u and killua have been friends for a while. literally probably the most chaotic pair anyone’s ever seen. just constantly doing stupid reckless borderline deadly shit. u are one of the very few who can always keep up with killua and can tolerate the same shit he does

he’s the friend who is always risking his life with the things he does and ur the friend who is always risking their life with the things you say. you have zero filter basically. and he really does not care at all, tbh he thinks you’re hilarious

anyway that’s why killua really has no problem bringing u over to his house. he’s never done it before, but you two aren’t the type to make a big deal of things like that, so whatever he just decides to drop by with u

you’ve never met his parents or siblings, but killua has never been lacking on his descriptions of them. whenever you ask he always makes it a point to tell you how nuts they are. but he sort of knows you can handle it even tho his family doesn’t like that he has friends in the first place, but tbh he doesn’t care much atp

anyway he brings you to his place and you go through the whole shebang of the super heavy doors and getting past mike but basically you two are good to go. the butlers welcome you both in and that’s that

you actually do meet his family who are about as off putting as you expected. his little brother kalluto is the tamest; he acknowledges you with a barely perceptible nod and that’s that. killua doesn’t bother introducing u to milluki and thankfully illumi and kikyo aren’t in the house right now. however, you both do run into silva and zeno.

the piercing glares they give you should be enough to freeze you in your tracks. there’s obviously an aura of dread that comes with their presence that killua had vaguely warned you about. but something honestly catches your eye about them, and you have to bring your hand to your mouth to hide the mischievous smile spreading across your lips. but to your surprise, the two men don’t even come over and bother to speak to you. they just give you disdainful looks and go on their way. looks like you aren’t really worth their time.

but as the two are walking away and you and killua start to head out, you turn and whisper to killua in a voice you very soon discover wasn’t actually a whisper, “wait, kil, your dad and grandpa are kinda hot.”

needless to say, this is the one time killua doesn’t find your lack of filter funny. his blue eyes instantly fly open and he yanks you aside, hissing, “why the fuck-“

that’s all he manages to get out. the zoldyck men have stopped in their tracks. your eyes widen as well and you clap a hand over your mouth.

“oh my fucking god-“ killua doesn’t even turn around to see his father and grandfather, he just yanks you along with him as he basically teleports out of the house. you don’t even have time to process his reaction before you both are suddenly far away from the zoldyck mansion.

you both pause once you’re out of earshot, exchanging wide-eyed looks before you collapse into giggles in the grass and killua slaps both hands against his face. “are you actually out of your fucking mind- never mind, you actually fucking are. what the hell is wrong with you??”

you’re way too busy laughing to answer, pointing at killua’s totally red face. he hides it behind his hands with a loud, exasperated groan.

“i’m going to puke. i’m going to throw the fuck up all over you, you asshole. take that shit back literally right now. oh my god. i’m going to kill you and then myself, you absolute dumbass.”

this goes on for at least ten minutes. you’re basically wheezing at this point, and you don’t stop until killua threatens to leave you behind.

“i am never taking you to my house again, you psychopath. like, i know you have shitty ass taste in guys, but are you serious?? you’re mental. actually insane. seriously?? no, take that shit back, my dad and grandpa are not hot.”

you start to walk away, still laughing, and killua is hot on your heels.

“where the hell are you going?! take that back right now, or i swear to god-“

You know how I said I would post the fic eventually? Well, almost a year later, I finally finished it.

Omg... this is so sad... (I mean, give me a min, I'll write it but) In real life, don't you dare doing this, life gets really shitty. There was this one guy in my class (In high school) and I had a crush on him, but like for real, we had been friends for years and well yeah, I wanted to have something with him.

But he was one of the "popular guys" and I wasn't (yeah, my life is a Wattpad story with bad ending), were there signals? Yeah, from both sides. And almost everyone noticed (except for the two girls who had an even bigger crush on him and he rejected. We always had these certain interactions that showed affection and all (even when I was already in a "relationship" with someone else)

Anyway the graduation arrived and we got to speak a bit about our feelings, but it was like regretting, we haven't speak ever since :')

Now, let's begin

The Grand Priest had always prided himself on his composure. As the attendant to the Omni-King, his duties demanded unwavering discipline and an even temperament. Yet, none of his millennia of existence had prepared him for the peculiar warmth that bloomed in his chest whenever you were near.

You weren’t extraordinary by cosmic standards—just a mortal plucked from obscurity by Zeno’s fleeting interest. You spent your days wandering the palace, curiosity drawing you to places no one dared venture, your presence an unspoken contradiction to the sacred order.

He had convinced himself at first that it was simply the novelty of your presence. Mortals rarely graced these halls, and perhaps his fascination was only that—an interest in something unfamiliar. But as the days turned into weeks, he began to notice the subtleties of his own behavior.

The way he found excuses to linger when you spoke.

The way he orchestrated his tasks to pass through the areas you frequented.

The way his lips curved, ever so slightly, when your laughter echoed through the palace.

Zeno adored you in his innocent, childlike way, but the Grand Priest's feelings were far from innocent. They were... consuming. He found himself memorizing the smallest details about you: the way you tilted your head when you were curious, the rhythm of your steps as you explored, the sound of your voice when you spoke to him directly—a melody he couldn’t forget.

But he would never speak of it.

The thought of driving you away—of seeing your gaze shift with discomfort or, worse, fear—was unbearable. He had seen the awe and respect you held for him, and he couldn’t risk shattering that fragile connection.

So, he settled for silence, tucking his feelings away where they couldn’t escape. His affection manifested in quiet acts: ensuring your favorite food appeared at meals, adjusting the temperature of the palace when you complained of the chill, and subtly shielding you from Zeno’s more chaotic whims.

