Last @lonestar-s5countdown Beginnings and Endings Week Post
I have a new work schedule now! And Lone Star is ending with season 5 real soon! That’s been fun getting used to… (/s) so I’ll post my fanfic/ music recs as one post tomorrow. Let’s see how much I can post w/o this becoming a complete image-less wall of stream-of-consciousness… but it will still be inevitable to everyone in the LS fandom who follows my handle and welcomed me. And if I haven’t said it yet, or enough, or sincerely in the last almost-year, thank you. Just thank you for your niceness, all your everything you’ve expressed, letting me be part of the fan group! I really really hope the end of the show doesn’t mean the end of this community, but whatever happens, it’s been a hella exhilarating, emotional, and lively experience.
Tumblr media
(1) Which 911 Lone Star season premier is your favorite?
It’s a draw between seasons 2 and 4– I like the season premieres of 1 and 3 as much as everyone but holy hell I was not ready for the emotional twists in them to hit me the way they did. I am still in emotional recovery in both the good and bad ways. Both 2 and 4, until their respective cliffhangers, were quite light-hearted and self-contained with hints at the storylines to come, and those were easier for me to enjoy. Plus, Tommy, Gwyn and Iris (re-debut, in Iris’ case) had some colorful debuts! (I will always wish that Owen and Gwyn’s characters had a little more time together outside of the wit/ playfulness/ vitriol, and a couple more scenes with TK without their son always needing to be middle-man. But Rob, Lisa and Ronen played off of each other so well!) Gina’s portrayal of Tommy was just magnetically charismatic even without Michelle there— ‘Nuff said. And while I had issues with Iris’ bluntness (especially since it sorta re-opened some of TK’s emotional wounds), I could relate to being on both sides of a conversation in a similar situation to her— seeming hard to read/ confusing to most everyone around her (sometimes even with trusted family/ friends), and being confused/ offended by the delivery of what we convey.
(2) Which character do you think had the best introduction or first scene in the show?
I’m gonna say… it’s a toss-up between Judd and Grace for their natural first integration into the story and the first successful show>tell moment about them (specially Judd) in the series, Marjan (social media firefighter Muslim badass, in a description), and Mateo (for his own intro as unassuming but more than capable— Julian nails the portrayal of this character archetype in LS and The Long Game). Confusingly honorable mention goes to Michelle in hindsight, though? To me, she’s okay as a character, but I do understand where some fans were put off by her personality/ Liv’s portrayal.
(3) What is your favorite moment of 1x01?
Judd officially starting his end of the friendship with Owen by strong-arming him into accepting a chocolate chip cookie— you try saying no to a big Texan guy played by Jim Parrack and a mom and daughter holding a platter of chocolate chip cookies. Really, it’s tricky and you will probably get on their respective neutral if not shit lists. And Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” was quite a bop to end on! (Though, how did people find that wild? Just a little confused.)
(4) How did you first start watching Lone Star and how did you find out about it?
My aunt showed my mom and me the first parts of season 3– I saw… looking back on it, I’m a bit fuzzy on details but sometime in 2022 (def not consecutive days tho), I think I saw part of 3x04, then 3x07, and all of 3x08. And that last episode made me sob, I’m not ashamed to admit it now or in my grief week post. (My mom, grandma, uncle and aunt were watching it with me at dinner and were very confused about why I was crying.) Then I saw the last 3 eps, and it got me curious/hooked, so I went into season 4 kinda blind. Then I downloaded Hulu to catch up on the series proper, and the rest is rewatch history.
(5) What is one wish you have for the season 5 premiere?
Mostly that the overall narratives don’t feel too rushed or forced should there be a timeskip? I hate that Fox couldn’t get the show renewed… but on a lighter note? I’d like a solid explanation/ in-character reason for Grace’s absence that IS NOT a character death, a breakup, or anything relating to misblaming Wyatt.
Open tag to everyone as well!

this is just a lot of rambling, so bear with me for a second. i only got into the social media side of st after s4 when i couldn’t wait to get more of the story, and byler was one of the first ships i ever got into because i was getting edits and theories left-and-right. there were people that had byler theories for every single little thing, including stuff like lighting, the use of color, metaphors, analogies, etc to show how it was going to be cannon, but i took it all with a grain of salt because no matter how much i wanted gay representation (without the kill the gays trope) in one of the biggest shows in the world, the creators are still mostly middle aged white men.
BUT,,,, i recently rewatched s3 and things don’t add up. mike was so adamant about his feelings for el. he said he loved her to the whole extended party, and spend the entire summer trying to tell her that he loved her through his usual rambling, but it took will’s “not possible” to realize will was the only one who wasn’t willing to grow away from their party, even if they were going to be a thousand miles apart. when el finally said i love you back (even if mike never told her that directly btw), he looked confused and shocked—not the catharsis you would expect from someone whose partner finally said the Big Three Words.
there is a part in hopper’s letter to el that talks about not wanting to move on, and the scene focuses only on mike, looking back to the empty byer’s house on his bike. he goes back to his own house and hugs his mom (like he did after the quarry incident) looking just as lost and confused as he did when el kisses him goodbye. then he spends a hundred-and-something days giving will the cold shoulder??? like, why??? it’s not like mike to NOT be glue-trapped to the rest of the party. at this point, he still hasn’t said i love you to el. he can’t even say it when el brings it up directly, and he deflects by asking her what she the hell she was talking about. it might be chalked up to his family ties and how the wheelers don’t seem the type to show affection naturally, but i also think it could be a little bit of his aversion to lying to people he cares about. mike genuinely cares about el, but it’s a little bit like idol-worship, like this ideal in his head of superman el needing her own lois lane.
will is different because, to mike, he isn’t superman. he puts mike on the helm of the ship as the heart of the party. he looks up to him. he believes be understands him and he genuinely needs him. he believes he is smart, strategic and funny. he’s his best friend. so mike has the option to take on this responsibility, or to conform to what everyone around believes he will do—love el and be in love with her like a good boyfriend would be.
the only time mike genuinely smiles around el in s4 is when he gets the chance to help and save her from the whole owens-brenner lab thing. so it’s kind of obvious which choice he prefers. mike wheeler seems like the type of person that desperately wants to be needed because he hates it when people treat him like a good-for-nothing kid (his parents, steve, hopper etc). he even tells will that he’s scared of not being needed in the van scene, and will shuts him down by telling him about his role in the party. he spends all this time missing will (he goes back to dnd), and then when he finally sees him again, he pulls back because he doesn’t want to miss him. he doesn’t want to lie to him by not telling him how much he missed him. in s5, i really hope that the writers realize it makes the most sense plot-wise and theme-wise to get them together, but that’s a whole another theory and lots of people have discoursed about it before me.
anyways, i know no one really cares because i’m just one of many, but i wanted to let it out that now i’m fully convinced that mike wheeler is canonically a little fruity. let the delusions commence!

MASTERLIST
“Charlie!” you call. Your voice echoes through your apartment. “Can you come here for a second?”
You need help zipping your dress. Charlie was the first to get to your apartment. He’s been waiting for Owen, Madison, Jeremy, Jadah, and Savannah, and Sacha to get here so your group can go to the release party together. It’s a formal event so you had to wear a dress and heels. It wasn’t your first choice, especially the heels part.
Charlie appears in the doorway and says, “Yea- woah.” You see him in your mirror. His eyes are on you. He looks good in his suit that he’s wearing. His jacket and pants are black, his button-up beneath the jacket is white, but he wears a silver tie to compliment the color of your pale pink dress since he can’t match your dress.
A smile forms on your lips and you ask, “Can you come zip up my dress, please?” Charlie nods and walks into your bedroom. You watch him as he slowly zips up your dress.
The dress is a long, baby pink dress with satin fabric. The skirt is a little poofy from the waist down. The top hugs your chest, pushing your breasts up a little bit so they look a little bigger than they actually are. A sparkly silver belt sits on your waist to add some sparkle to the dress. The sleeves are off your shoulders, and there are hidden pockets in the skirt.
Your boyfriend admires you in the mirror. You’re fully dressed now. Your hair is loosely curled and you have a natural makeup look painted on your face. The light color of the dress compliments your tan skin.
“You look stunning, mon amour,” Charlie sighs. “Absolutely stunning.”
You lean your head back a bit, resting it against Charlie’s shoulder. “You clean up very nicely, Charlie,” you say. “I like that you matched me without actually matching me.”
He laughs and says, “I might’ve had Mads and Jadah help me with that little detail. I wanted to match you but it would draw suspicion to us.”
When you and Charlie started dating almost nine months ago, both of you agreed to keep it on the very low. No social media posts unless hanging out in a group setting, no tagging each other in stories if you were alone together, and only going as far as following each other on social media since you’ve worked on the same show together. The fans don’t even know that you’re friends with each other at this point. Only your closest friends that are going with you to the event tonight know that you and Charlie are together.
Kenny Ortega also knows since he’s technically your boss and you’re both co-workers. He also might have found you making out with Charlie after the two of you got carried away when cuddling on Julie’s bed after a few hours of shooting scenes. You couldn’t lie to him after that.
Tonight is a very public event. Pictures will be taken, journalists will be wanting every juicy detail, and fans have been invited to the event so if there’s even a little be of suspicion, it won’t take very long to go public. It’s the release night party for Julie and the Phantoms season two. Everyone’s been invited to watch the first few episodes of the new season.
You feel Charlie kiss your bare shoulder and you giggle softly. “I’m sure everyone will be getting here soon so we should go wait out in the living room,” you tell your boyfriend.
“I wish I was able to touch you tonight,” he says. “It’s your big Netflix debut, Y/N. I wish I was able to hug you and show you how proud I am of you.”
A little sigh leaves your body and you say, “You can hug me. I’m sure a friendly hug won’t hurt, as long as you hug other people too. As for showing me that you’re proud of me, you can do that later when we’re alone.” You send him a playful wink so he gets what you mean.
Charlie’s jaw drops and he blinks at you. “I-you, um,” your boyfriend stammers. “Okay, yeah. I’m going to show you just how proud I am of you later, baby.”
You turn and face Charlie. “I look forward to it, Charlie,” you tell him, leaning up. He smiles and lightly pecks your lips.
Someone knocks on the door and you click out of the room in your silver heels to answer the door. Owen and Jeremy stand at the door. Jer’s wife, Carolynn, stands beside him.
“Hi, Y/N,” Owen greets you. “You look very pretty. I saw Charlie’s car in the parking garage so where is that loser?”
You laugh and say, “Probably still in my bedroom. Go get him. I think I shocked him or something with my words.” Owen pushes past you. Jeremy follows him, leaving you and Carolynn alone.
Carolynn smiles and says, “I love that color on you, Y/N. It suits you.”
“Thank you,” you say, shooting her a little smile. You’ve grown close to Carolynn since she’s married to Jeremy and you’ve spent a lot of time hanging out with the guys in a group.
You let Carolynn walk in before closing the door behind her. Faintly, you hear Owen say, “Bro, what’s going on with you? Your face is red.”
Charlie responds with, “I am so having sex tonight, dude.”
Both you and Carolynn laugh in the living room as Carolynn asks, “I don’t want to know what that’s about, do I?”
As you sit, you say, “Charlie said he wishes he could touch me tonight at the party so he could show me how proud he was of me. I told him he can show me how proud he is of me later when we’re alone.”
Carolynn says, “Ah, okay. That makes sense. Congratulations, by the way. Making your big Netflix debut tonight. How’s it feel?”
“I’m excited, but very nervous,” you admit. “The first season did so well and won so many awards that I’m scared that I’m going to come in and ruin the whole show and that people won’t like my character.”
She says, “You play the nice daughter of the villain of the show. Everyone will probably love you when they realize that your character wants to help the Phantoms instead of siding with Caleb. Don’t tell Jer and the guys but I think you have one of the best songs of the season so I think the fans will definitely love that.”
You smile as there is another knock on the door. Charlie, Owen, and Jeremy come into the living room as you answer the door.
Savannah stands in the doorway with Mads, Sacha, and Jadah. “I had to pick up the kiddos,” Sav says. “Ooh, Y/N. You look beautiful.”
“Thank you,” you say, smiling. “We’re just waiting for the limo to get here. I think we have a half hour or so before it gets here.”
Kenny is sending a limo to your apartment for the nine of you. When you decided to go as a group so you and Charlie could go together, Kenny pitched in and helped like the wonderful human being he is.
Owen decides to go live with Jeremy on his Instagram account for a few minutes. Carolynn talks with Savannah, Sacha, and Jadah while you find yourself talking with Charlie and Madison.
Mads says, “Kenny is giving us the opportunity to sing on stage together tonight. He told me that we can pick whatever song from either season. He thinks the fans would want to hear Perfect Harmony or Stand Tall since those were massive after season one dropped.”
Charlie nods and says, “Stand Tall would be good since all of us can get in on that number. I can talk to Jeremy and Owen about it when they get off live.”
You smile at the two of them and say, “That’s exciting. The fans will be so excited for this little surprise.”
“We can thank Kenny when it goes really well,” Mads says with a laugh. “He’s always got these great ideas. I don’t know how he comes up with them.”
Both you and Charlie laugh as your phone rings. You answer it, speaking to the limo driver. After a moment, you hang up the phone and announce, “Limo is here. Let’s head on out.”
Everyone gets their things together, Owen gets off Instagram live, and you all head down two floors to pile into the limo.
The drive from your apartment to the Laglyan Complex on North Vine Street is close to forty minutes. It was close to six when you left and it’s almost seven when you arrive to the venue for tonight’s event.
There is a red carpet laid out across the front of the building to the door. There is a lot of press here and a lot of cameras flashing. Cheyenne Jackson and Booboo Stewart are together on the carpet. You spot Kenny with one of the assistant directors.
When the press spots the limo, they begin to mumble to each other as they try to figure out who is in the car. Owen and Jeremy get out first. The press begin to snap pictures of the guys. Madison gets out with Jadah. Carolynn, Sacha, and Savannah. Sacha pairs up with Savannah while Mads, Jadah and Carolynn walk the carpet together until Carolynn finds her way to her husband.
Charlie helps you out of the car. The journalists call Charlie’s name as you close the door behind you. “Go,” you order him. “I’ll be okay. You’re the star of the show.” He smiles and sends you a wink since his back is turned toward the cameras. He walks off and your eyes follow him. Cheyenne walks over.
“Look at you, Y/N,” he says. “You look wonderful.”
You smile and say, “Thank you, Cheyenne. You look nice tonight. I love the suit.” He wears a shirt similar to his Julie and the Phantoms character, Caleb Covington. You play his daughter on the show.
Cheyenne holds his arm out for you and you hook your elbow with his. The cameras snap away at you and Cheyenne since the two of you play a father-daughter duo. Booboo comes and joins you and Cheyenne as the ‘Hollywood Ghost Club Crew’, as Booboo dubbed the three of you. The band is getting pictures together. Savannah, Sacha, and Jadah are getting their pictures taken together. Carolynn is getting her pictures done.
The journalists call out questions to the cast. They ask Madi which season was her favorite, which she replies with, “Y’all really going to make me choose? I can’t do that.”
Owen is asked whether or not we’ll get a Willex kiss in the future, which Owen replies with, “We’ll just have to see, won’t we?”
All the journalists laugh. One of them calls out, “Y/N, what was it like joining a show that already had a pretty large fan base and a successful first season?”
“It was nerve wracking at first,” you admit. “But the cast welcomed me with open arms and I’ve made some very, very close friends.” You shoot a smile to the cameras.
A second journalist calls out to everyone, “Are there any secret romances on set that no one knows about?”
Most of the cast, including you and Charlie, laughs. Owen answers with, “Now it wouldn’t be a secret if we told everyone. But no, there aren’t any secret romances. That I know of at least.”
After a few more pictures and questions, we all head inside. The main room as a bunch of tables set up and a little stage with Madi’s piano, Charlie’s guitars, Jeremy’s bass, and Owen’s drums. There are a few fans that were exclusively invited that are scattered around. They start getting excited when they see you walk in with everyone.
You find your table. You’re sitting with Owen, Charlie, Jeremy, Carolynn, Cheyenne, Booboo, and Savannah. This is the “adult” table, you guess. Mads, Jadah, and Sacha sit with Kenny and a few of the younger cast members at another table.
You’re sitting between Charlie and Owen. Someone needs to sit between them or they’ll be at each other all night. That’s your argument if someone is suspicious of you and Charlie.
Suddenly, you feel someone’s fingers lace with yours under the cloth that’s on the table. You glance over at Charlie and he has a little smile on his face as he talks with Jeremy. You turn and say to Owen softly, “Did Charlie really say that he’s having sex tonight?”
Owen laughs a bit and nods. “He thinks he is anyway,” the blond says. “Is he?”
“If he can behave himself then yes,” you say. Owen chuckles.
You feel Charlie squeeze your hand. You know he heard so you smile.
After small conversation with everyone at the table, you get up and get a drink. You walk to the bar, asking for a martini. While you wait, you’re approached by a guy dressed in a nice button-up shirt and dress pants. His hair is in a neat bun behind his head. “Hi,” he says. “I’m Austin.”
“Y/N,” you say.
“I couldn’t notice you came over here alone,” he says.
The bartender gives you your drink and you say, “I just came over to grab a drink. I was going to go back to my table after I grabbed it.”
Austin pulls out his wallet and hands the bartender a twenty dollar bill. “Let me at least pay for it,” he says.
You smile a bit and say, “Thank you. I must be headed back to the table with my friends now. I appreciate the drink, though.”
He blocks your way and you look up at him. “How about a dance in return for the drink?” Austin suggests.
Feeling more and more uncomfortable, you say, “Maybe later. I need to get back to my friends.”
Austin asks, “What’s the rush? It’s not like you have a boyfriend or anything. I follow your social media accounts and you never post a guy.”
You begin to say, “Actually, I-” before Charlie walks up. You let out a soft sigh of relief.
“Everything okay here?” Charlie asks. “You were taking a while to come get a drink so I thought that I’d come check.”
The stranger says, “All good here. I was just offering Y/N a dance here since I paid for her drink.”
Charlie looks down at you and blinks before you say, “I didn’t ask him to pay for it. He took out a twenty and offered.” Austin looks between you and your secret boyfriend.
Then Charlie says, “If you offered yourself then Y/N isn’t obligated to dance with you just because you paid for her drink.”
Austin says, “Well, I’ll just ask again later.” The man walks away and you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Your boyfriend moves and stands in front of you. He asks, “Are you okay?”
You nod and say, “Yeah, thank you. It was just uncomfortable. I didn’t know how to get out of it.”
Charlie reaches up to cup your face in his hands but he stops before he can touch your face. You look up at him before you lean forward, putting your face in Charlie’s hands. Your eyes flutter closed and you smile.
“Y/N,” Charlie says. “People are looking.”
With a sigh, you say, “I just need you to touch me, Charlie. I want you.”
He runs his thumbs over your cheekbones and you can hear pictures being taken. You put your drink on the bar counter and step closer to Charlie.
Your eyes open and you find Charlie looking down at you. He says, “You know what this means for us, right?”
You nod and say, “Our on-the-low relationship isn’t as on the low now. I don’t mind that anymore because I’m tired of guys coming up and trying to flirt with me while I have a boyfriend.”
Charlie chuckles a bit as he says, “I hope that means I can kiss you now. It’s all I’ve wanted to do tonight.”
“Yeah,” you sigh.
With no hesitation, Charlie leans down and crashes his lips to yours. You press your body against his, grabbing his jacket and holding him close to you. You kiss Charlie back just as hard as he kissed you. Your eyes are closed again but you can see flashes behind your eyes. You pull back from the kiss and stare up at Charlie.
