#Tinkering Lab in School Scheme

thought a little too hard about the tags i left on @trainsinanime's "alya salt" post so here's the miraculous grad school chemistry AU that abso-fucking-lutely nobody asked for
marinette's an org chem girlie, because she can effortlessly visualize molecular shapes and has great intuition for how they'd bond together. she draws reaction schemes in her sleep. her work station is a fucking mess and she spends her weekends sleeping at the lab to keep an eye on whatever reaction she's got going
adrien studies physical chemistry and/or or some form of spectroscopy. he'd love the puzzle of interpreting the data AND he would love the hands on aspects of tinkering with the spectroscopy set-ups. also maybe he gets to work with lasers
alya feels like an inorganic chemist to me. she's throwing random combinations of ligands together to see what sticks and she has a niche interest in X-ray crystallography. she and adrien commiserate over learning group theory. also, her and marinette's research groups share the same lab space. and thank god because she's stopped so many of marinette's experiments from exploding
nino's not even in the chem department, he's studying biophysics. but his thesis has to do with the effects of different types of radiation on plant growth, and he has to collaborate with adrien's lab group for spectroscopy reasons
#i'm 100% right and you can't argue with me#mostly because i assume the average person does not know this much about chemistry 😂#but you're all welcome 😌#miraculous ladybug

The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Elseworlds Addendum - Cyborg
Victor 'Vic' Stone iswasthe son of the brilliant scientists Silas Stone and his wife Elinore Stone. Blinded by their ambitions to enhance their discoveries, Victor’s parents subject their son to various procedures to augment his intellect and physical attributes. While these experiments were ultimately successful, young Vic grew to resent his parents and the ways in which they had used him as a test subject for their tinkering. Vic excelled in high school and became a celebrated athlete, yet found himself depressed over how little interest his parents had in his more commonplace interests and achievements.
A lab experiment gone awry caused the death of Vic's mom and Vic himself was severely injured. Desperate to save his son's life, Dr. Stone utilized an experimental cybernetic exoskeleton to sustain Vic. The young man was transformed into a cyborg, equal parts human and machine.
Young Vic was furious and despondent over what has become of his life, the death of his mother, his father’s unscrupulous actions and the loss of his humanity. He slipped into a deep depression yet was shaken out of it when he became aware of a plot to attack the United Nations.
Utilizing the various powers provided by his cyborg form, Vic was able to thwart this scheme and save the delegates who had been attacked. He ended up becoming a member of The New Teen Titans, finding a sense of kinship with fellow outcasts such as Beast Boy and Raven. He took on the code name of ‘Cyborg’ and would go on to serve in multiple iterations of the Titans as well as the Justice League.
Although Cyborg was not a part of the original DCAU, the character featured prominently in Super Friends: Galactic Guardians as well as the Teen Titans animated series, Young Justice and additional animated features (voice by actors Ernie Hudson, Khary Payton, Zeno Robinson and Bumper Robinson respectfully).
Cyborg first appeared in the pages of DC Comics Presents #26 (1980).

introducing @gavinom and I’s DSMP Parahuman AU!! This is a superpowers AU based on Worm, a web serial by wildbow!!
This is a superpowers AU,,, with a VERY complicated story. There are 3 or 4 main POV/plotlines:
Tommy and Tubbo’s plotline
Techno and Phil’s plotline
Dream’s plotline
Wilbur’s plotline
also niki’s plotline bc i appreciate her so much
they’re all very heavily interconnected! There’s a connection chart here, but there’s much more detailed explanations under the cut!
basic worldbuilding info: the city that this story focuses on (Dream SMP) is run by the Dream Team! They’re a group of villains who took over the city after it was being badly mismanaged by corrupt officials. Dream has connections to Cauldron (human experimentation group looking to create artificial powers). SBI + everyone else all live in this city! Powers are common and have a classification system shown below, and people with powers are called Capes! Capes are divided into Heroes, Villains, and Rogues (who are neither heroes or villains). People get powers when they experience an emotionally charged or traumatic event or events called a Trigger Event! These events shape what kind of power the cape gains!
SBI Tommy and Wilbur are both Philza’s biological kids! Philza is a researcher with long hours, Wilbur takes care of Tommy, but all of them have something else going on! ages: Tommy: 16 wilbur: 21 philza minecraft: early 40′s?
PHILZA - Mover 4 Philza is a researcher working for an organization called Cauldron. Cauldron is experimenting on people in order to understand and create powers artificially! As he ends up more and more involved with both the research on powers and the affected people (called Case 53′s), including technoblade, he decides that he cannot tolerate this anymore, and plans to break techno and others out! He steals a vial labelled ‘Zephyrus’, drinks it, and ends up with wings! He and techno break out, unlock a ton of other cells (including Ranboo’s!), and end up on the run. However, both his sons are left behind... After months of being on the run, he and Techno finally decide that it’s safe enough to return. But hang on, why is the house so empty? And did someone just open the door?
Technoblade - Tinker, Brute 3 technoblade is one of Cauldron’s Case 53′s! His power is a Tinker power, which means that he can invent things! However, he can only invent what chat decides is necessary. This is seen as an EXTREMELY overpowered and rare ability. Most Tinkers have some kind of specialty that they’re limited to, or some other restriction that limits their Ability-Driven inventiveness. Techno’s only limit is his Chat, which can be convinced into a certain direction. He also has had a lot of physical changes like gaining claws, tusks, hooves, and a tail! Techno also has increased regeneration and resistance! He’s fiercely overprotective of Phil and the two of them are best friends! After months on the run, he and Phil return to Phil’s home, but something is off... Is that a Tinker’s lab?!
Tommy - Trump 6 and Tubbo - Tinker (Drones), Master 3 Tommy’s plotline is technically our main POV! He really admires his older brother a ton! Philza’s spent a lot of time away from home, so Wilbur ended up looking after Tommy a lot, especially after Phil went missing... wonder where he went? About a month after Phil vanished, Wilbur starts spending a lot of time away from home too, so Tommy spends most of his time with Tubbo! When Tubbo got his powers, it was... not a good day. Tubbo hadn’t been having an easy time at school, and it all kind of... got to be too much, so he triggered. However, they both quickly realized that Tubbo had gotten a Tinker power! He creates and can manipulate Drones without a remote being necessary! The two of them immediately decided to become heroes, and started making costumes and hero names and stopping minor crime! Very quickly though, they got into a situation that was too much for them. Tubbo got badly injured, and Tommy triggered his ability for the first time. Tommy has the ability to boost the abilities of people he cares about! He makes them stronger and loosens some of the restrictions on their powers. Tommy and Tubbo continue trying to be heroes when they come across Ranboo, and take him home with them! Hm? it looks like someone else is inside already, who could that be?
Wilbur - Master 4, Thinker 3 Wilbur is a very charismatic and scheming character! He cares a ton about his family, and does his best to look after Tommy. He’s bitter and angry at Phil for essentially leaving him to take care of Tommy so often, and he triggered after Phil’s funeral, over a month after Phil first vanished. His ability is illusion based! He can project illusions into someone’s mind, and can read people very VERY well. He realizes that his power is definitely a powerful one, and ends up becoming a villain! He goes to Dream, and asks for some territory to prove himself as a leader (and bc villainy is profitable shhh). Dream agrees, and Phantasm becomes leader of a territory called L’Manburg. On his villain team are niki, eret, and fundy! He doesn’t want to involve Tommy or Tubbo in this whole thing, and he has no idea that either of them are Capes. He ends up spending more and more time outside the house and running his territory. Fundy ends up looking up to him as a sort of older brother/father figure, and when Fundy ends up without a place to go, Wilbur sets him up in their villain HQ! When he comes home, he immediately notices something is up. His power had suddenly gotten... stronger? He opens the door and sees...Philza?
Dream - Master 7, Tinker(?), Striker 2 Dream has the power to possess objects that he touches! He uses this + custom Puppets to act as the unkillable leader of the Dream Team! Dream is heavily involved with Cauldron, and personally oversaw Ranboo’s experimentation. He and Philza knew each other as civilians, and he knows that Philza stole a serum from Cauldron, but Phil doesn’t know that he’s Dream, just that he works for Cauldron! Sapnap and George both don’t know about his involvement in Cauldron, though. Dream is looking for Techno, and wants to convince him to get on his side. He has yet to meet someone who can beat him and his ability, after all! That’s part of why he gives Wilbur territory to look after so easily - he’s confident in his ability to take Wilbur down. However, things might be more difficult than he assumes... As a bit of a side note, both Awesamdude and 5up are rogues, but he hires both of them for jobs and such!
OTHER STUFF THAT I HAVEN’T QUITE PLANNED OUT AS MUCH IN DETAIL:
fundy and 5up are in a ML style love square! 5up has a crush on Fundy’s villain identity, while Fundy has a crush on 5up’s civilian identity!
niki and ranboo are siblings! she became a villain with Wilbur to look for him. Ranboo has been missing for a very VERY long time, and doesn’t remember anything before Cauldron!
5up also tends to help out Tommy and Tubbo a lot? He saved them from a situation that was UH.. VERY OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE pretty early on, and decided “welp time to become a big brother”! he’s been teaching them how to fight, and Tubbo is really having fun with it
all the plotlines collide on the same night. Phil and Techno come home at the same night that Tommy and Tubbo are bringing Ranboo home, Wilbur’s been out for the past week and is only now JUST coming home after getting Fundy settled, and none of them know about the other person’s powers at all
it’s CHAOS because Phil’s been assumed dead and has just come back with WINGS and a tall and intimidating Technoblade, who immediately pulls a sword on them, Tommy and Tubbo still are in costume, Ranboo recognizes Techno and Phil as the guys who broke him out, and WILBUR is realizing that he’s missed a hell of a lot
and NO ONE KNOWS that ranboo is the one niki is looking for! not even ranboo
theres like. a whole timeline to this that i still need to draw/write out but TRUST US WE HAVE A PLAN
George is a Precog who gets prophetic dreams! They’re primarily impressions though, and he’s ended up in someone else’s dreams a couple times... If he uses his ability too much, he gets insomnia!
karl and quackity are both there too i just havent planned their part yet!!
sapnap is a high Breaker/Brute/Striker cape, I just haven’t narrowed down the specifics yet!

