As promised, The Screwloose! Made in Kerbal Space Program with a whole lot of mods and some tasteful file editing. Theres also some screenshots of the version I'm editing in blender, that's the more canon one, but I'm still learning (and there's still more details to add) so KSP was used for initial construction and (way too many) beauty shots.
This ship was originally commissioned by the company that our OC's work for, Ribeiro Courier Services, as an experiment into the viability of aerobraking as a method of saving fuel while not increasing shipment times. It is converted from an medium-volume hauler and upon the completion of the modifications, it was officially recommissioned as the E.A.C. Fênix but that name failed to catch on with the crew who refer to it exclusively as the Screwloose. Depending on who you ask and when, this is either because it needs constant maintenance, or because R.C.S. had a screw-loose when coming up with the plan of it slowing down by slamming into the atmosphere of it's destination. Some key features of the ship are: - The heat-shield, this is what protects the ship and it's cargo during entry. It also has cutouts for the engines when they are active, and covers to protect them when they aren't - Slide mechanism, The spine (cargo rack, docking ports, habitation) of the ship and the drive section (heat-shield, engines, radiators, fuel tanks, solar panels, reaction control system) are attached through a slide plate, this makes it so that, if the cargo load on the rack is uneven, the spine can shift to maintain stability, it is crucial for safe aerobraking maneuvers. In the Blender screenshots you can see the huge actuators used to position the spine. - RCS rails, this allows the reaction control thrusters to move up and down the length of the ship, allowing it to better balance out torque with varying cargo loads. This was not originally part of the modifications R.C.S. had planed for the ship, but instead stipulated by a contract they took with an aerospace company to help fund the project.

A way to recover silver from dead solar panels with 98% efficiency
A multi-institutional team of chemists, metallurgists and engineers has developed a highly efficient way to retrieve silver from dead solar panels. Their paper is published in Environmental Technology & Innovation. As climate change progresses, scientists seek to replace fossil fuels with renewable resources, including solar power. But the development of these technologies has led to new environmental problems, such as what to do with solar panels after their useful life expires. Prior research has shown that some solar panel components are relatively easy to recycle, including the iron, steel and aluminum used to make brackets, racks and other support systems. Unfortunately, other components are more challenging to recover, such as the silver used in electrical circuits—it must be separated from the circuitry and the copper that is almost always present. Thus, these materials are seldom recycled. In this new study, a team in Italy developed a relatively inexpensive way to recover the silver used in solar panels.

“FUTURE SPACE STATION CONCEPT---In the summer of 1982 NASA sponsored industry studies to examine mission requirements for a possible U.S. space station. The studies analyzed future missions in space to determine what attributes a space station would have to have to fulfill these missions. While the studies focused on mission requirements and appropriate space station 'architecture,' several renderings were produced to enable a possible station configuration to be envisioned. This picture, an artist’s concept, portrays one possible space station, as conceived by Rockwell International’s North American Space Operations Division.

The picture shows a mature space station configuration, which includes two solar panels to provide power; several modules for command, habitation and experimental activity; a Shuttle-sized unpressurized rack for storage of payloads; advanced remote manipulator systems for the assembly of large structures and servicing/storage of satellites and instruments; and a locking/utility hub that might serve in addition as a 'safe haven' in case of emergency.

Attached to the station in this picture is a Shuttle orbiter. The Space Shuttle would periodically visit the space station, delivering new crews, supplies, and payloads as required.
Also shown in this picture is an Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV) delivering an advanced communications satellite to geosynchronous orbit. Such a vehicle could be space-based at the station, providing a significant gain in economy and capability.”

Oolong: How does your OC decorate their space?
My decoration is more in the structure itself than filling space. I really like ivory-colored wall paint and stained wood trim, wood or stone floors, and wood cabinets with stone countertops. Something that's light but still warm and inviting. And it goes well with houseplants.
Goodness, I would have so many knick knacks and posters and stuff if Bad would let me! I can understand why he doesn't though, I could SO easily go overboard.
Uh. Lots of blue, lots of 80s stuff. Like tech stuff I mean, the actually cool stuff. What people think the 80s looked like these days is not what the 80s actually looked like in the 80s. Think lots of wood paneling and brown floral patterns. Ick. Also some of my favorite movie posters! And I've got a model solar system hanging over my bed! Made it myself when I was in high school!

