John Epler in the BioWare Discord (August 7th) -
John: "You can disable/enable helmets for cutscenes or at all times." --- User: "Will we be able to collect codex entries again?" John: "Absolutely. Codex entries are part of the series' DNA - plus, they're really fun to write." --- User: "Are there long curly hair options?" John: "There are!" --- User: "Are sub-classes locked to the faction you’re in?" John: "No. They're themed towards factions, but you can choose a specialization from a separate faction than your own." --- User: "Will subtitles from companions be on screen with their icons lit up like in Inquisition?" John: "Subtitles will appear center-screen and have the speaker name attached. So you'll see who's saying what." --- User: "Regarding the cutscenes findable in the game, will a gallery be available for re-watch?" John: "Not at present, no. Since our cutscenes are (almost all) real-time in-engine, this would be nearly impossible with our tech."
[character limit text break!]
User: "What are the chances for a third World of Thedas volume after The Veilguard's release?" John: "I can't comment on specific plans, but World of Thedas is close to my heart and I'd love to do more in general with our ancillary books and products, once we're able to come up for air from the game." --- User: "Can we edit our race during character creator freely or are we locked in by choosing race first like in inquisition?" John: "Lineage informs a number of options after that choice - you can always go back in CC and change it, but it's the first decision you will make and changing it will reset the following decisions." --- User: "I did have a follow-up on lineage - do the other lineages/races also have background choices the way elves do with city/dalish? CAN we play a qunari raised within the Qun?" John: "So a couple of things, just to be super clear on this. There is no 'city elf/dalish elf' switch (for example) that you can pick in character creator. Each lineage can be each faction, though, and that will provide a baseline for your character you can further refine through role playing. For Elves, as an example - Veil Jumper elves tend to be more 'Dalish' to reflect that background, while Shadow Dragon elves tend to have a background that reflects being an Elf in Minrathous. Other factions have their own nuance. Importantly, those things tend to be more focused on how you relate to that faction, while leaving more general 'Elf' topics as something you have more freedom with. Or, TLDR - while choices at CC define some baselines around your character, we like to give you the opportunity to build your character's background and beliefs through in-game RP. Hopefully all that makes sense." User: "That does, and is right in line with what Corinne said during the Q&A! I was asking whether we would see the same background variety in the non-elven lineages." John: "Yes! Sorry, that's what I was trying to answer - there will be plenty of opportunities to RP who you are/were as the other lineages as well."
[character limit text break!]
User: "are there companions gifts again" John: "Isn't the gift of your presence enough? More seriously, though - you very well might find things in the world that certain companions would appreciate!" --- John: "Rook is generally assumed to be anywhere from late 20s to late 40s, but ultimately we don't give Rook a specific age. You can RP them to be however old you want." --- User: "will conversations be zoomed in like a cutscene type or zoomed out like in DAI?" John: "While we do have some 'lighter' conversations for specific types of content, they use a more traditional over-the-shoulder cinematic camera. I created the simple conversation system in DAI and while it did what we needed it to do, we heard the feedback on the camera loud and clear." --- User: "The darkspawn look fairly different in veilguard. Is ot a simple redisgn like the demons or is it due to them being enhanced by red lyrium?" John: "I'm not going to tell you WHAT it is that's making them look different, since that's a spoiler, but it's more than just a visual redesign." --- John: "Need and inspiration, mostly. We can't bring in every single animal out there, especially since we want the ones we DO put in the game to be at the right level of quality. So we pick the ones that we know make sense in the spaces we're building, and also it's based on what the team wants to do. If someone is incredibly passionate about bringing in a specific creature, it's something we want to give opportunities to pursue wherever possible. As to the general ecology of Thedas - there are absolutely similarities, but it's not 1:1. A world where megafauna still exist as apex predators (dragons) is going to have some pretty significant impact on what else exists." --- User: "does the lighthouse have a kitchen, can we eat and drink? what sort interactables are there at the home base" John: "Not going to get into specifics on interactables, but there is more to do in the Lighthouse than conversations with companions. The Lighthouse does have a kitchen, and your companions acknowledge it/use it both narratively and ambiently. Some maybe better than others." John: "A little more expansion on this - we want the Lighthouse to feel like a 'real space' as much as possible. That means making it a space that makes sense and, eventually, feels like home to you and your team. It also means spending a little extra time on how the companions (and Rook) use and exist in the space. At this point we've made a LOT of personal hub spaces in DA and ME, and we've learned a lot from doing so." --- John: "It wouldn't be a DA game if we didn't have some returning characters. We've shown some of the more obvious ones, and hinted at others, but we want to keep some surprises for launch."

Random thought but:
Those wide-brimmed pointy hats that witches and wizards are often depicted wearing are for traveling, right? That's what the brim is for, to protect from the sun and other elements. But the pointy part is probably ceremonial -- historically speaking most conical hats are often worn by priests or nobility to signify rank or role.
But sometimes in fantasy settings, wizard hats don't have the brim. But witches almost never lose the brim.
This indicates to me a shared origin between wizards and witches as traveling practitioners of magic. Which makes sense! If you only get a few magical people in a community, either because magical talent is rare or because it takes a lot of study to pick it up or both, then most magically inclined people would probably be in high demand. Which would mean that there was a lot of call for them to travel around and provide their services to place too poor or remote or unlucky to have their own resident magical practitioner.
But gradually, a divide begins to occur. Formally educated magical users are of course most commonly found in cosmopolitan regions (big cities) and can afford to stay in one place for a lot longer. Perhaps even exclusively, if the community is large enough to support them! So as more great cities establish themselves and also establish things like larger and better-funded academic institutions, a class of non-wandering magic user begins to grow. This group, i.e. wizards, signal their greater access to formal education and to wealthy patrons by dropping the brim from their hats. They keep the conical shape and height, to denote status and rank, but they get all bougie about the brim. Other attempts to flaunt success among wizards emphasize the lack of need to travel for work, such as building magnificent magical towers, positioning themselves in the courts of nobility, or building entire academic institutions dedicated to the study of the arcane arts.
Meanwhile rural communities still require the services of magically inclined people, but can no longer afford to entice wizards away from their status-defining sedentary lifestyle. Thus another class of magic user (witches) begins to define itself by their continued existence and work outside of major population centers. Since witches still travel and live in the countryside, their hats keep the brim, because they still need it to protect them from the elements.
This also explains the gender differential. While magical talent probably doesn't operate on the basis of gender, classism sure does. Girls born into wealthier families are often slated for marriage alliances and encouraged to treat formal education as an opportunity for husband-hunting, rather than actually becoming adept in or engaging with the professional use of magic itself. Which doesn't mean that none of them do it anyway, but there's probably a more marked difference between women who become wizards and men who do. Especially as wizards become more preoccupied with social status, and thus more likely to gate off access to certain levels of education, so that only either the extremely wealthy or the extremely talented can get at them. If a girl's family doesn't want to go to all the trouble of paying for a full education or compelling a skilled teacher to take her on, her options for pursuing it on her own are probably quite limited.
Meanwhile out in the sticks, magic users are such rarities that gatekeeping on the basis of gender is frankly too impractical, especially considering the degree of utility magic has for saving lives and livelihoods. It's just not that feasible to give a shit about the gender of the spellcaster who is saving your entire sheep flock from a bad case of bluetongue, or holding up a barrier that's keeping a recent landslide from burying your house, or getting the ghosts out of a local well that you'd really love to be able to actually use.
So over time witches become associated with women, even though it's more that they've got a 50/50 split whereas wizards heavily favor men. In the way of things, this actually become a self-fulfilling prophecy over time, because men who develop magical aptitude see witchery as "women's work" and are more likely to try and save up and move to the city to learn "real" magic, or else try and differentiate themselves from female witches by creating their own distinctions between what they do and what women spellcasters do, carving out particular areas of focus to be the masculine fields of magic.
This would probably create even more distinct classes of magical users -- the male witches who still do the usual magic work in rural regions but don't like to be called witches, and so do something else to distinguish themselves in an equivalent of stamping a No Girls Allowed sign on their door (warlocks?), who probably still keep the wide brim on their hats but perhaps ditch the pointy part in a middle finger to the elitism of wizards (and also to ensure they're less likely to be mistaken for witches), and the magically talented people who make their way from the country to the nearest cities to try and join the wizard class. Though this group is more likely to struggle due to a lack of social or financial clout, and probably has to depend way more on having enough sheer natural talent to draw the eye of a benefactor (sorcerers?). Most of them would be men too, because of increasing social attitudes that men were just better at this "type" of magic would mean that women would have a harder time getting backing, but there would probably be some who were ambitious enough to nevertheless go for it and then end up in a related-but-still-gendered category of their own (sorceresses?).
Because classism, it seems likely that these underdog country-to-city spellcasters (probably also joining in with impoverished but talented locals to the metropolitan areas too) don't get the pointy hats unless they manage to actually succeed in being absorbed by wizard establishments, but also don't keep the brimmed hats because those are associated with being a bumpkin. They're hat-less, or else wear a completely different style. They probably also get a bit of a shady reputation because there are a lot of predatory institutions that scoop up magically talented individuals who don't know how to navigate the relevant social institutions, and then basically embroil them in debt or whatnot in order to exploit whatever magical talent they have for whatever profits are to be gained.
Of course you probably also have the opposite class of people, i.e. formally trained magic users who decide that trying to rub elbows with kings and rich people is stupid, and take their training to go off and save villages from mudslides and such instead. They're basically witches again but with a fancier pedigree, but of course coming from the outside of it they lack the community knowledge to navigate regions as well and also now there's this split from the Boy Witches Who Won't Be Called Witches, and probably what counts as Girl Magic gets very regional, so what jobs you do or how you go about casting spells has an irregular impact on what the locals will call you if you aren't a woman. If you're a woman you can probably take the witch label without as much issue. But since the fellas started as wizards, then, they more likely still call themselves wizards in the face of all this, but the big city wizards do NOT want to be associated with them (unless they do something really impressive that they can share credit for), so there has to be a new category for them (hedge wizards?) to differentiate from proper wizards. Anyway they wear the big brimmed hats again, because that's just practical. Whether they wear tall ones or not probably varies between individual and regional implications about it.
So. Yeah. Magic user hat politics, with bonus gender nonsense.

