I hate being a teaching assistant but I love teaching
I love running my discussion section and walking around to students and talking about their algorithms
I love holding office hours and having students ask me questions about the challenge problems and I get to ask them leading questions and show smaller examples and give them the tools to solve future problems on their own
I love meeting one-on-one with students struggling to pass the class and giving them the focused attention they need to get over their misunderstandings and get a hold of unique strategies that will work for them
I love teaching. I love tutoring. I love guiding.
Why does my job burn me out so

Congratulations on 300 followers love!!! You deserve this and more, I'm so so happy for you. ❣️
What do you think of Art being readers tutor, except she's actually just faking not understanding anything because she wants to spend time with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"i just don't get it!" you huff for the fourth time while mulling over the same problem for an hour. of course, the answer is 47%, and the equation is pretty straightforward, but he doesn't have to know that you know that.
you're great at statistics. art is... average. but when you saw him sitting front row of your stat 202 lecture on the first day of classes you knew you had to have him. golden curls sitting so prettily above that sharp nose and blue eyes sparking behind those slutty glasses perched on the bridge of his nose.
after class one day in the second week, you tap him on the shoulder and ask if he understood anything the teacher was talking about.
"uh, yeah, sure," he answers, turning around to lean over your desk and explain confidence intervals while you stare at his cute pink lips the whole time instead of listening.
"you're really good at explaining things," you compliment despite not having listened to a word he had said. you learn that you really like how he looks when his face gets all warm and flushed.
"really? um, thanks," he pushes his glasses further up the bridge of his nose bashfully and you catch yourself wondering how that nose would feel buried between your thighs.
"do you think you could tutor me on this?" you ask sweetly, twirling your pen into your hair. "i'm like... so bad at math," you explain simply, lying through your teeth.
you can see him considering the situation in his mind. pros and cons, how much he really wants to see you every week or so. the answer is clearly a lot when he answers "yeah, i could do that. i have tennis practice pretty much every day, but i'm sure we could find time," he clears his throat when he's done like it took effort to get that many words out when you're looking at him like that.
"really? perfect!" you clap your hands together, a pleased grin breaking out onto your lips. "here, give me your number. so we can.. plan where to meet and stuff," you hand your phone over to him and he seems to get impossibly redder. how cute.
for the first few meetings, you'd meet at the library. you tell him with a pout that you got a c on the first test despite nailing it and you lean in extra close when he comforts you and tells you that you can still pass the class with grades like that, but that's why he's here to help!
you memorize his features and the inflection of his voice when you're supposed to be learning the central limit theorem and always ask him questions about home and tennis and his other classes to get him off track when you get bored of that.
you sit extra close to him, your thighs and your elbows brushing as you make him draw models on your notebook to show you how they work, even if his numbers are slightly off, you can't correct him.
you always wait for him to finish his tests in class first, doodling stars in the margins after you finish so that it doesn't look suspicious. you slowly work up to telling him your real test scores so he can feel accomplished as your tutor. once, when he asks you what you got on an exam, you slip up and casually say 95.
"what?" he asks, eyes wide, clearly astonished, "that's.. awesome."
"all because of you!" you cheer, quickly wrapping him up in a hug to distract him.
eventually, you convince him to start meeting in one of your dorms. it's so much easier than going all the way to the library after all. you lay on your stomach, head practically in his lap as he sits with his back to the wall, notebook or laptop conspicuously hiding the semi he's been rocking ever since seeing you sprawled out on his sheets.
it all comes crashing down one day when you're idly scrolling on your phone as he searches through your desk for some flashcards in preparation for the final exam. what he finds instead is your very first exam from the semester, a big red 100 penned at the top.
"what's this?" he asks, his heart pounding in his chest as he holds it up for you to see. it's unmistakable. your name penciled in at the top next to stat 202, section 4. and a fat red 100. even circled for emphasis and a little great job from your professor. the test you had told him you got a c on. the test he had barely scraped by with a b.
you glance up casually, your heart stopping in your chest as you register what he's holding. your eyes flick up to his, the expression on your face making it clear to him that you weren't expecting him to find that. "i.. um..." you start, not quite sure how to explain it away this time.
"what's the square root of 196?" he asks suddenly, like he's quizzing you. you can't tell if he's angry or not, his expression stony as he looks at you, only his blue eyes giving away the hint of betrayal.
"14?" you answer correctly, knowing you can't go about fooling him anymore.
he sighs, his hand holding the test falling to his side and his head falling back to look up at the ceiling.
"i'm sorry, art," you're immediately sliding off your bed to approach him, a regretful look on your face. and you really are. you didn't want to lie to him, not really, but you just had to get to know him.
"why did you lie to me?" he asks, finally looking down at you again, the hurt clear on his face this time.
"i'm sorry," you repeat, softer this time, intertwining your fingers with those of his free hand. "i just... i wanted to talk to you. to spend time with you," you try and explain, knowing it's still not exactly justified.
"you couldn't have just talked to me like a normal person? asked me to hang out, get coffee or something?" he asks and you cringe at the accusation in his tone.
"i just.. it was the first thing i thought of. and then i liked spending time with you so much, i just had to keep up with the lie or i thought i'd lose you and..." you trail off, looking down at your feet in shame. you know you betrayed his trust, you're simply praying he'll give you another chance.
he sighs softly again, his hand gingerly coming up to you jaw to tilt your head up to look at him again. "you're not going to lose me," he insists, his eyes looking much softer now as he takes you in. "but i think maybe you should be the one tutoring me," he teases, a small smile gracing his features that makes you sag with relief.
"i'm sorry," you sigh again as he pulls you into his chest. you wrap your arms around him, breathing in his scent and thanking whatever it is out there that's clearly on your side.
"shh," he shushes you gently, placing a kiss to the top of your head. "i forgive you. this time," he adds with a chuckle that inflates your chest. a second chance is all you need. statistically, you had to be much more likely to get it right the second time.

