Steve Harrington; Accidental Dominant
Chapter ten - read it here
“I like Eddie.”
“Okkkayyyyy...in a kind of, friend way or in a kind of-”
“The other one. Yeah. The other, uhm, option.”
“Right, right, yeah, of course. Of course. You. Dooooo.” Robin is quiet for a long time, and Steve feels silently judged even though it’s more likely that she’s just figuring out how to handle this. Like she’s mentally putting her softest gloves on or whatever, ready to handle Steve in a way that means he won’t just fucking fall apart.
Or she’s mentally getting her bomb defusing kit out, trying to judge which wire to cut so that Steve doesn’t explode. Yeah. Probably that. Steve’s not good at this but that analogy feels pretty good.
“So...how did we...arrive here?” She asks cautiously. Steve can feel the bed shifting and see it in the edge of his vision as she moves her hands as she talks.
Steve sighs, covers his face with his hands, and mumbles “you don’t want to know.”
“Oh right. So I definitely do want to know then.”

The Quest For Complete Games
Tumblr media
When D&D (1974) first came out, it wasn’t a complete game. In The Elusive Shift, Jon Peterson quotes a person saying in 1979 that “D&D is, in fact, less a game than a design-a-game kit”. Over the last 50 years, that’s a tension that hasn’t gone anywhere. Today, there are lots of games that are games and lots that are design-a-game kits.
There are games that say “this is what the game is about” and games that ask “what do you want it to be about?”.
If the appeal for both isn’t clear, think about buying a table and making one. I’m sure 99% of people reading this would buy a table but surely, it’s clear that making one could be extremely enjoyable and rewarding.
What I like about this analogy is that even as I really dislike games that ask me to make the game, I’m quite delighted to know that there is a culture where people make their own tables. It’s nice. And maybe I would do it if I wasn’t doing other things.
(I say “could be rewarding” because if you’re going to be doing so much work, you better not be hinging it on someone else liking your table. That sounds like a recipe for disappointment and so many RPG horror stories are about just that.)
But the funny thing about the RPG industry is because of the weight of tradition, most games feel like they’re not complete games – they all seem to require some amount of work to finish. The amount of work can vary. When I prep to run Impossible Landscapes, the module has some great stuff but it’s so dense and can’t be referenced during play. So I have to make extensive, exhaustive notes. When I play Pasion de la Pasiones, there’s some great moves at the heart of it but there’s a lot of setting and genre that has to be constructed around it.
(I don’t think this is bad per se. It’s hard to play the saxophone but I would never say it was designed badly. But there is a reason why there are only a few saxophonists.)
I go back to Johnstone Metzger’s post about how you can classify games based on the GM materials: “a pre-designed map, a pre-designed world, a linear storyline, a pre-designed relationship matrix, and materials for improvisation.” These are all ways that designer nudge RPGs towards being complete. It’s not about picking one, it’s about combining as many as you need.
(It’s also instantly clear how “materials for improvisation” is the least clear term in that list and someone needs to get in there and build on that.)
This is probably the most exciting trend for me in game design right now. The movement towards completeness and all the paths it takes. But in Elusive Shift, Peterson’s argument is that with AD&D, the goal was to make a complete game as well as a closed one. Peterson is wistful, almost sad, for the period of creativity that came before. If we want to learn from history, it’s good to remember that even as we seek complete games, we’re not trying to create homogeneity or stultify creativity.

11, 15, 27, and 30 for the fictionfolk asks :3c
Answering according to the fictionfolk ask game
11. Do you experience any shifts (mental, phantom, dream, etc) of your fictional identity? Share a bit about those and how they feel!
I’ve gotten a number of mental shift, or just general vague vibe of a shift.
I think it’s during the time when I feel mentally aligned as if me and my ‘type are in-sync, and I feel much closer to them. One time when I was particularlly bad in mental moment, I feel like I can empathize extra strongly with the canon Naruto, when he was shunned by the villager for being seen as monstrous.
Does meditative vision count as a form of dream shift or a memory? Dream shift/memory is just plain funky to categorize. I had one time, between me snoozing and about to fall asleep enter a sort of trance, and this vision of a young Naruto running amongst the Uzushio nomad ran through my mind’s eyes. I questioned a lot if it is a headcanon or “fever dream” or what have you, but it feels too, natural? innate? Who knows, it could be a cumulation of all the fanfic I’d read. I’d like to think that a memory of sort tied to my hearttype, which I’d question if a kardiatype once upon a time.
Other shift I can’t really define, they are as vague as the vaguetype itself. The star dragon Stellus that share a species with Aurelion Sol from LoL took the combined effort of me and Akumu to maintain. We maybe linked to intended that way? It’s like a dragon/lion dance done by two of us. Except we are both dragons ourselves 🤣
Anyways, shifts. It’s too subtle at times to fully call it any specifically termed shifts, and kinda comes and goes in terms of “do we feel closer or more like this dragon” or “we feel more inclined towards stars and galaxy symbol or theme today” or “we feel the urge to create stars”. It’s almost like mirage under the eclipse? Which is a weird analogy but that’s what crossed my mind.
Talking about shift with archetrope is a really weird one. You are actively being and embodying that thing, is it a shift every time you feel like fulfilling what that role entails, or is that just the way of your lifestyle? Either way, my Mew archetrope is a paratype from me as a dream dragon(kind), so I’m always embodying the Mew paratype-archetrope. “Perma shifted” I guess.
15. Do you have a favourite piece of fanart/fanfic/etc that ties into your identity? Share it (with credit)!
OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS. Do I? DO I?!!
Ahem.
Mind the tags. Check the summaries. And yeah they are all similar in tropes.