What exactly defines a token character as a bad representation choice and not as a "background character" who happens to be disabled? And can a disabled character be the only disabled character but still good representation?
I know having relevant disabled characters is important, but when, besides the cast members who influence the plot, you have one of those scenes where a one-off character needs to be there, like when the autistic protagonist needs a ride in the middle of the road and a little person stops to help, or when the wheelchair user main character wants to talk to the magic council about a certain situation and the attendant is a blind person with a cane who checks the information of a braille book, is it safe from tokenism?
Hey!
For this post I will use "representation" to imply good/decent representation, not just the act of XYZ minority technically appearing on the page.
There's definitely a lot to discuss when it comes to tokenism, and there are a lot of different criteria that you can use to define what exactly it is.
So I'm gonna start with the main definition of what would differentiate a "token" from an unimportant character (=one that doesn't influence the actual plot) who just happens to be disabled: how you go about the fact that they are in your book(/comic/etc.).
If you put in the description of your work that it's "disability rep!" because there's this one guy in a wheelchair in one scene, that's tokenism: using a minority to simply boost/promote something as "diverse". That's the most annoying occurrence of it, there's so much media that people recommend as "XYZ rep" and when you look into it, the "rep" is a side character that shows up in two episodes and has like a line of dialogue. Sad!
To use one of your examples, tokenism would be if you claimed that your work has "dwarfism representation" in it because of that one guy who helps the main character in one scene. It's... just not that. That doesn't mean it's bad; if every single background character who wasn't a cisHet white abled Christian man (etc.) was supposed to be deep and thought-provoking then no one would be writing them, because that's not what a background character is supposed to be.
But - you could commit a tokenism with a character even if they are just a background extra who shows up once. Tokenism often goes with the fact that the token character could be swapped out for a non-minority one and nothing would change, since the key here is that the author doesn't really care: it's all just to say "hey, I got XYZ in my book!". So if you were to write a background character that you explicitly mention has disability X, but then they do something that a person with that disability wouldn't be able to do - that's probably a token (if not, it's still a badly made character). It's there to "represent" a group, but it doesn't make sense and there is no point so to speak because the author just doesn't care.
In that way, many disabled characters are just tokens - because the writer is writing an abled character, but keeps calling them disabled. When's the last time anyone has seen a character with albinism who was blind or low vision? What's up with all those deaf characters who read lips and speak orally so well that you literally forget they are even supposed to be deaf? Why is that "tragically unable to walk" character... walking for the entire duration of the book? They're just tokens done with no care nor research, it's all diversity points and quirky aesthetics. Everyone wants to be "inclusive", no one wants to actually have a disabled character who experiences disability.
Another thing with background characters is what role they serve. Most of them are fine - cashier has a skin condition, guy ordering a drink uses a speech generating device, mom of an annoying kid doesn't have a leg, cool. But sometimes it's worth to just ask "why am I making this specific character, whose disability has no impact on the story, disabled?". That is to say that if you need a prodigy piano player and your idea is to make them totally blind who always wears sunglasses, or to make the generic murderer have a big burn scar on half of their face, you're repeating a stereotype. "Role" also encompasses what happens to them. Does the one disabled guy just... die, and that's all? That's a token.
Those are the main things I'd avoid when it comes to background characters. Don't claim that they are what they aren't or represent what they don't, and if you want a disabled character - even just an extra - then either commit or just don't do it, and keep in mind where you're putting them in the first place.
Can a disabled character be the only disabled character but still good representation?
They sure can, but they just aren't, usually at least. The problem with single character representation is that it puts a big burden on this one character: to represent a whole community. That's a lot. I've found myself in this exact spot before: small cast, one character is disabled, and I try to make the whole thing better and more authentic... every single time the result was adding more disabled characters, even if their roles were smaller. It's about the potential contrast.
There are choices that you can do when you have multiple characters of X minority that you should probably avoid if there's just one of them. If I see a work that has three blind characters and one of them wears sunglasses, my reaction will be "oh, cool, they have photophobia like me". If there's one blind character, and they wear sunglasses, my assumption will be that that's what just the writer thinks all blind people wear.
(Even though, that singular character could 100% also be photophobic. My assumption here is based on my experience, because that's how it usually goes.)
In that case you can find yourself in a place where you either need to subvert a bunch of stereotypes (some of which are based in fact!) or address it in one way or another in your work. That character could say "oh, I wear sunglasses indoors because even artificial light really hurts my eyes", but in order to do that, you need to be aware that this is a writing trope in the first place. Not to mention, if you do it too much, it starts reading as some sort of disability PSA. There's a fine line to everything, and the fewer characters of a particular minority you have, the harder it is to navigate it in a way that feels natural to actually read.
Sometimes the occurrence of just a single disabled character also raises some questions. Where's everybody else at? There are some exceptions to that (e.g. stories with a very limited character count) but generally speaking, everyone knows someone who's disabled in one way or another, especially if they're disabled themself. Books tend to make disabled people seem as a rare phenomenon, but that's really not the case.
Sometimes it borders on nonsensical worldbuilding - all those disabled characters who only get their mobility aids/meds because they Know A Guy (or are that guy)... I always ask myself, "what about all those people who don't know this one specific guy? what about everyone who lived before and after this one specific guy?", and I don't think the authors ever consider that. Unless the world population count is in triple digits at most, your character won't be the only disabled person. Writing in a way that subconsciously implies that they are is to me just another form of tokenism, because they're not only the only disabled character in the story, they're also presumably the only one in that universe overall.
This is just a lot of paragraphs to say that you probably aren't ever fully safe from tokenism unless there are multiple disabled characters who have at least somewhat important roles in the story - and even then, they can still be badly written, just in different ways.
Sorry for the long post but I hope this helps,

Disliking Caitlyn doesn't make you a good person
Liking or disliking fictional characters doesn't define you. It doesn't make you a good or bad person. It speaks about your preferences and interests. It gives me, a stranger, some information about a few parts of your personality but it doesn't tell me if you're a "good" or "bad guy".
Caitlyn Kiramman is a young female fictional character who enters traditionally male-dominated roles: the leader of her family and strike team and Commander of Piltover. Moreover, she's a lesbian, which makes her character even more groundbreaking for the audience in 2024.
It's up to you, to like, love, dislike, or hate her. Everyone has their own opinions about everything.
What tells me you're an unpleasant person or at least makes me block or avoid you in the digital space?
Systematic expression of your dislike or hate towards a fictional character. For example, I have questions for users who daily or weekly make posts about why Caitlyn is [a long list of bad words] and actively comment under neutral or positive posts about her.
Double standards. For example, when I see a person who likes Silco or Ambessa despite their actions but strongly dislikes Caitlyn for her actions. Also, ignoring the bad actions of their favorite characters (e.g., Jinx) while expressively pointing out the similar actions of another character (e.g., Caitlyn).
Systematic comparison of their favorite character towards others to justify their love towards this character. Another example of Jinx vs Caitlyn fans.
As a lesbian who escaped an authoritarian country with homophobic laws, I'm concerned:
Why are there quite a lot of members of Arcane fandom who constantly describe Caitlyn with the words "f*scist" or "n*zi"? I hope you're not from Italy, Germany, or post-soviet countries. Otherwise, you don't have any excuse to wrongly use these terms.
Why do users think that liking a fictional character (e.g., any character in power in any TV show or movie) is equal to supporting real-life figures like Vl*dimir P*tin (Russia), D*nal Tr*mp (the USA), V*ctor *rban (Hungary), K*m J*ng *n (North Korea), B*shar *l-*ssad (Siria), and others? Do you differentiate between the real and fictional world?