The Report Card – Fantasy High Junior Year Ep 15
The Buddy System
Welcome back to Fantasy High where the Bad Kids are still fighting for their lives and, more importantly, their grades.
After a sterling start to their Last Stand exam, they still have a lot more test to get through before they’re academically out of the woods and they need a perfect score on the written portion to pass which is incredibly harsh but that’s Aguefort for you!
This is a very long episode where everyone gets to be so cool. Truly, you can see how competent all of the players and the characters have become as they carve a bloody path through wave after wave of enemies.
As usual, it doesn’t really make sense for me to do a blow for blow recap of this fight but it’s absolutely worth watching. It’s an absolute delight from Siobhan and Emily irl making up a limerick in tandem to pass the Performance section of The Last Stand to Gorgug rolling truly more Nat 20s than I’ve ever seen in my life and almost solo-ing a *Purple Worm*. There’s not really any commentary that I can add to improve on just how amazingly they do in the episode. They’re forced to use the auto-pass stamp twice but only on the two most unreasonable things Brennan asked them to do–write a 300 word essay longhand in five minutes and do a (gag) math word problem. With those two stamped, they get 100% on their written exam. They even get some extra credit (partially due to Siobhan’s IRL LOTR geekery).
Not only that, but Gavin (the proctor) only gets hit (I think) once and never actually goes down! None of the Bad Kids do. Hell, Adaine–their squishiest member–basically just sits at her desk the whole fight answering questions and slinging spells and she’s fine! Happy ending, A+s all around, roll credits, right?
No, of course not. Nothing is that simple–not that this was simple. They can’t just be the first party to ever pass The Last Stand without dying and have it be done.
During the fight, everyone–but especially Kristen–has been suspicious of Buddy. She does an Insight check and sees that he seems on the level but that’s not enough to quell her suspicion. Near the end of the fight, she eats the Vulture King eyeball (granting her a minute of Truesight) with the intent of seeing who Buddy really is–a reasonable instinct considering Ruben was in disguise at the festival.
She sees that Buddy is Buddy. She *also* sees Kipperlilly Copperkettle invisibly aiming a crossbow at Gavin. KP clocks Kristen clocking her, smiles, and lowers the crossbow, instead choosing to SLIT BUDDY’S THROAT. Buddy falls to the ground, absolutely DEAD. Not making saves. FULLY DEAD. A blue scaly hand touches her and they both vanish–Kristen can tell that the spell was Plane Shift (which is necessary for getting in and out of this testing pocket dimension). She frantically looks for a diamond to cast Revivify but her pockets have been picked and Buddy’s Revivify diamonds are gone as well.
They finish the fight victoriously but Buddy’s death casts a pallor on everything. This was supposed to be a fight to the death but Buddy was the one person whose death wasn’t figured into the bloodbath. Gavin tells them that they pass the rest of the year with A+s but is shaken and thrown off kilter by the seemingly random murder. Kristen tells him what she saw and Gavin says that he was observing so he can vouch for the fact that none of them had anything to do with the murder but this is a crime scene and they have to call the Fantasy FBI. The Bad Kids are all super worried about Gavin’s safety since Kipperlilly was going after him initially, but in the end they agree to take him to the Council of Chosen office in Bastion City so he can be under their protection and to leave Fig’s phone (juiced up by Gorgug) in the pocket dimension with Buddy’s body in case there are any shenanigans (you know, besides him getting murdered which was already a pretty big shenanigan).
The Bad Kids drop off Gavin and then take a bus back to Elmville with a new mission: CSI Elmville, let’s get this bitch arrested!
Editing to Add: This is a very cool post by @thisisnotthenerd that covers all the Last Stand Qs and monsters in the form of Gavin's proctor notes. Check it out!
Detention
Kipperlilly for Icing Buddy
This was gonna go to Brennan for making a bunch of stand up comedians do math under a time limit but I can’t not give it to Kipperlilly here. She smiled. She looked at Kristen, smiled, and slit Buddy’s throat. There was no gritting her teeth like it was a hard but pragmatic choice. She was about to take the life of someone who fully trusted her and she did it with glee. There is something *deeply* wrong with this bitch, and we knew that already but hoo boy this certainly clinches it.
Honor Roll
Gorgug for DESTROYING that Purple Worm
Everyone was in top form this episode but if I have to give it to one person, I’m gonna give it to Gorgug for single handedly holding back a Purple Worm, a monster so terrifying that there is an official D&D show where the premise is that all the players have to fight an OP monster they’re almost certainly gonna TPK against and the title is “Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill!” Our boy didn’t even drop. That’s Maximum Legend Behavior.
Random Notes
Kristen has the thought that she interrupted a truly horrible thing that KP was about to do and wonders what the crossbow bolt was loaded with. I didn’t mention it in the recap but I wanted to call attention to it because Brennan called attention to it.
Also Riz got some footage of Gavin clearing them with his tie and Gavin sent their scores to the superintendent (not Jace to be clear–Tectonya Karkovnya who we met in The Seven).
Ugh I’m so annoyed because if KP and Oisin get questioned under Zone of Truth they’re absolutely gonna be dosed up with Devil’s Honey.
Buddy’s throat was slit and there’s no rune on his chest so presumably he can be revived if he’s brought to a hospital–hell Kristen could probably do it with a higher level spell–but I’m worried someone’s gonna slap that rune on him while his body is alone.
Do we think KP killed Buddy without a thought because she knows she lives in a world with revives and she knows it’s temporary or is she just like I truly do not care what happens to this (literally) corny ass cleric. I don’t know him like that.
Once again, I love Adaine’s div powers so much. “You crit actually.” What a legend. Also love Fig coming to her with doubt and her just being like don’t be crazy and slapping a reticle on the monster to help her aim. I really love their friendship.
Adaine is my favorite Bad Kid and I am first in line to throw down wrath on anyone who tries to mess with her. That being said, my favorite non-Bad Kid character is Aelwyn who has absolutely tried to kill Adaine and attacked her on multiple occasions and also is wanted for murders she absolutely did. My point here is that Oisin’s next moves will determine if he’s “surrounded by bad influences/I can fix them” material like Aelwyn or, “Throw out the whole man” material like that cop Antiope had a crush on. I am still rooting for the former but I will flip on a dime, do not doubt me.
I tried that essay writing task and with 25 seconds left on the clock (I stopped when I finished making my points) I was only at 174 words and my hand was seriously cramping. So I would say, valiant effort from the Bad Kids but that was a *rough* ask.
Kristen’s Bless really came in clutch! Honorary mention to her for that AND for having enough intuition to keep an eye on the Rat Grinder situation. I wonder if Brennan contemplated that might happen.
Fig bug zapping all those flying monsters was chef’s kiss.
Did Bobby Dawn fail Kristen specifically so she’d have to take the Last Stand? If so, he is indirectly responsible for his grandson getting iced. Hope that tastes bitter when he finds out but for all we know he’s one of those ends justify the means guys. Bleh.
This season really is a love letter to all that came before it. The questions, the pentacorn, Adaine’s go to move even magically just being making a fist and letting it fly. I really love how much love Brennan clearly has for this world. And the 100% score the players got on the test shows they obviously love it right back!
Loose Ends
It is Fantasy High tradition for us to get a huge lore dump near the end of the season that ties together a lot of disparate clues and I hope we’re getting there soon because there are a LOT of loose ends we have yet to tie. Here are as many major ones as I can think of right now in case it helps spark productive speculation amongst y’all.
Who killed the Loams?
Why the move to Loam Farm for Frosty Faire?
What specifically was Ruben trying to do with the symbol when he was playing at the festival? Presumably the thing Grix was trying to prevent?
Who killed Professor Badgood?
What were the exact circumstances behind Lucy’s death?
Who was able to put the rune on both of their bodies and what exactly was the goal there?
What is the Devil’s Honey being used for? What about the other things Aelwyn was getting for KP like Ambrosia? Why did she want a Cloud Rider engine?
How is Jace involved? Why is he manipulating Ruben?
How culpable is each individual Rat Grinder? Are they all in it together or are there varying levels of how involved they are?
Why were Ankarana’s domains wiped from heavens’ computers?
Why did Ankarna become corrupted and why was she forgotten? Were the celestial gods (Sol and co) involved?
How did KP find the rogue teacher?
Also what’s her damage? Why is she obsessed with Riz? What are her anger issues about?
What’s her current goal? Who is she loyal to (if anyone)? Why did she want to know about Kristen creating a god exactly?
Why did Lucy change her god and then change it back?
Why was Buddy specifically requested by the Rat Grinders?
Why is KP running for class president? And is Mazey being principal a purposeful machination or just a weird thing that’s happening incidentally?
What’s up with Spy’s Tongue Curse and Kalina only being able to say Ragh’s name? Is it related to that conversation between Kalina, Adaine’s mom, and Jace from SY?
Why wasn’t Ivy surprised to see Fig in disguise as Lucy who was at the time fully dead?
What’s up with the party vision that Adaine has now had at least twice?
Where is KP getting her money from?
What made the Rat Grinders become the Rat Grinders when they started as the High Five Heroes?
What's up with the shatter stars infecting the soil around Elmville?
Where exactly is Cass right now?
What does Ankarna want?
How does Ruvina fit into all of this?
Feel free to hit me up if there's something you think I should add to the list! Can't wait for next week. I'll see you then!

A Hypothesis as to Why My 80s/90s K-12 Math Ed Sucked
K so today is "going down the line until someone has a spare set of tens they can loan you" subtraction. AKA problems like "300 - 214" or "4000 - 738."
As usual, I'm doing these with the unit blocks because the primary school textbook told me to:
Tumblr media
I'm also doing these with the blocks because I am historically terrible at problems that involve multiple "borrow" steps. Specifically, I can never remember when to borrow and when not.
My fifth-grade teacher once told me I'd make "a terrible banker" because "you borrow too much money!" I think he meant this as a joke. As a kid, I felt weirdly insulted; as an adult and a teacher, I wonder why he didn't do a single thing to help me stop "borrowing too much."
That specific teacher aside (he was legit bad at most aspects of teaching), using unit cubes for multiple-borrow borrowing also has me wondering: Was 80s/90s math education bad because we thought we were imitating good math education?
When the Common Core standards first dropped, the Internet was awash in examples of number lines, "counting on," and other CPA-esque methods of teaching primary math. A lot of these examples got pushback from their posters, who didn't grasp that there are many ways of thinking about numbers.
A friend of mine, a marine biologist, replied: "What most people don't get is that these Common Core examples are how people who are good at math think about math."
(Said friend was very good at math and regularly surrounded by people who are good at math, so I believe her.)
When I was taught basic math, we were deprived of concrete manipulables and even pictorial representations almost immediately. If we demonstrated that we understood what a number symbol stood for (7 = "that's a seven" *holds up seven fingers*), we were deemed "too advanced" for concrete or pictorial representations.
By the time we got to the borrow-ad-infinitum-minus-one type subtraction, most of us had had concrete tools withheld for at least two years (first and second grade) and sometimes 4-5 years.
People who are good at math can look at a problem like 4000 - 1228 and get an accurate answer fairly quickly in their heads. There are no manipulables involved and there may be no jotting answers down, either.
I'm no historian of math education, but I wonder if the prevailing hypothesis was "if people good at math can do this invisibly, then to make kids good at math we should make them do it invisibly too, and as soon as possible."
Anyway I still suck at borrowing repeatedly, so back to the clicky blocks it is for me.

