YAYYYYY <333 I'm so glad you like them!! they're literally like. oh my god. I blow up into smithereens whenever I think about those guys!!!!!! here's a couple more doodles of em :3

things that make me insane about these guys:

the tropes: iconic duo / matching set, soulmates, doomed yaoi, childhood friends to lovers, requited love they're just stupid, miscommunication trope (it absolutely Destroyed them), the love was there (and it changed everything), the corruption of the familiar!!! (they change so drastically in response to the events of the story, it makes me CRAZY. so much of these changes are represented physically in their designs) etc etc

they absolutely reek of codependency!!! they've been each other's whole world for 30 years and when it all comes to an abrupt, fleeting stop? it shakes them both so deeply to their core because who are they without the other? their story gets as crazy as it does because they are both so frantic to stick together / so scared to lose one another. they're damned if they stick together, even more damned if they're apart.

it's the DUALITY of the dynamic. on one hand, they are so extremely silly, it actually knocks my ass out LMAO. on the other hand?? their story is in many ways a Tragedy! it's an exploration of grief, of loss, of change!! but also of a love that is so deep and all-encompassing, for grief and love are two sides of the same coin.

their story is also like a torment nexus. it's like we invented new ways for them to suffer at max level (specifically for spade?? he actually goes through hell the whole time. THAT makes me crazy. part of that is his own damn fault, but also wow he does NAWT deserve all that okay.)