For Naruto hearted:
Of Harrowed Hearts by Sable_Scribe
The Fox Kit by CaptaInCynophobIa
Stormborn by blackkat
An Invincible Summer by ShanaStoryteller
For Somnivago Stelforma vaguelink:
this one done by yours truly ;3
Cause ngl am pretty proud of this one.
27. Do you have any fictional hearthomes? What are your favourite things about them?
I’ve got a para-hearthome with the Hisui region of Pokemon, mainly due to my (likely) Joumon period ancient Japan hearthome. Other than that, I vaguely have some feeling towards Moana’s general setting and island due to my Naruto’s strong ties towards Uzushio, and that Uzushio being seafaring folk. So yet another paratype hearthome(ish).
They are all tied to the general vibe of my hearthome that’s tied to my kardiatype—ocean. And I like that ocean makes me feel calm, and comforted. I also like that they are all connected. I like when my identities are connected, is the Bond Weaver in me!
30. Have you ever had a fictotype turn out to be a fictionflicker or vice versa? What was that like?
I have a hard time distinguish what exactly was going on with the Flammie flicker, and thus I slap a vague- in front and call it a flicker that is a vaguetype. I like it, it work the best that way.
Haven’t really encounter any specific fictotype that turned out to be a flicker. I tend to chew on feelings at least a good while before I pin a label (or three) on there.

[Image ID: A pixel pride flag with the title "Clan Culture: Gender & Sexuality]
So... gay cats! I'll admit, RippleClan's Promise doesn't really focus on queer themes all that much, but there are gonna be some gay cats, and they're gonna be in realistic, well-written relationships, and I'm going to write them through the lens of a fictional culture! Yeah! I don't want the cats to see gender and sexuality just like modern humans do, so I want to give them a few quirks that you may have already seen in Moon 11.
Gender: Scent-Based Assumptions
Now I'll be honest, a lot of cats in the Clans are cis. It's just statistics, is all. However, cats don't have all the physical gender identifiers us humans do. Sure, ginger cats are more likely to be toms, and tortoiseshells are almost always born female, but there are plenty of exceptions! As such, Clan cats can't just assume they know what someone is from far away.
When meeting a new cat for the first time, when they are some distance away, a Clan cat will use they/them pronouns to define the newcomer. However, once the cat comes closer, the Clan cat then switches to he/him or she/her based on the cat's smell. This is because toms and mollies have distinct differences in their scent. The intensity of someone's hormonal scent varies throughout any given moon, but it is fairly consistent among fertile cats like those in the Clans. It's hard to translate tom-scent and molly-scent into human terminology, since a cat's sense of smell is far superior. However, based on research into actual cats, I have a few analogies.
Tom-scent is the stronger of the two and possesses a slight sour tint. Molly-scent, meanwhile, could best be described as both sweet and salty. Spayed/neutered cats possess either an extremely weak version of their birth-scent or none at all. In those situations, or when a cat's scent is confusing, Clan cats will check with the newcomer.
If your scent does not match up with your gender/pronouns, then you'll need to introduce yourself. This is common in Clan culture, so no one feels weird about it. It's weirder for someone whose scent matches their gender to specify pronouns, as in a Clan cat's eyes, its just restating something they already know.
Gender: Scent Affirmation
Since scent is the biggest identifier of toms and mollies, trans cats in the Clans focus less on changing stuff about their bodies and more on shifting their scents. Clerics have some treatments for this! Lemonweed is a common treatment to reduce tom-scent or molly-scent if the trans warrior eats some of it. When it comes to producing a certain scent, different cats need different herbs. Trans toms can use pine pollen, stinging nettle root, or sasparilla root. Trans mollies can add fennel to their diets instead.
If a cat is nonbinary or otherwise doesn't want their tom-scent/molly-scent, they'll focus on lemonweed. In theory, if humans kidnapped them and didn't kill them outright, they might be able to return with all that scent stripped away, but that's not really feasible.
Sexuality: We Care About One Thing and One Thing Only
Clan cats don't really care about sexual nuances. You can really date anyone (okay not really but not based on gender). They mostly look at individual relationships and ask a single questions: can they make kits?
I know, that's an icky question to us, but that's because we don't live in a society where our survival is contingent on a small population reproducing. All relationships are classified as either able or unable to have kits. Most straight relationships are in the former category. However, relationships between, say, a trans tom and cis tom might still fall into that category too (but I'm not writing that for... multiple reasons). These relationships have a cultural pressure to have at least one litter of kits that survive to adulthood. It can be hard to be in a relationship where kits are possible, but you just don't want any.
Meanwhile, if the relationship is physically unable to produce kits, there is some cultural disappointment that can linger over a relationship. However, this is resolved if the couple manage to adopt some kits (which considering how often Clangen cats just find random kits, isn't a long shot), as adoption is seen as the same as birthing kits right into the nursery.
(Up next, artisan lore!)

How to Cultivate Resilience (and Tomatoes) on a Budget: Brettney Perr Featured on Rent.com
You don’t need a big backyard, a trust fund, or a green thumb to start a garden or a transformation.
You just need the right knowledge and mindset to grow.
I recently had the opportunity to share my insights with Rent.com in their latest feature: “How to Start a Thriving Patio Vegetable Garden”, and I’m honored to have contributed practical, low-cost tips to help people connect with the joy of gardening and the resilience associated with growing your own food without the overwhelm.
Because whether we’re talking about nurturing a plant or rebuilding a life after trauma, growth is always possible. Even in broken places, and especially in the challenging ones!
From Planting Seeds to Reclaiming Power
When Rent.com asked for real-world strategies for starting a garden in small spaces, I didn’t have to think twice:
“Start with a local, family-owned nursery. They know their plants, care about their community, and will always give you the best advice.”
