The Ring
Sometime after Mulder and Scully Meet The Weremonster, they both get a little handsy and are embarrassed that they have worn their wedding rings as a necklace the entire time they have been separated; 1.3k words; rated t; tagging @today-in-fic
Part 1: The Ring
The ring is a symbol of unity, eternity, constancy, and hope. They had always had that in excess, there was no doubt, or at least Mulder had thought. He considers each of these things as he thumbs the gold band Scully had placed on his fourth finger almost a decade ago. The wedding ring, once placed, shouldn’t be removed, not for poverty, not for sickness, not even in death. It should have tied them together forever. The cold overhead office lights catch and glimmer on the ring as Mulder twists it between his fingers and swivels in his chair. He still considers himself a married man, even through his failings. It has been over for a while between them, but hope is a hard thing to kill, especially when he again gets to see her smile everyday.
The distinctive click of Scully’s heels gets louder as she walks towards the office door. An involuntary grin, pulls at the corners of his mouth. Quickly, he drops the ring behind his shirt, where it hangs out of sight on a chain he wears around his neck. She saunters in with two steaming coffee cups in her hands and a new file tucked under her arm. “Skinner has sent us another case–one to get your paranormal juices flowing.”
Seeing Scully in good form, beautiful as always, his grin turns coy as his heart beats allegro presto. He stands and swoops around her, taking his coffee and talking closely in her ear, “Paranormal juices?” he delights in her smirk– “Is that a quote from Skinner or have you got more creative juice in that coffee than you are letting on?”
He may have pushed her away, she may have moved out–called the end to their relationship–but he is still a married man and hope is a hard thing to kill.
Part 2: The Unity
...Some time later...
Mulder pauses for a moment, appreciating the beauty sitting in his lap before him, how she seems to grow finer with each passing year, like a wine he can’t afford to taste, but can’t help thirsting for. The lights of the lamps in the living room are dim, giving Scully an ethereal glow as he brushes his fingers through her hair. It falls like the red curtain at the end of the final act around her face, tasting him with a hunger that reminds him that the story is never over. She had been off the menu for so long and he doesn’t know what he’s done to deserve her desire again but he doesn’t question it as her tongue seeks his, falling to her will so comfortably.
Somewhere at the back of his mind, he remembers that she took him up on his open invitation for dinner at their once shared home; she was the one that suggested a film when the case reports got too tiring; she snuggled up to him on the old familiar couch, thighs touching side by side and then a head resting on his shoulder. He had embraced her brazen physical contact like catching an individual cherry blossom falling from the sky: admiring its wonder and cautious of its fragility. Scully had taken the worry of that blossom and thrown it aside the moment she had turned her lips against the pulse point of his neck.
Her tongue drags along that point now, drawing out an appreciative groan from him. His hands settle on her hips and rock her closer, appreciating how her body, still strong, has softened with the years.
He keeps his eyes open, afraid that this is a cruel dream, that if he blinks she will drift away like smoke as she did many years ago. He watches as her perfect blue eyes roll back and her eyelashes flutter when she grinds herself against the bulge in his jeans. It’s a vision he’s witnessed many times but never tires of. His thumb trails up her body to rest on her chin, gently coaxing her lips apart, replacing her need for air with his own lips. He can feel her smile against them.
He’s afraid to ask but he has to know, so on a shallow breath he murmurs, “What are we doing?”
“Reconnecting.” Scully lets her forehead rest against his. “Is this okay?”
“God, yes, I just…”
It’s her turn to run her fingers through his hair. “It’s okay.”
With a wicked grin, she starts slowly rolling against him again and he lets her play this slow dance, basking in the waves of pleasure she creates. Her fingers wander down from playing with the fuzzy hair at the nape of his neck to laying her palms flat against his chest, mooring herself at his harbour.
Mulder stiffens and his blood heats, his heart beating erratically against the walls of his chest. Under his shirt, between the frame of her hands, lies a chain that’s tied him for so long, its presence had become a second skin. It wasn’t a secret, but it was hidden out of sight: a symbol of unity and eternity he could not part with even when Scully had parted with him.