I remember you telling us, you know quite a bit about all the kiddo’s rooms. Can you describe them for us? And why did Liz wanna rearrange her room? (as mentioned in the silent treatment) Also, You had mentioned chalkboard paint once, and I found that idea so cool😍
Hey there! You send this in about four years ago and I just didn’t have the time to answer when you sent it in and then idk, I just got lazy and let it sit in my inbox for a while...however, here’s your answer, sorry about that. This one is below the cut and I’m warning you it’s loooooong. Sorry lol, I got a lot carried away. I hope it was worth the wait lol. Sorry again.
Before I forget...Lizzie just wanted to rearrange things. Sometimes moving the direction the furniture is facing can help spice things up a bit. If i remember correctly she was 11/12ish during the silent treatment and around that age Arthur pulled out his old desk from storage and put it in her room, so possibly she thought of a better way to rearrange her furniture to put that desk in the place she wanted it?
Liam’s room is like his happy space. There is no theme or reason to anything. It’s all completely random. He’s still got posters and trinkets from his first year attending school and even before that. Alby’s art is plastered on his walls and he has old birthday cards and little notes that he and Alex used to pass back and forth in lessons tacked up on his walls as well. He has repainted it 4ish times since he was eleven and his parents repainted one of the other rooms (the one that would eventually become Alby’s room) and he decided it looked fun and wanted to try it. One time, when he was sixteen, he endured his room being pink for almost three months over the summer because Elizabeth dared him to do it when he was discussing possible color changes and he didn’t have anything else to do that next day (and has absolutely nothing against the color pink) so decided to take everything off his walls and paint them pink just to show her that he would. His room is currently green and the wall that had chalkboard paint on it is accented a darker brown (the green did NOT properly cover up the chalkboard with only two coats and he didn’t have any more green so he had to improvise). For several years he had a whole wall of chalkboard paint (the around his door) and he and Alex were entertained by that for many many hours in their preteen years. He is the only one of the kiddos to have a TV in his room. He didn’t get it until he was thirteen and he had to practically trade away his soul to convince Waverly to allow it, but he and Alex also had a lot of fun playing video games on that throughout the years. He has Theo’s old room, and Theo is very crafty with his hands. When he was younger he installed bookcases into the same wall his two windows are on, so William has bookcases surrounding his two windows that go from his ceiling to his floor. They are covered in books, some of which he will never read but owns anyway simply because he likes the cover and think they look cool. The other furniture in his room doesn’t match all all. Like at all. For the most part that is because he has broken a lot of the pieces that used to match and instead of doing what Waverly wanted to do and reordering the pieces or even picking something that matches the remaining stuff, Liam just picked out things he liked as replacements, even if they clashed with the other things in his room already.
Alex’s room is a bit more themed and put together, but it’s also always messy. It’s not dirty. It’s regularly cleaned and he makes his bed every morning (and if he dared leave food wrappers or any food in his room Waverly would have his head) but it’s cluttered most of the time. He doesn’t really mind if things are on the floor or if his desk is stacked three feet high with different files and textbooks and Lord knows what else. He knows where everything is. He manages to stay ahead with his schoolwork and keep everything straight, so Arthur and Waverly don’t hound him too often to make sure his room is as neat as they would like. His room is pretty typical. It’s painted a dark, navy blue and he has a whole lot of red (his curtains and bed sheets) and grey (his comforter and bean bag) accents. He does have a giant beanbag in the back corner behind his bed that Alby loves to fall asleep in sometimes, though. His bedroom used to belong to Beatrice when she lived in the palace when Arthur was younger, but her pink walls were painted over when he was about one years old and Arthur and Waverly decided to stick him in the room beside William’s. It’s nothing too fancy. William’s room is definitely far more interesting with the built in bookshelves (and wait until you hear about Lizzie’s room...🤭) but it’s his home. That’s his safe space. When he feels like the whole world is against him, the only place he wants to be besides maybe on his piano bench, is his own bedroom.
Elizabeth’s room has changed colors a few times throughout the years too, but it’s stayed purple, just different shades. Her room is across the hall from Liam and Alex’s and on the same side of the quarters as the sitting room, meaning her windows overlook the palace gardens. She has a large, three window set up with a small cushioned seating area that extends out from the wall a little bit. When she was younger she had a few cushions and a mattress pad there and her and Alex would have sleepovers in her room all the time. They would look up at the stars and she would try to point out constellations. Now, that mattress pad is used every once in a while for Alby if he wants to spend the night in her room, but more often it’s tucked away and she just uses the area to sit on her laptop or read. In the corner she has a large corner desk with a desktop computer with two monitors. She doesn’t have a TV, and she doesn’t really need one because she has a pretty sweet set up there. Her desk belonged to Arthur when he was younger (no, none of the children are in his old bedroom. Too many unhappy memories. That’s used as a guest bedroom now, and only if there are too many guest to fill up the other two rooms) and still has his initials carved into the corner from when he got bored and engraved them one day when he was about twelve with an old key he found. Her room is more themed than Liam’s, her furniture matches, even Arthur’s desk fits in really well with the other black pieces, but there isn’t really a color scheme or anything. Lizzie doesn’t really care about that. She just fills it with things she likes. Oh, she also has a blacklight in her room and an epic solar system hanging from her ceiling as well as markers that she can draw all over that massive window with. When she was home full time it used to be schedules and count downs until special dates and to do lists. Now it’s not quite as busy as it used to be and more often than not the windows can actually be seen out of because they aren’t covered in marker...but every once in a while she’ll feel a sudden urge to draw on them again and fill them with chemistry or math or biology...or even music.
Alby’s room is stand alone and surprisingly the farthest away from Arthur and Waverly’s because he was born last. He is on the same side of the hall as Lizzie, but he does not have the room connected to hers. He’s actually one more down. ((Oh, this is actually relevant so let me talk about it for a moment...The room that is connected to Lizzie’s is currently used as a lab or sorts for her. She has all kinds of old technology in it that she tinkers with a lot, it’s pretty empty and none of the others are jealous that she has the extra room or anything. They do call it Lizzie’s “lab” though sometimes, and there is a proper key to it that she has and she regularly locks it when she doesn’t want Alby to go in and touch anything she’s working on.)) His room is still really kid-ish. He has toys and a little chair that hangs from his ceiling that he can sit in when he reads. His room doesn’t have the same bay window that Lizzie’s does. He doesn’t spend a lot of time in his room. He’s almost always in one of his siblings’ rooms or he’s lugged a handful of toys down to the sitting room/Arthur’s study/wherever someone else is to sit and quietly play near them. He doesn’t really like to be alone, and his room reflects that. There isn’t a lot of personalized things in his room, instead he likes to leave an impression on the other rooms of the house (leaving drawings on the walls in Liam’s room, pictures on Lizzie’s windows when she lets him use her markers, and leaving stuffed animals and small toys on the shelf where Alex’s stuffed crocodile spends his lonely days now that he’s a teenager and he doesn’t play with him anymore). No one seems to mind, in fact, William regularly tells him when he’s away at school that he wants a whole new set of pictures hanging in his room for him when he gets home to help keep the baby busy. Alby has his own shelf full of books that has slowly started to overflow as his siblings slowly hand the boy more and more books to read. His favorite toy when he was younger, and to this day, is trains. He looooooves trains. So if his room has any theme in the chaos it’s definitely trains. He has those stickers on his walls of little cartoon trains and he almost always has some giant town built with the little wooden train sets across the back half of his room on the floor. His parents gave up trying to make him clean those up every night a long time ago. Some battles just aren’t worth fighting, especially when one little town of his creation could keep him occupied for days.
I don’t know if you meant Elaina too but you’re going to get her because I’m on a roll at this point, lol. Elaina’s room is...well kind of boring. And she hasn’t had too much freedom to change anything either which kind of stinks. She has Brielle’s old room and it is exactly how you would expect a princess’s room to look. Light baby pink walls. Her furniture is white. It’s adorable. She HATES it. I mean, I shouldn’t say it like that, it’s her room and she likes it because it’s her space. But she doesn’t like how it looks. She doesn’t really like how it looks like a nursery (because it kind of does) but her parents aren’t really feeling the whole re-painting thing and her furniture belonged to her grandmother and so it’s staying in the family and she can’t get rid of that either. She really loves all three of the English kids’ rooms. They all are a little darker and the paint and the colors are cooler and not as bright and blinding as her pink and white. She is just a touch jealous that despite Arthur and Waverly’s dictaror-ish tendencies, they let their kids decorate their rooms how they want. She’s an artist, as you all know and she loves to sketch and paint and draw. At one point when she was about 11 or 12, I forget exactly but it’s written so perhaps I could share it one day, she used a sketching pencil to draw this really pretty floral design down the side of her nightstand and her parents saw it and lost their shit (old family antiques are not for drawing on, Elaina. You know better!). She hasn’t dared try to do that again, but she’s also always wanted to get all new white furniture and paint over it and cover it in her own drawings. One day she promises herself that she will. In the meantime, she has one single poorly shaded drawing on her nightstand that she managed to convince her parents to let her keep and not erase.
That was a LOT. However...sprinkled in there is a few really relevant pieces of information. The story arch I am currently working on directly involves some of this information and you know how my brain is...I can’t think of anything without figuring it out for everyone...so you’ll see some of this brought up in the actual story again too, eventually.

