Makina grabbed her new hoodie and threw it over herself, zipping it up and bringing the hood over her eyes.

Anika quickly grabbed her new favorite tshirt she will own and covered the rather… explicit bar of chocolate.

Shian picked up the handcuffs, spinning them around her finger. “More for my collection, I guess.”

“Ew, gross, I don’t wanna know about your sex life.”

Anika removed the tshirt and held it up over Shian’s body, studying her. “I think the caption fits you more than it does me. I don’t wanna hear about it either, but whoever you try them with, have fun… Just keep your bedroom activities out of Makina’s ears and my eyes.”

“She’s almost an adult and spends all her time on the internet, she’s old enough to know these things.”

Anika drew her arms back, hugging the shirt to her chest. “Well okay, then! Enough of that, let’s dig into this cake that’s half Makina’s size!”

Some month-old drawings of the previous Z-777 instances before Aster. They all died long before the events of Pressure, but they do play a role in the fic/AU. Eta got an update and needs a new ref, but the other ladies are all brand new.

Eta

Born in ????, died in 1925. The original Z-777 instance, she was supposed to be the only one, but Mr. Shade captured her as a teen and experimented on her. She was betrayed by Mr. Lophee and sacrificed to the Devil to bring about Urbanshade's success upon its founding, but even the Devil grew to regret messing with the force that exists to keep things like him in check. A former associate of the Banlands, she left in 2006 with the ghost of Mr. Shade's wife when Lady Death betrayed them both, and now lingers as an unseen presence in the Blacksite, slowly gaining more strength until she can contact Aster in 2025.

Sabrina Belrose

Born 1930, contained 1948. A child of poverty, Sabrina was an unknown resistance fighter during World War 2, which is why she was chosen as the newest Huntress when she was a child. Urbanshade took notice of her after she killed a certain man, and eventually captured and started experimenting on her, leading to Sabrina breaking in 1949, and she was taken to Z-3. Her alternative form was that of an avian monster with black feathers.

Lily

Born in 1949, Lily was born into a couple working for the Hadal Division and spent her entire short life a prisoner of Urbanshade. While she was not treated poorly early on, she was not spared the same torment once they realized that she was an instance of Z-777, and Mr. Shade realized she could not replace Lucy. Being so young, Lily didn't last long during experimentation and was lost in 1957. Her alternate form was that of a cephalopod/dragon-like creature that didn't have the most stable grasp on its physical appearance.

Tia Valor

Born in 1944, contained in 1962, Tia was chosen when she was 12 but never got the chance to carry out her duty as a Huntress, as she was captured at 18 and experimented on. Known for being the first instance to fight back and break containment in 1964, she managed to kill 57 guards before being struck down and lost to Z-3. Her defiance only led to further security measures being added to the containment of Z-777, and her alternative form was that of a large quadruped.

Grace Agape

Born in 1951, contained in 1970. Grace was chosen when she was 14 and was found being harbored by The Church of [REDACTED] and brought in to be contained after the commune was terminated and the church was immolated. Developed a relationship with her psychiatric analyst, who released her from her containment cell in 1974. The psychiatrist was executed for treason, which led to Grace breaking and being lost to Z-3 not long after. Her alternative form was that of a marine creature, and she is known as the least dangerous of the Z-777 instances.

Morgan Amity

Born in 1959, contained in 1977. Morgan was found by a rival organization known as the Cross Syndicate and put under their protection, but Urbanshade captured her and subjected to the same experiments. Tired of the exploitation and abuse, Morgan escaped by feigning anesthesia, but instead of trying to escape, she let herself be fatally shot by an N.O.S.T guard during the breach of 1984, and was sent down into Z-3 while alive, knowing it would keep her alive and keep the cycle from continuing. However, given Aster's existence, she was only able to hold out for ten years before succumbing. Her alternative form was that of an eldritch equine.

Vex: Ranger is pretty obvious as she gets Trinket right out of the gate if she chooses Beastbound

Vax: Rogue but perhaps he flavors his midnight and grace spells to look more like his paladin or druid spells? Not sure on subclass...

Keyleth: Definitely a Warden of the Elements Druid in my mind

Grog: Personally I think he'd make a good Warrior, Call of the Slayer specifically

Scanlan: We all know he's gotta be a bard but I'm torn on whether he's Wordsmith or Troubadour?

Pike: Seraph! But I'm also not sure on subclass? I'm leaning towards Divine Wielder.

