it's about passion growing as an organism outside of you. it's about the horrifying consequences of cutting the umbilical chord between you and your passion. franco mari is eaten by the ghost of his passion, pasquale peluso is eaten by his passion developing independent sentience. lila cerullo is too dependent on the gaps between the fabric of everything to belong to an extreme permanently, but it is possible for her to become her passion's hostage in the heat of the moment except that she has a lifeline... it's elena greco writing an article about the factory because lila is her friend, not because she wants to save the world or because she is wholeheartedly dedicated to the cause. it's enzo scanno knocking on her door simply because he cares enough to do so. it's about how these two people help lila remain in the middle of franco and pasquale on this hypothetical scale of fiery, palpable belief. (notice franco and pasquale's background and how lila is familiar with poverty and wealth both) lila gets to keep her dreams of a better world alive because she is inspired by elena and enzo's headspace, but both of these people look at her and see lila cerullo, not a means to an end. all this to say that no ideal can stand as a solitary creation, it needs to evolve and gather knowledge from specific faces so it won't turn against itself and this can only be accomplished if you have someone to lean on... i'd argue that passion and companionship aren't only compatible, but absolutely necessary in sustaining the heart of both concepts... you can’t support a cause without hearing a fresh perspective on it because it can only grow in one direction that way... it isn't accidental that the only time lila cerullo comes close to fulfilling her childhood dream, it's with people who care about her on an individual level. l'amica geniale is so much about how power twists pure ideas into something unrecognisable (even evident with nino if you choose to perceive his younger self as somewhat genuine) and the only thing capable of offering shape to things is love... you can only create something permanent and solid with love...

Your last RoyalBlue fic said to send prompts if you have any and I’d love to more Ky (and Dizzy) interacting with Daryl and their reactions to his relationship with Chaos. I think it’s fun to see the kings as brothers and I would to see how they feel about it. Maybe like Ky giving Chaos the shovel talk?

oh anon you don't know how much time I've spent thinking over this exact prompt!!! the thing I love most about guilty gear is how there is such an amazing cast that has prime potential fro super fun interactions!! especially with the kings of Illyria because we already see how their dynamics play out in the story and there's just so much to write about when you add more people into the mix!! d–(ᵔ‿ᵔ✿)z

I swear I could write a whole ass essay about the dynamics between the kings + Ky's family + royalblue and unfortunately my spring break has ended (rip me D:) so writing is on the back burner BUT I will give my summed up thoughts for now until I have time to write (under the cut because holy shit this is me condensing my notes from my notes app about them that has been just full of incoherent jumbled thoughts)

Dizzy: she just wants what's best for everyone, Daryl and Chaos included. tbh I feel like Dizzy and Chaos would be hobby buddies and gossip buddies, so they'd like. crochet when Ky and Daryl are doing king stuff and get coffee on Thursdays just to shit talk their partners (lovingly ofc). Chaos has so many hobbies and he totally tries to get Dizzy in on them, she does it in return (hc: Dizzy teaches Chaos how to bird watch because why not)

Leo: I totally think he and Daryl are like brothers who hate each other and have a pretty rocky relationship. I feel like a lot of their clashes in Xrd and Strive stem from the fact Daryl is almost completely objective while Leo is like 'Daryl no. don't nuke people.' so Leo seeing Daryl not being objective for once and loving someone outside of his job who Leo would never expect him to fall for gets Daryl some respect in Leo's book if that makes sense?? they still fight ofc but Leo now sees that Daryl isn't just an unfeeling machine that only works to better Illyria at all costs

Ky: I COULD WRITE AN ESSAY ON KY ALONE ABOUT HIS STANCE ON ROYALBLUE. like Leo, he's kinda like brothers with Daryl except Ky's more of the mediator of the three of them. I think he'd be skeptical when he first gets wind of the relationship (who knows Chaos could be doing magic shenanigans to influence Daryl), but once he learns the full story (aka they are actually infatuated with one another and deeply in love) he's like huh wait okay. there's now someone (Chaos) in Daryl's life who can convince him to stop working so hard for once and relax, who actually makes Daryl think outside his usual objective logical viewpoint for once, who makes Daryl happier.. except it's still Chaos who is most certainly an annoying shit to Ky about the fact Daryl's in love with him

OH BOY AND KY WOULD SO GIVE THE SHOVEL TALK TO CHAOS!!!!! tbh if anyone could kill an immortal in this series it would probably be Ky (or like. Bedman. but he's dead) because the whole 'defeat Sol' 'crusade war crimes' and 'help kill god I-No' thing. or at least Ky thinks he could and he makes Chaos aware that if he does anything to hurt Daryl, Chaos will be found dead in a ditch and his case will go unsolved forever

holy crap this is longer than I initially meant and I could write so much more I just love guilty gear so much. especially government found family. I am ill about them. I was up thinking about this prompt for two hours before falling asleep last night. then I had a dream Strive 2 released and Chaos got a helicopter with Daryl's face on it in story mode. I think I need help

Books of 2025: February Wrap-Up.

