I don’t think Ne Zha 2 used Ai because I have seen behind the scenes videos on how the movie was made.
https://youtu.be/v7malQgDT_U?feature=shared
But this person on twitter/X is claiming the film used Ai (this person is a Disney fan so maybe that’s why)
https://x.com/CjstrikerC/status/1891468055114387869
https://x.com/CjstrikerC/status/1891483998448234894
this X user is doing exactly what i predicted and trying to scaremonger about something rather insignificant. the link they provide in their first post to iWeaver, an "AI-powered knowledge management tool", states that AI was used in the following ways in Nezha 2:
Question: What key roles did AI play in the production process of “Nezha 2”? Answer: AI played significant roles in the production of “Nezha 2”. It accurately predicted the box – office trend through AI, foreseeing the record – breaking moment 72 hours in advance. In the production process, it carried out automated complexity grading for 220 million underwater particle effects, generated resource allocation plans based on the profiles of over 3,000 artists, and could also track the rendering progress of 14 global studios in real – time, helping to improve production efficiency and quality. (Source: iWeaver)
now, if that's true, it's probably something the studio will keep on the DL simply because they don't want people to turn it into "they used AI? they made the whole thing with AI??!!! Terrible!!" (which, if you ask me, might be a dumb approach because in a lot of circles it will look worse if their "cover" gets "blown"). but even tho iWeaver says "significant roles", the first "role" of AI was just in predicting box-office gains, not in animation. the second "role" is what i suspected from having watched the movie: that AI was used to help render some scenes (one scene?). this makes perfect sense, and if you ask me is a really legit use of AI tech. dare i say it, perhaps even something the studios should be proud of.
OBVIOUSLY they did not use AI to create this whole movie. 14 animation studios were involved, thousands of animators, SO MUCH more work than "just" throwing some prompts at an algorithm and telling it to "make a movie". there are a ridiculous number of small details that can only be attributed to human work. a couple of my favs: when Li Jing [Nezha's father] lies in front of Shen Gongbao's little brother on Shen's behalf, the soldier behind him gives him a look of mild shock😲; when Nezha's parents have Shen Gongbao over for dinner during the siege, one of the Guardian Beasts is snoozing 😴.
use of AI always opens up the floor to discussion of what is "Art", but that's a debate humans will have for as long as we exist and are still making art. hell, people used to say it was cheating to try and paint something from a photograph, rather than a live model. they're ALWAYS going to be like that. critics are a necessary evil. haters are always gonna hate.
making art is about creating with integrity. artists use the tools available to them, and some artists are better at using tools than others. AI is also a creative tool. that's the world we live in in 2025.
consider this: i'm a teacher at university level, and obviously we've got loads of students trying to use AI to complete their assignments. what we're moving towards is having an "admission of AI use" declaration for them to make, because we acknowledge that this tool can be helpful! for example, SPELLING AND GRAMMAR. i'd LOVE if my students used AI to fix those mistakes. then i could smoothly read their work. AI can also help you get a basic understanding of concepts (thus improving your ability to write about them), but you still have to check the sources it provides you. that's what makes you look dumb at university level: citing imaginary sources and authors that the AI generated for you. AI tools are also pretty crap at actually "understanding the assignment", so it's easy to tell when a student used AI to write the whole essay because it won't be the right format, and thus can't get a good score. but if a student is smart enough to figure out what's required according to the rubric, what parts of the essay are needed, what arguments they need to make to get points, and they use AI to help them write those out, i see no reason to penalise them for using assistance - as long as they admit they used it. lying about one's abilities doesn't serve anyone, least of all the person themselves.
i think it's really easy for some armchair critic to look at a "fact" like "AI was used in the production of this film" and get angry about it. but i'll bet they haven't even been to see the movie, or spent any time looking for "behind the scenes" reports like you did, and that means we can ignore that idiot, because they don't know what we know 😌
thanks for reading!!

AI in Animation: How Automation is Elevating Creative Possibilities

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the animation industry, automating routine tasks and unlocking new creative possibilities. By integrating AI, animators can focus more on storytelling and artistic expression, enhancing the quality and efficiency of their work.
Key Benefits of AI in Animation:
Enhanced Visual Realism: AI algorithms analyze extensive datasets to generate lifelike textures, lighting, and physics simulations, resulting in more realistic animations.
Improved Operational Efficiency: Automating repetitive tasks like lip-syncing and facial expression mapping accelerates production and reduces errors, allowing animators to dedicate more time to creative aspects.
Advanced Story Setting: AI assists in creating detailed storyboards and backgrounds, streamlining the pre-production process and enabling more intricate storytelling.
Cost Reduction: Automated processes decrease the need for extensive staffing, allowing studios to operate more efficiently and economically without compromising quality.
Faster Background & Asset Creation: AI-driven tools can quickly generate backgrounds, textures, and assets, saving animators countless hours and allowing them to focus on more creative aspects of production.
AI Tools Revolutionizing Animation:
AniDoc: Automates the in-betweening and colorization processes, converting sketch sequences into colored animations based on reference character specifications.
Spiritus: Transforms natural language descriptions into personalized 2D characters and animations, streamlining creation while enhancing creative flexibility.
Anim-Director: An autonomous agent that utilizes large multimodal models to generate coherent storylines and detailed scripts, producing animated videos from concise narratives or simple instructions.
Industry Adoption and Perspectives:
Major studios are increasingly embracing AI to enhance productivity and creativity. Jeffrey Katzenberg, cofounder of DreamWorks Animation, highlights that top Hollywood creators find AI tools to be valuable resources that inspire and expand their work.
In New York, animation studios are integrating AI to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. For instance, 1st Studio, an AI-driven animation studio in New York, combines advanced machine learning techniques with creative expertise to produce high-quality animations efficiently.
Ethical Considerations:
As AI becomes more prevalent in animation, ethical considerations arise, including concerns about job displacement and intellectual property rights. Addressing these issues proactively is crucial to ensure AI serves as a tool for empowerment rather than displacement.
Conclusion:
The integration of AI in animation is revolutionizing the industry, automating routine tasks and unlocking new creative possibilities. By embracing AI, animators can enhance storytelling, produce more realistic visual effects, and personalize content to engage audiences more effectively. As AI continues to evolve, navigating associated ethical considerations will be essential to ensure responsible use that augments human creativity.

