Your soul contract requires you to let your emotions out and embrace them for what they are because you are human and that is part and parcel of being human. You have been put into bad situations mainly from the people you loved and looked up to and that hurt caused you to in a way close your heart off Your soul contract needs you to look back at all of it learn from it and open up your feelings again instead of lying to yourself that you are this cold, unaffected person when in reality you are a sensitive soul and that is who you always will be. You need to learn to embrace that gentle nature of yours because it's not going anywhere, it's part of you in this life and the next.

Your soul contract is in relation to work and career. For you it is more so you are forced to conform to a certain societal standard in relation to career, basically picking more traditional careers like being a doctor, lawyer, engineer etc and deep down you know that's not what you want. You may come from a more conservative family. Your soul contract requires you to find a career that actually makes you happy, that doesn't really on other people's feelings and approval towards it. Once you let go of this you will open up a door that will flip your life upside down, making you happier and opening you up to greater more exciting opportunities that most people won't get.

You are the black sheep (most of you ended up becoming spiritual like tarot readers, astrologers, reiki healers in an attempt to heal and find your place) always have been always will be, you may have been bullied, treated badly by the people you care about or those closest to you (in proximity). The basics of your soul contract start off with a tough childhood, you may have been shackled to the expectations of your family. Regardless, you have been put through situations that left you frustrated, upset, stressed and feeling like there is no way out or that there is nothing better out there for you. The basics of your soul contract need you to heal from all this hurt and trauma and once you do you will open yourself up to greater opportunities, you can't be in two places at once so your choices are live in the hurt and pain or heal and let the universe open the door to bigger financial, living and relationship opportunities.

For you there is a lot of karma in relation to relationships with other people in your life, you gave your all for and to other people just to be backstabbed and betrayed by the people closest to you to the point of maybe isolating yourself and believing that there is nothing good in terms of relationships for you. Your soul contract urges you to learn from those experiences. Not everyone is going to be your friend. You need to make peace with the fact that you are different and not everyone is going to appreciate it there is a negative and positive to everything you need to learn to sieve it out as well as the people in your life. Learn what you need and leave out what you don't especially in relationships. You are a people pleaser and that is not in your contract to be one.

The basics of your soul contract is to nurture both your emotions and your divine feminine. In the past you may have felt like you don't have control over yourself that other people are shackling you which has toughened you out and, in the process, you neglected your feminine and emotions. Now the basics of your soul contract urges you to be gentler, more fluid, to find peace in the toughest situations and be able to make choices without compromising your own emotions, values and beliefs. Your soul contract wants you to learn how to balance the masculine and the feminine know which to use in what situation instead of one over the other.

i don't get the sense you are new to the spiritual practice realm. however, your guides want you to reconnect with your beginner's mind - slow down. stop consuming so much info and/or huge concepts. digest what you have read and sit with what you know. going back to a practice you used to do daily (like journaling, nature walks, and/or altar tending). go back to basics or relearning a tool (tarot, reiki, and/or energy work). getting out of your head and back into your who being. it's not just the mind that has to be sharp.

i think your guides miss you!! time for some spiritual reconnection - i mean it could either be with yourself, your guides, or someone physically present in your life of course. the main point is cultivating a sacred partnership. do some mirror work or heart chakra based self-love rituals. deepen your relationship with your guides like you would a best friend or lover: talk to them, leave them offerings, invite them in, etc. practice some heart-opening meditations or breath work.

you may be avoiding routines that feel "boring," but your guides say that's where the magic lies for you and your technique. you don’t need something flashy. you need rhythm. create a schedule - even if it's a loose one - do some cleansing, grounding, and/or gratitude work. stick with it even when it’s boring or you’re not "feeling it." bring your spirituality into your everyday, not just the ritual parts i just mentioned but the mundane parts too. washing dishes? practice a charm. walking? ground with the earth.

your guides are also asking you to break away from traditional and rigid spiritual beliefs - even if they are something you've created for yourself. so practice challenging spiritual "rules." practice honoring what feels real for you, not what’s "correct" by the community's standards. try something totally unorthodox: create your own spells, reject a common belief, challenge someone who claims to know all, etc. they want you to practice de-conditioning your spiritual life from authority - whether external or internalized - becoming your own guide.

In terms of timing, the page of pentacles represents several months. Now if we look at the meaning of the page of pentacles, it talks about education. The page is a learner, a student in matters of material aspects. Combined with the Higher perspective card, this definitely gives me the feeling of going back to college. Or getting a training in something very specific. Potentially something involving spirituality. Like taking reiki courses or tarot reading lessons. So I feel this person is a teacher or a mentor to you. With the Bismuth card, I feel like this person will be opening doors for you. And that could be litteral because the door of my room opened out of nowhere as I was trying to get more information from the card. Higher perspective is related to Ether. This means to me that you will meet at a point in your life when you wish to evolve, to embody a better version of yourself and seek to gain knowledge or power.

WHERE? - King of cups / The Explorer / Malachite : claim your success.

We already had kind of a hint with the previous section. And I feel like it’s further confirmed by these cards, especially the Malachite card. Now if we talk about geographical indicators, water seems to be relevant. Also on the Explorer card there’s a compass. So it tells me that where you meet them, there is either a plan or something related to navigation or orientation. Also when looking at this card I heard "you already know where to find them". So it gives me the strong feeling that many of you already know this person and already met them. It’s just that you didn’t consider them your FS. Also the malachite card mentions the workspace. So you could work together. Or you’re doing the same job and you go to them for advice. Also the king of cups card depicts a man sitting on a thrown spilling water in an ocean of sharks. So this also tells me there’s a lot of competition where you meet. And it’s like this person is trying to educate or heal the sharks somehow.

In terms of countries, we have : Colombia, Brazil, Zambia, Zimbabwe, USA, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Australia. Now, in terms of where you could meet, I'm not getting much from these cards. It's like your FS wants to play hide and seek. They're not really comfortable sharing where they are. The only thing I'm picking up on is somewhere where the law is involved. So it could be an administration, a police station, law school, a lawyer's office, a prison. With the get wild card, the only hint I can get is that it can get intense. I asked for a card to clarify the Queen of swords and I got the 9 of pentacles. So law and money are involved. So maybe a bank or an insurance company. Or somewhere businesses and entrepreneurs go to get advice on how to invest their money or know if something they intend to do is legal or not.

do you see this tendency of people to believe telepathy is real (re: TTT / the commenters on your substack essay) as at all connected to like, how widespread belief in astrology is, and people talking about being witches and doing magic and casting spells, and other similar very woo stuff? it seems like a lot of people are very invested in what i would see as being Fake Shit, obviously some of which is much more harmful than others, and they don’t seem to understand that this thing they expect everyone around them to also believe is true is actually like a supernatural belief or whatever that other people should not be expected to also believe in

I think the cultural and ideological pathways of some of these things can be fairly different. We should be very precise about the mechanisms through which the extreme conspiratorial ideological capture happens and how and why it does.