Percy: Hear me out, Rogue. Since Revolvers and Rifles in Daggerheart use Finesse and Agility, I think Rogue would fit best plus his smoke abilities would fit perfectly in the Midnight Domain! Not sure on Subclass...

Taryon: He is the one I am stuck on... I honestly have no clue?

Jester: I know Seraph would make sense but with her trickery domain, I feel like Sorcerer makes more sense, since it has Midnight and Arcana domains. She'd probably be Primal Origin in my mind?

Fjord: Wizard! As weird as it sounds, the Codex domain kind of reminds me of Warlocks Eldritch Invocations? And he can multiclass into Guardian later to become more tanky! School of War for Wizard, unsure on Guardian subclass.

Caleb: Either Elemental Origin Sorcerer or School of Knowledge Wizard... Maybe he multiclasses so he's both?

Nott/Veth: Rogue to start, since it has both Grace and Midnight. Later multiclasses into Wizard to take Codex. Nightwalker for Rogue, not sure on wizard subclass.

Beau: She has the Valor Domain no matter what bc they have the ability Bare Bones. So I'd lean towards Vengeance Guardian?

Yasha: Probably starts as a Stalwart Guardian but later multiclasses into Winged Sentinel Seraph.

Mollymauk: Molly's a weird one... And I love him for that. I'm thinking he starts as bard and multiclasses into Warrior. Wordsmith Bard and Call of the Slayer Warrior.

Caduceus: Also a weird one, I think Caduceus fits as a druid who multiclasses into Seraph. Warden of Renewal Druid and I'm unsure on Seraph subclass but takes the Splendor Domain?

Kingsley: Has Wordsmith Bard and Call of the Slayer Warrior but also multiclasses into Rogue: I'm leaning towards Syndicate bc he's so showy.

Imogen: Definitely a Sorcerer, either Elemental Origin with Lightning or Primal Origin where her abilities are flavored to look like lightning.

Laudna: Also a Sorcerer, I'm leaning towards Primal Origin with her multiclassing into Wizard for School of War and Codex Domain.

Orym: Guardian, Stalwart but multiclasses into Call of the Brave Warrior and takes the Bone Domain.

Dorian: Bard but I'm leaning towards Wordsmith subclass just because I don't vibe with him being a Troubadour for some reason I cannot pinpoint?

10 things about me

so... i had a whole list of 10 things typed up last night and i got on this morning and tumblr had reverted the draft to an earlier one? unfortunate. taking this opportunity to yap even more than i had.

so tumblr made that one really large when i typed it and i got scared (was on maybe 3 hrs of sleep). ANYWAY my high school job was esports production, specifically (valorant) observing, and i miss it dearly i fear. the one event i fully peaked working was a showmatch between super popular streamers/players (disguisedtoast's showmatch w/ tenz etc). i had so much aura then--reasonably well known young female talent--but i fell off (graduated and went away)... the problem is that i still am heavily invested in esports. could not care less abt most traditional sports teams but ask me about vct and i will go OFF. prx & sen <3. my one horror story was the one time i think i hit 17-18k viewers on my obs stream (it was 100thieves) and i accidentally hit my esc key and pulled up settings during a game round. i took my esc keycap off after that.

someone let me have access to a kindle at the tender age of six and for a few years i promptly consumed an ungodly amount of stratemeyer syndicate dime novels & zane grey westerns (+ any horse book i could get my hands on for free in the kindle store). i still read dime novels lmao (and liveblog them to people who are fascinated by my choice of literature bc i'm so interested in them from a historical perspective). speaking of formative books the first book i vividly remember shipping characters for was lucy fitch perkins' the scotch twins. 9 year old shipping aside, that book is still absolute chaotic peak wait i am going to reread it right now. (the next one was rilla of ingleside.)

my chinese name is 说心. it means delighted heart.

i have never listened to a chappell roan song on purpose. being around horse girls means that i am exposed to pink pony club and hot to go an unreasonable amount but never On Purpose. no hate to her but it is now my personal mission to keep it that way.

i have 5 library cards across 3 states and am hunting for more. libby hates to see me coming.

there are approx 1700 books in my house. i counted. and logged them all in a spreadsheet last summer. i cannot be trusted around library book sales.

i took a gap year before college and went to work/study/apprentice on a ranch/camp with the intent of going into barn but last minute pivoted into guest services instead. i don't regret it as i think january snowstorm chores would have ended me but also i wound up far more involved in horses than i was anticipating afterwards. i did still go back to barn for summer camp and wrangled trail rides which i REALLY miss these days.