What do you think will happen/what are your expectations for book 8?
I really wish that besides Grim, somehow Yuu also had an overblot, even without magic, maybe somehow when he is defeated Grim's blot passes to Yuu? It is said that Blot is only created by magic users, but if the blot comes from someone else, maybe it is possible for a non-magician to have an overblot, even because overblots are rare events, it makes sense that something like this would never happen before. I think it's very difficult to happen, since Yuu doesn't have a defined appearance, so they couldn't make an overblot Yuu sprite (unless it was some monstrous being without a human appearance), but it doesn't hurt to dream, right?
Tumblr media
I don't have any specific predictions, but I expect book 8 to at the very least cover the following topics:
NRC vs RSA magift/spelldrive tournament (NRC wins?)
solving the mystery of Mickey Mouse in the mirror
Grim OB
Diasomnia returns to help us out with whatever
follow-up on Malleus's horn injury and/or character growth from book 7 (like what is he doing to repent for his actions)
Yuu has to make the choice to go home or to stay and/or something super convenient happens to keep them in Twisted Wonderland (like the reveal that they're dead or something)
reveal of Crowley's true motives
I've already spoken about my thoughts on Yuu ad nauseum but 💦 to make it clear where I stand on the question of "should Yuu have a bigger role in the main story?":
Yuu is the main character, but not the protagonist. MC =/= protagonist
Yuu is SUPPOSED to be ordinary, to show the arrogant and powerful NRC students that there is an alternative to their current methods
Yuu should be more involved, but in a way that doesn't impede the self-insert aspect of Twst + doesn't shift focus to make them the Most Important/Central Figure of Twst
I think the idea of Yuu OBing has been done quite often in fan content, but I don't think it will happen in canon. Firstly, it just cannot happen naturally since Yuu is incapable of magic (and blot is a magic byproduct). I don't think it's possible for someone to "catch" OB like it's a contagious disease either. The manga adaptation of Twst indicates that blot is caustic and literally eats away at whatever it touches, organic (grass) or inorganic (fabric, soil, etc.). It'd kill you, not corrupt you like it does with the mage from which the blot originates. Another issue is that the Phantom that arises with the blot leeches off a mage's magical energy to get by, and Yuu has none to offer. Maybe the one exception to this rule is Idia, due to the unique Shroud bloodline curse which easily munches away at the blot he accumulates and/or blot in the immediate area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly, I don't see a narrative purpose for this occurring in the script other than "it would be cool" or "it would make Yuu's presence seem ultra important". It'd also be pretty difficult to show in the narrative since each player has their own interpretation of Yuu. The OB form wouldn't fit everyone, and the post-OB flashback (assuming there is one) wouldn't be "true" of everyone either. We've never had an extended monologue of Yuu, we've never had Yuu talk at length about how they feel about being in Twst versus going home. In fact, they're given clashing dialogue options sometimes so you can pick whether your Yuu wants to stay or wants to leave.
Tumblr media
I just think it doesn't make sense to throw in a Yuu OB. It's something that's best to stay in the realm of fan art and fanfiction, in my opinion. If it were to be canonized, surely there would be fans unhappy with the execution or the representation on their own Yuusona. Like you said, doesn't hurt to dream but it's unlikely to happen, so it's probably best not to get your hopes up.

Why I Think Will is the "Sorcerer"
When I first saw the episode titled "Sorcerer" way back when the episode titles first leaked, I immediately associated it with Will. But of course I did, considering he is my favorite character after all. But I do have more evidence to back this up other than favorite character bias.
Wizard as Sorcerer
For some of the international episode titles in other languages, the title for "Sorcerer" is occasionally translated to "Wizard." (sometimes it is translated as "Magician" but the general idea of a magic wielder is still there) It has also been noted that in some gendered languages, such as German and Italian, that the word takes on its masculine form. Thank you to @bylrndgm for your help with this! (Edit: adding this post)
Tumblr media
It is true that Wizard and Sorcerer are two separate DnD classes, but I think it important to also consider the broader definition and understanding of "sorcerer" outside of just it's DnD definition.
There are multiple definitions that can be found online that refer to a sorcerer as a wizard.
"a person who practices sorcery: wizard" - Merriam-Webster
"Magical, mysterious, and quite possibly mythical, a sorcerer is a name for a spell-casting wizard." - Vocabulary.com
"a person who practices sorcery; black magician; wizard." -Dictionary.com
"a person who practices sorcery : a wizard or warlock" - The Britannica Dictionary
"One who practices sorcery; a wizard." - The Free Dictionary
So I think it is reasonable to see why so many, including myself, immediately associated Will with the sorcerer title— Sorcerers and wizards are heavily associated with each other and are oftentimes used interchangeably.
Since episode 1, Will has been closely tied with wizards. From his DnD character Will the Wise, to the password of Castle Byers referring to a fictional wizard, to dressing up as a wizard, to Will's depiction as a wizard making it into his painting of foreshadowing, the wizard status has followed Will throughout the seasons.
Tumblr media
But wait, isn't Will a cleric and not a wizard?
Well yes... and no.
The one reference to Will being a cleric in the show is the one scene where Mike tells Max all of the party members' roles in the group. Here, I do not think he is referring to their DnD roles (even though some of them do share these titles with their characters) but rather, he is referring to their role in the real world using DnD classes. El is assigned as a mage, despite not having a DnD character of her own. The mage title refers to El's real position as a user of magical powers, and Will's cleric title refers to his connection to an otherworldly plane. "Clerics are intermediaries between the mortal world and the distant plane of the gods." from Dnd Beyond. Despite Will's label as a cleric, he is still heavily associated with wizards as well, and thus sorcerers.
The DnD descricption for sorcerers does seem to match Will as well, however. One defining element of a sorcerer, as described by DnD Beyond, is how they acquired their powers, which is either through "an exotic bloodline" or "exposure to unknown cosmic forces." "Is it a family curse, passed down to you from some distant ancestors? Or did some extraordinary event leave you blessed with inherent magic but perhaps scarred as well?"
I believe that Will has some sort of untapped powers that originate from his trip to the Upside Down in season one, which is why we are getting flashbacks to his time there, as has been indicated in behind the scenes material. I also have a more detailed post on why I believe that Will has powers here.
I don't think El is the "Sorcerer," but I do think it could also refer to Vecna
There are a couple of reasons why I do not believe that the title of sorcerer refers to El. The first being the use of masculine articles which I described above, and the second is that high fantasy imagery does not typically follow El the way it does Will. El is usually encased in science fiction tropes and imagery, and gets the title "Superhero" in relation to her powers rather than "Sorcerer" or "Wizard" or "Magician."
I do, however, acknowledge that Vecna has been referred to as a "dark wizard" by Dustin within the show, and has acquired his powers in a similar way that Will has re: the stage play. I think it is possible that the moniker "Sorcerer" could refer to both Vecna and Will, considering how closely they are connected and how they seem to be intentional foils of each other.