[Megumi Fushiguro & Fem!Y/n]
Warnings: None. It's kind cute.
_______________________________________
It has been a while since the new student made it to Jujutsu school in Tokyo. She left a huge mark on everyone despite the short period. Nobara and Yuji fell in love with her the munite they met. They found her big, curly hair fascinating and stylish. Not to mention her style, at the airport, They were staring at her, thinking she was a model before she approached them introducing herself as the new student, and it took them awhile to comprehend that. They immediately became bestfriends.
Megumi don't hate her either, He respected her chill and kind personality. Especially after seeing her, laugh off Yuji and Nobara rude ass questions such as 'You are an African? if yes why are you white?' or 'How your hair stays up like that throughout the day?' Rude much? but they meant no harm, They were genuinely curious, and She knew that, and that's why she laughed and answered every question thoroughly. She didn't need too but She did. He admired that.
Gojo tho admired her for a whole different reason, To be fair, She may not leave a good mark on everyone. The way Y/n lashed out at Yoshinobu Gakuganji once for not respecting Ijichi shocked everyone. She reminded everyone that she was not japanese and that she didn't grow up respecting the elderly. Rather, she respected who deserves to be respected. To her, ijichi deserved more respect than Yoshinobu or the higher-ups ever deserved it. Let's not forget the fact that quote on quote said,'Higher-ups ? I don't respect bitchs who don't show their faces on battle fields' she was ready to fight Yoshinobu, cursed energy going through her body and blood lust, fulling the room. Gojo somehow managed to calm the situation, but the amount of respect Y/n gained wasn't something anyone can control. She was feisty and crazy enough not to think twice about fighting the higher-ups herself or anyone in that matter, keeping everyone on their toes.
That's why, when shit went down the hill in this mission, nobody doubted Y/n capability to keep up until the backup appears. Her ability was more or less simple, Teleportation. Her mind, It's her mind that scared everyone. She made a simple teleportation which supposedly trivial, at best, a 3th grade technique to 1st grade technique: instead of learning how to save up energy to teleport more people if needed and staying at that like everyone on her clan did, First, She learned how to change the teleportation technique to something similar to resizing technique and teleport a object or person to a bigger or smaller size to either blow or squish them. She also learned to transport organs, eventually leading to learning to transport cursed energy too, so instead of saving up cursed energy, she uses the enemy's energy against them. The only problem is that she has to touch the person or the object or the place to teleport it, from or to it.
With that much said, it was supposed to be a simple mission to capture a curse user and bring them back. after being surrounded, The damned old man made a pack with the heavens in exchange for his soul to open up portals and let 300 1st grade curses out and about. Who would fucking do that?! No-one had much time to think before screaming started, Y/n quickly teleported the other 3 with her out side of the mess along with her. She quickly found her way back now that her back is clear and the others are safe, She can think properly.
By the time, back-up appeared, Y/n have killed 60 of them. Thanks to her using the enemy's energy instead of her own she wasn't showing any hints of weakness. Soon enough, Kyoto's , Tokyo's and other sorcerers appeared to help. Unfortunately for Y/n the less enemy's the less powers she have. So by the time they ended the 300, and the Portals were showing the hints of blowing up. Y/n and eveyone around her was barely able to move.
"Where's that fucking blindfolded guy when he's needed?" Y/n whispered before transporting everyone away, herself excluded, with the last bit of her curse energy. She bearly was able to run toward megumi, who was also too beaten and too shocked to move. 'Damn it, I should have marked him when I had the chance.' The girl thought, regretting her life choices for once in her life. A white-haired man appeared out of nowhere front of the crowd watching his two students finding their way towards them with seconds left to the explosion, He held his hand up ready to help till he felt it.
He watched as the whole place exploded, blasting wind towards them. "Why.." The black-haired kid asked turning to Y/n. She was able to sense Gojo in time to use his curse energy, it was Gojo who joked that he will safe her life if she marked him just in case which Actually safed her. 'He knew' that all she can think right now. Before turning to Mrgumi, He had his arm around her shoulder and her arm around his terso helping him standing, their faces close enough to feel each other's breaths, she shook her head smiling,, shaking all of the thoughts aways. She just glad they made it. Looking at his sparkly eyes, "You haven't fucked me yet, can't let you die" she laughed making the boy flush bright red, his eyes wide open before turning his face away. Gaining hair ruffle from Gojo and cheeky "I told you, you are popular among the girls", "Shut up!" Megumi whispered, gaining another laugh from Gojo and Y/n together. They sure love to torture him.
After that accident, Megumi been flushing alot around Y/n. Now, those words are the only thing the poor boy can think of. 'Was she serious?'

One of the real shitty consequences of how exams were handled during the pandemic is teachers handed out what they thought their students should be getting.
Teachers. Who I am sure had no incentive to inflate their own students ability, especially in the face of parents who knew where to find you and schools who would like big exam numbers and to say how many students went on to university.
So there's a lot of kids who left school with grades higher than they probably should have got.
"why is that a problem dibbzy?"
Well there's also this all consuming pressure to go to university.
So there's now a lot of kids at uni who are really REALLY struggling to pass their exams.
(My brother is currently working through the resit schedule and some of these kids are retaking their exams for the third year running)
So these kids who have been fucked over by the pandemic, got fucked over by their schools trying to inflate numbers, are now spending their one single student loan on a degree they aren't really qualified for, which means they can no longer do that degree at a later date when they are more experienced or have a better idea of what they want from life.
And it's really quite sad.
My brother however has little pity cause he's spent the last week answering the same question from 300 people who don't read their emails properly and is at the end of his tether dealing with people who think they are a Special Case and want to know why the university can't just schedule their resit when they're not on holiday cause that's just really inconvenient for them.
Mixed bag.