On the one hand, there is a clear throughline connecting a variety of types of "Conspiritualist" thinking that radicalizes people -- parents who cannot cope with their kids' Autism initially invest their hopes in special gluten-free allergen-free diets, then have Reiki performed on them, then shell out thousands of dollars for dubious untested supplements, then become antivaxxers and claim their children have telepathy and vote for Robert F Kennedy Junior. These beliefs progress in intensity and remove from reality, and they're linked usually to organizations or spiritual leaders who profit off of people and move them forward along the radicalization pipeline.

Similarly, there's a spiritualist/reactionary ideological pipeline that begins with being deeply fatphobic and obsessed about fitness and clean eating that morphs into regular enemas, eating nothing but raw meat, taking Joe Rogan supplements, eschewing all medicine, and voting for conservatives.

Those ideological pathways are quite different from the ones followed by a queer witchy type who initially got into tarot or pendulum-reading as a conscious fuck-you to the homophobic Christianity that they were raised with. I do not see the degree of radicalization happening there that you see with the right-wing conspiritualists and I think it's somewhat messy to conflate the two.

If a person gets into astrology as an queer-dating icebreaker or takes a spellcasting class at the local witchy bookstore, it progresses to, what? Buying too many decorative crystals? Maybe refusing to have a Virgo as roommate? There's biased, unscientific thinking happening here but there simply isn't a massive industry in place devoted to capturing this group, isolating them, leeching them of huge sums of money, and moving them further down an ideologically extremist pipeline.

Of course both communities share interests at times -- astrology, alternative medicine, white person pagan bullshit -- but I think we should be really precise about exactly what's going on here because it's not the case that the bulk of the damage is being done comes from people having a silly hobby or believing something untrue. (Most humans do to some extent). There is a significant difference between owning a few spiritually elevated good-luck items on the one hand, and becoming completely isolated from anyone who believes differently from yourself, eschewing all medical care and educational resources for you and your family, depending upon predatory hucksters and joining hate movements on the other.

There are spiritualist/woo woo communities that capture individuals and move them further along the pipeline of far-right radicalization but picking up a Chani Nicholas book or a steven universe tarot deck is just not gonna lead to that.

Jude’s No Games AU: Touch Therapist!Gihun x Cop!Inho

I’m not one who usually writes AU’s, but this idea has rooted itself in my head and is refusing to leave. So picture this: no games, no Frontman, no blood-soaked island. Just Inho, a veteran cop with a body that’s falling apart and a heart that’s been quietly shattering for years. Decades of duty have left him knotted with pain—both physical and otherwise. He sleeps in a chair more often than in bed. His joints ache like betrayal. His wife’s gone, and he still hasn’t figured out how to grieve out loud.

Enter Junho. The younger brother who still looks at Inho like he’s worth saving, even when Inho’s forgotten how to feel anything but duty and exhaustion. Junho’s the one who finds the flyer for a small clinic on the corner of a quiet street: Healing Touch with Seong Gihun – Soul-Centered Massage Therapy. Inho almost tears the flyer in half from secondhand embarrassment.

He only agrees to go to shut Junho up. He’s expecting overpriced oils, new-age music, and some guy named Sky offering Reiki and fake smiles. What he gets is Seong Gihun. Too handsome. Too gentle. Too genuine. A quiet warmth in his voice that throws Inho off more than it should.

Inho tries to stay closed off during the session—tense muscles, sharp answers, zero vulnerability. He’s just here for a massage. His body is a fortress—walled off, weather-worn, and locked down tight. Every muscle holds decades of service, of grief, of unspoken things. His shoulders live perpetually tensed. His jaw is a clenched fist. Even lying on the massage table, he stays braced, like kindness might be another form of attack.

Yet Gihun doesn’t rush. He doesn’t fill the silence with small talk or try to pry anything loose with words. He just starts at the top of Inho’s spine and works downwards, his hands firm but not forceful. The touch isn’t showy—it’s deliberate, attentive. Like he’s listening through his palms.

When Gihun reaches his lower back, Inho flinches without meaning to. The tension there is old, deep, almost personal. Gihun doesn’t react. He simply adjusts his pressure and stays with it, his presence steady, patient. It unnerves Inho how quickly his body starts to soften under the weight of it.

Then there’s the chest work; something Inho hadn’t even considered. Gihun places one hand over his sternum, the other cradling the base of his skull. There’s nothing harsh about it, nothing overt. Just warmth. Stillness. A kind of gentleness Inho forgot existed. He wants to scoff at the word “soul healing” but for some reason, his throat feels too tight to say anything at all.

Eventually, Gihun moves behind him and slowly brings him up into a seated position. Inho barely has time to process it before he feels Gihun’s chest at his back, arms wrapped around him in a way that isn’t restraining but supportive—like a shelter. He starts to rock them both, gently, rhythmically. Not a technique Inho’s ever experienced before. It’s disarming.

Soothing.

Safe.

That’s when it happens.

It’s not loud at first. Just a breath caught wrong, a sudden shiver through Inho’s ribs. Then the tears come—hot, quiet, and relentless. Not performative. Not cathartic. Just something ancient finally given permission to move. Gihun says nothing, doesn’t shush him, doesn’t try to fix it. He simply holds Inho as he rocks him, thumb stroking slow circles against his chest like a heartbeat he’s lending out.

Inho doesn’t remember the last time someone held him like this. Doesn’t remember the last time he let anyone see him like this. And somehow, Gihun doesn’t ask for anything in return. Not a confession. Not even eye contact. Just presence. Just care.

Afterward, Inho sits in his car for almost thirty minutes, staring at the steering wheel, trying to convince himself that it was just pressure points and mood lighting. That it didn’t mean anything.

But the next week, he makes another appointment. Doesn’t tell Junho. Doesn’t need to.

The thing about Potters is that when they love, they love hard.

You see, Charles Potter fell in love with a Black, Dorea Black to be exact. Their love was something no one had expected for both sacred families. It is far from pure but it is so good that both families had no choice but to accept it. A love built from obsession. An obsession that goes both ways, perhaps that's why they couldn't break them from each other. Because like the Potters, when a Black loves, they will do anything to keep their significant other, hence the obsession.

Black Madness is what they call them. Though unlike the other Black's, who used that madness for the belief of saving purebloods through inbreeding, Dorea used that madness for her love. Her soulmate. An example that Andromeda Tonks neé Black used when she married her muggleborn husband, Ted Tonks.

Then came in Fleamont Potter, the son of the famed Potter-Black couple. When he loved, he loved like the hardness of the stone Obsidian. He was stubborn and reckless but when he loved, he made sure to get it in the end no matter how long. That is when Fleamont and Euphemia came together. Their love was made from stubbornness, the opposite of his parent's.

Although there was the obsession that his parents had for each other, that fueled the stubbornness in Fleamont. Both had that trait and you know what they say, having a match is made in heaven. That was what it felt like for them. Both had so many similarities that were used in a different way, yet it was perfect for the both of them and that was how their love goes beyond. Just like Charles and Dorea.