my brain: hey
me: what
my brain: what if you made headcanons about team prime with a chronically ill/disabled human
me: THAT'S GENIUS LEVEL SHIT LET'S DO IT
Tumblr media
Team Prime taking care of a chronically ill/disabled human
Fandom: Transformers Prime
Ft. Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Arcee (+ Jack), Bumblebee (+ Raf), Bulkhead (+ Miko).
Content: Headcanons, platonic comfort, fluff. Reader's illness isn't directly stated. Mentions of mobility aids, flare-ups, pain/discomfort (caused by said chronic illness). Reader is implied to be an ambulatory wheelchair user. Dividers by dollywons.
A/N: this was very self indulgent (and comforting to make), i have plague psoriasis and god it is not easy living with it with all the flare ups, skin issues, psoriatic arthritis... >:( i'm doing a lot better now, i first wrote this while i was having a pretty bad flare-up. as of now i'm fine, but even now it still scars me
to ya'll who are suffering too from a chronic condition, i want you to know that you're loved, and your illness doesn't define who you are. you're not alone. this journey won't be easy, but there will be others willing to support and share that burden with you. take care! <3
Tumblr media
tfp banners made by me in picsart! i would prefer if you didn't use these, since i have made them specifically for these headcanons, but i can't exactly stop you, can i? lol. just don't claim as your own
soft autobot hijinks ensue. long post ahead!
Tumblr media
After they had been newly introduced to you, the Autobots had swiftly picked up on the fact that you were in need of a bit of extra assistance than the regular human, considering your condition. And they're more than willing to give the support that you need.
Optimus Prime
Tumblr media
Optimus takes on the role of a protective maternal figure for you rather quickly.
He reminds you to take it easy, and that your body needs its rest. He wouldn't want you to strain yourself.
He may collaborate with Ratchet- whether that be to ask for advice, research together about your illness(es), or for the both of them to care for you.
If you're a wheelchair user, he'll request Agent Fowler to make modifications to the base so it's more accessible to you and easier to get to certain areas. Ramps, platform lifts, and disability-friendly stuff in general will be installed. Also, your meds/supplements, comfort items and things you may need will be easy to retrieve here at base. He wants to make sure you have the best quality of life here.
It makes his spark ache to know you're in so much discomfort. He wishes he can do more to ease your pain, and feels guilty that he can't do much more. He wants nothing more but for you to feel safe and happy.
Optimus is a good listener. He likes hearing about your interests and hobbies, even if he may not understand it the most. And you're more than welcome to vent to him.
If you want, he'll tell stories from his past back on Cybertron, before he was a Prime. Maybe you could share some memories with him, too. Optimus is just happy to talk with you, and it brings him a sense of warmth when he sees you in an uplifted mood.
Sometimes, he'll cradle you in his servos, his touch giving you a sense of security. As he does that, he'll reassure you with encouraging words and remind you of how much you are worth.
"You're so strong, little one. Despite everything, you strive on and keep going, even in the darkest of times... you're truly more than meets the eye. I'm proud of you. I mean it."
Tumblr media
Ratchet
As a medic, he cares. Ratchet educates himself about your illness and does whatever he can to aid you. He'll research your illness's effects, triggers for flare-ups, basically everything. Also, expect him to ask you questions from time to time.
He is a bit more prepared to care for you, since he has dealt with patients back on Cybertron that were disabled and/or ill long-term.
When you're around, he's always sure to keep a watchful eye on you. He's also visibly more concerned and caring when it comes to you. (The others find it endearing. Don't tell Ratchet, though!)
"Have you taken your meds/supplements already? No? Go take them. You need them, after all."
"Do you need a boost? Here, let me help you."
Ratchet opens up more than usual when he's with you. He's even more soft with you when you have flare-ups! He can't help but let his usual grumpy self falter when he sees you in this state... He orders you not to move around too much or put yourself in more discomfort.
If you ever need to vent about your struggles and insecurities, Ratchet's there for you. Sure, he may not be the best with handling emotions, but he'll be there to listen. He'll try to the best of his abilities to console and reassure you. He has your back, and is never leaving your side.
Arcee (+ Jack)
Tumblr media
She's sooo protective of you. Seeing you as part of her extended family, along with the other humans, she is fiercely protective when it comes to you. She'll go above and beyond to ensure of your safety and well-being. The last thing she'd want is for you to be in pain, let lose you.
Being the smallest of the team has its perks! With her size being the closest to a human, Arcee can easily fetch you your aids and medications whenever you need it. Just say the word, and she'll speed off to get your desired item (and you might not even need to say the word, it's like she already knows it by instinct).
She'd be really good at giving advice. Honest and firm, yet reassuring and gentle.
"You're doing awesome. Keep up the good work." She'd say to you after you've done even the smallest of achievements. Had your breakfast? Well done! Drank water? Good job! Took time to rest? Amazing!
She's the greatest at hyping you up. "You can do this. You're unstoppable!"
She isn't usually one for physical affection, but she enjoys just.. being present with you. You'll have her sitting by you or silently supervising you.
Jack also is frequently concerned about you. Not to the point where he is a constant worrywart, but he does care. You'll get a "How are you doing?" or something along the lines of that from time to time.
Arcee is a mama bear. Anything or anyone trying to hurt you? They're as good as scrap. Speaking of mamas...
Jack's mom? Every time June visits, she always wants to check up on you. She brings in monthly care packages specially made for you, filled with snacks, medications and supplements! Jack was a little embarrassed at first when she started giving those to you, and with her coddling you, but he's gotten used to it. As long as you're okay and cared for, he's okay too.
Tumblr media
Bumblebee (+ Raf)
Bumblebee was initially quite concerned about you. This was the first time that he's ever heard of humans being ill long-term. And the fact they have to go through so much? It makes him feel bad.
He's very clingy and caring to you! He likes spending quality time with you, and he may invite you to fun drives out with Raf! That is, of course if you are physically able to. If not, then maybe a video game or movie will do.
Bee joyfully beeps at you in greeting. "Bee's happy to see you! He's asking how you've been." Raf helps to translate.
Bumblebee is your source of emotional support and comfort. He really does love and cherish you, and is super affectionate!! He wants to make sure you're happy as often as possible.
Headrubs, hugs, a hand- or rather, a finger on your shoulder, holding you- all of it is a must!
During dark days, he's always there to provide support for you. Vocal comfort isn't exactly the best option for consoling, so physical comfort is the next best thing for him to bring you comfort. Hugs, nuzzles, pats, anything to give you those warm and fuzzy feelings.
He may not be able to voice his love for you properly, but he certainly can and will express it with whatever way he can to make sure you are constantly loved by him, regardless if you have you have your illness or not!
Tumblr media
Bulkhead (+ Miko)
Bulkhead treats you as if you were made of glass (not like he does it with the other kids). Extremely gentle and careful. He's a gentle giant to the core.
He also asks a lot of questions to know how your illness works and what you may need.
Miko likes cracking up jokes or offer to watch movies and/or play games in order to make you happy.
In all honesty, she isn't very confident in comforting others verbally, despite her talkative and outgoing personality. But Miko still wants to give support whenever you need it!
Cuddle pile!! Bulkhead and Miko will set up a cozy little area for all three of you to just relax, filled to the brim with blankets, pillows and snacks. You and Miko will be resting against both sides of Bulk, while his servos gently hold both of you, acting as a warm, secure blanket for you two.
Your smile never fails to make him smile as well. "Aww, well aren't you just precious. Glad to know you're feeling happy."
Seeing you in pain, whether it be physical or mental, also never fails to stab him with a pang of sorrow. Immediately comes to your side to comfort you. "Hey, hey. It's gonna be alright. Here, lean on me."
Bulkhead is always there to lend a hand- or servo, whenever you are in need of it. If you just want to spend time with him for a while or cry your feelings out, he'll pat your back reassuringly with kind words.
Tumblr media
thanks so much for reading! feel free to request something if you'd like. you can request for more disabled/chronic illness related stuff, too!! ^_^ i'd be happy to write for it, and i'll do it to the best of my efforts. INTERACTIONS/REBLOGS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!!! i worked hard on this