Both of you smile at each other as Charlie says, “You better be ready for what happens after this.”
You push Charlie’s hair away form his face and say, “What happens after this is you get on that stage tonight, you kill it, we go back to your place because it’s closer, and you get all the sex you want.”
Charlie’s face turns a little red and he says, “I will never get used to you saying something sexual to me. I hope you know that.”
“You better, Mr. Gillespie,” you tell him. “I’m not the innocent girl that you met a year and a half ago.”
He laughs and says, “Trust me. I know you’re not the innocent girl that I met last year. You’ve proven that several times at this point.”
With a smile on your face, you take Charlie’s hand in yours before grabbing your drink and walking back to the table with your friends. When you get back to the table, you scoot closer to Charlie and rest your head on his shoulder. Owen looks over and says, “Woah, being affectionate in public. This isn’t the best idea.”
You say, “It’s okay, Owen. Everything is okay.”
Owen looks confused as you look up at Charlie. Charlie looks at his best friend and says, “I kissed her. At the the bar when I went to check on her. Cameras saw so that’s going to be a huge thing in the morning.”
Jeremy says, “Well, congratulations on making your relationship public, I guess.”
The table laughs. Owen looks at you, Charlie, Jeremy, and Carolynn before he says, “I need a relationship. I feel so single right now.”
Charlie says, “You’d actually have to talk to people to get a girlfriend, Owen.”
“Haha,” Owen says, sticking his tongue out at Charlie. You laugh.
***
At nine, Madi, Charlie, Owen, and Jeremy all leave to get ready. They decided on Stand Tall for the number they’re going to perform. It’s almost 9:30 when Kenny gets on the mic on stage. “Hello, everyone,” he says. “Today, Netflix released season two of Julie and the Phantoms. To celebrate, I offered our band the chance to perform a song of their choice. So, let’s all welcome Madison Reyes, Charlie Gillespie, Jeremy Shada, and Owen Patrick Joyner to the stage for their performance of whatever song they chose.”
The crowd cheers as everyone walks onto the stage, taking their place. You and Carolynn get a front row seat while you both watch your guys perform. You notice Charlie took off his jacket and his tie. He also cut off the sleeves, but that doesn’t surprise you. The top few buttons of his white button-up are unbuttoned, showing off his chest a bit.
Mads begins to play the first few keys to the song.
Don't blink No, I don't want to miss it One thing, and it’s back to the beginning Cause everything is rushing in fast Keep going on, never look back
You smile and watch Madi sing. She’s insanely talented and you’re so glad that the world was able to hear her voice.
The guys nod their heads to the beat while they wait for their signal to begin playing. Once they get their cues, they begin to play one by one.
Right now, I'm loving every minute Hands down, can't let myself forgеt it, no Cause everything is rushing in fast Keep holding on, nеver look back
Charlie plays like he’s flickering on and off stage like he does on the show. You smile and admire your boyfriend. You know how talented he is, especially those fingers of his, but he never ceases to amaze you how talented he is.
And it’s one, two, three, four times That I'll try for one more night Light a fire in my eyes I'm going out of my mind
You smile wide when Charlie sings his line at the end of the pre-chorus. Then he begins to sing his part of the song and you dance with Carolynn. The crowd sings and dances behind you two.
The four of them finish the song and smile. The crowd cheers and you smile, looking at Charlie. He has the biggest smile on his face, which is covered in a layer of sweat. His hair is damp with sweat too. Charlie bows with his closest friends before putting his guitar on the stand. He jumps off the stage and comes over to you.
“I told you that you’d kill it,” you tell him when he gets to you.
Charlie laughs and says, “Oh, hush.” He pulls you into a soft kiss. You smile and kiss him back, making your relationship with him completely public. The people around you cheer a bit as Charlie pulls away.
You look up at him and say, “You’re going to have so much fun being able to hugs me and kiss me in public now, aren’t you?”
He smiles and stares down at you. Charlie says, “Maybe I’ll be having too much fun now.”
As you brush some of the hair away from Charlie’s eyes, you say, “Please try to keep the PDA to a minimum, Charlie. You do have a lot of younger fans. Save most of it for when we’re alone.”
“Like how we will be tonight?” Charlie asks, eyes hopeful.
You laugh and say, “Just like how we will be tonight.” Then an idea pops into your idea. “This dress is getting really hot. I might need to take it off soon.”
Charlie gets what you’re trying to say so he replies with, “Let’s go.”
He takes your hand and hops over the barricade. You smile as he leads you through the crowd of people. Charlie calls you an Uber so you can both go back to his place tonight.

Starsky and Hutch’s Girlfriends (and Their Hair Color)
[PBS announcer voice] This post is brought to you by the time I was reading The Ollie Report for Bounty Hunter and came across the memorable line: “Again, Starsky is drawn to the dark-haired girl, Hutch to the blonde. Exogamists they are not.”
These are the two ladies in question, respectively:
Tumblr media
I thought of this quote a lot as I continued watching the show, because it was quite often relevant. But then I got to Starsky’s Lady, and suddenly Hutch’s date wasn’t a blonde! I began to wonder about the quote, and the truth of the sentiment behind it (which is by no means specific to that one blog). Did Hutch really tend to go for the blondes, and Starsky for the dark-haired women?
So like any sane person, I decided to spend a billion hours of my life making a long-ass photo-heavy meta post that hopefully someone will care about. If anyone actually finds this information interesting or useful I will be happy, buuut I guess if nothing else it gives us an excuse to look at a bunch of pretty ladies.
How did I decided who’s here: I started with the list of women from the Canon Compendium’s Girlfriends and Dates page, added anyone whom I felt the boys made a “concerted effort” to flirt with, and then threw out a few people I didn’t think belonged. I tried my hardest to be objective, but making this list was by no means an exact science and several times it really just boiled down to “do I personally believe she should be on here” so like people will have different opinions on that and it’s fine! Spice of life or whatever.
As for the actual contents of the list: I will state each woman’s name and the episode she’s in. (If she doesn’t have a name she’s listed as Jane Doe. This is a cop show, after all.) I will state her hair color-- for Reasons and also My Sanity the only options are “blonde” or “darkhaired” (not blonde), but hair color is fucking weird and sometimes it was a guess so feel free to think otherwise. I will also state the reason that she’s here, aka the nature of her relationship with Hutch or Starsky (or both)-- so spoiler warning for pretty much everything, I guess.
Also fair warning that sometimes I was too lazy to get a good picture, or it was just actually impossible (newsflash: discos have bad lighting). Rip to any women I may have made look bad, you’re all beautiful queens and I love you.
Pre-Show
Tumblr media
Vanessa (Hutchinson Murder One)- Darkhaired. Hutch’s late ex-wife and all-around terrible person.
Laura Kanen (Deckwatch)- Blonde. Hutch’s ex-girlfriend.
Helen Davidson (Lady Blue)- Blonde. Starsky’s late ex-girlfriend.
Kathy Marshall (Fatal Charm)- Darkhaired. A stewardess friend of theirs; it’s never said she’s an ex BUT she kisses Hutch square on the mouth in greeting and is Starsky’s date for dinner/disco. And she dances with both of them. Good enough for me!
Season 1
Hutch
Tumblr media
Jeannie Walton (The Fix)- Blonde. His girlfriend at the start of the episode but not by the end! (Rip king)
Molly (Pariah)- Darkhaired. Stewardess friend/one-night stand? Something like that. Also his date at the end.
Jane Doe (Deadly Imposter)- Blonde. His date at the party.
Abigail Crabtree (Deadly Imposter to Vendetta)- Blonde. The only girlfriend we see in several episodes!! (The only girlfriend that lasts several episodes, whoops.)
Starsky
Tumblr media
Jane Doe (Pariah)- Blonde. His date at the end.
Jane Doe (Deadly Imposter)- Darkhaired. His date at the party.
Amy (The Hostages)- Darkhaired. She works at a café that he’s going to for a second time, to let her know he’s ~available.
Sharman Crane (Running)- Darkhaired. They had a semester of woodshop together in junior high and then they kind of fall in love while he’s helping her dry out.
Season 2
Hutch
Tumblr media
Abby (Deadly Imposter to Vendetta)- Still blonde. Miraculously still his girlfriend. (Until she isn’t.)
Gillian Ingram (Gillian)- Blonde. His now-late girlfriend who fucking deserved better.
Jane Doe (Gillian)- Blonde. Lady at the bowling alley that Starsky discreetly tries to set him up with.
Christine (Starsky’s Lady)- Darkhaired. His date of the episode.
Starsky
Tumblr media
Vicky (The Las Vegas Strangler)- Darkhaired. They don’t really get a chance to go on an official date but they kiss a bunch and he’s really sweet on her and it’s cute.
Andrea (Vendetta)- Darkhaired. His picnic date.
Nancy Rogers (Gillian)- Darkhaired. His bowling date.
Terry Roberts (Starsky’s Lady)- Darkhaired. His now-late girlfriend who, like Gillian, also fucking deserved better.
Laura Stevens (The Velvet Jungle)- Blonde. They’re on a date at the end, but it should also be noted they meet when she accidentally knocks him into a dumpster. You know, like the start of any good romance.
Sharon Freemont (Starsky and Hutch Are Guilty)- Blonde. His evil lawyer girlfriend. (Not that he knows she’s evil.)
Both
Tumblr media
Jane and Bobette (The Vampire)- Jane is the blonde on the right, Bobette is the darker blonde on the left. Starsky and Hutch mix up their names so it’s hard to tell which girl they actually like better, and also they’re twins so like does it even really matter?
Officer Sally Hagen (The Specialist)- Darkhaired. Starsky kisses up her arm in her first scene (someone please file a workplace harassment suit against him), and then at the end he and Hutch keep wrapping their arms around her waist. But she does get to flip both of them over her shoulder, so it kinda evens out.
Season 3
Hutch
Tumblr media
Dianna Harmon (Fatal Charm)- Darkhaired. His possessive, violent nurse girlfriend. (You can really pick ‘em, Hutchinson.)
Dr. Judith Kaufman (The Plague)- Darkhaired. He tries so hard, but twas not meant to be.
Molly Bristol (The Collector)- Darkhaired. His girlfriend du jour.
Anna Akhanatova (A Body Worth Guarding)- Blonde. He’s technically her bodyguard and then they spend like two whole days making out. Good for them.
Mary (Class in Crime)- Blonde. His fishing date.
Starsky
Tumblr media
Jane Doe (Murder on Playboy Island)- Darkhaired. Undercover agent he flirts with at the bar.
Rosey Malone (I Love You Rosey Malone)- Blonde. The entire plot revolves around him falling in love with her and it really doesn’t end well.
Jane Doe (The Collector)- Darkhaired. His date at their late-night deli party. (Bonus Starsky in the picture, hi Starsky!)
Sharon Carstairs (The Heavyweight)- Blonde. Their canoodling on his couch gets interrupted by Important Case Matters, and she winds up getting re-engaged to her ex-fiancé (ex-ex-fiancé?). Rip to a king.
Rachel (Class in Crime)- Darkhaired. His fishing date.
Caitlin (Class in Crime)- Her hair almost has a red tint but it’s otherwise undefinable. Car saleslady/one-night stand.
K.C. McBride (Quadromania)- Blonde. They have a nice taxi date (although he’s been sleep deprived all episode, poor boy, and falls asleep).
Both
Tumblr media
Christine Phelps (The Heroes)- Blonde. She makes them lose all their braincells, it’s painful to witness. This episode hopes you will forget the actress was Gillian last season.
Julie McDermott (The Action)- Blonde. Starsky wins the kerfuffle for her but Hutch definitely makes a good go of it.
Lisa Kendricks (Foxy Lady)- Blonde. They drool and fight over her for half an episode like they did with Christine and it’s embarrassing.
Season 4
Hutch
Tumblr media
Paula (Photo Finish)- Darkhaired. He’s like her date at the party, and also the end.
Kate Larrabee (Cover Girl)- Darkhaired. An old friend of his. It starts out just as a comfort thing but they quickly become very friendly.
Marlene (Starsky’s Brother)- Darkhaired. Starsky steals her from Nicky as a Big Brother Power Move but Hutch winds up with her at the bar.
Marianne Owens (Ballad for a Blue Lady)- Darkhaired. I don’t really know what’s going on here but there’s Something (and there’s a lot of parallels with Rosey Malone, so).
Starsky
Tumblr media
Sergeant Lizzie Thorpe (Discomania)- Blonde. Technically Hutch talks with her more, but Starsky does most of the flirting.
Jane Doe (Discomania)- Darkhaired. He spends literally five minutes dancing with her. Is it relevant to the case? No. Does he care? Also no.
Emily Harrison (Blindfold)- Darkhaired. He accidentally blinds her during a case so he starts hanging out with her out of guilt but I feel like he also kinda falls in love; they kiss at one point anyway.
Marcie Fletcher (Photo Finish)- Blonde. His photographer girlfriend.
Officer Dee O’Reilly (Strange Justice)- Blonde. His meter maid girlfriend. They have a date at the end!
Jane Doe (Dandruff)- Darkhaired. He’s making out with her at the beginning.
Detective Joan Meredith (Black and Blue)- Darkhaired. It’s Heavily implied they slept together. (Side note love u Meredith!)
Melinda Rogers (The Groupie)- Blonde. He has a date with her at the end. (Yeah she slept with Hutch, but he was undercover and proceeds to lowkey rebuff her in the tag, so I’m not counting it.)
Katie (Starsky’s Brother)- Blonde. His date at the nightclub.
Both
Tumblr media
Allison May/Laura Anderson (Targets Without a Badge parts 2 & 3)- Darkhaired. They both try to court her before Starsky realizes she’s his childhood friend (although they do make another go of it in the tag).
Kira (Starsky vs Hutch)- Blonde. Starsky’s girlfriend, although she says she’s also in love with Hutch so then they sleep together which Starsky is NOT thrilled about and it’s a very ugly mess.
Totals:
Hutch:
Tumblr media
Pre-show: 3 (1 blonde, 2 dark)   Season 1: 4 (3 blonde, 1 dark)   Season 2: 6 (4 blonde, 2 dark)   Season 3: 8 (5 blonde, 3 dark)   Season 4: 6 (1 blonde, 5 dark) Overall: 26 (13 blonde, 13 dark)
(If the math looks weird, it’s cause Abigail counts for both seasons she’s in but only once overall.)
Starsky:
Tumblr media
Pre-show: 2 (1 blonde, 1 dark)   Season 1: 4 (1 blonde, 3 dark)   Season 2: 8 (3 blonde, 5 dark)   Season 3: 10 (6 blonde, 3 dark, 1 ??)   Season 4: 11 (6 blonde, 5 dark) Overall: 35 (17 blonde, 17 dark, 1 ??)
(Thirty-five?? Calm the fuck down, Starsky.)
  In conclusion:
“Exogamists, they are not” might have been true back at the end of season 1 when it was said, but it’s certainly not true by season 4/the end of the series. Hutch now seems to favor dark-haired women, and Starsky’s about half and half, although they both wind up with an equal split overall.
Do with that information what you will; I’m outta here.

Note
I haven't had a chance to fully dive into all the goodies last nights video has produced.. nor have I had a chance to read all your thoughts which you know I crave love . I was dumb and watched 3 911 episodes last night ignoring my ig notification that ronen had shared anything so then I had to go to bed bc of work and work has been crqzy. But anyways I just wanted to hear some of your thoughts and say Tarlos officially fried my brain and I really want to write in the spare time I don't have bc of work 🙈🙊 their soft smiles, kisses, possibly meeting the fam, their date (and let's be honest Carlos was hot as fuck sauntering up to the bar announcing he was tks boyfriend... you know someone got laid that night) sorry not sorry 🙈
Anyways hit me with your thoughts when you're free if you want ❤
LISTEN, LAUREN. I am always up to share my thoughts because they never end and they just keep coming and I have to unleash them somehow or I will definitely explode.
My brain was just like, ALL CAPS SCREAMING, for about 7 hours yesterday, so I’ll leave you to explore that hot mess on my blog if you want. 😅 But, in the time since, I’ve seen a lot of discourse and stuff about the moments that we’ve seen, so I’m going to use this ask as an opportunity to weigh in on everything under the cut...
FIRST, CAN I JUST SAY that at the moment that I am writing this post, we are still trending at #5 and we’ve been in the 4-7 range for at least the past, like, IDK, 18-20 hours maybe?! I LOVE THIS FANDOM AND HOW WE LOSE OUR SHIT AT THE SMALLEST THINGS
Okay, so let me go through this thing and comment on the parts, and then give some general thoughts below:
LOVE that this is a promo entirely about the LGBTQIA+ characters and characters of color. Not exactly surprised that they still tried to put as much Rob Lowe in it as possible (that’s Fox/the writers’ M.O. it seems - to squeeze Rob/Owen in whether he fits or not). Some of his comments were a little awkward, I thought (referring to Paul’s trans storyline as “stuff” makes me go 😬), but whatever. He’s not the point of all of this, so that’s the last I’m going to talk about him.
TOMMY VEGA. I AM READY TO STAN. I love Gina Torres, I already love how much heart and soul she is giving just in these quick peeks, I cannot wait to see her in action!
Also let me use this moment to say that while it’s obvious I’m not getting my Grace + Carlos friendship (that’s fine if it stays in fandom, I’ll live), I’m SO GLAD that her and Tommy are gonna be friends! One promo mentioned that Judd has known Tommy before, so it would not surprise me if they’ve been friends for awhile. LOVE THAT.
SPECULATION: This gives me a good time to just throw out a theory that I’ve been thinking about... We know Owen and Gwen are hosting Tommy at their place for a backyard dinner. I assume her husband may be there as well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Judd and Grace are there too.
I ALSO would not be surprised if this is when one of the nights at Carlos’s place happens, like a parallel of the two dinner parties. That at least keeps every main character involved in both locations. We shall see though.
So this gathering at the firehouse seems like it’s going to be a pretty big scene, probably for episode 1. I think everyone’s gathered so that Owen can announce he’s in remission (we’ll hear him tell TK first, which is the hug that they share earlier in the trailer, I think).
But this gathering also includes a Tommy/Grace moment, a Tarlos moment, the others doing other things kind of moments. It’ll serve the same purpose as a lot of the season 1 bar scenes, and I’m so glad they’ve moved those to the firehouse. I want that place to really start feeling like a home this year.
(I want all of the locations to feel a little more grounded and special, if I’m being honest. Like, I’m SO GLAD that Carlos’s place is going to be a key location this season.)
There are now two instances of Carlos being next to Gwen (standing next to her while Owen makes an announcement and now sitting next to her at the table), so we better get some dialogue between them or I WILL BE SO UPSET. I WANT GWEN TO STAN CARLOS AS MUCH AS I DO.
EVERYONE IS SO CUTE IN THIS SCENE OKAY
TARLOS TARLOS TARLOS TARLOS
Like, WTF is TK’s face in this moment?! He looks so shy and bashful but also so happy and mushy and soft and in love. And then the way that Carlos softens because of how soft TK look?!?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?! WHY AM I CRYING.
Seriously, I have to know what they’re talking about though to make TK fucking melt like that.
