freshman year fig is just the best.

she's mistrustful of every single person she meets except the guy she's convinced she can manipulate, bc she's that damn sure of herself. and she's teetering on the edge of a bunch of identity issues that she believes will be fixed the instant she finds her birth father. she shuns her mother and immediately loves everyone else's parents. she's dreaming of the bad kids as such good friends and she cannot physically keep it inside and as soon as she's called on it she calls them all losers and runs away.

she's one perfect encapsulation of a teenage girl who's literally just had the rug pulled out from under her, who just watched as the foundation of her person was shaken to the core.

jace i don’t feel good was so funny but also made me so sad. like that’s a teenager with a strawberry squishmallow keychain and a tamagotchi and she doesn’t feel good and she's tugging on a teacher’s sleeve about it. a teacher who should have been responsible for protecting her in the first place and didn’t. who is manipulating and using her and her friends to help fulfill the desires of a wrathful power-hungry egomaniac. porter and jace it’s on sight >:(

the fucking implications of porter (in the finale preview) talking abt how the bk were screwed over by aguefort while in front of the rat grinders. like one of these groups he somewhat likes and the other are disposable pawns. the tragedy of the rat grinders are that for everything that they stood for (equity/equality) is still not on their side in the end!! they haven't become the heroes, they've become the goon squad to the major BBEG!!!

Isn't it so funny Brennan really spent the entirety of Sophomore year going in depth on a major injustice that was done to a god, who we know as Cassandra, only to then in Junior year describe a heartbreaking situation where Cassandra's wife, Ankarna, was the god of Justice, but had her domain stripped until it was only rage and war. Isn't it so ironic that the justice Ankarna represented would have saved Cassandra, but it was already gone by the time Falinel and the Helioic faith stripped Cassandra of her followers and her faith, taking away her domain and her name, effectively killing her? Isn't it so funny that when Cassandra did get brought back (and no shade on Kristen) she was brought back by a cleric that didn't have the ability to spread the faith effectively and was ignored and sidelined until she became what she'd turned into when she had her name stripped from her? Isn't it so beautiful that her cleric, while fighting against her twisted spouse, enacted miracles for Cassandra and saved her wife with those miracles, bringing back the justice that would have allowed Cassandra to not only live but thrive? Isn't it so incredible that while Ankarna was twisted into rage the injustices against Cassandra went unchecked, but when she came back to her full domain Cassandra finally got was she deserved?

imelda was from the get go supposed to be the femme fatale but that makes her quick marriage to lance even more important to me

the femme fatale is often characterized as a someone that draws the detective into a mess of shit that usually gives “self destructive”, and originally this is set up to be hunch as her connecting detective but LANCE MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE

hunch has his own arc, the detective taking himself more seriously, a detective who makes himself known and finally gets proper recognition. meeting imelda didn’t ruin his life, nor does he revolve around her storywise.

so imelda hits all other femme fatale beats and doesnt Need a male counterpart but we also get TROPES!! she, a wanted woman who is known to the police as a mad-woman who turned from an honest life to crime, meets a police captain (basically stand in chief of police currently) and immediately smooth talks circles around him. lance questions his boss, his job, and his life to chase after this sudden Excitement that he hadn’t allowed himself. literally, brennan says that lance has never felt so Alive.

imelda, the true version of femme fatale, finds her cynical and disillusioned “right side of the law” man, lance, and immediately they run together. then we learn that lance’s concerns is the reason that copper is so easily found in mentopolis doubling down on the “morally ambiguous” trope. she doesnt look at lance and go, actually dont be so wary of everyone, she (because she is impulse and because of how aware she is of the situation they are in) connects to him on his need to just Act.

imelda pulse is such a good femme fatale character and her moment with lance has lived in my head all this week. i cant wait to see how fast this marriage falls out once elias is no longer in that all or nothing space, though trauma, maybe they will stick together for a little longer than any of us are ready for.