So…you want to know more about Korean shipping terminology (and how does this apply to Ateez?)
Luckily, I have spent the better part of six years of my life learning Korean! Which fortunately(?) means that I have learned plenty about the lingo Korean BL fans use re: shipping dynamics. Actually, this makes it SO MUCH easier to navigate websites like Twitter, where NSFW posting is censored for security reasonable. The difference is that English speakers do not have an organized method of referring to the members in their ships (for example, one user might write seongjoong as secngjccng where one might instead write sxxngjxxng, and where another one might even write sngjng, etc etc). But how do Korean speakers handle this situation? What is the context behind all of this? I will provide with you with a fun and easy chart at the end, but first….Let me explain:
Tumblr media
Taking you back to the early 2000s
Our setting: the early Korean BL online forums. The terminology originating from these spaces were unsurprisingly heavily influenced by the original sources from which BL manga was derived: the Japanese language. Japanese has a system of Chinese characters used to simplify the writing process known as Kanji. Korean has a similar concept, known as Hanja. Where as Kanji is still heavily utilized to this day for a variety of reasons (my Japanese teacher would always say its main purpose is to minimize the amount of script needed to convey an idea), Hanja has largely fallen out of fashion—used primarily to clarify homophones in text, in literature such as novels and older writings, and as a stylistic choice to depict words such as Death and God, etc.
First, I’m going to give you some terms that are familiar to quite possibly all of you.
Seme (攻め) - the dominant figure in the relationship. Most often, this person will also be depicted as the top.
Uke (受け) - the submissive figure in the relationship. Most often, this person will also be depicted as the bottom.
Are you following so far? Great! In the most stereotypical depiction of homosexual relationships in Manhwa, these roles—the dom top and the sub bottom—reigned supreme so much so that eventually the community fell into the pitfall of believing these four terms to be interchangeable. While simplifying the process of understanding each person’s role in sexual intimacy, it also didn’t lend much of an allowance to explore ideas that defined this view of sexuality. This lack of nuance and flexibility has very little to do with why I’m writing today, but I do want to give some more context as to why these terms became such reliable shorthand.
Anyway…
In Korean BL spaces, these Kanji symbols (攻/受) were directly translated into 공 and 수, respectively. 공 literally means “Ball” but in the context of the Hanja, it means “attack” or “strong”, basically dominant top. 수—“Number”—“to submit” or “to receive”—submissive bottom. Don’t worry, this is the absolute last time I will be explaining these ideas.
Tumblr media
How does this work in Korean BL spaces?
Now this may also be familiar to many of you: the placement of each figure in the ship name MATTERS! In SFW spaces, you can get away with referring to Yunho and Mingi as Yungi because….well….platonic friendships aren’t normally referred to by dominance dynamics. In NSFW spaces, specifically dealing with fictional depictions of gay sex, referring to Yunho and Mingi as YunGi will have most people assuming that you mean fanfictions in which Yunho is the top and Mingi is the bottom. Oh, you didn’t? Well, obviously you meant to say MinYun (or MingYun or MingHo, I’ve seen this written all kinds of ways tbh). See what I mean? Now this isn’t always the case—familiarity is everything, so it’s not uncommon to see Wooyoung and San referenced as WooSan, no matter who is intended to be the top.
In Korean, ship names are almost always written in order of placement. For example, 윤낫 (we will get into why the Hangul in San’s name is reversed later) would refer to a Yunho x San pairing where Yunho is the top and San is the bottom. Likewise, 낫윤 would imply the exact opposite. Anyone want to take a stab at what 밍웡 means? How about 섷쫑?
Tumblr media
2010-2024, A minor shift in focus
As the spaces for these conversations grow and change with time, as did the terminology used to describe shipping dynamics and pairings.
If you are a fourth and fifth gen K-pop stan, you know what a coupling, or chemi, name is. Korean fans who did either did not want to discuss their idols in a romantic/sexual manner, or otherwise wanted some way to differentiate a typical shipping name from a platonic pairing name, developed the concept of using a chemi name instead. For Ateez, these would be:
E-Kang-Mo (에강모) / Yunho and Yeosang - the shortened version of 에이티즈 강아지 모임, literally translating into the Gathering of Ateez Puppies.
Matz (맏즈) / Seonghwa and Hongjoong - TWO MEN WE’RE ON FIRE 위험해‼️‼️‼️ Shortened version of 맏형 which literally translates into Oldest brothers. This quite obviously refers to our two oldest members within the group.
Elsewhere, you may come across 삼복즈, Jiwoong and Yujin from ZEROBASEONE. Or 채채즈, Chaewon and Eunchae from LE SSERAFIM. Usually this name is derived from some personality aspect or moment the two idols share, and can be given organically by fans or by the idols themselves. They are used strictly by both Korean and international fans as a means of referring to these idols and their friendships. It’s still possible that you find a fan who skips the whole “having to learn a completely different unit name” thing and just uses the traditional pairing name (I know, because I’m one of them), and in this case you can likely tell exactly when they first got into K-pop.
During this decade, shippers developed two more terms to further break down sexual dynamics, this time focusing on top/bottom. 왼 is the Korean directional word for “left”, and in the context of BL, means top. For bottom, Koreans use a shortened version of the directional word for “right”—른. I am not entirely sure whether the general consensus seems to be that these terms are still strictly tied to the idea of a dominant top and a submissive bottom, as most of the resources I used to search for these terms waffled on the subject.
In practice, 웡왼 will refer to shippings in which Wooyoung is a top (I searched for this on Twitter and came up unsurprisingly short….) and 쫑른 is in reference to shippings where Jongho is a bottom!
Tumblr media
Enough Already!! Just give us the tags!!
Loud and clear, boss. However, I just need a bit more contextual information out there before I finally get into the list:
Variations - there are few variations that exist within the Korean shipping fandom, save for instances in which another pairing could possibly exist within a different group.
Censorship - Korean fans are also heavy on making sure these posts do not make it into the hands of Ateez themselves (see: the chaos that happened when San stumbled across self-insert fiction written by K-Atiny). Member names are not written properly, and will always be altered in some way as a means of masking it from normal search results. Please pay attention to this!
Pronunciation - some letters are altered in the pairing names as a means to aid with pronunciation. This is sort of an intuitive thing with Korean, so I’m not sure how to explain this in a better way.
And now…the list!
Tumblr media
Here’s how to follow the chart:
Reading from the top down, you will find the 른—or pairings where the member is the bottom. For example, Seonghwa’s column reads:
홍섷 - Hongjoong x Seonghwa
윤섷 - Yunho x Seonghwa
솽섷 - Yeosang x Seonghwa
낫섷 - San x Seonghwa
밍섷 - Mingi x Seonghwa
웡섷 - Wooyoung x Seonghwa
쫑섷 - Jongho x Seonghwa
Likewise, reading the chart horizontally will provide you with the 왼—or pairings where the member is the top. For example, Mingi’s row reads:
밍섷 - Mingi x Seonghwa
솜몽 - Mingi x Hongjoong
밍윦 - Mingi x Yunho
솜여 - Mingi x Yeosang
밍낫 - Mingi x San
밍웡 - Mingi x Wooyoung
솜쫑 - Mingi x Jongho
Additionally, adding (Member name)른/왼 will provide you more general posts where Korean fans are discussing the idol as a top or a bottom in general without referring to a specific ship.
Hongjoong: 홍왼 + 홍른
Seonghwa: 섷왼 + 섷른
Yunho: 윦왼/윤왼 + 윦른/윤른
Yeosang: 솽왼 + 솽른
San: 낫왼 + 낫른
Mingi: 밍왼 + 밍른
Wooyoung: 웡왼 + 웡른
Jongho: 쫑왼 + 쫑른
Thank you for reading! I hope this was as useful for you as it was for me! Of course, I knew a lot of history regarding this topic due to the ample time I spent reading BL, but I will admit that I did not have much time to research this topic specifically. However, if you have any corrections to make, let me know!! This was so much fun for write, and maybe I can do something similar to this in the future as well.
Bye!

I was wondering why the hell Silver Charriot would develop the ability to switch minds and bodies, because while requiem abilities don’t have to coincide with the Stand’s original power, they’d have to at least coincide with the user’s personality, but body switching just feels so odd for Polnareff. Stands are the manifestation of the soul. I have two ideas.
The first is tied to the common idea that, when Chariot Requiem was walking seemingly aimlessly trying to ‘protect’ the arrow, it was in fact looking for Jotaro- the only person Polnareff would realistically feel the arrow is safe with. And it made me think that maybe, Chariot’s requiem power is the result of a sort of envy. Not a shallow one, Pol is not at all the type of person to feel envious of Jotaro’s powerful stand, or his looks, and I don’t think anyone would ever envy his personality. But, he does have something a Polnareff lacks, and that’s a loving, living family.
During the specific time that Jotaro and Polnareff spent hunting for the stand arrow, Jotaro found himself a wife and daughter, while Polnareff remained alone. It wouldn’t be shallow or unrealistic or out of character for Pol to sometimes indulge in imagining himself in Jotaro’s shoes, filling the whole in his heart left by Sherry and his mother. And it wouldn’t be too cruel to wish Jotaro was in Polnareff’s shoes instead, since you can’t convince me that a man so terrified of causing harm to his family intentionally procreated. Jolyne might be the best thing to ever happen to him, but that girl was an accident baby, and one he never fully learned how to adapt to. So, a body switch in which Polnareff gets to step into the role he used to have for his younger sister as a caretaker, while Jotaro enjoyed in his independence, might appeal to the deeper parts of Polnareff’s soul. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.
And the second idea, which feels a bit more like a stretch but I defined find just as interesting, would be Chariot Requiem’s power as a manifestation of surviver’s guilt. ‘I wish I could have taken your place’, taken completely literally. If he had Chariot Requiem’s abilities back at Dio’s mansion, Avdol’s body would have still been destroyed by Vanilla Ice, but Polnareff would have been the one to die. Same with Iggy, and with the bullet Avdol took for him back in India. Or the time Anubis turned his body against him and forced him to stab Jotaro. So many times, Polnareff must have wished to switch places with those who’d bleed and die for him. Chariot Requiem is that wish taken form.

okay so the milgram actors au. hm. basically the idea is that a bunch of these posters showed up around tokyo (I've arbitrarily defined that's where the characters are lol) asking for people to call a number and "audition" for some undefined something-or-other. obviously this is suspicious and not trustworthy! however, people Do end up showing up. because money and free food and it sounds funny. and some of the people that show up get casted on total accident, too!
haruka shows up because his sister decided to audition and he wanted to be there to cheer her on. he doesn't usually get the chance to go do things out in the world, thanks to a not-that-great mother who doesn't like it when haruka "puts himself on display" in front of the world. so then suddenly when his sister pushes him into the spotlight instead of doing her own audition, he panics! he's not used to this! and then he gets CASTED. because apparently he "brings what they've been looking for" for a certain role???
yuno shows up because her friends dared her to, and because her girlfriend promised to go with her and she absolutely can't resist that (plus it would be nice if they both got casted...) but she shows up on a day where she's pretty tired and very done with everything, so she thinks the audition's probably doomed. but no! her "cold and uninterested act" as they call it ends up winning over the judges, and they say someone as cute but as icy as her fits what they've been looking for really well!
fuuta is here because his sister, amane, made him be the one to bring her. she auditions and then runs around, terrorizes the staff, and quotes magical girl anime whilst fuuta scrolls tumblr. suddenly he is grabbed by the staff and made to audition. he's not happy with having to pretend to be a twitter user, but whatever, there's free food and he has to watch amane anyway.
muu and her girlfriend, rei, have both decided to audition, though rei's doing it in earnest because she's an amazing actress and muu is more here as emotional support and to be funny (she intends on auditioning badly on purpose to make rei laugh). but for some reason they end up liking her audition more??? apparently because she seems like she's pretending to be someone she isn't and they need a character like that??? okay then???
shidou honestly has no idea why he's here or what he's doing. actually, that's a lie, he's here because as a responsible adult and a doctor he wants to make sure that nothing unethical is happening and somehow he's ended up casted in a role and staying here for the foreseeable future. interesting!
mahiru promises she isn't the type to get peer-pressured, and the whole auditioning-for-the-mysterious-experiment because her girlfriend and one of her college classmates are both auditioning and it would be so much fun if they were all together doesn't count!!!!!! yay!!!!!! and apparently her audition goes super well, and the staff like her romantic ramblings about if she and her girlfriend get casted together! (plus there's this ADORABLE guy...... and wait, her qpp is here too??? yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
kazui fancies himself a pretty good actor and he's been depressed lately for essentially no reason, so. genius idea. he auditions for the weird mysterious experiment, meets new people, has fun acting (and singing, perhaps??), and stops feeling weird about the events of the past few months!
amane is ⅓ magical girl, ⅓ super-duper good singer, and ⅓ genius detective!!! so there's no way this'll go wrong!!! she's going to call the silly number and either get to be an actress and a singer, make an exposé on creepy and unethical activities, or bring down a corrupt scheme with her magical-girl purging powers and her warrior-of-justice brother by her side!!!!! and!!! she gets casted in the experiment thing!!! and she still gets to be a menace and a magical girl!!!
mikoto is not here of his own free will. two of his headmates decided it would be funny to call the number and sign up for an audition or experiment or whatever it's even called, and instead of being a good boyfriend and protector and reasonable person, john did nothing about the situation!! so now mikoto's here and sort of absolutely and completely clueless?? but it gets worse, because apparently his being completely confounded as to what's going on is exactly what they're looking for in one of the roles? (and apparently that role is their attempt at writing a plural character?? okay, then, fine! mikoto will stick with it and see where it goes!)
(note: in this au, mikoto is fully aware of his plurality. he has a number of headmates but three of them are featured regularly, those being john (his boyfriend and the system's main protector), rui (short for warui, ball of mischief having a Fun Time), and the kid (who is too indecisive to have a name and likes supporting rui in his chaos-sewing.)
kotoko is here because, uh. her qp girlfriend and that girlfriend's girlfriend brought it to her attention and she thought it sounded cool? she was in a band in high school, so she's got the singing part down, and she can act, so she's got the talent! plus, on the off chance that it ends up being all corrupt or fucked-up, she can totally bring it down with the help of a friend who's said he's auditioning too!
and yeah! that is the general idea :) might write and draw some stuff for it!!
(oh yeah also. they are all mutuals on tumblr. none of them know it but they certainly are!)
(also also, mahiru's girlfriend is yuno and her queerplatonic partner is kotoko. the guy she thinks is cute is shidou (he's not married irl.) the friend kotoko thinks she could bust the place with is fuuta. that's all!)