I’ve always believed in working with what you have, even if it isn’t much. That’s why I also shared ways to source soil and supplies from thrift shops, reuse containers like yogurt cups and strawberry clamshells, and grow plants from kitchen scraps. It’s not just sustainable, it’s connecting with your food and where it comes from.
That same philosophy inspired me to write the Resilience Journal.
Because just like a garden, your mental health needs regular tending, healthy boundaries, and the mindset to grow.
What Gardening Teaches Us About Emotional Survival
Those who have done coaching with me have heard me bring up the analogy of a weed in the garden and that the core problem a client experiences is like a weed’s taproot. If the taproot is not dealt with the problem of weeds taking over your garden will persist. It’s the same with addressing a core issue in ones life. That root can be bitter resentment or the pain we carry in our lives that robs us of our joy, the nutrients to grow, and cultivate the fruit we want to produce in our lives. Most of us weren’t taught how to regulate our nervous systems, process pain, or honor our needs. But just like seedlings turn toward the light, we instinctively move toward healing when we’re given the right tools.
The Resilience Journal was created for people like us people who are tired of self-help fluff and want practical, neuroscience-backed tools that make a measurable difference.
Track real progress, not perfection
Build habits that compound over time
Reflect, Reset, Rise again!
The Cultural Power of Growth
This isn’t the first time I’ve covered the deeper meaning of growing your own food and medicine. If you’re curious about how gardening is helping reshape access, equity, and healing in urban communities, check out this post on Logan’s Gardens: Shifting Culture One Plant at a Time.
Both features echo the same truth: Gardening isn’t just a hobby. It’s a revolution in resilience, a way to reclaim agency, nourish ourselves, and reconnect with what really matters.
Why this Matters
Being featured in Rent.com isn’t just a personal win it’s a reminder that resourcefulness is resilience.
In a world obsessed with aesthetics and performance, I’m here to champion the power of process. The quiet growth that happens when no one’s watching. The wisdom in reuse. The dignity of starting small.
Whether you’re sprouting seeds, in your kitchen, on your fire escape or reclaiming parts of yourself you thought were lost this season is fertile.
WHats Next?
If this resonated with you, even a little, here’s where you can start growing:
No Ready to for the The Resilience Journal 90-day roadmap to building emotional stability, clarity, and inner power? Try the Free Resilience Micro Habit Method. Its a high-impact starter kit built on neuroscience, trauma-informed principles, and small, repeatable shifts that rewire your mind for clarity and control. Start building strength where it counts: in your everyday decisions.
Lasting Thoughts
I’m not just planting veggies. I’m planting a new paradigm where survival becomes strength, and strength becomes strategy. So whether you’re holding a shovel, a pen, or your own broken heart, start where you are. There’s power in that. Read the full article Here!

Trail-Tested Essentials: The Gear You Need for Epic Hikes
Choose the Right Footwear and Backpack
Every long-distance hiker knows that a solid pair of hiking boots is the foundation of a successful trek. Footwear should be durable, weather-resistant, and offer ankle support for rough terrain. Look for boots made of breathable materials with a rugged outsole for traction on uneven paths. Comfort is king—so break them in before your hike begins. Bringing along extra insoles or blister tape can also be a lifesaver on extended journeys.
Your backpack is your portable home. It needs to carry everything you depend on without weighing you down. Opt for a pack with an adjustable frame and padded hip belt to evenly distribute weight. Pockets, hydration compatibility, and compression straps are helpful features to keep your load organized and steady. For week-long hikes, a capacity between 55 to 70 liters is typically ideal.
Stay Dry and Warm with Shelter and Sleep Gear
Long-distance hikes demand reliable shelter. A compact, lightweight tent that stands up to wind and rain is a must. Freestanding models are quick to set up and pack down, which is helpful when you’re covering miles each day. For warmer climates or ultralight enthusiasts, a hammock with a rainfly and bug net might be preferable.
A good night’s sleep starts with the right sleep system. A sleeping bag rated for your lowest expected temperature is essential, and pairing it with an insulated sleeping pad prevents heat loss through the ground. Don’t underestimate the power of sleep when you’re pushing your body every day—your gear should help you recharge.
Clothing That Performs in All Conditions
The weather can shift fast on the trail, and your clothing must adapt just as quickly. Pack moisture-wicking base layers, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof shell. This layering system allows you to regulate body temperature through changing conditions. Quick-dry hiking pants, synthetic underwear, and thermal socks help keep you comfortable and blister-free.
Accessories like gloves, a warm hat, and a sun-shielding cap shouldn’t be overlooked. Even in summer, chilly mornings and high-altitude conditions can surprise you, so be ready for anything.
Food, Water, and Cooking Supplies
Long-distance hiking burns a lot of calories, so you need high-energy food that’s easy to prepare. Pack a mix of protein, carbs, and healthy fats—nuts, dried fruits, jerky, and instant meals are all great options. A compact stove and lightweight cookware allow for warm meals and drinks, which can boost morale after a long day.
Hydration is just as important as food. Use a water reservoir for convenience and supplement with bottles for extra storage. Always carry a water filter or purifier, as natural water sources may not be safe to drink untreated. Plan your water stops carefully—running out can be dangerous in remote stretches.
Navigation, Safety, and Backup Tools
Don’t rely on your phone alone for navigation. Maps and compasses are essential backups in case of signal loss or dead batteries. A GPS device or trekking app can still be helpful, but analog tools should always be part of your kit.
Bring a compact first aid kit stocked with bandages, antiseptic, medications, and blister care supplies. Add a headlamp with spare batteries, a whistle, and an emergency blanket. For particularly isolated trips, consider a satellite communicator or personal locator beacon to stay connected when off-grid.