Tony Stark Bingo Prompt Meme
So, we did another Prompt Meme game, and came up with these summaries based on a three-tag prompt. This is an open prompt, if any of these summaries look like fun to you, please feel free to write them!! Tag us or the writer of the prompt when you do so we can all see how cool you are and what you’ve given us for the promot
@summerpipedream - Winteriron - All Tony wanted to do after finishing up at MIT was to pack up his desk at Stark Industries and quietly fade into obscurity. Sure money was tight, but he never expected Jan to actually sign him up for one of those social media reality shows. Now, he was stuck in a house, with no phone, no internet, or access to the outside world, trying to avoid the sexy Bucky Barnes, who's mission in life seemed to be to never wear a shirt around him.
@darthbloodorange - The world is ending, an alien race has all but taken over the world, it is an apocalypse of devastating proportions, most of the world is dead. The Avengers, those who are left, have retreated to a bunker built a fourth of the way down into the Earth’s core. Tony and Steve have been growing closer, when they are not working together to find a way to fight back against the aliens, they are fuck buddies. Tony’s a genius, he knows the odd of surviving this are not in their favour. Odds were that they were going to die… and well, Tony doesn’t want to die without letting Steve know how he feels. Before the battle Tony corners Steve in the armoury and confesses that he loves him. Steve is aromatic, has been since project rebirth. They are both so very sorry.
@newnewyorker93 - After a series of strange killings where the victims are found set up kneeling like they're praying, Tony Stark (a private detective) is on the case. An initial (false) suspect is the local priest, Matt Murdoch, who ends up being a helpful ally in solving the case (and possibly more)
@27dragons - Winteriron: You'd think that Tony Stark would have learned to ski when he was growing up. You'd think wrong; Howard never saw the point in it. So here he is, almost done with his PhD, and his friends have decided on a spring break trip to go skiing. He doesn't want to admit to them that he doesn't know how, so their first night at the lodge, he offers one of the ski instructors a large sum of money to sneak him up onto the slopes for a few lessons that night. Against his better judgment -- but desperately needing the cash -- Ski instructor Bucky Barnes takes Tony up on the slopes. Unfortunately, just as Tony's starting to get the hang of things, it starts snowing. Hard. Even more unfortunately, the newfallen snow disguises a patch of ice and Tony tumbles out of control. By the time Bucky catches up to him and verifies that he's not badly hurt, the snow is coming down too hard to see the lodge -- so what else are they to do but seek shelter in a caretaker's cabin conveniently (TM) nearby and wait for morning...?
@gavilansblog - Tony is kidnapped as part of an Evil Plot (TM). He's handling things just fine, tyvm, until his would-be rescuer (who he's been pining for, obviously), gets dragged in and handcuffed back to back with him. Seriously, dude? If you insist on breaking the kidnapping procedure at least actually rescue me! The taxes come in when the Evil Plot Master does his monologue and reveals that the kidnapping is part of a Villain Logic scheme to get Stark Industries to throw money behind the campaign to get a new law requiring actually taxing billionaires to fail. Evil Plot Master is, naturally, a billionaire. Tony would facepalm if he weren't handcuffed to his idiot rescuer, seriously. And then the kidnapping protocol kicks in and Jarvis shuts the whole facility down only instead of being handcuffed by himself Tony is now handcuffed to his rescuer so they have to do the whole escaping part of the plan while handcuffed together, resulting is the standard Tension (TM) moments and possibly an almost-kiss.
Fey Relay - Bruce, Tony, and Peter, resident science geeks, get de-aged and really want to play in the lab. You know, the one that has lots of things that can kill them in it? But they're still sort of mentally in there, just cranky and smol. So they get assigned their own Non-Science Adults who they hand-hold and point to do their sciency bidding. Thor, Steve, and Natasha oblige them and have great fun!
@rise-up-ting-ting-like-glitter Dragons were real. Okay they were actually just souped-up dinosaurs, but that didn’t mean Tony wasn’t being hunted—with intent—by lizards. He hadn’t wanted to come to this stupid Island in the first place. SI funding had explicitly been removed from the crackpot idea to return dinosaurs to the food chain. He could have told everyone that this was going to happen. Instead he was climbing through a jungle with a one-armed man who refused to give his name and if they didn’t get to the raptor enclave, retrieve the anti-venom, and return in time, people Tony loved were going to die.
His guide had better live up to his scruffy wild-man appearance or Tony was going to lose everything.
@somesortofitalianroast - Nurse Bucky Barnes wasn’t sure what exactly was going on. The vigilante known as Nomad had just crashed through the (luckily) open fire escape window. While he was lucky not to have any broken bones, he was unlucky enough to have a bad concussion. A really bad one. One that meant he couldn’t fall asleep. Also unfortunately, he only had the one bed and the enormous Nomad wouldn’t fit on his couch, so they’d have to share. It was only after he helped Nomad into his bed that he noticed the blood, and, unthinking, he pulled the cowl off to check for another, serious injury. And gasped. Nomad was Steve Rogers, his best friend in school, who’d died in an IED attack in Iraq 5 years earlier.
@polizwrites Natasha Romanov and Virginia Potts are the proprietors of Chaykus - a Russian tea room on the seedy side of town. Its new mission is to be a sanctuary for women who have been smuggled into the country for sex trafficking purposes. As for the men who engage in such practices? Well, they are quickly discovering that their days are numbered.
@dixiehellcat - Pepper is the manager of the heavy metal band War Machine. James Rhodes, lead guitarist and founder of the band, is looking for a new lead singer. He did not expect the woo-loving Virginia to get horoscopes cast for the applicants and decide based on that. He just wants somebody who can sing, dammit. This Stark kid is uncomfortably attractive, yeah, but he's been thrown out of two bands already. what? the shower sex? it was only that one time after a show, and they were both wasted...
@dracusfyre Tony was born without a soul mark. Bucky's was lost forever when Hydra took his arm. Without the universe to give you a hint that this person is The One, falling in love is gambling with your heart. But soulmates don't have to be born, they can be made - and Bucky and Tony decide that the same should be true of soul marks, as well
@ceealaina Tony was like nerd prime growing up. Normally he doesn’t let it bother him too much — he’s got inventions to invent, after all. But all of a sudden he realizes that he’s almost 20, he’s got two degrees under his belt, and has no idea how to do much more than kiss. He’s not entirely sure how he manages to convince Rhodey to sleep with him to “get it out of the way,” or how he manages to convince him to keep sleeping with him to “help improve my technique,” but it’s the best sex of his life (not that he has much to compare it to) and he never wants it to end. But it’s the night when they’re watching movies, and Tony’s ends up dozing against Rhodey’s shoulder only to wake up to a feather light kiss against his forehead that he realizes he might be in trouble.
@thudworm - King Anthony considers it part of his royal duties to protect his people by going out and taking care of any monsters harassing them. Of course, no one can know that the knight Iron Man is really the king, which leads to some fun assumptions about Iron Man’s identity.
@jacarandabanyan Tony’s mom forbid him to purposefully drive out his roommates so that he can have a room all to himself where he can tinker until morning light. She had to hear about it from friends, acquaintances, and other well-known socialites often enough when Tony went to boarding school and ran his roommates off there. Now that he’s in college, that behavior must stop. Luckily for Tony, he doesn’t even have to try to get the first two roommates at MIT to request a room switch. But then he meets his third roommate- a tall, handsome, funny man named James Rhodes. At first it was just natural joy at having a fellow competent engineer to hang out with, and perhaps the occasional dirty thought. But his crush on the man quickly grows. Before he knows it, Tony’s pining hard for his best friend. Every once in a while he thinks Rhodey might be interested too- but then he hears Rhodey lecturing a computer science senior for plying Tony with  alcohol at a party because “come on, man, kid’s only 16. Have a little class and try chasing skirts a little closer to your age.” After that, he’s convinced Rhodey will only ever see him as a friend and a kid.
psychiccatpanda - Tony works hard and puts in long hours. So what if some of his long nights turn into very early mornings at CHew 2 OH. The only drawback is his business partner and head baker, Steve, with his disappointed looks and his continual arguing. When Steve's friend Bucky starts hanging around the shop, though, Tony notices. Oh lord, he notices. A month or so later, one night when he and Steve are working after hours at Steve's place to plan their seasonal menu, Steve tells him that he's noticed him checking out Bucky. Tony hits him with a decorative pillow and things kind of get out of hand. Surveying the damage (let's face it - Steve's coffee table was never going to be quite right again), Steve turns to him, "I was just going to suggest you get some practice kissing before asking him out." Oh. Oh...
@tisfan So... the problem with being a necromancer is being able to practice one's skill. The local cemeteries won't even let you look at a dead body if you're not a relative. Tony Stark, budding necromancer, forges a marriage certificate for the John Doe so that he can practice his craft. Only to find that it works perfectly. Bucky is No Longer Dead, and 100% interested in staying married...
@abrighterdarkness He didn’t mean to snoop. He knew that wasn’t what he was being paid for here--the loud laughter of the party echoing from down the hall where he was actually supposed to be, was clear enough reminder of that fact. All Tony wanted was two short minutes to breathe without being pawed at--yes, yes, that might be his job but breathing room was much appreciated just the same--and now he was stuck in this closet sized bathroom with what sounded like a mob-hit being discuss right outside the door. He knew he should’ve turned this job down.
magica - Howard Stark had an idea. Some people - alright, most people, stop hitting me, Maria! - would say it was a terrible idea. But it was only a little injection of stuff based on that strange glowing blue cube they'd found in the Arctic. And Tony was absolutely willing, let's get that straight, Maria! How was Howard supposed to know that it'd enable Tony to open up his own portals? And if some mystical green energy happened to swamp Tony just as he was opening a portal to Egypt? Well, that wasn't his fault. The dark-haired, well-built Priest of Anubis that Tony manages to bring back with him? That is not his fault either, damn it, Maria!
@festiveferret - Tony could say with absolute confidence - at least, if he could say anything at all in his current predicament - that this was not the way his PR rep, Pepper, would have wanted him to come out. There were, he figured, several hundred ways that the day could have gone better, but if asked to rank the top three, he'd put them thusly:
1) That he decided to come out by having a wild, unabashed make out session with none other than Captain America, in the middle of a busy New York street.
2) That it was, in fact, the morning after their first "date" - a term he was applying loosely here - and not a tasteful reveal of a long-standing, safe, secure, adult relationship.
And 3) That at some point between the first floor lobby of his apartment building and the front door off his penthouse suite he'd suddenly, unexpectedly, and so-far permanently been turned into a ferret and no one knew.
It would also probably concern her to discover that of all these rather bewildering turns in his life, the one at the forefront of his mind was that ferrets couldn't send morning-after texts, and he didn't want Steve to think their little dalliance had been nothing more than an - albeit unfortunately public - one night stand.
Of one thing he was sure, however: Pepper was going to need a raise.