Welcome back to Alex's unhinged meta corner - although today it is less unhinged and more of a watertight analysis.
What I am about to present you is something most people have probably already noticed, but it has been three months and I still lose my mind while going through the final fifteen frame by frame (which is a normal thing normal people like us do, right? right).
You literally cannot convince me my following meta is wrong, and the only person whose criticism I will accept on this post is Michael Sheen and Michael Sheen ONLY. If you're not Michael Sheen (hi Michael Sheen who probably has a secret tumblr account) then your guess is as good as mine, though again, I think mine is solid.
So.
We all love and hate Aziraphale's "I forgive you", but what I find even more painful is the fact that before that he almost said "I love you". Then he stops himself and changes it, and the amount of micro-expressions on his face as he makes that decision is my current cause of death.
Here's the clip as evidence #1, and while it can definitely support itself, let's dive into the pain a little more, shall we?
One important thing I noticed is that Aziraphale doesn't look at Crowley while he stutters his way through his initial reaction. He blinks up at him for a few frames before averting his eyes again and only holds eye contact after the almost-confession (from here on referred to as IL-).
This is Aziraphale holding eye contact with Crowley (left) vs. him looking away (right):
Tumblr media
The frame on the left is from the I forgive you (IFY) part of the scene, the other one from right before IL-. If we go through the above clip little by little we will find that he avoids Crowley's face the entire time and his gaze slips further and further down, which I interpret as him overthinking/trying to come up with something to respond to this entire situation.
He is overwhelmed and surprised, caught between his two main desires: Crowley and being a Good Angel.
Combing through the frames, we can actually nail down exactly when Aziraphale first makes eye contact before the IL- and when he stops. Keep the above comparison in mind! The angle is slightly different because his chin is lower and he straightens up throughout the scene.
So! This is where he starts looking at Crowley:
Tumblr media
And this is where he stops:
Tumblr media
Hard to see? Let's zoom in on his eyes (numbers are the file names):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, you might ask me "Alex, this is all fine, although a bit insane, but why is any of this important?"
Because, fellow tumblr user and good omens enthusiast, I think that looking at Crowley is what changes his mind about what to say.
He doesn't look at him -> about to confess his feelings.
He looks at him -> says the absolutely worst possible thing.
Partly to hurt him because they're both lashing out at each other during this argument, but he looks at Crowley, looks at the person that just kissed him, that told him they could have been an us, that wants him and has always wanted him, screw everyone else.
He looks at Crowley and he wants to say l love you but then what? Once he says those words, he can't leave. He just can't.
We have to remember that they have existed within a complicated dance, a game that they have been playing for centuries without ever telling each other what that game actually is, what the rules are - because they couldn't. It was based entirely on trust and knowing the other person well enough to play it safe.
Crowley just flipped the playing board. Nothing is the way it should be, he is refusing to do their dance, refusing to play. He is looking at him and daring him to stop trying to put the pieces back on the board. The only thing neither of them has done yet is actually say I love you out loud.
Saying those words would mean stepping away from the playing board and acknowledging the room they have been playing in. It would mean saying fuck you to heaven, yes, but it would also force Aziraphale to finally define himself outside of the role he has been playing for both Crowley and heaven, and he isn't ready for that yet.
Additionally, there is the fear and/or knowledge (depending on what else the Metatron might have said or done that we did not see) that heaven will retaliate against him and Crowley if he disobeys them now, and he does not want to risk that either.
All that is what, in my opinion, happens in his head when he averts his eyes and interrupts himself. I do kinda what to make a whole different post about his facial expressions leading up to the IFY, so I will end this one with one more bit of pain.
Ready?
Firstly, the face he makes when he makes his decision.

Look at the tight line of his lips, the pain etched into his face, the pure pain in his eyes.
This is the face of someone who knows exactly how badly he is going to hurt Crowley and himself. This is an apology, an I'm sorry for what I'm about to do, this hurts me as much as it hurts you. I'm sorry but I have to.
Tumblr media
And then he winces afterwards. I don't know about you, but this is exactly the kind of face I make when I'm emotionally torturing myself with my own thoughts. For the final blow, please look at the picture very, very closely, especially the last frame, because Aziraphale isn't just sorry and he isn't just in pain.
Aziraphale is scared because he knows* that he might lose Crowley over this. He knows that saying I forgive you is (almost) unforgivable. He KNOWS.
He does it anyway because he will lose Crowley either way but he'd rather have him alive and hating him than dead.
With that I am concluding today's unhinged meta corner, thank you for your attention and you're welcome for the pain.
Also: If you want to call me a 'tin hatter' or insane or otherwise make fun of me - this is very much a girl, what were YOU doing at the devil's sacrament moment because you read my meta post all the way to the end. <3