Emergency stuff blah blah blah
TARLOS KISS TARLOS KISS TARLOS KISS TARLOS KISS
IT’S SO FUCKING CASUAL AND PERFECT AND NATURAL AND LITERALLY JUST LIKE A “I came over to grab this food from you but since I’m here I might as well grab a kiss because I can’t help myself”
AND LIKE... Carlos just leans right into it?!?!?!? like it’s something that they do all the time?!?!?! WTF I LOVE THEM
Mateo watches this kiss and kind of looks like he was talking to Carlos, TK, or both of them, so I love that they’re like in the middle of conversation but still like “wait let me kiss my bf because he’s close by and so hot and I love him” SCREAMING
ALSO LET ME BE THIRSTY BUT CARLOS’S SHOULDERS AND BACK?!?!?! TK’S FUCKING ARMS?!?! I’M SO DAMN GAY
Speaking of arms: this rando bartender at the wrestling match (so Covid doesn’t last long on Lone Star, I’m assuming like 2 episodes maybe?) -- I love that they tried to put him in a tight shirt and make him look like a possible threat or something and I’m just like 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
IT’S LIKE THEY’VE NEVER SEEN CARLOS REYES BEFORE
AND THEN THE FUCKING GREEK GOD HIMSELF SAUNTERS UP WEARING A TIGHT FUCKING POLO - CHEST OUT, ARMS JACKED, HANDS IN HIS POCKETS TO DRAW ATTENTION TO HIS DICK AND I’M JUST SCREAMING AT THIS POINT
BOYFRIEND
BOYFRIEND
BOYFRIEND
But, like, seriously, there is no comparison. Carlos is fucking Hercules over here and this no-name wannabe boyband member could be a sand-colored rock for all I care.
YOU CANNOT COMPETE WITH CARLOS REYES, DON’T EVEN TRY IT
I do feel like these two clips (the calendar line and then Carlos’s line) are spliced together but they might not be back-to-back, and I would love to see how TK responds to the flirting before Carlos comes over
HIS FACE IS KILLING ME THOUGH WHEN CARLOS COMES UP
BLESS RONEN
I feel like I *think* I know what he’s thinking, but I also feel like I don’t. Certainly, the scene seems to end with them both smiling and happy, but I wonder if there will be a conversation about jealousy or something?! IDK BUT THEY’RE DEFINITELY GONNA TALK. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THEY SAY.
Someone posted how happy TK is going to be to have a boyfriend who is committed enough to him to be jealous, unlike Alex who didn’t care and cheated on him. I certainly think this could be a great moment for them to establish what this new relationship means for them, and I’m excited to see what they writers have planned.
I JUST LOVE CARLOS REYES THOUGH OKAY I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
How many times is Fox gonna use that clip of him holding his gun though? We get it, he raises his gun. I’ve seen it like 7 times at this point.
I’m not complaining, really. I’ll take his face where I can get it.
LOVING the Marjan clips
LOVING the Grace/Judd clips
LOVING the Paul clips
I LOVE ALL OF MY FAVES
CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THEM DEVELOP THIS YEAR
Hearing Rafa talk about using his voice and speaking for his community just slaughters my heart, I love this man so fucking much and I’m so happy to be discovering him at the start of his career because he is going to go on to do big things and make the world a better place with his positivity and light and love and I’m so excited to follow him on that journey I just love him okay
ALSO THE MAN LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD WHAT ARE THOSE ARMS I WANT TO DIE
THE FARMER’S MARKET SCENE
Are they shopping for food for the dinner party they’re hosting?! Maybe!
WE MEET SOME OF CARLOS’S PEOPLE
There is so much speculation surrounding who these two people could be, and I’ve heard some super interesting theories about Carlos’s backstory.
I’m gonna be basic though and stick with the fact that I think they’re his parents.
AND IF THEY ARE HIS PARENTS, THEY SEEM SO HAPPY TO MEET TK.
His dad/the man, like, shakes TK’s hand with so much gusto, a giant smile on his face
And Carlos smiles as he hugs his mom/the woman, and she’s smiling too
THEY ALL JUST SEEM SO HAPPY
I CAN’T BELIEVE WE MIGHT ACTUALLY BE AVOIDING THE HOMOPHOBIC PARENTS STORYLINE COMPLETELY
Y’ALL DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THAT TRAUMA
I mean, I don’t know for sure, we’re going to have to wait for the episode. But god, do I hope for it with every fiber of my being. I want their trauma, if they have to have it, to be separate from their sexuality. They’ve done so well with TK so far, I want the same for Carlos. Let the story be fresh, let it be different, LET US HAVE DIVERSE GAY STORYLINES.
Y’ALL THE TEAM HANGING OUT AT CARLOS’S PLACE
I CANNOT
I’LL NEVER BE OVER IT
HE’S PART OF THE CREW. HE’S PART OF THE FAMILY.
IT’S EVERYTHING THAT I COULD EVER WANT FOR HIM OKAY
I’M SO FUCKING HAPPY
THEY ARE SO HAPPY
WE ARE ALL SO HAPPY
I’M CRYING
I’M DEAD
LOL that was a lot but so was this promo.
Now, some somewhat sobering thoughts...
We all know season 1 had a real diversity and inclusion problem, we’ve seen the numbers. We also know that during the promotion for season 1, we ALSO got a diversity promo focusing on the LGBTQIA+ characters and the characters of color. I love that Fox wants to highlight the incredibly talented actors and characters that they have, but all of it means nothing if they are still tokens on the show.
I have full faith that season 2 will be better, that some of the justified anger and frustration made it back to the writers and they internalized it and then make some real changes. However, because we did get a diversity promo last year, I have to remain a little cautious. This promo doesn’t really mean anything and if, somehow, season 2 goes the way season 1 did, it will be another instance of Fox using the characters of color to draw people in without actually giving them screentime and development. Which is a HUGE PROBLEM. So... I’m very excited and very hopeful, but also slightly wary.
Similarly, I’ve seen people say that they’re worried that, while there is so much Tarlos in this promo, this might be all the Tarlos we get this season. I don’t share the same concern, but like the diversity issue, I understand where that comes from. There was a lot of Tarlos in season 1′s promos and, as we now know, they got screentime in episodes 1-3 and then virtually nothing until episode 10.
I kind of lost track of the filming schedule, but I think before they went on the holiday/extended hiatus, they filmed the first 5-6 episodes? Maybe? And we know that we’re getting 14 total this season, which means it’s possible that they haven’t even filmed half of them.
I think the footage that we got in this promo is from, like, 3 or 4 episodes max. Definitely episodes 1 and 2, maybe 4, possibly 5. The crossover is episode 3 and I am still expecting to barely see Carlos in it - I just think it’s going to be very fire heavy one, especially with the members of the 118 coming in to steal screentime. He could be in one scene, maybe? Idk, I’m just not expecting a lot from that episode.
And sure, we could get a lot of Tarlos at the beginning and then nothing for a whole string of episodes, but that also just doesn’t seem possible with the way they’ve restructured the relationship dynamics. Like, it really does seem like Carlos is going to be a part of the family this year, so I think it will be easier to include him and harder to delete him entirely. (Please let him at least appear in every single episode, I don’t want to be so fucking angry like last year.)
Also, if all of these scenes stay in the episodes, we are getting AT LEAST 4 Tarlos conversations - the firehouse, the wrestling match, the farmer’s market, the flirting by the truck - and other scenes of them being in the same space as part of a group. I’m sure there will be even more that we’re just not seeing. I’m very optimistic for this season and for the Tarlos content, and I really don’t think we’ll see the front-loaded imbalance that we saw last season. I think when they get back to filming the later episodes, there will be a good amount of Tarlos content in those, too!
I will say, though, that I am worried we’ve just seen the only kiss that they’ll share in the first 5 or so episodes. I’m just so used to network TV placing a limit on gay kisses, and Idk how much that has really changed in recent years. I truly love this kiss, and I hope there are more, but I would not be surprised if we end the season having only gotten like 2-3. (PLEASE LET ME BE WRONG.)
ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS UNTIL WE FIND OUT FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chapter 9
chapter 9 of my knight au!
warnings: description of blood and injury
“Long live the Clover Kingdom! Long live King Novachrono!”
Julius cheered and clapped with the others as the light of dawn finally spread across the earth. The battlefield was illuminated after a long night. His Uncle, the king who had led them in this last battle, raised his sword above his head, the metal of his armor glinting. Julius’s father stood beside him, grinning at his son for a moment.
He was the type of person even Julius knew he could follow everywhere; and every time, that faith was confirmed. This battle against the Diamond kingdom could have gone south very quickly, but with just the Grey Deer and the King’s personal battalion fighting, they had expertly driven the enemy out with no casualties.
“Long live the King! Long live the King!”
The younger members of Julius’s squad shouted the loudest; this was the biggest battle of their lives, and it had been an overwhelming victory. Julius knew that Yami, William, Morgen, Nacht, and Patri would carry this high with them for the rest of their lives.
Some of those lives were cut short. None of them expected the second wave of Diamond forces to be so strong.
His uncle. His father. Everything changed so quickly.
I was never meant to be a king…
No… Julius had always thought he was meant to be captain. If his uncle were to die, then his father would take the throne. And if something happened to his father, the line would return to his uncle’s house… to the two children who would soon grow up to be capable leaders.
But it happened too quickly.
He was meant to be captain.
He trained and fought. He wielded a sword that no one else could carry.
Julius raised those kids like they were his own. They were like family. But that day, he was powerless to do anything but press forward and defend his kingdom, despite the deep gash in his chest and the blood of his children that were spilled.
Morgen… and Patri. Both of them befell cruel fates of different natures. And many more had to be sacrificed so the Kingdom would be victorious.
The pain in Julius’s heart told him it wasn’t worth it. Having this much blood on your hands just wasn’t worth it. If only he had died along with the others that day. If only the gash had been a little deeper.
Nevertheless, they won. Julius ignored the guilt and became King. A reluctant but benevolent king.
But even so… he still knew that wasn’t what he was meant to be. For five years, Julius searched for that answer. If he wasn’t meant to be captain, and if he wasn’t meant to be king, then what was the answer?
In the end, it seemed so simple. Julius was meant to make one person happy: Lisa.
But now, he wasn’t sure that was the answer either.
How could it be?
After all… because of me… she’s-
“JULIUS!”
Julius blinked, and suddenly he found himself standing outside, in a forest. The sun blinded him for a moment, and it took one more yell from behind to fully get his attention.
“JULIUS!”
Finally, awareness fully returned. Julius looked down at his hand, which was shaking as it held the small rapier. The blade was coated with blood, the red substance sliding off the tip and into the dirt. Dead bodies of the enemy were all around, but Julius felt no injuries of his own.
That’s right… I killed them.
He finally turned around, blinking as the scene came into focus. Sei was there, bent over Lisa’s body, his eyes wide. Sweat beaded his forehead as he fought the pain from the arrow in his shoulder, but he had to keep it together. His hands were covered in blood as he desperately pressed on the wound in her neck before glancing frantically back up at Julius.
“Hurry! She’s still alive!”
The rapier slipped out of Julius’s hand, and he was by Sei’s side before it hit the dirt.
Julius didn’t say anything, just knelt down and obeyed Sei’s every word. He admittedly had no idea how to deal with wounds of this caliber, and honestly he was afraid to open his mouth. The blood and dirt, the very sight of Lisa laying here fighting for her life; it was enough to make him sick. The panic he had relinquished before was creeping back up his neck.
No, no, no, no, no-
“Keep pressing!” Sei ordered, sitting back and tearing at the bottom of his shirt. “And don’t move the arrow! We can use it to stop up the bleeding with the help of gravity.”
Julius nodded, his hands pressing gently on the wound, staring at the back of Lisa’s head as Sei got to work stopping up the more shallow wounds on her back.
Shit… shit!
It was all Sei could do to keep his hands from trembling as he slowly stemmed the flow of blood.
I told Fuego I was going to bring her home safely… yet I encouraged her and let her fight! Stupid!! He grit his teeth, his vision wavering again as another pang radiated from his injury. I have to save her. Lisa, you’re not this weak, right?
“Sei… are you ok?”
Sei looked up to see Julius had directed his attention up to him. The man was clearly Not Okay, his eyes blank and hollow. The King glanced at the arrow in Sei’s shoulder. “I’m fine, it didn’t hit anything vital… I don’t think,” Sei told him, pointing down at Lisa again. “Focus!”
“R-Right.” Julius looked back down, his stomach turning. “The blood- it won’t stop-”
“Press harder!” Sei barked, quickly starting to rip another makeshift bandage. He was running out of material on his shirt. “You’re not going to hurt her.” Not any more than she already is. Fortunately, Sei knew enough to keep that last part to himself.
“Alright-” Julius winced as he obeyed, his mind going a bit woozy at the feeling under his hands. For a man who had both seen and shed much blood, he was dealing with this situation very badly. However, a bit of confidence spiked within him. Breathe… she’s alive… you can save her… Sei knows what he’s doing… we can save her… we can save her!
Right at that moment, both of them heard the sound of galloping horses coming towards them. Julius stiffened up, but Sei shook his head to diffuse the tension. “Their coming from our side of the border- it’s probably-”
Sei was right. A group of riders skidded to a stop a couple meters away, the one in the front immediately leaping off of his horse and sprinting towards them despite his heavy armor.
“SEI!!!”
Fuegoleon’s face was filled with both relief and shock at the sight of his beloved alive, albeit with an arrow in his shoulder. “And- King Julius!!! Are you alright-” But the shock strengthened when he saw the girl Sei and Julius were kneeling by, and all the color drained from his face. “L-Lisa?!”
Fuegoleon! Thank goodness! Julius looked behind him to see more soldiers behind him, most notably the masked face of William. The younger man opened his mouth to let out what seemed to be a sigh of relief; Although Julius always had trouble deciphering his emotions. Nevertheless, Julius managed to give his former student a smile before someone else screamed his name and grabbed his arm.
“JULIUS! What are you doing in the dirt- AND IS THAT BLOOD ALL OVER YOU!”
Of course, it was the constant thorn in Julius’s side, none other than his trusty advisor Marx. With surprising strength, Marx managed to drag Julius up and away from Lisa. “Wait! No-” Julius’s bloodied hand stretched out towards her body, but fortunately Fuegoleon immediately took his place at Sei’s side, and more soldiers gathered around the body to tend to the wounds.
“At least you’re safe… I was so worried when you went missing-” Julius looked down to see Marx nearly in tears despite the disapproving look on his face. “Honestly, how many enemies do you even have?”
“Any enemy of the kingdom,” Julius replied vaguely, looking back at the huddle, his anxiety mounting as he heard Fuegoleon talking, his tone grave.
“Sei… these wounds-” Fuegoleon gulped nervously, watching as Sei finally tackled the main source of blood. Lisa had yet to stir, but the slight heave of her back signified that she was indeed still alive.
“I know. The ones on her back are manageable, but even getting the arrow out of her neck is going to require more skill than I have…” Sei shook his head a little, his spirits plummeting. “We have to do what we can and head back to town now.”
“...right.” Fuegoleon nodded to his men, who started to bring a horse over. “Do we even have access to a doctor that good?”
Before Sei could answer, Julius cut in. “Take her to Owen. He’s the best doctor in this kingdom.”
“Doctor Owen? Are you sure?” Fuegoleon’s brow furrowed. “I thought his services were only reserved for royalty?”
“It’s fine, tell him I sent you.” Julius gave the captain a nod, forcing a smile on his face. “Lisa helped save me from my captors… I don’t want her to perish on my account.”
Don’t die don’t die don’t di-
“Sir! Are you sure?” Marx grabbed Julius’s sleeve, speaking in a hushed voice. “Fuegoleon is right, if people hear that Owen healed a commoner-”
“I don’t care.”
Marx fell silent, slowly looking up into his superior’s eyes. For a brief moment, he saw a glint in Julius’s very soul. But when he next spoke, his tone wasn’t angry, or even firm. He was scared.
Vulnerable.
“Marx… I love her. More than anything. She has to live.”
Despite the multitude of questions that surged in Marx’s chest, he bit his tongue. With a curt nod, Marx turned with Julius to watch as Fuegoleon gently lifted Lisa’s body up onto his horse while the others started cleaning Sei’s wound.
“...I’m sorry.”
Fuegoleon knew that Lisa couldn’t hear him, but for some reason he had to whisper those words. The girl was safe on his horse, and he held her limp body steady as the group raced back to the castle as fast as they could. He glanced over at Sei, who was well enough to ride on his own beside his husband. The two locked eyes for a moment, and Sei immediately picked up on Fuegoleon’s guilt. The man’s lips twitched into a rare, comforting smile.
“It’ll be okay, Fuego.” Sei’s grip tightened on his reins, surprising Fuegoleon with the confidence in his voice. “She fought well… we saved the King together. She’ll get through this, too. You guys arrived just in time to do that much.”
Slowly, Fuegoleon found himself smiling as well.
“Right… she will. We all will!”
He looked forward again, the confidence of a squad captain coming back into his movements, as he lead the charge forward like he had always done.

Some thoughts on The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II threw me for a loop in subtle, nuanced, deep, and impactful ways. It was a story of loss and hate, resentment and grief, and the major theme: The Cycle of Revenge.
These themes all come together in the last fight between Abby and Ellie– which, before I delve into some kind of analysis, made me cry. It was honest in its delivery, resonant in its pain. It seemed Ellie wasn’t just fighting Abby, but herself in a sense. And because we had played a big part of the game as Abby, I felt a hesitance to fight Abby to the death. It doesn’t feel victorious-- plainly put, it felt “bad” to fight Abby, and in another sense, it felt futile.
I have a soft spot for storytelling, and there’s always been something about The Last of Us which touched me, probably because it focuses on the complicated nature of what’s morally right or wrong. At the game’s beginning, I wasn’t completely sold on Abby’s storyline. I could tell that Naughty Dog was trying to show a neutral grey area, that there’s no black and white, no true heroes and villains. I think alot of stories are going with this direction now, some poorly (i.e. a villain gets an underserved or forced redemption arc), but The Last of Us Part II treated its characters less like heroes and villains and more like human beings who are capable of good and evil, capable of bravery, selflessness, indoctrination, and antagonism.
The list could go on. The world of The Last of Us strives to mirror our own world to the best of its ability. It asks “what could go wrong in a post-apocalyptic world”, then in the same breath, “but what is beautiful and meaningful in such a world too?”
As the story progressed, I saw parallels between Ellie, Abby, and Joel. I saw the message as ‘destruction in revenge’; but also, by having two protagonists, one of which I should have been led to despise, I came to see each person as a “main character” of their own story, as we are main characters of our own lives, or stories, due to the limits of our perception. Abby’s world is different from Ellie’s, but there’s overlap, enough to see them as a reflection of each other. And as I’ll delve into, their story arcs follow similar paths, as they’ve both experienced loss which left them incapacitated, except... Abby’s story is about redemption, while Ellie’s is about hate and revenge.
This final fight, the scene near the end of the game, struck me for a number of reasons.
The location of the fight has significance, as the ocean represents our subconscious, and the fog represents disillusionment and confusion. Ellie had buried memories of Joel, both good and bad, into her subconscious. That was her way of dealing with the pain. She buried the pain “underwater” so to speak, into an underwater oceanic subconscious.
In that scene, she is surrounded by an “ocean of grief.”
Tumblr media
It resurfaces to Ellie in dreams throughout the game. PTSD flashes of memory too.
Ellie went after Abby a second time, and engaged in a fight with her. Abby, starving and weak, could hardly fight back. At the last moment with Abby’s head underwater, as she was drowning, Ellie sees an image of Joel– happy, safe, alive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she falters, she releases Abby.
Ellie continued to seek vengeance, an outward action, rather than experience grief, which is an inward action. Revenge as the distraction. Grief as the unbelievably long, lonely process. Revenge may have been satisfying, but if Abby had been killed, what would happen next? Ellie would be sitting in the ocean, still wrought with grief, still unable to essentially face Joel’s memory (whether it’s the terrible memory of his death, or the good memories, or the memories where she pushed him away because of resentment).