Insomnia (A Super Mario Story)
Twelfth grade has started for 17 year old Ludwig von Koopa, the oldest of his 8 siblings. All senior students have known this year to be their hardest year in high school due to the many exams and finals they needed to study on to get into their university or college of their choice. Ludwig was quite nervous. Very much so after his 11th grade report card.
It was the last day of school. Ludwig returned to his room, and opened up an envelope containing his report card. He felt a little sick when he saw his grades. They had dropped slightly from A+ to As and Bs. That didn't make any sense because Ludwig has a surprising IQ of 300; making him the smartest koopaling in his class. Ludwig spent some time figuring out what went wrong. His answer was that he was distracted thanks to his family.
His father is King Bowser Koopa, and he always plans to kidnap Princess Peach and marry her so his kids can have a mother. Although Ludwig usually addresses her as "Princess Toadstool". Sometimes.
So with that in mind, Ludwig came up with a game plan. To start he would study different things everyday in the summer at the castle's or local library in the Koopa Kingdom. Now that September came, he thought of something bigger. Something more drastic.
First he bought a coffee machine and a bunch of coffee and coffee mugs for his room from the local shop, then he set everything up. Next he bought a bunch of Monster, Red Bull, and ZOA energy drinks. He checked to make sure they're all high caffeine. Finally, when the coffee and energy drinks aren't enough, he sneaked into Iggy's lab and stole some adrenaline needles.
'Technically it's only borrowing.' Ludwig thought. 'I'll give the leftovers back.'
He planned on studying 24/7 in his room, and cut all communications with his family. When he told them by text, none of them were happy about this.
"What the heck Ludwig?!" That was all they said before Ludwig blocked them.
'It's only temporary.' Ludwig thought to himself. 'I will unblock them at the end of June. I just need to focus on my studies.'
Finally, Ludwig installed locks on his bedroom door, and even used his wand to create a barrier. Everything was all set. Ludwig took out a deep breath and took in his setup. As Ludwig would study, he would only take 5 minute breaks to either write in his journal or take a quick shower.
As expected, Ludwig would always carry a ton of homework in his backpack up to his room. Yet he found it no trouble. He would start with drinking coffee like he planned. The energy drinks and adrenaline shots are both the next resort. He would always make sure the coffee is strong. Any one of his siblings would try to knock on Ludwig'a door to get their older brother to come out, but the barrier was a problem, and Ludwig made sure to ignore them. On weekends, Ludwig would drink his coffee three times a day. In the morning, afternoon, and evenings. It even helps as Ludwig would prepare for any upcoming exams.
However, Ludwig's health wasn't doing any good; aside from not eating much of anything. It was more of lack of sleep due to drinking too much coffee.
During his lack of sleep, he would feel fatigued beyond belief. He was even nodding off during his classes, which resulted in his teachers getting angry with him and giving him more homework than usual. No detentions though; thank god. As if that's not bad enough, his digestive system would be in distress, he gets tension headaches, his irritation mainly towards his siblings, he feels dizzy, and he has difficulty focusing on his studies due to blurry vision.
One particular December night he found out what's happening. Before Ludwig took a quick shower during one of his breaks, and he looked at himself in the mirror. His eyes widened a little.
He has gotten bags under his eyes.
He traced his fingers over the bags. How did he not notice this before?
The oldest koopaling shook his head. He needed to focus on getting a quick shower done.
When he returned to his room, he quickly dressed back in his conductor's outfit, then quickly. opened his phone to look up his symptoms. He had a feeling, but he wanted to confirm it. When he looked up his symptoms, he had gotten an answer many dread.
Ludwig von Koopa, the oldest son of Bowser Koopa and heir to the throne (A/N: In this story, Bowser Jr. isn't the heir to the throne), has insomnia. He's an insomniac. His family would bother him even more.
He was stressed and anxious at the very beginning, and he has developed an obsession of caffeine and adrenaline shots. All this makes a lot of sense. However, there is no turning back now. He was adamant to keep on studying. Ludwig would set up a recovery plan after he aced his exams and finals in the last school year. Right now, he got a Monster energy drink ready, and continued on studying. He would have to keep his insomnia a secret.
For the rest of the school year, Ludwig wore some makeup he "borrowed" from his only sister Wendy to cover up the dark circles in his eyes. Everything was still going according to plan. He still got A+s in every single assignment he did despite his tiredness. This year, Ludwig is valedictorian. He has the best grades out of EVERYONE. All is going so far so good. Whenever Ludwig returns home, he would always be asked if he was alright. He never answer the question.
Still Ludwig wasn't fairing well.
He looked at his supplies, and wondered how long it'll be until they'll all be ineffective. He didn't want to find out. Ludwig would drink his coffee or energy drink and carry on with his homework.
At school during lunch breaks, he would only go to the vending machines and get himself an energy drink. Mainly a Red Bull.
On February, the coffee and energy drinks no longer worked. They had become ineffective. No matter how much Ludwig drank, nothing seemed to work. It was time to use the adrenaline shots. He even started hallucinating some things. Mainly different strips of colours that floated in his vision.
The first time with the adrenaline shots weren't easy. Not that Ludwig was nervous; it was getting the shot in. He first did it in his bathroom. He took off his shirt and directed the needle on his shoulder. He needed to get the shot in just right. When the needle touched the skin, he slowly jabbed the needle inside his bloodstream, and the adrenaline set in. It worked.
Now fast forward to two weeks before the end of the school year. That's when things changed.
He was in his last class for the day; Music class. It was his most favourite class out of everything he did. He usually plays on the piano. He would close his eyes and get lost in the music. It's like he'd be in his own world with no worries at all. Just music and peace.
"....wi..."
He was right now picturing he's in a forest at night with the piano being played.
"...ud...ig..."
He was so lost in the music he couldn't hear any voices calling out to him.
"Ludwig."
"LUDWIG!"
Ludwig opened his eyes with a gasp. He looked around wildly. All his classmates are staring at him. Even his music teacher is looking at him funny. Had he fallen asleep? Did he play a wrong note by accident? He hoped none of these were the case.
"Uh, I-I apologize sir." Ludwig apologized quickly. "I must've zoned out a bit there."
"Von Koopa, where have you been?" Mr. Kennedy, a Hammer Bro who teaches music, asked in a stern tone.
"Uhh, I've been places. I-" Ludwig stammered.
"You've missed the announcement." the teacher continued. "You're being sent to the nurse's office for a checkup. Said something about enough being enough I guess."
The nurse's office? Enough is enough? How auspicious. Ludwig shrugged and decided to go along with it.
"Oh, and you'll need to take your stuff with you just in case." Mr. Kennedy pointed at Ludwig's books. "And some homework."
The homework was then loaded on Ludwig's other books as the oldest koopaling exited the music classroom and walked to the nurse's office. The hyperactive energy came back. During his time trying to keep from nodding off, the hyperactive energy from so much caffeine in his system would go up and down.
'Well, at least nothing else bad happened.' Ludwig thought to reassure himself. 'Let's see what the nurse has to say.'
As Ludwig arrived at the nurse's office, he was about to open the door, but he paused. He strangely felt weird about all this for no reason. Why was Ludwig so nervous?
He eventually snapped out of it, and opened the door and entered inside. He looked at the paper on the wall next to what the oldest koopaling guessed was the waiting area.
Please wait here for nurse
Approximate time: 5 minutes
Ludwig sat in a chair then. He opened up his notebook, and decided to get a head start on his homework. He figured he'd do something while waiting.
Today just feels weird. Something is not going right here. He has never been sent to the nurse's office the previous months. Did his other teachers do something? Or the principal?
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard the sound of a door opening; then closing. A female paratroopa entered the room. She wore glasses and a sweater. He looked up, and the two made eye contact.
"Ah, your majesty." the nurse said with a warm smile.
"Ludwig. Just Ludwig is fine nurse. So, you wanted me to come over for an appointment?" Ludwig asked. "This all feels so sudden."
"Oh yes. Follow me." she instructed.
The nurse led Ludwig to one of the few beds, and he sat down.
"So Ludwig, I just need to ask a few questions if that is alright?" the nurse asked holding a clipboard and pen.
Ludwig nodded slowly.
"Alright, so how have you been doing?"
"Aside from the...tiredness I guess, I suppose I'm doing alright."
"Have you been sleeping well lately?"
"..."
"Don't worry, I only want to help you. You have nothing to be nervous about."
"...No, I unfortunately forgot how to. I just spend time on my homework."
"Why do you not sleep anymore? Sleep is important for the body?"
"..."
"Ludwig?"
"...I'm...afraid..."
"What are you afraid of?"
The oldest koopaling thought of what would happen if he showed his father his dropped grades, and shuddered.
"I'm afraid my grades are dropping, and I would be...a failure."
"And what keeps you from sleeping?"
"I...keep myself awake by...drinking coffee and energy drinks."
"And how long has this been going on?"
"...This...has been going on throughout almost the whole school year."
The nurse wrote everything Ludwig told her in her clipboard. When the questions were done, and she finished writing her notes, she stood up, and asked Ludwig if she could do some tests. He nodded slowly again. After the quick tests, she looked at Ludwig with a serious and worried face..
"Ludwig, all these things you told me are leading you to danger." she said in a worried tone.
"Huh?" Ludwig asked dumbly. "What do you mean?"
"Well for starters, those symptoms you told me say you indeed have insomnia." she stated.
Ludwig's eyes widened a little. So it was official. He didn't want to believe it the first time he looked it up, but Ludwig is truly an insomniac.
"And that's not all. According to the tests, you have too much caffeine in your system. That's very dangerous. It could possibly lead to a heart attack." she continued.
Ludwig's heart stopped. He shuddered and clutched his chest. Had he gone that far? How is he still alive after all this caffeine?
"It's...obvious this is extremely bad, am I right?" Ludwig asked.
"Yes. It's very very bad. There is something you can do about it." the nurse said as she stood up. She walked over to a cabinet and opened it up. Ludwig raised an eyebrow as his eyes follow her. She took out a bottle of medicine, and walked over to her computer. A label was then printed out. She took it out and sticked the label on the bottle. The nurse walked back to Ludwig, and handed out the bottle. The now prescribed bottle has Ludwig's full name in it.
"May I ask what this is supposed to be?" Ludwig asked suspiciously.
"I'm prescribing you some sleeping medication." the nurse told him. "I would recommend that on a school day, you take a pill once before you go to bed. On the weekends, and for summer break coming up, I would recommend two pills a day. One after lunch, and another before going to bed. It does have some side effects though."
"And they are?" the oldest koopaling asked.
"The side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, you might gain a bit of weight, and headaches. That's all you have to watch out for." the nurse warned. "But it should help with your insomnia."
Ludwig nodded, and took the medication bottle. The final bell rang. It was time to go home. He stood up and thanked the nurse. He opened the office door and left.
'I should probably notify the principal and the king.' the nurse thought with worry.
Meanwhile inside Bowser's castle, the soon-to-be retired king Bowser Koopa was in his bedroom laughing at the TV. A new episode of Charleyyy and Friends is on.
"Oh Charleyyy, that's not how you brush your teeth boy." Bowser laughed.
On the Laugh Box TV channel, Charleyyy was making chicken noises while holding an egg. Bowser laughed again.
"Charleyyy you're killing me! Oscar! Oscar!" Bowser shouted as his phone rings. He went from happy to angry at that moment and screamed. "Who is calling me while Charley's on? It better be important." He picked up the phone and answered the call. "Hello?"
The caller on the other side groaned before speaking. The caller is wearing shades and a nice shirt. "Yes, is this the father of Bowser Koopa Jr.?" he asked.
"Yes I am, and who is this?" Bowser asks. "And why are you interrupting my show?"
"I'm sorry for interrupting your show sir, but I'm calling to notify you about your son FAILING all of his classes." the mysterious caller informed.
Bowser's face at that moment turned red; like he was about to explode with rage. He exploded in rage. "WHAT?! He's failing?!"
"Yes, he's failing all of his classes, and it's been happening almost the whole school year. He even has a final exam this Friday. If he fails that exam, I'm..." the caller made a choking sound and messed with his glasses, which fell off. When he put his glasses back on his face, the caller fixes the phone. "Hello?"
"I'm still here." Bowser said.
The caller spoke back to that voice again. "I would-I would fail him. I would kick him out of the school! Do you got that? So i would recommend," he continued while pounding his fist into his hand. "that you encourage him to study."
"Oh I'll make sure he studies and passes it." Bowser said.
"Good." the caller said. "Have a nice day." He hangs up.
"Alright bye." Bowser hangs up as well. He steps off his bed. "I can't believe he doesn't wanna study. I'll show him—"
He was cut off by his phone ringing again. He picked up his phone quickly.
"Who is this now? I already had one phone call?" Bowser asked angrily. He answered the call. "Hello?"
Ludwig's principal Ms. Harris — a Koopa Troopa — is the caller. "Hello. Are you Ludwig von Koopa's father?" she asked.
Bowser choked on his saliva, and swallowed it back down. "Uh, yes yes. I'm sorry about that. I am Ludwig's father. Is my son alright? Is he hurt?"
"Oh no, he's not hurt...at least physically. We do have a problem." she answered.
"What's the problem? What's happening to my boy? Tell me!" Bowser pleaded.
"Well, it's not pretty, but a nurse told me that your son apparently has insomnia." Ms. Harris informed.
"What?" Bowser asked worriedly. "He has insomnia?"
Ms. Harris sighed. "Unfortunately yes. That's not all though. He has too much caffeine in his system. Yet, he's still alive."
Bowser became speechless. "Wait, he's supposed to die from having so much caffeine?" he asked.
"Yes." Ms. Harris answered. "It's amazing he's alive. But the nurse gave me some news. She prescribed him some sleeping pills."
Bowser sighs in relief. "That sounds good." he said. "I'll make sure Ludwig takes these pills and make sure he rests easy."
Ms. Harris sighed in relief. "Thank you very much. If you need to, you can call me again to request a few days off for your son."
Bowser smiled and nodded. "I'll consider it, and thank you again. You have a nice day." he said and hung up. He puts his phone down and opens up a drawer; pulling out a belt. "That's two kids I have to deal with today. What are the odds?" He then exit the bedroom and stomped downstairs. Before he left, he grabbed his phone quickly. He thought he should make a pit stop to see his royal advisor Kamek. At least to take care of the caffeine issue.
When he arrived at Kamek's spell room, he opened the door startling the old magikoopa.
"KAMEK! WE GOT A PROBLEM!" Bowser shouted.
Kamek turned to Bowser quickly. "Ah, y-your majesty. What can I do for you?" he asked maintaining his composure.
"Well, long story short Ludwig hasn't been sleeping lately, and he uses all caffeine products such as coffee and energy drinks to keep himself awake." Bowser explained the best he could. "What I need you to do is go in his room and get rid of anything related to caffeine, and hide it somewhere where he wouldn't think to look at. And make it quick. The kids will be home from school at any moment." He then ran quickly to thee front door.
Kamek stood there nodding. "Yes your majesty." He summoned his broom and zipped to Ludwig's room.
Moving on to the front door, Bowser stands in front of the giant doors waiting for his kids to come home. He went on his most frequent social media platform Twitter, and posted something.
Does anyone have any tips on sleeping? Not me, but my oldest son hasn't been sleeping at all lately. I think he forgot how to.
He added a picture of Patrick Starfish from SpongeBob Squarepants with bloodshot eyes, thinking of the cartoons he would watch with Lemmy on Saturday mornings when he puts his show aside. Then he put his phone away and picks up his belt.
"I'll teach him how to study and get him to sleep." Bowser grumbled to himself. He whistled as he swings the belt around and chuckles. "Come home. Just come home. I bet you won't walk through that front door."
The school bus arrives close to the Koopa Castle, and the door opens. Ludwig steps off the bus with a tired sigh. As the bus leaves, Ludwig looks at his sleeping pills he kept in his hand. He shook his head, and walked home. Usually Ludwig comes home before his siblings do from school. This was good to Ludwig. He can head to his room to study without running into anyone bothering him.
He let out a big yawn and stretched. 'Looks like first thing I'll do is get another shot.' Ludwig thought. 'I'm sorry nurse, but my studies are still on the line.'
Ludwig walked to the front of the castle, and opened the door. What he didn't expect was his father about to hit him with a belt. Ludwig flinched. He closed his eyes and waited for the whips.
"Stu—" Bowser started to shout, but stopped when he saw Ludwig. He gasped and quickly tossed away his belt and hugged his son. "Oh Ludwig, I'm so sorry. I forgot you come home before your siblings do. I wasn't meant to hit you with that belt."
Ludwig opened his eyes slowly, and saw his father hugging him. With the pill bottle still in his hand, he hugged his father back. The hug felt so warm. Ludwig felt his eyes about to close, but he quickly opened them back up. "F-Father?" Ludwig asked tiredly.
Bowser nodded. "It's me." he confirmed. Father and son both pulled away from their hug. "Oh you poor baby. You look so tired."
Ludwig was surprised at this. "H-How did you—?" he asked.
"Your school called." Bowser answered. "Everyone is very worried about you. Even me. You haven't gotten any rest at all. You don't have to overwork yourself."
"But father, I—" Ludwig started.
"No buts!" Bowser shouted. "We're going to have a self care afternoon. Here," he lends out his hand. "Give me your pills and leave your bag here."
Ludwig raised an eyebrow with confusion. "What are you planning?"
As soon as Ludwig asked that question, a ding was heard. Bowser looked at his phone. He read the message and sighed in what sounded like relief. He turned back to Ludwig.
"For starters, you're going to your room and changed to comfy pyjamas. You won't be wearing that for long. And no questions asked. And I'm not asking you, it's an order!" Bowser ordered.
Ludwig wanted to object, but he knew Bowser wouldn't budge. He sighed, and headed to his room. His steps were slow and sluggish. While Ludwig in on the way to his room, he decided to talk to Chef PP (A/N: Apologies about that part of the name, but I'm more of a family friendly artist/writer, so if I wrote Chef PP's full name, it's immediately a mature fanfic) and see what they could do.
Chef PP, Bowser's chef, is setting up snacks for the Koopalings. He sighs in approval of his work. "Alright, I got all the snacks all set up. Well, almost. I have to fix Junior's stupid lunchable, and I know Ludwig doesn't want anything to eat."
"CHEF PP!" Bowser shouted.
"What now Bowser?" Chef PP groaned.
Bowser arrives at the kitchen. "Chef PP, I need you to make Ludwig an after school snack." Bowser ordered.
"Are you kidding me?" Chef PP asks. "Ludwig never comes to the kitchen for a snack. What makes today any different?"
"Because his school called me. He has been overworking himself, and not sleeping!" Bowser said briefly.
"What?" Chef PP asked in shock. "The future king Ludwig Von Koopa has not been sleeping?"
"I know, right?" Bowser asks. He opened up the pill bottle, and took out a sleeping pill. "I think our poor overworked prince would like a nice batch of chocolate chip cookies."
Chef PP smirked. "I know what you're thinking lord Bowser." he said as he took the pill. "One batch of chocolate chip cookies coming right up!"
Meanwhile, Ludwig had reached his room. He saw something out of thee ordinary. The locks on his door are gone. All the locks are all gone. 'How did that happen?' Ludwig thought.
He opened the door. He entered his room, and closed the door. He walked over to a clothing drawer and picked out a t-shirt and sweatpants. He reluctantly changed out of his usual clothes, and put them on. He then sat on his bed.
'I will admit; I do feel more comfortable now.' Ludwig thought.
He looked around his room. He noticed his coffee machine is gone. His eyes widened and he stood up. He looked for his caffeine supplies, and they're all gone as well.
'Adrenaline shots! Maybe the adrenaline shots are still there!' Ludwig thought desperately.
Before Ludwig could check, he heard a knock on his door; making him return to reality.
"Uh, y-yes?" Ludwig asked. "Who's there?"
"It's Chef PP. I got you some cookies." Chef PP answered.
Ludwig was reluctant to answer the door, but then his stomach growled. Maybe what's wrong with him is he's hungry. This made Ludwig motivated to answer the door. He opened the door to reveal Chef PP holding a bowl of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Ludwig looked at them for a minute, then he took the bowl.
"Thank you Chef PP." Ludwig said. "Oh, and does father still have my backpack? I need that to work on homework."
"I'll ask him about that. You don't have to worry about it." Chef PP reassured Ludwig. "You just enjoy your snack. The best part is you can eat in your room. Your father said it's a special treat on him."
Ludwig nodded and thanked Chef PP again, and he then closed the door. He sat on his bed again, and held up a cookie. He looked at it for a moment, and took a bite.
'This is the best cookie I've ever ate.' Ludwig thought happily.
Ludwig continued eating the cookie, and started eating more cookies. What he didn't know is that in these cookies are one of Ludwig's prescribed sleeping pills crushed.
After all the cookies are gone, Ludwig sighed with content and put the bowl on his bedside table. He yawned again.
'These are the best cookies ever. I gotta thank Chef PP for—'
Suddenly Ludwig felt woozy. He looked at the cookie bowl, and he finally realized it was a trap. He had been drugged. He climbed up his bed weakly. He then heard yelling from his father and another child, but his hearing and vision was fuzzy. As his head hit the pillow, his eyes closed and he passed out; ready for a long overdue nap.
Very later on, Ludwig slowly awoke to fuzzy laughter. He slowly opened his eyes to a blurry world. From what Ludwig can tell, the room he's in is pitch black save for light coming from a TV. The oldest koopaling's vision cleared up to see his father laughing at the TV.
"F-Father?" Ludwig asked while tugging at his father's arm. "Father?"
Bowser calmed down and turned to Ludwig. Upon seeing him awake, he turned down the volume on his TV. "Ludwig, what are you doing awake? It's very late." he told him.
Ludwig sleepily wondered about that. "Wait, what time is it?" he asked.
"Oh, it's very late." Bowser answered. "Apparently another episode of Charleyyy and Friends can come on very late." Bowser thought of other words to say.
"Did I..." Ludwig paused before continuing. "Did I miss anything important? Why am I in your room instead of my own? What about Junior though?"
Bowser shook his head. "Don't you worry about it Luds." he said. "Ludwig, I love you very much. You and your siblings. You seven are the best kids a father like me could ever ask for. I hope you know that."
Ludwig slowly nodded. "I do. Thanks father."
Bowser smiled. "You're welcome son. You go back to sleep okay? Don't worry about anything tonight or at all. Tomorrow you'll take a day off from school for some self care. Does that sound good?"
Ludwig smiled and nodded. "It does. Good night dad." he said before closing his eyes and dozing off again.
Bowser hugged Ludwig closer. He never called Bowser "dad". Just "father" and that's it. He hasn't been called that ever since Ludwig's Kooky days.
"Good night Ludwig."
The next day is a Friday. At 7:00 in the morning, Bowser called Ms. Harris this morning and requested a day off for Ludwig. The request went through. It seems Ludwig REALLY needed a day where he takes care of himself.
So while his other siblings are at their schools, Ludwig stayed in Bowser's room getting some rest and just relaxing. Bowser even gave him his tablet to pass some time. That took Ludwig's mind off of all the worries he had.
Ludwig was playing Solitaire on Bowser's tablet eating more drugged cookies, and Bowser was laughing at yet another episode of Charleyyy and Friends. Bowser's phone rings, and Bowser growled at the interruption. He took his phone and turned to Ludwig. "I need to take a phone call. I'll be right back."
Ludwig nodded, and resumed his game. Bowser stepped out of his room to answer the call. "Hello?" he greeted angrily and annoyed.
"It's Stienbeck again." Mr. Stienbeck informed. He was the same guy who called about Junior yesterday. "I'm calling to notify you that I caught your son cheating on my test."
"What?" Bowser asked angrily.
"On the final exam; with a cucumber!" Mr. Stienbeck shouted. "So I'm going to have to fail him. Good day sir." He hung up the phone.
Later on that day after the other kids returned from school and doing their after school activities and Ludwig was taking another nap, Bowser beat Junior and Chef PP with an extension chord for failing the final exam and not doing a good job with tutoring. The other koopalings were completely oblivious. When Bowser was finished and left Junior and Chef PP in pain, Bowser smiled at himself. Not because of what he had done, but because he would do anything to make sure his other 7 adopted kids happy and healthy. He will continue taking care of his non-legitimate children until he has taken his last breath.
And hopefully he will cure Ludwig's insomnia for good.
THE END
Let's get into some literature with the very first Super Mario fanfic I wrote. I wrote another version of the story, and that will be posted next.