Preparedness Makes the Adventure Better
Long-distance hiking is a rewarding test of endurance, self-reliance, and planning. The right gear ensures that you not only survive the journey—but truly enjoy it. Whether crossing rugged mountains or winding through forest trails, your equipment becomes your closest companion. Pack smart, train well, and embrace the wilderness with confidence.

[pm] That one's better. I ain't good with analogies, which I'm sure is [...] obvious.
Uh... well, yes n' no. This thing, whatever it was, made me feel real hungry-like. Forced a shift, the whole kit n caboodle. Couldn't stop myself from eatin' that guy. Weren't no preamble or nothin', didn't feel it comin' on, so to speak... this has happened before, but it isn't [...] about hunger. And I know when it's comin'. Still can't stop it. But that's just a Barlow Special, far as I can tell.
Tumblr media
If I can ever retire, you bet your ass that's the first place I'm headed, cher.
[pm] Me neither! We're just two peas in a pod, you and I.
Tumblr media
Maybe the better analogy is like a snowball rolling down a hill. Regardless of whether the snowball starts big or small, if you don't stop it it'll be huge by the bottom. Nah, don't apologise. I like to keep busy.
No, that is useful information. Kind of sets the tone for how bad it could be. I don't love the idea of something pulsing through the town and making a bunch of folks lose control. Have you experienced anything like that before?
God, living in Florida would be the dream.

Night Shift - 3/16/24
The evening was pretty eerie. Darkness filled the entire hall and heavy rains rumbled the surroundings.
Mack, the prison guard assigned for the night, prepared the necessary things for 'survival'. A flashlight with extra batteries, a phone (despite the place having little to no signal), a small set of pocket books to pass by the time, and few bars of Kit-Kat.
Twelve hours isn't that long, he whispered to himself.
While sitting on an old rusty metal chair, he holds a logbook of information about the prisoners held in that particular cell. Mack felt terrified and excited for his new part-time job. A night shift in an old prison full of serial killers and psychopaths... what could possibly go wrong?
The heavy storms wouldn't stop. He locked all the doors leading to the main hall, where all who were incarcerated were locked up in unbreakable glass. It seems impossible for them to escape in this hell of a jail. Mack took one peek and heard groans of the madmen he had to spend the night with.
'Hmm,' he uttered. 'Wouldn't dare to gaze these creeps in this time.'
Mack closed the door. He felt sleepy. He looked at his analog watch and read the time: 23:39. He went back to his chair and closed the lights. He slept soundly to the pouring of the rain.
Tick, tock. Mack was awakened by the sound of the clock at the top of his head. The rain finally stopped. He grabbed his flashlight and checked the time: 02:48. He only slept three hours. Mack felt groggy. He still has nine hours to go. He figured he could just spend those left time with sleeping and get his paycheck, then leave this monstrosity.
He felt a sudden pound of his heart when he heard the main door shriek.
He tried to be calm, but the door slowly made a metallic sound, opening itself from the lock Mack tangled hours ago.
'No, God, please...' Mack felt nothing in those minutes but fear. Fearing he might face the end of his life in the hands of a random prisoner he doesn't even know the face of.
He quickly hid under a desk and dimmed the flashlight. He was panting heavily, sweat continuously falling down from the back of his neck. He can hear his own breathing in those moments of his life.
Mack heard heavy footsteps entering the room. He wondered who was this prisoner when he read that all of them were at least 5'5 tall.
He couldn't escape this. He doesn't have any weapon on him and his knuckles couldn't knock down this big guy.
Mack took a leap of faith and slowly crawled down to get himself outside of the guard's room. He closed his flashlight and took one step per minute to reach the end of the door. He took a quick look into the mysterious giant that just entered the room.
As he was about to scream, the lights suddenly open. Mack finally shouted and was extremely horrified by what he just saw. A bald man, with pinkish skin, no tops and just ripped jeans, with muscular body about 7'0 tall holding a butcher's knife appeared in front of a petite guard.
The man turned around and saw Mack lying on the ground. Mack didn't wait for any second and quickly ran and locked the door.
'Crap, crap, crap..' Mack had an intense adrenaline rush and could only think of leaving that place. He quickly opened the door to the hall and also locked it, to which he heard the heavy footsteps again.
He awakened the prisoners and started a riot within their cells, telling Mack to release them. The door started crumbling and scared the prisoners as well. Mack had nowhere to go. He was breathing heavily and prepared for the worst. He grabbed his phone and wished for a signal, contacting the chief.
The big man started to break the metal door. Mack remembered there was a secret fire exit at the side of one of the prisoners' cell. He got the keys and opened the cell door, which instantly opened every door there is. Mack released all the prisoners, but they were terrified to get out of their cells. The door finally breaks, and the giant wreaks havoc.
He grabs the first weak prisoner. A woman no younger than twenty. The giant chokes the woman and chopped her body. Other prisoners stared in horror, froze and went completely insane.
Mack opened the fire exit. As he was about to leave, his phone rings. The giant looks at Mack, and went for him. In the worst moments possible, a signal enters the infiltrated prison.
Mack tried to run but to no avail, he trips down while trying to save his life. He looks at his watch for a final time, it's 03:49. The lights close down one by one and the giant gets blind. He falls down with the butcher's knife stabbing himself, making him bleed.
All the prisoners cheered in unison, and quickly runs to get out. Mack went and observed the giant's body. He seems familiar. Oddly peculiar body yet something he has already seen before.
He looks at the dead woman's body. Her name was Betty. Mack disposed her body and went back to get his things before leaving. He texts the chief back.
'Something weird happened here. Gtg.' Mack put his phone in his pocket. Before closing the fire exit, he gets a call from the chief.