if you gave me the choice of any animal in the world to have, it would be a little blue roan cowhorse. PLEASE. that or a funny colored chincoteague pony (the misty of chincoteague has never worn off thank you marguerite henry) i looove wackadoodle colored ponies < fact: i saw the pony swim in 2022. it wasn't a very good view but i was there and the parade was awesome.

i took online classes for six years and in retrospect i Absolutely Should Not Have. however i am forever grateful for the large number of rpgs i gm'd and wrote for partially bc they cobbled together the only friendgroup i still talk to constantly from high school. diabolically i'm literally the only one in that group in my timezone the rest of them all live in one other timezone and most of them in the same state somehow? also some of those rpgs had incredible storytelling and characterization i don’t know if i could write that well anymore LOL

my lobe piercings are uneven bc i had my senior friend pierce them in her room at like 8pm one night during my freshman year and neither of us clocked that they were uneven. it is impressive work that said piercings have never been truly infected. tbh i think it doesn't matter unless i wind up with stacks but that's a future problem for when i get more piercings (professionally done).

Beach Episode: Chapter 9

Beach Episode follows Renya Laidir, who drags her companions out to her home in Rivain for a week-long break to recharge, and for her to figure out her new relationship with the resident necromancer. The arrival of her former master from her time as a slave in Tevinter, begging for her help recovering a dangerous artifact before it falls in the hands of the gods, throws a wrench in her plan to relax.

Excerpt:

The Moon Jellies Tournament was a big deal on the Rivaini coastline. Isabela had taken the tradition from the pirate syndicate that used to occupy the Hall of Valor, sans the slaves, and turned it into the most anticipated event within the Lords. Part of the fun of the tournament was the randomization of it. A Spirit of Competition would pair competitors, and the advancement to the next round was based only partially on who won the match.

As the assembled crowd listened to Isabela give her grand spiel on the rules and proceedings of the tournament from the platform above the fighting ring, Valens leaned a little closer to Rook. “So, this isn't even measured on skill? You just have to look good?”

Rook grinned. “Showmanship is everything in the Lords. Spin a good tale for Isabela to introduce you to the crowd with, wear something loud or provocative, have a flashy signature move, and you might be able to disguise the fact that you're a shit fighter.”

“That hardly seems fair,” Valens muttered. “So I'm going to be out on the first round?”

"The final say goes to the Spirit of Competition,” Rook said with a shrug. “If it takes a liking to you, that might help you through the first few rounds. Besides, they might eat up the whole ‘Venatori’ shtick.”

“Or it'll make everyone want to beat you harder,” Taash gave him a feral grin. “Better hope you get paired with someone who'll protect your ass.”

She hardly dared to think it, lest the Spirit of Competition sense her hope, but Rook would kill to have Taash as her partner in the ring. They had been forbidden by Shathaan to participate in the tourney in years past, and Rook hoped they could secure a win together.

A faint touch to her back had her turning her head to find Emmrich, dressed in his gurn's hide armor Rook had insisted he have made. It bore a little more protection than his flowing coat or robes, with the added benefit of those long, long legs being on full display.

Not that she spent time staring at his legs. Not at all.

“This promises to be a fascinating study of the spirits,” Emmrich commented earnestly. “It's a wonder we don't have something similar in Nevarra, if only learn more about the impulses and preferences of different spirits! I wonder if perhaps Myrna would enjoy coming to spectate at the next one so she can measure the etheric…” He trailed off as he noticed Rook's smile. “Sorry, I was rambling, wasn't i?”

She rose on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear, acutely aware of Valens's eyes on her. “It's sexy, how passionate you are about your work.”

The necromancer's cheeks reddened as he fumbled for words. “I…am fortunate you think so.”

The horn blared, indicating that the Spirit was ready to announce the partnerships. The crowd surged toward the podium and delighted whoops sounded. Rook turned to the rest of her team gathered behind her with a grin. “I look forward to beating your asses soundly.”

Two by two, the crowd split off to get into positions outside the entrances to the rings as the Spirit, taking the form of a jovial spectral woman clad in a seafarer's attire, called out pairings. Krem left first with a qunari mage, shooting Harding a disappointed shrug. Then Davrin, paired with one of Rook's old crewmates, who gaped wide-eyed as Assan soared overhead at the Warden's whistle. Neve saluted them before leaving hand in hand with another Lord, an elven woman Rook remembered being wicked with a lance in years past.

Bellara had elected not to participate, the sleepless nights overwhelming her, and Lucanis had been deemed ineligible due to his unfair advantage with Spite by Competition. (Spite was NOT pleased with this ruling.)