Alright, dazzit, Im fleshing out this au a lil more.
-Maybe the jocks arent all just jock. Maybe theyre just preps?
- Idk about Adora being goth then turning jock, I think I'm feeling more her and Catra were bffs that did everything together, but were put in different classes. Adora started making more friends with the preps, and Catra beinf jealous and petty, took it terribly and joined the goths.
-Catra is the one that conjures the most schemes/pranks to annoy the preps, but she needs Hordak back because the jocks fear him.
-Hordak's dad/older brother, Prime, is the principal(?) Which is how he gets away with a lot of things, including terrorizing other kids.
-Shadow Weaver is a teacher (maybe English?) and her classroom is where the goths hang out because Hordak has some dirt on her he could expose to Prime.
-Hordak is always overshadowed by Prime. Prime used to always win competitions, etc., and the few times Hordak tried, he'd always fail to be first place. An inferiority complex grew, and although he continues experimenting and building things, he hides it from everyone, and never joins anymore competitions because he's afraid of failing again.
-He does most of his tinkering im his house, but sometimes needs tools from school, so he brings his creations there to fix after-school.
-Enter Entrapta who has to pick up a tool she left behind to work on her bot Emily, finding him trying, failing, and throwing a tantrum, not knowing what he's doing wrong.
-She curiously picks up his creation while he's having his fit and is in awe of it, inspecting it thoroughly. He realizes she's there and tries to take his invention back, but she's quick, and dodges his every move.
-As she moves around, shes fixing the invention and talking about how amazinf it is, Hordak meanwhile is threatening her with suspension for theft. She gives it back better than ever and nonchalantly pats his head, praisinf him on his clever craftsmanship, then she dawdles away with the tool she needed.
-Hordak is left ticked off that someone discovered him, but impressed that she fixed it and even made it better. Then he realizes he never told her to keep her mouth shut, and comes back the next day to threaten her into doing so.
-She's busy workinf on Emily, but when she hears his voice, she stops, cuttinf him off in the middle of his threats, and grabs him. "Oh, I'm so glad you came! I had this idea and you're the only one I know who has an eye for stuff like this!" She rants to him about her next project, and he oddly bounces back with his thoughts. Entrapta is thrilled that she has someone to talk robotic engineering with, and when the brainstorming is finally over, she asks him what he was gonna tell her before.
-He relaizes he lost himself in the conversation, and tries to intimidate her into staying silent again, but she just laughs it off and tells him she thinks its weird that someone so talented can be so self conscious about his skill.
-Cue being flustered and yelling, "W-Whatever! Just dont tell anyone- Or else!" then he stomps out of the classroom.
-He keeps telling himself that's that, problem solved, he never needs to run into her again, but he keeps thinking more and more about how fun it was to brainstorm with her, how interesting her bot was, and when he's stuck on how to progress with his, he defeatedly returns to the classroom to ask for her opinion.
-Tsundere Hordak is tsundere. Even after getting her input, he keeps making uo excuses to come back to the lab. "I-Im only here because I'm stuck and your bot seems to be doing a lot better." "I left my tool here yesterday!" "I just wanted to make sure you took my advice."
-Eventually, Entrapta stops him and tells him that it's ok to come in anytime, no excuses needed. She's always grateful to have him around. He is very much embarrassed and in denial of making excuses, but never makes em again.
-Eventually they get close enough to talk about their personal lives. Hordak opens up about why he hides his creations, and Entrapta gives him the old, Imperfection is beautiful speech that makes him realize, "Oh shit I think i like her more than a lab partner."
-Her speech also comes with the encouragement to join the next competition with her so they can win scholarships to the most prestigious robotics college, and he agrees.
-Now cue Catra, building up hatred for Adora more and more, realizing that without Hordak's imposing threat, she can't torment them as well as she'd like. Maybe she wants to have Adora suspended to blemish her perfect record? Idk, some dumb thing tbat woukd end in Adora not getting the scholarship she needs to a better school to go with Glimmer and Bow,and if she fails to get in, she'd likely go to the community college Catra's going to.
From here on out, im getting tired and cant think of anything plausible Catra could do to sabotage Hordak and Entrapta's chances of winning. Maybe she kidnaps Entrapta on the day of, making her miss it, and Hordak lose on account of both partners needing to be there? Oof. Idk. Any ideas to expand are welcome :'D