'You passed the night shift. Welcome to the team.' Mack smiled awkwardly, he wondered if the chief planned all these.
He looked at the dead giant's body once more.
And never looked back again.

Driving Precision: The Role of Pressure Gauge Calibration Services in Digital Tire Monitoring
Tumblr media
Ever taken a moment to marvel at the tiny tech wizardry that's your digital tire pressure gauge? It's this pocket-sized powerhouse that ensures you're cruising safely and efficiently on the road. But behind its digital precision lies a world of meticulous tuning and accuracy brought about by pressure gauge calibration services.
Buckle up, as we take you on a scenic drive through the streets of tire pressures, the highways of digital readings, and the pit stops of calibration. Let’s embark on this journey of understanding, precision, and safety, shall we?
The Unsung Hero: Understanding Digital Tire Pressure Gauges
Digital tire pressure gauges have become an indispensable tool for many drivers. Unlike their analog counterparts, these digital darlings provide a precise reading, often down to a tenth of a pound. But how do they work?
At their heart, they have pressure sensors that convert the mechanical force of the tire's air into an electrical signal. This signal is then translated into a readable value, which pops up on your screen. Cool, right?
Now, just because they're digital doesn't mean they're immune to inaccuracies. Like all devices, they can drift off over time. And that's where pressure gauge calibration services come into play. These services ensure your digital gauge is consistently on point, giving you accurate readings every time.
Remember, precision in tire pressure isn’t just about bragging rights. It's crucial for safety, fuel efficiency, and prolonging the life of your tires.
The Science Behind Pressure Gauge Calibration Services
Calibration sounds fancy, but it's really about comparison and adjustment. When you enlist the help of pressure gauge calibration services, they're essentially comparing your device's readings against a known standard. If there's any discrepancy, they'll adjust your device accordingly.
Why is this important? Picture this: You're going on a long drive, and your gauge reads 30 psi. In reality, though, it's 28 psi. Over time, this small discrepancy can lead to tire wear and even pose safety risks. Calibration ensures that what you see is what you get.
Pressure gauge calibration services are not just about correcting errors. They also test the repeatability and consistency of your gauge, making sure it provides reliable readings over and over again.
Do-It-Yourself vs. Professional Calibration
Some folks, particularly the DIY enthusiasts, might wonder if they can handle calibration on their own. While there are DIY calibration kits available, they might not offer the precision and reliability of professional pressure gauge calibration services.
Professional services have specialized equipment that's regularly calibrated against national or international standards. This means when they adjust your gauge, it's as accurate as it can be. They also often provide a certificate of calibration, which is a testament to the accuracy of your gauge post-service.
Remember, a poorly calibrated gauge can be worse than no gauge at all. If you're serious about tire safety and performance, consider investing in professional calibration.
The Frequency of Calibration: How Often Should You Do It?
Many factors influence the calibration frequency of your digital tire pressure gauge. The most common determinant is the usage pattern. But why does the frequency matter so much?
If you're using your gauge every day, the constant wear and tear can subtly shift its accuracy. In such cases, getting it checked annually is a wise move. It's a bit like visiting the dentist: regular checks can prevent bigger issues down the line. For occasional users, perhaps those who check tire pressures once a week or less, calibrating every two years is reasonable.
Yet, the environment also plays a role. If you're in a profession where the gauge is exposed to extreme conditions, such as high humidity or fluctuating temperatures, more frequent calibration might be necessary. It's always better to err on the side of caution.
Lastly, any instance where the gauge undergoes physical trauma, like being dropped or knocked about in the toolbox, should be followed by a calibration check. A quick check by professional pressure gauge calibration services can be the difference between a safe journey and a risky one.
Top Tips for Maintaining Your Digital Tire Pressure Gauge
Preserving the life and accuracy of your digital tire pressure gauge isn't just about the periodic check-in with pressure gauge calibration services. It's also about the day-to-day care.
Storage. Much like you wouldn't leave your smartphone lying around, your gauge too deserves a snug spot. A protective pouch or case not only keeps the screen scratch-free but also prevents damage to its sensitive parts.
Temperature care. Extreme cold can slow down the electronic components, whereas excessive heat might damage them. It’s best to keep the gauge at room temperature and avoid leaving it in places like a hot car dashboard.
Battery vigilance. Ever noticed how electronic devices act quirky with low battery? The same goes for your gauge. Regularly check and replace its batteries to ensure it's giving its optimal performance.
Cleanliness. A simple wipe-down can make a difference. Dust can sometimes interfere with the sensor’s ability to read pressure accurately. Make it a routine to clean your gauge with a soft cloth after use.
Manual checks. Every once in a while, compare your digital gauge's reading with an analog one. If there's a huge discrepancy, it might be time for a calibration.
The Future of Digital Tire Pressure Gauges and Calibration
The fascinating world of tire pressure gauges is ever-evolving. With the rapid pace of technological advances, these little devices are bound to see a lot of innovation.
Imagine a future where your gauge is interconnected with all the smart devices in your car. It could alert you on your smartphone or smartwatch if tire pressure drops suddenly, or perhaps even guide you to the nearest service station!
Moreover, with the rise of AI, self-calibrating gauges might soon be a reality. These would constantly compare their readings with global standards and adjust themselves in real time. This could potentially reduce, or even eliminate, the need for manual pressure gauge calibration services. For more details visit us at https://www.nemfg.com/.
Another potential advancement could be in the realm of augmented reality (AR). Point your AR-equipped gauge at a tire, and you might see a holographic display showing pressure, historical data, recommended levels, and more.
While the future seems exciting, it’s equally crucial to remember the core purpose of these devices: safety. As long as future innovations align with this fundamental principle, the sky’s the limit.
