a hammock wherever you want
#spidey#i wanted to draw him napping#the immediate next step of which is realizing that his big bug eyes would still be open#and being like. well. that is really funny actually.#O_O zzzz#we can stylize his lenses as squinting and widening for expressiveness' sake#or even explain it away as fancy tech (maybe even canon for all i know.#but only for career advanced spideys and orphan annie ass MCU spidey presumably. because otherwise with what fuckin budget)#but draw the line at drawing a line to give him closed eyes#i just don't think little U's would work for him#he'd look like a bootleg toy#but maybe that would also be funny.

I hate to break it to Republicans but at this point most of the so called "DEI hires" in workplaces are white men who don't have the skills, certificates, degrees, and/or experience for the job and only got their positions because a friend of a friend got them hired. Like women, non-white people, queer people, disabled people, and many others all know they'd be first on the chopping block at their job which is why they are usually the ones most qualified, and even overqualified, in their workplace. They're the ones with the degrees, years of experience, tons of skills, and who meet or exceed expectations at their job. They're the ones who work their asses off and keep the place running. And when it comes to cutting people, managers and administrators only care about who can keep the lights on and the numbers high. So Bradley, who only got the job because a family member convinced the manager to hire him even though he was not qualified at all, and he's doing the bare minimum every month, and he sucks to work with, is getting cut first. Simple as that.
#someone of you don't want to hear this#but you need to hear it#now is this applicable to every workplace?#no! BUT#for the majority of places it is#example where i work as a lab tech#my degree my lab experience and my skills got me hired#my work ethic my pleasant demeanor and my reliability keep me employed#compare all of that to another lab tech who works in a lab two doors down#who got the job because his uncle convinced his boss to hire him#who doesnt have a stem degree or lab experience#and who regularly either no call no shows or leave four hours early even when he has projects#if the budget gets tight and someones gotta go i know its not me#because i worked my ass off for this position and work to keep it#and he doesn't#you coule argue im a so called dei hire as a queer woman#but lets be real here#if we put our resumes our degrees our references and our skills side by side#i know who's getting chosen every time#my ramblings#not tf

Making my own post because now capitalism is just revolving in my brain and I want to respond, but I've intruded more than enough. ^^"
I do think capitalism can be solved, and history actually gives me hope because it shows the fundamental need of society. Humans aren't inherently greedy or cruel. The greed and the cruelty are symptoms of a long-standing human need to make things better than they were before: to live comfortably, and without fear.
Capitalism is merely the current expression of this need that we live in.
Solving the need is absolutely possible by establishing a baseline standard of living and resource allotment. And that's comparable to an amount of 'work' that we deem acceptable in our daily lives. Because if you think about it, making coffee every morning with a Keurig gets you a similar product to making coffee every morning with a hand grinder and cold press: one just takes more resources and time than the other.
However, this needs to be flexible because humans are individuals with different needs, and the premise is also questionable because who's setting this baseline anyway?
I personally think it has more to do with government setting a cap on resource imports. (I think it should be stronger than tariffs, personally. Just a hard cap for the year.)
You can't really control demand. That's what most socialists do, and it always fails because humans fundamentally want to make their lives easier. But you can control resource management. If the government says we can only import 20 tons of cotton this year, and we produce 80 tons of cotton, so companies get 100 tons of cotton to do whatever with, and that's it. If we want more cotton, we have to axe some other import.
It 1) makes management visual. 2) gives citizens a personal reason to be invested in their government. 3) will not allocate resources fairly, but will show the true value of a product for the region it's in and prioritize local resources [i.e. if your country does not produce garnets, garnets will be more expensive than gold]. 4) increases jobs since there's far less incentive to outsource work, overall decreasing inequality. 5) encourages a circular economy.
In which case, I suppose I'm for some form of socialist autarky and I think that would solve a decent number of capitalist problems. Companies could no longer overrun workers and there's individual choice behind jobs, work, and some form of style of living.
It IS bad in like- fifty million other ways though. You can't just go from a country used to living in a capitalist society to imposing tariffs and screaming about autarky. Natural resources WILL be destroyed on your own soil and the biggest nation will have the highest quality of living. Imports have to be on a factor of population growth and this might only be possible with nations for a declining population rate. If at all. You also have to add a judicial angle for the people who will inevitably try to take over that system. And, most of all, you have to commit to not going to fucking war over state expansion for resources. Looking at you, Russia.
So I suppose we COULD solve capitalism, at the expense of a whole lot of other problems that are equally meh-to-bad.
Governments are fundamentally resource management machines though, and it's really stupid to pretend they aren't. With resource management, comes capping the fuck out of companies (specialists) that abuse the system (monopolies/oligarchies). When a government doesn't do that (whatever the method), it's failed its purpose as a government and also needs to be put down (revolution).
#Walking through this in my head and it's actually a bit bleaker than I thought. That is fundamentally the solution though. If you#had an autarky (with copious imports) you /can/ balance that budget but EVERYONE on the fucking planet has to be committed.#Otherwise you're just back to the Bronze Age. Rinse and repeat.#But I think there is hope because technology DOES upset that cycle. Tech DOES mean we can recycle resources more efficiently#than ever before and use nuclear/solar/wind power that doesn't necessitate human intervention. If we prioritize energy into regrowth#rather than production I think we could see substantial change into a circular economy that would shift the cycle of resource boom and bust#My dream is to run a hydrometallurgical plant on a fault line for the production of base and precious metals.#Low yield but not energy intensive and no damage to the environment.#ptxt#jesus christ alright I've thought enough about resources. xD Time to go write the Liztlie AU.#... I'm just kind of dwelling on all the problems with autarky now.