wow so many
frost - if you could give some advice to your younger self, what would you say?
hmm. get a diagnosis for ur mental illnesses and learning difficulties as soon as u get to college, go get treatment instead of using them as an excuse to not be a better student and all-round person. also, pls understand that some ppl are thoroughly bad. like to the bone. some ppl like to destroy things for fun n it wouldn’t have mattered if they’d grown up in a happier family. this is probably the more important piece of advice because it would’ve saved me from a so-called friendship that ended up ruining my life
fireside - if you had your dream wardrobe, what would it look like?
probably something inspired by the winter landscapes i saw far up north. muted palette, no prints or graphics, more fitting pants but looser tops. maybe a couple of traditional chinese and japanese men’s outfits with the same kind of color scheme
cider - a food that you disliked as a child but now enjoy?
tomatoes. lol so once my mom pointed at another kid at a restaurant and was like “see? he’s eating everything on his plate.” and obviously this was a very gentle n subtle admonishment. but i was very competitive when i was young. so i gave this kid a baleful look and was inwardly like U THINK UR BETTER THAN ME? i have a memory of sitting in front of a plate of sliced tomatoes in the living room while my mom was at work, repeating to myself “i will like tomatoes. i love tomatoes”. and well. i ended up liking tomatoes very much lol so i guess it worked
amber - share an unpopular opinion that you may have.
thanks to stupid movies and exploitative articles such, a lot of young ppl think that when the time comes it will be a given that they lay their lives down for who/what they love. some of u will fail. hope u will not be too hard on urself. the terror of death (dying in a lot of pain especially) is very powerful. what might happen is a reflex just as much as ur knee jerking. that’s why ppl sacrificing themselves is something so terrible and beautiful. because it overrides one of the most powerful instincts in the human brain. don’t let media make u think it’s some kind of common thing.
orchard - share one thing that you’d like to happen this autumn.
i’d like for it to keep raining until november. nothing too heavy tho msians suffer badly when floods come round
bonfire - describe your dream house.
a lot of wood and nice small ceramics. i like the ones where the focus is their form. earthy tones for everything, a lot of negative space... kind of that stereotypical scandinaviany japanesey look, but of course some really ugly and ridiculous cushions in the living room. cute stuff hanging out everywhere too n also a little lab/studio where i can tinker around and make all kinds of stuff. big and well-equipped kitchen also
cobweb - (if you’ve graduated) do you miss high school?
nah not really. i remember most of it being lonely, and i was bored by every single subject except english. i do miss some of my teachers though
maize - share the weirdest encounter you’ve had with a stranger on the street.
not on the street, but someone at a hostel in montana tried to induct me into a cult. they rang up their cult leader to talk to him about me and even gave me a special er, cult name. i’ve forgotten what it is lol
pumpkin - do you think that humans are inherently good or bad?
neither! they’re just human.
thanks rob