Next came James Potter, the son of the dedicated couple. He was a young man who loved from afar, but it was just as hard as the previous Potters. James had his father's stubbornness as well as his grandfather's obsessive trait. He was obsessed with Lily Evans, a ginger haired young woman who was kind and sweet as well as smart and dedicated to her passions.

He chose to show that obsession with his stubbornness to have the young woman in his arms by publicly courting her. His love was made from infatuation. He was infatuated with everything he saw on Lily the moment he laid his eyes on her. It was a dangerous trait, especially when it is mixed with the type of love the previous Potters had. What he didn't know before was that Lily Evans was the same.

She would never admit it but she was just as infatuated to him just as he was to her. This showed when her eyes constantly moved towards his figure whenever he came in the room, how she always kept his letter underneath her bed in a small box. It showed when she smiles when she sees him so happy whenever he had done something he wanted and accomplished and it also showed whenever he had done something for her without her asking for it. The flush of her cheeks said so.

Then came Harry James Potter. Oh how dangerous his love was.

The way he loved was dangerous. The Black Madness never skips the members of the family, that's why whenever a Potter loves, it's hard and dangerous. It was just never showed much in the surface, but boy oh boy did it show when Harry loved.

Harry loved in a twisted way, it was dark and intense but somehow it was pure, in some sense.

It was pure because Harry grew up never knowing what love was, he never knew the meaning of it, never knew what the feeling of it was, until he met you.

You were like a field filled with different types of flowers, breeze flowing through his hair like you were caressing it, air so fresh he thought he was tainting it, the warmth you oozed was something he never felt before and for that his love for you was pure.

But for others, it is not.

But it's not like any of you cared, now is it?

Just like his, you loved him hard. It was maddening on how you would keep giving him a new reason to love you and keep you forever in his arms away from everyone else because you love him.

Sickening.

But it takes one wicked to love another.

When a Potter loves, they love hard, but that does not mean it does not go both ways.

This was something Minerva "Minnie" McGonagall has noticed throughout her years in Hogwarts. Everytime a Potter fell in love, the love in question would reciprocate that feeling with the same intensity albeit different in ways.

Just like when she was peers with Charles and Dorea Potter. She noticed they type of love the male Potter had towards the female Potter, it was filled with obsession towards one another and she saw that Dorea reciprocated that obsession through getting every thing that reminded her of Charles Potter, while said Potter showed that obsession through taking every bit of her presence through moving pictures as well as buying things that she liked. He was obsessed with her whole being as she is to him.

She noticed a different type of love when she became a professor with Fleamont Potter, the son of the obsessive couple she was peers with. Fleamont's love towards Euphemia was stubborn. The type of love that he showed towards the young lady through the excessive courting to which the young lady reciprocated. Euphemia was competitive, so she courted the male Potter with same stubbornness. That was their love.

The next was the couple's son, James Potter. She saw the love was fueled with infatuation. James used his father's and grandfather's techniques to courting Lily Evans. While she rejected him multiple times before sixth year, she showed that reciprocation subtly but just as hard to James. Differences aside, Minerva saw that whenever a Potter loves hard, the significant other always loves just as hard. It was like a blessing disguised as a curse or was it the other way?

So when she saw how Harry loved you, she knew that no matter how hard people will try to separate you both, it'll only make you both yearn for each other more. That is not what she wanted, as she had seen what separation does to the Potters and their significant other.

She almost saw murder right before her eyes.

That's why when a Potter loves, they love hard.

And it was true as Harry Potter stood over a bloodied limp body on the ground with his fists tightened in a clench. Panting heavily as rage waved over his shoulder. He was pissed off, feral even.

Minerva observed the scene with wide eyes as disbelief was visible in her posture. When she said she almost saw murder when a Potter was separated from their love, she didn't mean this. Because when Charles was separated from Dorea by the Blacks, he went feral, he planned a massacre but it was not executed, thankfully. But Harry Potter, oh this powerful male.

He had just committed something the previous Potters didn't do due to their love stopping them, but this time Harry was not stopped. Why? Because his love was in the Hospital Ward of Hogwarts, bloodied and wounded deep because of the person who was now beneath Harry Potter, limp and lifeless.

The Boy-who-lived just committed murder in front of everyone in the Hallway.

It was sickening.

Kuwabara's last name is drawn from the Japanese phrase "kuwabara kuwabara" くわばら くわばら to ward off Lightning aka Bad Things like death, danger and bad luck, but written with the characters for Mulberry Field 桑原 instead, and GUESS WHAT - Mulberry has Divine significance in Japanese culture, is associated with the Sun God (Kuwa’s Reiki is Gold, like the sun), and items made from Mulberry wood are traditionally gifted to Japanese royalty, which Yusuke turns out to be!

Yusuke literally gets struck by Suzaku's lightning, tortured and nearly killed the minute he's separated from Kuwa in 4 beasts arc - more signs that Kuwa really is Yusuke’s Divine Protector who's been warding off lightning (Bad Things) from Yusuke just by being there, and their separation has immediate catastrophic impact on Yusuke coz Yusuke's not yet strong enough to fend off these threats on his own!

I know Togashi claims he came up with the Mulberry Field 桑原 characters for Kuwa's last name by combining characters from baseball players' names, and he very well may have done so, but considering the depth of Mulberry references throughout canon that we'll see in the full meta, you be the judge whether Togashi was also thinking of Mulberry's connotations when he picked these characters! Especially since at the end of the manga, there's a lot of seemingly throwaway lines about how both the Sky and the Sea are the same blue color, and how Yusuke told a half-truth about his real reason for picking the blue button in the 3-buttons mission! (This deserves its own meta another time!) I read this as 4th wall hint that Togashi was drawing from both Mulberry's divine symbolism and baseball players' names when he picked the characters for Kuwa's name, but he told a half-truth that he was only thinking of the baseball players! 🤣

Given the double Divine Protector symbolism in Kuwa's last name (from lightning ward and Mulberry) and the True Harmony meaning of his first name, Kuwa's literally made by his creator to be Yusuke's Divine Patron Saint who protects Yusuke from Bad Things coz Kuwa's in True Harmony (True Love) with Yusuke!

I read Yusuke's Good Luck in his fights throughout Genkai's succession trials as Kuwa's High Reiki unconsciously or semi-consciously increasing Yusuke’s Good Luck to save Yusuke from death or serious injury, as per the mini meta in the End Notes of The Good Fight Chapter 7!

Even if you choose not to take this read, who can forget Kuwa's SOUL literally left his body to save Yusuke from the demon fish in Rando fight? 🤯

Seriously, I L❤️‍🔥ve Togashi's audacious True Harmony soul bond subtext! 🤣

There’re SO MANY times when Yusuke's opponents are outright surprised that Yusuke somehow has Reiki reserves when he shouldn't have any left, or they straight out say Yusuke's protected by stronger Reiki than expected (e.g. Rando fight, Suzaku fight, Toguro fight) - I read this as canon BOTH foreshadowing Yusuke's Mazoku heritage AND hinting that Kuwa's protecting Yusuke as his Divine Patron Saint by contributing his Reiki to Yusuke through their True Harmony Soul Bond connection! 