STARTUPS AND IDEAS
And if you set off the same alarms in your head that it does in mine. We charged a flat fee of $300/month for big stores, so it is unfair to delay. I found that I got over 100 other responses listing the surprises they encountered. The first stories about Jaynes cited this source, but now it's simply repeated as if it were hard to reproduce in other countries too. They just wanted to fix a problem they encountered in their research. There are two things that take attention: convincing investors, and negotiating with them. When your company is only a few percent of the world's population will be exceptional in some field only if there are still some countries that are not copyright colonies of the US, they'll want to come here. And some that don't still manage to have the government invest in the nerds? Wearing suits, we're told, will make us 3. It's like telling the truth.
A rounds. Between the volume of people we judge and the rapid, unequivocal test that's applied to our choices, Y Combinator exerts less. One way to answer that is to ask yourself at what point you'd bet against it. People look at Reddit and think I wish I could say it was this way for every startup they fund. You now have to get good grades or want to be a good language. Most of them myself included are more comfortable dealing with abstract ideas than with people. They think they're going to raise $200,000. This essay is derived from a talk at the 2009 Startup School. Custom work doesn't scale. You want the deal to close, so you have to resign yourself to everything taking longer than it should.
So you'd only want to talk to you about a series A in phase 2 sometimes tack on a few investors after leaving fundraising mode. I often spent money I desperately needed on stuff that I didn't want to start your own company, which costs a couple thousand left. We have the potential to ensure that the US remains a technology superpower just by letting in a few months later saying This is supposed to be. I was walking down the street on trash night beware of anything you find yourself describing as perfectly good, or I'd see something as I was walking down the street on trash night beware of anything you find yourself describing as perfectly good, or I'd find something in almost new condition for a tenth its retail price and what I paid for it. They just looked like they were compared to the VCs who funded them. That scenario may seem unlikely now, but it feels young because it's full of rich people, it has few nerds. Then if they decide they do want to invest—usually because they've heard you're a hot prospect, because it takes most of the difficulty of fundraising, that should be resisted.
The name is more excusable if one considers it as meaning that we enable people to escape cubicles. And if we, who were 29 and 30 at the time seemed a lot of companies do. The Men's Wearhouse. Essentially, they lead you on. We should have expected this. Why are founders surprised that VCs are clueless? Founders are often competitive people, and what progress you've made so far.
But it often comes as a surprise to startups how much harder it is to change directions. So look for simple things that other people have overlooked—things people will later claim were obvious—especially when they've been led astray by obsolete conventions, or by redesigning the product in the way we do. Do the extra work of getting personal introductions. I'm convinced, is just the seed. Most people in America do. If you work on overlooked problems, you're more likely to notice startups nearby. It would be great if schools taught students how to choose problems as well as a duck, it's hard to change something so simple as a name, imagine how hard it is to judge startup ideas, particularly their own. Meaning that unpleasant work pays.
Either businesses aren't supposed to be. And aside from that, grad school is professional training in research, and you have to seem confident, and you just have to do an angel round before going to VCs. Dressing down loses appeal as men suit up at the office writes Tenisha Mercer of The Detroit News. But I took so many CS classes that most CS majors thought I was one. And since good people like good colleagues, that means the best programmers could collect in just a few hubs. Don't get addicted to fundraising. And that sort of thing you'd expect Google to do. Viaweb wasn't the first startup Robert Morris and I started. If you work patiently it's less stressful, and you just create Carnegie-Mellon. It makes me spend more time on the demo or the business plan, addressing the five fundamental questions: what they're going to do this.
With the help of some part-time jobs they made it last 18 months. They make the experience of buying stuff so pleasant that shopping becomes a leisure activity. 7 that matter: Yahoo, AltaVista, Excite, WebCrawler, InfoSeek, Lycos, and HotBot. I. Will you be able to come up with surprising new ideas. Rapid growth is what makes a company a startup. I wanted to keep people from getting spammed.
Their investors agree. He knows what happened in every deal in the Valley, half the time what they are talking about and are years behind in their thinking. It's obvious why transparency has that effect. Same story in 2004. Bill Gates started either. Perhaps it was even better than we'd hoped. If you're benevolent, people will rally around you: investors, customers, other companies, and potential employees. When we started Artix, I see signs of all three. Most of them had never seen the Web before we came to tell them why they should be planning to raise a lot more intimidating to start a company by just writing some clever software, putting it on a server somewhere, and watching the money roll in—without ever having to talk to his girlfriend in Taiwan, and to save long-distance bills he wrote some software that would convert sound to data packets that could be sent over the Internet. When del. I have thought about a lot. If you turned it over, it said Inside Macintosh.
Thanks to Trevor Blackwell, and Aaron Swartz for putting up with me.