When Ellie says to Abby, “Go. Just take him,” she’s talking about Abby taking Lev and making their getaway, but to me… it was the overarching summation, the metaphorical line that delved into the point of the entire story.
When Ellie says, “Go. Just take him”, she’s also talking about Joel.
The vast ocean in front of her represents the subconscious, the unknown, and death. Ellie is sitting in the water, facing the unknown, and inwardly, the grief she feels over losing Joel. When she releases Abby, she is releasing her desire for vengeance. It is a singular point in the story. Revenge is a goal, a mission– it’s what drove the story, especially from Ellie’s point of view. But… revenge is not really a process, it’s a cycle. Because as the story showed, one act of vengeance turns into another act, and then another. It is the serpent biting its own tail.
Abby’s cycle of revenge halted because of Lev.
Abby’s responsibility was altered by the presence of Lev. Lev tells Abby to stop just before Abby is about to kill Dina.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The music at this part slows from an adrenaline-fueled heartbeat. The hate and the rage lessen. Quiet takes over. The presence of Lev is what stopped her. This new-found purpose halts the cycle of revenge on Abby’s part. She is done.
Abby found new purpose and direction in her life because of Lev. Abby’s relationship with Lev is very similar to Joel’s relationship with Ellie in the first game. Joel found new purpose and meaning in his life with the arrival of Ellie. They even look similar to Joel and Ellie, I believe, in how Abby is clearly Lev’s protector, as Joel was Ellie’s protector in the first game:
Tumblr media
(Even the colors of their clothes resemble Ellie and Joel in the first game).
By the game’s end, Abby has found new purpose in her life just as Joel found new purpose in his through Ellie. As Joel said in the first game,
“I struggled for a long time with surviving. And you– No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.”
Earlier, Abby and Owen are speaking outside the surgery room. Abby says that Yara and Lev are just kids, then she asks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Abby found the light in Lev, a Seraphite, or “Scar”– she found the light in someone who would otherwise be her enemy.
Abby has a recurring dream, in which she’s walking down the hospital corridor towards the surgery room where her father was killed. It is her place of fear, her nightmare, and over and over it haunts her, replaying her pain and trauma.
After saving Yara and Lev, the dream changes. Her father is alive and smiling, almost as if this is his way of saying goodbye to her.
Tumblr media
That is what’s crucial here– After Abby kills Joel and satiates her need for revenge, she still has the nightmare of her father’s death. Revenge did not reconcile her pain, it did not stop the nightmare– in fact, it only created guilt.
In the boat scene, Owen explains why he killed Danny. He describes how there was a Scar at a camp, and he was going to kill him. He describes how he hit the man on the head, hard, but he just laid there. He didn’t go for his weapon. He was an old man who was tired and ready.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And something about that weakness, that human vulnerability, breaks Owen, and he can’t kill this old man. The cycle of revenge exhausts itself.
This story directly parallels Joel’s– he was an old man who was tired and ready.
In this same scene, Owen shames Abby for going after Joel. Mel does the same in a later scene, telling Abby that she’s a bad person. Abby’s group struggled with the action they took on Joel. Abby does too. Her reaction to Owen and Mel shaming her shows she feels guilt over what she did.
That guilt is reconciled with the arrival of Yara and Lev; particularly Lev, who becomes Abby’s responsibility later in the story.
By the same token, Ellie had that option with Dina and the baby. She could have shifted her direction in life towards her new family, but she chose not to– instead, she went after Abby a second time. It could be because she was overwhelmed by grief, or because her trauma felt unbearable. Maybe she was obsessed with the idea that revenge would alleviate the pain. Or maybe, she felt responsible for Joel’s death.
Ellie continued to move her life in the direction of vengeance, when really she needed to confront her own grief of losing him. And that takes time. That takes confrontation. The stagnation of “doing nothing” is not in Ellie’s character (for instance, Dina loses Jesse because Abby killed Jesse, but she does not seek revenge. She refocuses her life on her baby).
To contrast, Dina’s responsibility in life is to her child; Ellie’s responsibility in life is not necessarily to get revenge but to atone for her resentment towards Joel.
Ellie attempts to drown Abby as though it will bury the memories of Joel even more, but they surface regardless, one small droplet memory of Joel sitting on the porch with a guitar, and she can’t do it. She can’t continue the cycle of revenge.
After the final fight, Ellie looks out into the ocean, but there is no horizon. The fog covers it. There is no point, no “point on the horizon.” There is no point in continuing the cycle of revenge. As the poet John Ford wrote, “Revenge proves its own executioner.” Ellie was destroying herself as much as she was destroying her enemies.
I think... the reason Ellie had such difficulties dealing with her grief was because she felt responsible for Joel’s death in a roundabout way-- if she had died on the operating table, Joel would have never been a target, if she had never been immune, she would have turned when she was bitten-- and because she felt guilt, because she couldn’t accept their last conversation.
Which was so beautiful in its simplicity. Neither Ellie or Joel knew this would be their last conversation, and so there’s a sense of mundanity about it. It’s crucial but at the same time, not (because we as the players know this is their last conversation).
Ellie says she will consider forgiving him. The animosity Ellie felt towards Joel was not entirely resolved. And besides that, she had been giving him the silent treatment for over a year before that. She lost time with him because she held a grudge; the grudge is another reason she feels guilty. (Not saying Ellie’s grudge isn’t warranted. That’s what makes the situation so complicated and nuanced. She had a right to be mad because she wanted the vaccine, she was willing to sacrifice her life for it. So we see the difficulty she has in accepting Joel’s decision). Which spurred her on in her quest for revenge, while pushing aside the grief she felt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is not point in continuing the cycle of revenge. Grief… it doesn’t necessarily have a “point” either, I don’t think. Like the ocean, it comes in waves. It soaks the body. It ebbs and flows, but it will lessen with time. As with Abby, who found a purpose in life by protecting Lev, Ellie has the option of finding a purpose in her life too– not the one she initially wanted, in which she sacrificed herself for a cure, but maybe one built with the same kind of love Joel felt for her.
But the process of grief means Ellie has to essentially, at one point, say to Death or the Unknown, Okay. You can take him. When she releases Joel, she is releasing so, so much more than what she would have gained from killing Abby.
At the game’s beginning, when Joel was dying, he looked at Ellie, and he smiled. There was something in his eyes that said he was glad, for everything, the pain, the struggle, the heartbreak, because in the end he’s looking at Ellie, and in the last crucial moment it’s as if he thinks, ‘It was worth it, for you’.
He knew the consequences of his actions when he stopped the Fireflies, when he stopped the cure from ever being made, and when he took Ellie from that hospital. He knew there was a risk involved, but at the game’s ending, during the flashback scene, he says, “If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance at that moment… I would do it all over again.”
(*Brief note: Interestingly enough, Abby is not explicitly seeking revenge on Joel because he prevented the cure from being made... she’s seeking revenge because he killed her father. It shows that in the grand scheme of things, what matters is the close relationships we form with others... that if Ellie had been the cure she would have been remembered as an almost “deified” concept, but Joel would have returned to the hopelessness of his own life.  Abby didn’t enact revenge for humanity’s sake, she did it for her father. This ties in nicely with the ongoing war between the WLF and the Seraphites, and how each faction is a faceless mob until individuals like Yara and Lev meet Abby, or Owen has his emotional experience with the old man who was too tired to fight. Owen says he’s tired of fighting for land he doesn’t give a fuck about. It begs the question of what’s important in life... like the memories of Joel and Ellie exploring museums or Tommy and Ellie sharpshooting. It was the small, seemingly insignificant moments which mattered most, the moments Ellie remembered).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joel died without regret. He died knowing that Ellie would be willing to forgive him. And even though their time of peace was brief, he died happy for the small moments they got to spend together, that for all the pain and suffering, in the end, it was worth it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ellie is angry at him because she believes her life would have mattered if she sacrificed herself for a vaccine. That there was a point to all the loss, for her best friend Riley’s death, for the numerous other deaths she witnessed in The Last of Us. When Joel took her from the hospital, it was selfish, but that’s because her life does matter, to him. Beyond being a cure, beyond being a martyr, Ellie as a human being matters to him. Yes, she would have been remembered as “the cure”, but only Joel would have remembered her as an actual human being: a person with habits, quirks, unique traits, vices and virtues.
He would do it again knowing how much she would resent him for it. I don’t know how else to describe that. I think it goes along the notion that, you don’t truly understand what it means to love someone more than anything, more than yourself, until you’ve had a child. With loss comes grief, then hope. Joel lost his daughter Sarah and suffered for years, but Ellie gave him hope. Abby lost her father, but found hope in Lev.
Ellie lost Joel, but what kind of hope returned to her at the story’s end?
When she returns to her home, Dina and the baby are gone. The house is empty, and all of Ellie’s belongings have been put into a single room. She goes there, and picks up the guitar Joel gave her.
Ellie lost two of her fingers, and now she’s unable to throughly play the guitar. The notes are disjointed, the melody is cracked. That is how Ellie is now. I’m not saying she’s a miserable broken wreck now– I’m saying she’s rough around the edges, she has a noticeable aura of fragmentation about her. Even if the grief lessens with time, she will be hardened by this pain. What she’s experienced has changed her and it’s a weight she’ll have to carry for the rest of her life. As the title suggest, she is the “last of us” regarding our journey throughout the game-- every emotion, every violent action, every loss and heartache-- Ellie is the bearer of it.
She places the guitar against the windowsill and leaves.
Tumblr media
And you see that shot through the open window, Ellie leaving the house in the background, the guitar leaning against the windowsill in the foreground. I see that and I know, in one year the vines and weeds will start to take over the house like they do in all the abandoned houses. In two years the strings will rust and snap. In ten the guitar will become part of nature. Nature will come in through the window, and it will wrap itself around the guitar. The wood will crack and eventually it will disintegrate from the rain and wind.
The reason I think there’s an emblem of a moth on the guitar is because moths have very short lifespans (in their adult stage, they typically only live about one week). Because of the brevity of their life, and because they are night creatures, they are considered messengers of the unknown, or the “beyond.” Something not quite of this world, symbols of magic. But I think the more important part of the moth on the guitar is to show how brief Joel and Ellie’s time together was; how the lives of the characters in The Last of Us are often cut short, often without warning. In an even broader sense, life is brief, and time’s a thief, as the saying goes. The guitar in the last frame of the story was played for only a few years, and then, it has been left to the hands of time.
It’s here that we don’t really know what happens to Ellie: does she go in search of Dina? Does she go back to Jackson? Does she begin somewhere else, or will she live on her own for the rest of her days?
The uncertainty of her life from this point on leaves a bittersweet touch to the story. People move on, people leave. What is an old guitar weathered by the seasons, lost to time, was once a beautiful song shared between two people.
Joel, in saving her life, essentially gave her a chance at life. The rest is up to her.

Opinion: JURASSIC WORLD Learned Nothing From JURASSIC PARK
Tumblr media
Twenty-seven years ago (god, can you believe it?) a sci-fi blockbuster with Things To Say exploded into cinemas. Tackling the subject of science, control, and whether or not man should play God, it also featured state-of-the-art special effects, intense sequences of dinosaur action, and just enough human heart to win audiences over. Of course we’re talking about Jurassic Park. It’s a monumental film that still holds up today, even as the effects are finally starting to show their age. It’s a deep shame that the sequel series, Jurassic World, has learned nothing from it. If anything, World is very much a reaction to Park...and not in a good way.
The first three films in the Park series all dealt with questions of science and progress, and what responsibility man has to the things he creates. Sure, The Lost World and Jurassic Park III weren’t nearly as deft in the handling of these themes as the first film, but they maintained the same spirit. Jurassic Park asked whether or not mankind had the right to resurrect a dead species for their amusement; The Lost World carried this over, asking how much responsibility man should have in maintaining this resurrected species’s existence; Jurassic Park III insinuated that man could still finds things to learn from these science-born dinosaurs even if they weren’t the real deal. Science was the forefront in these stories, perhaps to diminishing results, but at least Science maintained a consistent role of moral gray area. Park III is considered the low point of the series, a brisk hour-and-a-half of rollercoaster excitement with goofy moments and lightweight human drama, but even that film conjures impressive moments of dinosaur action and awe, including a river sequence where Dr. Alan Grant, finding himself returned to this world he vowed to disavow, discovers he still has reverence for the giant beasts that roam this island, and maybe doesn’t hate them as much as he lays claim. The scene in the aviary with the pterodactyls is particularly effective, using shadow and light and fog and height to add tension and terror. No, it’s no masterpiece, and if you detest the film, I don’t blame you. But detesting that film is what led to the existence of Jurassic World, which claims to hold the same ideals as the first series, but none of the actual heft.
Jurassic World starts off with an interesting premise: what if Jurassic Park had actually opened to the public and was a success? This is a great hook, sure, but with everything that has come before in the first three movies, this isn’t something that should have ever come to pass. But, movie needs to movie. We have questions of whether or not science should be creating these creatures, whether or not they have the right to experiment with DNA and create “new” dinosaurs that are bigger meaner and badder than regular dinosaurs, questions of corporate influence. As with the first Park, World plays the same beats: everything is great, people are coming to visit and inspect certain aspects, everything goes wrong, dinosaurs get loose, people start dying. World turns the scale up to 11 since now we have an entire amusement park full of people instead of a small group of survivors, meaning bigger thrills, bigger sequences, bigger dinosaurs. Everything is bigger, including the science, but while it’s bigger it’s also hollow. Nostalgia and references to past films can’t fill the void that the film builds around this premise we’ve seen before. I admit that when I walked out of the theater the first time, I was happy. After the letdown of Park III, World felt exciting and invigorating and fresh. Then I watched it a few more times, and the sheen began to vanish. Stilted dialogue, characters with little charm, obvious setups, contrived danger, and an obvious sequel bait ending revealed the true corporate influence of the film: franchising. Meanwhile, Science and Nature were still adversaries in this new series of dino-centric films, but Science became less of a gray area, less of a “How much right do we have?” and dialed into a “Science Is Evil And Scientists Do Evil Things For Money.” Meanwhile, Nature, which is true neutral in the first three films (just don’t fuck around with Nature and you won’t get bit), has become the True Good Guy, and instead of seeing the fear of messing with Nature, now we see how Nature is being oppressed by Science, and so we should begin to empathize with our friendly dinosaur foes.
And what about those sequels? Both The Lost World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom start with the premise that Something Has Survived and opens with dire situations. One involves a family on a beach who stumble across dinosaurs, the other involves corporate espionage gone horribly awry when they underestimate the prehistoric menace around them. Both are tense, well-shot, and arguably Kingdom’s sequence is the best opening scene in the series. And both films move forward from there, revealing the dinosaurs are still alive (Lost World explains a second island called Site B, Fallen Kingdom simply continues the tale), getting Jeff Goldblum involved, and asking what responsibility the creators have for their creations. But the key difference between the films is that Fallen Kingdom asks the audience to have empathy and sympathy for the dinosaurs of the island -- most of them, in fact, excepting the genetic mutations crafted and grown by the park scientists. Blue, a raptor introduced in the first World, is the reason Chris Pratt’s Owen goes back to the island to help rescue the creatures from imminent death. He formed a bond with the raptor from birth, and the dinosaur -- of a species that once was the scariest goddamn thing in cinema -- is reduced to little more than a pet with big teeth and claws. The Lost World shows us that Nature is scary, and when Science believes that it can control Nature then Life Will Find A Way (remember that line?). Dinosaurs in the first three Park films are forces of Nature, and if left alone will leave you alone. But Nature doesn’t take kindly to intruders: see literally every scene in The Lost World. Even the big leaf-eaters are dangerous and scary when uncaged and scared. Fallen Kingdom makes the big ask of the audience to see the dinosaurs as on-par with the human characters, to have empathy for them. And while, to an extent, we should have empathy for Living Things, Fallen Kingdom goes so far as to spare the lives of dinosaurs brought to the mainland rather than let them die so they don’t get released into the world of humans. Which, if you’ve seen The Lost World, is kind of a bad thing. Many people reacted poorly to the T-Rex roaming through San Diego searching for its young, and Fallen Kingdom decides to not only go with that same premise, but ups the ante by unleashing several species out into the human world, this time a cliffhanger. In fact, the upcoming third film, Jurassic World: Dominion rests entirely on this premise, and will no doubt focus on attempting to contain the prehistoric creatures roaming through suburbia. But how can we, the audience, even take this seriously when we’ve been asked to have empathy with the dinosaurs now? If these creatures are now characters, toys to be sold and displayed on children’s coloring books, exactly how deadly can they -- or will they -- be?
Dominion already appears to be making similar decisions as Jurassic Park III, by including Sam Neill and Laura Dern as Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler respectively. And in continuing to funhouse-mirror the previous trilogy, now instead of a dinosaur island that is strictly off-limits to humans we have dinosaurs in the human world. Both sequels were primed as rollercoasters, introducing new creatures and thrills, and no doubt Dominion will make the same mistakes as Park III and the other World films. But Park III at least remembered that the focus of the show is the big bad dinos, how uncontrollable they are, how scary they are, and how Nature is a force unto itself. Alan Grant learned by the end of Park III that the raptors he was researching in his studies were similar enough to the raptors of Site B that he could find a way to communicate with them to a degree of saving everyone’s lives. He had turned his nose at the Science of the creations, not recognizing the Nature that still existed in their modified DNA. What will he learn -- or unlearn -- in Dominion?
The Jurassic Park films were all about asking questions. “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should,” Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm says in the first film, to great effect. Meanwhile, Jurassic World’s tagline could be summed up as “The scientists never should and they are still doing it.” Where we were asked to think in the first films, now we can sit back and be told the moral. We can just watch the onscreen drama as Things Happen and People Get Eaten. Jurassic World learned the wrong things from Jurassic Park, and to that effect, perhaps the filmmakers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could make a new Jurassic film that they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Raise Your Hand || Para
Who: Mateo Lopez & Owen Pierce
When: July 23rd, 2020
Where An empty classroom.