One evening, you sat on the palace steps, gazing at the endless expanse of stars. He approached, his steps soundless.

“Daishinkan,” you greeted, turning to smile at him. “Do you ever get tired of this place? It’s beautiful, but... it feels so big, so empty.”

He hesitated, his chest tightening. “It is as it must be,” he replied softly. “But your presence has brought... life to these halls.”

Your eyes widened at his words, and for a moment, he feared he’d said too much. But then you smiled, a quiet, genuine expression that made his resolve falter.

“I’m glad I can make it a little less lonely,” you said, returning your gaze to the stars.

The Grand Priest stood there, watching you, the glow of the cosmos reflected in your eyes. And in that moment, he swore he would never let you feel the emptiness you had unknowingly filled in him. Even if he could never say the words, even if his feelings remained a secret, he would ensure you always felt welcome here—in his world, and in his heart.

Tender meetings and harsh disciplining.

In Alan Wake, the names of the three characters, Alan Wake, Thomas Zane, & Mr. Scratch carry a lot of symbolic weight that fits perfectly with the game’s themes of creation, identity, & the power of writing.

1. ALAN WAKE

So, the name "Alan Wake" is pretty loaded with meaning. The word "Wake" really ties into the whole theme of awakening & self-discovery. It’s like waking up from a dream or from unconsciousness, which is exactly what Alan has to do throughout the game. He’s constantly forced to confront his past actions & the consequences of his writing, "waking up" to the reality around him. Plus, since he’s a writer, the name “Wake” is like reference to waking something into existence, which makes sense because he’s literally bringing his own creations to life in the game.

2. THOMAS ZANE

Then there’s Thomas Zane. The name "Zane" is actually a variation of “Zeno,” which makes me think of the ancient philosopher Zeno of Elea. Zeno is known for his paradoxes, like the one about Achilles & the tortoise, where you’re stuck in this impossible situation. That feels very much like Zane's situation, he tries to rewrite reality by bringing someone back from the dead, not fully understanding the consequences, which ends in disaster.

Also, “Thomas” means "twin," which could be a nod to Zane's dual role in the story. He’s both the creator of the narrative but also a victim of it, which again ties back to those paradoxes & the unintended consequences of his actions.

3. MR. SCRATCH: The Dark Reflection

Then there’s Mr. Scratch. His name is just as symbolic, but in a much more sinister way.

The word "Scratch" has multiple meanings that fit perfectly with his role in the story. First, "scratch" can mean a small, seemingly insignificant mark, but one that can still cause damage over time. That fits Mr. Scratch perfectly because he starts as just a shadowy figure, a whisper of an idea, but he slowly takes over, corrupting Alan's identity & reality itself.

Then there’s the old folklore idea of "Old Scratch," a nickname for the Devil. This makes a lot of sense for Mr. Scratch, since he represents Alan’s dark side, the twisted, corrupted version of him that revels in chaos & destruction. He’s essentially what happens when Alan loses control of his own creation, when the author’s dark thoughts take on a life of their own.

Just like Thomas Zane’s name means "twin," Mr. Scratch is a kind of twin to Alan, his doppelgänger, but one that embodies everything Alan fears about himself. If Alan’s name represents waking up & facing hard truths, Mr. Scratch is the opposite. He’s the part of Alan that doesn’t want to wake up, that wants to indulge in power without consequences.

He’s also connected to the theme of writing. A "scratch" could represent editing or rewriting, but in an unstable way, like scratching out words in frustration, creating something broken or chaotic rather than a coherent narrative. This mirrors how Mr. Scratch warps Alan’s story, turning it into a nightmare.

HOW IT ALL TIES TOGETHER

So, Alan Wake is about a man waking up to the truth & struggling to control his own creation. Thomas Zane represents the paradoxes & dangers of writing reality into existence. But, Mr. Scratch? He’s what happens when that creation turns against its creator. He’s the consequence of losing control, Alan’s personal nightmare given form.

I like that Estinien is our Vegeta. He shows up and fights us over the title of Azure Dragoon (if you leveled Dragoon) and is antagonistic with us. Then we go on an adventure together and grow closer. But he lapses and is possessed by the evil he swore to fight then we go go karting with him and golfing and driving. And from then on, if narrative needs to measure how powerful an enemy is, they are pit against Estinien. Thats what sets him apart from Zenos. You might think Zenos is our Vegeta. No, the narrative doesn't set up a new threat to test against Zenos to show how much stronger we have to become. Estinien is able to flee from Elidibus empowered Zenos corpse. But isn't able to make a dent against Zenos revived with Elidibus fuckery, the Lunar Primals show we have to rise above our previous levels to combat the Final Days which Estinien handles with ease and takes to the sky, he then pits himself against Meteion and succeeds showing we can perserver as well, he is then set against the Archfiend's hordes and Galool Ja Ja to show the strength we're dealing with. He is OUR Vegeta. He is there in every expansion and is used to measure it.

Zenos...is our Frieza. Amoral, sadistically chaotic. A fan favorite and they brought him back with a new even stronger form. Forced to work along side us to save the universe.

You'd think Emet was our Frieza but he only gets one true outing as a villain and is more or less an ally thereafter. Which...actually kind of makes Emet-Selch our Piccolo, if I am sticking with DragonBall Characters. He shows up, we blow a hole in him (giggity) and then he's our tacturn ally.

FFXIV has a way of making the actions of villains justifiable. How might your WOL empathize with a villains cause? What justifications would they allow them?
