A California dog trainer and his girlfriend were arrested after at least 10 dogs died in their care

The trainer allegedly attempted to cremate the dogs, prompting suspicion and an animal cruelty investigation

Police are asking other pet owners who used his services and received similar texts to come forward

A California dog owner entrusted a pet to a professional trainer, only to receive a text days later claiming the dog had died unexpectedly in its sleep — prompting immediate suspicion that something amiss had happened.

After the owner contacted police and investigators began digging into the dog trainer, authorities allege they also recognized something was off. The Irvine Police Department said in a news release last Thursday that a local dog trainer and his younger girlfriend had been arrested after it was discovered that at least 10 dogs had died in their care.

The department said Kwong Chun Sit, 53, and his girlfriend Tingfeng Liu, 23, were both arrested and charged with animal cruelty and destruction of evidence last week. The arrests were made “based on suspicious activity after the incident, including the attempted cremation of the dogs,” the release said.

“We are working closely with veterinary professionals who will perform necropsies to determine how the dogs died,” the release added. “Our priority is determining if the death of the dogs was accidental or intentional.”

The Los Angeles Times reported that investigators believe nine of the 10 dogs died on the same day. Irvine police said their detectives “recovered multiple dogs at different crematoriums” around the local area.

Investigators said they believe Sit previously worked with pet owners across Southern California under several different company names, including “Happy K9 Academy.”

Police said in the release that there may be other pet owners who sent their dogs to Sit for training and were later notified via text that their pet had died. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.

Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesperson for the Irvine Police Department, told the Times that while investigators are working to determine whether the dogs’ deaths were accidental or on purpose, Sit is "still responsible for the well-being of these animals."

According to a website listing for Happy K9 Academy in Orange County, Sit charged customers between $1,000 to up to $3,400 for obedience training courses.

PEOPLE has reached out to Sit for comment but did not receive a response Monday.

Jingjing of the Year of the Tiger and Tingfeng of the year of the Dragon.

Jingjing outwardly is very cool and serious but is actually rather shy around anyone who isnt part of the Zodiac, but her stiff socializing combined with her tall stature makes her come off as intimidating. She's a total girly girl deep down but rarely shows it due to her insecurities.

Her weapon is a spear. And im debating between making her fur golden or like... Strait up magenta because this is Lego monkie kind and i can do that if i want. Or maybe red-gold? Cause red for new years? Definitely making her eyes purple tho.

TingFeng on the other hand is serious down to his core. Very much all about the Honor of being a celestial warrior and a member of an exhalted family of divine dragons.

Im debating making him... not really a villain,but just kind of a jerk, specifically to Mei. Since unless im wrong (and i might be) Meis whole extended family of royal sea dragons do have some beef with the Heavenly court, mythologically speaking.

So i can see that resulting in Tingfeng and his family looking down on "lesser" dragons that dont have the favor of the jade court and especially Meis family who are so integrated into human society.

His weapon is dual swords and im once again torn on his coloring. Red or blue scales? Maybe gold? I cant decide i need help. His hair is white and pearly and meant to resemble a cloud tho. Eyes and antlers are gold.

Xiaodan of the Year of the Rabbit and Zihao of the year of the dog!

Xiaodan is the groups resident nerd and knower of random knowledge. Tho this isnt just in a well studied sense. Big rabbit ears hear a lot of gossip in the halls of heaven. If someones talking about it, Xiaodan knows it. Tho he'll keep it to himself till the time is right. Very good at sussing out peoples character just by observing them for a bit. Secretly kind of a menace when he wants to be.

His weapon is a pair of hook swords. His fur and hair are bluish silver with some white and blue markings. His eyes are ice blue.

Zihao is extremely energetic and always ready to get up and go. Wether that entails fighting, exercizing or exploring, it doesnt matter, he wants to do it! Will often drag whoever is available out to do things when he gets bored, which is frequently. Loves a good fight and thinks the best way to get to know someone is fighting them. Very shonen protag energy.

His weapon is a 3 segment staff and his fur is a mix of brown and gold with some white patches. His eyes are reddish brown. He has a scar on his left cheek thats not just a smudge.