Super Earth Part 4: Maintenance Hall
Pairing: Roman Reigns X Reader
Warnings: None
“Ok Mission Commander. How does being in my lab help?” Roman challenged.
“We need to pretend we are working. Show me those plants over there.” I pointed to a rack of plants. He complied, picking up some of the sprouts and pretending to show them to me. I jotted some notes down on my pad. “Do you know what it takes to be a mission commander?”
He reached for another plant, holding it for me to smell. It really did smell amazing; a spicy smell. We continued our pantomime. “I assume a lot.” He smiled.
“Among the things we have to know is the ship… the whole ship…. Every system, how it works, how to repair it. From the day we sent our first colonists to Super Earth, I’ve been training for this day. I learned everything from the cooling system to the solar sails….. I know every inch of this ship.”
His eyebrow shot up in surprise. “Ok.”
“For instance, did you know there’s a maintenance hallway behind your lab?” He smiled wide as he began to understand my plan. “It runs behind 3 labs, the mess hall and eventually…..”
His smile grew wider, “the crew quarters.”
I smiled conspiratorially at him. “In fact, it runs right past my quarters. There’s a hidden door to my quarters that only one other person on the shop knows about.”
“Not even the engineers? The maintenance staff?” He was shocked.
I moved us to another rack of plants. This time of night, only a couple of the scientists were working, and although the front of the labs faced each other, nobody was watching us…. Which was perfect. “They know the hall is there, but Chief Engineer Cassidy is the only one on this ship who knows about that door. It’s camouflaged so nobody sees it.”
“Why?” he asked.
“Think of it like a fire exit. If something happens and the captain needs an alternate exit, it’s there.”
He smiled and leaned against a shelf, “and if we encounter hostile aliens?” Humans had not found proof of life outside of our planet, but the secret exit, which also led to a secondary cockpit, was designed specifically with hostile aliens in mind. I nodded.
“It’s small and cramped, but it’s there.” I said.
He shook his head laughing. “You’ve got it all figured out.”
Looking around at the other labs, nobody was even in sight, much less looking at us. “Come on.” I said, going to the door and opening it. We quickly slipped into the maintenance hall and made our way to the crew quarters. “Here.” I stopped us after a couple of minutes.
Roman looked at the wall, lined with touch screen computers and it was obvious he couldn’t see the door. “Here?”
“Mmmhmm” I hummed as I turned on a touch-screen. Finding the button labeled “Mess hall secondary access.” A second later, the panel in front of us popped open a little bit. Running my fingers along the gap, I found the secret button and pressed it to completely unlock the door.
“Nice!” Roman said as we slipped inside my personal office. Closing the door behind us, Roman leaned against the door, staring at me while he took a deep breath. “Alone at last. I’ve been thinking about this since I woke up alone. I thought I’d never see you again.”
“Yet, here we are.” I tried to lean against a desk as casually as he was leaning against the door.
“Here we are.” We just stood staring at each other for a minute; soaking in the moment, the situation. A moment later, Roman strode dominantly to me, slipped his arm around my waist and kissed me. Last night, he’d been sweet and kind and romantic. This kiss was none of those things. This kiss was passion, fire, wild, desperate. He slipped his tongue in my mouth as he slipped his hand through my hair to the nape of my neck, pulling me in closer as if he could devour me. He tasted so good, and I lost all control. I melted into him, hands roaming. I couldn’t control my urges any more than I could control the moans that slipped out of my throat unbidden.
Pulling back a bit, Roman broke the kiss, and we were both breathless. He didn’t say a word. He held my hand and started leading me out of the office and into my bedroom.

I woke to the gentle chimes of the computer waking me up. I nestled deeper into Roman’s chest. “Good morning Captain.” The female voice of the ship said. “How did you sleep?”
“I slept well computer. How are you?”
“All ship’s systems are fully operational, but there’s a slight oil leak in Jefferies tube 5. Who should I assign to that task?”
I thought for a moment, and Roman kissed my forehead, running his hand up and down my back soothingly. “Ensign Tilly.”
The computer paused for a second before replying, “Ensign Tilly has accepted the assignment.”
“Thank you computer. How are my crew and passengers?”
“The crew is healthy. We have 3 passengers experiencing nausea this morning, but Dr. Thorp has already treated them. 3 people worked out last night. You, Dr. Reigns and Dr. Guntar. Did you have a good workout?” Roman and I laughed. The computer had registered our sex as a workout.
“I did. Thank you. May I hear my schedule for this morning, please?”
“Certainly,” the robotic voice said. “From 0800 to 0900 am, you are scheduled to visit the scientists and see if they’ve settled in. From 0900 to noon you are scheduled to fly the ship. Would you like me to continue with your afternoon schedule?”
“No thank you computer. What time is it now?” I kissed Roman softly.
“It is 06:03 Captain.” The ship answered.
“Computer, set an alarm for 7:30 am.”
“Certainly Captain.”
Roman smiled at me. “We’ve got an hour and a half?” His wicked smirk proving he was thinking the same thing as me. “Come here.” He pulled me close.