Conclusion
There you have it, a whirlwind journey through the fascinating world of digital tire pressure gauges and the unsung heroes of pressure gauge calibration services. As you roll down the highway, remember that behind every smooth ride is a well-maintained tire, and behind every accurate reading is a well-calibrated gauge.

Addressing the Troubles: Part 2 / 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Brief History of Gundam in Japan and the USA:
Here is my go-to analogy: The Gundam franchise is to Japan what Star Trek is to America. And Gundam Wing is to the Gundam franchise what Deep Space 9 is to the rest of Star Trek.
Wing was part of an experimental phase in the franchise’s history; when they were intentionally trying to break away from the usual modus operandi. Wing, along with the earlier G Gundam, was intended to boost flagging viewership and sell model kits– like, expressly, openly, just to sell model kits. The plan was to start from a blank slate that would allow new viewers to hop on board, without having to be caught up on the sprawling canon of the UC timeline (Universal Century).
In Japan, audiences were already familiar with the general premise of A Gundam Show; rather than spend any extra time re-establishing details that an already Gundam-savvy audience would know, it skipped right to explaining on how this particular series was departing from the established material. In this case, the noteworthy information was that Wing takes place in the After Colony timeline, and is set wholly in its own universe– we have a different sinister organization with a ‘Z’ in its name, a different mysterious blond man who wears a mask, a different conflict between Earth and Space, and no mention of Newtypes.
Perhaps the most significant difference between Wing and its predecessor was its tonal shift. In the original Mobile Suit Gundam (if seasoned fans will pardon my oversimplification), the good guys are a relatively wholesome bunch or reluctant civilian heroes coming together to survive, a found-family supporting each other and trying their best to protect the vulnerable. It’s just ONE Gundam, and a crew of overworked, under-supplied misfits. It’s still very much a complex narrative about the horrors of war, but like, there’s a goofy side-kick robot! Kids run around White Base causing shenanigans! The more the UC timeline progresses, the more complicated it gets, but the point is, it’s a different style of complicated. There's a relatable and familiar flavor to its protagonists and their struggles.
Pan over to Wing, where we are served right away with the spiciest plate of the spiciest feral murder boys, possibly the LEAST reluctant people ever to get in a mecha and cause harm.
Tumblr media
The protagonist pilots are remorseless teenagers who were robbed of their adolescence before the show even began, and thrown into the meatgrinder of revolutionary violence– not the most relatable bunch, and not one audience surrogate amongst them (that honor goes to Relena). None of them work together, everyone is morally ambiguous, and they’re all hyper-competent elite soldiers from the get-go. In MS Gundam, Amuro spends his first fight in the Gundam trying to learn to walk and shoot using a manual.
Some Gundam fans were quite put off by this change, but in the USA, we had no basis for comparison. Gundam Wing was the only Gundam show we had, and furthermore, it was one of the first “serious” “cartoons” introduced to mainstream television. And it blew. Our. Fucking. Minds.
--I cannot stress enough how influential that early 2000’s Toonami programming block was in introducing anime to American audiences, and by extension, American television producers and toy companies. I recommend checking out this IGN article about the history of GW’s debut on Cartoon Network, and the effect it had on the industry at large: How Gundam Wing Found Its Home On Toonami 20 Years Ago Today . For another take on the phenomenon check out: Found in Translation: How Gundam Wing Became A Global Phenomenon (Opinions are those of the article writer, not mine.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those of you who are of that Toonami-block generation who never encountered the original series: MS Gundam is truly gripping and powerful, and if you’re not already a Gundam fan but found that Wing tickled your fancy, the original line up of shows will probably be right up your alley too. Be prepared for a very different overall experience from Wing though– for one thing, you may be surprised to discover that the original series, with its earlier animation style and dated anime tropes, is absolutely fucking brutal.
Fundamentally, the original Gundam is a series that is steeped to its core in a very somber, distinctly post-war Japanese melancholy that Wing, for all its lofty philosophizing, lacks. I don’t mean to make that a criticism of Wing– it had a much, much shorter run to make its point, and it was intentionally trying to do something different from its parent series.
Gundam Wing may at one point had a reputation for being Gundam’s dark, broody, edgy cousin, but Wing is also as chaste as a Victorian romance novel, and obscures most of its violence in clean, bloodless explosions. In the first episode of MS Gundam you will be treated to first-hand mass civilian death. In the movie and at various points of the shows there are scenes deliberately and uncomfortably reminiscent of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In Zeta Gundam, you'll get to explore a wide selection of Horrible Ways To Die In Space that I suspect would have the same effect on a child as accidentally watching Watership Down (1978) thinking it was a Disney movie. (That's right: It makes you a more interesting person with good taste!) There's also like, nudity. And adults, with messy, adult relationship problems.
The U.C. timeline is just a lot more, I want to say, earthy as a rule. The characters are normal people and they have a wide range of interests and relationships to each other. Even when it’s reaching those philosophical high-notes, the focus is closer to the ground level; you see the day to day struggles of the crew, of civilians, of couples, you see their private lives, watch them evolve over the course of many years, how they fall in love, eat burgers, hook up, make friends, and make bad decisions. It’s a rich, diverse world filled with believable, complex people; the world building has more time to fill out, with its roots firmly in the soil of classic science fiction writing and space exploration; and it does what it sets out to do, which is deliver a gut-punch of an anti-war story.
If you take anything away from this, it’s that developing a tolerance for older mediums and long-term relationships with particular stories will give you access to some of the most rewarding experiences possible. And that’s true of many things, but especially of stories that have had lasting cultural impact and serve as time capsules for the struggles of their era. It’s true of The Iliad, it’s true of Lord of the Rings, it’s true of Akira, it’s true of Gundam.