Fund
Summary: Peter overshares. Tony oversteps. Things spiral from there.
Or Tony holds Peter’s college fund over his head and Peter doesn’t get into MIT.
As always, it’s on Ao3!
Author’s Note: Inspired by Running by Builder, specifically Tony's line, "I’ll go flush your college fund down the toilet while I’m at it," and also I'm a sucker for an angsty argument. Definitely check it out!
Also, I haven’t written all summer so... sorry?
The world goes out of focus. The Stark lab fades at the edges. The device he’s been tinkering with blurs. Everything appears as if under a gray film. All Peter can think about is that number, bold on the top of his English grade report for senior year.
78.
Not failing, not even really close to failing, but the worst grade Peter has had all year, the worst grade he’s ever had in a class his entire life. He can’t even pin it down to one assignment. He’s just been regularly scoring low on his essays. Not many people in the class get 90s on the essays but even compared to everyone else, Peter’s have been… lower.
He’s not disappointed necessarily. He knows he’s been working as hard as he can. He knows there are bigger things in the world than English class. (Spider-man. The Avengers. Actually saving people’s lives.) But now that he has to get the proof signed by May, he feels shame seep into him. And he knows that’s exactly what it is. Shame.
He’s ashamed over a tiny number that, against the grand scheme of things, is inconsequential, and he’s angry at himself for feeling ashamed, and his anger is almost always badly channeled frustration, and when he’s frustrated, he cries.
Which is exactly why he’s staring into space, trying to will away the tears collecting in his eyelashes.
He takes a deep breath as slowly as he can. Tries to exhale evenly. He brings up a hand to shield his eyes and hide them from where Tony sits a few seats down.
The 360 degrees cameras don’t help. Neither does FRIDAY’s watchful eye.
Red text scrolls across the screen in front of Tony. Peter’s gaze flicks over to the light.
Peter seems to be in distress, it reads.
Tony immediately swivels to face him and Peter stiffens, angling his back towards the adult. Peter sucks in a breath and grips the collar of his shirt, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible as he wipes away the tears.
“Hey kid,” Tony calls. Peter hums and nods. He doesn’t turn around. “All good in the hood over there?”
“Yep.” And yep, nope, that definitely did not help his case, not with that choked voice.
“Mm, sure about that, bud?”
Peter swallows down mucus and clears his throat. “Sure, Mr. Stark.”
“Yeah, that’s what I want to hear except I don’t really believe you so-” Tony starts rolling his chair towards Peter. “Here I come.”
Peter huffs out a laugh at the sight. “Are you scooting over to me, Mr. Stark?”
“Don’t be a smartass. Scooting is the most practical way to move in these chairs, I’ll have you know,” Tony says as he stops in front of Peter. “Now come on, out with it. What’s up?”
Peter’s smile dies out and Tony’s follows suit.
“It’s really stupid. Honestly, it’s really dumb.” Peter twists his fingers together.
“Peter, I’m sure it’s not. And even if it is, I still want to hear about it.”
“Right, okay, so… Yeah, well… I’m…” Peter’s nose scrunches before he gives a sigh. “I have a 78 in my English class. A 78 percent. It’s so bad, I mean…” He groans, hand rubbing down his face. “I guess it’s not that bad. It’s not like I’m failing or anything but it’s just really frustrating, you know? Well, you probably don’t know, you’ve been a genius since you were born. And I don’t want to make excuses, right? But it’s just hard being Spider-man and all the school work and she just- my teacher, I mean- she grades so hard. I keep offering to do extra credit for her but she says you get what you get or you shouldn’t write your papers last minute or whatever. But I’m not! I’m putting in so much work and she’s ignoring that I’m even trying. You know?”
Tony doesn’t interrupt, only nods along. His gaze is thoughtful.
Peter fidgets. He maintains a scant few seconds of quiet before he breaks again. “And I just… I don’t want to tell May. I know I have to but…” Peter fixes his eyes on the floor as they begin to water. “I’m supposed to be the smart one. That’s what her and Ben used to call me. Their smart boy. Their brilliant boy. She was so proud when I got into Midtown and… and this is just so dumb.”
Peter blinks, tears in his eyelashes. He swipes at them with the heel of his palm.
“Sounds like this teacher is a real piece of work,” Tony finally contributes.
“Yeah.” Peter gives a shaky smile. “You could say that.”
“Tell you what.” Tony puts a hand on Peter’s shoulder. “Have a good time this weekend. Go out with your friends, party, what you millenials get up to. Go back to school on Monday with a clear head. Things will work themselves out.”
“Okay,” Peter agrees, though he doubts things will simply work themselves out. Tony grins back at him.
“Great. Now let’s get back to work.”
Peter walks into English on Monday to find a substitute teacher. He doesn’t think on it until Ned leans over across his desk and whispers, “I don’t think Ms. Jones is coming back. I heard Flash say the school fired her over some stuff they found on her computer.”
First comes the guilt, sweeping down into his gut. And then Peter can’t help it. His blood boils.
“Mr. Stark!”
Peter swings through the open door of Tony’s penthouse balcony. Tony looks up from his coffee and tablet at the kitchen table, eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Wasn’t expecting you today, kiddo. What you visiting me up here on cloud 9 for?”
Peter rips his mask off, fuming, “You got my teacher fired!”
“Did I?” Tony takes a sip of his coffee. “Certainly no one’s going to be able to trace anything back to me or FRIDAY, so who can say, really? And so there’s no way anyone can blame you, so don’t even worry about it. You’re welcome.”
“No!” Peter’s hands clench into fists. “I can’t believe you- you- I may not have liked her but she wasn’t a bad teacher, okay? She didn’t deserve to be fired!”
“Look, kid, it’s not like I discredited her. I can help her find a job, if it’s bothering you that much. Hell, I could get her a job at Stuyvesant.” Tony stands up and Peter tenses before realizing Tony’s only putting his mug in the sink. “She was giving you a hard time. Why are we even having this conversation?”
“Because you can’t get everything you want, just because you have the money or just because you can! You can’t just tamper with my life without telling me!” His hands clench into fists. “You can’t ruin other people’s lives because I say something to you! It’s not your job!”
“It’s not like I’m doing this for shits and giggles, kid. I’m doing this for you. She may not know you’re Spider-man, but I sure as hell do, and I’m not going to let some pretentious old lady give you a 78 while you’re out saving New York.” Tony’s fiery gaze lands on Peter. “I’m sure she got plenty of satisfaction wracking up red marks on your papers, so what’s the problem if I get some satisfaction from knocking her down a few pegs?”
Peter scowls. “Is that what this is about? Satisfaction? Is this even about me at all?”
“Of course it is, Peter. She’s not going to give you a hard time anymore, is she? As far as I’m concerned, that’s problem solved.” Tony wipes his hands together, like he’s free of the matter.
“That’s not the point,” Peter growls.
Tony sighs, clearly aggravated as he runs a hand through his hair and asks, “Then what is the point?”
“The point,” Peter screams, “is that you’re not my dad!”
“Oh, that’s the point, is it?” Tony’s eyes narrow. “Well, I hate to break it to you, son,” he spits the word. “But I might as damn well be. Sure, I’m not in bed with your Aunt May-”
“Don’t-” Peter doesn’t get to finish.
“-but who do you think is paying your aunt’s raise, huh? You think that’s the hospital, rewarding her years of hard work? Where do you think that extra cash for your debit card is coming from? What about your tax refunds for this last year? Who do you think paid the medical bills when Aunt May had to get extra shots?” Tony steps towards Peter as he rants, growing louder with every word.
Peter takes a hesitant step back.
“And don’t even get me started on how much money I’ve poured into your college fund because I know you’re smart, Peter, invented that web fluid yourself and all, but come on. I know you wanna go to MIT. College don’t pay for itself. So yeah,” Tony flings out his arms. “I’m not your dad. I’m not even your Uncle Ben. But you better believe I’m acting like it.”
“So I’m supposed to thank you?” Peter scoffs. “All of that is just money. You can’t buy yourself a family.”
“I am not-”
“And I don’t even want your stupid money! I didn’t ask for it, did I? You can flush my college fund down the drain for all I care! I won’t use it anyway! I don’t need you!” Peter’s shaking but he holds his ground.
Tony’s voice is flat, even, as he replies, “You don’t want my help. You don’t want my money. Fine.” His face hardens. “But don’t come crying to me when you’re looking for a new sugar daddy.”
“I won’t,” Peter snarls, throwing his mask back on.
He doesn’t look back.
Peter sends in his scores. He sends in his resume. He sends in his supplements.
He doesn’t send in that recommendation letter Mr. Stark always promised.
It’s not like the movies anymore, big envelopes coming in the mail and elation before the package is even opened. Getting the decision letter is a process now. It’s waiting for the college to email when the results are finally released and logging into the admissions portal and waiting for the screen to load at 6:28 while 20,000 candidates try to get their results.
They say you should be alone when you receive your decision.
Peter is inordinately glad he is. Because he reads the words, Dear Peter, I am very sorry- and he loses it a little bit.
It’s a little bit of his heart stuttering and a little bit of his breath catching and a little bit of a burn in his eyes.
He skims the letter, bites his lip, and reads it three more times.
Mr. Stark will be so disappointed in him. Embarrassed by him.
No.
Peter slams his laptop shut. Mr. Stark won’t even know this happened. They haven’t talked since the fight and after all, if there ever really was a college fund, it was clearly intended for Peter to attend MIT. Which he will not be doing.
He should have let Mr. Stark write the recommendation. But if he needed the recommendation to get in and he couldn’t do it on his own merit, maybe he shouldn’t be admitted at all.
Getting in on his own merit? It’s not like the admissions committee knows he’s Spider-Man and for a completely irrational moment, Peter is seized by the regret that he didn’t write that in his supplements. That he should have disclosed his formulas for webs, his designs for web shooters, his secret identity.
It’s easy to turn away Peter Parker but Spider-Man? They would have-
Peter shakes his head, pushing his laptop towards the end of his bed with his feet. He curls up in his hoodie, not even bothering with the bed sheets. He stoically ignores Aunt May when she knocks on his door with dinner.
He doesn’t raise his head again until May eases into his room with a plate of cookies. She nudges at his shoulder, murmuring, “I know you want one, Peter.”
The smell, fresh baked and chocolatey, finally gets him.
He sits up and May’s face softens as she takes in his red and swollen eyes. Peter takes a cookie with a small thanks and chews it as slowly as he can. It hurts to swallow past the thickness in his throat.
Peter takes another bite. Chews. Swallows.
“I didn’t get in.”
“Oh, Pete,” May sighs. She runs a hand down his arm with a sad smile. “I know that was your dream school, but it’s so hard to get into those kinds of colleges. Hardly anyone makes it in! It doesn’t mean you’re not a brilliant kid. There’s no way to know what kinds of things they’re looking for.”
“I know. I know it was long shot but-” Peter chokes. “Mr. Stark got in when he was fifteen. And I couldn’t even… I couldn’t even…”
“Oh, baby.” May pulls him to her chest and he resists for a second before giving in, leaning into her. She doesn’t say anything about his heaving breaths or dripping tears.
The first of May rolls around. Peter makes a decision. It’s a decision made out of partiality. It’s also a decision made out of finance.
He doesn’t regret his final choice. He just wishes he had more options.
He just wishes he could get over the sting of rejection as he commits to somewhere to spend the next four years of his life.
Summer is almost here. Peter has his graduation robes, his cap, his tassels.
It’s been months since he last talked to Mr. Stark. Like a hole in his heart, Peter misses him. He still pictures Mr. Stark in the bleachers with Aunt May as he walks out to receive his diploma. He thinks of the proud smile he so desperately wants to see and he thinks of the taste of failure bitter in his mouth.
He owes it to Mr. Stark, to himself, to invite him to the graduation. But that means that he’ll have to break the news.
Peter’s key card still works at the Avenger’s Tower. As he rides the elevator to the penthouse, his ribs tighten in anticipation of pain. They left off on such a bad note and then Peter let him down-
He didn’t let anyone down. May keeps reminding him of that.
(He doesn’t know why he’s not over it. Why isn’t he over it yet?)
The elevator dings. The doors slide open. Mr. Stark is sitting at the counter, exactly as Peter left him months ago, tablet and coffee in hand. Their eyes lock.
Mr. Stark murmurs, “I didn’t believe FRIDAY when she said it was you.”
“I- I, um-” Peter nods, looking to the ceiling as pressure builds behind his eyes and warns of tears.
Tony’s voice as he stands is soft, soothing. Forgiving. “I missed you too, kid.”
Tears drip down Peter’s face and he runs over to hug Tony. “I missed you,” he cries into his shoulder.
They stand there for a long while until Peter’s sobs die down. He keeps his face hidden in Tony’s shirt and squeezes his eyes shut. “I just- I have to tell you. I didn’t get into MIT,” he whispers into the fabric.
“You didn’t get in?” Tony sounds shocked. “I can… I can write to them. I could make them change the decision. I’m their biggest donor, they would have to-”
Peter tenses but doesn’t pull away. “No, Mr. Stark,” he says firmly. He lifts his head to meet Tony’s gaze. “If I didn’t get in, I didn’t get in. And that’s… that’s okay.”
“I… Right, of course it’s okay but…” Tony pauses. He blinks. “This is… I don’t want to lose you again, Peter. I don’t want to fight. And…” His arms tighten around Peter. “I’ve been thinking a lot about what you said. Before. I shouldn’t have done that. I should have let you handle it on your own. I should have let you grow. I should have let you… fail just sounds so harsh, doesn’t it? But I shouldn’t have taken that away from you.
“I want what’s best for you. You know that, right, Pete? Maybe I did it the wrong way but all I want is for you to be happy. And I want us to be okay again. If you think that’s possible.” There’s a nervous undercurrent to Tony, in the minute shake of his arms and his unsteady hands.
“I want us to be okay again too.” Peter steps away from the hug, still holding loosely to Tony’s wrists. “That’s why I want you to come to my graduation.”
Tony’s smile is watery, trembling at the corners, but true. “Peter,” he lays a gentle hand on Peter’s cheek. “I would be honored.”
Tony and Aunt May cheer when his name is called and hand each other tissues as Peter gets his diploma. It’s a beautiful day, fun of sunshine and happy tears. Most of all, it’s a proud day. Peter hopes it’s just the first of many.
End Note: sooooo funny story, MIT was actually my dream school but I was deferred and then rejected so there's that (now I'm in Northeastern's honors program for engineering and I'm still SUFFERING so I guess that all worked out)