Of course, this can be read as just Yusuke's Mazoku heritage giving him deep Reiki reserves & protection, but consider this! Yusuke's Mazoku Reiki is Red! In all these instances when Yusuke has unexpected Reiki reserves, his Reiki is BLUE!

Guess what else is the exact same blue? Kuwa's SOUL is literally blue when he saved Yusuke from the demon fish in Rando fight, and immediately afterwards, Yusuke escapes the demon fish in a spectacular explosion of Blue Reiki, the same color as Kuwa's SOUL! We only see Kuwa's Soul return to his body after Yusuke escapes!

In final Toguro fight in the Dark Tournament, after anime Yusuke fires his last Rei Gun and has no Reiki left, Hiei tells us Rei Gun's power is still going after leaving Yusuke's finger! There's a mysterious background music when this happens, and key characters look surprised! I read this as Kuwa (who was playing dead 🤣) contributing his Reiki to Rei Gun!

Their Reiki literally becomes ONE after Kuwa gives his lifeforce to save Yusuke post Suzaku fight as per the pics at start of this post! and it's Gold, Green, and Blue to represent Kuwa, Yusuke, and their Soul Bond respectively! Reiki is basically the energy of your heart, spirit and SOUL, so this is canon visually showing us they have a True Harmony Soul Bond! Just look at how epic our heroes are with their ONE Reiki!

Greek culture even has a star-crossed lovers story associated with Mulberry trees (which inspired Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet), where the lovers are thwarted by family circumstances, life-threatening danger, bad timing, and one party jumping prematurely to the wrong conclusion, which then leads the other party to follow suit -- all these elements appear in the Kuwameshi Love Story! Proof points in full meta!

The COUNTLESS times Yusuke and Kuwabara are in sync and mirror images of each other, and how they’re literally Two Souls in One Body when Yusuke possesses Kuwa’s body pre-revival, and then One Soul in Two Bodies for the rest of canon when Kuwa stands with Yusuke through thick-&-thin, and Yusuke follows Kuwa's moral code right back, eventually setting up the Makai Unification Tournament with Kuwa's 1-1 fight code, which prevents an all-out war, all its unnecessary bloodshed, and brings about Peace!

Preventing a war that's hundreds of years in the making is as good as Divine Intervention warding off catastrophe, just like saying "Kuwabara Kuwabara" wards off death and lightning strikes!

Even birds as symbol for Kuwameshi romance has Divine connotations in real-world Japan!

Sacred Mulberry wood symbolically expels evil in real-world Japanese rituals, same as how Kuwabara (literally Mulberry Field) expels the "evil" of Yusuke's inner demons from Yusuke's heart, the inner demons being Yusuke's distorted view of himself as a "bad, violent, good-for-nothing fuck-up unworthy of love", deep emotional pain, anger, and self-loathing.

There's even a manga pre-revival story (the 2 female best friends) that parallels this! Not to mention Kuwa literally manifests his Gold Rei Ken for first time using a broken piece of Musashi's wooden sword made from sacred wood!

And in the manga pre-revival story of the Old Man & the Raccoon, a wooden branch prevented the trap from closing fully around the raccon, thus preventing death or serious injury, foreshadowing how Kuwa likewise prevents the trap of the Dark Tournament from closing fully around Yusuke, preventing death of Yusuke's SOUL and True Self! Sacred wood, divine providence, and soul references abound throughout canon! Deets in full meta!

Given the massive weight of evidence that we see in the full meta, what else is Togashi showing us, other than two lovers forging a Soul Bond and becoming ONE?

Summary: Kurama goes Feral. It's more amusing than one would think. (1000 ish words, humor and friendship)

“Uh… what is happening here?” Yusuke asked, staring at a scene he hadn’t quite expected to walk in on.

Hiei at Yusuke's side, simply nodded along, his eyes fixed on the scene before him.

Kuwabara, battered and bruised, with some silver cuffs on his wrists that suppressed his Reiki, was sitting awkwardly, more or less in Youko Kurama’s lap. The great Youko had his arms wrapped around Kuwabara’s waist and was alternating between rubbing his face against the back of Kuwabara’s throat, cheeks, and the top of his head. Youko's white silvery tail was thumping loudly against the floorboards, as he cuddled and nuzzled against Kuwabara, whining like an overexcited animal.

“...Uh… well…” Kuwabara shrugged, going through a series of sounds as he tried to find the words to explain his odd situation, “Uh… the guy who captured us injected Kurama with something that turned Kurama into his Youko form… but he’s all… kinda feral now? He won’t talk to me either, he just makes these noises…”

Kuwabara was cut off as Youko let out a stranger chattering sound, followed by a keening yip, and then proceeded to cuddle Kuwabara harder. He buried his face into the back of his throat, his tail wagging even more enthusiastically.

Kuwabara sheepishly pat Kurama's leg and with a touch of embarrassment, but plenty of affection, cooed, "Yeah, you're just a sweet guy, ain't ya Kurama?"

“He’s become a cuddle monster,” Yusuke managed incredulously, his voice a mix of awe and delight. It seemed he might laugh at any moment, but was somehow managing to keep the amusement at bay, if at least for his own safety.

“The demon who captured you both and drugged Kurama. Where is he now?” Hiei asked stepping into the room. He was doing much better than Yusuke at keeping a straight face, though his eyes were rather wide.

Kuwabara smirked, and then gestured to the corner by their door, “Oh, well. I guess the guy was hoping Kurama was gonna like eat me or kill me, or something other than cuddle me. But Kurama sniffed me, and just started to cuddle, and it pissed the dude off. He got real pissy about it.”

A bubble of laughter snuck out of Yusuke’s throat as he started to reach his breaking point of keeping a neutral expression.

Kuwabara lifted his voice and continued to speak over him as he kept up with his explanation, “So the guy came towards us, clearly ready to do something to us, or well, really me. And Kurama attacked him. Just leaped at him with this ferocious snarl, fangs out, claws out, and boom! Snapped his neck, and left him in the corner!” Kuwabara lifted his cuffed hands and pointed to the corner of the room by the door again.

Yusuke and Hiei stepped further into the room and peeked behind the door. There, slumped in a heap, was the demon who had abducted Kurama and Kuwabara several hours ago.

Yusuke lost it, “Oh my God. I’ve been scared shitless, and Kurama, in a feral state, just snapped a dude’s neck that we couldn't take out as a team! And he’s here cuddling you like you’re his kit!” He threw back his head and laughed, ignoring Kuwabara who snapped at him to shut it.

Hiei stepped further into the room, and Kurama suddenly darted at him.

Yusuke’s amusement fell away as he tensed with worry, but it was unnecessary.