Notes: Scene Week: Roleplay, impact-play, light breath-play. Class: Sub 101. @dommateolopez
This would be an interesting one for sure. Owen was delightfully responsive even through text, and he couldn't deny that the obvious interest was an ego boost. Mateo smirked to himself as he walked to the chosen classroom, only wearing ripped jeans, Chucks, a tight white t-shirt and a leather jacket, trying to fit the bad boy image. The roleplay was something he was excited about, something he didn't get to indulge in very often but never failed to get him going. Settling in one of the desks, he waited for Owen, glancing to the door when he heard it open. "Pretty rude of you to be late to a meeting you called, professor. I have much better things I could be doing right now," he said, one brow lifted. Owen could hardly concentrate during practice. He'd been looking forward to this scene with Mateo all week. It was so different, exciting and above all, it was gonna be fun. Mateo certainly struck Owen as a serious, strict Dom at first glance, but after taking a chance and asking for a scene, the blonde quickly discovered that Mateo had a super playful side that he was more than willing to tap into. Dressed in a tight pair of navy pants that hugged his booty perfectly, a crisp white button-down, and a pink tie, Owen slid on a pair of reader's glasses to sell the appearance of the demure, shy student-teacher he was playing up for their scene. He practically into the classroom they'd reserved and stopped in his tracks when he saw Mateo. God, he looked even better in person - and dressed like that, Owen was melting before the scene even began. Clearing his throat, Owen pushed his glasses up his nose and fell into character without hesitation. "My apologies, Mr. Lopez. A...parent-teacher conference ran over." He walked over to Mateo's desk and sat gingerly on it, shyly meeting Mateo's cocky gaze. "I doubt much else should take priority over your grade in this class.... I take it you know that you're failing, yes? I want to help you, but you have to let me." The tiny shadow of a smile graced Owen's features at the thought of just how he hoped to be helping Mateo very, very shortly. Owen's enthusiasm was obvious even without him saying anything. Mateo noted the pep in his step, which only served to call attention to his tight ass in those snug pants. He didn't pretend not to be checking the submissive out, figuring a cocky rebel wouldn't hide his wandering eyes when it came to pretty little professors like him. "Still pretty rude of you, prof," he remarked. He leaned back in the chair, tongue smoothing over his lips. "I'm failing by your standards, sure. By my standards, I'm passing with flying colors, considering how damn hard it is to concentrate in your class." Owen didn’t miss the way Mateo shamelessly looked him over. In character or out, the way the other was looking at him was enough to make Owen blush - and blush he did. Pushing his glasses up his nose again, Owen took in a breath and cleared his throat again. He took an opportunity to look Mateo over, himself - his eyes wandered from the man’s lips, down to his chest, and back up as the other leaned back in his chair. “Oh? And what, pray tell, is distracting you in my class, Mr. Lopez?” Owen asked, softly, purposefully scooting up so that his ass was pressed up a bit by the edge of the desk - giving Mateo an even better view of the bubble booty he was so proud of. Mateo: His mouth curved in a smirk when he noticed how Owen's eyes looked him over. One hand stretched out on the top of the desk, fingertips only an inch from the submissive's thigh. "Well, there's this guy. He's hot as hell. Tight body, sexy lips and the most fuckable ass you could ever imagine. And it's so hard to concentrate because I just keep thinking of all the nasty, delicious things I could do to his body and how many ways I could make him scream without even getting naked," he said in a low voice, dark eyes fixed on the blond's face. Owen's breath hitched and his cheeks flushed an even brighter shade of pink as he got more and more wrapped up in the scene. "Oh, my g-..." Owen caught himself, pushed his glasses up his nose once again (it was becoming his go-to, teacher-esque, shtick, but he was positive he looked cute doing it.) "Well... Whomever that student is, I can have him moved to the opposite end of the room so as not to pose a distraction to your learning environment, Mr. Lopez. Would...would that suffice?" Owen dropped his hand, letting it land over Mateo's. "Perhaps then you'll be able to put all that...passion into studying as opposed to the extracurricular activities you're imagining." Mateo grinned wider, shifting his hand slightly to run his fingers along the sub's thigh without dislodging the hand over his own. "I don't think that would work, professor. See, he sits at the front of the room. Sometimes turns his back to the class when he's writing on the board, just putting that perfect peach of his on display for me to see and wonder what it looks like with a cock buried deep inside," he rasped. "Because you see, it's really all your fault I'm failing, professor, with the way you flaunt your fuckable body at every turn. So I don't see why I should be punished when it's you who should be bent over your desk, apologizing to me for compromising my education." Owen's lips parted with a little gasp at the feeling of Mateo's fingers gliding against his thigh. He looked up, his wide, blue eyes meeting Mateo's as he listened with bated breath to every last thing the Dominant said, idly leaning in a bit as Mateo drawled on in that deep, effortlessly sexy tone that he used so well. "I...I see." Owen responded weakly, his bottom lip quivering a little in response to Mateo's intensity. "...You're right. That hardly seems fair. If I'm the reason for your academic misfortune, I should be held accountable for it." Owen stood up and moved in a little closer, reaching out to run his hand up Mateo's chest and into the back of his hair. "So, Sir - hold me accountable. Please." The last plea came out in a hushed whisper, Owen's lips curling up into a little smirk, knowing that the role-play bit of their scene was about to give way to what they both were really here to do. He loved how Owen reacted to everything he was saying, his cheeks flushing and lips parting just from the dirty talk. Mateo couldn't help the predatory grin that spread across his lips, his body leaning back against the chair to put himself on display for the eager boy. "Please? And what do I get for holding you accountable, professor? I'm not putting you in your place for nothing, so I expect there to be more reparation than just you screaming my name for punishing your sweet ass." Just like that, Owen was putty in Mateo’s hands. It didn’t take much, sure - but it was still impressive to the blonde how seamlessly Mateo had snatched absolute control over the scene and of him. Owen felt a magnetic pull to the Dom that absolutely had everything to do with all that natural dominance Mateo practically oozed. Gulping, Owen dropped his gaze to Mateo’s thighs and moved forward, gingerly setting himself down in the other’s lap. “I think...depending on how thoroughly reprimanded I feel...I could be convinced to pass you, no further questions asked.” Owen leaned in and ghosted his lips against the length of Mateo’s neck. “Will that suffice, Mr. Lopez?” Mateo: His brows rose, hands coming to rest on Owen's thighs as he found himself with a lapful of beautiful blond. A harsh chuckle spilled from his lips, and he reached up, holding the submissive's jaw. "No deal, professor. I need a guarantee from you that I'll be passing before I punish your needy ass. If you want to keep being a fucking tease, you'll have me to look forward to all next year - while you spend every class wondering just what you missed out on," he rasped, rocking his hips up for the blond to feel his thickening cock through his pants against that bubble butt. Owen fought back the little whine that threatened to escape when Mateo reached up and captured his chin in his fingers, physically holding Owen's awestruck gaze as he spoke. The blonde opened his mouth to respond, only to have the words swallowed up by a pathetic little moan when Mateo flexed his hips up against his ass, giving Owen an instant indication for what was in store for him if he complied. "Oh, god." Owen hummed out, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment as he rutted back down against Mateo's bulge. "Of course, Sir. I'll pass you. I promise. You have my word. Just, please take me." As fun as the role-playing was, Owen was desperate for Mateo at this point. He would say anything if it meant getting bent over and filled by the cock he felt throbbing teasingly under his ass. Mateo let out a low growl of approval as Owen begged so sweetly, rubbing his ass back against his bulge like a bitch in heat. He would never tire of feeling a needy sub rubbing against him like that. Leaning in,he pressed a punishing kiss to Owen's mouth, still holding his jaw in a firm grip. "Get up and strip. Leave the tie on and lean over your desk so I can see that sweet peach," he ordered in a rough tone, almost throwing the submissive's face with how abruptly he released the blond. Owen was almost a little light-headed with how turned on he was. It was becoming clearer by the second why Mateo had not one, not two but three submissives to his name. He was a natural at this. Even in such a playful context, everything from his voice, to his touch down to the way he looked at a person exuded sheer dominance, and Owen was undeniably helpless against it. The blonde's breath hitched momentarily before Mateo's lips were crashing against his. Inhaling sharply through his nose, Owen parted his lips and melted into the kiss, falling in against Mateo's body as he floated away on the intensity of it all. When they broke apart Owen was left breathless and flushed and his glasses were crooked. With an affirming whimper, Owen stood and instantly complied, unbuttoning his shirt and throwing it off, leaving the characteristically pink tie on as he walked to the front of the room. Without hesitation, the submissive dropped his slacks to his ankles and bent forward, giving his ass a teasing little wiggle as he waited for what Mateo would do next. He licked his lips as he watched Owen strip down save for his tie. He knew the blond was gorgeous - obviously - but damn did the reality outweigh the idle pondering of what he might look like without his clothes on. Almost lazily, the Dom got up and slid his jacket off, striding over to where the boy was bent over the desk, naked and waiting. Mateo cupped his ass in wide palms, squeezing his cheeks firmly. "Now this is exactly what I pictured. Thick and sweet. I just hope it doesn't bruise easy," he teased in a low voice before laying a firm smack on one pert cheek. Biting down on his bottom lip, Owen let out a satisfied hum under his breath and arched his back, purposefully pushing his ass backward into Mateo's firm grip. "Mmm, I'm glad the reality lived up to what you were fantasizing about, Sir. As for the bruising...I honestly can't say for sure but by all means, don't hold back regardless." Owen quipped back, letting out a little yelp and jerking forward when Mateo finally reeled back and slapped his hand against one of the blonde's cheeks, making it jiggle in place as a faint pink tint started to color the otherwise pale skin. Mateo: "Well now in class, I'll be focusing on how pretty I know this tight ass is, and how nice it looks when I'm spanking it," he mused, laying a few more firm slaps on each side, just to watch the muscle shimmy under each blow. "Spread your legs, professor. I want to see your hole twitch every time I spank this bubble butt of yours. And tell me - did you ever think you'd be in this position?" he asked curiously, pausing for a moment to palm his own prominent bulge. Owen whined out desperately, his face was flushed and his face showed nothing short of utter delight with each strike Mateo dealt against his ass. He arched his back and his rear end outwards, wordlessly but obviously begging for as much as Mateo would generously provide. "...and that's all I want you focusing on, Mr. Lopez. Seeing as passing my class is no longer a concern, I want every ounce of your attention on my ass, how tight it is, and how I'll be begging you to use it after every session." Complying instantly, Owen spread his legs, reached back with one hand, and spread one of his cheeks so that Mateo could have the exact view he'd requested. Owen clenched his muscles. his hole puckering specifically for Mateo's viewing pleasure. "I never thought I would be, no...but if I'm being perfectly honest, the only reason I took a special interest in your performance in my class is that I find you so...offensively attractive. I always have." Owen admitted with a faux-shyness, doing all he could to play up his role. The way Owen ordered him made Mateo laugh, hand coming down in a sharp slap. "I don't think you're in any position to be making orders like that, professor. I'll be using this pretty ass of yours at my leisure - you'll have to wait patiently like the good slut you are," he growled. Mateo licked his lips at the sight of Owen's twitching hole, palming his erection through his jeans. "Offensively attractive? Is that why you started wearing those skintight pants? Thinking it would get you this?" He stepped closer, taking Owen's hand to press against his impressive bulge, letting the sub feel just how swollen his cock was in his jeans already. Owen jerked forward with a yelp when Mateo's hand came down harshly against his quickly reddening ass. The blonde let out a whine at Mateo's statement, desperation pouring out of him in every possible way. "Fair enough, Sir. I suppose I'll just have to go on being as distracting as I possibly can in the hopes that you'll wind up as impatient as I am." Owen smirked at Mateo's question, turning his head a bit to look back at the Dominant poised beautifully behind him. "Perhaps. Did it work?" Owen wagged his eyebrows playfully, a little bit of his own, flirty self coming through the facade of his role. At the feeling of Mateo's bulge, Owen gasped. "Oh my, god." Without hesitation, Owen squeezed back against Mateo's arousal, rubbing his thumb purposefully along the pronounced shaft. "You're so big, Sir. Is that all for me?" "Oh feel free to. It'll be fun to watch you keep yourself all needy - doing my job for me," he teased back. Mateo just rolled his eyes in response to the question, focused a bit more on those slim fingers groping at his package. The admiration might have been part of the role play, but the genuine want was obvious from the submissive. Smirking, he rocked his hips into the touch. "Right now it is, professor. Trouble is, I can't decide which hole it would look better in. This tight ass," he mused, thumb ghosting over Owen's rim. "Or your mouth with those perfect dick sucking lips wrapped around it. What do you think, professor? Think you've earned the taste of my cock yet?" he asked, grabbing one thick cheek hard, fingers digging in firmly enough to bruise. A desperate whine fell from Owen’s parted lips when Mateo thumbed over his hole, causing him to preen backward, searching for what he knew Mateo wouldn’t give him so easily. “Why decide at all, Sir? If you want both options, one after the other, I think we both know how capable you are of taking them.” Owen said cheekily, punctuating his comment with another squeeze against Mateo’s rock-hard, cruelly-clothed cock. “Mmf, Sir.” Owen moaned out, his legs shaking a bit in response to the way Mateo brutally gripped at his tight, little ass. The other was clearly intent on making sure Owen would be reminded of this scene for days to come, and the blonde honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Not there was a single thing that was forgettable about Mateo Lopez, anyway. “I’m compromising my integrity as an educator, Sir. Is t-that not enough to earn your cock?” Owen asked with a whine and an additional squeeze against Mateo’s bulge. Mateo: Owen's coy comment about his abilities earned him a playful smack. It seemed he would need a firm hand, if the way he reacted to the grip on his ass was any indication. He batted Owen's hand out of the way for a moment to lower the zipper on his jeans, giving his aching cock a bit of breathing room before guiding the sub's fingers back to continue touching him through the fabric of his underwear. "I don't know, professor, I think you compromised your integrity the moment you started wearing tight pants to catch my attention with this fuckable ass," he commented, sucking in a breath through his teeth as he jiggled the muscled flesh. "So I think I'm gonna need a little more convincing before I allow you to taste my cock." Owen couldn't help the momentary whimper that fell from his lips when Mateo batted his hand away. Luckily, it was replaced swiftly with an appreciative moan when his hand was brought back again, this time to splay itself over Mateo's cock that was covered by only a thin layer of fabric. Owen hummed at the warmth of it, squeezing at Mateo's thick member, slender fingers expertly working their way around the Dominant's shaft so that Owen was practically jerking the other off over the remaining garment. "Touche." Owen breathed out, his resolve crumbling pathetically in response to Mateo's comments. Wetting his lips, Owen turned his head again, giving Mateo his best pouty-puppy-dog-eye look. "Please, Sir - may I taste this thick cock of yours? I've wanted you for longer than I care to admit, and I need you in my mouth. I need you using me and making a mess of these lips you love so much. Please, please, I'll do anything for the chance to taste you, Sir." Owen begged unabashedly, propping his ass out purposefully against Mateo's firm grip. Owen's sweet need just made Mateo's cock twitch under his worshiping touches. Of course, he loved hearing the begging, but his own need was getting too great to ignore - and god, did those lips look delicious all wet and pouty. Letting go of his ass, he stepped up to the other side of the desk, taking Owen's chin in one hand while the other freed his dick. The Dom tapped the wet head against those lips, batting his mouth and cheeks almost playfully with his stiff member. "Anything, professor? God. You're making me want to fuck you in the middle of class so everyone knows what a needy slut you are for my cock." When Mateo stepped back, Owen almost whined at the absence of the Dom's hand against his ass - but before he knew it, Mateo was making his way around the desk and he knew that his begging had done the trick and he was about to get what they both definitely wanted. Turning his gaze up to meet Mateo's, Owen broke character a bit and gave him one of his sweet smiles, a needy gasp falling from his lips when the taller man took his chin in his hand, held him still and slapped that thick, hard cock against face. Owen couldn't help the giggle and desperate whine he gave in response before working to put himself back into his role. "Maybe that's my goal, Sir. Instead of teaching, maybe my lot in life is to simply be a desperate, needy slut for you and this perfect cock of yours..." Owen moaned out, his eyes honing in on the head of Mateo's cock as he spoke. "Besides, I'm sure that everyone already knows. Every time I stammer in class, it's because I'm looking at you...at the way you sit with your legs spread, not caring for a single thing I'm saying and putting the image of me in between those legs being put to use into my head. Anyone with eyes can tell I'm so desperate for you, Sir. That's why no one takes me seriously - and I don't blame them." Owen finished, turning his heady, lust-blown gaze up innocently at Mateo, parting his lips expectantly as he did so. The breaks in his role had Mateo fighting a grin. He cleared his throat, putting the smirk back on his lips, focusing on Owen as he whimpered and moaned for him. "Is that right, professor? You're nothing but a cock hungry slut, are you? Maybe next class I'll make you wear a vibrating plug for me - see how well you can keep a secret while you're fighting a boner the whole time," he teased gruffly. He took the invitation, flexing his hips to push his cock into Owen's mouth with a low groan. "This what you thought about during class?" he asked, voice a little breathless, his hips moving in little thrusts. As if on cue, Owen felt his own cock twitch against the desk at Mateo's words, his face flushing at the thought of wearing a plug that vibrated at Mateo's direction. He made the mental note to ask if they could actually do something like that at some point in the future. "Yes, Sir....I'm very quickly realizing that that's all I am. It's all I'm good for...in fact, I think you'll find that I'm very good for it by the time we're through here." Owen added with a wink before he happily took Mateo's cock with a delighted, pent-up groan. "Mmhmm." Owen agreed in a muffled voice, quickly setting to work getting Mateo's cock wet with his tongue before he started to suck as Mateo thrust into his all-too-willing mouth. One hand moved into blond hair, holding Owen's head firmly. "Oh I... certainly see that, professor," he growled out. Mateo started thrusting a little faster, liking how Owen's lips stretched wide around his cock, so eager so swallow him down like he was starving for more. Shifting back, he pulled out, slapping his wet cock against the blond's cheek again. "Think you can take all of me into your throat, boy?" Owen hummed appreciatively against Mateo’s cock when the other brought a strong hand into his hair, tugging at his locks and giving him yet another reminder of who was in charge - and that reminder went straight to Owen’s cock. As Mateo picked up the pace, Owen simply adjusted and matched it, expertly relaxing his throat and sucking in time with Mateo’s sharp, purposeful thrusts, all the while keeping his eyes trained upwards as best he could, salivating against Mateo’s shaft at the sight of the impossibly sexy Dominant looming beautifully over him. Owen gasped for air (not because he needed it, but more so because he knew Mateo would appreciate the notion of making Owen weak in that way.) The blonde submissive nodded eagerly at Mateo’s question, his lips already a little swollen - making for a pretty picture along with his flushed face. “I know I can, Sir,” Owen said, breathless yet confident through it all. That was definitely a nice picture. A needy boy, lips wet and swollen from sucking his cock, flushed and asking for his throat to be fucked. Mateo's smirk grew wider and he didn't bother saying anything else before pushing his cock back into Owen's mouth. Holding his hair again, he fucked smoothly between those soft lips, a growling moan rumbling deep in his throat. His eyes remained fixed on Owen's, watching them get wetter the deeper he thrust. "Fuck you look so pretty like this... so hungry for cock." Keeping his wide, blue eyes trained upward at the towering Dominant, Owen made a show out of moaning around Mateo’s cock as the other pumped himself into the blonde’s mouth. At Mateo’s comment, Owen boldly winked up at him, tightened his lips, and surged forward, his eyes fluttering to a close as Mateo’s cock hit the back of his throat. Owen gave a faint choking sound in response, but by inhaling deeply through his nose, he managed to keep his composure and deep-throat Mateo’s thick cock like a pro. Mateo: Ohhh now that was lovely. He tugged Owen's hair with a low groan, fucking his throat without restraint now that he'd proven he could take it. This boy was just made for cock, that much was obvious. And yet - this wasn't all he had planned. Not by a long shot. Keeping a grip on his hair, he pulled out of his mouth. "I think there's another hole that needs attention, isn't there, professor?" he growled, hand sliding down his back to deliver a firm spank to one thick cheek. It was a wonder any of the sounds Owen was making were even audible with the mouthful of cock he was currently occupied with. Still, at Mateo's question and the accompanying smack to his ass, Owen yelped out approvingly, straining to train his gaze upwards at the beautiful Dominant situated over him. He started to tear up, but he didn't let that deter him from gagging as prettily as he could around Mateo's length while managing to bounce his ass purposefully, hoping to spur Mateo on into taking him from that end, as well. Mateo stepped back, taking in the sight of the boy spread over the desk. "I think you like that idea, don't you? Such a cockslut," he said, shaking his head but