it’s so interesting to me that vegapunk called joyboy the first pirate if we think about what that actually means.
it would make sense that in this case piracy is defined by what seems to be the “true meaning” in one piece — being free, and being on the sea. luffy becomes a pirate to be free, he defines the king of the pirates as the freest person in the world, joyboy is of course linked to complete freedom and liberation.
so joyboy took to the sea, which seems to have been something no one before him did (at least not as a lifestyle, maybe for trade and stuff), and did it in order to be free. we also know he was affiliated with (and potentially came from) the ancient kingdom, but probably decided to stop living there to become a pirate. so, to him, living on land/in the ancient kingdom was also restrictive.
we know the ancient kingdom had highly advanced technology (with a sustainable fire/solar source), and was essentially already living in the future (something maybe similar to egghead, but even more advanced because of the lack of resource constraints). but clearly, it had rules and maybe roles that someone like joyboy and luffy would have still found stifling.
the other thing that’s itching my brain is the relationship to the sea. we know that the sun/sea dynamic is important and symbolic in one piece in many different ways. the sun represents freedom, but so does the sea in some ways (at least living on it in the way pirates do). pirates (in the true/joyboy sense) live at the confluence of that freedom of sun and sea — you have to have both. not be trapped under the sea like fishmen, where certain resources are scarce, and not be bound to land where there are rules, structures, responsibilities and duties. even when those structures aren’t oppressive (like they currently are under the tenryuubito) they’re not what some people would consider freedom either.
so!! we know the sea is important. we know it’s likely only this planet has a sea/oceans (for example the moon doesn’t). the sea represents mother nature to some extent. we also know the sea is deadly to/hates devil fruit users, because they are unnatural (as material representations of people’s dreams). the sea, mother nature, is to some extent the material reality of the world — dreams can the impossible possible, can make almost anything real, are so so powerful, but they still have their limits in nature and the tangible world. there has to be balance.
this is also where we see the difference between luffy and blackbeard — blackbeard says there is no end to people’s dreams, luffy talks clearly about the end of his dream and what that looks like. freedom doesn’t mean constant accumulation and infinity and hunger to luffy, it is actually something material, collective and shared with everyone in the world. freedom is something everyone chooses for themselves in their own way, but freedom requires material conditions to be met (food, safety, companionship etc). and it is for everyone, not just the strong or the few lucky ones.
this is where i have been thinking about imu and the gorosei, and the theories around them. i know the main theory is that imu is linked to the sea somehow, and probably a/the sea devil. i don’t fully disagree, but i don’t think a) imu is the sea itself, more likely has managed to harness its power somehow. because to me the sea in one piece has to be a neutral, natural balancing force. and b) i think that if imu is closely linked to the sea, they can’t have made the devil fruits (ive seen that theory too). that wouldn’t make sense, since those two things are naturally enemies/opposed. and if vegapunk’s theory is right, devil fruits are unnaturally evolved from people’s dreams, which again contradicts the laws of nature/the sea. also, just in naming, the enemies of the gorosei are always called “devils” (of ohara, potentially the will of D), so it wouldn’t make sense for imu to have made the devil fruits (unless they did make them/their initial aspects but they were stolen or turned against them somehow). it still makes more sense to me that devil fruits came out of the ancient kingdom.
i do think imu is linked to the sea in that they want to use it for their purposes, i.e. flooding the world, and it’s strongly hinted they’ve done so before during the void century. they have some level of connection to it and maybe power over it (via the island-destroying weapon which is probably uranus). their preferred way of “cleansing the world” is through using the sea. but it’s also interesting that they want to be as far from it as possible, with marie geoise being high up and well-protected from the sea. to me imu is a “sea devil” (even in the imagery it’s clearly similar to an umiboshi) in the sense that it can use the sea to its purposes of control and destruction of freedom and dreams. i’m dubious that imu has a particular magical/power connection to the sea, but i could be very wrong on that.
to me pirates’ and joyboy’s connection to the sea, including their affiliations with the people of the sea (fishpeople, merpeople, etc) is actually much better stronger and deeper, even if it isn’t always a harmonious one. pirates and devil fruit users fear the sea to some extent because they respect it, and still they choose to be in relationship to it, just as they choose to be in relationship to risk, danger and death. they know it’s something that can check them, something that can take everything away. and that’s a much healthier, balanced relationship to something that is a pure, immense force of nature. nature humbles us, nature isn’t always nice, nature takes as much as it gives. that’s important, i think.
i would really love to see that last part play out somehow, in showing that people like joyboy, luffy etc can work with the sea and adapt to it. we’ve had hints of that with noah, and wano. the answer isn’t to isolate/save yourself and kill everyone else by keeping them down, it’s to work together to adapt. and i would love to see imu and the gorosei’s use of the sea for control and oppression fail in their world-flooding/cleansing plan because they haven’t accounted for people’s ability to do that.
the sea isn’t something you can escape or fight or fully control, it’s something you can only try and shape your own relationship to. you can’t fuck with the rules and cycles of the elemental force that is the sea, as we see with devil fruits. it is unimpressed with pure imagination/desire/dreaming. it says “ok, sure, cool dream. now what are you willing to risk and suffer because you are a part of this dirt-bound, salt-soaked world.” the sea requires body, flesh, blood, bone. the sea is the sacrifice made for the dream, the price you will pay if you reach the hubris of thinking you are beyond human and humanity. if the sun is the flame of hope and desire living in the heart, the sea is the muscle and sinew that has to carry the dream, and pay for it too.
(incidentally, this is also why i feel very sure the gorosei and imu actually are shit scared of the sea. we know the gorosei af least would be vulnerable to it too so i hope it gets them somehow lol).
there’s something perverse and twisted in imu’s use of the mother flame (something derived from the sun) for destruction, and i think their use of the sea parallels that to some extent. the sea, just as much as the sun, should not be controlled/used for those purposes. the sea represents a form of freedom too — what is, and changes, and supports the world like a shifting foundation. the sun is the freedom of what could be, what’s unreachable and intangible but consistently shining.
anyways it might be that the flooding just doesn’t come to fruition because luffy kills imu and the gorosei, which would make part of my theory moot (i wouldn’t be mad about it). but i also wouldn’t be surprised if we at least get some more sea level rise before that, to the point where it seriously starts to harm and endanger people.
just my insane rambling braindump after chapter 1114!! idk if it makes any sense but if you’ve actually read this far i am sending you flowers ✨

Gotham 2014 omegaverse hcs. Sorry
DISCLAIMER: This post was not made with the intent of it being gooning material. I am only making this post because taking this concept completely serious is the funniest thing to me and I have no motivation currently to finish my more serious Gotham posts. Enjoy my madness or stone me for it. Both choices are reasonable. Bruce, Ivy and Selina will not be included in this HCS list for obvious reasons.
Tumblr media
Jim- beta who pretends to be an alpha. Despite it being a system that he does not fit neatly under, he will still cling to it because the status quo is how he defines his world. Basically trying to fulfill an impossible ideal similarly to what he does with his work. I totally did not assign this to him as punishment. Fakes his smell with perfumes emulating how alphas smell.
Tumblr media
Oswald- I know it’s easy to assign Oswald as an overcompensating omega BUT!!!!! Alpha who pretends to be a beta. Hear me out. He already doesn’t fit in so him being an alpha that doesn’t fulfill the societal standard for them would be isolating. He would of course accept his difference just like he does with everything else that he has been bullied for, but it’s still a spot sore enough that he hides his true nature. Think similarly to him hiding his nature from fish. He would believe the societal standards for alphas and omegas are all bullshit so would just pretend to be a beta so he doesn’t have to think about it all. frequent blockers and perfume to hide his scent user.
Tumblr media
Edward- Omega that pretends to be a beta. Been doing this since leaving his father as both a way to ensure safety and so he would escape a role he was bullied and abused for all of his life. Just like Oswald, he also thinks the roles are completely idiotic and finds alphas just as overdramatic and illogical as omegas are claimed to be. He hates both sides for how much they cling to stereotypes and act like they’re all true no matter what. Nonetheless, he pretends he doesn’t feel this way most of the time since my boy is masking and trying to get people to like him. As soon as he’s the riddler he stops holding back those opinions. Abuses suppressants and hides his scent with perfumes even if he is riddler though. His ocd demons would get him if he didn’t. You know how Edward is
(Also. Nygmobblepot tanget here. Ed and Oswald would bond over having to pretend to be betas in this scenario. They would. They both feel isolated and belittled for their status whether it be they do not fit into the stereotypes or their role is used as justification for bullying. They would both feed into the others idea that they are superior to it all. And as soon as they start hating eachother in season three, they claim the other is acting just as how an alpha or omega would act to hurt them. Edward sees Oswald as an average abusive alpha who can’t control his anger or emotions and Oswald seeing Edward as an omega who THINKS he has escapes every stereotype of omegas when he embodies them constantly. Even in this fucking situation they find a way to hurt eachother. We gotta throw these two out)
Tumblr media
Leslie- my first conviction for her was Omega but like. I'm assigning her an alpha pretending to be an Omega idgaf it suits her. She did try to convince herself she was an omega for years but she couldn’t lie to herself forever. Since being an alpha is inconvenient to how she presents herself, she hides and represses it. Think like an extended version of the while Tetch virus inner darkness shit she had. This is the mindset I’m applying her. Uses blockers and tries to hide her scent but stops hiding her scent during the narrows arc because she sees no point in lying about who she truly is now.
Tumblr media
Barbara- Omega BUT!!!! Pretends to be an alpha post Arkham stay because she's insecure and wants to have power in some way. No one believes her. Abuses suppressants and perfumes season one for the reason stated above
Tumblr media
Tabitha- alpha. No comment.
Tumblr media
Butch- insecure beta. Not apart of this madness even if he unreasonably wishes he was a little bit.
Tumblr media
Fish- alpha. No comment.
Tumblr media
Bullock- alpha. A very backwards alpha to the point every time the Omegaverse roles get brought up around him it's fucking awful. Jim cringes from it. This doesn't stop him from fucking fish though that's a exception
Tumblr media
Lucius- beta. #notfreakyliketherestofyall #mightbethefirstfreakybetathoughsonevermind
Tumblr media
Kristen- beta BUT!!! Pretends to be an Omega all the time due to her history of dating alphas. Every alpha she's met has a major Omega bias and sees betas as kinda a dissapointment so she has been faking this shit for years. Tries to fake Omega traits and says she's on suppreants when it comes to her not having any heats. Edward was the first person she dated that made her feel like she could be more open due to his "beta" status (GIRL DON’T FOCUS ON WHAT ROLE HE IS!!!! RUN!!!!)
Tumblr media
Isabella- Omega. Genuinely the most stereotypical Omega known to man to the point every Omega besides Edward cringes from her behavior. Avoids suppressants to the point it teeters on self harm. Stand up.
Tumblr media
Jerome- Omega that pretends to be an alpha. Think of the damn imagery.
Tumblr media
Jeremiah- alpha that pretends to be a Omega. Wolf in sheep's clothing situation here.
Tumblr media
Zsasz- sterilized omega. No comment

