Yes, normalize "I love you" not always being romantic. At the same time, normalise asking someone if they are comfortable with it. I cannot count how many times someone thought platonic meant "no boundary questions required" and thought the fact it was platonic was enough. Yes, normalise this expression being used in this way. Unit AplAro

Unit AplAro (Aplatonic Aromantic): Someone who views their aplatonicism and their aromanticism as a single unit.

I was thinking about unit aroace and thinking about my own experience (as an aplaro), so I decided it would be cool to coin a term for aplaros who does not see their aplatonic and aromantic identities as being split. The color of the first stripe was taken from the aromantic flag and the color of the last stripe was taken from the aplatonic flag. The lighter shades of green and blue were chosen to offer a good contrast, and the middle stripe is an intermediate color between the darker green and the darker blue, chosen to represent a blend between aromantic and aplatonic identities. The arrowed apple symbol was chosen because the arrow is one of the aro symbols and because the apple is one of the aplatonic symbols.

(Note: this term totally includes mesi aplaros)

Also that assumes that I want any kind of platonic partnership. Nonpartnering can and often does mean entirely non partnering, platonic partnerships included. Like. Begging people to realize just once that not all aros have friends or want friends, and even those that do might still not want that level of attachment to them

“If you’re worried about the financial difficulties that come with being nonpartnering, you could always just get married platonically for tax benefits!” Respectfully, I would rather Saw (2004) my own foot off than be married, and the fact that the state uses legal and financial incentives to promote monogamous romantic relationships to the public is not enticing to me but is, in fact, an active deterrent to me. I won’t fault anyone for trying to game the system to get by, but I have no interest in feigning alloromanticism or romance favorability to gain the benefits that may come with the government giving its stamp of approval on my personal relationships.

I'm trying to think of a way to word this that doesn't sound combative or insulting but if you're aromantic, asexual, and aplatonic does that mean you don't make any kind of connection with anyone at all? Romantic, sexual, and platonic are the only kinds of relationships I understand so what can you have for others if you have none of those feelings at all?

so with my aromanticism and asexuality, those are more easily understood and 'mainstream' (so to speak) identities with clearer definitions and larger communities of people, so I can find them for myself more easily

my aromanticism means that I don't desire romantic relationships or actions with anyone, and my asexuality means I don't desire sexual actions or thoughts with anyone

with aplatonic it's a little harder to define. for me, it means that I don't have the urge to make friends or be friends with more people. I do HAVE friends, but it was kind of like an extrovert deciding that I'm their friend now. I don't actively hate friendships if they come my way, and my friends are special to me, but i don't seek out new friends or feel 'fulfilled' by any friendships (because I feel fulfilled just being me). so I don't NEED friends, but they're nice to have if they come my way.

there is connection I do feel though! I'm very picky and VERY protective of my familial relationships, to the point where even though someone might not be blood related to me, I can consider them family. I have a younger brother, and I value him over all other people. sometimes I think of the kids I take care of at summer camp as family.

I have connections with people intellectually and professionally, and I see those as types of relationship dynamics too. I love to talk with people about a shared interest or hobby, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a friendship. I talk with people I work with or professionals in my field of interest, and make connections that way.

as for what I 'have for others' I don't see basing my worth on how I relate to other people or what I 'offer' to them as a good way to live life. if I'm just happy being myself without any kind of traditional relationship, and it's not harming anyone, it's okay. there's no moral downfall in just being happy alone, im whole on my own.

I am once again humbly requesting that aros [although it's an everyone issue I especially see it with others aros] drop the direct link between aromanticism and enjoying platonic intimacy, being friending, wanting familial relationships, loving in other ways, and loving in general [because, reminder, you can be loveless and still have attractions]. It gets really aggravating to constantly see aro identity blanketed and compensated for with "softer" attractions. Not to mention how exclusionary it is to other aros around you.

Aros of all kinds deserve respect. If you value these things and want to share, absolutely do so! Do keep in mind, however, what you label as an "aro thing", and ask yourself if what you see as an "aro thing" is actually just being alloplatonic or allofamilial. It isn't a bad thing to prioritize friendship, family, or other relationships; it just isn't an "aro thing", it's a "your personal happiness".

Just once I'd enjoy if alloplatonics did not come into the tags and rbs of an aplatonic post to say "but I love my friends so much though!" Yeah. Cool. We heard. This is about how it's a problem that the aromantic community has become the "friendship is better than romance" community and the "loving your friends" community and the "friendship above all else" community when not all aros are like that. And if you are like that, good for you, but not the point at all. The point is that the way you all talk about friendship as something everyone wants and has is the same way allos talk about romance

honestly it really annoys me that loving your friends has become associated with aromanticism as much as it is. not only does it imply that allo people shouldn't or dont love their friends as deeply as aro people, it also implies aro people must love their friends and as an aplatonic person i sometimes feel uncomfortable in the aro community because i feel like alot of aros have just. replaced romance with friendship and act as if that makes it somehow okay to imply you must have a certain type of relationship or love someone a certain way

General Aplatonic / Apl symbols

Made for fun, in no way am I claiming this is "official" or that anyone has to use it or anything. I just had a lot of fun making my Poison Apl symbol and I wanted to do something else with the format!

Anyone on the Aplatonic spectrum / who is Aplspec in any way can use ( and is included ) in these!

These incorporate multiple Aplatonic / Apl symbols! Bees, blue roses, and apples. The color of the apples / rose are the colors of this Apl flag, while the bee is the colors of the second Apl flag here. I wanted to represent both color schemes because I personally use both flags, and I wanted it to be inclusive of all Apls regardless of flag preference.

I gave the blue rose thorns, as a way of reclaiming stereotypes about Apls being "distant" ( a rose creates distance between itself and others with it's thorns ) because of their Aplatonicism ( especially Nonfriending and Nonpartnering Apls ) or "thorny/mean" for not wanting casual friendships / being friendship repulsed / to randomly be called "friend" / any friendships or friends / not wanting or experiencing "love" in general, especially "platonic love"

I know some prefer yellow apples while others prefer a green apples ( especially aplaros / aroapls ) so I made two versions! Use whichever you want, or use both at the same time!