Harding and Emmrich were the next to be paired, the former teaching the latter a high five.

Then Valens stepped up and handed his registration ticket to Isabela, who scowled deeply before waving him off to the Spirit.

Rook watched the Spirit extend a hand, and Valens took it gingerly. Then it raised its head to lock eyes with her over the magister's shoulder, an oversized grin stretching its features. “Valens Finolus and Renya Laidir. Not-master and not-slave, forging new chains.”

Her stomach dropped out, and for a second, they both just gaped at the spirit. Then Isabela spoke before she got the chance. “Absolutely not. Pick someone else for him.”

The spirit smiled dreamily. “The rules are as stated. They may leave the competition if this pairing is not amenable to them.”

"It’s fine, Iz,” Rook cut in hastily. “He’ll just have to keep up.”

Valens gave her a small, crooked grin. “I’m not too worried about that.”

How would your ocs handle writing an essay for the ENEM?

(CONTEXT: in brazil "essay" is usually shorthand for a very specific type of text that is required in the national entrance exam for all public universities of the country — the enem/exame nacional do ensino medio/national highschool exam — so whenever someone talks about that thats what my mind jumps to lmao. and i was wondering how they'd do. An ENEM essay is a dissertative-argumentative text taking from 7 to 30 lines with ideally four to five paragraphs: an introduction, two or more developing paragraphs and a conclusion. The conclusion must feature a proposal of solution to the problem-situation you have to dissert about. Also the problem-situation is handed to you and you have to make the text about that. Also you are not informed of the problem-situation before the exam. Also you have five hours to do the entire test + the essay.

The problem-situations from some of the last years, just to give an idea, were "challenges for the valorization of african heritage in the country" (2024) "challenges for fighting the invisibility of the work and care realized by women" (2023) and "democratization of access to cinema/theaters" (2029).

That's an interesting idea for an exam! Hmm, let's think.

Eldwin cares deeply, far more than he lets on. Of course, he's very jaded and apathetic with the syndicate, but that's not how he is naturally. In a world where he is writing for an ENEM I think he would be very up to date on politics, social issues, all that stuff. He has a strong sense of justice too, so I could see him having a lot to say about world issues, and he's generally good at solving problems. However, he is pretty closed-minded and would struggle to hear out any opposition. He might not appear sincere, and he would struggle to convey a calm, pragmatic solution. He might get caught up in his ideals rather than a truly practical solution.

Of course, if he take his syndicate personality into account he fails LMAO. If he's happy and well-adjusted, he might pass. Maybe.

I think for Jowan this might actually be one academic situation where he does pretty poorly. See Jowan is so smart academically but he doesn't really care about things he's not personally involved in so he is probably ill-informed about ongoing problems. If perchance the subject is something he cares about, he'd do well, but it would very much depend on the subject. (Those examples listed? He wouldn't have a clue.)

paladin talk derived- what would you have liked to see as ul'dah paladins or knights? aesthetics, oaths, lore, other stuff?

I've said before in my old post comparing various jobs (PLD, DRK) with the Oaths of 5e D&D that as they are, the Sultansworn fit the "Oath of the Crown" due to being primarily focused on their role as the Sultana's guards; they are there to be old school historical knightly guardians of the ruling family and their palace.

Oath of the Crown The Oath of the Crown is sworn to the ideals of civilization, be it the spirit of a nation, fealty to a sovereign, or service to a deity of law and rulership. The paladins who swear this oath dedicate themselves to serving society and, in particular, the laws that hold society together. These paladins are the watchful guardians on the walls, standing against the chaotic tides of barbarism that threaten to tear down all that civilization has built, and are commonly known as guardians, exemplars, or sentinels. Often, paladins who swear this oath are members of an order of knighthood in service to a nation or sovereign, and undergo their oath as part of their admission to the order's ranks.

So if we're sticking to fantasy style paladins with a hint of history nerding from the writers, this sort of thing suits them, really.

And honestly, what lore we get in ARR isn't bad; the quest story around it is boring, but the concepts, tenets, oaths, history? It could still work. Throw out the HW "job stones vying for dominance" nonsense, and again, don't forget they exist past the starting zone, and it'd be fine! The Sultansworn should be more a part of the messy politics of Ul'dah and involved in some of the central events, especially those in and around the palace and dealing with the Sultana. Where does the order fall during all these events? How many are actually loyal to Nanamo and Papashan? How many are swayed by the Syndicate and allow events to happen? We don't know, and that's one of my issues in how the story unfolded.