Leak Repair: Everything You Need to Know About Fixing Water Leaks in Your Home
Tumblr media
When it comes to plumbing problems, leak repair is one of the most common—and most urgent—issues homeowners face. Whether it’s a dripping faucet, a leaking pipe behind the wall, or a slab leak beneath your home’s foundation, acting fast can save you time, money, and stress.
At Power Up Plumbing, we specialize in finding and fixing leaks for homes and businesses across Houma, Thibodaux, and South Louisiana. In this post, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about water leaks—so you’ll know what to expect and when to call a professional.
How Much Should It Cost to Fix a Leak?
The cost of leak repair can vary depending on the location, severity, and type of leak. Here’s a general breakdown:
Simple faucet or toilet leak: $75–$200
Under-sink pipe repair: $150–$300
Wall or ceiling leak repair: $300–$800
Slab or underground pipe leak: $500–$2,000+
It’s important to remember that these are just estimates. At Power Up Plumbing, we provide transparent, upfront pricing before we start any work—so there are no surprises. The sooner you address a leak, the lower your repair cost is likely to be.
Can a Plumber Fix a Leak?
Absolutely! Licensed plumbers are trained and equipped to fix all kinds of leaks—whether they’re caused by faulty fixtures, cracked pipes, or deteriorating seals. At Power Up Plumbing, our team uses advanced tools like moisture detectors and camera inspections to accurately locate leaks and fix them with precision.
From simple repairs to full pipe replacements, hiring a professional plumber ensures the job is done safely, effectively, and up to code.
What Is the Best Thing to Use to Stop a Leak?
While there are temporary solutions available at hardware stores—such as pipe tape, epoxy putty, or clamp kits—these are only short-term fixes. They might help stop a leak temporarily, but they don’t address the root of the problem and can often lead to bigger issues later on.
The best solution is to let a professional assess the situation. A licensed plumber can determine whether the pipe needs tightening, patching, or replacing—and use industry-grade materials to ensure a lasting repair.
Who Fixes Water Leaks in Walls?
Water leaks behind walls are especially tricky. You may notice signs like bubbling paint, soft drywall, mildew smells, or unexplained mold. These types of leaks are almost always handled by professional plumbers who specialize in leak detection and pipe repair.
At Power Up Plumbing, we use non-invasive tools to pinpoint leaks without tearing apart your entire wall. Once located, we’ll carefully expose the area, fix the leak, and help you connect with a contractor (if needed) for any drywall restoration.
Why Choose Power Up Plumbing for Leak Repair?
✔️ Local Expertise: We know South Louisiana’s unique plumbing systems and respond quickly to calls in Houma, Thibodaux, and nearby communities. ✔️ State-of-the-Art Tools: Our leak detection technology allows us to find hidden leaks fast—saving you time and preventing additional damage. ✔️ Honest Pricing: No hidden charges. We give fair, clear estimates before we begin work. ✔️ Guaranteed Repairs: We stand behind our work, ensuring your plumbing system is fixed right the first time.