“Mulder?” Her sweet voice cuts through his embarrassment, her worry bringing him back to the moment.
“I’m alright. I just…” He sighs. There shouldn’t be shame in carrying that part of her close to his chest in a gold band. He couldn’t have let her see it on his finger–their marriage through, or so he had thought–but he couldn’t part with it either. Despite his failings and her forced distance, he still considered himself a married man. He couldn’t let her know he had never kept his promise of letting her go. Gently, he moves her hands away from his chest. He couldn’t let her feel the ring.
“Mulder…” Her bright blue eyes pierce his soul as she searches for an answer to his hesitation. “Talk to me.”
He chews his lip. “Maybe we shouldn’t do this.”
Crestfallen, she whispers, “What do you mean?”
“We were doing so well, keeping on friendly terms, not complicating this relationship… I–” The gold burns into his chest. Hanging his head, he mumbles, “I don’t want to lose you again. Not over a stupid mistake.”
He can hear the slight tremble in her voice and can picture the tears unspilled in the corner of her eyes. “Do you think this is a mistake?”
“No! That’s what I mean. I–”
Scully interrupts him this time, bringing his hand to lie flat over her chest. He can feel the thrumming of her heart so lively directly beneath his palm. Curious, he looks up to her.
She closes her hand over his, sealing a sacred truth. “You never lost me.”
Something cold tickles thumb just underneath her shirt. He tries to move his hand to find the source of it, suspicious that she has kept him close by too all this time, yet her grip tightens around his, holding him in place. Her face is painted with the same shock and instinctive worry that he had felt earlier. Slowly, trusting, she loosens her grip.
Mulder places a chaste kiss to her cheek, not reaching for her shirt but instead unbuttoning his own. “You never lost me,” he repeats almost with a chuckle. Reaching beneath his shirt he pulls out his wedding ring and places it in her upturned hand, watching the chain spool in her palm. “I was afraid that you would uh think… less of me if you saw this.”
With his index finger, he caresses down the opening of her shirt, tickling her flushed skin. He smiles when she pushes her chest into him despite herself. Hooking his finger around the second hidden chain, he pulls out her wedding ring, the cool diamond he had felt earlier glistening in the light.
She dips her head to hide her laugh like she used to in her youth. “I guess I should have seen this coming.”
He drops her ring into her hand and wraps his arms around her, chuckling as he kisses her, “We both should have.”
Between their bodies, Scully clutches her fist, holding their rings together, unified at last.

The verdict. (TW: Drugs, mature themes, toxic relationships.)
The backstage area in the Seoul Arts Centre is alive with the sound of ballerinas rushing around like rabid peacocks. The illusion of grace is just that, an illusion. The truth is, half of them are hopped up on cocaine, supplies that their sponsors provide financing for. The other half are too young, too stupid, or too snobbish to realize one day they will end up being coke-trophies too, if they want to achieve greatness.
Jimin is a blur, like a cartoon on steroids, racing from one wall to the other, high on lollipops and coffee. It’s unbelievable that during the performances, he even has grace, but he has, he always does. Outside in the spacious corridors, the flurry of backstage activity is heightened, but no one is paying attention to him yet. When it’s his time, he’ll be shoved out to leap into a grand jeté and steal the show. Until then, he’s just a ghost, wandering around and peering into other people’s dressing rooms as if he’s lost something valuable. He can hear the more distant buzz of the guests, sipping champagne in the lobby as they wait for the show to start. They will have on their cocktail dresses, their gowns, and their firmly pressed suits, all worn like armor, empty eyes winged with liner and pocket watches showily flashed under the lights of the chandeliers. It's a special conundrum to dislike the audience he most appeals to.
Tonight’s performance is a variant of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Jimin is the water nymph, clad in form-fitting trousers in shifting shades of deep sapphire and soft cerulean that shimmer like the surface of a moonlit sea, catching every glint of light as if alive, hair is swept back effortlessly, damp with shimmering sprays that glisten like morning dew, with flecks of silver and lavender dusted across his freckled skin. He looks exquisite, but still, he doesn’t like it. He’d rather just have the leotard back. He isn’t the greatest fan of change.
The damned irony.