Cuz the Sultansworn that are locked to their positions like at the doors to the Fragrant Chamber, it's just...business as usual. And some of it is the shorthand, truncated allowance for story in a MMO environment, but a lot of it also feels like an oversight when plotting out events like a full on coup that puts the Sultana's life on the line and her personal guard are nowhere to be seen.

So where's the storyline about dealing with the fallout of ARR, of the Sultansworn picking up the pieces and rooting out traitors...OR, since we had an Ul'dah paladin story in ARR (mediocre as it is), then give us the Ishgardian one in HW to compare/contrast. Then, let them come together in the Stormblood chain (maybe still have it be a tournament), as the two different paladin orders from two different nations duke it out and eventually come to an accord on how they're more similar than they first appeared and want the same things in the end: the safety and security of their peoples and Eorzea as a whole.

As for aesthetics, the short answer: Dhalmekia in FF16 does a better job at invoking the culture and military (with an elite guardian order to boot) of a desert nation in their clothing/armor and weapons.

However, in original and rebuilt FF14 that's now over a decade old...

The armor we get for the AFs are lacking in religious iconography, but still feel very "traditional Fantasy Pan-European Holy Knight via video game physics" you'll find in any other RPG, either video or tabletop. This includes the first set, which is what we get from our Sultansworn trainer, even if the Player is a "Free Paladin". Like the Valor chest piece almost works in its underlying construction, but they throw that style of tabard and the ridic shoulder pads on top, and those gloves and boots. And a crown instead.

Several of the ARR AFs are taken from earlier games for their iconic looks, and I am not certain if I am missing other historical references in those gearsets, or if it's all simply rendering iconic game gear from earlier FFs into something that works in 14.

Part of the trouble to is all of the common outfits in ARR are, for the most part, real generic tunics, robes, and pants for everyone regardless of region. There's very little change in appearance for outfits across the realm regardless of whether one is in South Thanalan, La Noscea, or Coerthas. And looking at what 1.x material there is, it was pretty much the same. We have various turbans in game since ARR, but I'd like something a little less "generic fantasy armor" and acknowledging other forms...that we don't really get to see until we get some Eastern-themed outfits in HW, and then especially in Stormblood. For the most part, it's either full plate or chain. We've also had curved swords (scimitars, sabers) for awhile, why not make something like that, with a round shield, more the uniform of the Sultansworn, instead of a straight blade and kite shield?

I have a Watcher paladin in a D&D game where I ended up looking into Turkish folk styles and Earlier Ottoman armors for her gear. I've also recently (and this is going a little more into the Caucasus) gotten into traditional Georgian clothes, with the chokha worn by their soldiers developed from earlier century kaftans, as they sat at a crossroads of the trade routes.

Here is an unrolled thread about Crusade history (had to auto-translate) with some art and photographic examples of different periods and regions. Even when the historical Faris (from the idea of Furusiyya, which was a knightly code and concept in Arabic medieval times and like chivalry and knights in the West, started with who had horses) wore more metal armor, it was different from traditional European styles. But given the strictures on styles in 1.x and through 2.0, that really wasn't feasible.

For a huge part, I'm just real done with Pan-West-European fantasy, especially when a token effort is made to add varied regions, but it ends being just that: tokenism, and the rest doesn't take into account the actual environment they've created (which is why I say if you're going to make just another Euro-flavored knight order, stick them in the Euro-flavored knight zone). CU3's gotten better about that over time, especially as they've gotten more budget, more people, and better technology. Development marches on, but it really makes the gaps in early game noticeable, and I kinda hope (but don't expect) for some subtle swap outs and revisions to the generic early gear everyone in ARR zones are currently stuck with.

I’m making this post to establish how my PokeMedia Character(s) see the timeline of the Pokémon world. For it I’m taking most remakes over the originals except for Let’s Go (Absolutely Janked) and BDSP (Because they’re near identical to DPP so it makes no difference).

This timeline operates off of 3 major assumptions:

1. The events of Scarlet and Violet as well as present and upcoming DLC have happened recently/within the last year.

2. Scarlet and Violet, Sword and Shield, and Sun and Moon are all approximately one year apart.

3. The “few years” between HGSS/DPP and Black and White is 3 years.

Additionally a handful of events are assigned arbitrary timeframes such as “some” or “several” or are given real world dates because Gen 1. These are also assumed and will be marked with a !, but remain consistent with each other.

After that, everything is based off of the game timeline developed by Bulbapedia, with slight adjustments made to fit the base assumptions set above.
