Luz Appreciation Week Day 2 - Fangirl
Luz was excited.
For six months now, you have been waiting for this panel to finally arrive. It's been teased so many times, and the countless build up posts have made you crazy.
So when you finally saw that they were coming to Hartford you screamed, and then ran down to the kitchen to beg your mom to take you.
"It's on a Saturday mamí! You don't even have to go into the building, just drop me off for a few hours!"
Camila sighed and took the phone from your hands, squinting a little to read the words on the screen. The panel would have the writer of the Azura books, along with a few of the actors from the movie, and you have so many questions you need to ask. Like, why did the wand in book 3 break if it wasn't going to push Hecate's story into a hero arc?
"I don't know Luz . . ."
"Por favor mamí, I even have all the money saved up!"
Really it's just the twenty dollars you got from your 14th birthday and the change you kept from lunch money, but it's all the same.
Camila looks between the phone and you, puppy dog eyes at full power.
"Okay mija-"
"Yes!" You pump your fists for good measure.
"But! I'm going to go with you. Who knows, maybe I'll like it."
You kiss her cheeks to make her laugh and spend the rest of the day getting prepared. You'll have to bring your books with all of your annotations in the margins, and a list of question, and you'll have to make sure your Azura costume is clean and pressed right before.
Unfortunately for you, there's still school, so for the next week you'll have to endure students and teachers that don't understand your dramatic flair. Summer is still months away sadly.
The days roll by slowly, and you're smart enough to know that another trip the principals office will be the end of going to that panel. So you try to be good, or well, the schools definition of good, leaving your spiders at home and knocking your projects down a notch in terms of presentation.
Finally, it's Saturday.
"Luz, do I need to wear this?"
You had given your mother a red cape to wear, complete with a little hood. She refused to dye her hair get, but you'll take what you can get.
"Of course! I'm Azura," you point down to the purple dress on you, "and you're her mentor! They go through all kinds of adventures, and she teaches Azura a lot, especially during book two, although it would have made more sense to have her development be in book three with Hecate. I'm mean, the two of them do foil a lot, and come from similar backgrounds. Then book two could have been more lore!"
With all your rambling, you barely notice when Camila shakes her head fondly and guides you to the car, a smile on her face. She helps you into the passenger seat and buckles you in as you start to rant about book one now. Starting car, she pulls out of the driveway and starts the thirty minute drive to the venue.
"And that's why the wand should have just been fixed if Hecate wasn't going to be good!"
Camila laughs softly.
"I don't really get it, but it's nice to see you so involved in something."
"Mamí," She turns to you at the quietness in your voice.
"Gracias por llevarme aquí. No one else else gets it either, but at least you try."
It's silent for a second.
"Te quiero cariño."
She grabs your hand off your lap and kisses it, "those other kids are just bullies. Vamos a divertinos hoy, ¿verdad?"
You don't think you've ever smiled so wide, "Sí mamí"
When you make it to the venue, finding a place to park is terrible, and you have to be in the seemly furthest spot.
Camila helps you carry all of your stuff during the walk to the building, and for a second you think that made you over packed, but as soon as the doors open, it's gone.
There are booths everywhere, people selling little charms, and drawings, and fanfiction, and you kind of feel like you should have brought more. A majority of the people there are dressed up too, and you remind yourself to ask one of them how they got their ears to be so pointed.
"Come on, come on!"
Camila follows as you make your way to every booth. A girl dressed as Hecate sells you some stickers, and a guy who does an impressive impression of a goblin gives you a charm. You end up talking to a group of kids about the movies and their adaptation of the book while your mom talks to the kids parents. You're proud to note that she's the only one in a costume
When it hits two o'clock, you drag Camila to the room holding the panel, trying to find two seats closest to the front. It ends up being more in the middle, but at least you aren't like the people who have to stand in the back.
The author comes in first, and the subsequent screams of fans follow. Then the actors for Azura, Hecate, and a special guest.
"Hello everyone! How are you doing today!"
More screaming.
Camila is a little bewildered, but doesn't complain as you blow her ear drums out.
"We have a little surprise. This lovely person to my right," she points to the guest, "will be playing a new character found in my release of the fourth book!"
This is mainly how the rest of the day goes. Random hints for the next book, friendly banter between the actors, little prequels of the movies to come.
The highlight of the day though has to be when you went up for your questions. You, with your annotated books and pages on pages of analysis. For some reason, all your hard work payed off, becuase the next thing you know, you're being offered a picture with everyone on stage.
Your mother takes the picture, and then a selfie when you tell her to join. By the end of the event, you are the most well known person there. Some kids ask for your number to talk more, all running off with waves when their parents call.
Camila holds the things you bought on the walk back to the car, and you can't stop smiling.
"Did you have a good time mija?"
"The best mamí, thank you."