Upstairs, he bumps into the dance troupe grouped together, already halfway through their prayer. Jimin crouches down, shuffle-hops, and lands somewhere in the middle before the ballet master realizes he wasn't there. They end with their hands thrown into the air, and it's that moment he realizes, something is off. As he stands at the side of the stage waiting for his cue, he peeks around the screen at the audience, squinting past the lights, taking only a proper look at the first row. Then he looks up at the VIP boxes, and there he sees him. His father. He’s got his fingers interlaced again, resting on the edge of the balcony. As if he gives a fuck about ballet, as if he’s spent his life going to these shows, and he’s riveted to every move.
“Jimin, in five—” the stage director hisses, and pats him on the arm in passing. He closes his eyes, asks his mother for good luck, and then springs forward.
(9PM, Seoul Arts Centre, the Performance)
He pirouettes on the spot, and in the space of that single movement, he lets his arms unfurl gracefully, tracing a long, flowing arc through the air. His hands glide like ribbons in motion, swirling with the same fluidity as a streak of moonlight as he leaps into a grand jeté, all grace and precision. He knows he looks good, as the dance turns into an allegro, making use of the entire floor space of the theatre. His movements slow down, cheeks flushed, and he runs a hand over his thighs before arching himself into a starting position for a promenade and arabesque. He turns on the spot, single foot shifting him in increments as if the floor is turning him instead. In the eyes of the guests watching him, the lines of his body are perfect, a perfect ballet dancer in a music box.
Then, without warning, a sharp, burning warmth floods his nostrils. Blood wells and spills, vivid and raw, tracing a crimson path down his lip. His breath catches, heart hammering in sudden panic. In that fractured moment, his eyes snap upward, drawn like a magnet to the VIP box. There, his father sits, watching with a cold, unreadable gaze that freezes the blood running through Jimin’s veins. For a heartbeat, his father’s eyes narrow, just the faintest crease of disdain or was it disappointment? Then his lips press into a thin, pale line, the faintest curl of a smirk twisting at the corner, as if savoring some cruel secret. Lips parting just enough to mouth the words,
“You’re still not perfect.”

I'm going to be visiting Halcyon soon! Any advice or tips for me? Do you know any locations that are like an absolute must go that aren't too touristy?
hi anon!! happy 2 help <3 ig the first thing you gotta make sure is get that travel insurance that tourists to halcyon get, I don't know what the process is to get it or how much it costs but it's the biggest thing I hear my parents tell any friends or family from out of town who are visiting
2nd thing, stay up 2 date with Lifeline! she has an app but like u don't need to download anything she live updates her website/works w local news so yr good there. she and her team are the best to keeping up 2 date with any villain activities that would mess up yr day, it's like the weather app but for people who have emotional issues and too much power lol
most places in halcyon attract a lot of tourists bc of like... we're halcyon... so just epexct traffic, use our public transport as much as possible. art district is great there's a lot of cool museums there of like the history of halcyon and just art museums, also they're really big on street art/graffiti. wharf district is really gr8 if u like seafood, my parents go to nice restaurants in the area for their anniversaries and they like it a lot! I would say just avoid downtown/business district unless u want to go to town hall (which like, it's boring so idk why u would want to do that but I've heard the architecture is cool so w/e)orrrrr if you want to go to the Halcyon Old Town Cemetery. It's fucking huge and I love that place a lot, it's a bit touristy during the fall tho bc of halloween, but we still have a lot of cool ass cemeteries and u should visit all of them.
If u like cool coffee go to Allegro Cafe, they're local and have like 3 locations around the city. Also go to Mikey's Bake Shop, Sweet n Salty Diner, and Betsy's Saltwater Taffy. I love Sweet n Salty Diner i go there a lotttt. Oki uh I think that's all! Hope u have a good trip to our weird ass city !

