Hi, I've been wanting to try to make some sort of comic and your art is so cool and pretty but also kinda cartoony in the best way, I was wondering if u had any tips for a beginner in digital art/drawing the same characters again and again

So one of the biggest pieces of advice for drawing characters over and over consistently is really just to draw them over and over.

Pick a character or three and just draw the absolute hell out of them. Could be short comics, studies, silly doodles, etc. Anything to get you drawing. Part of being consistent is getting to know this character from all different angles, and that means a lot of repetition.

Making model sheets is a big help, though don't be surprised if your characters start to shift away from that initial design after too long once you've found a more comfortable groove.

First model sheet for Dragon Jon vs one of my more recent comics. A lot of features were simplified for the sake of repetition and to make them a bit more expressive. The horns got the most of it, to the point they're almost perfect angles.

Also I forgot I drew the ears that way at first. They're more like a fan shape now, that's funny.

You'll likely find that, as you keep drawing the same character over and over, you will naturally simplify parts of your process. You'll build a library of symbols in your head for characters, like their noses and eyes or other little details, and find lots of shortcuts that make drawing all those panels go a bit smoother. This is true even for semi-realism, but especially so for more cartoony styles.

If you are specifically looking to have a simpler style that's easier to draw frequently, a trick I learned from an episode of Drawfee is to draw really small. Make a thumbnail of your character with what feels like too little space. What are the least amount of lines you need to convey the character at that scale? What are the most basic shapes?

Drew an angy S1 Jon as an example

Once you have that thumbnail, scale it up to a more reasonable size and use that as a base to draw your finished line art on top of. You'll find you probably don't need as many lines as you thought when you first had the idea in your head, and that will save you time as well as make drawings easier to replicate in the long run.

I had a sudden idea about Doey. Hear me out: Doey is 900lbs of dough in those tapes- when the boys were still kids. He's grown since then, so, what if he's closer to a ton now?

this makes me remember how there's a lot of chunks of dough in the chapter. one person i watched joked that because of seemingly losing the clay, doey would become smaller and smaller

10 or so years is a lot of time to accumulate a ton of clay if it were to organically grow though!

so my immediate first thought is just

manually shaving off the excess. so he visually remains the same but does in fact have an extra 100lbs (or even more) stashed around all over the place

edit: i want to add this ask is extremely funny given that, just today i noticed his arms are becoming thicker every time i draw him

Head pats are good! Especially scratches between the horns, but the horns do make things complicated sometimes...

They've learned forehead kisses work best, lol.

I do not know why I saw this and went "Oh! I wanna animate that." And I am equally bewildered why I didn't just make a little loop. But I think we're all aware at this point I do not make decisions based on what is easiest.

I'm curious as to why you chose Megaop as your main ship for this au

It's just so tragic and it's soo soo interesting like can you imagine falling for a guy then all of a sudden the whole world turns on you and then all of a sudden the guy you loved is leading a war against you?

I know that Megop is considered a violent ship in most media and I've had some people support Elita in my au lol, but think of my Megop being like those two guys from Nimona, cause that's literally them. They don't hate each other, they don't want to harm each other, they just miss each other terribly lol.

Megatron was an innocent guy who was purposely and falsely blamed for the Great Fire of the Primes, and the death of them, firing up the rivalry between the lower and upper class, and eventually, the war.

Optimus was chosen as the next Prime, and was basically forced into the position when the war started, with no experience. His only remaining advisor, Sentinel, could no longer hold the matrix, but his desire for power caused him to lead through Optimus and manipulate him. Optimus deep down believed that Megatron did not cause this, but had no evidence.

It's supposed to be a sad story guys, I'm sry <3