Carpet Cleaning Near Me: What to Know Before You Book a Local Pro
Searching for carpet cleaning near me has become one of the most popular ways homeowners and renters find trusted local service providers. Whether you're prepping for guests, tackling spring cleaning, or just trying to maintain a healthier home, finding a professional carpet cleaner close to you can make a big difference.
Local carpet cleaners understand the unique challenges of your environment—whether that means seasonal allergens, muddy winters, or high foot traffic. But not all services are created equal, and it's important to know what to look for when choosing the right professional.
In this post, we'll break down what “near me” actually means when you search online, how to avoid DIY headaches, what kind of pricing to expect, and how to choose the best company in your area. If you're ready to schedule top-rated local service today, check out Conley’s Carpet Cleaning Plus, your go-to expert for residential and commercial carpet care in your neighborhood.
What Does “Carpet Cleaning Near Me” Actually Mean?
When you search carpet cleaning near me, Google uses your device's GPS data or IP address to return results that are geographically close. This means you’re getting recommendations for businesses that service your exact area even down to your zip code.
But what makes a local company better than a nationwide chain? For starters, local businesses like Conley’s Carpet Cleaning Plus tend to offer faster response times, more personalized service, and an understanding of local cleaning needs (think local pollen, pet dander, or moisture issues). They're not just following a corporate playbook, they're solving real problems in your community.
Plus, choosing a company nearby can mean lower travel fees, quicker scheduling, and the opportunity to support a small business with deep roots in the area.
Why Hire a Local Carpet Cleaning Company Instead of DIY?
It’s tempting to rent a machine from the grocery store or order a bottle of carpet shampoo online. But DIY carpet cleaning often leads to half-cleaned floors, leftover residue, and even water damage from over-wetting. These “quick fixes” usually cost more in the long run when you have to redo them—or replace the carpet altogether.
Professional cleaners use industrial-grade equipment that extracts deep dirt, allergens, and bacteria from your carpet fibers. And with trained technicians at the helm, you get results that are safer for your family and more effective for the longevity of your floors.
By going with a trusted local expert for carpet cleaning near me, you’ll also benefit from:
Eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning solutions
Drying times as fast as 1–2 hours
Stain and odor treatments that actually work
Custom care for different carpet types
Companies like Conley’s bring years of hands-on experience, saving you the hassle of trial and error.
How Much Does Carpet Cleaning Near Me Usually Cost?
The cost of carpet cleaning near me depends on several factors, such as the size of your home, the number of rooms, and the condition of your carpet. On average, local carpet cleaning services can range from $25 to $75 per room, with additional charges for stain removal, deodorizing, or deep extraction services.
Here’s a quick price guide:
Small apartments: $75–$125
Medium-sized homes: $150–$300
Large homes or multiple floors: $300+
Some companies may charge per square foot or offer discounts for bundled services. Conley’s Carpet Cleaning Plus, for example, provides transparent pricing, free estimates, and no hidden fees—so you always know what you're paying for.
Always ask what's included. A reputable company will explain their process, provide upfront pricing, and be happy to answer questions.
How Do I Choose the Best Carpet Cleaning Company Near Me?
When searching for the best carpet cleaning near me, you want more than just a company that shows up on Google Maps. Look for reviews, certifications, and service guarantees that prove the provider is reliable and customer-focused.
Here’s a quick checklist:
⭐ Verified online reviews (Google, Yelp, Facebook)
🧼 IICRC-certified technicians
⏱️ Flexible scheduling and fast response times
💬 Clear communication and transparent pricing
🛡️ Satisfaction guarantee or re-clean policy
Locally owned and operated businesses like Conley’s Carpet Cleaning Plus check all those boxes and more. They’ve built a strong reputation in their service area by consistently delivering high-quality results and friendly customer service.
Pro tip: Don’t wait until your carpet looks dirty. Schedule regular cleanings every 6–12 months to extend its life and improve indoor air quality.
Conclusion: Get Reliable Carpet Cleaning Near You Today
Finding reliable carpet cleaning near me doesn’t have to be stressful. Whether you're moving in, preparing for guests, or just doing a deep seasonal clean, hiring a trusted local pro ensures a healthier, cleaner home without the mess of DIY.
Conley’s Carpet Cleaning Plus offers the experience, equipment, and customer care to make your carpets look like new again. Ready for fresh, clean carpets? Click here to schedule your appointment today.

Improve academic work: Better summarisation and critical thinking are achieved through writing effective abstracts.
While essential, students struggle with writing a compelling abstract.
Common Mistakes in Abstract Writing
Writing an abstract is not just a matter of shortening an essay—but making it short and concise. Some common student pitfalls are as follows:
Avoiding Over-Generalisations: Don't generalise about a work in broad, generic terms. Be as specific as you can.
Overloading with Detail: Refrain from turning your abstract into a mini-essay—highlight key points alone.
Use Over-Technical Terms: Keep it simple and readable.
Word Limit Exceeding: Keep all abstracts between 150-300 words—abide by the limit.
No Proofreading: Typos and poor phrasing create a sense that you are sloppy.
If you realise that you have made some of these mistakes, do not panic. Many students seek essay help in UK, and we are ready to guide you.
Writing a Compelling Abstract: A Beginner's Guide
Writing
Want your abstract to stand out? Follow these tips:
Summarise it more easily once you have completed writing your essay.
Use simple words that convey a message. Avoid jargon.
Use a Logical Structure: Introduce the topic, state the problem, summarise key findings, and summarise.
Stay in Word Limit: Remove non-essentials if it is over; add essential points if it is short.
Make a peer, tutor, or specialist proofread it in order to identify errors as well as imprecise words.
Implementing these tactics makes your abstract effective as well as professional.