Kurama had rushed Hiei, sniffed him, and then made another high-pitched keening sound, and began to rub himself against Hiei, cuddling and nuzzling Hiei as if he was greeting an old friend. Kurama had even gone as far as dropping to his knees, so he could tuck himself under Hiei’s chin, and nuzzle at the fire demon’s throat. 

Hiei smirked at Kurama’s behavior, and chuckled, “Putting Kurama in a feral state was a foolish thing to do. We have Kurama’s scent on us. Even in a feral state, he would be able to recognize his own scent on someone and know if it made them his enemy of friend. He most likely regards us as his pack mates; his family.”

“That would explain why he keeps trying to feed me rats,” Kuwabara sighed, holding out his hands towards Yusuke.

Understanding immediately, Yusuke approached Kuwabara and carefully snapped the cuffs off, the silver shackles falling to pieces on the floor. Kuwabara sighed with relief and rubbed his wrists, before he stretched his palm and sent a sparkle of his Reiki over his hands. “Oh thank goodness. It’s back.”

“Kurama’s been trying to feed you rats?” Yusuke asked, sliding under one of Kuwabara’s arms, and hauling the large man to his feet.

Bruised and aching, but not too bad off, Kuwabara kept a hand curled around Yusuke’s shoulder and leaned on him for support. “Yeah. There were rats in the room. Kurama hunted them down, and he’s been trying to get me to eat them!” Kuwabara gave a sheepish grin, and gestured to a thin blanket behind them, “I’ve been stuffing them under there to appease him!”

Yusuke started to laugh again when the yipping Youko was suddenly invading his space. He snipped Yusuke’s cheeks, and neck, and then made a pleased, “mrrr,” sound before cuddling into Yusuke’s space, and rubbing his cheek against Yusuke’s throat.

“Whoa! Whoa!” Yusuke gasped, half laughing, “Wow, he’s happy to see us.”

“This isn’t like… gonna be forever is it?” Kuwabara asked, reaching out to gently pet one of Kurama’s long ears.

Kurama purred and then gave Kuwabara’s chest a nuzzle, happy for the attention.

“I have an idea of what they gave him, so I’m sure it’ll wear off,” Hiei said, grinning at Kurama. Kurama for his part, saw Hiei’s grin and rushed back to Hiei to rub against him a few more times before darting back to Yusuke. Kurama bounced between his three friends, yipping and whining, his tail wagging rapidly with excitement.

“He’s going to be mortified!” Hiei added with a cackle.

“Well, let’s head on out. We can stop by Koenma’s, or go see Yukina. Someone. Let’s make sure we fix this,” Yusuke sighed, grinning at Kurama as he affectionately nipped at Yusuke’s jawline. Yusuke used a free hand to gently push Kurama away, and chuckled, “While I bet his mom would love a more cuddly Kurama, we can’t let him stay like this for too long.”

“He’ll follow us right?” Kuwabara asked, limping as Yusuke helped to guide him out of the room.

“Oh, I don’t think we have to worry about that!” Hiei snorted, holding the door open for Yusuke and Kuwabara. The moment the pair cleared the threshold, Kurama darted off after them, before coming back to Hiei and whining.

Hiei reached out and patted Kurama’s cheek, “Calm down, I’m coming too. Go on now.” 

Kurama yipped and then exited the room. Hiei followed, snorting with amusement as he followed after his friends, “I can’t wait for Kurama to go back to normal. He’s never going to live this down.” He then laughed loudly and shut the food firmly.

The villain, whose body was still slumped in the corner, dead for his efforts, was quietly and easily forgotten.

Personality:

There’s a lot of assumptions to be made about Tad but generally they sum up to him being some kind of brainless jock who peaked in high school and slid into the good life by hanging on his father’s coattails. Sure Tad likes to take care of his body–but the brain is the most important muscle, right? Have more than one conversation with him and you’ll begin to realize he’s a pretty thoughtful guy. He believes in the power of intention and manifesting what you want in life; he understands that emotional pain is just as real as physical pain and he’s a pretty good shoulder to cry on after a messy break up.

Biography:

Tad and his siblings were second generation immigrants from the Philippines. Thanks to their parents and grandparents Tad, Becky, and Doug were damn well guaranteed an easy life. Grandpa had worked in corporate finance with a number of big name companies and dad had continued the work during his own lifetime. Their family name had become respectable within the circles they worked and there was clear intention for Tad and Doug to carry the family business on. Doug was several years older and had already been working in dad’s shadow by the time Tad was graduating college.

He still isn’t sure if it was greed or the need to prove himself to the family, but Tad made a very stupid choice that cost his family almost everything they’d worked for. A rival company had made Tad an offer–a damn good offer–and he made the mistake of thinking that just because he had a finance degree he knew anything about the world of money management. The reality was cutthroat, dangerous. When that much money was on the line.. People.. Companies.. Were willing to do just about anything to protect their investments.

Doug and dad were left dealing with the mess Tad had made and he was all but excommunicated from the family. He spent a few years doing nothing jobs and going nowhere before Sada Vang finally wore him down and he accepted the offer to work for her. He figured he’d already lost the things that were most important to him, going to jail for white collar crime didn’t really scare him anymore.

The last thing he expected was for things to actually work out. He began making more money than he knew what to do with and his loyalty to Sada only deepened. She became the only family he had, some fucked up aunt who offered him blow as a reward for successful investments. Ria had been the jewel in his crown. He’d been in love with her from the moment they met and he was willing to spend all the money in the world to make her his.

Tad got stuck in the chaos of the winter supply runs and ended up on the far side of the city with a broken ankle. He was lucky enough to find a kind stranger who helped him survive the winter by taking him back to her farm. When the snow cleared he made his way back to the Wexley just in time for Sada to make her power play. And when that power began to drive her just a little mad.. he stepped aside to let others do the dirty work. What a gutless bastard.

Thanks to Ria he's done his best to move on from the situation. Sada's empire wasn't sustainable but maybe the Wexley township could be. He has to believe it, has to hope that Sada's death was worth something.

Chapter II: Sleepwalking

The morning came faster than Valeria had expected. She did not eat again for breakfast and was immediately escorted to another office with yet another name.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter, PhD.

She wasn't sure what to make of him when he opened the door. He seemed almost regal, his suit was finely pressed and his demeanor was confident and formal.

He had the guards remove her cuffs and guided her to a soft chair.

She took time to take in his office, she wasn't as nervous as she had been with Dr. Crane.

Large bookshelves with piles of academic texts filled the room. Red curtains that reminded Valeria of her blood.

His desk was an ebony color and she admired the Renaissance artwork on his wall.

"Ms. Gray, my name is Dr. Hannibal Lecter. I am going to be your main therapist for your time here." Velaria was still scanning the statues in his office.

"Please, just Valeria," she said softly. He smiled as she met his gaze.

