IN the Book of Ruth, a Gentile widow seeks redemption at the feet of a Jewish kinsman, Boaz:

“When Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in good spirits, he went over to lie down at the far end of the grain pile. Ruth approached quietly, uncovered his feet and lay down. In the middle of the night something startled the man; he turned—and there was a woman lying at his feet! ‘Who are you?’ he asked. ‘I am your servant Ruth,’ she said. ‘Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer’” (Ruth 3:7–9).

Because Ruth is a woman of kindness and noble character, Boaz happily agrees to redeem her in accordance with the “law of redemption by marriage” (Deut. 25:5–10). He gives her six measures of barley as a token of commitment, and takes her to be his wife that same day (Ruth 3:15; 4:9, 10).

The timing is late spring, around Pentecost.

REDEMPTION SIGN

With the story of Ruth’s redemption in view, it is fascinating to consider an upcoming astronomical alignment. On June 8, the Day of Pentecost, an asteroid named “Ruth” will pass between the feet of the Redeemer figure in the constellation Gemini.

The astronomical picture of Ruth at the feet of the Redeemer in Gemini is significant for two reasons:

1. It evokes the biblical account of Ruth’s wedding–redemption.

2. The twin figures of Gemini symbolize the ultimate wedding–redemption at the Rapture. In his 1882 book, The Gospel in the Stars, Joseph Seiss explains: “The twin figures of a man and woman depict the completed union with [Jesus] …. which occurs when the sainted dead are raised, and … those of His who are then still alive, are caught up in incorruption to meet Him in the heavenly spaces.”

The alignment on Pentecost thus evokes two redemptive weddings, that of the Gentile Ruth, and that of the primarily Gentile Church.

But there is more to this Redemption Sign. As Asteroid Ruth is passing between the feet of the Redeemer, a pair of asteroids named “Daniel” and “Weeks” are hovering nearby.

That “Daniel” and “Weeks” are near the Redeemer is significant because “Daniel’s Weeks Prophecy” conveys the timing of the ultimate redemption—at the “70th week” (Dan. 9:24).

Adding to the Daniel–Weeks correlation, the Redemption Sign occurs on the 70th day of the biblical year and during Israel’s 70th Jubilee, making it a 70 within a 70. Furthermore, since the Redemption Sign occurs on Pentecost, a 50th day, during a Jubilee, a 50th year, it is a 50 within a 50.

Thus, the Redemption Sign at Pentecost is numerically a 70 within a 70 and a 50 within a 50—a fourfold expression of redemption related to Daniel’s Weeks Prophecy and the Jubilee, or year of redemption.

Finally, with the themes of the Redemption Sign in view—Ruth, redemption, Pentecost, weeks and Jubilee—it is significant that, according to the biblical chronology, 2025 marks the 67th Jubilee since Boaz and Ruth were married, circa 1280 BC. That the Redemption Sign occurs at the 67th Jubilee since Ruth’s Pentecostal wedding is significant because:

• The Gematria value of the name Ruth is 67.

• Jews traditionally read Psalm 67 each day, during the count of seven weeks to Pentecost.

• 1967 is when Jerusalem was restored to the Jews, the event that in Daniel’s Weeks Prophecy initiates the count of seven weeks, or one Jubilee period, to the Redeemer–Messiah (Dan. 9:25).

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

In the Book of Ruth, a Gentile widow finds redemption at the feet of a Jewish redeemer, around Pentecost.

On the Day of Pentecost, 2025:

• Asteroid Ruth will pass between the feet of the Redeemer in Gemini, the constellation that depicts a redemptive wedding.

• Two Asteroids whose names evoke the timing of the redemption—Daniel and Weeks—are also near the Redeemer.

The above alignment occurs:

• On the 70th day of Israel’s 70th Jubilee, which is also a 50th day within a 50th year.

• 67 Jubilees after Ruth’s redemptive wedding at Pentecost, which is significant because the number 67 is associated with the name Ruth, and the count of weeks to Pentecost and the Jubilee, or year of redemption.

Jesus said that when we see the signs of His coming to look up, because our “redemption” is near (Luke 21:28).

The Redemption Sign suggests that it is near indeed.

NOTES:

1. The date of Pentecost is calculated by counting seven weeks from “the day after the Sabbath” following Passover (Lev. 23:15, 16). The day after the Sabbath following Passover in 2025 is April 20. Counting seven weeks from April 20, we arrive at June 8, the Day of Pentecost.

2. Because Ruth was redeemed around Pentecost, Jews traditionally read the Book of Ruth during this festival each year.

3. Coincidentally, the biblical laws of redemption by marriage and the Jubilee appear in chapters numbered 25—Deuteronomy 25 and Leviticus 25.

5. While Ruth and Boaz were married on or around Pentecost, Scripture does not specify when the couple actually began cohabiting, or dwelling together. A clue that it may have been soon after the wedding, however, is that Ruth continued to dwell with her mother-in-law until all the wheat was harvested (Ruth 2:23). In the area of Bethlehem, the location of the field in which Ruth was gleaning, the harvesting, or cutting, of wheat is typically complete by late May or early June, the time of Pentecost.

6. The lefthand figure in Gemini, associated with the constellation’s brightest star, Pollux, represents the Redeemer. Interestingly, the stars Castor and Pollux (Gemini) are mentioned as being the figurehead of a ship that carried Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles (Acts 28:11).

8. According to Stellarium astronomy software, 2025 is the only year between 2000 and 2050 that Asteroid Ruth passes between the feet of the Redeemer in Gemini at Pentecost.

9. Ruth’s redemptive wedding foreshadows the Rapture:

• The Rapture is a “redemption” (Rom. 8:23; Luke 21:28; Eph. 4:30).

• The Jewish–Gentile couple, Boaz and Ruth, represent Jesus and the Church.

• The betrothal and wedding occur on or around Pentecost, the betrothal date of the Church (Acts 2).

• The wedding occurs during the grain harvest, the season of the rapture–harvest (Matt. 13)

• The six measures of barley given to Ruth evoke the end of the Church Age at the 6,000th year (Ruth 3:15; Barnabas 15:3–9).

• The traditional ages of Ruth and Boaz, 40 and 80, add up to 120, the total number of Jubilee–redemption years in God’s 6,000-year plan.

• Asteroid (798) Ruth, discovered by German astronomer Max Wolf on November 21, 1914, is named after the biblical character, Ruth.

• Asteroid (2589) Daniel, discovered by Swedish astronomer Claes-Ingvar Lagerkvist on August 22, 1979, is named after the discoverer’s son, Daniel Lagerkvist.

• Asteroid (5057) Weeks, discovered by physics professor Eric R. Weeks on February 22, 1987, is named after its discoverer.

According to Daniel’s Weeks Prophecy, Messiah the Prince appears “seven weeks” after a command to rebuild Jerusalem: “From the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem unto one anointed, a prince, shall be seven weeks; and for threescore and two weeks, it shall be built again, with broad place and moat, but in troublous times” (Dan. 9:25 JPS Tanakh). While Jerusalem was restored to the Jews in 1967, a master plan* to rebuild the Holy City was not published until August 1970. Thus, the count of seven weeks begins at the first Sabbatical week after 1970, presumably 1976 (1976 + 7 weeks = 2025).