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #35 Review
spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers
It’s the conclusion of the Save Our School arc as Lunella and Devil D has to fight off The Kingpin, his rotten egg daughter, Princess, and the raucous Wrecking Crew if she is to have any hope of saving Public School #20 from being shuttered. From The creative team of Brendan Montclare, Natacha Bustos and Tamra Bonvillain. Quick recap and review following the jump.
So here’s the situation: The Kingpin has eyes on the Lower East Side real estate where PS20 resides and all that stands between him and a hefty finical windfall is the academic performance of the school’s students. He’s superseded his authority as mayor to make it so the students must take a standardized achievement test. If their averaged score falls beneath a particular threshold he will be able to shut down the school, transfer the students elsewhere and arrange for the property to be sold to his investors. It’s a clever albeit sinister and utterly unscrupulous scheme, yet there is one variable he hadn’t accounted for. He’s discovered that one of the students, Lunella Lafayette, is like the smartest person in the world and her performance on the test is certain to hugely augment the overall average, quashing his efforts to have the school shuttered.

The Kingpin has used his adoptive daughter, Princess, as a plant to suss out the school and go through its records; indeed she was the one who informed her dad of the threat to his plans posed by Lunella. Fortunately for the Kingpin, Lunella has actually be rather lousy at maintaining her secret identity as Moon Girl. He’s aware of her dual life as a costumed adventurer and has arranged to have the Wrecking Crew attack the school at the exact time that the test is administered. He knows that Moon Girl will spring into action to defend the school, thus ensuring that Lunella not complete the test and not raise the overall average.