obviously grinning. He stepped away for a moment, picking out a small bottle of lube from his bag before he returned, this time between Owen's thighs. "Now this is like something straight out of my daydreams... definitely a much better use of class time, thinking about fucking this tight little ass," he mused, one hand gripping Owen's cheek firmly while the other began to open him up with slick fingers. Owen panted as Mateo stepped back and nodded eagerly. “Oh god, I do, Sir. So, so much. I had no idea how desperate I was for cock until I saw you. It’s like...you woke something up in me. It’s all I can think about. I wanna worship your cock, your body, everything - I’m not just a cockslut, Sir...I think I’m just a slut.” It was the first time Owen had fell into that kind of humiliation with someone other than Sam since the mark-wide. He didn’t know he was ready for it, but based on how he was feeling now, he realized that he’d properly moved on. It was an encouraging feeling and it worked to positively fuel their scene that much more. Taking in a sharp breath at the feeling of Mateo’s lubricated fingers against his puckered hole, Owen moaned out with abandon. “Good thing that’s a fantasy that doesn’t have to stay retained to your imagination anymore, Sir. If you decide I’ve earned it, I’d happily let you take this tight little ass of mine whenever you damn well please…” Owen arched his back into Mateo’s rough, firm grip a wanton whine falling from his lips as he anticipated what was surely coming. Mateo: He let out another one of those low chuckles as he heard Owen ramble on, opening him up with one slick finger, then another, stretching his tight hole open, his thick cock resting against his belly and twitching with each naughty thing that spilled out of his swollen lips. "And if I wanted to do this in the middle of class, with everyone watching as I stretched open this tight little hole for my cock?" he asked, leaning over to bite at one of his thick cheeks playfully. Owen: “I’d…lose my job probably.” The sudden humor of their whole scenario struck him for a moment, bringing a smile to his features. If it wasn’t for the positively sinful way Mateo was working open his hole, he would’ve burst out laughing - but the stimulation there was more than enough to keep him focused and firmly rooted in their scene. “Also...I wouldn’t care, Sir. If you did this in a packed lecture hall, I’d only feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m good for...being a tight little hole for you to get off on.” "Now that's a good slut," he agreed. Mateo took a moment to slip on a condom, Owen's hole stretched and slick around his fingers, then shifted to press his aching length into the blonde. He let out a low groan, holding onto slim hips as he rocked his member deeper inside of him. "This what you been thinking about when you've been cramming your ass into those skintight pants?" After what felt like an eternity of anticipation, Owen finally let out a sigh at the feeling of Mateo’s heavy cock slapping against his stretched, lubricated little hole. An elated whine fell from the submissive’s parted lips at the unmistakable sensation of Mateo’s cock slowly but surely pushing through his entrance. “Oh, oh - yes, Sir. Every morning I think of ways to catch your eye...and I”m very glad my hard work has paid off. Very glad.” Owen said teasingly, arching his back and pushing back against Mateo with a desperate moan. “Fuck, Sir. You’re so big… Mmf, you fill me up so, so good.” Owen knew how to play this part so well - a needy little bottom - and Mateo was all too happy to indulge him. He wasn't gentle, snapping his hips in rough, deep thrusts, the sounds of their bodies slapping together obscene in the empty room. "Gonna - keep this hole full, slut, just like you need," he growled out. One hand moved from Owen's hip, grabbing the back of his tie and tugging gently, just enough to put pressure on the front of his throat. "Thank you, S--" Owen breathed out, the accompanying title getting cut off by the tie around his throat being tugged just firmly enough against his windpipe to send him to a whole other level of arousal. His cock twitched against his toned stomach in response and a harsh moan fell from his lips as Mateo started to pound into him. He'd done one breath-play scene before, and he absolutely adored it. They hadn't explicitly talked about incorporating that into this scene, but damn was Owen glad they were - even on a small scale. It only worked to make him feel that much more possessed at the moment. "Oh, please, please Sir -don't stop, fucking own my little hole." Owen had mentioned his penchant for breathplay before, which is why Mateo had him leave the tie on. He kept a hold of it, tugging every so often and relaxing, not wanting to push the boundaries of his limits too far."You give me permission like I needed to ask, boy," he teased breathlessly, thrusting even faster into the blond. "Fuck this hole feels good... want to feel it clench around me when you cum, slut," he growled out, shifting his hips slightly as he thrust in, trying to find the spot to make Owen scream for him. Owen would have responded with something equally teasing if he weren't being fucked senseless at the moment. He was typically very verbal when it came to sex, as Mateo had no doubt already discovered - but with the way the Dom was completely tearing him apart, all he could manage were the moans the spilled shamelessly from his lips. He felt the angle change and then he felt it. With the slightest movement, Mateo's cock was hammering right against his prostate, turning any lingering pain into unabashed pleasure. "Oh, god! Sir!" Owen yelled out, whining with utter abandon as Mateo pounded away. In an effort to pull his weight, Owen managed to clench back against Mateo's length just as he came slamming in, the taller man's balls slapping obscenely against Owen's toned thighs. Mateo: The way Owen's body clenched around his cock wrenched a strangled groan from the Dom, the hot, soft pressure feeling like heaven around his length. He let go of the tie, instead reaching under the sub to grab his cock, jerking him hard and fast, hungry for the blond's cries of release. "Come on, professor... scream my name so everyone knows who owns this hole," he growled out. Mateo didn’t let up, and Owen was happy for it. He certainly wasn’t kidding about that stringent work-out routine he maintained. Mateo’s stamina was clearly top-notch, and that was evidenced plainly by the way he pounded into Owen’s tight, desperate hole over and over again while still having the ability to form coherent, deliciously sexy orders. Yelping with each hard, merciless thrust, Owen did his best to comply. “Fuck, fuck, SIR!” He yelled, the guttural desperation in his voice reverberating off the walls of the empty classroom. “You own my hole, Sir! OH, fuck - it’s yours. All yours!” "Good boy," he panted out, hips and hand still working relentlessly over the sub underneath him. While he was aching to feel Owen lose it around him, Mateo couldn't help the way his hips stuttered, a loud groan falling from his lips as he came hard. The blond was just so deliciously tight... His hand faltered around Owen, still trying to move over his length even as he slumped over, breathing hard in the wake of his pleasure. "Fuck, boy... fuck, you're going to ruin me," he huffed, obviously amused. A small, barely noticeable smirk graced Owen's features. Despite the very obvious power dynamic between the two of them, a part of Owen truly reveled in the fact that he was able to milk Mateo's length the way he just did. However, that little victory was short-lived as mere moments later, with Mateo's firm body falling over his own back, Owen found his own release, clenching back against Mateo's cock as his body tensed and he let his well-earned orgasm take over for a few, sweet moments. Afterward. both reduced to panting, sweaty, blissed-out messes, Owen let out a breathless giggle. "I...I think we sorta ruined each other, Sir. Wow." Mateo gasped softly when he felt Owen's body clutching around his sensitive cock. He shifted to brace both hands on the desk as he caught his breath, brushing kisses to Owen's shoulders absently. A chuckle fell from his lips. "I think you're right about that, sweetheart. Shit," he breathed out through a smile. Carefully, he eased out of the sub, letting out a long breath. "How are you feeling?" Owen let out a gentle, lazy sigh as Mateo pulled out, his muscles contracting immediately against the almost offense absence of the Dom’s cock. Owen stayed still for a moment, smiling sheepishly to the side as the other pressed little kisses against his shoulder. “Oh, I’m...awesome. Totally exhausted, but I’m doing great. How about you, Sir?” Owen reached back and rubbed at Mateo’s hand, just taking a moment to enjoy the sweet intimacy and the way in contrasted so nicely from the previous intensity of their scene.
He chuckled again, slowly standing up, but keeping his clean hand on Owen's back. "About the same if I'm honest. More than ready for a shower, some food and some cuddle time. What do you think?' he said with a smile, helping the sub ease off of the desk to wrap him in his arms again. Mateo couldn't deny it - he did get extra clingy after scenes as well. Standing up slowly, his thighs still trembling slightly from the hard fucking he'd just been put through, Owen smiled at the taller man and happily fell in against his body, hugging himself tightly to the other as he nodded along with Mateo's suggestion. "I can't think of anything I'd rather do, Sir." Sighing happily, he nuzzled against the Dominant before speaking up again. "Thanks for such an amazing scene. I know it was for points and all, but I'd really like to do something like this with you again sometime." Owen said hopefully, propping his head up on Mateo's chest, beaming at the other affectionately. He liked how Owen melted into his arms, snuggling in like an affectionate puppy. Mateo smiled down at him, his clean hand coming up to cup the blond's cheek. "I think that could definitely be arranged, sweetheart. With or without roleplay, for sure." Leaning down, he brushed a kiss to full lips, sweet and gentle. "Do you need help getting dressed?" Owen leaned up and into the kiss cutely, a broad smile on his face when they pulled apart. "Good. Don't be surprised when I slide into your DM's before the week's up, 'cause I'm totes gonna hold you to that." The blonde squeezed himself in against Mateo's firm body once more before he stepped back and set about collecting his clothes. "I think I can manage, Sir!" He found his underwear and then his pants. He got into his underwear okay, but had to brace himself against Mateo's shoulder as he got into his pants. Before long, he was dressed again, albeit disheveled and messy-haired. "Alrighty. I'm all set to go." He announced cheerfully, reaching for Mateo's hand.

Bodyguard - Chapter Thirty-three “From coldness...”
Hello, I hope you’re all doing great. Here is chapter thirty-three of my story Bodyguard. I’m sorry by advance for the mistakes… English isn’t my first language and I do my best. Here is the link of the previous chapter: Click Here. I’m sorry for the slow update recently, tell me which days you want me to post a chapter.
I hope you will enjoy this chapter :) 💛
                                        –––––––––––––––––––––––
« Emerald domain »
These words stand out from a small sign at the edge of a path as I gradually decelerate the pace, our final destination very close. I feel Amelia’s little fingers against my belly slightly loosen. At the end of the journey, I had not felt the constant contact of her body behind me, as if she voluntarily maintained a certain distance. And she allowed herself, as we approached, to undo a little more the only contact that still bound us by the pressure of her hands. We drove well for more than five hours with a single break in the middle of the route at my initiative: she had not directly claimed that we should stop, always immersed in her bubble, not very receptive to my presence or my requests. During this break, she was silent, her shifty eyes: she had merely nodded to the few questions I had asked her, her face as stubborn as a doll of wax. I dreaded, even more, the days to come after this interlude: I did not know how I could handle the situation if she stayed in this attitude… Her behavior during the ceremony had made me hope she was ready to open up, to rest on me in this ordeal. But it was only a short-lived hope. I would have to redouble efforts and attention to try to make her react and get back on top. And in this area, I was going to have to improvise: I had learned how to handle hostage-taking, flying a helicopter or stitching up a wound in the middle of the desert… but my special forces training did not teach me how to make life worth living again to a woman who feels she has lost everything…
Daylight begins to dim on the landscape that unfolds before our eyes when I make a final turn… a landscape that is familiar to me but that I had not seen for five long years. I advance slowly on the last meters by resuming the measure of the image that is offered in front of me: a wooden chalet with shutters decorated with stars on the first floor, rising in front of an almost turquoise stretch of water… a small lake whose color had to inspire its name in the domain. Arrived a few meters from the chalet, I park the motorbike and actuates the crutch to stall the vehicle. Amelia comes off gently from me and I let her down first. I imitate her a few seconds later, watching her leave her crash helmet and immediately release her hair. I also remove the protective accessory around my head and put my crash helmet and hers on the motorbike. I look at Amelia briefly as she looks at the landscapes around us: but to my dismay, she sweeps the landscape with her eyes without the least sign of curiosity or pleasure… or would I miss this stealthy moment while I was getting off the bike?
.
Footsteps behind us come out of my questioning and I see a silhouette come forward leaving the house. A silhouette that is taking shape precisely through her steps to let me perceive a face that I know… who had aged but still had the same kindness and joie de vivre. - Owen… what a pleasure to see you… - Good evening Rosie, I answer, taking her in my arms. This tiny woman of about sixty years firmly squeezes me for a few seconds then observes me for a long time, passing my face in inspection then my outfit. - Always so beautiful… you remain the most beautiful babies even at your age. I smile at her remark that brings me back some memories of my past. - And you, you are always so lively and in great shape, it’s really nice to see… - But I should tick you off for waiting so long to come back here… I look down quickly before noticing the look of Rosie pointed to Amelia, who is positioned on the side, a spectator of our exchange. - Is this the lady you told me on the phone? - Yes, it’s her… Rosie, I introduce you to Amelia… I pause to prepare the presentation and install a new context, a new connection for the coming days. - And Amelia, I introduce you to Rosie, a longtime friend… of my parents… of my mom more precisely… and who helped me a lot at certain moments of my life… I meet Amelia’s eyes in which I detect for the first time in two days a brand of surprise… this calling « tu » surely took her by surprise, but in my new mission, I had to break down the barriers, the marks of distance… and whit respect to Rosie, Amelia was a friend, I should not at any time make her know the true identity of Amelia, her job, the reason for her presence because it would put Rosie in danger. I take my eyes off the singer and I notice that Rosie stares intently at her, in an attitude that challenges me and intrigues me. Feeling my gaze on her, she redirects her attention to me and I read in her eyes a hint of surprise and as a question that I can not translate directly. - Nice to meet you, Amelia… she declares after a few seconds. Amelia smiles weakly and Rosie kisses her with two big kisses on the cheek, and I look amused the scene including Amelia a little taken aback by the momentum of the spontaneity of Rosie. - Did you have a nice trip? Rosie asks me promptly. - Yes, no particular problems. - You always know the road, then, obviously… - Rosie… Apparently, my absence marked her strongly… even maybe hurt her. It’s true that the last time I came here to spend time here, Rosie had been of great help to me after a difficult ordeal. I had to be vigilant and not to offend her, I was a little ashamed of myself at this moment: my attitude of recent years seemed to me so ungrateful… not worthy of the support she gave me.
.
I can see Rosie scrutinize the motorbike and then Amelia and myself before taking the floor again. - You only have this backpack with you? She asks, pointing to the Eastpak bag still in place on Amelia’s shoulders. - Yes, I told you that we would come in « light » mode… - I didn’t think it was this level… fortunately, there are still some of your kinds of stuff that you had left during your last visits… and also stuffs of… Her voice stops in the middle of a sentence, but she gets up quickly. - But sweetie, it will take a walk to the market… in any case, I ventilated the house and put a little thing in order… and I did some basic shopping for tomorrow morning. - Thank you, Rosie, I’m sure it will be perfect. - We’ll see each other tomorrow in the morning… She walks away after a wave as she approaches her little red Hyundai parked nearby. I meet Amelia’s eyes before joining Rosie for a few moments. - Rosie… - Yes, Owen. - Thank you, really… and excuse me for this radio silence and lack of news… I was selfish and ungrateful. - Don’t worry, I know you’ve gone through difficult times, but promise me that you will not do that anymore for years to come… - Promised, Rosie… She smiles widely and then lets her gaze divert on Amelia behind us. - You didn’t tell me a lot about your friend? I remain silent for a few seconds, then decide to answer. - I bring her here because she has just experienced something very difficult… she lost her home… and a man who was very important to her… she needs calm, tranquility and I know this place can do wonders on tormented souls… - You didn’t tell me what she looked like… - I don’t have the habit of making an Identikit by phone, you know. - Yes, but in this case, you could have warned me. - Warn you? Would she have recognized Amelia? It seemed so unlikely to me… I knew that Rosie was a bit out of the world of showbiz, just like the majority of people in the region, more interested in the generous nature that surrounds them than in the glitz of the entertainment world. - Owen, don’t tell me you were not troubled the first time you met her? The first time you met her eyes? Rosie’s questions are noticeably disconcerting me, I could not see where she was going… and in parallel, the first moments shared with Amelia come back to mind, and it is true that from the beginning something had fascinated me… captivated in her… - The likeness struck me at first slight… I stare at Rosie as to discern on her face what she insinuates for several seconds. - I have the impression to see your mother… at 30… Her words echo in my head as my eyes find the image of Amelia a few steps from us. - The same blue eyes that seem to me to able to reveal a myriad of rich expressions. The same thin, mischievous face with fake little girl appearance that I could see behind the mask she’s wearing. And this silky and shiny hair, with similar light-brown highlights… I can see you playing with your mother’s hair when you were a baby, to wrap her locks around your little fingers… I listen to Rosie’s comments while observing Amelia and I understood for the first time where I got this fascinating fascination I felt for her… a slap that I take myself in the face… I was completely unaware of this similarity until today… but it’s as if I had always known deep within me, which had made me so quickly sensitive to this little woman, who touched me like no other in such a short time… no other except my mother. - And you didn’t hear her… - She sings? - Yes, she sings… with a voice as pure and sweet as Mom… I look away quickly, surprised by this admission that escapes me despite myself… this information that I spontaneously reveal to her as if it were stronger than me. I stare at Rosie again and distinguish her in front of me with a knowing and complicit smile on the lips. - I’ll leave you, I’ll come back tomorrow… - Thank you, Rosie, for everything… I give her a kiss and let her get into her car, making the last wave as she walks away and leaves the small domain. I turn around and walk towards Amelia a few steps away, the bag lying on the ground, her hair slightly swept by the evening breeze.
.
I get the crash helmets on the motorbike, by the way, stalling them under one of my arms and I take the backpack at Amelia’s foot from my other free hand. - We go in? She just nods and I lead her to the entrance of the house. I open the door and let her enter in first: I notice her hesitant walk almost reluctant to enter. She takes a turn on herself and then turns to me. - Can I know where we are? Her question troubles me, especially the slightly brutal tone she uses. - We are at Campbell River, in a locality a little back in the mountains… and… I don’t have time to finish my sentence and explain the context, the whole story of this place that she cuts me short directly. - And you decide to use « tu » with me now? - It’s… vis-a-vis to Rosie… but if it’s a problem… - For me, yes… - Ok, fine, excuse me… I am taken aback by her reaction, this refusal that she sends me to give up this use of vous, this constant mark of our professional relationship… a step that I wanted to symbolically make towards her, to show her that I was present if she needed me… beyond a contract of employment, beyond a role to be held in front of Rosie. I reply quickly, to change the subject and leave aside this unpleasant impression that wins me. - Do you want to eat something? To visit the house? - No, I’m tired, just show me where I can sleep. She specifies her need in a dry way, without looking at me and for the first words she gives me for long hours, I a mat least puzzled by her coldness. - Upstairs… I waved her down the stairs and she moves. I am a few steps behind her and arrived at the top of the steps, I waved her in the right. I then open a large room that Rosie has obviously taken care of. A very special room in this house that gives me a thrill by entering it again. Rosie refreshed it: a bouquet of flowers is placed on the coffee table, the bed is neatly made with cotton sheets with lace patterns and not the slightest trace of dust… A place that wakes up the past, which materializes an absence that surrounds me for so many years, but I close the door to memories as they try to interfere in my mind. - It will be your room… the bathroom is in front of the stairs, the first room in front of which we went. Rosie had to put all the necessary toiletries… I watch her as she sits on the bed and takes off her shoes. I remain motionless and silent in front of her a few moments, not knowing what to say or what to do. - You have… all you need? - One bed, that’s all I need… I understand the message that she sends me: my presence is not really tolerated anymore. I force myself to give her a slight smile not to show my confusion but I quickly leave the room closing the door behind me. I go down to the ground floor and put me on the sofa, facing the fireplace in the living room. I sigh for a long time, tired by these first minutes and slightly worried for the days to come. She seemed to have recovered the coldness and indifference she had shown right after the accident: her behavior in the church was definitely only temporary… and what troubles me, even more, is that coldness now mingles with her words, and it is almost more disturbing and violent for me than silence. I quickly feel the weight of the day and the journey to fall on my shoulders and weigh on my eyelids. Not perceiving any suspicious noise around me, I allow myself to close my eyes only a few minutes… to forget this indifference which hurts me.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Review
I thought Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom was very good, even if it didn't live up to the original Jurassic Park. Of course, JP is my favorite movie ever, so I've long since given up on expecting a movie in this franchise to top it. That said, despite lacking some gravitas and wonder (though I think the lack of both is on purpose), I enjoyed Fallen Kingdom a lot!