Read your orchids tags and what a mood... I'm also someone who recently started having disposable income and definitely can spend money but have a lot of guilt about doing it anyway. Idk I guess it's just nice knowing that there's other people going through the same things and that adulting is Weird. I hope you get all the purple flowers! I hope we can both overcome our spending guilt!!! Raaa!!!
Aw, haha, I totally feel you anon! I've literally budgeted a certain percentage of my take-home income as "guilt free spending" and I'm pretty okay with spending it on relatively low-cost stuff, like a $20 game or whatever, but a $65 orchid seems nuts to me even though I'll probably obsess over it for months and months while the game sits unplayed in my Steam library, HAH. I keep thinking "I'm buying too much..." and then I do the math and actually, no, I'm under budget.
Starting last month is actually the first time in my life I've supported myself entirely off of my own income, and I'm 28, so I've jumped from "$100 is so much money" to, y'know, paying rent and bills and buying a couch and so on, and getting used to seeing sums of money that large come and go in my bank account has been an interesting adjustment. On top of that, I also just grew up fairly frugal. We were never in dire straits financially, but we immigrated to the USA without much money, and also, just, like... it's the broke Soviet expat attitude, hahaha. Even when we Had Money it was a matter of Should We Really Be Spending It? (Which has worked out great for my parents and made me like-minded! But even my dad has told me, like, "Worry less, it's not that much money," lol.)
I think it's not an uncommon way to feel, and sometimes I try to justify it to myself in "going to the movies" units of money. Going to a nice movie theator and having a good time without going crazy but still splurging on a snack or a drink or something runs on average about $25 and most people wouldn't consider that too unreasonable. Would this orchid be worth about three fun afternoons to me? Well, that no longer sounds excessive.
Not a super reliable measurement, but it's mostly just meant to put things into some perspective without actually being a strict judgment.
At the end of the day, though, I just tell myself that as satisfying as it is to transfer dollars into my Fidelity account to sit on like a dragon, this money is literally in my budget to enjoy on whatever. I have paid my bills. I have put money into savings and investments. I have enough for groceries. What is money for after that if not to enjoy life?
#ask#personal#Anonymous#who knows wtf it's gonna do to my brain in 3 years when I graduate residency and my income nearly quadruples#I guess that's when you buy a house or something...#dear diary#oh it also helps that I have a lot of stipend cash from my residency for residency-related things#annually: $2k meal card and $1k education/equipment/books budget#plus one-time $300 tech $400 phone (will combine) $100 scrubs#so for example I don't need to pay hundreds of dollars myself for the question bank / study guide for my exams#or the exams themselves those get comped as well

Hey was soll das??

