#what i'm thinking rn#post dai when he has the cure for the blight#he's tested it on blighted animals or w/e and it's all good#the wardens are officially ignoring him but there's a small group that are down w/the shit he's doing#he just can't find a volunteer among the wardens#so al is like hello beloved#this shit concerns the fuck out of me but i'll be your test subject#so he starts doing the same thing he did on the animals on al#but it isn't working the same so he's trying to adjust as he goes#and it's not working#al is just getting sicker and sicker and ilya physically can't reverse what he's doing#and he just...slowly dies
#this is obviously after they have a surprise baby and their daughter is just a few years old#and ilya is coping BADLY because of fucking course#but he's determined to get it right#so he does the same process on someone who got blighted#and it works the same way as it did on the blighted animals#so clearly it's the joining that's the issue
#he focuses entirely on curing people who got blighted normally because they won't let him get close to any of the joining materials until-#-post dav#but he's never able to fully cure it#you still gotta take meds every day but it's fairly simple to make on your own so he doesn't need to micromanage it
#he writes this whole ass book pre-dav including instructions on what you need to do to yourself to access the kind of magic required#and then the step by step process for mage wardens who do all that to follow in order to cure someone
#first warden denounces it and spreads a lot of bullshit about him among the wardens bc there's a lot of blood magic involved#and it's super risky to the mage warden who tries to do what ilya did to himself#also it'd kinda make an army of near immortal warden mages#but he can't just quietly kill the hero of ferelden
anyway so the first warden is hiding the info. and ilya's like. you fucking asshole my husband died for this. we can save people. but obv this is after the Great Blood Mage Bullshit of DAI so he doesn't want anyone touching any of this shit since it'd be very public. Ilya meanwhile doesn't gaf because he'll kill an army of templars if he needs to.
so basically the entire time between then and dav (max probably a year or so) he's trying to find wardens to help him. he gets velana and maybe a few other wardens here and there but none of the mages are willing to do that to themselves. i think he probably tries to find out if anders is still alive at one point out of desperation.
then dav happens (spoiler zone after this) and well, now there's a whole ass blight in the south again. morrigan collects him bc she's been taking care of his daughter alongside kieran (who's an older teen/young adult by this point iirc) and (very easily) convinces him to stop wandering around and help the inquisitor unite the south.
so now he's just working nonstop as someone who cures blighted people. has a whole team. sometimes goes out to areas just to cure the blight there. but it's not enough if he does it alone, and if a mage warden starts the process he went through to access this magic it'd be years before they could help with that and they need to focus on killing darkspawn en masse. it's really just his group of wardens that don't go back to weisaupt because hello? there's so much blight happening in the south? are you CRAZY?
and so he just keeps going. never really took the time to mourn alistair, doesn't slow down at ALL. helps jaya manage everything when he can as something of an advisor, goes up to the north with morrigan to get info on what the fuck the gods are doing, etc. really just doing fucking everything and constantly running on next to no sleep.
but then it's over and the blight has calmed the fuck down. he has to do significantly less to keep it in check and clear it out. the wardens that are left are much more unified and there are volunteers lining up to learn from him. and he's functionally immortal, too, so he just persists on like this with these wardens he's trained working with solas to permanently calm/eradicate the blight everywhere - including the black city.
at some point post-dav he and morrigan get unofficially married (just kind of quietly commit to each other, they were already co-parenting for ages before al died anyway) and take a few vacation years together with their kids before getting back to work.
his daughter that i still haven't fucking named yet has a family of her own. she's also a mage and I'm kind of playing with the idea of her inheriting mythal after morrigan but idk yet. so he has an active family that grows and ages and dies while he does all of this, but it's still a huge source of comfort to him once he learns to deal with outliving them all. anyway when it's all done in however many decades or centuries he's like tight. killing myself now LOL.
what if i just kill alistair in ilya's canon
#p#ilya surana#feels good to have something of a conclusion to his story where everything comes together#that's the best thing dav gave me