“Just Make Us Five Gundams” – Wing’s Famously Troubled Production & Why You Should Read Episode Zero
Gundam Wing was created flying by the seat of its pants from start to finish.
Hideyuki Tomioka, executive producer on Wing, was still early in his career when he was cut loose on a new Gundam series with minimal oversight.
“Just make us a show with FIVE new Gundams”, Bandai said. “It’ll sell model kits!”, they said. “It’ll be fun!”, they said. And they laughed, and laughed.
But Tomioka agreed, and set out to assemble his creative team– notably, Masashi Ikeda (series director), Katsuyuki Sumisawa (series composition / head scriptwriter), and Shuko Murase (character designer). Many of his chosen production crew had never worked on a Gundam show before, but everyone knew their stuff, and had been selected for their outstanding work or for showing promise in their respective fields.
--Please, pour one out for them now.
The production schedule for Wing was apparently one of the roughest in Sunrise’s history. In a 2017 interview, producer Tomioka explains: “With Wing, we delivered the episodes to the TV network a week early. All of them. I was told by the producers at the network that there would be hell to pay if this next Gundam wasn’t delivered a week early like clockwork, and I said sure. I also told Mr. Ikeda and the company that we would maintain a one-week-before-air delivery schedule, and we delivered every single episode a week before air.”
Head scriptwriter Sumisawa recalls camping in the Sunrise studio and working all night without sleeping in order to turn in scripts on time (something I vividly recall doing with my senior thesis).
Despite the entire staff being burnt out from the continuous workflow, the team apparently met every single deadline, and still consider Gundam Wing to be some of their best work.
However, Wing’s trouble didn’t end with just the frantic schedule.
Significant, under-the-table leadership changes at the studio level made a bad situation worse. Just before the production of Wing, parent company Sunrise had sold the Gundam franchise to Bandai, apparently in secret, leaving their creatives and producers like Tomioka in a lurch. The sudden change in sponsors led to an attitude change that would filter through the company, causing significant friction and splintering within the organization.
In fact, creative control of the series was tossed in the air at multiple levels:
When series director Masashi Ikeda was hired for Wing, he was coming off a few rocky dismissals / resignations from earlier projects due to his disagreements with sponsors. He was new to Gundam, but was known for being a talented, if contentious, storyboard artist / director. Right away he took Wing in an unexpected direction, apparently derailing the series from its original trajectory after only 10 episodes. Signing off on these provocative decisions may have painted a target on his back, but it certainly made Wing stand out from its predecessors! Perhaps predictably, Ikeda either “abruptly resigned” or was fired from the project after Episode 29, and was substituted by Gundam franchise veteran, Shinji Takamatsu. Takamatsu would ultimately finish directing the remaining half of the series, though he was left uncredited.
Sumisawa too withdrew as a the lead scenario writer. He reports having to cope with curve balls thrown in the script by different writers who hadn’t run their decisions by him first, leaving him to struggle with reworking episodes at the last minute in order to accommodate the unsupervised changes.
All the crunch and chaos, the impossibly tight schedules, the directorial and creative control changing hands mid-series, led to many of the important plot points and connective tissue that had been slated for reveal at the midpoint of the series being severely truncated, or scrapped entirely.
--And this, friends, is why there are so many instances in the early episodes of Wing where characters make reference to events and concepts that simply never show up in the series– the material got cut for time, and the unexplained anecdotes were left to dangle.
This includes by far the most unfortunate omission in the series: the pilot backstories. In the postscript of “Gundam Wing: Episode Zero”, the manga prequel released seven years after the series first aired– scriptwriter Sumisawa makes this plea:
“[...] I would like to make a request of those who have read this book. I would like you to watch the entire TV series and Endless Waltz again. By so doing, I think you will be able to fully appreciate the work, Gundam Wing. This series of stories of the past was requested of me by Director Ikeda, and it was supposed to appear in the to the p20the TV series after episode 27. However, it was pigeonholed roduction schedule being the worst ever, and the fact that I withdrew ws scenarist. When I returned to the show, there was no chance to fit in the past, and we had no choice but to table it indefinitely (though we did try in episode 31, The Glass Kingdom). It was able to become a graphic novel through the kindness of the editors at Anime V Magazine and Mr. Kanbe's (artist) cooperation. As one of the co-creators, I am extremely grateful, and this has become a very emotional work.”
In one interview, Sumisawa laments: “Nobody wants to write recap episodes. Episodes 27 and 28 were recap episodes.” Producer Tomioka notes that “Everybody worked some serious miracles for part two. We never would have been able to do part two [of the series] if we hadn’t put in those recap episodes. It really was rough.”
--This Is why I recommend that people read Episode Zero around the time they get to the mid-series point in the anime, where the backstories were always meant to go. Many, MANY questions and frustrations that I hear from first-time watchers will be cleared up.
It’s a damn good collection of stories, too! As you can see, my own copy is nearing a level of decrepitude that ought to make it Nursery Real at this point. I took it everywhere with me in my school bag as a comfort item.

How would you fix the brellas, and how would you make a new brella?
A really good question and a topic I've been meaning to talk about!
First we need to identify the problems with the Brella class as a whole, and you'll find out soon enough that their problems aren't really that deep.
~
The first Brella, the Splat Brella, released on August 12th, 2017, a few weeks after the launch of Splatoon 2. But we should notice something from before they released.
In Splatoon 1 and the early weeks of Splatoon 2, shooters were strong. They've always been the most accessible and versatile weapon class and they naturally draw in players.