6, 10, and 17 for rgg (in general)! also 19 for judgement specifically

Oda. I mean. I don't think i have to elaborate lmao
it's not even that he's human trafficker (dont...take that out of context) or that he trafficked Makoto at all. It's that he NEVER expressed one ounce of regret for his actions outside of how they affected his unrequited crush Tachibana. He never even fucking apoligized to Makoto. But the narrative and Kiryu act like had a redemption arc and it drives me up the wall.
I also really hate Nishitani...but I've gotten into fights about this so i shant say any more

ALL OF RGG? Hmmm...Blood of a Lion by Beast in Black! Very thematically resonant to RGG

Such a cool question. RGG has been such a presence in my life for so long it's shaped some of my tastes so I'll need to think about this
In general I do prefer dark, more grounded stories. When it comes to crime fiction, my favorite subgenre is noir. And I mean REAL noir, bleak and dark and a dismal ending. RGG's levity and...pushing suspension of disbelief beyond limits is unique for me.
Gameplay-wise, i do NOT like brawlers and I usually play on easy to get through the combat. This doesn't apply to Ichiban's games obv (the opposite for me there - i LOVE the gameplay) and Judgment's combat is so good and smooth that it MAKES me enjoy the brawling gameplay. But Kiryu and the protags of Y4 feel so sloggish to me that I'm more withstanding their gameplay than enjoying it.
Also all the objectification of women. Really not into that.

now i AM writing a sequel fic but as it's specifically a kuwagami fic, it has a large dose of self-indulgent contrivance so I'll pitch a J3 I think RGGS would make
With the Kaito Files we've seen Kaito is a formidable detective himself and can handle his own case load. Also we're LUCKY Kimura has returned for this. But he's expensive so we can't use him too much.
So let's make this a dual narrative told between Yagami and Kaito sections. They will still interact with each other at certain cutscenes so we get plenty of their nice chemistry but for the main plot they are working on their own. Yagami will team up with Saori and Sugiura at points and Kaito will lean on Hoshino and Tsukumo.
Let's start with Team Yagami. Saori has a case where she must defend a client on a robbery case. Problem is, even tho he's been caught on camera, he INSISTS he was not in Kamurocho at the time of the robbery. And he is not lying. Yet when Saori tries to press him for more info, he clams up. So she conscripts Yagami to do a private background investigation on him.
Meanwhile Kaito is out with Higashi when he sees an old Matsugane family member. He goes over and starts catching up with the guy but he's acting a little weird. He then dies quite suddenly in front of Kaito, the victim of a poisoning. Kaito follows up with the police on this clear murder but they're going to rule it as a choking and close the case. Kaito is immediately suspicious and decides to dig deeper.
From there, the plots will grow more complex as always and introduce a cast of delightful villains to fight. The Health Ministry will be involved. The plots will dovetail at the end where Kaito and Yagami (and Sugi and Higashi and Tsukumo on support drones) will kick major ass 🥰
Thematically it'd tackle the further consequences of the Great Dissolution, including some of the shit that happened in IW, and it'd also explore Kaito's inner life a little more. Yagami's side would have him unpacking a lot of what he went through in LJ. And Saori will NOT have to get dressed up as a hostess. But Hoshino will 😈
#man that was fun to think about hehe#Team Yagami and Team Kaito are already a concept I'm using in my fics hehe#Yagami Sugi and Saori are iconic together as we know#and Kaito and Hoshino have a fun dynamic in KF#and Kaito is more...on it with tech than Yagami lmao he'd love Tsukumo's drone attacks and spyware so damn much#much as i want kuwana to return we know rggs wouldn't bring him back#plus we have to pay kimura...yamamoto aint in the budget#thank you for these questions ichi they were so fun to think about 🤌

What can be do to utterly destroy the idea that any episode of Doctor Who that looks good and is well made is inherently bad?
#doctor who#dw#so tired of this take#it is shallow seems driven entirely by a nostalgic misunderstanding#of why the fx from 17 years ago look like they do#it wasn't because the production was badly run#it's because it was 17 years ago on a bbc budget#which still look pretty good at the time#and a major step up from where the show had been 16 years before#of course at the time you had some classic fans complain about the cgi fx ruining the show and taking away its charm#now it has become rtd1 fans#and I'm sure given enough times it will be moffat and chibnall ones#because the show is always going to look better as time goes on#filming tech will improve#but we'll always have people complain that it should look like it did 17 years ago#and not it is all about fxs and production values#sigh