Full spoilers…
J.A. Bayona's direction was masterful, creating beautiful imagery through the use of shadows and light. I loved the look of this movie all around and dinosaur reveals in particular were outstanding: whether illuminated by lightning strikes, dripping lava, or fiery smoke, the cinematography made them into majestic animals with an air of fantasy to them; fitting since they don’t belong in the world anymore. The way many of the dinosaurs were shot was gorgeous and the mix of CGI and puppetry was seamless. Moving the action to a remote manor complete with its own mad science labs as well as shots of the Indoraptor in front of the full moon achieved a classic, iconic Universal Monsters feel I absolutely loved! The mix of bright color and deep, truly dark black was a great change from modern blockbusters' reliance on washed-out looks and helped to build the tension perfectly when combined with Bayona’s filming style. Filmmaking choices like the (seemingly?) one-take sinking of a GeoSphere vehicle also brought a thrilling and breathless sensibility to the action sequences. The T-Rex blood extraction scene was another great sequence that achieved a perfect balance of tension and comedy. When Bayona incorporated physical comedy into the action scenes, like a tranquilized Owen (Chris Pratt) trying to evade lava or Blue knowing to dive out of a room about to explode, it added to the fun, classic adventure vibe of the movie rather than wrecking the tone. The movie is self-aware enough to play a scene with Blue as an action hero yet still takes the proceedings seriously enough to create a real sense of danger, and Bayona walked that extremely tough line very well. He also managed to pull genuine emotion out of the dinosaurs’ plight as Isla Nublar succumbed to the previously dormant volcano at its center. I didn’t want to watch so many dinosaurs die and it was heartbreaking to see them drowning, but nothing prepared me for the lonely death of a brachiosaurus on a dock. Watching the animal, obscured by smoke and unable to get to the boats that narrowly escaped the island even as lava crept up behind her, was without a doubt the saddest moment in the entire franchise. I didn’t walk into the movie expecting to feel so strongly about a random dinosaur, but Bayona absolutely nailed that scene and it left a definite impact.
I really liked what the movie did with Owen and Blue’s relationship. It was cool to see their earliest moments together via video of their first training session and I liked that their bond was strong enough to bring Owen back to Isla Nublar despite what he'd been through and the imminent volcanic eruption at the island's core. Their relationship was very well-explored here and even though it ended tragically because of a double cross—Blue came to associate Owen with getting shot and put in a cage—I’m glad to have seen this phase of their relationship and I'm excited to see where it goes next. It’s a little weird that Blue has taken the raptors from the scariest villains of the franchise into half of the films’ most iconic and heroic dino duo (the other half being Rexy), but it’s a testament to the writers of this film and Jurassic World, Pratt, and Blue’s puppeteers that it totally works and I completely buy that the bond between Blue and Owen overcomes Blue’s instinct to eat people. It was also nice to see Owen’s familiarity with the other dinosaurs come in handy when he tricked one of them into helping him and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) escape from their own cage. Owen’s general demeanor throughout the movie was very entertaining and I’m interested to see how living in a world overrun by dinosaurs changes him. He can’t just run off to his remote cabin now; he actually has to deal with these animals out in the world.
I like Claire, but I wish she'd gotten more to do in this movie. She does spearhead the Dino rescue mission and convinces Owen to come back, but outside of providing the inspirational drive of the movie, she doesn't get to be very active. This worked in Jurassic World, where her arc took her from relying on (and obsessing over) control to embracing chaos by opening the T-Rex cage and allowing life to finally find a way, but here her relative inaction left me wanting more. I am glad she didn't stay down after her leg was injured in the climax and that she at least tried to take down the Indoraptor, but she didn’t feel like she had as much of an arc here. I think it’s interesting that her big moment in this film was a reversal of her choice in JW: she doesn’t open the door this time and is willing to let the dinos die to keep them from getting loose. She's apparently OK with life being free as long as it's free elsewhere (humans come first), and I hope this sticks with her as we go into the third film. Hopefully it'll bring about a more active Claire, whether she’s trying to make up for her choice by peacefully rounding up the dinos or something completely different. I liked that the movie’s villains tried to paint Claire and Owen as complicit in exploiting and domesticating the animals via Jurassic World as theme park attractions, but I wish our heroes had given at least some thought to how right they might’ve been. That was a good counter-argument to her seemingly totally altruistic turn towards conservatism and I wanted to see her deal with it. I feel like the writers, Howard, and Pratt crafted a perfectly contentious-yet-caring relationship between Owen and Claire that makes total sense as to why they’re not together anymore and provides fun beats like him saying it would be her fault if he died on Isla Nublar, yet never feels like they hate each other or are out to hurt one another. It also falls into the franchise’s history of relatively chaste romantic entanglements. I don’t know that I need them to end up together; I wouldn’t mind if they do, but wouldn’t be disappointed if they didn’t. That might seem like I’m not engaged in their connection, but the fact is I can see it going either way and am up for either.
Claire’s assistants, Franklin Webb (Justice Smith) and Zia Rodriguez (Danielle Pineda) were really likable and I hope they return in the next film. Even though they kinda disappear for segments of the movie's third act, it's easy to imagine they were having their own adventures and didn't just cease to exist until the script called for them to appear again. Webb especially seems like he had a hilarious series of misadventures undercover in various roles on the villains' ship and later in the lab. I loved how in over his head he was and Webb freaking out at everything never got old to me. I liked that Zia was always cool under pressure, though I do think they could've made a bigger deal out of her being a paleo-veterinarian who had never seen a living dinosaur before. Yes, Dinos have existed in this world for 25 years so there are probably extensive resources for her to study, but anything she's learned would still have to be theoretical or second-hand to her and they could've used that to increase the stakes and tension if things didn't go as smoothly on the operating table as she hoped. It also could've been dealt with as simply as her saying treating a living dinosaur was different than she'd imagined. This was a minor thing to me though and didn't hurt my enjoyment of the film or her character. I liked that they gave her a good moment of wonder when she finally did get to see a dinosaur for the first time; fittingly, the only character to express pure wonder over these animals at this point is the one whose job involves healing them. I'd like to see how she grows into an expert in her field with the world the movie ushers in.
I was sure the Maisie (Isabella Sermon) secret was that she was Ellie Satler, Sarah Harding, or maybe even Mrs. Kirby's daughter, all of which seemed like ridiculous and unnecessary callbacks to the franchise's previous entries. So, I was very glad she turned out to be what she was instead; that was a very cool twist that felt like a natural growth of this world’s science. I wonder if she has some dino DNA in her, given her somewhat enhanced speed and strength, good balance, and the very cool shot of the Indoraptor's face reflected over hers in a pane of glass. And she sees the dinos as being more like herself than the people in the world… Either way, letting the dinos free because they were like her was a good moment. I hope that if she does have Dino DNA in her, though, that this is the extent of what we get and not the militarized dinosaur soldiers that have been rumored over the years and pitched in JW. The franchise tie-in they did give Maisie—that she's related to John Hammond's silent ex-partner—worked very well. James Cromwell felt like a natural choice for someone who would've been a contemporary and associate of Hammond's and I liked what their falling out entailed. However, I thought Maisie’s nanny Iris (Geraldine Chaplin) insisting that she speak with an English accent was a bizarre choice. I wonder if it’s meant to be a subtle example of people trying to impose their will on nature, but if that’s the case, I would’ve liked a moment of Maisie choosing to defy that and speak with her natural accent. Regardless, I’m interested to see what role she has in the new world this movie leaves us with.
The Indoraptor was a cool, creepy monster. They upped the ante of smart Dinos nicely in that hybrid, with creepy moments like the Indoraptor smiling and playing with its prey. I also enjoyed the appearances of the mosasaurus and the new tradition of Rexy smashing the skeleton of the previous movie's "villain" dinosaur. I’ve seen it suggested online that the opening sequence of stealing the I-Rex bone is pointless because Rexy destroys it before Wu (BD Wong) can use it, but I don’t think that a subplot having an end—even if it’s not what the characters intended—is pointless. I also don’t have a problem with Wu needing the sample even though he created the I-Rex, another complaint I've seen online. He obviously left Jurassic World in a hurry, so it’s reasonable to assume he didn’t get to grab everything he needed and that he needed the finished I-Rex product, not just his notes on it.
Humanity's willingness to screw with, try to control, and make a profit off of nature has always been the real enemy in these films so it doesn't hurt the movie for me that (Wu aside) the human antagonists are fairly thinly drawn (though the actors played their parts well and the characters served their purposes). I did appreciate that Ted Levine’s Ken Wheatley had such character to him, even if he was an absolute idiot. What a big man, stealing teeth from animals that had already been caged! I was glad to see him go, but then we are supposed to be. The rest of the villains were a means to an end, caught up in distortions of nature brought on by other foolish men and/or their own greed and couldn't help but be destroyed by them. I think that's perfect, because the franchise is playing into exactly what Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) said Jurassic Park's original creators were trying to do: break barriers in science by standing on the shoulders of other geniuses without consideration for the cost or respect for the power they had, just to patent it, package it, and sell it. Much like Jurassic World played with the idea that dinosaurs are passé nowadays and they’d have to be genetically toyed with to continue being entertaining (like reigniting an old, classic franchise), Fallen Kingdom takes the wonder out of these animals and becomes a monster movie where the dinosaurs are literally auctioned off. The people controlling dinosaurs' fate have lost the wonder and respect for the forces they're manipulating and only see them as profit generators, never once considering whether they should see the dinosaurs as more. The sequel trilogy's story has become an exploration of the effects of the loss of wonder and respect for both the animals and the science that brought them back. Now that we've seen humans completely lose control, we're about to see humanity face the full force of nature snapping back and I can’t wait! Dinosaurs don’t respect, fear, or have any reverent wonder for humans either… Perhaps the final chapter will see the surviving humans finally relearn that respect and reverence for nature; hopefully they’ll do it before we go extinct (or maybe Satler was right all along and women will inherit the Earth after the dinosaurs eat all these foolish, greedy men).
I loved the debate over saving or letting the dinos die on Isla Nublar and it makes total sense Malcolm came down on the side that he has since the first film: the dinos shouldn’t be here and if nature is going to take them out again so be it. I wish we’d seen more of Malcolm, but this was a great use of his character. I’d love it if the next movie brought back not just Goldblum in an expanded role, but reunited several of the previous characters now that the world is completely different. Alan Grant, Ellie Satler, and Sarah Harding are all specialists that could find new lives in a Jurassic World. Maybe the resourceful kids we’ve seen over the course of the franchise—Lex, Tim, Kelly, and Eric—have grown up to become dinosaur experts themselves. Lex and Tim could become the true heirs of Hammond’s legacy; I liked that this film remembered that Hammond developed into a conservationist in The Lost World after the first Jurassic World only focused on his earlier “spared no expense” philosophy, and Lex & Tim could be instrumental in embodying that development. Of course there’s one character who’s persisted since the first film—Dr. Wu—and I can’t wait to see where the end of this trilogy takes him. He works for me as a modern mad scientist and if he does just want to see what he can do (while blaming his employers when things go wrong) that’s fine by me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to learning more of his story (as I’ve seen others requesting online). Whatever they do with Wu, I don’t think he should get eaten by a dinosaur, at least not until he’s had a final confrontation with Ian. They butted heads in the first film and it would be especially fitting if out of all the characters, Malcolm was the one to face him down again. Seeing the two of them face off one last time would be a very cool culmination of the saga and close to the franchise (or at least this chapter of it).
I like that the Jurassic franchise is old-fashioned in that it hasn’t tried to build an expansive universe that’s building to some enormous and unwieldy climax, but has hit on the same themes of family, scientific and environmental responsibility, nature vs. science, and chaos vs. control in different scenarios. It’s true that there have been some repeated themes—a park with dinosaurs, a fight to save the dinosaurs, a horror show trying to survive the dinosaurs—but I have liked all the movies to varying degrees and this was no exception. I thought the callbacks to earlier films were well-placed without feeling repetitive or overdone. While the first World captured nostalgia for the first film via the idea of the theme park and this one did feel similar to The Lost World, I greatly preferred this one's mainland events to the previous film's. I never disliked the T-Rex getting loose in San Diego and still think it's a fun sequence, but the turn towards horror in this film is better IMO. Additionally, the ending is very promising. With the dinosaurs finally free and roaming the world, it seems like the franchise is headed in a truly original and fresh direction that I’m very excited to see! How humanity interacts with these animals is a fascinating prospect and I’m thrilled to see the movies going there. I’m really excited to see the world this movie has set up! Even if this generation of free dinos is captured or naturally dies out, the science is finally out there and there will be no stopping the various shadowy organizations from producing further dinos…or doing something totally original. Plus, they can always go to Isla Sorna and pick up the Site B dinos if they need to bring more adults onto the mainland; that island was mentioned here, but it seemed unclear as to whether Nublar’s volcano was going to destroy both islands or not. Either way, seeing dinosaurs interacting with modern civilization wasn’t anything new (even just in terms of this franchise), but it still left me anticipating the possibilities of what the world will look like when we revisit it in Jurassic World 3 (they totally could’ve included the post-credit scene in the ending montage, though; why save it?). The idea of using dinosaurs for the military is kinda silly in this day and age IMO, so I’m glad we still haven’t seen it happen and I hope we don’t. Dinos implemented by private loons and organizations for defense might be something worth touching on, but even these animals seem so low-tech compared to modern warfare that it has never seemed worth the trouble. I'd much rather see dinosaurs presented as an invasive species no one can contain.
Fallen Kingdom is a thrilling, fun monster movie that sends this franchise into completely new territory by the end! I think it’s an improvement on Jurassic World and definitely worth seeing. It’ll be on home video in a couple of weeks and I've already pre-ordered it. Check it out!

Spoilers Below
Loki Season One, created by Michael Waldron, forms a fantastical, playful, and epic story about Loki’s journey to self-acceptance. If you are a fan of the character Loki, time travel, or Lynchian television shows, it’s a must-watch.
The mise-en-scene of The Time Variance Authority(TVA) headquarters builds a surreal bureaucratic old-fashioned vibe that penetrates throughout the first season. Loki’s character starts as an arrogant god full of low self-esteem, but, in the end, he finds true self-love.
The TVA
My first problem with the show was that the TVA was an ominous organization from the very beginning, so there is never any suspense. So when the viewer learns that Sylvie was an innocent child when the TVA first tried to “prune” her, it’s not shocking. An organization that “prunes” humans for just stepping off the “sacred timeline” – they’re never the good guys.
Second, there is a significant religious aspect to the TVA. The Time-Keepers are treated like gods who their employees worship. The employees believe that their three Time-Keepers created them after saving the world. If forming “the sacred timeline” is not god-like, I don’t know what is, along with the fact that the phrase itself screams religion.
Thirdly nobody is allowed to question anything within the TVA. Renslayer refuses to explain how Hunter C-20 went downhill so fast. Since everything is shrouded in mystery Agent Mobius is the only fully developed and likable character partly because folksy actor Owen Wilson portrays him.
The Look and Feel
The look and style of Loki Season One help build the surreal bureaucratic world of the sacred timeline. The out-of-time design of TVA headquarters harkens back to early video recording technology. The lobby and all the other rooms in the headquarters have a colorful 80’s corporate vibe with these supremely old-fashioned-looking computers and equipment. The Miss Minute “employee training” style videos look straight out of the 1950s. At the same time, all of the TVA worker’s uniforms, technology, and the city in the middle of the headquarters look futuristic.
The bureaucratic nature of the TVA is further highlighted in the second episode, “The Variant,” when Loki gets bored after reading endless files about how Sylvie kills. He proceeds to walk over to the corporate librarian’s desk. Unfortunately, the regulations are so strict that the librarian won’t even speak to Loki until he rings the bell and almost all the files he wants are classified.
Tom Hiddleson’s Loki
Loki navigates a hero’s journey in this Multiverse epic world. Tom Hiddleston brilliantly embodies the character he has now played for ten years, and he continues to bring a playful lightness to this villainous role – all through a mischievous smile and a glint in his eyes.
In this series, he portrays real depth in Loki’s emotions that we have only seen sparks of in past movies. Starting in the pilot, the God of Mischief’s arrogance is in full display, but it’s apparent that he considers himself toxic. Mobius tells Loki how, through the God of Mischief’s orders, Dark Elves killed his adopted mother, Frigga, in Thor: The Dark World. After breaking through self-denial, Loki is horrified as he realizes that in the future, he will cause the death of his unconditionally loving mother, who he adored.
Loki continues to grow emotionally in the episode” Lamentis.” The audience learns that loving Frigga taught Loki magic and that she used to conjure fireworks over the water for him. Young Loki didn’t believe he would ever create magic, but Frigga thought he could do anything.
The God of Mischief’s confidence comes from having a parent who valued his uniqueness. Loki has a heartbroken expression when he talks to Sylvie about how his mother was a decent person. In an especially expressionistic moment, Loki’s grief is expressed through a drunken fireworks display.
Loki’s Growth
By spending time with Sylvie and his other Variants, Loki grows his self-esteem. One of the fundamental reasons that Loki commits criminal acts is because he believes that he is not worthy of true companionship or love.
In “Journey into the Mind,” Classic Loki risks his life by building a massive illusion of Asgard’s city to fool Alioth into eating it instead of attacking Loki and Sylvie. After seeing the older Variant’s power, Loki comments,” I think we’re stronger than we realize.” All the Lokis, while different, are, in many ways, the same.
Classic’s self-sacrifice for his new friends teaches Loki that he can bond with others and risk his life for the greater good. He is self-sabotaging and starts to heal by dealing with his grief.
In the finale “For All Times, Always,” Loki demonstrates true self-love and growth when he tries to stop Sylvie from killing “He Who Remains.” Unlike Sylvie, Loki’s heart is no longer full of the need for revenge or power. Loki loves Sylvie, which means now he loves himself too. He no longer wants to rule the world. Instead, Loki wants to take care of Sylvie. Sadly, Sylvie kissing Loki doesn’t mean she has transcended her anger. Rather, the kiss represents her saying goodbye to Loki before killing “He Who Remains.”

The Spring 2022 Menswear season was one of the strongest in recent memory. Taking place between Milan and Paris, the seasonal shows concluded within roughly 15 days. Exhibiting a sense of optimism,  designers who chose to show their Spring-Summer sets during the traditional calendar season carried the burning fashion torch onward with an attitude ripe for surprise and enjoyment. Though the venture took place alongside the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, attention to the viral disease was ignored as a focus on dressing for a less constrained future took place over the fear and anguish delt to society over the last 18 months. This summer saw beachside havens, quiet metropolitan stages, and city landscapes used as the perfect backdrop for which many a  lively fashion film and few in-person events took place. The minimal scenes and airy atmospheres reflect comfort and promise that simpler times are indeed ahead. Timelessness and modernity were abandoned as themes of exuberance and living in the moment represented a transformation to showcasing personality. Both time and fashion must move forward. Those involved in leading the art post-Covid did so with fervor and an opportunistic sensibility. This season’s most popular trends are appreciating the natural body, unfettered suiting, and animated colorways. For styles, a revival of streetwear, upscale take on workwear, and exploration of Western wear transpired neatly. Expect next year’s Spring Summer styles to be full of life, adventure, and a new appreciation for the undomesticated world ahead.