Lunella feels rather confident that she can ace this test and in so doing save her school. Her only concern is making sure that Devil Dinosaur doesn’t somehow get in the way. Throughout the arc Lunella has endeavored on a side-quest to figure out some way to prevent her and Devil D from switching consciousnesses at the most inopportune of times. Her ability to mind-transplant with Devil Dinosaur is Lunella’s Inhuman power, but she sees it as much more of a curse than a gift and she has attempted to use her intellect to devise a means to stop these transfers.
Her initial experiment went awry, resulting in Devil D being transformed into a nine year old boy. He has since switched back to his original form, but Lunella is no closer to curing her curse than she was when she started. Something to deal with another day… for today Lunella just needs to make sure Devil D stays out of trouble long enough for her to complete the DOE exam. As such she has chained him up and left MoonBot 7 and DoomHead to watch over him.
Oh, and DoomHead has been attached to a quarter-operated play airplane… it’s a running gag that the disembodied DoomBot head be attached to a new, bizarre contraption with every appearance… this one might be my favorite to date!

Meanwhile, The Kingpin has concocted a special version of the test to be completed by his adopted daughter, Princess. He’s already arranged for her to be transferred to a much better school and this version of the test is especially easy, hence ensuring her acceptance to this prestigious school. He strong-arms the classroom teacher, Ms. Dominguez, to make sure that Princess gets the special version of the test.

Natacha Bustos employs an animated style in her illustration, giving the characters a fun, clean and cartoony look. The way she draws The Kingpin is similar. He’s mean looking, but not overly frightening. And yet I had watched much of Daredevil Season Three this past weekend and cannot help but read Fisk here in the same fashion as he is portrayed in the show. Vincent D'Onofrio plays Fisk in Daredevil and does a wonderful job of offering him up as this terrifyingly unhinged and menacing villain. Hearing D’Onofrio’s voice, with its creepy staccato cadence, threatening Ms. Dominguez was quite unsettling; I was legit afraid for her!

Anyways, the class is seated for their exam and Lunella is feeling very confident. Taking tests has always been easy for her and she’s come to enjoy it. And this particular exam has no upper limit, meaning that she can achieve an astronomically high score and easily lift the overall average to well above passing. The exams are passed out, Lunella cracks her knuckles and gets ready to dig in. And just then, at the worst possible moment, Lunella’s Inhuman powers kick in and her consciousness is transferred to Devil Dinosaur’s body… and his to hers. Meaning that the fate of the school now rests on a tyrannosaurus, with a brain the size of a walnut, completing a standardized test!

It had previously appeared as though Lunella’s mind transference with Devil D had something to do with the lunar cycle… that a full moon somehow triggered the activation of her powers. Of late, however, this does not seem to be the case. Indeed the reoccurrence of the transference always happening at such inopportune times seems to suggest that it all may be linked to another causative factor. It might be triggered by way of heightened stress, or some other psychological variable.
Whatever the case, Lunella has found herself trapped in a dinosaur’s body, chained in her lab and desperate to escape. Fortunately, MoonBot7 has been going through something of an existential struggle of late. Lunella had built MoonBot 7 to double for her at home and at school when Moon Girl is off on an adventure. Yet the android has cultivated her own sentience and has come to feel trapped with not enough to do and wish to go out and discover her own sense of purpose. What all this will ultimate result in is a tale to be told another time. For now, however, the android can sense Devil D’s seeming distress and decides to release him from the chain.
Occupying Devil Dinosaur’s body, Lunella lumbers off racing as fast as she can to get to the school (although it’s not exactly clear what she hopes to achieve once she gets there). At that same moment, The Kingpin unleashes the Wrecking Crew on PS20, figuring that it’ll draw out Moon Girl and prevent her from competing the test. The dinosaur arrives just as the villains are about to get a’wrecking and a thunderous battle ensues.

Meanwhile, Princess completes her special version of the test. This version of the test is super easy and she finishes it off perfectly, although she doesn’t realize it. She’s just too occupied with her jealous feelings toward Lunella. Lunella seems to possess everything that Princess wants: she’s smart, has friends, respect and most of all she gets lots of attention. She doesn’t know it, but currently Lunella’s body is occupied by Devil D’s mind and Princess misconstrues Devil D’s fidgeting about as showing off.
Just then, the commotion out on the playground garners everyone’s attention. In the distraction, Princess swipes the test Lunella had appeared to have completed and changes their names. This way, Princess believes she will receive the credit for Lunella’s work and Lunella for hers (unaware that the test was actually completed by a ding-dong dinosaur :p).

All her kvetching over the matter notwithstanding, Lunella has actually grown rather apt at functioning in Devil Dinosaur’s body. She’s used to being all intellect and having this much raw brute force to work with is kind of refreshing. She’s grown more accustomed to operating the body, using his swinging tail, stomping feet and snapping jaws. Her brains coupled with his brawn creates one heck of a combatant and the Wrecking Crew have no chance. They’re chased right off without a bit of damage done to the school.
Not to be completely left out, Devil Dinosaur runs out in Lunella’s body and sneaks in a chomp on The Wrecker’s thigh…

The day is saved. Thanks to Princess’ tinkering, Lunella received a perfect score on the test, hugely lifting the school’s overall average hence preventing it from being shut down.
Unfortunately, Princess received credit for Devil D’s scribbling and failed the test, meaning she won’t be able to go to prestigious academy Kingpin had wanted her to. Princess is saddened to have let her adopted father down, but not entirely disappointed. She doesn’t like it in Manhattan and wants to go back to where she had been living before. Fisk relents to her wishes. Where exactly she had come from, who her birth parents are or were all remains unrevealed. Suffice to say, this is likely not to be the last we see of Princess and it seems quite evident that Moon Girl has earned herself an arch nemesis for some time in the future.

Lunella’s victory was brought about more by luck than her guise, but a win is a win and PS20 will stay open. On top of that, Lunella has learned that her power may not be as much of a curse as she has believed it to be. Operating Devil D’s body is basically a test, an intellectual puzzle that she must solve… and she’s great at those. The key has been getting over her frustration and stubbornness and approaching the matter with a cooler head. Doing so, seeing it as merely a test, enabled her to use Devil D’s body with skill and precision.

More so, there is now evidence that the mind transference may be caused by an internal trigger. It could be something she can learn to control… another test, another puzzle. And solving this puzzle could very well leave Moon Gil one of the most powerful heroes on the planet. The world’s smartest mind with the ability to transport into the body of nature’s greatest predator at will. Of course ultimately solving this puzzle may prove quite difficult. The trigger seems to be tied to Lunella’s emotions. When it comes to intellect, Lunella is razor sharp… when it comes to emotion, however, she is still very much a nine-year-old. Whatever the case, I’ll be very interested to see where the story goes in this regard.

Once more, Bustos’s illustration and Bonvillain’s colors work hand-in-glove with Montcalre’s script. Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur is one of only a handful of books at Marvel where the creative team has been able to work as a unit throughout nearly it’s entire run. And it very much pays off, offering up a synergy where art and story work in conjunction and offer a final result that is greater than the sum of its parts. Comics at it’s best.
Save Our School is a pretty fun arc. Although the previous arc (Fantastic Three) was one of my favorite Moon Girl tales ever… as such this story doesn’t come across as good (although only to the extent of the two in comparison to one another). There were lots of fun details and character-building bits (my favorite being getting the chance to meet Lunella’s grandparents and Devil D’s short time as Devin Dinosaur). Princess is a very intriguing foil and I hope she comes back soon. I also hope we get further development on MoonBot 7.

All in all, a highly recommended read. Four out five Lockjaws for the issue and for the arc as a whole.
