Your take on The Rift would also be great to see.
Let's just say I really wanted to slap Toph brutally after getting through that.
(Then again, I always want to slap Toph. What a mouthy, rude, violent, undisciplined little brat she is...)
"Suki laughed along this time"
When was that?
I can't recall that happening in the comics.
(Albeit it has been a while since I last read the ones where Suki was involved.)
I really wanted to slap Zuko when he said this to Aang. Like dude, you do realize that the dead nation that you are making fun of is dead thanks to your family, right? The very same family who has profited from the deaths of the air nomads and countless others for a 100 years since the war started? Kindly shut the fuck up. He's lucky Aang didn't get pissed with him and decide to kick him out of the group. He would have been completely justified.

We all know the jokes about Zuko passing out from doing a good thing and of course it's been pointed out that it's literally a trauma response that happens both in the show when he's faced with doing something that goes against what his father told him was right, and in the comics when he is afraid he's becoming Ozai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what both of those scenes have in common is that it happens not just after Zuko is forced to make a conflicting decision that reminds him of the situation his father put him in when he was thirteen. It's also true that in both cases, he experiences a crash after he's safe and no longer in danger. That pretty closely mirrors the rush of adrenaline after a traumatic trigger, plus the sudden exhaustion once the danger has passed. After freeing Appa triggers that ptsd response in him in the show, Zuko passes out the moment he is safe in Iroh's house, because he knows that Iroh is a safe person that he can allow himself to be vulnerable with. Zuko does the same thing in The Promise when he passes out after Aang saves him from falling into the chasm and Zuko realizes he was right to try and protect the people of Yu Dao.
I think it's also worth noting that in both cases, experiencing conflict with someone who he saw as someone who both cared for him and as a moral authority is what caused the stress, but then being cared for by that person reassured him that it was safe to let that person take care of him.
It's not just being told that he did the right thing, but that he deserves care and that his life has value that makes Zuko feel like he's safe, after spending the series feeling like he had to prove his worth to Ozai and spending The Promise thinking that he didn't deserve to live.
Both cases make me wonder what it was like for thirteen year old Zuko waking up after the agni kai and finding out that not only is his father willing to hurt him, but also wants him sent away.

Forever laughing over how The Promise is just like
Zuko: "Clearly, my father should be the authority over the world and can never be wrong and if I disagree with him, there's something fundentally wrong with me."
Aang: *overtakes his father*
Zuko, looking at Aang: . . .
Zuko: "Clearly,-"
And Aang's just over there genuinely concerned for his friend's sanity

Your top 3 when it comes to Oscar Isaac with animals
Well, of course I am so very happy Oscar likes animals. I couldn't love him like I do if he didn't; animals are my life, and anyone who is going to be in my life (even if just in fantasy) has to care about them, too!
Top Oscar with animals: his horse sense!

He may not be an expert horseman, but he is comfortable with them and sits them well, and from interviews he's had, he enjoys being around them. I could watch him on a horse all day...
Two: He obviously loves dogs!

And three: We can't forget cats! He worked with more than one in Llewyn Davis (if you pay attention, you can tell them apart). It can't be easy working with cats, no matter how well trained, but he seems to have had the patience to make it work!

Thanks for the ask!

Okay, but we get how this trope itself is sexist, right? Why is Aang acting surprised that Katara can fight? The idea that girls can fight and be girls is something we learned in episode four of the original show. Katara has been beating up fire nation soldiers since episode two. This is a martial arts fantasy show where every character can fight. Male characters don't get this surprised, tongue-in-cheek reaction to them fighting because we already expect them to. And then a few panels later, Aang goes into the Avatar state because Zuko grabbed her arm. Katara literally threatens to hurt Zuko back and Aang is like "oh, no, I have to save her from someone holding her arm!" Which I don't think shows that he respected the fact that she just gave the smackdown to a whole bunch of soldiers.

a:tla the promise
i agree with nothing regarding azula's direction. i sum it up as the writers wanted to maintain azula as a villain for zuko (instead of creating a new, original one that corresponds with the colonies since their contention could create multiple storyline threads). i think zuko and azula's dynamic as enemies should have been left in a:tla. its' hand is overplayed at this point. their opposition should have been left on the field of the agni kai since it was the peak of their dynamic. nothing can top that so everything thereafter is going to feel sloppy