Thoughts of Uther Pendragon
Hello hello. It's pretty obvious that hatred towards Uther’s character shades most of the fandom’s opinions. But it happens that I find his character pretty intriguing, mostly because the show doesn’t tell much about his past or things from his perspective which gives much room for interpretation.
So here’s another character analysis I’ve made of Uther. Take from it what you want. (In other words I’m not labeling him as ”good” or ”bad”, I’m simply inspired and wrote this analysis of a commonly not-so-popular character.)
Here are some more themes I’ve been thinking about:
Uther the warrior
Is Uther a lonely king?
Why are Uther and Arthur clashing so much?
Uther's attitude towards the old religion It's a relatively lengthy post so it's under 'keep reading'
1. Uther the warrior
Medieval times were times filled with wars. As far as I have understood, when the show begins, it’s the longest peaceful times for ages.
Backtracking a little… It’s not implied in the show but generally in the Arthurian legends Uther was trained to be a warrior since birth. He wasn’t a blood heir but he was given the position by another king which created a domino-effect of conflicts and more wars.
The way I see Uther in the show, he is still a warrior (regardless of his background the show doesn’t tell us). He never learned how to act or what to be when it’s finally peace. A king in wartime has a clear purpose: fight, conquer, and protect. But in peace? A ruler has to shift from being a warrior to being a diplomat, lawmaker, and administrator. They’re all roles that Uther doesn’t seem particularly suited for. For someone who’s spent decades defining himself through war and conquest, suddenly ruling a kingdom that no longer needs a warrior could make him feel directionless.
This scene between Uther and Nimueh pops up in my mind:
UTHER Don't ever speak of her in that way. She was my heart, my soul. And you took her from me.
NIMUEH She died giving birth to your son. It was not my choice. That is the law of magic. To create a life, there had to be a death. The balance of the world had to be repaid.
UTHER You knew it would kill her.
NIMUEH No, you're wrong. If I had foreseen her death, and the terrible retribution you would seek... I would never have granted your wish.
UTHER I wish you hadn't.
NIMUEH You wish you didn't have a son? Well, your wish will come true tomorrow.
UTHER I will not let you take him.
NIMUEH I have watched so many people I love die at your hands, Uther Pendragon. Now it is your turn.
”I wish you hadn’t.” The way I see it is that Uther regrets the mess he has made – not Ygraine’s death or having a son. He is lost, lonely and lives with the fact that he isn’t the best father to Arthur (and Morgana).
”You wish you didn’t have a son?” Btw, it’s Nimueh speculating. Uther replies, ”I will not let you take him.” He hates the stressfull situation he has created and put himself into – but he does not hate Arthur.
2. Is Uther a lonely king?
Uther still lives like a warrior, a war commander, because he doesn’t know what else to be. This could explain why he keeps such a tight grip on power: he might subconsciously provoke conflict (through harsh laws, executions, and persecution of magic users) because it keeps him in his psychological comfort zone. He’s paranoid, he rarely trusts anyone and he believes that peaceful times are only temporary. (”It’s peaceful – what’s wrong?” Nowadays we know it’s a sign of being unhealthily in a constant survival mode.)
I have seen some discussions about Arthur being a lonely prince and Merlin being one of the first friends (if not the first) with whom he can just be himself and have a genuine connection with. I think it’s the same with Uther. He has some other noble friends but as far as I’ve understood, Gaius is the only one he shares the more sensitive stuff with. Gaius is his trusted advisor.
Imagine being Uther – not daring to trust anyone, ruling a kingdom you fear might fall apart any moment, raising a future king some people apparently want to kill – and just… being lonely all the time. It’s a poisonous cycle, and it’s hard to find a way out of there. Being lonely yet not trusting anyone. Wanting to protect a future king and the kingdom, having to endure the hatred people have towards you. He’s not the type to give up. I think he believes that people hating him are a part of the deal, of being a king. He thinks you can’t please everyone and is more or less fine with it.
3. Why are Uther and Arthur clashing so much?
Arthur is growing up in a more stable kingdom and sees peace as something worth maintaining. He believes that a king should be loved, not feared.
Uther, on the other hand, sees peace as fragile, temporary, and believes that a king must always be ready for war. His training of Arthur is based on this: he wants Arthur to be a warrior first, a ruler second. But Uther doesn't necessarily know how to be a ruler. This is why they clash so much. Uther believes that Camelot is constantly under some threat - he's the warrior protecting his kingdom, eliminating enemies or possible enemies for the safety of Camelot's people. Whereas Arthur lives in the moment, treasures the peaceful times and wants to focus on the well being of Camelot's residents. He doesn't understand why the king should be feared. He wants a connection with his subordinates.
But in Uther's mind being loved means being weak. Love requires trust and trust is easily taken advantage of.
If Uther fought for his own throne or had to suppress challenges to his rule, then he knows how dangerous it is to be seen as weak. Even though the show portrays him as a rightful king (if I remember correctly), he still might have faced opposition early on (which typically happened with new kings during their era), and it shapes his paranoia about Arthur's future. This could explain his strictness with Arthur. He’s not just preparing him to rule but to defend his claim against inevitable rivals.
Even though Arthur is Uther’s son and an obvious heir, that doesn’t mean everyone will accept him unquestioningly. Nobles, rival families, and even former allies could see a young, inexperienced king as an opportunity to seize power (which, again, was typical in their era). Uther’s an elder man, he has first hand experience of these things. Uther’s harsh training of Arthur (forcing him into battles, making him prove himself constantly) isn’t just about strength for strength’s sake. It’s about making sure no one dares to challenge him when the time comes. And, the rivals aren’t even imaginary threats: the times someone tries to get rid of Arthur in the show… Phew.
It might seem heartless of Uther to not let Arthur go on quests to save servants etc, but honestly Uther’s actually being pretty smart since he doesn’t want to risk the life of Camelot’s future king. Uther is getting old and if his heir dies it opens possibilities for enemies to attack and try to take down Uther too. To take Camelot.
If you want to beat a group, an army or even a kingdom, you aim for the leader. Sometimes when kings fight in wars with their men, it’s quite easy to think that they're being cowards if they flee the scene when the battles get worse. But really, they’re being smart (or acting smart, who knows), because if the king is defeated, the whole kingdom is defeated. Nobody wants that because typically the new leader wants to shape the conquered area into their liking, which means that the people might lose their identity and are forced to submit to a new ruler's will.
Uther training Arthur sends mixed messages too. He wants Arthur to take part in tournaments and other competitions and quests to prove his strength, and these aren't always risk-free either. I think that Uther accepts these battles because he is there to oversee most of these happenings, he could step in if he considered it necessary. To protect his son. Also, these tournaments and quests carry a pretty huge reputation: people know and talk about these things. If Arthur survives or wins something, everyone will know about it. It builds his reputation as a strong heir, whereas going on a quest to save a servant etc. is not that grand of an event. Besides, I think Uther fears that enemies might take advantage of Arthur's soft heart. If he goes through that much trouble to save "just a servant", how easy it would be to manipulate Arthur into something more sinister?
Lastly, taking in notice that Uther doesn’t seem to trust anyone fully, who would he choose to be his follower had Arthur died?
4. Uther’s attitude towards the old religion
In the show, prophecies and destiny play a huge role in shaping events. A lot of the conflict comes from people trying to either fulfill or prevent prophecies and, to be honest, it doesn’t work that well even if the participants truly have good intentions.
If we look at it from Uther’s perspective, the old religion and magic users aren’t just dangerous because they have power – it's because they believe in forces like fate and destiny that they actively try to enforce. They manipulate people based on prophecies or visions. Uther might see them as dangerous not just because of their abilities, but because they shape events in unpredictable ways. Even when people (for example Merlin) try to prevent a prophecy, they often just make things worse.
Uther seems to be a person who does what he wants. He makes his own path based on his own reasoning – he doesn’t trust these visions or prophesies. Maybe because he knows how tricky they can be? Has he learnt something the hard way himself?
* * *
What do you all think? Would Uther have been less extreme if magic users weren’t constantly trying to reshape destiny? Would he have been a better king and a father had he found a way to drop the I-trust-no-one-and-rule-this-kingdom-alone thought?

Assorted fem!Laios fic ideas;
My hc name for fem!Laios is; Laima.
Tumblr media
Reasons:
Laima is the name of the Baltic goddess of fate, luck, motherhood, pregnancy, and children. Fem!Laios' life is defined by her role as a wife and mother, to the point that only a miracle could break her from the cycle.
Same amount of syllables. Laios = Lai-us. Laima = Lye-ma.
Move over the "I" and what do you get? Lamia. Aka; a mother driven so mad by the loss of her child that she is transformed into a man-eating monster. 👀
Tumblr media
Special interests were shut down hard as a child. Parents steered her towards more "traditional" goals of marriage and motherhood. Still extremely adventurous - she's ultimately still the odd child who put bug egg cases in her cupboard.
Tumblr media
Marriage was arranged by her parents. Going by Laios' timeline in the Adventurer's Bible; he was engaged even before he deserted the military
Tumblr media
There's two ways I can see fem!Laios going;
A: She has two or three children, as her canonverse fiancé has, and took the kids in the divorce. Her kids 100% sneak away from their babysitter to help find and save Aunt Falin, pretending to be grown halflings. One child is a powerful magic user, while another has feral child-strength.
B: One where due to fertility issues she simply never had a child within her marriage, but really wanted one. Was pretty much exiled by her husband's family due to being "cursed", causing her some personal trauma. Her greatest desire is intertwined with her want of children - even a monster such as a Harpy can be wonderful mothers, why can't she?
Kabru alludes to there being abnormal results when a pregnant person is revived within the dungeon, but is cut-off before he can fully answer. Fem!Laios better be keeping it safe if she decides on splunking, less she accidentally create a host for an unknown horror seeking escape from the dungeon. (*wink*)
Tumblr media
The imagery of motherhood and monsterhood intertwining to turn Laios/Laima from a "mere" housewife to a horror befitting primordial maternal entities like Echidna or Tiamat. (*chef's kiss*)