Yamaha Outboard FAQs: Expert Answers to Common Repair and Maintenance Queries
Tumblr media
As a proud owner of a Yamaha outboard motor, you know that proper maintenance and timely repairs are essential for ensuring its longevity and optimal performance. However, navigating the world of outboard ownership can be daunting, with a myriad of questions and concerns arising along the way. In this comprehensive guide, we'll address some of the most frequently asked questions about Yamaha outboard repair and maintenance, providing expert insights and practical solutions.
General Repair and Maintenance Questions
How often should I service my Yamaha outboard? Yamaha recommends following a strict maintenance schedule based on the number of hours the outboard has been in operation. Generally, it's advisable to have your outboard serviced annually or every 100 hours of use, whichever comes first. Regular maintenance can help prevent costly repairs down the line and ensure your outboard operates at peak performance.
What are the signs that my outboard needs repair? Common signs that your Yamaha outboard may need repair include difficulty starting, loss of power, unusual noises or vibrations, overheating, and warning lights or error codes on the diagnostic system. If you notice any of these issues, it's best to have your outboard inspected by a qualified technician as soon as possible.
Can I perform basic maintenance tasks myself? Yes, many basic maintenance tasks, such as changing the oil and filter, replacing spark plugs, and cleaning the fuel system, can be performed by boat owners with the necessary skills and tools. However, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and use the recommended parts and fluids. For more complex repairs or maintenance, it's best to seek the assistance of an authorized Yamaha service center.
Regular Maintenance Questions
How often should I change the oil in my Yamaha outboard? Yamaha recommends changing the outboard oil and filter annually or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Using the correct type and grade of oil is crucial for ensuring proper lubrication and preventing premature wear.
How do I know when to replace the water pump impeller? The water pump impeller is a critical component that circulates cooling water through the engine. Yamaha recommends inspecting and replacing the impeller every two years or 300 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Signs of a failing impeller include overheating, reduced water flow, or a grinding noise from the water pump.
What maintenance is required for the fuel system? Regular fuel system maintenance is essential for ensuring proper engine performance and preventing issues such as clogging or corrosion. This may include replacing the fuel filter, inspecting and cleaning the fuel tank, and using appropriate fuel additives or stabilizers, especially if the outboard will be stored for an extended period.
Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Questions
How do I access the diagnostic system on my Yamaha outboard? Most modern Yamaha outboards are equipped with an onboard diagnostic system that can be accessed using a proprietary diagnostic tool or software. This system can provide valuable information about potential issues, error codes, and sensor data, aiding in the troubleshooting process. For more information on Yamaha outboard diagnostics, check out Yamaha Outboard Diagnostics: Unraveling the Mysteries, Restoring Peak Performance.
What are some common causes of starting issues? Starting issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty battery, corroded electrical connections, a clogged fuel system, or problems with the ignition system. It's essential to have a qualified technician diagnose and address the root cause of the issue to prevent further damage.
How can I troubleshoot overheating problems? Overheating can be caused by issues with the cooling system, such as a faulty water pump, clogged water passages, or a malfunctioning thermostat. It's crucial to address overheating problems promptly, as they can lead to severe engine damage if left unchecked.
Parts and Accessories Questions
Tumblr media
Should I use genuine Yamaha parts for repairs and maintenance? Yamaha strongly recommends using genuine parts and accessories for all repairs and maintenance tasks. Genuine parts are designed and manufactured to meet the exact specifications of your outboard, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and compatibility. Using non-genuine parts can potentially void your warranty and lead to further issues down the line.
Where can I purchase genuine Yamaha parts and accessories? Genuine Yamaha parts and accessories can be purchased from authorized Yamaha dealers or reputable online retailers. It's essential to ensure you're buying from a trusted source to avoid counterfeit or low-quality parts.
Warranty and Authorized Service Questions
What is covered under the Yamaha outboard warranty? Yamaha outboards typically come with a limited warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship for a specified period. The exact coverage and duration may vary depending on the model and year of your outboard, so it's best to consult your owner's manual or contact an authorized Yamaha dealer for details.
Will performing my own maintenance void the warranty? No, performing basic maintenance tasks yourself, such as oil changes and spark plug replacements, will not void your Yamaha outboard warranty as long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions and use the recommended parts and fluids. However, it's essential to have any major repairs or overhauls performed by an authorized Yamaha service center to maintain warranty coverage.
Safety and Storage Questions
What safety precautions should I take when working on my outboard? When performing maintenance or repairs on your Yamaha outboard, it's crucial to follow proper safety procedures. This includes ensuring the engine is turned off and cooled down, disconnecting the battery, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and safety glasses.
How should I store my outboard during the off-season? Proper storage is essential for protecting your Yamaha outboard during the off-season. This typically involves flushing the cooling system with fresh water, draining the fuel system, applying corrosion inhibitors, and storing the outboard in a dry, protected area. Consult your owner's manual or an authorized Yamaha dealer for specific storage instructions. For guidance on Yamaha mobile service options, check out Yamaha Mobile Service: Outboard Repair Without Boundaries.
Extending Outboard Life
What can I do to maximize the lifespan of my Yamaha outboard? To maximize the lifespan of your Yamaha outboard, it's essential to follow the recommended maintenance schedule, use genuine parts and fluids, and have any repairs or overhauls performed by an authorized service center. Additionally, proper storage during the off-season and avoiding excessive idling or high-speed operation can help extend the life of your outboard.
By addressing these common questions and concerns, we hope to have provided you with valuable insights and practical solutions for maintaining and repairing your Yamaha outboard motor. Remember, regular maintenance and timely repairs are the keys to ensuring your outboard operates at peak performance and provides you with many years of reliable service on the water.

Justin Fields, DJ Moore and their importance in rebuilding the Chicago Bears
New Post has been published on https://bestcustomjerseys.com/justin-fields-dj-moore-and-their-importance-in-rebuilding-the-chicago-bears/
Justin Fields, DJ Moore and their importance in rebuilding the Chicago Bears
• A new WR1 in Chicago: DJ Moore is ready to provide Justin Fields with a security blanket, something the young signal caller has yet to have in his NFL career.
• Where Fields has struggled, Moore has thrived: Moore will help Fields when under pressure and in the short and midfield parts.
• Bears outlook for 2023: Chicago’s running attack thrived in 2022 behind Fields’ legs. Now the offense as a whole has a chance to come out behind him and DJ Moore in the passing game.
Estimated reading time: 7 minutes
A little over 18 months ago, the Chicago Bears cleaned house and embarked on a rebuild. The team parted ways with head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace, replacing them with Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles, who made quick work of dismantling a roster that was stacked with aging and expensive players.
Many key contributors, such as james daniels, Khalil Mack and allen robinson ii they were allowed to walk in free agency or traded. And as a result, the Bears entered the 2022 campaign with what appeared to be one of the worst rosters in the league.
Chicago’s passing offense struggled for most of the season with the second-year quarterback. justin fields. During the regular season, the unit generated -0.097 aggregate expected points per pass, 28th in the NFL. His 5.7 passing yards play tied for 26th. The team’s highest-rated receiver was 2020 fifth-rounder Darnell Mooney, but his 69.2 PFF rating ranked 49th at the position.
In the end, it was easy to see the problem: The Bears had a developing quarterback leading an offense that didn’t have a single player with a rating higher than 81.0.
The goal of the 2023 offseason, then, was simple: Rebuild the team around Fields, put the third-year player in a position for success so he can prove he’s the right person for the long haul. franchise future.
Is Justin Fields the long-awaited answer at QB?
He Bears I have been looking for a franchise signal caller for a long, long time. In the PFF era, only two Bears quarterbacks have earned a rating higher than 80.0 in a single season, and it’s been a decade since the last time that happened.
Highest rated Bears quarterbacks since 2006 (rank among quarterbacks with 150+ dropbacks)
Name Season returns PFF passing score Range Josh McCown 2013 258 84.3 5 of 44 jay cutler 2013 406 80.0 13 of 44 Brian Hoyer 2016 216 79.0 11 of 39 jay cutler 2015 556 74.5 11 of 40 matt barkley 2016 241 73.2 18 of 39 jay cutler 2011 364 71.4 15 of 39 mitchell trubisky 2017 415 71.2 19 of 41 Brian Griese 2007 297 71.0 18 of 47 jay cutler 2012 529 70.8 16 of 38 nick foles 2020 350 66.9 28 of 41
The last time a Bears quarterback attempted 300 or more passes and earned a grade higher than 80.0 was in 2013 when Jay Cutler finished the year 224-of-355 for 2,621 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. However, Cutler was limited to just 11 games that season due to a torn groin and caused considerable controversy at quarterback when he finally returned to the lineup.
Only twice in the PFF era has a Bears quarterback made it past an entire regular-season slate: Rex Grossman in 2006 and Jay Cutler in 2009, but both quarterbacks earned sub-70.0 approval ratings on their respective seasons.
Rex Grossmann (2006) Jay Cutler (2009) Games sixteen sixteen Comp./Atten. 262/480 336/555 yards 3,193 3,676 Yards per Att. 6.7 6.6 TD/INT 23/20 27/26 MTB/TWP 21/35 26/24 passer rating 73.9 76.8 PFF passing score 50.4 65.6
Early in Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft, Bears general manager Ryan Pace made a trade that moved Chicago from Pick 20 to Pick 11. It cost them the 164th overall pick, a first-round pick. 2022 and a 2022 fourth-rounder, but they ultimately secured Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, the third-ranked prospect on PFF’s big board and, at the time, the fifth-best prospect PFF had ever evaluated.
He Bears he had the most salary cap space in the league, a young quarterback, and most importantly, the first pick in the draft. With a plethora of roster holes, Chicago sent the top pick to the Carolina Panthers for extra draft capital and arguably their greatest need, a true WR1.
in comes dj moore.
DJ Moore’s chance to shine
moore he has earned an 85.8 receiving rating since entering the league as the 24th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, 26th among qualified wide receivers. He posted grades above 70.0 in all five seasons of his career despite playing with a merry-go-round of quarterbacks that featured some of the least effective quarterbacks in the league.
DJ Moore: PFF ratings and ranking among wide receivers since 2018

The Fields–Moore connection

Moore also serves as a safety valve when his quarterback is under pressure. Since 2018, he has seen the eighth most targets among wide receivers when their quarterback is under pressure.
Moore does his best work on the outside, but he’s also contributed significantly with 971 snaps from the slot, giving Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy a lot of work.

The bottom line
While the Bears’ passing game seemed lost at times in 2022, the running game thrived. Fields had 1,143 rushing yards last season, the second-most ever by a quarterback, while his overall rushing offense generated -0.010 EPA per play, the 10th best mark in the league.
The 2023 season is all about bringing the air offense up to speed, with Fields and Moore leading the way.
