(Source of the main tweet)
Not really looking forward to what Adi Shankar will do to Duke, specially after tweets like these:

And his response to Broussard's tweet.

This also reminds me of how people talk about Duke, like what is Duke about and how he came to be.
Because even with the comedy and sense of humor, you have to wonder if there's a way to make him work today and avoid certain traps of modern writing like "erm okay?".
Something some people agree on is that some parts of Duke can be played straight.
A good example being the environment or mood being gritty and dark, specially since it is about guns and aliens taking over and even kidnapping women and doing horrible things.
But you could allow Duke doing some occasional one liners that don't turn down the mood and maybe have some details like an alien with boobs hanging out.
Some places with silly billboards with joke names here and there but it's not that focused or something.
An idea i thought of is going the route of a Leslie Nielsen movie where there's absurd elements but they're played straight, specially in an age where everything is ironic or self-aware and winks at the audience.
Because even if Duke isn't dramatic or so serious, i like to think you can have some grittyness to Duke which can even help the absurdity a bit.
In fact, Blood was kinda like this but with horror and taking place in an older time and with religious elements, even if the humor felt smaller.
Whereas Shadow Warrior is probably way less serious than Duke, for some obvious reasons.
Because Duke references stuff that the devs are clearly into.
Even if not as serious as the movies it references, it's clear the devs grew up with 80's action movies and based Duke mostly on them.
Like how plenty of iconic game series were the result of devs being inspired by the works they love.
Maybe there's some argument that 2010's and 20's doesn't have enough interesting stuff to reference, specially in the field of cool action movies.
I'm sure there could be good ideas but Adi won't get them.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - “Um Sonho de Liberdade” 🇧🇷 - is an incredible movie. Perhaps one of the best ever made. If you haven’t seen this film, go away from here to avoid 🚨SPOILER🚨 and WATCH the film. It’s worth it. That said…
Tumblr media
In Dukem Nukem 3D (1996) game, at a certain point (level 3 of the first episode), you will end up in a prison and need to get out of it. Paying homage to the film, your exit is in one of the cells behind a poster.
Tumblr media
As you pass through it, you end up finding a sewage system, exactly where the character in the film reaches his freedom.
Tumblr media
Details like this are what make this game so incredible to this day (just like the movie 🙂).

Absolutely wild.
Really puts it in perspective.
This is what the US electoral map would look like if it were the title screen to the 1993 side-scrolling PC game “Bio Menace”.