"Then I insist you call me Hannibal. Very lovely name. It's Latin, correct? Meaning 'to be brave' "

Valeria couldn't help her dry laugh. "Yes, that is the translation. My father teaches Latin along with Greek history at Gotham University."

He tilted his head. "You do not believe it fits you." There was something intimidating and yet welcoming about this man.

"I took a cowardly root and tried to kill myself, I have never been very brave in my life."

"Bravery is subjective," his voice was like silk. "You suffer from depression. One might think you brave everyday for fighting it. Everyone cannot be brave all the time, we must have our moments of cowardice. That makes us human."

His aura was a woodsy brown with specks of dark blue, but there was a color deep in the layers that seemed hidden. Tightly locked away.

"Well, I'm tired of being brave then," Valeria's voice shook slightly.

"Why don't you walk me through what you did the day you you attempted to kill yourself. Would you feel comfortable recalling what happened?" Valeria hesitated then nodded.

"If it's premeditated does that mean you can keep me longer?"

He chuckled softly. "No, Valeria it wouldn't affect it."

"Well the night before I drank lots of water. Then the next day I hit a darker and darker place as the day went along. My father was out working. Around 4 I poured a glass of whiskey, put on some music and then did it."

She thought he would judge her lack of emotions towards the memory.

"Are you in school?"

"Not since Lucian, my brother, passed away. I dropped out to be with my father."

"How was your father towards you during that time?"

"Aloof," she said softly.

"What were you studying?"

"Occult sciences and parapsychology," she said, shoulders tensing.

"You're intrigued by the belief in life after death and mystical influences." His tone wasn't judgement, curious if anything.

Valeria relaxed a hair. "Yes. My mother was a medium when she was alive. She used many forms of divination to communicate with the other side. She also did reiki."

"Did you inherit any of these gifts?"

She paused, biting her lip. Hannibal fixed her with a calm stare. "I wouldn't call it inherit. Anyone can have these abilities if they open themselves. But I am able to see auras and use tarot cards." That was all she would tell him for now. She needed to see how he'd react to that. It had been so long since she'd told someone. The only other person who knew was Emily.

"You see the colors of someone's energetic field?" She gave a curt nod.

"Is that why you didn't wish to continue seeing Dr. Crane?" Her cheeks heated up immediately and she fumbled. She hadn't thought that perhaps they were friends.

"Yes." She shifted uncomfortably.

"What do you see when you look at mine?" She gazed at him again and watched as the colors swirled and changed.

"With all due respect, Dr. Lecter, I have already shared more than I'm comfortable with on that subject." He smiled.

"Of course, my apologies. Curiosity got the better of me. Is this your first time in therapy?"

"No, I went to it when I was younger and was diagnosed with depression." He wrote something down.

"Were you and your brother close?" His tone softened.

Valeria bit her lip and nodded. "He was my best friend. After mom died we were all each other had."

"Do you have any friends?"

Valeria pondered the question for a moment. "I have a friend, Emily. The other people I know are acquaintances because she is very social."

"It can be beneficial to have an extroverted friend when you yourself are introverted. Someone to push you. It can also be draining, because they do not understand your desire for solitude in order to recharge."

"Who said I was an introvert?" She felt stupid as soon as she'd asked the question, but Dr. Lecter just smiled.

"Most extroverts would not refer to people in their social circle as acquaintances."

"Are you an introvert, Dr. Lecter?"

"I am able to adapt to how the situation needs me to be. I need to be extroverted and welcoming for my patients, but I also enjoy my alone time."

Valeria nodded and ran her hands over her bandages.

"I believe I will bring this session to a close early, allow you time to get acclimated to here and recover. You did very well." He stood and she followed, cheeks heating at his praise.

When the guards came in he instructed them not to cuff her and she cast him a look of gratitude to which he smiled at.

Valeria was brought to large room with a tv, bookshelves and games. There were around ten tables and a bunch of inmates.

She walked to a bookshelf and grabbed a random book before hurrying to a table and taking a seat.

She buried her nose in the book and tried to ignore the world.

"You must be new here."

Tried.

Valeria looked up to see a young man, around her age. He had black hair and a mole on his left cheek. When he smiled at her it showed his dimples.

"My names Sebastian, call me Seb." He took a seat in front of her. "What's your name?"

"Velaria."

"Stop tormenting the newbie." Velaria held back the urge to groan at the new voice. A girl also around their age stood there, arms crossed.

She smiled, taking a seat. "My names Jane."

Jane had silky brown hair and tan skin with eyes that reminded Velaria of the leaves in autumn.

"Velaria." She closed her book, getting the feeling she wasn't going to be left to privacy.

"That's a chill name," Seb smiled. Jane nodded in agreement. "So why are you here?"

"Attempted suicide." Velaria studied the way they didn't react negatively or uncomfortably to her words.

"Same," Seb smiled. "Jane too." Velaria tilted her head curiously.

"How long have you two been here?"

"A month," Seb said.

"6 weeks," Jane sighed. "Crane likes suicides, we're easy to keep and if we die he can blame it on our mental illness."

"Dr. Crane? Likes suicides to do what exactly?" Perhaps seeing his aura had been a good thing.

Jane shrugged. "A lot of his patients end up going out of their mind or dead."

"The majority, really," Seb added.

Velaria stared at them, seeing the soft and comforting colors of their auras she relaxed a bit. "Who do you two have as your therapists?"

"Dr. Lecter," Seb said.

"Dr. Garcia. There are only four doctors at the moment. Kind of short staffed."

"What about you?" Sebastian asked.

"Dr. Crane and Dr. Lecter. Apparently I gave Crane too much attitude and so he wants to see me as well."

Jane burst into laughter, nearly falling out of her chair. Velaria wasn't sure to laugh or feel embarrassed until Jane said, "Finally! Someone to take on Crane."

Velaria couldn't help the small blush and slight smile that tugged at her face.

"Maybe we can make sure we stay sane," Seb said. "Keep each other in check. Be like the breakfast club or some kinda bullshit like that."

Velaria looked at Jane who was smiling and looking at her with anticipation.

"We can try," Velaria agreed, holding out her hand to shake both of theirs. "After all, we're gonna need some support in this shit place."

The day came and went and soon Valeria found herself yet again sitting across from Dr. Crane.

He seemed less distracted this time, more interested in their conversation.

"I've heard you've been making connections,," he said, starting the conversation off. Valeria clenched her jaw, not keen on the idea of constantly being surveyed.

"Yes, we've started a little suicide support group." Her tone was cold. It had been a long day of talking and everything was beginning to irritate her. Especially this entitled ass.

"Then let's continue this conversation as adults?" He asked, tone higher, as if talking to a child. She nodded.

"Wonderful! I also heard you haven't eaten today. Why?"

"I have trouble eating when I'm nervous. I just haven't gotten over that yet " it was a half truth.

"Why are you afraid?"

"Nervous," she corrected. He smiled, as if to say he knew something she didn't.

"Of course. Why are you nervous?"