yknow AI art has ruined an entire genre of painting to me, i saw one of those smooth anime-realism pieces and immidiately thought ''ugh, AI art'' until i noticed it was posted by an established deviantart user 6 years ago. like ive never been a huge fan of that genre but it looks like a pretty difficult style to master and i feel bad for the artists who specialized in anime-realism only to have their entire market jacked by people typing keywords into midjourney.
#like. yall know the exact kind of smooth shaded anime realism i mean right.#its SO prevelant in ai art to the point that i end up always end up assuming that style is ai more often than not

support HUMAN artists, not AI‼️
AI generated images are NOT art. art is CREATED, not GENERATED.
this is not just about taking jobs from artists (which is already a huge deal), it’s also about devaluing art itself, turning it into mass-produced, empty and soulless content. it’s heartbreaking to see AI stealing from real artists: from Studio Ghibli to smaller creators like us.
personally, we started our art journey by reinterpreting what we love: music, TV series, anime and transforming it into our vision inspired by the 90’s anime that we grew up with. when we create our illustrations, we try to capture the emotion and love we feel for the subject, aiming to tell a story with each drawing. ever since AI was created, we have had many people asking if our art is AI generated. honestly, it’s heartbreaking every single time. for us, art is a deeply human experience that we’ve been dedicating ourselves to for seven years. creating from nothing takes dedication, skill, and an emotional investment that, in our opinion, AI simply can’t capture.
you’ve probably seen your feed flooded with AI generated images in a “Studio Ghibli style”. trends like these reinforce the idea that art can be easily replicated and devalued. the future of artists is more uncertain than ever. we don’t know if in a few years we’ll still be able to make a living from this, since many companies are adopting the mindset of “why should i pay someone for their well-earned work when a machine can do it for free in an instant?” that mindset is the real problem: the way society is starting to perceive art.
art is essential to human life. many people realized this during the pandemic: what would we do without music, movies, books, that bring us comfort? art is more than just the final product. it’s about the process, struggles, and personal growth that comes with it. when you create, you grow, learn, and challenge yourself. AI erases that, replacing it with instant and shallow replication. real art brings people together, evoking emotions and reminding us of what it means to be human.
relying on AI to make art isn’t innovation, it’s avoiding the challenge of creating something meaningful. AI tools like these are being pushed as "the future," but what does that say about us? replacing human artistry with shallow, mass-produced content takes away humanity from art, do we really want to be part of a world where art is just another disposable product? what value do we place on creativity?
if you’ve made it this far, it means you care about these issues. let’s raise our voices together and speak up. don’t consume AI generated images. value and respect creativity. SUPPORT REAL HUMAN ARTISTS.

The Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository is live!
You can find it at: https://www.animal-photo-references.com!

Here's how this repository works: all photos were taken by me, a human, at zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and other facilities with animals in human care. There is no AI involved in the photo editing or creation and there never will be. Right now there's 56 species on the site; my catalog has over 300 and I will be uploading the rest of them as fast as I can.
Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use these references. Yes, even for work you're going to sell.
All other usage/reproduction requires permission, but assume I'm friendly and please do ask! That's educators, researchers, the media, people who need images for a school presentation, etc. This is just to retain copyright/control in case they're scraped/reused unethically - it doesn't meant I don't want folk to have access! So please do reach out via the contact form on the repository website, I don't bite and I'm most likely going to say yes.
Please don't repost the repository photos to your own blogs: I've created @animalphotorefs as a dedicated blog to share photos from the site, and of course I'll reblog a lot of it here! That again just helps with retaining copyright and sourcing of the images. If you really want to repost some for a specific purpose, please just ask me first!
Also, folks, this project has no funding. It's just me and my camera.
There will never be a paywall on the site - I believe resources like this absolutely must be free for everyone to access. So please, please, please support the repository if you use it. Want sneak peeks at photos, cute videos I take, or to help choose what I photograph and what gets posted first? You can do that through Patreon (and there's a free trial on the most interactive tier!) If you'd like to just drop a tip, I've also set up a Ko-Fi.
I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of the repository.
To whet your thirst for cute photos, here's an Indian rhinoceros contemplating a goose.