'Mornin' everyone, Mr. Baggins back with our Morning Coffee Music, selections to get us in gear and in good cheer on this chilly Tuesday morning. Let's start this morning off right with Bach. So far in our survey of the classic boxed set by harpsichordist Malcolm Hamilton of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier, we have heard Preludes and Fugues numbers 1 through 12. Now let's hear Nos 13, 14, and 15.
youtube
youtube
youtube
Ah, isn't that better? Only thing that could make it better is more Bach! So far in our survey of the complete Brandenburg Concerti in its 1960 reading by Karl Ristenpart, we've heard Nos 1, 2, 4, and 5. Let's listen to No. 3 this morning. Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, in G Major, BWV 1048, Karl Ristenpart and The Chamber Orchestra of The Saar.
youtube
Let's turn from Bach to Vivaldi, his Trumpet Concerto in A-flat, in a classic recording by trumpeter Maurice André and Jean-François Paillard Chamber Orchestra.
youtube
Let's step from the Baroque right into the Romantic, with Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, The "Scottish" Symphony, in an exceptional performance by (now) SIR Neville Marriner and The Academy, recorded in 1994.
youtube
And as a treat, let's hear Rudy Serkin's 1959 recording of Mendelssohn's First Piano Concerto, with Ormandy/Philadelphia. This is the reference recording by which all others are measured.
Now here is a rare treat, Igor Stravinsky conducting his 1945 revision of The Firebird Suite in Japan in 1959! It doesn't get any better than this, other than the studio version of this same 1945 revision.
youtube
Now let's hear oboist Heinz Holliger with Marriner and The Academy in Telemann's Oboe Concerto in C minor, TWV 51:c1.
youtube
And to send us all off to a pleasant rest of our day, here is the Jean-Francois Paillard Chamber Orchestra, with their famous 1968 recording of Pachelbel's Canon, a "feel-good" piece if there ever was one.
youtube
That's all the space I've got for today's Morning Coffee Music. I do hope you've enjoyed the selections today! This is Mr. Baggins signing off for now, I'll return at 2pm Pacific with your Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax!
Until then, be kind, babies, be kind.
Baggins out.

I went up north the other day to give David the carving I made for him, and to see the new Almodóvar film at the Center for Contemporary Arts with James. David did a haphazard installation of the piece (pictured above) and it was so nice seeing it in his home.
David lives on the plaza, so we set out on foot with the goal of hitting three different museums and galleries. It was really cold and even the water from the drain pipes was frozen. We saw my friends’ work who are all in a show together, a group show I also applied for but got rejected from. We got distracted and didn’t end up going to the museums, but we did eat at a Japanese restaurant where we were the only two guests.
The Almodóvar movie was beautiful. James and I talked a lot about it on the car ride back from the theater. That’s my absolute favorite thing about seeing a movie with a friend. You must either drive back from the theater together or get coffee or take ten in the parking lot at the very least (not ideal but will do in a pinch). Otherwise what’s the point? You may as well see a movie alone.
Driving home is one of my favorite parts of visiting up north. Especially at night, when the roads are emptier and you can see all the stars out of your window. One hour and fifteen minutes of what is, to me, meditation. There’s not a lot in between the two cities, so it’s totally dark around you. A lot of people from my city don’t like making the trip up there because of the drive; but I love any excuse to be in the car, driving by myself for that long. It forces me to be still.
On the drive up I had listened to Dvořák’s 9th. You can tell a lot of movie score composers have been inspired by it. You can hear some Jaws and even some Lord of the Rings and something else I recognize but can’t place. But on the way back I listened to Rach’s 2nd symphony because its melancholy is unreserved and has little grandeur, which is better for a contemplative night drive. I’ve been really only able to listen to classical music lately. I find lyrics too unrelatable and for some reason irritating right now. I love jazz, but right now it feels like classical music is the only genre that allows me to feel my current range of emotions, which lately is vast and implacable. Maybe I will move on soon. Maybe it will last a while.

Give in to an intrusive thought
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest question one might have about Allegro is...why? Why go an adventure with a random group of characters that she never met prior to their journeys? Why did this pretty girl choose the live of being a bard and traveling the world for some silly coin, instead of using her looks and charm to get any stallion that she wanted?
Did she have a desire to get more out of life, growing up in a small town? Not really. Times were great in Trotluca. Her family ran a successful coffee shop. The love of her life was a leading politician in the area and had bigger goals on his plate. They were going to be happy for a very long time.