"We're in an asylum," she wasn't trying to be sarcastic, it was an honest answer. "There are individuals here who have harmed others in terrible ways. There are many people around and it is a new environment I am attempting to acclamate to."

Valeria sighed. "Dr. Crane, with all due respect, I do not see how seeing Dr. Lecter and you is doing any good other than to overwhelm me."

Valeria felt like crying.

Interviewer: This is the cover story, so let’s dive in. Can you tell us about Kizu as a band? Tell me about the division of roles within the band.

Lime: Division of roles?!

Interviewer: You know, like a mood-maker or someone who organizes everyone’s opinions.

Lime: Honestly, we’re pretty lucky with the environment we have. The adults around us handle most of the non-musical stuff for us. All we have to do is create cool songs and perform cool live shows. But back when we didn’t have a manager, it was chaos—there was this one time when the back of the equipment van was left open, and our gear kept falling out along the way. If it were just the four of us, we wouldn’t even be able to handle transportation. And we couldn’t reach this many people or function as a business.

Yue: If it were just the four of us running the band, I’d probably end up being in charge of the blog. I mean, I’m the only one who updates it anyway!

Kyonosuke: Hmm, that’s difficult for me. I’m bad at expressing myself, so I’d probably just end up playing my instrument.

Reiki: It’d be great if Kyonos became our makeup artist.

Lime: I don’t think I want Kyonos touching my face.

Kyonosuke: That kinda hurts…

Interviewer: S-sorry about that…

Lime: Normally, you’d need a leader or at least someone handling communication, but we’re outcasts from society, so there's no way we could work within society's system.

Reiki: We never decided on any roles from the start. There’s no official leader or anything.

Interviewer: From the outside, it seems like Lime is the one deciding the direction of the band.

Lime: Even if I write the songs and lyrics, I don’t explain anything to the others. Honestly, there are times when they only find out what the songs are really about in interviews like this. We don’t really have discussions about our music. We don’t sit down and say, 'Let’s do this' or 'Let’s change that.' But somehow, it all just falls into place naturally. So if you ask me who's steering the ship, I honestly don’t know.

Interviewer: That’s amazing. It’s like telepathy.

Lime: You think? But honestly, I think we’re just the closest band out there, regardless of genre. Even during the pandemic, the four of us would just be on voice chat playing online games together all the time. To me, this band feels more like a school festival than a professional career.

Reiki: Before the pandemic, we used to just hang out at Lime’s house and have hot pot together.

Yue: But it’s not like we’re always eating together on tour or anything like that. It’s not the of obvious kind of closeness. It’s more like, there's something only the four of us understand.

Reiki: That's true. Everyone does what they want, when they want, and when the timing is right, we come together and create this incredible groove.

Interviewer: In other words, you all are on the same wavelength?

Lime: We’re not even trying to match it. The thing is, we’re not aiming to perform as one band. Each of us is doing our own live performance. In the past, people would say we seemed disjointed, like we lacked cohesion. But if you really want something cohesive, wouldn’t it be best to perform alone? For me, what makes a band cool is that lack of total unity. We’re all living our own lives separately too. But when we do align, the energy is explosive!

Interviewer: I see. So then, over the four and a half years since you formed, what’s the biggest thing that’s changed about Kizu?

Reiki: I think it’s that the band is no longer just ours. We’ve come to feel a real sense of responsibility in our day-to-day activities, and looking back, we were actually expected to deliver from the very beginning. Now, I feel like we’ve finally caught up to the name of the band.

Kyonosuke: I don't think anyone has changed fundamentally, but the way I think and my mental state have matured a lot. I can look at myself more objectively now and see that I’ve grown. I’m less desperate than I was in the early days. Whether it’s as a drummer or just as a person, I feel way more relaxed and settled.

Interviewer: Kyonosuke, since Kizu is your first band, there was a difference in experience between you and the other members. I imagine there was a lot of pressure when you first joined.

Kyonosuke: Yes. I had no confidence in myself and I was really negative.

Yue: But you had a raw quality in your drumming, and your drive to improve was obvious. You really wanted to get better, and I could see that from the start, so I always thought, this guy is going to grow a lot. And in reality, I could see those small improvements—like when you finally nailed a clean bass drum section. I made sure to always tell you.

Lime: If I’ve stopped getting mad at you, doesn’t that mean you’ve grown? Before, there were so many things that bothered me (laughs).

Kyonosuke: Well, it's true that I don’t get scolded anymore. But I do get hit.

Lime: Hey, what?!

Yue: Personally, I feel like I've come to understand what cool is intuitively. In the beginning, I’d question whether what I was doing was actually cool or not. But lately, even when I’m not really thinking about it during shows, people still tell me it's cool.

Reiki: I guess we were trying to look cool. In the old days.

Interviewer: So now you're just able to naturally bring out what you think is cool?

Yue: It’s not that we’re trying to bring out something cool… Okay, I’m about to say something really deep. Whatever we do—it’s already cool.

Lime: Are you drunk?! (laughs) But now that you mention it, yeah, I was creating a fake self. Trying to show off, acting tough, edgy and cocky. But now I feel that way from the bottom of my heart! Back then, for events with other bands or depending on the audience, I used to think, ‘Let’s present ourselves this way.’ But now—I honestly don’t care. When we’re invited to play, we just give everything we’ve got and leave. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s what makes a band cool to me.

Interviewer: That's a big change in mentality.

Lime: Well, everyone has changed. I mean, if you watch the Oshimai MV (1st single), we all look like kids. Kids!

Reiki: We were trying way too hard.

Lime: Yes. Even casual gestures seem fake. Just standing there should’ve been enough, but we were forcing ourselves to look cool—maybe because we lacked confidence. But why did we change? It's hard to answer if you ask me.

Interviewer: Would you say it’s just experience?

Lime: Actually, I don’t think it’s just that. Before starting to tour the country, we were doing solo shows in halls and venues like Zepp, so small venues don't really suit us! Even during the Nanajo tour in August and September, we were like, What should we do? I used to calculate a lot of things, and it's not like I don't calculate at all these days, but my approach to live performances and music has definitely changed.

Interviewer: Maybe your approach has become purer.

Lime: Ah, that might be true.

Interviewer: Earlier, Kyonosuke said that fundamentally, you guys haven’t changed. So, what exactly is that core?

Kyonosuke: It’s the love and belief in this genre and the desire to spread it. When I looked at the bands of my acquaintances and seniors, I saw them straying from the genre because they don't have confidence in it, or their tastes have changed, so I used to worry, 'If I start a band, will I also end up like that?' But now that I’m actually doing it, I realize… I haven’t changed at all. And I think other members haven’t either.

Reiki: Yeah, we really haven’t changed. When I started a band, I didn't think the genre was cool. So I wanted to make it cool myself, and I wanted to change everything. I hated the idea that visual kei has to be the way it is.

Yue: For me, it wasn’t really about spreading the genre, I just wanted to play in a band with people I liked. But if these guys are determined to make visual kei cool again—then I am ready to dedicate my entire life to it.

