetuates them since the website, social media, and email are often their domain.

Buyer intent data bridges the silos.

Not only does it drive key metrics for both groups, but it creates a framework for direct collaboration.

It Sounds Perfect -- What’s Not to Like?

Buyer intent data itself is incredibly powerful, and as we’ve seen, it creates new opportunities for collaboration with marketing and sales.

There are, however, some myths and legitimate challenges to be aware of.

Privacy

First, many ask about privacy.

Particularly after the Facebook blowup, and considering some ABM providers refuse to provide contact details, it’s a reasonable question with a simple answer.

All buyer intent data is from publicly available sources - but devilishly difficult to locate and aggregate.

None of it is collected in any way that assures and then violates privacy.

Marketing Implications

Second, marketing sometimes worries this could eventually replace the lead generation infrastructure that they’ve so diligently built.

That’s understandable at first glance, but unwarranted.

Remember, this only provides the indication that someone is interested.

All the marketing messaging, sales enablement content, BDR scripts/templates and tools, offers, and other elements still have to be created and refined.

You’ll be needed as much as ever!

Sales Process Implications

Third, sales might assume their purchase orders have been written and are just waiting to get picked up, but that’s not entirely true.

They still have to follow their sales process, but now they’re focused on deals that are theirs to win - leads that are in the market, looking for similar solutions, interacting with competitors, etc.

Order takers wish it was easy. Professional sales people treasure these insights.

Segmenting Leads & Journeys

Fourth, there will often be a lot of leads and some noise as well, and they will be in all phases of the buying journey.

That means there’s some early work to refine the algorithm to establish the right search parameters to filter signal from noise.

Then there’s ongoing work to segment the leads so that each contact has the right interaction - from custom audience Facebook ads to direct contact from a sales rep.

This is the classic “good problem to have” but for marketing teams that are already too busy, it’s important to plan for.

Data Quality

Fifth, not all buyer intent data is the same.

In fact, some products which identify themselves as buyer intent data actually just capture IP-based activity (anonymous “surges” from target account IP addresses) and then associates those hypothetically with contact details from ideal buyers.

In other words, if contacting the person behind IMPACT’s blog was your goal, most providers that claim to provide buyer intent data would watch for traffic from IMPACT’s office and then report to you that the traffic might well have been from Ramona, their Content Marketing Manager.

Of course, it might also have been any of her 50 colleagues who weren’t great prospects for you,so, be sure to find data which provides actual contact details of the person taking the action - or your efforts to build alignment will likely fizzle.

Driving Growth & Having Fun

No matter how many espressos we drink or how passionate we may be about the practice of digital marketing, we face two sometimes elusive priorities.

As a revenue growth team, we have to hit our key metric - growth. That’s a challenge and every tool is an important option to consider.