TRENDS
The overarching trend of Spring-Summer 2022 was a shift to embracing the natural. Displaying a sense of confidence and vitality, menswear designers across Western Europe tapped into the zeitgeist’s desires to show themselves unabashedly. Strutting alongside a utopian- or dystopian in the case of Rick Owens- beach, owning and touting the body with all its flaws and glory was the focus as fashion seeks to define appeal and sensuality for the present-day man. Going to great lengths to reveal the chest, shoulders, back, and legs, designers from the Prada duo to Rick Owens boasted their models' agile bodies by highlighting the male figure in all its beauty. Raf and Miuccia underwent an exploration of a new identity for their Prada man with light rompers and revealing skorts, while Rick Owens kept to his unisex aesthetic with an organic strategy centered on soft lace tank tops. Stepping outside their full-throttle sex-appeal image for just a second, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce took to show a subtler side of their brand with a mesh top embroidered with colorful jewels. For his Y/Project presentation, Glenn Martens handy patterns crept into a realm of versatility. Allowing wearers to transform their garments, wool knits included a neckline full of twisted and braided straps that revealed the upper chest and traps seductively. Riccardo Tisci exalted the macho-man through the use of sleeveless gaberdine wool trench vests, as Matthew Williams elected to counter such aggression with lean, slim trousers. For Fendi, Kim Jones highlighted the waist with cropped blazers that New York’s Peter Do would snatch up in a second. Designers want the men of the future to feel comfortable in their skin. Independent of styles that showed restraint, those leading life in such pieces post-lockdown will feel free and jubilant knowing their willingness to escape conventional male dress codes has finally transpired and been accepted.
Breathable, composed suiting is the tailoring of the moment. No excess padding, dramatic variations, or elongated shapes. Instead, ideas played into the ongoing wait-and-see narrative plaguing society at large. In the meantime, as life returns to some level of normalcy, baggy trousers and shapeless jackets offer some reprieve to the lived-in t-shirt and sweatpant pandemic uniform. Prada’s blazers were cut casually with wide sleeves and a slight slope of the shoulder. Bruno’s taste for Lanvin dipped into an oversized look complete with rounded shoulders. His wide notch lapels encouraged an image of 1980’s suiting, as did the jackets mid-thigh cut. Christophe Lemaire and Sarah Lin Tran added to the style with variations that hung loose and away from the body. Shown in an empty carnival at night, Alexandre Mattiussi’s kept to the trend of the oversized suit by including sleeves that extended well past the wrist bone. Dior Men’s Kim Jones and the Meier’s for Jil Sander showed classic styles that were long and representative of a double-breasted fold. Lose and flowing trousers continue to remain in vogue, though the elastic waistband is finally meeting its end. A constant dating back three seasons now, this loose cut of pants is continuing to show a presence. Distancing themselves from any notion of the slim-cut pant, both Lemaire and The Row- in typical fashion- provided a most appealing version with trousers that were wide around the hip yet tapered in at the ankle. Keeping to this shape though done in a less intense version was Véronique Nichanian’s variant styled with a rolled cuff as to show a casual demeanor. The hybrid suite has long been a topic for discussion since the onset of the pandemic. Those looking to abandon the ship of suits once and for all may after all be brought back into exploring the toned-down variations of the season. Cut with an essential purpose and with movement in mind, the non-confirming suit is a trend that will undoubtedly cement itself in menswear for decades to come.
The color scheme most representative of Spring-Summer 2022 is enthused vibrancy. For the moment, minimalism has no place in fashion post-Covid. After months, now bordering years, of isolation and staring at the same grey and beige curtains, colorists are being celebrated by those trapped inside for their approach to redefining life as a place where joy will flourish. Best showcased by Jonathan Anderson's appreciation for the pop of color- bright red, ultramarine blue, and bubble-gum pink- the British designer alleviated boredom with hues that are reminiscent of childhood bliss. Jeremy Scott’s sequined Canadian tuxedo was done in a shiny blue that will be perfect for any Studio 54 disco-themed party. For a more traditional offer, Walter Van Beirendonck opened his collection with three single-breasted suits done up in bright, lush hues of orange, pink, and green. Jil Sander continued the use of the monochromatic with a green trouser and jacket combination. Diversifying their offering with playful separates took shape with a color-blocked jumper, a red, turquoise, white, and black prints played second fiddle to an eclectic silk yellow foulard- maybe Luke and Lucie Meier are colorists after all!  Dries Van Noten continued on the usage of color blocking with typography set in tones of faded yellow, burgundy, and blue as shown in his opening long parka look. Infusions of neon orange and green in sporty jackets added to Noten’s energy. In total, much of the tones found throughout the season harken a mood similar to that of the 1960s London “Youth Quake”. One could easily picture teens across London’s hip Chelsea neighborhood flaunting such outrageously fun styles. As was the mindset back then, these respective color patterns will help consumers express themselves as individuality will continue to hold relevance come Springtime next year.
STYLES
Beginning around 2005 and lasting until 2017, a new type of sportswear was widely adopted and offered as an alternative mode of dress that captured a wide demographic across cities from Moscow to Los Angeles. Oversized t-shirts, high-top sneakers, icon-riddled hoodies, and distressed trousers provided a way for cities youth to embrace a concept of nonconformity. Rising from the previous hip-hop, punk, and rock-and-roll eras of fashion, the gritty, new silhouettes and flashy outfits of urbanites seeped far enough into the mainstream to welcome a contemporary statement known officially as Streetwear. Hood by Air’s Shayne Oliver, Alyx creative director Matthew Williams, and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh played crucial roles in established this scene with offerings that accompanied a combined aesthetic of athleisure and skate-wear. Over the past few years, this style of representation has declined dramatically as the consumer's age and taste grew up all in the same. Such the novel concept of getting dressed up by dressing down introduced the idea of risk-taking to the menswear market that paved a path for a more pertinent display of rebellion. The return and reflection of how to reintroduce and revamp streetwear heading into 2022 was a task undertaken by the most seasoned designers throughout Paris and Milan.
The ease and comfortability factor of the style made a strong case for even some of the most outlandish streetwear variations this Summer.  With lockdowns ending, such a need to define a new look has come as the desire to dress up is equally matched with a proposal to remain dressed down. Virgil Abloh paired his recent menswear endeavor with another collaboration with Nike and his label Off-White. Low-top Air Force 1’s had a makeover as the monogrammed LV logo wrapped around the sneaker's leather exterior. Continuing to embrace his now-iconic concept of scribbling descriptors on products, the terms “Lacet” and “AIR” were printed on his new Louis trainers. The yellow, green, and blue kicks come just months after the designer recently announced his “Dear Summer” project with the American sportswear giant Nike.  A confidant and dear friend of Abloh, Kim Jones furthered the re-emerged streetwear style with his Dior Menswear campaign. A joint effort with Houston rapper Travis Scott, Jones and his musical muse fermented on a plan to coincide formal tailoring with graphic, original sketches from the rapper. The work, more doodle’s than fine art, was felt most in a paint-splattered t-shirt whose broad and slightly cropped cut allows for ease of layering. No stranger to the street movement of the mid-2000s, Riccardo Tisci insisted upon adding to the democratic scheme with his Burberry set. Large and in charge, XL tops with prints representing that of a conceptual camouflage will do anything but hide the wearer. Wrestler-inspired high tops sneakers and bondage trousers completed a new city uniform and should they be adopted by Londonite’s, will help to re-establish the Italian as a leading figure in the movement that he helped define decades ago. Opposed to delivering the tacky, overpriced pieces that contributed to the decline of streetwear in the first place, such improvised, practical ideas will aid in the resurrection of the movement in which teens and young adults will find hard to resist.
With a constant presence across runways every season, workwear products have provided a foundation for menswear designers to build upon dating back decades. Dickie’s overalls, Levi’s 501 jeans, and Martin Margiela’s tabi boots all evolved from the practical functionalities of such historic designs. Utilizing a contemporary vision, textile’s and authentic versions of such hard-scrabbled attire met a softer, fashion-forward interpretation that saw a deeper dive into the meaning of labor-intensive products unfold. Martin Rose, Thebetsile Magugu, and Glenn Martens advanced into an aesthetic of up-scale workwear with their modernized versions of double-knee trousers. Neil Barrett’s pocket-laden jackets will have any fashionable carpenter vying to get their weathered hands on such a useful piece. Virgil Abloh’s PVC jacket and trousers would be a pleasant surprise for Niagara Falls attendants braving the wet majestic mist, though his colorful hockey gloves may suit Canada’s Winter Olympic team more realistically come the 2022 Winter Olympics. Études creative directors and founders Aurélien Arbet, Jérémie Egry, and José Lamali take care of the truckers across major highways with tailored denim trucker jackets that would be digested by even the most unfashionable journeymen. As the world prepares to once again begin the foray back into the office, designers made sure to represent the pride behind the many blue-collar industries that supported the masses during the most intense moments of the pandemic.
Back in the 19th century when cowboys tended to buffalos and wrangled with outlaws in taverns, little did they know just how great of an influence their appearance would have on high fashion nearly two centuries later. Somewhat mythological, these figures represented a time when the United States was undergoing an expansion to the western part of the country that with it brought a whole new look seen through pointy heels, fringed jackets, and loose cotton shirts. The idea that the proverbial lone-wolf traveled on horseback with leather trousers and rhinestone vests is merely a falsity brought on by exited film directors and their inaccurate depictions of history as shown in the 1960s Spaghetti Western movie craze. Thanks to admirers of this lifestyle like Ralph Lauren, the freedom and rugged aesthetic of the cowboy has long been altered to fit a stereotypical metropolitan look supported with calf-high cowboy boots, cow print trousers, and of course, the suede fringed jacket that has gone on to become an easily identifiable staple of any western-loving fashionista’s wardrobe. Drawing a line between escapism and utility, many provided an updated product to accompany the restart of normal life. In many ways, venturing into the post-COVID world mirrors the undertaking of the first pioneers who ventured into the vast wilderness unaware of the challenges and beauty that would accompany the journey. The American western style is back in fashion. Enticing versions of the classic silhouettes and the introduction of more abstract takes define a new period of what it means to be a present-day pioneer.
Dwindled to just two of the four fashion capital cities holding a menswear week, the allotted period felt much shorter than years past. Concluding just a week before the Haute Couture presentations were shown in Paris, those who went on to exhibit and introduce their concepts for the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons did so with an ambitious mindset that allowed for many a rememberable moment. Of such trends and styles, breaking conventionality with exposing the natural body took home the grand prize for daring to reveal the pure human form. Cropped blazers, shorter cuts, and tangible lines introduced a sense of rawness and visibility to how men will and should dress next year. Much in the same way was the soft tailoring that arrived alongside this rise to escaping conformity. Curved trousers, natural shoulders, and oversized jackets avoid restriction and allow for a taste of freedom. Inspiring and spirited, the mod color pallets of the season play their part in exercising the ability for consumers to dream of an easier, joyous life ahead. As far as styles go, the updated streetwear takes, luxury utilitarian forms, and re-imagined western apparel and accessories are set to provide wearers with fashionable looks that will accompany their expeditions from their 300 square foot apartments back into civilization. Menswear is currently one of the fastest-growing and most-watched markets in the scope of the fashion industry. These Spring-Summer 2022 trends and styles will ensure this growth remains constant.

Lighting A Fire
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You sat on the trunk of Owen’s car with one foot resting on the bumper while the other hung loosely. Everyone was having a good time drinking and hanging out in a random parking lot.
Not being much of a drinker you felt left out whenever they had fun like this. Your body actually had an allergic reaction to alcohol. Whenever you drank it your throat would swell as a rash broke out on your chest. That was motivation enough to keep away from that stuff but you did have another vice, smoking.
Reaching into the pocket of your camo green bomber jacket you pulled out a carton of Marlboros. Realizing you had no lighter didn’t stop you from tapping a stick out of the box and placing it on your lips to hold while you put the rest away. Reaching over you tapped the only other girl present. “DJ girl, you got a light?”
Flojee was surprised you talked to her. She didn't know you very well since you were a rare member of the group. You weren’t in the music industry but you were in the streetwear scene. “No, I don’t. Hyeunwoong will have one.”
“Who?”
“Hyeunwoong” she pointed at Bloo.
“Oh, Daniel.” You only knew him by his English name since it was the easiest and also was the name Owen used to introduce him to you. “Thanks, I’ll go ask him.” Jumping off the trunk you landed on the concrete and walked over to the other side of the circle where Bloo was.
As Bloo talked to Nafla you spotted the smoke in between his fingers which got your hopes up. “Sorry to interrupt but you got a lighter?”
“All out.” Bloo struck his lighter twice in an attempt to get it to work but not even a small spark appeared.
You sighed, “Just my luck. Guess I’ll go get one at the convenience store.” You spoke in a low voice making it more of an auditory note for yourself. You placed your cigarette behind your ear and turned your back to them to leave. Only taking a few steps before Nafla stopped you. “Hey, you going alone?”
“I’m a big girl” you sassily replied. “Just make sure Owen doesn’t leave me.” You saluted him with two fingers swiping away from your forehead.
When Nafla turned his attention back to Daniel he caught him looking in your direction. Normally he wouldn't think much of it, just like him he was watching you off. The difference here was that Bloo’s head was tilted, a telltale sign that he was checking you out. “Like what you see?”
Bloo shrugged, “What am I seeing?”
“A pretty girl, pretty legs, pretty face?” Nafla taunted. “Which is it? Judging by the way you were tilting your head though… I'm guessing her ass is what caught your attention.”
Bloo shook his head. “I was just wondering if I should go with her and get a lighter too.”
Arriving at the convenience store you smiled at the cashier who was working the graveyard shift. You immediately walked to the back wall lined with refrigerated drinks. Deciding it would be best to buy the sports drink Owen would need for his hangover recovery later on while you were there. On your way back to the front you heard the loud chime of the door, indicating another customer had arrived. “Did you come for a lighter?” you asked Daniel with an amused smile.
“Yeah.”
“You didn’t have to come. I was gonna get you one too.” Being the thoughtful person that you were, you placed the two lighters and sports drink on the counter and paid for them.
“Here,” you handed one to Bloo.
“Thanks” he received it with an amused smile. He didn't know you very well, or at all. He simply knew your name and that you were friends with Owen through your older brother.
Once outside the convenience store, you placed your cigarette on your lips to light but Bloo took care of it for you. After the first exhale of smoke you thanked him and began walking back with him.
The walk was silent but not uncomfortable. When you got back to the others you split from Bloo and went back to your original spot without another word.
Bloo caught himself glancing over at you more often than he cared to admit that night. He thought perhaps he had fallen in love.
The next time he saw you was when you followed Owen to the Mkit Rain studio. He had work to do and you didn’t know anyone else in the city besides him so you decided to go along.
“You can stay there where Daniel is.” Owen pointed over to the area where Bloo was lounging around unaware of your presence. He didn’t have to do anything but had come along nonetheless.
“Alright” you nodded in agreement.
“Hey guys I brought the brat along but she’ll sit silently in a corner.” Owen greeted Loopy first who only laughed at his comment.
“Brat?!” You scoffed hearing him even though he had walked over to the other side of the room, “I am an adult.” To Owen, you were always that little girl who followed her brother everywhere and told on them when they did something bad. You stuck your tongue out at him contradicting yourself and making them laugh.
This was when Bloo looked up from his phone and saw you walking over to him. The white hoodie and shorts combo was a very big difference from the outfit he had seen you in before. You looked almost angelic with the bright white against your skin. The only dark item was your fishnet stockings that still let him get a pretty good view of your legs. It showed you could pull off anything.
“Hey” you casually greeted him before sitting on the couch opposite of him, You made yourself at home, even putting your legs up on the black leather couch and really relaxing into it. “What you up to?”
Bloo pointed at his phone. “I’m going to go live.”
“Instagram?” you asked.
Bloo nodded.
“Cool, I’ve never done one of those.” You pulled your own phone out and opened the Instagram app. You had a decent following and had wanted to do a live session before but never got the guts to do it. “What do you usually do?”
If you were asking him Bloo knew it was safe to assume you had never seen any of his. “Nothing special, just what I’m doing now.”
“Really, and people watch?”
“Yeah. Want to do it together?” He wasn’t sure how it would work out but it gave him a chance to see what that feeling in his chest was all about.
“What?” You thought he was joking but when he didn’t retract the offer you got up. “Okay, sure” you sat down beside him feeling nervous all of a sudden. “Wait. How’s my face?”
Bloo cracked a smile as he was given the opportunity to openly stare at you. This was when he got to observe every feature of yours. The curve of your lips, the color of your eyes, and even the length of your lashes. “You look good.”
His answer satisfied you more than it should have. “Thanks” you smiled brightly as if he had just hit on you.
“What about me?”
Your breath hitched as the roles were reversed and you found yourself literally checking Bloo out. For the first time, you thought to yourself and even said it out loud to him, “You’re very handsome.”
Bloo blushed at the unexpected answer. Even tilting his head back in laughter. “that’s a bit much but thanks.”
“It’s true,” you assured him. “You’ve got the looks, the voice, and the fashion. You’re a handsome guy.” You were always very blunt so you thought nothing of commenting on his looks. As you did you realized you had started to grow a crush.
Bloo Oppa what is your ideal type?
“Her” he pointed to you catching you and his fans off guard.
You covered your face with the sleeves of your hoodie as you laughed off the embarrassment. “Stop playing around.” You nudged him. “I’ve only known him for two weeks so relax” your comment was aimed at his fans who started asking if you were his girlfriend.
How do you know him?
Aren’t you Y/N the fashion blogger?
“I am” you responded. “Thank you for noticing me and I know Daniel because I know Owen and I know Owen because he was my brother’s classmate.”
What is Y/N’s ideal type?
“Him” you wrapped your arms around Bloo’s neck and even leaned your head against his in a loving way that had the comments coming in faster than you could read them.
Bloo’s heart raced with the interaction. He wasn’t even paying attention to the fans, only you.
You pulled away laughing, “Yall need to chill.”
It was clear none of the negativity got to you. You brushed it off and continued to sit close beside him as the normal fans took it all in good nature allowing the live to go on and end smoothly.
“That was fun,” you told Bloo as you went outside the building to smoke together. He lit your cigarette for you before lighting his own. He was still taken aback by your actions. “We should do it again sometime.”
“I’ll do it again with you.” Bloo nodded. “Will I get something more than a hug next time?”
“What more do you want?” Your chest tightened as your mind went to some rated thoughts. Mentally scolding yourself for even thinking something like that would happen with Bloo. You took a long inhale of the cigarette.
“A kiss for starters, then from there we’ll see.”
You coughed, exhaling the smoke violently from the surprising answer, rather than the usual smooth flow. “What? Do you want me to kiss you?”
He nodded.
You weren’t against kissing him now that you were harboring a crush on him. “Sure, I’ll give you a kiss.” You dropped your cigarette on the ground and stepped on it to put it out.
“Really?” Bloo closed the gap between you.
“Yeah, why not?” You placed your hands on his shoulders, staring him down to see if he was serious about this. Bloo’s response was to place his hands on your hips and claim your lips as his. The kiss was long and deep. The long exhale you gave when parting satisfied him.
Both of you were silently staring down one another until you couldn’t take it anymore and broke the silence. “Now what?”
“Want to go out with me?”
“Okay.”
-end-
A/N: Confession, I don’t really know how a normal relationship develops. I didn’t start dating till I was 19 and I just went straight to online dating because I’m weird like that. So this is my best guess.