As it turns out: Rereading your own novel manuscript twice (once for the original NaNo and once for the most-current-frankendraft) dramatically slows down the Reading Published Books train, which is fine! I had fun on all fronts! And I did a bunch of knitting, too, and everything I read this month was Good, Actually :D

THE LANGUAGE OF THE NIGHT - ★★★★★ Essays on writing, science fiction, and fantasy! Wound up loving this, per my Le Guin Usual, had to bust out the flaggies to mark passages. My favorite chapters were "Introduction to City of Illusions" (which I must track down a copy of immediately), "Talking about Writing," "The Stalin in the Soul," and "The Stone Ax and the Muskoxen."

METAL FROM HEAVEN - ★★★★★ Y'all this was SO FUCKING GOOD. It's pitched as for fans of Gideon the Ninth and The Princess Bride, because it's about messy lesbians and one in particular's quest for revenge against the industrialist who had her entire striking family killed. Personally, I'd also throw an Arcane comp in there for the class warfare and aesthetics and weird magical substance. Significant review linked, PLEASE go check this out, it was very excellent.

ODD THOMAS - ★★★★ Reread, to go with my own manuscript-rereading (this book was an Inspiration for my project, as was WtNV). I still love Odd so much. Fucked up, weird, funny, tragic book--if you've ever been curious about Koontz, try this one.

WHEN WOMEN WERE BIRDS - ★★★½ Received this in my nature writing subscription box, started it without meaning to on a random Tuesday, accidentally read the first three chapters because it sucked me in. Parts of this REALLY hit right for me and parts of it were just Meh--definitely depended on the particular Variation on Voice. The opening chapter is the author receiving her mother's journals, collected over a lifetime, and they're all blank. If you like memoirs, and feminism, and environmentalism, and birds, and writing, and Mormonism, or any combination thereof, check this out! Short little book, does neat stuff with white space.

Under the Cut: A Note About ~*★Stars★*~

Historically, I have been Very Bad™ about assigning things Star Ratings, because it's so Vibes Heavy for me and therefore Contingent Upon my Whims. (Example: I don't like that stars are Odd, because that makes three the midpoint and things are rarely so truly mid for me)(I have hacked my way around this with a ½, which is really only applicable for me at ★★★ and up). Here is, generally, how I conceptualize stars:

★ - This was Bad. I would actively recommend that you do NOT read this one, no redeeming qualities whatsoever, not worth the slog. Save Yourself, It's Too Late For Me. Book goes in the garbage (donate bin).

★★ - This was Not Good. I would not recommend it, but it wasn't a total waste or wash--something in here held my interest/kept my attention/sparked some joy. I will not be rereading this ever. Save Yourself (Or Join Me In Suffering, That Seems Like A Cool Bonding Activity).

★★★ - This was Good/Fine/Okay/Meh. I don't care about this enough to recommend it one way or another. Perfectly serviceable book, held my interest, I probably enjoyed myself (or at least didn't actively loathe the reading). I don't have especially strong feelings. You probably don't need to save yourself from this one--if it sounds like your jam, give it a shot! Just didn't resonate with me particularly powerfully. I probably won't reread this unless I'm after something in particular.

★★★½ - I liked this! I'll probably recommend it if I know it matches someone's vibes or specific requests, but I didn't commit to a star rating on Goodreads. More likely to reread, but not guaranteed.

★★★★ - I really enjoyed this!! I would recommend it (sometimes with caveats about content warnings or such--I tend to like weird fucked up funny shit, and I don't have many hard readerly NO's). Not a perfect book for me by any means, but Very Good. This is something I would reread! Join me!!

★★★★★ - I LOVED THE SHIT OUT OF THIS, IT REWIRED MY BRAIN, WILL RECOMMEND TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE AT THE SLIGHTEST PROVOCATION (content warning caveats still apply--see 4-star disclaimer). Excellent book, I'll reread it regularly, I'll buy copies for all my friends, I'll try to convince all of Booklr to read it, PLEASE join me!!

AA3/AA4 spoilers!!

I draw the connection between narumitsu and "i had all and then most of you, some, and none of you." and you think oh from them as children to their first case together? No. Oh so after miles "chooses death?" Not that either. IT WAS POST AA3 BUT BEFORE AA4!!

Just imagine after miles came back due to larrys over exaggeration and he sees pheonixs' perspective for the first time as he's solving iris' case. He even helps save maya, AGAIN. Not to mention the emotional breakdown that mustve ensued in that private jet he charted while thinking pheonix had died. Undoubtedly they got closer after this case, maybe they called each other more often afterwards; talking about whatever wild cases they were investigating, maybe new larry chaos, miles "complaining" about whatever trouble Kay stirs up or about how hard Sebastian is working on a case he's been assigned to, if miles was still in japanifornia maybe they got coffee together and talked about anything and yet nothing ofcourse because theyre them, maybe they couped up in miles' apartment and worked on their cases together into obscene hours of the night. And then miles hears the news of pheonixs' disbarment, likely not even from pheonix himself. And the quiet it leaves in its wake, for both of them. Miles shock and subsequent hurt as pheonix shuts him off. Thats,,, what i mean.
