i've started assassin's apprentice! and then i realized that there are 16 books in this universe! do you have a recommended reading order?

yeah it's a massive set of books!!! i've personally only hit 3 of the series: the farseer trilogy (assassin's apprentice, royal apprentice, assassin's quest), the tawny man trilogy (fool's errand, golden fool, fool's fate) and the fitz & the fool trilogy (fool's assassin, fool's quest, assassin's fate). those three chronologically follow fitz & his situationship over many many years, which was the main appeal for me

i haven't read the rain wilds chronicles or the liveship traders trilogy, but i've heard that liveship traders is very good! and have heard it rec'd for reading between the last book of the farseer trilogy and the first book of the tawny man trilogy (it features a beloved character from the broader series and fills in their timeline between the other two series)

I understand that it is the last season and the conditions they are in are understandable for it to be the last, however, the fact that the show left many unknowns (like, what really happened to the pilgrims?) Oh the fact that possibly MK is going to live a really long time and that means he'll see maybe his friends die and other things... Unless the series says he's going to live the lifespan of an average person?

We haven't seen anything about Erlang either. Although I had my doubts how the show would write his character, I wonder if he will actually appear.

Season 4 is just the last season that Flying Bark animated. There's no news about Season 5 being the last season of the show. It's simply being animated by another studio.

Let's see, how did i put it before...

TL;DR: Papyrus looks Papyrus-shaped to monsters' eyes, but has human shaped vibes.

Papyrus is actually seen/sensed by monsters entirely the way he is, it’s just that it doesn’t click to them as “Papyrus”. They can see the bones,lack of skin, tallness, etc. but monsters just can’t make the connection to the being in front of them and Papyrus. Anything that tries to force that connection will summarily cause reality to try and correct the issue (unless the monster is soon to be dead), and if forced, “crash” the game. In video game terms, he doesn’t trigger “Papyrus” flags, but may trigger a “Human” flag. Additionally, details such as the aforementioned bones, lack of skin, tallness, etc. tend to be fuzzy, in the same way you know what happens in a fic you want to write, but you’re left staring at an empty word document for hours. Details that could conceivably be seen on frisk, in contrast, are more clear.

Technology works almost the completely opposite way. An image of frisk appears on screen, and does what Papyrus is doing. If anything happens on-camera that would cause reality to crash if it was observed by a monster, then the image or audio glitches instead. It also glitches if Papyrus is in the same room as the screen.

Mettaton is a special case. The box-form is the only form that sees Papyrus with Frisk’s image, but if something happened then he would be the one glitching instead of reality, no matter what form he was in. Additionally, he doesn’t glitch if he’s in the room with Papyrus and another monster. Also, other forms may see Papyrus in his true shape without MTT noticing any difference.

How LMK handles Wukong is perhaps one of the things that doesn't feel fluid. Wukong's journey is supposed to be that one must become the best version of themselves. Book!Wukong is angry at first, arrogant, has flaws and the trip made him improve. But the show makes it seem like no, it's all misunderstandings, it's Azure Lion who planned everything. But then he shows him as someone who is lazy, who keeps too many secrets, or that everything is his fault with his current personal relationships.

How they handle the character is contradictory for those who read the book.

Yeah, Wukong's character in LMK is kinda a mess. It's almost as if the JTTW moreso mellowed Wukong out as opposed to actually developing him as a person. The way I see it, the writers kinda want Wukong to go on this 2nd metaphorical JTTW with MK and co. where they get to explore flaws and have him grow within the context of the show. But a big problem with their approach is that we never see things from Wukong's perspective, and the Monkey never has the proper room to grow and learn from his mistakes and flaws because the show is so short.

So, any resolutions we do get seem shallow, and unfortunately, Wukong comes off as a worse person than the writers intended. Remember the whole "deadbeat dad Wukong" debacle that was so bad that even the writer had to step in? I saw that as the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of people seeing Wukong as a "good" person.

So what we end up with is a Wukong that seemed to have regressed from his JTTW self and all his numerous, destructive, and overbearing flaws makes you question what he even learned on the Journey in the first place.