Shooters never really had a definitive counter in the frontline. They outranged Rollers and Brushes, they could close the gap on Blasters and capitalise on their inaccuracy and were much more accurate and forgiving to use than Sloshers. Splatoon 2 was no different in the beginning; Shooters consistent movement and damage outclasses the Dualies burst movement and damage.
So what you end up seeing in this time period was all these weapon classes ended up having different matchups with eachother, but Shooters were the best and had enough tools to deal with everything else, the 'apex predator' in this ecosystem.
And then the Splat Brella released and it shifted the ecosystem. Brellas, at their peak, were weapons that Shooters could not handle on their own, but Dualies and Blasters etc., could handle Brellas. This shifted the meta and created a really nice sort of weapon triangle.
Shooters get beat by Brellas, Brellas got beat by everything else, and everything else got beat by Shooters. Suddenly there was no one answer to everything and every weapon had a place in the meta. To continue the ecosystem analogy, Brellas were the keystone species of the Splatoon 2 meta. If they were taken out of the equation, Shooters run wild.
Now we know what happened in Splatoon 2's meta. Shooters got buffed, again and again and again. And Brellas got nerfed, again and again and again. Every update Shooters got slightly better at dealing with Brellas and they slowly got pushed out of the meta. Which brings us to today, in Splatoon 3 where Brellas are still completely pushed out of the meta.
Another thing to note is the kits that weapons are given. A kit can make or break a weapon. For example, the Splash-o-Matic. Even if the Splash, the Burst Bomb AND the Crab Tank all receive heavy nerfs, the Splash-o-Matic won't be irrelevant simply because the kit synergises well with eachother. A thousand people have already explained why this kit synergises so well so I won't go over it here.
On the other hand, Brellas don't get good kits. Undercover Brellas kit is objectively awful. Splat Brellas kit is held up purely by Triple Inkstrike being strong, but they don't synergise with eachother. For what its worth, Tenta Brellas kit is good, its just hit the hardest by my final point.
Brellas are buggy. The past 6 months of patch notes have not begun to scratch the surface of how buggy Brellas are. I could go on forever but I won't. The most important thing to know is that bugs cause inconsistency, and even if a weapon has objectively good stats, being inconsistent will make it feel bad to play.
In summary:
Shooters were overbuffed.
Brellas were overnerfed.
Brellas have worse kits on average.
Brellas are buggy.
There really isn't an inspired solution for the problem of Brellas being bad. Sometimes you just need to analyse why something is the way it is and the solution appears in front of you; balance the game without giving bias towards certain weapon classes, give worse weapons better kits and fix bugs.
New main weapons?
Now that this is out of the way, lets talk about new main weapons, along with a short analysis on how main weapons are decided.
Every weapon class has its hallmark, standard weapon. The Shooters have the Splattershot, the Chargers have the Splat Charger, and the Rollers have the Splat Roller. These weapons don't tend to do anything special, but they're consistent and they showcase the class as a whole. Once you see a Splat Roller in action, you have a general idea for what the Roller class is like.
Then these standard weapons get expanded upon with a lightweight weapon (faster, more efficient, less range, less damage) and a heavyweight weapon (slower, less efficient, more range, more damage), that are simply variations. They don't really change the mechanics; The Splattershot Jr. and Splattershot Pro work identically to the Splattershot, they're just light and heavy variations.
These 3 weapons build the core of a class, and the next main weapons in a class change and expand upon mechanics drastically to provide a more unique experience. The Squiffer, Splat Charger and E-Liter 4K are all similar weapons functionally, but the Bamboozler, Goo Tuber and Snipewriter are much more varied.
Looking at the Brella class, we have a standard weapon (the Splat Brella) and a heavyweight (the Tenta Brella). We don't actually have a lightweight Brella. The Undercover Brella isn't a simple variation of the standard Brellas, it has unique mechanics. It can shoot while flaring up its shield, and is the only Brella that can regenerate its shield early (by splatting or assisting a splat on an opponent).
So we need a lightweight Brella, and I'm also thinking we need another unique Brella, and luckily I have ideas for both!
Parasella:
This is a lightweight Brella! Unlike other lightweight weapons, it doesn't have much less range than the Splat Brella, it instead has a little less damage, far less shot spread and more damage fall off, forcing you to be more accurate for longer periods of time.
What sets it apart is the Brella itself. 0.5 seconds after holding down ZR, the Brella will shoot off and move fast and far. Of course it doesn't have a lot of health, only 200, and enemies can take care of it easily. (this is identical to the Undercover Brellas current health, but ideally, every other Brella would be getting health buffs) Finally, the Brella shield would regenerate after 2.5 seconds, allowing you to deploy multiple Brella shields at once on the field.
I imagine a supportive kit for this weapon, something like Autobomb/Killer Wail 5.1 or Fizzy Bomb/Zipcaster with a similar playstyle to the Custom Splattershot Jr. It would bombard enemies with deployables and chip damage and go in for the kill once they're distracted.
Octogami Brella:
The Undercover Brella adds new mechanics to the Brella class, namely shooting while shielding and regenerating your shield. I want to create a Brella that expands on a mechanic, contact damage. Brella shields deal contact damage, but it isn't a main part of the Brella playstyle.
The Octogami Brella has a large square shield, made out of paper. Holding down ZR after shooting causes the shield to start to fold up into the shape of an Octoling! It decreases in size, but due to it compacting, the health of the shield dramatically increases! The shield deploys after 2 seconds and it moves very quickly and has a large hitbox, forcing enemies to move out of the way or take serious damage. Finally, if enemies don't destroy the Octoling shield fast enough, it'll explode once it decays.
I don't really have stats for this weapon in particular, just a strong concept behind it, so feel free to suggest anything you like for it!
As always, thanks for reading everyone!