Acontece que se Tianfeng ultrapassar certo limite de eletricidade, seu cérebro entra em curto circuito, al��m de que é incapaz de controlar a direção da eletricidade se em descargas muito altas. Também consegue carregar dispositivos eletrônicos.

HEADCANNONS:

Talvez por se identificar com a força mais bruta do que a destreza, Tingfeng acabou sendo muito mais próximo do pai do que da mãe. Assim, também escolheu o Raging Fire e, por mais que Mulan não tivesse ficado lá muito feliz, aquilo não foi surpresa alguma.

Inteligência nunca foi lá o seu forte, e isso explica o motivo de ainda estar no Módulo I... Não é como se ele se esforçasse muito para ter boas notas, também.

Por causa da situação em casa, Tingfeng não é muito adepto a ideia de um amor verdadeiro e eterno, acha que isso é tudo inventado.

Tem medo de usar seu poder e sobrecarregar (mais) seu cérebro, então praticamente só usa pra coisa fraca e boba, tipo carregar seu celular.

Descobriu os dramas chineses do mundo sem magia e não consegue largar deles... só não conta pra ninguém.

Vive visitando o castigo porque é um participante recorrente das lutas clandestinas que acontecem na academia do Gaston. Ele usa uma máscara para não ser reconhecido e um codinome muito discreto: thunderous

Só Merlin sabe quantos neurônios Tingfeng já fritou com sua habilidade e talvez por isso ele seja assim tão… Diferente do esperado para um Li, mas qualquer um que o conhecesse antes de seus 18 poderia dizer facilmente que não foi a eletricidade que o deixou assim.

Num lar onde as brigas eram constantes, mesmo que Mulan e Shang tentassem disfarçar na frente dos filhos, Tingfeng acabou se tornando o alívio cômico, quase que sem querer. É verdade que sempre foi bastante bem humorado, um tanto quanto desastrado e não ligava muito para regras, fazendo com que a junção disso lhe tornasse alguém que trazia as piadinhas para a mesa de jantar ou histórias engraçadas de coisas completamente duvidosas que aconteceram consigo durante o dia e muitas vezes funcionava para distrair o clima tenso que acabava se formando.

Só que ser um Li trazia junto do sobrenome uma pressão para honra, força, destreza, estratégia e inteligência, e Tingfeng sentia isso na pele porque… Bom, porque não tinha nenhuma dessas qualidades. Ele era o palhaço da turma, que não se importava muito com notas, sofria internamente com a situação levemente caótica que se encontrava sua casa, e lhe faltavam algumas ambições. Crescendo, a única coisa que conseguiu desenvolver graças ao treinamento com o pai foi a força bruta, e depois gostar de esportes e de luta virou quase que a única coisa que o distraia dos problemas de casa e da decepção clara que via nos olhos dos outros quando chegava com uma nota baixa ou quando os pais eram chamados na escola porque ele aprontou alguma coisa de novo.

As lutas ilegais se tornaram parte de algumas de suas noites por influencia de alguns amigos e esse até hoje é um dos maiores segredos de Tingfeng. De dia treina no dojo de seu pai e de noite coloca em prática na academia Gaston. Nunca se tratou do dinheiro, e sim da adrenalina que aquilo trazia, da sensação de ser bom em alguma coisa, finalmente, de não ser só o alívio cômico.

Seu ingresso na academia dos legados foi fácil, se pularmos a parte em que ele recebeu seus poderes. A eletricidade que desceu por seu corpo assim que a espada cortou sua mão foi muito mais do que podia aguentar e o choque em si mesmo lhe causou uma espécie de curto circuito e Tingfeng ficou fora de si por algumas horas: acordado, mas com o cérebro funcionando muito mal, fazendo-o ser capaz apenas de sorrir abobado e mostrar um polegar pra cima para indicar que estava “tudo bem”. Mais pra frente, ele descobriu que as descargas elétricas em demasia era algo que podia acontecer frequentemente se não limitasse a própria habilidade para não virar um zumbi sorridente e inofensivo pelas próximas horas. Hoje em dia ele consegue controlar um pouco mais e suportar mais eletricidade do que quando recebeu os poderes, mas ainda é algo que o deixa com medo o suficiente para não usar muito mais do que o suficiente para, por exemplo, carregar seu celular.