Or so Allegro thought.
Her husband-to-be rose the ranks in part because of connections with a seedy mob, connections that she was blissfully unaware of. One day he decided to cut off those connections, and a tense confrontation followed. He vowed that once he became governor of their land, he was going to wipe out the mob and their bad influence. It was a bold statement, but one that ultimately sealed his fate.
Allegro witnessed his murder firsthand, and the mob then set their eyes on her. Thinking she would be easy pickings, the leader of the gang promised he would do vile and vicious things to her once he captured her. Allegro did nothing wrong, apart from being in love with a guy that had a hit successfully put on him. And now they wanted more.
She somehow escaped, but knew right there and then that her days living in her quiet small town were over. Hiding in the woods, Allegro had to fend for herself. And luckily for her, a chance connection with a curious monk goat who followed her led her to the party of misfits that would take her in.
Even though the tragic day was long ago and she retired with riches of her own, the threat of the mob never goes away. They were always going to look for her. They were always going to find a way. And Allegro knows she couldn't get lucky a second time. The horrible, intrusive thought that the clock will run out on her pops up from time to time. And the only way to cope is to grab a weapon, scream that they won't get her, and cry her eyes out.

NDIS auditor's shocking past as a convicted fraudster is exposed
An auditor who inspects NDIS providers on behalf of the disability watchdog has been exposed as a convicted fraudster.
Lisa Scully narrowly avoided jail time for her offences when she was convicted in 2016.
Since then she has been working as a 'lead auditor' of NDIS companies, for a certification body approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Ms Scully has engaged in any wrongdoing in that time.
Prior to her appointment, Ms Scully was caught fraudulently approving invoices while working as a manager at Newcastle City Council, north of Sydney.
She was also caught accepting gifts including a coffee machine and an oven from a software company which was given a contract with the council.
Expand article logo Continue reading
Ms Scully pleaded guilty to being an agent giving false document to a principal, being an agent corruptly receiving benefit and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
At the time of her offences, it was reported Ms Scully was in charge of overhauling the council's garbage system and was responsible for 140 staff.
Tumblr media
A Newcastle Local Court heard Ms Scully allegedly accepted kickbacks after she fraudulently awarded a software company a tender for a new GPS tracking system for garbage trucks, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The court also heard that the software company had offered Ms Scully 'anything she wanted' and that she approved $36,000 worth of fake invoices.
The fake invoices were from the software company and were used so that Ms Scully could buy kitchen goods and electronic devices for herself.
Ms Scully was sentenced to a 20-month intensive correction order - a type of imprisonment sentence that is served in the community rather than in jail.
In January 2019, Ms Scully re-entered the workforce as a community, corporate support consultant at We Care overseeing NDIS audits, according to her LinkedIn page.
She describes herself as a 'lead auditor in NDIS, ISO and Australian Services Excellence Standards Compliance'.
Ms Scully's current role is as a 'Lead Auditor' at Global Compliance Certification.
The company, which is approved by the NDIS Commission, handles audits of various companies to certify they comply with the NDIS Practice Standards.
Managing Director at Global Compliance Certification Mousa Sharifi described Ms Scully as an 'amazing' auditor.
Mr Sharifi said Ms Scully was forthcoming with her prior convictions, had passed a police and working with children's check and was also recommended by three referees.
'We did our due diligence, and in the capacity of an NDIS auditor they have nothing to do with financials,' Mr Sharifi told the Daily Telegraph.
Mr Sharifi added it was not the company's job to punish people for things that they had done, as that was a responsibility reserved for the justice system.
Ms Scully is also the director of Allegro Associates, which is a company that audits and pre-audits for the NDIS Commission.
'My work focuses on audit readiness (NDIS, ISO, Australian Service Excellence Standards), policy and governance systems, organisational reviews, and strategic project delivery,' Ms Scully wrote on LinkedIn.
'With over 800 audit days completed and a background spanning executive leadership, quality systems, and service development, I bring practical, results-driven support to providers navigating compliance, growth, or service transformation.'
The NDIS Commission does not directly employ auditors. Instead, an auditor is hired through independently certified auditing bodies.

