I can find where the interesting aspects of something toxic can come from, similarly to liking antagonists, however, it's the fact this ship gets so romanticized or sexualized constantly as well. To state they could've been friends also denies how Akechi rather would have been dead the entire time in the third semester than be friends or start a new life with Ren, but only did so to be dead as he didn't agree with the second chance he was given. Also, how is it untrue to the fact Akechi hates Ren? Because to me, the whole drive of Akechi was fueled through hatred, after all he wanted to seek out revenge against his father, and he clearly states how much hate he has for Ren. Later thinking he killed him and without any hesitation, smiling, even laughing while doing so. Ren was his biggest obstacle and wanted to get rid of him and was so happy once doing so. Ren may have dreamt and wished for Akechi to be alive, but at the end of the day, his status as a criminal being removed was what Maruki believed would bring about happiness for Ren. Not Akechi. Lastly, the reason I find this ship to be problematic especially in a queer sense, is the fact that so many queer ships have to be tragic. Because if it's tragic people will find enjoyment through them, but that's often what gets popularized or represented in media. It's a problem when these are the main representation we get when it comes to queer ships canon or not, because it only stigmatizes queer ships. It's an issue in persona 2 with Anna, but somehow not a problem with Shuake and I don't quite understand? I'm not hating anything you've said, just was interested and wanted to reply. Again, ship whatever, but I hope it at least makes sense why I find this ship to be an issue to say the least. Personally, as much as Souyo is popular, shuake is definitely more known and popular. I would much prefer Souyo over shuake and think it is better representation of a queer ship and it's unfortunate seeing how it is valued less due to it being healthy since then it isn't seen as entertaining enough, when why does it need to be so deep or need to be used as entertainment? I'm not one to really hate people's ships even if they're popular, but something with shuake really frustrates me. Because not only does akechi try to kill Ren, but he killed two of his friends' parents and is a serial killer to so many innocent people ones we may not know but many we do know, even through attempts such as the train scene even if they were all injured (there likely was children that were on that train too, and I doubt Akechi had much sympathy for his actions). To say they're so hinted at being in love, all for it to be a tragedy and unforgivable too is so shocking to me. I'd argue that ryuji and ren have way more queerbait with each other, too, and are actually healthy and wouldn't end up as a tragedy. I'm not one to stop people from shipping, just crazy to see sometimes 😭 idk just like-- he smiled when he thought he killed ren