“Good morning Captain,” I was walking to the mess when I passed the Ensign. She was new to my crew, and it took a second to remember her name.
“Good morning Ensign Deville.” The ensign had a spotless record and was well liked by everyone who worked with her, but it was her last captain’s glowing recommendation that had swayed me to have her on this assignment.
“Captain,” a voice behind me called. It was Commander Orange Cassidy, the chief engineer. “Do you have a minute?” Cassidy’s laid-back attitude was not every captain’s first choice, but I’d worked with him so much, I found his nonchalance to be refreshing.
“Commander” I said as he caught up to me. “I assigned Ensign Tilly to an oil leak this morning.”
He waved it off, “Yeah, that’s who I would have sent too.”
Orange, (I knew him well enough to be able to call him by his nickname) walked with me into the mess hall. “We have a problem with pollen.”
I resisted the urge to bust out laughing. We’d been talking a lot about pollen on this trip. Looking up, I saw Roman at a table eating cereal, and trying not to laugh.
“Lab 8 seems to have a leak somewhere. Pollen has been seeping into the air ducts.”
I grabbed a plate of eggs and bacon and toast. “Lab 8? That’s Dr. Reigns the botanist?”
“Yeah,” Cassidy said and sat next to me. “Permission to look into it.”
I nodded as I chewed some bacon. “Dr. Reigns is right over there.” I pointed to Roman. “Just let him know what’s going on, and have your crew fix the leak. The last thing we need is for his crops to cross pollinate with Dr. Tozowa?” I said. “Can you imagine? Towzawa’s rice mixed with Dr. Reigns beets?”
Cassidy squinted his eyes as if he was thinking. “I think I tried that in a fusion restaurant on the moon once.” I busted out laughing, causing everyone in the mess to look at me.
“Anything else Orange?”
“Nah. I’ll get to it.” He stood to go.
“Orange?” I stopped him in his tracks. “Don’t forget to check the relays on deck 6.” He nodded his agreement.

The mess hall was filled this evening; everyone gathering for food and companionship. By the time I had my food, it was difficult to find an empty seat.
“Captain,” I heard Roman’s voice call out. “I’ve got an open seat if you’d like.”
Looking around, seeing no other open seats, I was grateful for a reason to sit next to Roman. “No! That’s not what I said!” Dr. Zayne said. “I said…. IF you put coconut fiber in the soil… Not WHEN.”
I was exhausted after our first full day, and I couldn’t remember all the scientist’s names. “But if you put coconut fibers in the soil, you’ll have to adjust the nutrients, and I’m not going to mess with that on this trip.” She was beautiful with long straight black hair and olive skin, Dr. Xia Lee.
“I’m just sayin….” Dr. Zayne trailed off. Turning his attention to me, he said, “Captain! Welcome to the nerd table.” His wild hair and kind smile seemed to put everyone at ease…. As if he was just too busy doing science to care about his appearance. “
I chuckled out loud, “We’re all nerds here Dr. Zayne.”
Roman was quick to pipe in, “Speak for yourself Captain.”
I couldn’t help but answer his quip, even if it was considered flirtatious. “Dr. Reigns, is it?” He nodded yes. “Exactly what is the percentage of potassium in the soil of your banana plants exactly 18 minutes after you apply the growth nutrients?”
He smiled big, “34%.”
“You’ve proven my point.” The table laughed.
“I’ll let you in on a little secret, Dr. Zayne.” I leaned forward conspiratorially. “One of the best things about going to space is that we’re all nerds….. no matter the subject. Everyone on this ship has studied science or medicine or botany…… This is probably the only time in your life when you aren’t the smartest person in the room. Enjoy being around your comrades.”
“Embrace your inner nerd?” Dr. Owens said. He was from Canada, and I think he was working with Dr. Zayne. He was built much stockier, and carried a bit of weight, but I noticed some impressive muscles on his heavily tattooed arms.
I laughed with him… “Exactly!”
“So what’s on the agenda for tonight? Anyone doing anything fun?” Dr. Niki Cross asked. She was a bundle of energy that always seemed about to explode, which made her fun to talk to. I remembered reading in her file that everyone loved working with her.
“Captain,” Dr. Kaiser said. “I understand you want to hone your chess skills?” When I nodded, he continued. “Well, three of us have brought chess sets. We were thinking of putting together a tournament. Want in?”
I smiled wide, “That sounds great. Count me in!” Roman’s smirk didn’t escape my notice.