Brewing Success: A Comprehensive Analysis of Mexico's Thriving Coffee Market
Tumblr media
Mexico’s Coffee Market is Expected to Grow at a Significant Growth Rate, and the Forecast Period is 2023-2030, Considering the Base Year as 2022.
Mexico is the ninth-largest producer of coffee in the world, and it is one of the main agricultural exports from the nation. The growing premiumization of coffee, the growing desire for organic and fairly traded products, and the expansion of coffee consumption in emerging economies are all predicted to propel growth in the Mexican coffee industry in the future years.
Small-scale farmers, who usually cultivate their coffee on less than two hectares of land, produce the majority of coffee in Mexico. As a result, Mexico's coffee market is dispersed and home to numerous small growers.
The domestic and export markets make up the two primary segments of the Mexican coffee market. Of the two, the domestic market is bigger and is dominated by instant coffee. Although the export market is smaller, it is expanding quickly, and speciality coffee is the dominant product.
The Mexican coffee sector appears to have a promising future. The nation has a robust coffee culture, and there is an increasing domestic and global market for coffee. Mexico has a strong foundation in sustainable coffee production and is well-positioned to take the lead in the world coffee market.

Sunday, 12-15-24, 7pm Pacific
'Evenin', all...Mr. Baggins here with your Sunday Serenade, music to soothe your achin' nerves and help ease us all into a good night. It's been a rather low-key, old-favorites kinda day today, and that's how we'll keep it. Settle in for an hour and a quarter of the best recording of the Strauss Family Waltzes ever made. Of course, I'm talking about Fritz Reiner and The Chicago's RCA Living Stereo set, recorded in 1957 and 1960.
youtube
This evening we begin a survey of the Piano Concertos of Franz Joseph Haydn. The only one that ever gets to see the light and fresh air is the famous D Major concerto, which we've heard performed both on the Harpsichord and the Modern Piano. This is Haydn's Piano Concerto No. 1, Hob. XVIII:1. It is performed for us here by Massimo Palumbo, piano, with Österreichischen Kammersymphoniker, conducted by Ernst Theis.
youtube
Next is a gorgeous little Sonata for Oboe and Piano, Op. 58, by the French composer Charles Koechlin, written between 1911 and 1916. Our oboist is Stefan Schilli, with pianist Oliver Triendl. Koechlin was an interesting composer; a political radical of his day, he traveled to the US four times, and lectured at UC Berkeley.
youtube
Staying with 20th Century French chamber works, here is neo-classicist composer Jean Français' "Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano", written in 1994. This is an elegant and charming little work in four movements. Our bassoonist is Julien Hardy, oboist is Frédéric Tardy, and our pianist is Simon Zauoi.
youtube
Next we hear an equally elegant and charming little work by Beethoven, his Trio for 2 Oboes and English Horn in C major, Op. 87, played for us today by Marilyn Zupnik, Kathryn Greenbank, and Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia.
youtube
And here is Beethoven's lovely Serenade for Flute, Violin and Viola in D Major, Op. 25. Performed by James Galway and The London Virtuosi.
youtube
Next we hear the gorgeous Holberg Suite For String Orchestra, Op. 40, of Edvard Grieg. Written in 1884, we hear it performed by the ensemble known as "A Far Cry", a Boston-based band who have been around since 2007, nominated for several grammies...they are a consistent and well-rounded group, as well as being a very egalitarian group, like the legendary Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, with members taking turns leading.
youtube
Lets hear these folks in another recording, this one of Elgar's "Introduction and Allegro for String Orchestra and String Quartet", Op. 47, composed in 1905. Once again, "A Far Cry".
youtube
And there's room for one more work this evening on our Sunday Serenade, and it's the lovely "Brook Green Suite" by Gustav Holst, completed in 1933. We hear The English Sinfonia, conducted by Howard Griffiths.
youtube
And that brings our Sunday Serenade to a close for this evening. I do hope you've enjoyed this evening's program, and possibly heard something new to your ear. This is Mr. Baggins signing off for now, I'll return at 8am Pacific with our Morning Coffee Music.
Until then, dream sweet dreams, babies, dream sweet dreams.
Baggins out.
