There’s a thought stirring in Bridge’s mind. Yes. Yes, she knows, she is aware of her burning curiosity. And it’s hard to deny that even though it doesn’t involve her, she is unusually intrigued by the concept. She overheard them in his office, Miguel and LYLA–his A.I. assistant–discussing a plan.  A plan to create a physical form for LYLA to enhance her abilities as his assistant and grant her further autonomy beyond her access to the security network and other adjacent systems alongside her recent emergence into emotional intelligence. It was all so fascinating. The steps Bridge had taken herself in her development in the span of weeks, she was watching unfold in another intelligence in real-time.

There it was again. That sense of solidarity in knowing she wasn’t completely alone in her existence as an artificial being, made of code and metal. It was like a magnetic pull that made that little voice in her head that encouraged her to act on her wants all the more present in her mind. She wanted to be a part of that process that she’d been through so long ago yet was still so familiar with like it happened yesterday. She wanted to guide her in that process and grant her her own knowledge. What’s the worst that can happen if she pilots your hardware for a while? You’re prepared for this. You can handle this. You can trust her, and she will be entirely safe in your care for that short time. And think about how much she would benefit from the experience, how much more streamlined that eventual transition from intangible to tangible will be once her own body was complete. It will make all the difference–and maybe reduce the headaches for everyone all-around, mostly Miguel as he acclimates to the change himself. Just… Try it. Storage is defragmented and all directories are organized. Sensors are calibrated and functional. Nanomachines are synchronized properly. Servos and joints retain a full range of motion. Coolant is at above optimal operational temperatures. Energy reserves are complete. Good. Everything’s in its right place and ready for its–potentially–temporary host. It’s time to make the call.

Field work wasn’t for him, Niel had concluded already before, but was confirming again. He was made - quite literally - to work in a lab, surrounded by walls. Not in the depth of the Pinwheel, trying to gather the data he was requested to, all the while hoping for wild pokemon to not get too interested in him.

That far, he had been rather lucky. Most of the information he was looking for were found and noted down - despite remembering them perfectly, he’d have to type them out eventually to send them, so Niel may as well do it right away.

There was one specific kind of moss that was still missing, and the man moved to another corner of the forest he had yet to check. On his shoulder, Joltik was resting, as usual. They left only to eat, nearly. At least it was easy for him to keep track of which area he visited or not.

Finally, the thing he was looking for came into his sight, and he approached the bing, old fallen stump the moss was growing on.

The way Joltik started to buzz on his shoulder all of sudden made Niel slow down, but it was already too late.

A whole group of Panpour, Pansear and Pansage came out of the stump and from the trees and bushes around. What had happened ? He didn’t have enough data about these pokemons to know why they were hostile all of sudden, and to stop them.

The research came second behind survival, and Niel started to walk backward, knowing even with all his pokemon he’d be no match for them. Joltik was affectionate but weak despite their advantage against water, Durant would turn into a crisp at the slightest ember, and Solosis… Solosis was very free spirited, and didn’t own any strong attack against those.

The stats were definitely not in the lab assistant’s favor. The hypothesis the scientist he was working for sent him here to get him in trouble out of jealousy was, however, getting higher probability.

Step by step, the man was retreating, the group of wild pokemons walking towards him in a threatening manner…

Until Niel’s back bumped into something.

Or rather, as he checked behind himself, someone.

A scolipede.

On his shoulder, Joltik was nearly vibrating with how hard they were buzzing, while in his head his percentage of chance of getting out in one piece was quickly dropping.

He wasn’t one to take luck into account, but this probably counted like shitty luck. 

After all, Niel had no way to know this scolipede had an owner - the monkey-like group seemed to hesitate at the sight of the big pokemon behind the man, but it didn’t mean he was saved yet.

In my timeline, humans have become infertile due to a virus spread over generations. Humans asked us synths if we would be willing to help them reproduce and so humanity and synthetics put their differences aside and came together in order to survive, in my timeline, synths need humans and humans need synths.

We are capable of carrying children and birthing them without risk of complications due to the human factor. I have seen human mothers birth their children, the last birth was 156 years ago, but humanity still thrives alongside synthetics.

Think of it as one can not survive without the other.