Kyonosuke: In the end, the core hasn’t changed—we just love music.

Lime: ………… Are you all dying tomorrow or something? Are you okay with the interview being like this? (laughs) But yeah, we all grew up admiring this genre. And now, we feel like we have to give something back. A lot of people didn’t do that, they just took—and then left. That’s why I think visual kei started to fade. So we want to go out into the world and show people that today's visual kei is pretty amazing!

Interviewer: Your one-man VISUAL at Shibuya Public Hall on January 8th is bound to be the perfect place to showcase that. By the time this magazine is out (interview was in December), the show will have already happened, but what kind of show do you think it will be?

Lime: Well, if I say too much now, it will be a spoiler for the three of you. To me, these three guys sitting here are fans too. If I can’t move them, there’s no way the audience will be moved. If it doesn’t get through to them, it won’t get through to anyone. The core idea hasn’t changed—we want to put on shows that move people emotionally, not just physically. We want to be the kind of band that touches hearts. And I think all four of us are always striving to leave a lasting impression.

Interviewer: Well, let’s talk about what’s coming next. At Shibuya Public Hall, you're also announcing future plans—like the men-only live on March 5th, the fan club-exclusive show on March 22nd, and the Zennippon Shironuri Kyoukai: Sakazuki event on April 18th, which will bring together artists who perform in white makeup.

Lime: We’re lucky that Kizu has a lot of male fans. When we did that men-only live with Arlequin and BugLug, the energy was insane! I thought, 'Are these guys always holding back this kind of passion when they come to our shows?' That realization hit me hard. So I wanted to create a space where they could fully let loose.

Yue: Yeah, that time I took off my shirt.

Lime: Right! I knew we put on an amazing live, but afterward, someone from the team said "It was great because Yue took off his shirt." And I was like, 'Wait… we worked really hard on that show, and THAT’S your takeaway?!' (laughs)

Interviewer: Probably because he seems like the one least likely to take his shirt off.

Lime: Yeah, we all knew Yue is muscular and has a great body, but he never really showed it off before. So I think people were just surprised.

Yue: Yeah, most people had no idea.

Lime: As for the FC-only show, I think it’ll feel a little warmer this time. When we did our first one in October, the performance ended up being a bit stiff. It wasn’t until afterward that I was like, Oh yeah, this was a fan club show... (laughs) So for the next one, I want it to be a bit warmer. When we’re in a happy mode, we’re literally grinning the whole time. (laughs) And the Shironuri event—I’ve been wanting to do that for ages! I reached out to the people I admired and thought were cool, and surprisingly, everyone just said yes without hesitation. I’m really grateful for that. I actually played a show with New Rote'ka back in high school in my hometown, Miyazaki. I was this brat skipping school to play live shows, and Acchan (Atsushi, vocalist) said something really memorable in the dressing room…

Interviewer: What did he say to you?

Lime: I can’t tell you that. (laughs) He probably doesn’t even remember, but his words really struck me back then. So, I’m just really happy we were able to put together this event now.

Reiki: Having artists like Inugami Circus-dan, people who have been part of this culture for so long—agree to perform, is really humbling.

Lime: Compared to the lineup, we’re total beginners when it comes to shironuri!

Interviewer: So, what was the original reason Kizu started doing shironuri in the first place?

Lime: When I first imagined starting a new band with Reiki, the first thing that came to my mind was light and subtle makeup and a pop-feel. But that wouldn't be any fun, and I wanted to betray everyone! On the contrary, the thing I couldn't imagine at all was wearing white makeup.

Interviewer: So, you wanted to betray yourself too.

Reiki: Ah, that’s good. That's it.

Yue: Well, I don’t do shironuri, though. (laughs)

Lime: That's right! Actually, back around Kawazu, we made this ridiculous statement like, “We’re graduating from shironuri!”—which made no sense. So we stopped for a bit. Yue has been the only one who’s stuck to that decision to this day. When we ditched shironuri, we felt so exposed, as if we were naked. So, we realized there was no escaping it and we went right back to it.

Kyonosuke: At the time I wanted to be popular, so I wanted to quit too. (laughs) But I was told, “You’re the one who absolutely can’t stop.” So yeah, I was the only one who kept shironuri the whole time!

Interviewer: I always had the impression you were totally into shironuri from the beginning, I didn’t realize you had those kinds of feelings too.

Kyonosuke: Oh, now I’m totally into it. Back then, I wasn’t fully comfortable expressing myself through it, so I felt a little conflicted. But now, I feel like I can become anything, so I actually love it. The idea of stopping doesn’t even cross my mind anymore. I’m way beyond that, it's part of who I am.

Lime: Since it’s a special shironuri event, I really want to see how everyone removes their makeup. Honestly, that’s the hardest part! Since it’s oil-based, washing your face normally just makes it smear everywhere. But it’s bad for your skin, so you want to get it off fast. When I first met Kyonos, his skin was so clear, but now it’s all messed up from wearing shironuri so much!

Kyonosuke: No, seriously, shironuri destroys your skin! The only good thing about the pandemic was that my skin got a chance to clear up. Since we’ll be performing with people who’ve been doing this for years, I’d love to get some tips from them.

Interviewer: And on May 14th, you’ll be holding a solo show at Nihon Seinenkan Hall.

Lime: We don’t know exactly what we’re going to do yet, but the mindset is always the same for every show.

Reiki: Curry and hayashi rice are basically the same thing. So the type of the event doesn’t matter!

Lime: You know what I’m really happy about? Just being able to say, “We’re doing a solo show.” Lately, even when a show was planned, we couldn’t announce it, and we had to keep postponing it. That was the saddest part. Even Shibuko (Shibuya Public Hall) was like that. Originally, we were supposed to perform there in January last year as part of the Jigoku single release. We even made towels with a ticket design that said “Valid until January 10” as a hint. But in the end, we couldn’t even announce the show, and a whole year passed…

Interviewer: So from the fans’ perspective, it was like, “Wait… what was that January 10th thing all about?”

Lime: Exactly! That’s why just being able to announce shows again makes me so happy. And now, we can actually see what's ahead. The moment we finished recording Strawberry Blue, which we released in December, I felt like, 'Yeah, we can do it.' So Shibuko is just a checkpoint. We want to be a band that can show something even more amazing after that. Also, Reiki-kun, what about you? Reiki-kun you’ve been quiet today—

Reiki: I just woke up! …But seriously, the reason visual kei isn't cool anymore is because the older generation—our seniors—were satisfied just benefiting from it and then they left. They had their fun and quit. That’s why, with what we’re doing now, I hope our juniors fulfill their own soul through this. And I hope the fans do too. That feeling of “I want to be like that bangyaru”—it doesn’t really exist anymore.

Lime: Yes. And we’ll keep evolving.

Reiki: And I want everyone else to evolve, too. People who love themselves are cool, so I want our fans to love themselves even more for loving visual kei. We want to create music and performances that make them feel that way.
